We have some really sad breaking news.
There has been a shooting in Minneapolis at a school, not even a week, into what is the first week of school in this country.
We can't even get through one week without a mass shooting at a school.
Two children are dead and 14 have been injured.
I've got some clips and reactions.
And yeah.
So here is a fifth grader.
very bravely talking about what happened.
Like shots fired, and then we kind of, like, got under the pews.
It kind of, um, they shot through the, um, the stained glass windows, I think.
And it was really scary.
What did you do after that?
Um, well, we waited, like, 10 to 5 minutes.
I don't really know.
And then we, we went.
to the gym and then the doors locked just to make sure he didn't come and we waited in the gym
for more news and everyone was okay for most people were your friend west um my friend got
hit in the back did he go to the hospital yeah he went to the hospital what went through your mind
when we saw that um i was super scared for him but i think now he's okay
So Weston, very bravely talking about what happened here,
I just want to say that this should not happen in our country.
No child in America should have to deal with any of this.
And I am just, I guess I'm extremely sad,
but also I'm extremely upset because what I know is going to happen
is we're going to talk about this
for maybe not even a day now.
It used to be that something like this
you'd talk about at least for a week.
This might last a day in the news
and then we're all going to collectively move on
pretend like it didn't happen
until it inevitably happens again
and we go through the same fucking cycle.
I don't know what the solution is to this.
While obviously one solution,
is just get rid of the fucking guns, just pass some common sense legislation,
make it so that weapons of war aren't readily available to insane people
who might want to use it against as many people as possible.
That sounds like one pretty smart solution to me.
A large majority of the country agrees with me,
but we have a Congress that is completely terrified of doing anything to protect its citizens
and its children from,
death. All right, I'm going to keep on going. Here is Jacob Frey. He's the mayor of Minneapolis.
These were Minneapolis families. These were American families. And the amount of pain that they are
suffering right now is extraordinary. And don't just say this is about thoughts and prayers right now.
These kids were literally praying. It was the first week of school. They were in a church.
These are kids that should be learning with their friends.
They should be playing on the playground.
They should be able to go to school or church in peace
without the fear or risk of violence,
and their parents should have the same kind of assurance.
Yeah.
And I don't talk about this a lot
because, I don't know, I don't know, but I lost.
my sister to murder.
And it is a very specific kind of sadness and pain one experiences when they lose someone they
love at the hands of someone else.
And the thing is, this doesn't just hurt that family, this has ricocheting effects that
can impact generations of people.
And we are constantly inflicting those wounds on so many Americans needlessly.
This is so preventable, and yet we are completely paralyzed to do anything about it.
So I feel intense empathy for the folks who are experiencing this,
whether they lost someone or they nearly lost someone.
This is traumatizing, and it is going to completely change the lives of these children,
their parents, their friends.
if you've ever experienced a trauma in your life, you know that it changes you.
My house got broken into once when I was home, and I always lock my door now instinctively.
Something changes in you when you're violated.
And we are constantly traumatizing groups of Americans when they don't need to be, when we can just do
something to make lives for people in this country just a little bit safer.
Aaron Rupar, who we use his work here all the time on the channel.
He's a journalist.
He has a huge following on X and on many text-based platforms.
His kids were there at the school.
Now, the right is doing the thing that they always do, and they are politicizing this,
saying this person was trained.
who fucking cares what this person is affiliated with says killed Donald Trump on the gun here says
other things like release the list it says some pretty anti-Semitic stuff doesn't matter
who they're affiliated with and frankly someone that is this insane probably doesn't believe in
anything but destruction okay and we can play the finger point pointing game and say oh it's
because the left is crazy, because the right is insane.
It doesn't matter.
There are insane people in every other Western nation.
Only one of them has access, easy access, to weapons of war.
And guess where the vast majority of mass shootings happen in this country?
It doesn't matter what this person believes.
doesn't matter what this person has written down.
What matters is that this person was able to very easily get an AR-15
and could spray a school full of children.
That's something that we allow to happen in this country that no other country allows.
It needs to change.
It needs to change.
I was going to play this clip by Fox saying that how do we stop this mental health crisis.
I'm not even going to play it. I don't want that person to have the airtime.
Fuck that person for saying that. We know how to fix this. There's no other mentally ill people
in America or sorry in the in the world only here give me a fucking break. That's all I got and I'll see you next time.
Bye.
