Starting point is 00:00:00 A top Republican has quit on Donald Trump not even a week after the person was hired. They made this huge announcement and the man said, actually, I don't want to be involved in any of this. And this is all happening as Melania Trump's movie is crashing among critics and general public. And did you know, I did not know this. An entire nation pulled the movie from its theaters. That's right. Entire Nation pulls Melania movie from theater.
Starting point is 00:00:33 First Lady Melania Trump's upcoming Melania is being pulled from theaters in South Africa. Melania had been scheduled for local distribution in South Africa by Filmfinity and for release across major cinemas in the country. Issues were flagged to Film Finity about the release, which led to the decision to Nixon on a Wednesday, according to a report by Midas Touch. Quote, based on recent developments, we've taken the decision not to go ahead with the theatrical release in the territory.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Oh boy, that's just really putting salt into the wound of what is Melania because not only is Melania being forced upon all of us is being actively rejected by the public. As I've showed you before, this thing cannot get sold. They are, this is a, they're not a single ticket sold for opening night of the Melania movie. That's at least in Boston's biggest theater. And they've reportedly resorted to making ads on Craigslist. A 10 Melania documentary free tickets plus $50. Oh, I choose to believe this is true. I choose to believe this is true.
Starting point is 00:01:42 A 10 Melania documentary at any Boston area theater during opening weekend, this upcoming weekend, free tickets plus $50. Seat occupied must remain in seats for entirety of film. I don't know how they'd prove that, but I would have choose to believe this is true because we all know this is how Donald Trump. would fill stadiums during the election. So very funny development. And not only is no one going to see it,
Starting point is 00:02:08 the ones who did see it are giving it terrible reviews. Here's just a bit of that. Historical critics don't really like Melania Trump either. I mean, just take a look. Historians first later rankings, the bottom three. Dead last, Melania Trump. When you're next to Jane Pierce and Margaret Taylor, those are not particularly good.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Although we were able to get a colored photo of Melania Trump. I have nothing bad to say about either Margaret Pierce or Jane. Apparently you disagree with the historians then. Yeah, I mean. As it says here, prediction markets are saying that there's a 73% chance that Melania's documentary score is below 20% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Starting point is 00:02:42 One person said this review. If they showed this film on a plane, people would still walk out variety. Uh, here's what Jimmy Kimmel had to say. Melania will hit theaters according to the Wall Street Journal. Melania pocketed $28 million of the licensing fee for the film. You know, between this and her marriage, she's probably the highest paid actress in the world. The movie is expected to bring in between $1 and $5 million at the box office, well behind the horror movie Send Help, which incidentally would have been a much better title for the documentary.
Starting point is 00:03:24 Very good. Very good. Now, as I said, the Trump Kennedy Center made an announcement last week. They said the Trump Kennedy Center appoints Kevin Couch. I cannot believe his last name is Couch, knowing what we know about J.D. Vance. But real name. The Trump Kennedy Center appoints Kevin Couch's senior vice president of artistic programming. As you can see here, that was literally a week ago. That was a week ago. And, uh-oh.
Starting point is 00:03:50 Uh-oh. Kennedy Center's new programming resigns days after hire was announced. Kevin Couch appointed the center's senior vice president of artistic programming. resigned less than two weeks after he was announced. Count said when being hired, I am honored to join Trump Kennedy Center at such a pivotal moment for the performing arts. He went on to say,
Starting point is 00:04:12 I look forward to the extraordinary creative possibilities ahead championing our artists and partners, deliver meaningful experiences at America's Cultural Center, and then he said six days later, not so much, not so much. This comes as the Kennedy Center is shedding talent from its stages, with many cancellations announced that to Donald Trump,
Starting point is 00:04:33 named the building after him. And we actually have reporting on that right now where one of the most well-respected, well-known composers in the world, Philip Glass, actually withdrew his symphony from the theater. It goes on to say here, six years ago, the National Symphony Orchestra commissioned the renowned composer Philip Glass
Starting point is 00:04:56 to write a symphony honoring Abraham Lincoln for the 50th anniversary. of the John F. Kennedy Center for the performing arts in 2022. Glass missed the deadline, but his symphony number 15 was set for its world premiere by the orchestra this June. On Tuesday, Glass informed the Kennedy Center that he did not want a symphony based on Lincoln's 1838 address performed on its stage symphony number 15 as a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, and the values of Kennedy Center today are in direct conflict with the message of the symphony. He wrote on a letter asking the orchestra not to play his work. A copy of the letter was shared with the New York Times. To withdraw by Glass 88, who received
Starting point is 00:05:36 a Kennedy Center honors award in 2018 is the latest blow. As I said, this has been going on nonstop. In response to this, the Kennedy Center's vice president for public relations said the leftist activists are pushing artists to cancel, but the public wants artists to perform and create, not cancel under pressure from political insiders that benefit from creating Division. Oh, my God. I mean, the only people creating division is Trump and his administration. We all know that. We all know that. I think the most fascinating thing about all this is that they're trying so desperately to, and it is desperate, to force themselves on all of us. The Melania movie, Trump Kennedy Center, they so badly want to be cool. They don't want to just like own politics. They want to own culture. And the thing about culture is it's kind of hard to manufacture.
Starting point is 00:06:34 Culture really isn't something you can just create. Culture is something that's created from the people. It's bottom up, not top down. Of course, there are ways in which you can shape culture. But culture is really a product of the people. And this is such a clear example that Donald Trump, Melania, all the rest of the MAGA freaks, though they so desperately want to be like by us, They never will be.
Starting point is 00:07:00 They never will be. Not one ticket sold in Melania's movie in Boston. There's not one person who is saying, oh, I'll go check it out. That's incredible. And then the artist saying, no, actually, I don't care about your building. My art is more important than letting it be sullied by the name of Trump. Powerful statements happening right now. It really is interesting, too, that it is the artists who are leading
Starting point is 00:07:28 the way. It's the artists who are actually taking a principal stand against this administration, not the billionaires, not the CEOs, not the politicians. It's artists and it's everyday people. And I feel like I'm not the biggest student of history, something I could do better at. But I feel like that's kind of always the case, isn't it? It's always the artists who stand up and it's always the people who lead the way. And it's everyone else who eventually follows. So I love this. This is a very hopeful story and it shows to me that despite everything Donald Trump has done all of the things he controls. One thing they're never going to be able to control is whether or not people like you. And Donald Trump, America doesn't like you.
