You don't want it, you don't need it, but you're going to get it anyway.
The Kevin Sheehan Show, here's Kevin.
You know,
First down in 20.
Got him.
There's McCloric.
Inside the 10 stays out of his feet into the end zone for a commander's touchdown.
51 yards, Marietta to McLaurin.
How about that?
We haven't seen that a lot this year.
Early fourth quarter, it didn't clinch the game because there were still some shenanigans to come late in the game.
But 51 yards to Terry McLaren giving Washington a 15-point line.
lead at that point in the fourth quarter, just good enough to lead to a snapping of the eight
game losing streak. I am in for a quick post game following the 29 to 21 win over the Giants.
Losing voice, to be honest, a bit of a cold. I feel fine, just losing the voice, but we will get
through this. Windonation is the presenting sponsor of this show, 86690 Nation, wind donation.com,

I can't say that this one, you know, was like really emotional in some sort of way.
I was not thrilled about this game heading into it because I wanted to see more of our starting
quarterback and our starting offense.
But I would imagine for players and coaches, they've got to be thrilled and probably
simultaneously relieved to end an eight-game losing skid, which lasted over two
months. For those of you wanting the best possible draft pick, your S-O-L now, for the most part. You
didn't get what you wanted. I didn't think the team was going to lose out. I thought they could
win another game, maybe two, who knows. And certainly today's game was their best shot to win
in a while. The Giants have their own eight game losing Skid right now after today. They're a bad
football team and apparently worse than our team. For the record, I
I like the way Washington played today.
They were prepared.
They were fired up.
They wanted it badly.
You know, the thought of dealing with a team that gave the impression that it gave last week in another game, you know, that would have started to give the fire everybody crowd some real, you know, ammo because it would have looked like they were quitting on their coaches.
And that would have led to tough conversations.
So I'm glad that Washington bounced back the way they did.
Last week was the worst loss of the season.
And if they had come out today and shown nothing again, yeah,
it would have gained some steam in terms of the crowd that wants Quinn and others
to be relieved of their duties a year after taking the team to the NFC championship game.
Not the way I feel for sure.
But Dan Quinn's teams, I've talked about this a lot.
lot. They just don't crater at the end of seasons. Quinn, as a head coach in his team's
final four regular season games, was 20 and four before today, 21 and 4 now. As a head coach
in Atlanta, and here in his second year in D.C., final four regular season games of each
season he's coached, he's now 21 and 4 in those games. And it's not like all of those teams
were good teams. A few of them were just fighting their way back to seven and nine a couple of
times. And eight and eight. They were non-playoff teams like this one. 21 and four at the end of the
season is likely not flukish. It's more likely a real sign of a resilient head coach and an ability,
which I think he has, to motivate when it's hardest to do it, when it's darkest to do it. You know,
Today, windy, cold, falling temperatures.
I mean, a dismal turnout crowd-wise.
Quinn got more out of his team a lot more than the interim coach on the other side did.
That's for sure.
It wouldn't surprise me if they show up big time on Saturday against Philadelphia.
That's their next game, Saturday 5 o'clock out in Landover.
It might not be enough to win.
The Eagles are obviously a lot better than the Giants.
but playing a potential spoiler role is extra motivating,
especially when it's against a division opponent.
You know, today was one of those all three phases games.
You know, Jalen Lane had a 63-yard punt return for a touchdown.
The defense didn't embarrass itself for the first time in Munson.
In fact, contributed with a big scoreboard turnaround play
at the end of the first half when Mikey San were still not.
not only picked off Jackson Dart, but returned it 55 yards, leading to points on the board
for our team while taking points off the board for the Giants.
Instead of it being 19 to 10 or maybe even 19 to 14 at the half, it was 22 to 7.
And then the offense, well, that was a much better idea today, Cliff.
That was a much better game plan.
They ran the football.
On Friday, I said, I want 33-plus attempts for at least 150 yards.
That was part of my keys to a win.
And I also said that I wanted 27 of the 33-plus to be from the running backs.
And I was hoping the lead on that would be Chris Rodriguez, but he was inactive with an injured groin.
Guess what?
27 rushes between Bill Kroski-merit and Jeff.
Jeremy McNichols, 27 carries.
Mario da added another 10, and Washington had 37 rushing attempts for 145 yards.
The 37 attempts, the most of the season, the most.
Now, part of it was, of course, the Giants had the 31st ranked rush defense in the league.
We talked about that last week.
And, by the way, Cliff had permission today to use the quarterback as part of the run game.
and Mariotta is really good at being a dual threat quarterback.
There's little doubt, though, that Cliff did a reversal from last week.
You know, remember the opening drive and the debacle at the end of that opening drive.
Chris Rodriguez is averaging eight yards of carry its second goal,
and they go three straight passes from the two-yard line.
He talked about that, you know, and took blame and accountability and said,
I had a bad day. I called some really bad plays. Well, today was one of those days where, you know, he did, I thought, a really good job, had the team prepared, called a really good game. And in fact, it was really just one of those days where all three phases can feel good about contributions made to the win. It was not a perfect game, that's for sure. And I'll get to some of that when I get to my game take.
This game's going to be a draft position difference maker more likely than not when we get to late April.
Washington's two-game lead now and sweep over the Giants means that number one's not going to happen.
In fact, they're not going to be anywhere near number one when all is set and done.
As of this afternoon, Washington slotted eighth overall another win, and they'll likely fall out of the top 10 if they were to get one more in their final three.
if you're counting and you're into that stuff.
Meantime, by the way, if you're counting,
Washington just completed its second consecutive sweep
over the New York Giants.
First time that's happened since the 1982 and 1983 seasons.
Of course, they won the Super Bowl in 82,
and then they got back to the Super Bowl and lost in 83.
Washington, by the way, is two and one currently
against the NFC East in this miserable
season, of course, they've got three left. Imagine if they win, you know, another one and they
finish 500 in the division, or what if they were to win two more? You know, upset either of the
Eagles or the Cowboys over the next two, and let's just say the Eagles have nothing to play for.
No seating, no division title, et cetera. And Washington ends up four and two in the division
in a, you know, six and 11 season. Anyway, I'm not rooting for it necessarily, and it wouldn't
really move me one way or the other. If it happened, I just think it would be interesting.
So many people put so much emphasis on division records, and they're important, but at the end
of the day, when you play 17, only six are against the division. You've got to do really well in
the other 11 to be a playoff team. By the way, the giants are two and 12 losers of eight
in a row. If they lose out, the giants will finish with their worst record.
in 51 years.
They've not won fewer than three games since the 1974 season when they went 2 and 12.
They played 14 back then.
They're 2 and 12 right now with 3 to go.
They do have the Raiders still on the schedule, so that might get them to 3.
All right.
Let me get to my game take.
We'll do that right after this from a few of our sponsors.

Pay attention. He is Kevin's Game Day.
Jaylon Lane from the 47, there is a flag across midfield.
Lane's still going inside the 20, the 10, into the end zone for a touchdown.
But remember, there is a flag.
So we'll check with the referee, Bill Venevich.
And after checking with Bill Vinovich, the head referee,
we found out that the penalty was on the Giants.
And Jalen Lane's punt return for a touchdown late in the second quarter stood.
The second one this year for Jalen Lane.
You've got to go all the way back to early in the season against the Raiders when he had that 90-yarder for a touchdown.
But he tied four others in franchise history with the most punt returns for a touchdown in a single season with two.
The last guy to do it was Brian Mitchell all the way back in 1994.

All right, let's get to my game take.
Thank you.
All right, the good, the bad, and a few other observations.
I'll start with the things that I thought were good from the game,
and the list is pretty long this week.
And it starts with the commitment to the run game.
They definitely got after it in the run game.
The offensive line did a phenomenal job, even without tonsil in there.
after he left the game, came back, and left the game. Coleman came in and did an excellent job.
I thought Kroski Merritt looked really good. I thought his vision was outstanding.
I thought his push after that initial contact was great. 18 carries, 96 yards, 5.3 yards per carry.
I like his running style, you know, there's no doubt about that. I think the biggest issue he's had,
as Steve Souter's pointed out, is after he gets to that next level, making that
second and third level miss so that he can be more of a home run threat. But he had several
double-digit runs, an 11-yard run, a 12-yard run, a 16-yard run. I thought he looked really
good, and I thought the offensive line did a great job. And I think the quarterback being presented
often as a run threat is a real big deal. Marcus Mariotta is really good in that game. And look,
he had 10 carries for 43 yards. I would guess six of them maybe were scrambles, maybe seven. Really
good scrambles, too. I'm going to get to his game because he's on the good list today.
And then McNichols did struggle in the run game, including that fumble at the end. I'll get
to the disaster in the final two minutes plus. Kroski Merritt also had a fumble that Josh Connerley
recovered. Connerley made his way to the good list, and I'll get to that momentarily. But I just
loved the commitment to the run game, and I think everything worked off of that. The Giants were really
conflict. The play action really worked. The play action on a first in 20-50 one-yard touchdown
pass to Terry McCorn worked because they just thought Washington today was committed to the run
game. So the run game overall, number one on my list, the commitment to it made everything else
possible and made everything else easy. You know, Marcus Marriott is not a drop-back quarterback.
And this offense this year hasn't had a drop-back quarterback that's really excelled in those situations.
So you've got to stay with the run.
You've got to be balanced.
You've got to have success running the football.
The score can't get out of hand where you're forced to get away from the run.
So the commitment and then the execution run game number one on the list.
Number two, how about just the big plays in general?
I mean, you start with the 63-yard punt return by Jalen.
Lane. He's a really decisive
returner. I went nuts
early in the season, and I
said, this guy is just a natural, and he's
going to be really good at this.
The problem, of course, is they just haven't had
enough opportunities this
year because their defense doesn't get off the field
enough and force teams
to punt. But Jaylen
Lane, with the big return
of 63 yards,
you had a 55-yard interception
return by San Francisco. I'm going to get
to that whole end of first half.
swing, which was huge. How about a 36-yarder, the longest of Ben Sennett's career, a 28-yarder
to Noah Brown before he got hurt again. The 19-yarder to Bates play action. There were just
big plays all day long, special teams, defense, and then big explosives on offense. So that
makes the list of things that I liked from the game. Third down,
defense two for 12 the giants were i mean Washington's not been a good defensive team they haven't
been good at doing anything this year today they got off the field uh and it was huge i mean they forced
some you know quick throws by jackson dart with some pressure and he was inaccurate he was better
when he was running as long as he wasn't being checked for a concussion that's like five times this
year he's been hit and pulled from a game for a concussion uh you know protocol uh he came back into the game
but third down defense, two for 12 on third down, specifically on defense, a couple of, you know, good performers, I thought.
I mean, number 34, you know, Hamilton Jr., Antonio Hamilton, senior, excuse me, I don't know how many snaps he played, but it was obviously a lot.
Jonathan Jones was out today, and I thought he was excellent in coverage.
You know, he had at least two or three really good coverages on Slayton in particular.
I thought that Preston Smith had some really good pressures on the day defensively.
And then Von Miller had a sequence all to himself.
I'm going to get to that where I get to the end of half
because there was a sequence of events at the end of the half
that totally changed a football game that was starting to sort of lean in the direction of the giants.
But, you know, a good day defensively.
Juan Martin had a couple of pass defenses, including the one in the end zone at the end.
Bobby Wagner had some big hits.
The two-for-12, though, on third-down defense, you know, getting the Giants off the field
and forcing another team to punt, what was it, five times, I think, that's just something
we haven't seen.
And, of course, they missed two field goals, so they contributed to a lot of this.
But I thought Hamilton, Jr. in particular, Von,
Miller, Preston Smith, you know, Bobby Wagner, Kwan Martin were among the players that stood
out. Josh Connerley Jr. on the list of Goodman. He recovered not one but two fumbles.
He recovered two fumbles in this football game. You go to the first one that he recovered
was on Washington's second drive. It was Carter strip-sapping Marcus Mariotta.
Abdel Carter had a day, didn't he?
Although really Washington with the play action and some of the getting it out quickly
and Marcus Marriota did a good job extending inside the pocket and outside the pocket.
But Connerly Jr. recovered that one on Washington's second drive of the game.
And then Kroski Merritt had a fumble on Washington's fourth drive of the first half.
And Connerley Jr. landed on it.
So Washington lived right today for the most part, but it sort of turned towards
the end, but when it turned, there was just too little time left. Before I get to Marcus Mariotta,
who is on my good list, let me just talk about this swing at the end of the first half.
So it began after the Giants cut the lead to 13 to 7, and they stopped Washington on a pretty
ugly three and out. And Tressway was backed up at about his five-yard line punting with under
two minutes to go, and the Giants are going to have a chance to get great field position and perhaps
take the lead or maybe cut it to three at halftime.
And Tressway unloads a 55-yard punt, and Jeremy Reeves nails Holland for a negative three-yard return.
58-yard net the Giants have it first in 10 from their own 25 with a minute 40 left instead of maybe somewhere near midfield.
So that's the first part of it.
The second part of it is the Von Miller defensive possess.
From their own 25, 2nd and 10, Miller makes a great move in Sacks Jackson Dart, 8-yard loss.
Then on 3rd and 18, the guy that's blocking Von Miller and messed up the first time, false starts trying to get a jump on Von Miller.
Now it's 3rd and 23, and the Giants throw a pass to Robinson and Wagner blows them up.
So they force the punt. Washington uses its last time out with a minute 20 to go.
So we went from punting in our own territory after giving up a score and now it's a one score game to having Von Miller and Tressway combined to having the Giants punt from deep in their own territory.
And that's the punt that Jalen Lane returns for a touchdown.
But it's not over yet.
The extra point is missed.
It hit the right up right Jake Moody's extra point missed.
So it's 19 to 7.
And the Giants, after Moody kicks the ball out of bounds, start at their own 40, and now quickly, they're at Washington's 35-yard line with 30 seconds to go.
And that's when Sanra still stepped in, picked off dart, returned at 55 yards, two plays later, field goal 22 to 7.
In about a minute 58, Washington went from potentially being down at the half or just holding a three-point lead at half,
to having a 15-point lead at halftime.
That was a wild sequence and a real impactful sequence on the game.
Next up on the good list before I finish up with Marioada.
Look, the Giants missed two field goals.
They dropped multiple passes in the game.
They helped out a lot.
You need that kind of help.
It's funny, Washington ultimately, and we'll get to this when I get to the battle,
list. They lost the turnover battle. They lost the penalty battle, but the Giants missed out on
points and some big plays with drops. So that was on the good list. And then I'm going to finish up
with Mariota. Look, Mario was the beneficiary of a, you know, terrible defensive opponent the way
they've been playing. But more importantly, a coordinator who said, you know what, we're going to
take advantage of it. We're going to take our strength, which is our offensive line, and even
our backs, even though Rodriguez wasn't there. I was actually concerned before the game started
without Rodriguez, would they run it? McNichols got the start. McNichols was the one that took over
for Rodriguez, and then Bill, I guess it was the hot hand, and he deserved it. But I thought
Marcus Marriota did a phenomenal job in multiple areas. One, as a scrambler, he has great
feel. He's always been great at this. Not only did he scramble and make yards and important
yards, including at the end of the first drive, he scrambled for 11 yards on 3rd and 20,
which got him into field goal range for the field goal that made it 3-0. That was a huge play.
He made big throws. He made that throw 28-yard or to Noah Brown on the opening drive.
He, I thought, really did an excellent job at feeling where the rushers were and stepping up or
stepping to the side or getting outside the pocket and making plays.
Now, there were plenty of opportunities where he didn't have to do that because play action
off the run game really held up.
I mean, he had some time, but I'm just going down my notes.
The good from Mario da, you know, that first throw to Noah Brown, the 11-yard scramble,
as I mentioned in the field goal range, go to their fourth drive, first and 10, great play
action debates for 19 yards. Excellent play. I'll tell you, there's a play on their fifth
drive offensively. This is before the Tressway 55-yard punt. It's first and 20 because we had
the Debo hold, which was a bit questionable, to be honest with you. And there's a screen that's
about to get blown up and Mariotta doesn't throw it. And he's about to get sacked for maybe a
seven-yard loss. It's going to be second and 27. Somehow he gains two or three yards. An amazing
sort of escape there for him.
Really good scramble on their opening drive of the third quarter.
That didn't end in points, but he scrambled for seven yards on a second and ten to set up a third and three.
I think it was.
He had a really nice throw to Terry who did a great job of keeping his feet in bounds on that drive.
The touchdown pass to Terry, remember, came on a first and 20 after.
two penalties. That was great play action. Even though it's first and 20, you can see how
effective the play action is. Shotgun, by the way. A lot of shotgun today with him. He's much more
comfortable. You know, there were obviously some plays that weren't that good. There was a
read option on their second drive that I thought he should have kept it, and I think he'd still be
running. The strip sack came literally the play after he nearly threw a pick to Debo. He was lucky
to get away with that.
What else do I have here?
Well, of course, the fumble late in the game.
I mean, the whole end of the game,
and I'm going to focus on that when I get to the bad list,
but he just drops the football.
The random, you know, big mistakes from him
have been a killer for him his entire career,
which is why he's always ended up being much more of a backup
or a low-end starter.
But overall, look, the explosives, he only completed 10 passes, but for 211 yards, he missed a couple of throws.
But the throws he hit on were big, really big.
I thought he did a really good job for the most part.
I would guarantee you that pro football focus is probably going to ding him so badly for the fumble
and maybe the near pick and the strip sack fumble that Connerly jumped on.
But I thought, you know, like several of his games this year where I've probably graded him higher than maybe the advanced people have, I just think he's been a gamer this year. And that's not really what he was before Washington. I mean, that Denver game will stick out for the, you know, as a memory, you know, it's a loss. But it'll stick out as just, you know, Marioita turning into a gunslinger. The opponent certainly had something to do with it. The game plan had a lot to do with it. But I thought he executed.
much more at a high level than boneheaded level,
which there were some boneheaded plays.
But 10 of 19 for 2.11, I mean, when you don't have to throw it that much,
and even on the dropbacks where he's scrambling,
there are a couple where he probably takes off
because he knows he can get, you know, seven on a second and 10
to set up a third and three.
Yeah, Marcus Marietta is on the good list.
Bad list. Offensively, they just were not very good on third down. Some of that was on him. Some of it was on penalties.
They had 11 penalties for 67 yards. I said the other day, you got to play a clean game to win any game at this point, even against a bad opponent.
That means no drops, no penalties. You can't lose the turnover battle. They lost the penalty battle and the turnover battle, and they still were able to win the game.
of 11 on third down.
Again, some of that
was penalties.
Also on the list
of not very good.
Where is it?
They just gave up too many yards on the ground
to Tracy and to dart. One of the keys
was you got to keep dart in the pocket.
If he's decisive
and you give him a lane, he'll take it and he'll
run. And he had 63 yards on nine
scrambles basically. That's seven yards of
scramble. And Tyrone Tracy, 15,
for 70, 4.7 yards per carry.
I think Tracy's a good back.
I thought it was a good back last year.
So Washington, not a great job really against the run.
I thought New York dropped back way too much,
but they also got behind in the game.
Their best mode of moving the football was really on the ground
or the screens that they ran to Theo Johnson in particular.
And they missed opportunities, man.
Dart missed a bunch of throws.
And like I mentioned before, there were a bunch of,
drops. Moody missed a P.A.T. then kicked it out of bounds in that sequence at the end of the half
before the Sanra still pick. And then look, you know, the shenanigans at the end of the game. I mean,
come on, man, you're up 29 to 14. You're salting this game away with, you know, good offense.
You're in the midst of a drive. You picked up a first down. And, you know, there's five minutes
and 40 seconds left, and Mariotta gets sacked, and he just drops the ball on the ground.
Like, you got to hold on to that football and punt. You're up 15. You can't give him field position.
And then after they scored in like three or four plays to make it 29, 21, you really are in position to kind of run out the clock.
It's a first in 10. You know, after you picked up that Senate, you know, 36-yard second and 10 play action,
and McNichols gets nailed in the backfield by Carter,
I think it was Carter, and he then takes the ball.
Fortunately, he was down at that spot.
They started playing lateral, you know, they lateral three times,
and they had it down to the Washington 29-yard line,
but they still took over first and 10 at their own 49 after the fumble.
I mean, you can't fumble.
I mean, Marioidos wasn't even forced.
McNichols was forced, at least.
So, yeah, I mean, they gave the Giants an opportunity with, you know, two, whatever it was,
238, I think left from their own 49-yard line down 29-21 to potentially go down and tie the game.
And look, they, you know, had a couple of deep shots.
There were a couple of close plays.
I think the Robinson and Miller play was close.
Hamilton on Slayton a little bit close.
But Washington prevailed.
I'm just looking through my notes here to see if there's anything else on the list of bad.
No, I got a few other observations to end it right after these words from a few of our sponsors.

Guys, personal experience with a product that I want to tell you about, it's Zbiotics,
and their product called pre-alcohol.
Let's face it, after a nighted drinks,
most at our age anyway, don't bounce back the next day like we used to.
You either have that choice the night before of,
do I have a drink or two, or do I pass?
Because I don't want to feel badly the next day.
Well, there's a surefire way to wake up feeling fresh

It's with pre-alcohol.
Zbiotics pre-alcohol was invented by PhD scientists

The Giants' 39.
The ball came loose.
Giants have it.
It's recovered by Carter.
And then he laterals it back.
This is Paulson Adiebo.
He sends it back to Givon Holland.
And Holland is finally upended inside the 30.
The recovered fumble did come back to the giant 49-yard line.
Carter was actually down by contact after stripping.
McNichols in recovering the fumble.
Kenny Albert on the call for Fox.
I think Kenny Albert's always really good.
Anyway, Washington held on, got the stop, and won the game 29 to 21.

of right now. The smell test is at two and one for the weekend. I had Atlanta on Thursday night,
lost with Kansas City in the one o'clock window, but got the win with Baltimore. And I've got
New Orleans here in the late afternoon window. They're down 1710. We'll see what happens. Then I've
got the Vikings tonight. So hopefully two more wins and a little four in one weekend. Not bad.
betting on sports can be done and can be done well effectively and fairly at my bookie.

All right, just two quick observations.
I'm pretty sure I haven't mentioned.
So in Washington's second drive, they did what Howard Gutman hates that they do.
They did it against Denver, remember, and Howard thought it was the turning point in the game.
But on their second drive, this was after Mario Adelaide got.
sacked and Connerley fell on it, the strip sack.
They were in field goal range, and that knocked them back to the 38-yard line, and they punted.
You shouldn't punt at the other teams 38.
In today's NFL, teams don't punt at the other teams 38.
Now, it was 4th and 13, and they were, I believe, going into the wind, and it was windy,
and it was cold, and you saw it even on the moody missed extra point.
so I don't think that Quinn wanted to give them the ball at the 45-yard line on a missed field goal.
So I didn't have as much of an issue with this one, but Howard's not wrong.
In today's NFL, I would say 40 and in, it's like 85% either go for it or kick a field goal in today's league.
Hell, I mean, you can almost say that once you get to the other team's 43 because we see 60 and in attempted all the time.
The other thing, what else did I have?
On the very opening drive when the Giants challenged the spot on the third and three slant to Terry,
I didn't think he got it either.
I was surprised they came back from that and they gave him the first down.
They upheld the call on the field.
I actually thought they were going to overturn that call.
What else did I have?
Oh, Jacob Martin, nearly with a pick six on an RPO.
He read it almost like Van Ginkle did last week.
So I like Jacob Martin.
He's obviously become one of Souter's favorite players this year.
But that was a really close call for Jackson Dart and the Giants
because Jacob Martin read it perfectly.
Other than that, I think that's it.
Done for the day.
Back tomorrow.
If there's a reason to do a show tomorrow, just hoping to have some voice.
by the time we get to tomorrow.
But we'll see if there's any news on whether or not Jaden Daniels will play on Saturday
against the Eagles, a much different, you know, test, obviously coming up with the Eagles
off of their 31-0-0 win today over the Raiders.
They're looking pretty good.
Dallas has to win to have a shot.
I didn't think the Eagles would lose today by any stretch, but it's a good bounce-back
win for them both defensively and offensively.
and there was some insane one o'clock action today.
How about Buffalo's comeback against New England
and Mahomes appears to be seriously injured?
We'll see how that plays out.
More likely than not a show tomorrow,
but you got this for now.
Take care.
