Starting point is 00:00:00 Fallout is continuing from Donald Trump, and now Republicans are leading the charge because of Donald Trump's insane post yesterday. I think what's crazy is, I mean, it's only a day later, and don't you feel like everyone who's moved on from this? I think this is one of the things that we absolutely should not move on from, so we're going to talk about it today. Donald Trump, the president of the United States, if you don't know, shared a really disgusting post about Rob Reiner. who was not politically aligned with Trump, but Rob Reiner was murdered by his son. His son allegedly slit his throat, and the president of the United States seemed to enjoy that this was happening. But some Republicans spoke up.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Here's Nicole Wallace talking about it. Trump's deranged post invited rebukes from deep inside the MAGA coalition today. The somber moment and a deeply unsurious person. serving as America's president is where we start today. I want to share the rebukes just because it's still notable when MAGA Republicans rebuked Donald Trump. Thomas Massey tweeting this, quote, regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and disrespectful discourse
Starting point is 00:01:18 about a man who was just brutally murdered. I guess my elected Republican colleagues, the vice president and White House staff, will just ignore it because they're afraid. I challenge anyone to defend it. Marjorie Taylor Green posted this. Rob Reiner and his wife were tragically killed at the hands of their own son, who reportedly had drug addiction and other issues, and their remaining children are left in serious mourning and heartbreak. This is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies. Many families deal with a family member with drug addiction and mental health issues.
Starting point is 00:01:49 It's incredibly difficult and should be met with empathy, especially when it ends in murder. It is insane. It is insane. This is how far we've come that Marjorie Taylor Green, has more moral authority than the president of the United States. Still notable, not just that Republicans are speaking out, but where are the others that haven't? You know, these rebukes are important, and that's why we're covering them. But where's literally everybody else? Dina Powell is just on a stage with him in Pennsylvania, corporations that have paid to help him demolish the east wing of the White House. I didn't see any statements from any of them. Law firms
Starting point is 00:02:33 that capitulated are now doing work for the Donald Trump Commerce Department. I didn't see any statements from them. Jeff Bezos, who stood shoulder to shoulder with Donald Trump and is now making documentaries about his wife Malani. I didn't see any statements from him. No one has said anything. That's so true. I mean, there are so many important, powerful people who could stand up to Donald Trump, we just chose not to, chose not to. They'd rather look away rather than actually confront the fact that the President of the United States is, instead of bringing us together during these important times, which is what the president used to do. The president used to be a moral authority. Sure, every president has their problems, but we used to be able to at least
Starting point is 00:03:21 look towards the White House and the Oval Office for some moral guidance. It just doesn't exist anymore. And, you know, they're desperate to normalize this. Someone asked, name a single Democrat who celebrated Charlie Kirk's death. You know how far down the rung of the ladder they had to go to try to find someone? Breed Lynn Holleyhand, which is a real name, someone gave their child, posted this, saying, I found not one but two for you. Cornelius or the Cornelius City Councilor who's an online post celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk has resigned.
Starting point is 00:03:57 The former city councilor John Colgan wrote on social media that Wednesday shooting death of Kirk brightened up my day, adding later that Kirk was a ghoul who supported the Second Amendment even in the aftermath of school shootings. President of the United States being compared to the city counselor John Colgan. that's that's how maga wants to compare these things the president of the united states should be had should have the same responsibility as a random city council person absolutely insane now michel obama actually spoke up about this and here's what she had to say she didn't name donald trump by name but she was definitely responding to him for your loss oh my god how long have you known the rhiners we've known them for many many years and we were supposed to be seeing them that night, last night, and we got the news. And let me just say this, unlike some people,
Starting point is 00:04:51 Rob and Michelle Reiner are some of the most decent, courageous people you ever want to know. They are not deranged or crazed. What they have always been are passionate people in a time when there's not a lot of courage going on. They were the kind of people who were ready to put their actions behind what they cared about. And they cared about their family. And they cared about this country. And they cared about fairness and equity. And that is the truth. I do know them. I'm so glad she spoke up. You know, I've mentioned this before. I'm sorry to mention again, but I do think it's important that you know, and I don't want to bring this up all the time. But my sister was murdered. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Starting point is 00:05:45 She was a drug addict and she stole someone's drugs and that person strangled her to death. And she died. And that's such a specific kind of grief to lose someone unexpectedly. She was 22 years old when she died. I was 25. And I cannot imagine for the life of me experiencing that pain, experiencing that tragedy. And then the president of the United States. gleefully posting about it.
Starting point is 00:06:20 It's actually, I actually don't know if I would have been able to have survived that. Thankfully, I will never have to know. But there are some people alive right now who are going through just that. And I just think, I just can't imagine seeing someone in pain and choosing to make their pain worse. I just don't understand that. I don't. I don't. Okay. Morning Joe also eviscerated the Trump White House.
Starting point is 00:06:49 Normally don't play these fools, but I thought this is actually pretty good. Here's a bit of this. It was pathological. Tell me how did that happen? How did how, how, we hear about Susie Wiles all the time. I just got to ask, where was Susie Wiles? Where was any grown up in the White House? Where were they?
Starting point is 00:07:12 Where were they? They had to know that even for this president, who aggressively goes after his critics, who's broken barriers time and time again, but even for this president with the low standards that he's allowed to get by on, somebody in that White House had to know this would cause conservatives. This would cause his most fierce supporters in the MAGA base to be deeply disturbed at how much it would damage him. This is not about hurting libs. This is about Donald Trump hurting Donald Trump. Donald Trump hurting the White House. I don't know, Morning Joe. How I feel about it is I kind of
Starting point is 00:07:56 feel like Stephen Miller helped write that tweet. I kind of think they were actually, they signed on to all of it. And I don't know what Susie Wiles does for a living, which is his chief of staff. but I guarantee you. There are a lot of people high up that saw that tweet and decided it was a great idea. And that is proof to me enough that there is a moral rot in this White House and I refuse to let the rot live inside of me. I'm not going to hate them. I'm going to despise them. I'm going to pray for them that they get better.
Starting point is 00:08:30 How about that? How about that?
