Starting point is 00:00:00 This right here is Ed Martin. He was the interim U.S. attorney for D.C. and he was defending January 6 rioters. He investigated Democrats. He essentially weaponized the DOJ for Trump and he's out. He was trying to get nominated. Trump tried nominating him. And Republicans for once in their goddamn life grew a spine and said, not this time. I guess January 6 is a thing too far as long as it's not. Trump, here is Senator Tom Tillis explaining why he did not support Ed Martin. And before we get to that, Ed Martin is not supported by a few people. And one of whom is someone who was on the street. He got spit on by a D.C.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Pastor Byer who noticed that Ed Martin was speaking to a camera. I have that cook for you right after this. But let's just hear Tom Tillis and explain why he does not or did not support Ed Martin for D.C. attorney. No tolerance for anybody who entered the building on January the 6th. And that's probably where most of the friction was. At this point, I've indicated to the White House, I wouldn't support his nomination. Martin wasn't just, you know, someone who was defending a January 6th, right? I think that's a little bit of the distinction here because obviously everyone deserves a lawyer.
Starting point is 00:01:26 But Ed Martin was the Stop the Steel organizer who gave a special. speech on January 5th, outside of the Capitol, calling on patriots to stand up and fight till their last death to stop the steel. He supported some of these conspiracy theories. And he's also had a number of these incidents during his time as interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia that have really raised some red flags, including on his first day, launching this sort of investigation into comments that Chuck Schumer had made five years ago. Some really unique, I would say, uses of Justice Department power. He sent a lot of letters. these sort of open letters to individuals that have sort of gone outside of Justice Department
Starting point is 00:02:03 protocol. And he just had no prosecutorial experience before taking this job. It was a really a surprising pick that raised a lot of concerns, including with veterans of the office who go back to the Watergate area, just a very out of sort of the ordinary pick for this critical job in D.C. because... Well, I mean, this is where it's like, I'm so glad that the mainstream media isn't the only source of news because it's not an extreme pick. paying attention. Donald Trump doesn't care about who he nominates. As long as that person is going to be
Starting point is 00:02:36 loyal to him and it believes in the things that Trump believes, then he's all about it. It's not about being qualified. It's about believing in what Trump believes. And just as this person said here, this guy was so extreme. He called Biden Hitler. He pushed election lies and he still got the nomination. And what's even more insane is that because the Republicans actually showed that they could stand up to Trump, he withdrew, Trump withdrew his nomination. And so Ed Martin is no longer even a factor in all this because Republicans, you actually do have power. You actually do have power. Now, what has happened in place of that is that Trump has now nominated another Fox News host for this really important job. He is named Janine Piro as interim U.S. attorney in Washington.
Starting point is 00:03:43 The Fox News personality has known the president of decades and would provide him with a reliable line into a crucial prosecutor's office in the Justice Department. I mean, that's really sugar-coding it, isn't it? But before we get to that, let's just quickly say goodbye to Ed Martin the best way possible, which is that this woman spitting on him. Now, I do not support any of this, but this is what happens when you're an extreme asshole. People do things extremely to you on the street. So we need to get.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Really focused. You are in the fucking you. How are you doing? Sorry to laugh. Not funny. Not funny, but I think we should watch it one more time. We need to get really focused. Even worse the second time.
Starting point is 00:04:46 No one should do that. Terrible. All right. I have nothing to comment on besides the fact that I don't know. I think she's really standing up for a lot of folks who just can't believe that the country has devolved into an authoritarian hellscape. But speaking of authoritarian hellscape, Judge Jeanine Piro is now going to be
Starting point is 00:05:11 the interim U.S. attorney in Washington. And as we've seen, when we nominate Fox News hosts, everything always turns out great. Pete Hegseth, what a great addition to our government. I'm so glad Donald Trump is doing this. Here is why he is doing this. It's because, Well, I'll actually have him speak for himself.
Starting point is 00:05:34 I am pleased to announce that Judge Jeanine Piero will be appointed to interim U.S. Attorney for District of Columbia. Janine was an assistant district attorney for Westchester County, New York, and then wanted to serve as county, and district attorney, where she was the first woman ever to be elected to the position. During her time in office, Janine was a powerful crusader for victims of crime, her establishment of the Domestic Violence Bureau, in her prosecutor's office was the first in the nation. She excelled in all ways in addition to her legal career. Of course, she was on Fox News. Congratulations, Janine. Well, that may be true, but I believe that happened 30 years ago. That's a 30-year-old resume he's discussing there. The move also, the New York Times reported, raised legal concerns. Mr. Trump appeared to be relying on an aggressive interpretation of his appointment of powers
Starting point is 00:06:27 and his installation of Ms. Puro could face a legal challenge. A ruling striking down, her appointment could disrupt criminal cases, brought on her authority, while one upholding it would expand Mr. Trump's power to bypass the Senate. I mean, is anyone else shocked that Donald Trump is using extreme powers to push for his extreme agenda? I'm going to tell you this. If Democrats ever get into power again, and I hope to God we do, they have opened a can of worms and whoever becomes an ex-president has to use every single new power that Donald Trump has created only this time to actually make good things happen.
Starting point is 00:07:10 Pass health care. Tax billionaires. Actually regulate corporations. If the president can do all this stuff, which apparently he can, the Supreme Court has said as much, or at least they're rubber standing many of them, much of this then to me the next Democrat needs to actually be aggressively using these powers to actually achieve liberal policies and by the way policies that would help most people so it's not even like we're doing it for bad reasons I just want to show you this and someone said weird Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian president. Beautiful. Beautiful. All right, well,
Starting point is 00:08:03 that's all I got for you today. Judge Janine and Ed Martin. American exceptionalism. All right. Thank you so much for watching. I will see you next time. Like the video, if you're not subscribed, consider subscribing. Thanks so much.
