And let's get some blue hearts into the chat. Let's get some energy up because I don't know about you, but my weekend was awesome. I got to spend it with all of you protesting against this terrible administration. Let's call it a regime. And it was so inspiring to be with all of you out there. And thank you to everyone who said, hi. We got to talk to Jamie Raskin and Maxwell Frost. You haven't seen that.

We have a video of that up right now. And really excited to go through the show today. We have an amazing guest. We have a member of Congress, rep Richie Torres, who is going to be joining us today to talk about Trump's tariffs. And really the unconstitutional bullshit, they are subjecting us all to. So I'm really excited to go through that with you. But first, we have some news to get through. And I have a question for you.

I've got a question because John Stamos was at Mara Lago this past week. And over the weekend. And he, I guess like we're going to put up a poll. But I want to know if you think that John Stamos should be canceled over this. Because it was a nonpartisan event. He was there for the nurses. and he said this statement here. He said, I accepted the invitation to emcee the Palm Beach, Ray of Hope Galley in an evening,

oh, whoops, in an evening dedicated to honoring and uplifting our frontline heroes. This nonpartisan event supports the Academy of Fernarcy. So basically he's saying, like, oh, this is a nonpartisan event. So get off me. I'm wondering what you think. So we're going to put up a poll. I think producer Hussein will put up a poll in just a bit to ask if you think John Stamos should get a pass for being there or if like going to Mara Lago, is going to Mara Lago? Like can no one go even if it's for a random event or is that is that kind of saying Donald Trump, you're like, you're kind of like implicitly saying Donald Trump is okay. So we will do that. But let's go to this first story. We have some actually good news.

Can you believe it? There's good news. The courts, the AP, wins a reinstatement to the White House after the judge has ruled that the government can't bar its journalists. And here, this is from a Trump judge. This is someone that Trump nominated got into the bench. And the Trump judge said this about them not allowing the AP to cut. the White House. They said, under the First Amendment, if the government opens its doors to some journalists, be it the overall office, the Eastern Room, or elsewhere, it cannot then shut those doors

to other journalists because of their viewpoints. McFadden wrote, the Constitution requires no less. So hell yes, baby. Hell yes. Finally, a win. Now, that's not going to go into effect for a week and we're going to see how the government responds. My guess is that he's going to want to send this stupid thing to the Supreme Court like he does every time, but this is still a really good thing that happened. I mean, it's so sad that we're at a point where like, well, at least the judge said the Constitution still matters, even if the president isn't going to say it. And so here's like the main thing I want to talk about. This is really shocking. Um, man. All right. Let's just go. This video is of, um, the White House press secretary, Caroline

Levitt. I'm not sure if you've seen this saying that the administration is looking into deporting U.S. citizens, U.S. citizens, deporting U.S. citizens and putting them into that El Salvadorian prison. The president has discussed this idea quite a few times publicly. He's also discussed it privately. You're referring to the president's idea for American citizens to potentially be deported. These would be heinous, violent criminals who have broken our nation's laws repeatedly. And these are violent repeat offenders in American streets. The president has said, if it's legal, right, if there is a legal pathway to do that, he's not sure. We are not sure if there is. It's an idea that he has simply floated and has discussed very publicly as in the effort of transparency.

What do you all think about that? I think this is abhorrent. I mean, this is them trying to whittle down our constitutional rights. They're attacking on all sides because Donald Trump, obviously, with the AP, he's attacking our First Amendment right. He's deporting people with green cards just because they decided to protest things that they did not agree with. And the fact that the press secretary says with her whole chest,

that the White House is working on deporting U.S. citizens to El Salvador should be like a non-starter here. And Jill says, send this barb to El Salvador. I understand why you think that. But we also, we don't want to say anyone to El Salvador. We don't want to send anyone to El Salvador. And here is what someone said, who is a historian. And she said, as the author of a history of concentration camps, I would like to emphasize. that this is a very bad idea. And she goes on to say, if you're standing at the lectern saying,

quote, we're not sure this idea is legal, but we're pretty excited about it, you might want to reevaluate your life choices. Yeah. Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. What else is someone else here? Let's see that if it's legal is a linguistic trick to get everyone to believe what they want to believe.

Donald Trump's been doing this the whole time. They know it's not legal, and they are definitely doing it. And afterwards, they will say, we told you so. Yes. Yes. And the Supreme Court, by and large, has been wanting to help him with his unconstitutional behavior every step of the way. And the Supreme Court also ruled yesterday that people are allowed to be deported the way that

they're being deported using the Alien Enemies Act, this act from like the 1700s, early 1800s that you're supposed to be using during wartime. The Supreme Court said that's okay now. So I don't have a lot of faith in the Supreme Court to uphold our rights. Let's see. Jeannie says they start out saying the worst of the worst and then down the road, political enemies, reporters, whoever goes against them. Exactly.

Exactly. This is a slippery slope, but we have to pay attention to it. We have to pay attention to it. And we also cannot let this be normal because what the mainstream media does is that they normalize this stuff. They normalize this stuff. And so they try to make it about left versus right. That's not what this is about. This is about American ideals versus fascism, period.

All right. Let's move on to this next story. Howard, I guess we're calling him, I guess everyone in the comments calls him Howard Nutlick. Howard Nutlick. Howard Lutnik wants to bring back U.S. manufacturing, and I think this is a terrible idea. I mean, obviously, we want people to be working in America, but we want them to have good jobs, fulfilling jobs. But here's his idea of what he wants, what his dream for the American worker is. Great American workers.

You know, we are going to replace the armies of millions of people. Well, remember, the army of millions and millions of human beings, screwing in little screws to make iPhones. That kind of thing is going to come to America. It's going to be automated. And great Americans, the trade craft of America is going to fix them, is going to work on them. They're going to be mechanics.

There's going to be HVAC specialists. There's going to be electricians. The trade craft of America are high school-educated Americans. The core of our workforce is going to have the greatest resurgence of jobs in the history of America to work on these high-tech factories, which are all coming to America. That's what's going to build our next generation of America.

Are you concerned? I personally want better for the American people than screwing in the screws for iPhones. I think we should want jobs for people who could really feel fulfilled by what they're doing. If anyone's going to be doing that job, I don't want to be Americans. I want Americans. I want to be this person who buys Nike Shoeuvre. I want to be the person who buys iPhones. I don't want to be the person who makes them. Why do we want to lower our standards? Why do we want to lower our standards? Someone says they're literally

advocating to go back to slave labor. That's right. That's right. They want us to be weak and poor so that they can control us better. Now, China, the TikTok of China, I think it's called Redme, released this meme red note, red note, of what it would look like if American workers actually took Chinese jobs. Let's look at this. Oh my gosh. Yeah.

So that is what we, that is one vision that the Trump administration has for us is Americans with these slave wage jobs. making things rather than having an economy where we buy things. And we have one more, oh, I want Elizabeth Warren to chime in, and then we're going to go to tomato time. Ambassador Greer, we lost 700,000 jobs each month in the last recession. If 700,000 Americans lose their jobs, will the Trump administration suspend these tariffs? Senator, I think the economists who are making these projections, who often are in favor of fully unfettered free trade, are the same ones you said in the first Trump term that putting tariffs.

Mr. Greer, let me just stop you there. I'm not asking about projections. I'm asking if the number show that 700,000 people have lost their jobs because of these new tariffs that Trump has slapped on, will the administration reverse course? And lift those tariffs. Senator, that's not going to happen. We've lost five million. It's not going to happen. Okay. I don't believe you. And you are ruining the economy.

And when you ruin the economy, this is how it works. When a recession happens, people feel like they can't spend money. And because they can't spend money, businesses cannot hire people. And because people cannot get hired, then they cannot spend money. It becomes this really awful thing. Before you know, you're in a depression. And so I love that Elizabeth Warren. there was really just putting a number on it

because that's how many people we lost during COVID and guess what? We're experiencing the same market loss as we did during COVID. Okay. Now, we have, all right, if you're new here, we have a, what would you call it? Like a segment where we don't ever want you to throw things

at politicians, especially tomatoes. But if you're going to, do it online. And so we have tomato time. where we invite you to smash the tomato emoji as Stephen Miller tweaks out getting mad about American manufacturing. Here we go. Tomato Time. Over the last 20 or 30 years? Yeah.

And by the way, we are, this is not, this is, we are on the, we are on the verge now because the President Trump's strength and leadership of fixing our entire global trading system. This is an astonishing fact. Did you know, for example, that we. have a $50 billion trade deficit with Japan alone in automobiles? Here's the country we protect. Here's a country that we defend. Here's a country that's an ally and partner of the United States. Why is it that we have a $50 billion automobile deficit with Japan and another $50 billion dollar automobile deficit with South Korea? Our troops are stationed right now in South Korea, keeping them safe and free. Our troops, our soldiers, away from home, away from Facebook.

family, it's in South Korea, $50 billion automobile trade deficit without one country alone. President Trump is going to fix our global trading relationships. And at the same time, he's going to work with Congress to make America in the manufacturing center of the world with the lowest taxes, the lowest regulations, and the cheapest energy. Oh, my gosh. I mean, if you're yelling, you're, if you're yelling, you're losing. If you're yelling, you're losing. And I kind of, this is a great tee off.

Really grateful you could join here. I have so much to ask you. And I'm wondering how you feel about this movement from the Trump administration to bring terrible jobs to America for Americans to work. Look, I'm all in favor of every member of the Trump administration resigning. Like I would be all for onshoreing the garment industry, footwear. If the Trump administration, if Howard Lutnik is going to insert those screws into the iPhones, I'm all for it.

Yeah, well, they're not. And I think that's a great point that, If they're not willing to do it, then why would they want anyone else to do it? That's such a great point. How are you, like, you know, the market has crashed repeatedly for the past four days. Is it now or whenever since maybe it's been a week? And these tariffs are just like the biggest self-own that America has ever experienced, at least in my lifetime.

And what is like the way out of this? Look, I'm in a state of shock. I mean, Donald Trump is on a suicide mission to crash the U.S. economy. Like, he's engineering one of the greatest destructions of wealth we've ever seen. You know, since inauguration day, America's lost $11 trillion in wealth. And in the 48 hours following Liberation Day, we lost $6.6 trillion within two days. And again, if President Biden had, you know, raised the highest tax. tariffs more than a century and raise the highest taxes in more than half a century,

Republicans would be an open revolt. The Republican Party would be screaming socialism. So for me, the hypocrisy from the Republican Party fucking boggles the mind. But for me, the lesson learned here is that we've gone too far in ceding too much power to the president. Like, just like we would never trust the president to set individual tax rates, why are we allowing the president to set tariff rates. Like, how could it be in a democracy that the president could impose one of the largest tax increases in American history is $600 billion tax increase on everyday Americans without an act of Congress, without public deliberation and debate, without any transparency and accountability? And that's happening because technically the

president is allowed to do this under times, like, under times of like an emerging, like an emergency situations, right? But there's no emergency. There's no emergency. So this is unconstitutional. Well, you don't think that Vietnam's control of the Garmin industry is not an emergency? You're right. Now that you've, now that you've made me think about it differently. The president, thank God someone's taking control. It is. And just the whole, and here's what's interesting. The Trump tariffs had the same impact on the S&P 500. as 9-11. The same fiscal impact as a terrorist.

The only difference is that it's completely self-inflicted. Like we have a madman in the White House who's on a suicide mission, and we're all going to pay a heavy price for it. And so is there a way out of this, or do we just have to, like, win the midterms? And in the meantime, this is just life as we know it. Or the Republicans, I suppose, could get a backbone. But I think you know as well as I do that will never happen. You know, there was a political observer who once described the New York City Council when it was their street renaming body as worse than a rubber stamp because at least a rubber stamp leaves an impression.

The Republican Congress is worse than a rubber stamp because at least a rubber stamp leaves an impression. And what we need is to win back the House in 2026, make Hakeem Jeffrey is the first black speaker in American history. because Donald Trump is eviscerating our country. Second chance, Chuck, is a good question following up on this. And why have Democrats not been able to pull more Republicans to the side of democracy? I'll just say, like, there's only so much we can do. But I would love your take on, like, what with Republicans, especially in the House. Look, we no longer have a traditional two-party system.

like the Democratic Party is a coalition, whereas the Republican Party has become a cults of personality around Donald Trump. It's a religion. And your rank and file Republican in the House lives in fear, has the fear of God of Donald Trump. Like Donald Trump is to republicanism, what Jesus Christ is to Christianity. I mean, the MAGA movement is a cult.

And if Donald Trump endorses against you as a Republican in a Republican primary, you will almost certainly lose. and that's the fear that that has led to absolute obedience to Donald Trump. And you know, I don't know if you know the statistic. I think it's shocking. I say it whenever I have the opportunity, 60% of the House Republicans were elected after 2016. So it is a completely subservient Republican Party to Donald Trump.

We do have one clip here that I want to play. You posted this, you posted this a couple of weeks ago, and it's got it her name escapes me that she's the rep from ukraine who she was let's play this um yeah who's saying we got that well before we get to that oh here we is okay we don't have it but what what she's saying is that basically that if you commit a crime you don't get due process and i think that is like one don't be president if not for due process because he abused due process to avoid accountability but people who commit crimes.

Yes. How do you determine someone has committed a crime if there's no due process? Yeah. It is, for me, of everything Donald Trump has done, like nothing is worse than the frontal assault on due process. He afforded a gay barber to a torture chamber in El Salvador. I'm so upset about this. Without notifying his attorney, without providing his attorney, without providing with an opportunity to contest the allegations in court without an order from a judge

authorizing the deportation. It was a complete disregard for due process. And what I would ask, I would tell people, this not only affects non-citizens, it affects all of us. Yes. Because Donald Trump is creating a world where the federal government can classify you as a non-citizen gang member, abduct you in the dead of night, and then render you to a foreign government to a torture chamber in El Salvador. Where they're now fighting, they're fighting, they don't even want to bring them back. They're saying, they're saying we don't want,

they're actively fighting bringing back people who are wrongly put there. For me, it's, and, you know, it's not an accident that there are more provisions in the Bill of Rights, protecting due process, protecting the rights of the accused, than any other right. And if you would ask me, of all the rights that I enjoy as in America, and the Bill of Rights, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of petition. None matters more to me than due process, because that is the foundation on which everything else

is built. I'm just going to share this real fast. You're going to love this. Lovely satin does not know this is repriticitoris. This is repritic tors from the Bronx, but she says, I am watching, I feel like I'm watching Trevor Noah and Obama in one man. Wow. Well, I'm funny, you know, back in 2016, I was on the street and someone has to be. asked my autograph. And, you know, I was only a counselor member at the time. So nothing is more flattering than I have someone asked for your autograph. And then she said, wait a minute, you're not chrappinilla. At which point, she had no interest. You kind of do look like them, actually. All right. Well, thanks for joining. I just want to say one thing I love about the Democratic Party is that we are a big, beautiful coalition of so many shades of blue, so many shades of blue. And I want to invite all the colors of blue on this show. And so I just want to say thank you for your activism.

Thank you for showing up today. And thank you for being so smart and funny because we need smart and funny Democrats doing interviews and online. And I think you have just such a great way about you that you don't take yourself too seriously. And in times like this, I think humor can be one of the best antidotes to authoritarianism. believe it or not. And so I wanted to read this. She says, this is Heather. I apologize for not calling in tonight as I am deaf. So it makes it difficult to do that and speak seamlessly without an interpreter of some kind. But I really wanted to say this as it seems Americans are a little slow to rage. I am a Canadian and I have been watching the U.S. since last year when Kamala Harris stepped into the election and what a joyous time to be alive that was. She is one of the kind and I truly believe she should be leading. Yes, yes, except the GOP we're successful in denying four million Democratic votes. But my question to America is this.

It's amazing that protests are firing up and it's finally time to stand up, but no one is really doing it in Trump's face. And she goes on to say that we should go to Marlago every weekend and that we should be marching when he's actually at the White House. And I have to say, Heather, this is a great point. This is a great point. And I believe one of the protests actually happened when Biden was still in the administration. And so I think, like, Canadians, I get it.

You are, you are rightful to be upset with us. And if the people, the good people are not doing enough, then please say so. But let us build up the muscle because hands off was one of the biggest demonstration. I think it was the biggest single day demonstration against Trump ever. Maybe I think if you count like all the different places around the country, I think, I don't know, 3 million, 5 million, 7 million. I heard an insane number with a million of people showed up. And so we will be doing more protests, but we also have to be safe because this is an administration

that wants to take away our rights. They want to take away our rights. They want to not give us due process. So my thought is that, yes, we need to, we need to be. in his face, but we also have to make sure that we're keeping everyone safe, too. So it's a bit of a balance here. It's a bit of a balance. And someone put here, 419. Tiffany says 419. Yes, there is another protest on April 19th. I don't have much information about it yet, but I do know that there's another protest on April 19th. Patricia, with the facts, baby, Patricia says, yes, it was 5.2 million people.

So we are showing up. I think you can always do more, but I'm super proud of all of us for making sure that we are showing this government that, one, we're paying attention and two, what they're doing is not going to go unnoticed, and we're going to be doing something about it.
