Starting point is 00:00:02 You don't want it. You don't need it. But you're going to get it anyway. The Kevin Sheehan Show. Here's Kevin. Tommy's here. I am here. The show's presenting sponsor is Window Nation.
Starting point is 00:00:16 Call them at 86690 Nation or head to Window Nation. I mention my name for a free, no obligation in-home estimate. I am assuming that you watched the NBA's Eastern Conference Finals game one. last night, which was a thriller, a thriller in part because of a lot of the mistakes that were made by Indiana in particular, which set up the thrilling finish, which was an overtime game, won by Boston. So what did you think of game one of the Eastern Conference finals? Well, like Felix Unger once said, when you assume you make an ass out of you and me. Yes, that is the old saying. I didn't know it came from.
Starting point is 00:01:02 from Felix Unger. Yes, I don't know if it did, but it's a famous odd couple clip. I did not watch the NBA Eastern Conference finals. I invested my time in something much better. On HBO, there is a four-part series right now called Solesville USA. It's the history, Solesville, S-O-L-S-U-L-S-Vil.
Starting point is 00:01:31 Oldsville. Yeah. It's the history of Stacks record from their early days with Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, to Isaac Hayes. And it is so good. It's the best thing you can watch on TV right now. It is, it's the Levero Southern Soul Tour of 2022. Remember when I came back from Florida and I went to Muscle Shoals and Memphis and Nashville, that's what this is.
Starting point is 00:02:00 This is Stax, Ground Zero for Southern Soul Music, the history of Stax Records. I watched three of the four episodes that are available on that last night. So I did not watch. Tell people what this is. I mean, tell people what's – I've heard of Stacks records, but I don't know much about the history. You said Otis Redding. Who else were – this was a label, correct? It was a label in Memphis, a small little label in Memphis, set up.
Starting point is 00:02:30 an old movie theater. And Otis Redding was one of their first big stars. You know, not Wilson Pickett. Wilson Pickett was with Atlantic. He recorded at Muscle Shultz. But Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Booker T and the MGs were the house band for Stacks Records. And it's a story how this small little Memphis Recording Studio, basically,
Starting point is 00:03:00 built themselves up to be one of our most influential companies in music business, when the music business was in New York at the time. And at one point, their whole, because of a distribution deal they made with Atlantic Records in New York, they lost their whole catalog. At one point, like in the late 60s, you know, Atlantic took over all their catalog because of a bad contract that the Stax founders signed, and they lost Otis Redding's records. That all went to Atlantic, and then they rebuilt it again with Isaac Hayes and the staple singers and people like that.
Starting point is 00:03:43 It's just an inspiring great music series that I recommend it to everybody, certainly over the NBA Eastern Conference finals, which you can pretty much want in one clip of an in-bounds pass, are I right? Well, let me just ask you a quick question. Was Isaac Hayes? Isaac Hayes was on the Rockford Files, right? Yes. He was, um... He played Gandalf Fitch.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Exactly. He was such a great character. Oh, it was fabulous. And the relationship he had with Jimmy was great. He called him Rockfish. Yeah, called him Rockfish, exactly. And he played a tough guy. Yeah. On the show, a legbreaker.
Starting point is 00:04:25 But in real life, he was so soft-spoken. and easygoing. Right. And very influential, because he was a songwriter for years before he became a performer. Like he wrote a lot of, he helped write a lot of the great songs that Sam and Dave did, that Otis Redding did. It was David Porter and Isaac Hayes. And then when Stacked was trying to reinvent itself again,
Starting point is 00:04:53 Isaac Aves became a performer. And he came up with this album called Hot. buttered soul that was just massive, a massive album. And then he wrote the theme, he wrote the score and the theme song for Shaft, the movie. And that became such a big hit. Richard Roundtree. Isaac Kaye, yes, Isaac Hayes won the Oscar for Best Song for Shaft, and that's the first time, I think, an African-American ever want an Oscar for Best Song.
Starting point is 00:05:28 at the Academy Awards. It's a great series. You know, and like I said, the NBA Eastern Conference Finals, it's a five-second clip of an in-bounce pass at the end of it. Yeah, that was it. That was basically it. I actually, I'm interested in watching this now. It's on HBO?
Starting point is 00:05:47 Yes. And you, it's a four-part series. And you've watched three of them. It's truly documentary, though, right? I mean. Oh, yeah. Okay. Yeah, it's documentary.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Okay. It's documentary. And the years... And I was in... When I went to Memphis, I toured Stax Studios. So I was inside the place. Oh, wow. For a lot of what they talk about.
Starting point is 00:06:12 That interests me. And that time and that era, especially you're saying in Memphis, you know, with Martin Luther King and everything that was going, you know, down in the 50s into the 60s, is that also a big point? part of the show or not? Yes, it is, because I mean, part of the short story of Stacks was how in such a racially charred city like Memphis
Starting point is 00:06:39 where sometimes the cops would beat up black people for being on the same sidewalk with white people. Right. In Stacks, they had this working family of white and black people
Starting point is 00:06:55 united together. to create great music, and they were like a family. And the Dr. King assassination changed the whole country, I think. And it changed the working relationship in stacks. You mean, nobody looked at each other the same way anymore after that. So the Dr. King assassination is a big part of the story. Now, I never knew that the, I mean, the Dr. King was in Memphis to speak. in support of the sanitation workers who were striking.
Starting point is 00:07:34 Well, the night before he was shot at the Lorraine motel or hotel, I think it was more of a motel, he gave that very famous speech about not fearing any man, you know. Yes, and that's in the show. It is. But I never knew details about the sanitation strike itself. I mean, part of what was going on was only the white guys drove the trucks and the black guys dumped the trash into the truck. And what happened was two guys were taking a break in the back of the truck, and they got caught in the compactor and crushed the death to black guys. And that's what triggered the whole sanitation strike in Memphis that brought Dr. King to the city.
Starting point is 00:08:27 know any of that. So yeah, that's a big, there's a lot of American history involved in the series as well. You're a big Otis Redding fan, right? Oh. Yeah. Listen, if I, you know, sometimes people say if you could go back in time and pick a couple of people that you could meet and talk to, one of them would be Jackie Robinson and the other would be Otis Redding. He died at the age of 26. at a plane crash right before his biggest hit sitting on the dock of the bay was released. So he never got to see his biggest success. Like so many performers, he died in a small plane crash, traveling from one show to the other.
Starting point is 00:09:14 But yeah, I'm a huge, Joe, his fan, the King of Soul. I think you may have done sitting on the dock of the bay as a karaoke number one year. I did it at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They had a karaoke band That's a rock and roll hall fame A live band And I did it there And I got massive
Starting point is 00:09:35 You know like typical Tommy purified performance I got massive applause Of course It was certainly about the Incredible performance Because most of them were I just I'm sorry you hung it up Maybe you'll get it back
Starting point is 00:09:51 This you know The winter of 25 when you're summering in the Florida West Coast Panhandle. I think that's a comeback tour for Tommy Purify. I think we got a comeback tour. Yes. The wounds run deep, Kevin. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:11 So, yeah, I mean, the game last night, God, I mean, I so wanted Indiana to win. There's something about Boston. I want them to win. There's something about. I want them to win. Yeah, there's just something about the Celtics. I just don't like. It's not the Celtics history and their brand.
Starting point is 00:10:34 It's this particular team. And I just don't know if they've got the killer instinct in Tatum and Brown or anybody else. It just seems like there are teams that they play that they shouldn't be messing around with and should beat easily. And they don't. I mean, they lost to Miami last year. Game 7 at home, they could have lost to Miami a couple of years ago. And the Pacers, Tommy, were massive underdogs at the beginning of this series. I mean, I think you had to lay minus 850 to take the Celtics somewhere around there.
Starting point is 00:11:14 They were 10-point favorites in game one with the Pacers coming off that game 7 win in the garden. And it was right there for Indiana to steal. game one and, you know, really make this potentially a series. You know, you take one of those first two, and it was a massive lost opportunity. And I have a feeling we're going to look back after a very short series, maybe a four or five game series and say, if they had just held on to game one, it wasn't just the thrown away pass. They had a turnover before that. They had the ball twice in the final 27 seconds of regulation with a three-point lead, and they had back-to-back
Starting point is 00:11:58 turnovers. And, you know, those complaining about whether or not Jalen Brown should have been fouled before he got the three-pointer off. First of all, that is a contested, so difficult shot to hit. And you would have risked potentially him being in a shooting motion. I think it would have been close. The story of this game was Indiana messing themselves. up. I mean, they just soiled themselves down the stretch and even in overtime. They ended up with 21 turnovers in the game. And so many of them were so crucial down the stretch. It was another one of those incredible shot-making nights. I mean, Halliburton had some big-time shots. I really love the way Pascal Seaccom has played for Indiana. Tommy, that's a
Starting point is 00:12:51 guy that, you know, doesn't necessarily live beyond the arc. He lives in that elbow, you know, at the free throw line either side or right at the, you know, midpoint of the free throw line. He is deadly from that range. Tatum was great, you know, Jalen Brown hit shots, but I just don't like the Celtics. And whoever comes out of the, it's going to be really hard for me if it's Dallas versus Boston, because I'm going to want both teams to lose that series. At this point, I'm rooting for the Pacers, but I think they blew their opportunity. I'd love to see Minnesota in the finals against Boston and see if they could rough Boston up with their defense. But just a massive lost opportunity last night.
Starting point is 00:13:36 I'm with you all the way. I want to see Minnesota in the finals. and Boston just had too much talent, it seems like, to not screw it up in this case. They're just better, they're just better players, much better players than Indiana. And you're right, this was an opportunity for the Pacers. And did Rick Carlisle make a mistake at the end of the game with the inbound pass? Yeah, I mean, he probably could have called a time out and advanced it. I'll tell you this, but even from that spot on the inbound play, you have to tell Nemhard,
Starting point is 00:14:15 the one place you can't throw the ball is towards Boston's basket. And so that was, you know, that's a pass that, first of all, teams, I like Carlisle as a coach. I think one of the most unbelievable things in watching the NBA over the years is how few plays teams have to get the ball in bounds against pressure. You know, you don't face a lot of full court pressure in the NBA, although Minnesota's played it and played it against Denver. You don't see full court pressing, you know. So you turn around after a made bucket and you throw the ball into a guy who's unguarded,
Starting point is 00:15:00 98% of the time. At lower levels of basketball, Tommy, if you're coaching a team that, you know, plays at a certain level, you have multiple plays to get the ball in bounds against pressure. You know, from underneath, you know, the opponent's basket, from the corners, from the sidelines, you have plays to get somebody the ball. And by the way, in that particular situation,
Starting point is 00:15:32 you have to have plays to get your best free throw shooter. the ball. They should be catching the ball on the inbound's pass, but what you typically see at the NBA level, it blows me away, is just Operation Get Open. They're so quick, they're so athletic, and somebody will just break free. You know, most good, well-coached teams at the high school level, you know, at the end of games like that, you'll see them use their best free-throw shooters is screeners, because screeners typically are the ones that break open after they set a screen. And you don't see that. You can't throw the ball towards their basket on the inbounds. Yeah, it was, you see that a lot. I just, major lost opportunity for Indiana. That game
Starting point is 00:16:27 should have been over. They should have won that game one, stolen it from Boston in a spot where you don't expect them to win game one. Big underdog coming off that emotional game seven win. Just a quick turnaround, too. That game was Sunday afternoon. Last night's game, Tuesday night. Tough loss. Tonight game one of the Western Conference finals should be a great series.
Starting point is 00:16:51 I picked Boston, I think, on the show yesterday with you in five, and I picked Minnesota in six. So we'll see what happens. By the way, I want to go ahead. Let me ask you a question, coach. Yes. About this. Yep.
Starting point is 00:17:07 I remember, you know, I've followed so much about Larry Bird on YouTube. I mean, like I said, I've said before, Larry Bird's legend has only grown on YouTube, and I've read that he insisted when possible to always make the in-bounds pass. He was the one who wanted to in-bounce the ball. Now, he was their best player. You would think he'd want to be on the court to catch the in-bounds. pass to shoot it. But what about that?
Starting point is 00:17:38 No, both spots are important. You want one of your highest IQ players to be inbounding the ball, too, because you want to make sure that what Nembard did last night doesn't happen. You know, Larry Bird's not going to throw the ball towards the other team's basket to a covered, you know, player on the court. So, no, they're both important. You always want, you know, one of your smarter players to be inbounding the ball. You know, depending on where you are on the court, typically you don't want a smaller player throwing the ball in bounds against a taller player.
Starting point is 00:18:17 But yeah, no, that's true. But remember, that team with Danny Ains and DJ, you know, they had so many options not only as inbound passers, but as guys that would catch it, that would be great free throw shooters as well. All right. We got a couple things that we want to get to on this show. I did want to mention to everybody that I am taking off today to head to South Carolina. I'm going to go play golf for a few days, hit the beach, Tommy, with family, extended family, and enjoy this long weekend. It'll be a much longer weekend for me. But I did record two shows, one for tomorrow and one for Friday, with Cooley, where he did. does four film breakdowns. He does Mikey Sanristil, Johnny Newton, Brandon Coleman, the offensive lineman from TCU, and Luke McCaffrey from Rice, the receiver, Christian McCaffrey's
Starting point is 00:19:18 younger brother. And let me just give you a headline. He loves one of the four players. And another of the four, he really likes a lot. So I We'll have shows up tomorrow and Friday. All right, we'll get to more right after these words from a few of our sponsors. Down to the final four in the NBA playoffs, guys. Starting point is 00:23:54 a lot of, I mean, viewership is up, and the Rangers are obviously a big part of that. But at Shelly's, you'll find a lot of hockey fans, because that's That's where a lot of Caps fans go before the game and after the game. The NFL is going to implement optical tracking systems for yardage rulings this preseason.
Starting point is 00:25:14 So say goodbye to those that hold the chains and bring out the measurement sticks. It's going to get tested this preseason with the potential for full-time implementation as early. as the regular season in 2024, this upcoming regular season. The league considers this a test run of accuracy on line to gain rulings. I think many people have always felt, doesn't the technology exist? And I think some of these other leagues have used some of this stuff. Doesn't the technology exist to move away from 10-yard chains with guys holding down markers and bringing out for measurements? And not only that, you know, the final placement of the ball.
Starting point is 00:26:09 The league has experimented with the system in the past, but would need to install it in every NFL stadium for functional use in the regular season. The league's competition committee apparently approved this in March, but we'll see whether or not it works in the preseason and whether or not it could be something that we get in the regular season this year. I mean, it's very possible that this upcoming NFL season will include two kind of jarring changes in terms of how we look in view football. You've already got one with the new kickoff. rule, which will make the kickoff look completely different than kickoffs we've been watching
Starting point is 00:26:56 for our entire lives. And then the possibility of using technology for first down, you know, for line markings and yardage markings. I'm okay. I don't, I'm not a big fan of this kickoff rule, but I want to see it before I really am definite on how I feel. I, I don't, I don't like that most of the kickoffs are touchbacks, and I understand the reasons why we've had what we've had, but it's also a function of better stadiums and indoor stadiums and kickers with much stronger legs. I'm going to wait to judge on the new kickoff rule after I've seen it implemented and seen it live for a few weeks at least. This one to me makes sense. If they can get it right and the technology is solid. This makes a lot of sense.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Look, I think fans are generally nostalgic about the way things have always been done. It's what they're used to. I don't think there's any nostalgia about guys carrying chat chain on the field to measure for first down. I don't think there's any warm particular feeling about that. And I think this is a change that if implemented, will be welcomed, and the old chain markers will not be missed. There'll be a museum item in Canton in the Pro Football Hall fame. But typically when we make changes, even for the better, people are nostalgic for the old way. I don't think there's going to be any of that with this.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Is there a league, is there a professional sports league where fans are more nostalgic than the NFL? Baseball. Yeah, baseball. Yeah, but baseball may be in the next couple years undergoing the greatest change of all. Electronic umpires at home plate. Yeah. That is going to be dramatic. Mark Maskey had something to yesterday.
Starting point is 00:29:07 He said that the NFL owners yesterday in Nashville, and that's where the electronic system for measuring first downs, that's where that news came out of. He said NFL voters, NFL owners voted in Nashville to approve a proposed time limit for interviewing head coaches whose teams are still active in the playoffs. You know what the interview time length maxes? Three hours. That's a long effing interview. They're proposing to limit these head coaching. interviews while their teams are still active in the playoffs to three hours. I'll be honest with you.
Starting point is 00:29:56 I know that you made fun of the process a little bit that Josh Harris and the search committee went through. And I even said to you, yes, some of this, you know, the pre-interview and then they go to Florida and they interview there and then Josh Harris leaves the room, but he comes back a little bit later on. I'm like, wow, that is a lot of interviewing. Yes, you know, these coaches that are in the playoffs, we talked a lot about Ben Johnson, you know, during that month of January.
Starting point is 00:30:28 And ultimately, you know, this guy obviously was not ready or may never be ready. Who knows to be a head coach. But it's really hard, isn't it, to ask these guys to spend hours. And apparently three would be short. So let's just say that twice that amount was the time that these teams wanted to spend with these candidates as they are getting themselves ready for the biggest games they've ever coached in. I agree with you.
Starting point is 00:31:00 I mean, I don't get, what's the longest interview? How many job interviews have you had? You're not a guy who's probably had a lot of job interviews. You've interviewed people. I'm not sure you've had a lot. I have interviewed a lot of people, you know, not in my recent job history, but in my my past job history. I've been on a lot of job interviews, yes. I mean, but I don't... Mine have never taken very long. I mean, not counting testing, not counting testing that you have to take
Starting point is 00:31:34 the actual interview itself. You know, they've never really taken very long. I actually remember one interview that was very long. So this was 20 years. years ago, at least. And I was being interviewed for a position for an internet e-commerce company that was Chinese-based. And they were moving their product into the U.S. And the headhunter, and I think it was corn fairy, I think it was corn fairy, interviewed me for the job that was available. And I'm telling you, it was three hours. It was a three-hour interview with one group of people coming in after another. And I thought to myself, like, I just remember personally that it's really hard to keep people's attention for like
Starting point is 00:32:35 more than an hour or an hour and a half. It doesn't matter if they're adults or children. Like I never loved holding meetings that went much past an hour. You know, there are all day off-site meetings and things like that. But I'll never forget that. I think I sat there for three or four hours and just one group of people after another. I did not get offered the job. I did not get offered the job. Those were the headhunters. They were the, right? It was the head hunter. Yeah, it was the head hunter. So they weren't even the company representative. No. Now, there was somebody representing the company in one of the interviews. And actually they were on conference.
Starting point is 00:33:20 It was like a conference call. It wasn't even, you know, it wasn't video conferencing at that point. It was available at that point, but that wasn't how they were brought in. But yeah, I don't know how you sit down with an offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator is his teams getting ready for the biggest game. I mean, in Detroit's case this year, it was the biggest games. they've had pretty much in franchise history. Yes.
Starting point is 00:33:47 It's 1957. Yeah. By the way, football news, Washington, it's been reported, is going to have one joint practice that we know of with the Miami Dolphins. So, you know, there's been talk of, you know, these joint practices and the benefit of the joint practices. I think the joint practices, most coaches will tell you, are much. more beneficial than preseason games.
Starting point is 00:34:16 Although I remember having this conversation with somebody with the team. This goes back 10 years. And joint practices were happening. The most famous for us were those Patriots joint practices down in Richmond, where it was like the Patriots were laughing at how disorganized Washington was. But the one thing I remember this coach telling me was, you guys. get a lot more out of a scrimmage or a joint practice than you do a preseason game, but nothing can replicate the timing of a preseason game. There's a clock involved.
Starting point is 00:34:56 You've got to be organized. You've got plays going in over the headset. It's a real live game situation, and it does help with your younger players in particular in being able to simulate that. but Washington and Miami. Traditionally, if I'm recalling or at least under the Jake Gruden, Bruce Allen era, these shared practices usually ended in a brawl. Well, yeah. There was the brawl with Houston when they were in Richmond
Starting point is 00:35:33 for those joint practices. Yes. And these joint practices typically happen, right before they play each other in a preseason game. And that's when it's going to happen with Miami. Yeah. Right. They're played down in Miami on their preseason game.
Starting point is 00:35:48 Yeah. The preseason schedule, by the way, was also released when the regular season schedule came out. They have the NFC teams have the nine home games, eight road games in the regular season. And so that means the NFC teams play two road preseason games, one home preseason. game. Washington plays the Jets in their first preseason game, the dolphins on the road, jets on the road in their first preseason game, the dolphins on the road in their second preseason game. And then they actually finish with, as somebody pointed out, when I said they hadn't been scheduled for Sunday night football since 2021. Somebody tweeted me and said,
Starting point is 00:36:31 oh, you're wrong. They're scheduled for Sunday night football in the preseason against the New England Patriots on August 25th. It's actually the final preseason game of the NFL preseason. And so then they'll have two weeks to prepare for the opener. It's probably better to play that final preseason game on Thursday or Friday. Then you have like 15, 16, 17 days to prepare for the opener. But they do play. Oh, that'll be the big, that'll be the big Jaydon, Daniels, Drake May Showdown. Yeah, I'll be. they don't really play in that final preseason game. We've seen that. We actually thought that because there was so much time now between the final preseason game and the season opener, the teams would
Starting point is 00:37:18 play more of their starters in the third and final preseason game, but I don't think it's really worked out that way. I think they're playing their key players in the second preseason game, which ultimately is like it's August 17th. They play the dolphins. So that means it's another 22 days after that game until the starters will play. And it'll be the opener at Tampa. And, you know, we're talking about rookie quarterbacks. They may see more time in exhibition games. Maybe. Preseason games. Yeah. I don't know. I'd have to go back and look at what rookie quarterbacks end up doing. I would imagine you're probably right. Those that start the regular season as
Starting point is 00:38:00 starters probably get a little more work. I don't know. I'd have to go back and look like CJ Stroud and how much he played. But can we save the preseason playing time discussion for August? Let's do that. Okay. Okay, boss. Let's finish up the show with a little baseball talk, including an unbelievably near historic start for a Philadelphia Phillies pitcher. Real quickly, Tommy, before we get to some baseball, I came across this on CBSSports.com. I mean, this is the time of year where if you're an NFL writer, I mean, you are reaching deep for content, you know. But this is really crazy. And it's done by a guy who I actually really like, and I've had him on the show many times, Jordan Dejani, who writes for CBS Sports. He gave his week one score predictions today. Way too early, 2024 NFL week one picks. You know, he's got the games, the matchups, and the score predictions. You want a prediction on Washington, Tampa Bay on May 26th.
Starting point is 00:42:28 second, a game that'll be played on September 8th. Jordan Dejani, great dude, by the way, from CBS Sports gives it to you. Tampa Bay 26 to 23 over Washington in the season opener. Washington loses by three in the season opener. That'd be crushing. That sounds exciting. I can't wait. Yes.
Starting point is 00:42:53 He does have the Cowboys losing week one. on the road at Cleveland 20 to 14. He's got the Eagles and a cliffhanger in Brazil, 23 to 20 over the Packers. And he's got the Giants losing a close game to the Vikings 25 to 23. So there's your NFC East week one roundup. You know what? We don't even have to watch now. We don't even have to watch.
Starting point is 00:43:23 You know, it's funny. You want to defer talking about preseason minutes until all. but you're willing to give scores for week one here in May. Yes. Yes. Why not? All right. Last night in Major League Baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies, who right now are the best team in Major League Baseball, currently the Phillies are 35 and 14. They've got a 714 win percentage. They are easily the best team in baseball right now. now with the best run differential at plus 83.
Starting point is 00:44:02 And last night in their win over the Rangers, their 5 to 2 win over the Rangers. Ranger Suarez, the Phillies starting pitcher, won the game. He struck out 10 over 7 innings and improved to 9 and 0. That is the best start to a season with a sub 1.1.1. 0.50 ERA. His ERA right now is 1.36
Starting point is 00:44:33 since Juan Marischal did it with the Giants back in 1966. He's also the first Phillies pitcher since Robin Roberts to win at least nine consecutive starts. 9 and 0 for Suarez with a 1.36 ERA. I mean, you knew that they were a great offensive team,
Starting point is 00:44:57 but if they get that kind of pitching, forget it. Yeah. Yeah, because they already have two studs in Zach Wheeler and Aaron Noah. But you had a guy with that kind of capability as a third starter, and that lineup, yeah, the Phillies look pretty unbeatable at that point. I tell you what, as far as is not, he's no Patrick Corbyn. That's for sure. Patrick Corbyn last night for the national.
Starting point is 00:45:27 on his quest to be yet again the worst pitcher in all baseball gave up eight earned runs in six innings pitched at the nationals lost to the wins. I think it was 10 to 3. 10 nothing. 10 nothing. Yeah, they missed the Nats missed their field goal attempt. Yeah. But he had pitched well recently.
Starting point is 00:45:54 He had actually pitched well recently. He was... He hasn't pitched well. His ERA is 6.29. It is after last night, but he had lowered it. Like, I think his ERA for the last... You're about two or three starts ago. No.
Starting point is 00:46:11 I'm looking at it right now, because I did this the other day. I was talking about how he had really kind of turned it around. His three starts prior to last night, two earned runs, one earned run, three earned runs. And he went six innings, five innings, and five and two-thirds, and he wasn't shalacked. And I mean, that's all you can say about it, is that he wasn't shalacked in his last three starts.
Starting point is 00:46:37 But, yeah, he just, it's been rough. Why are they still putting him out there? I don't know. I don't know. I really, I can't tell you. I don't think he'll be there for long. Kate Cavali, one of their top pitching prospects, who's coming back from Tommy John's surgery,
Starting point is 00:46:59 just started his rehab assignment in the minor leagues. And as soon as they think he's ready and able, they'll be bringing him up, and that'll be goodbye to Patrick Corby. Yeah. Yep, he was outstanding in 2019, that's for sure. Big time moments in the post-season. They don't win the World Series without him.
Starting point is 00:47:24 No. He was the best left-handed starter in national. league that year. All right. Anything else from you today? I got nothing else for you, boss. Have a good time. Yeah, thanks for doing the back-to-back days.
Starting point is 00:47:38 And again, just a reminder, Cooley tomorrow and on Friday, with four film breakdowns of four of the team's draft choices. All right, what are you doing this weekend? Do you have anything planned? On Sunday, going up for a family picnic up in Philly, but that's it.
Starting point is 00:47:56 pretty much low-key besides that. All right. A family picnic. So where will you be picnicking? In a park? I'll be picnicking. No, at somebody's backyard outside. You know, I need a cookout.
Starting point is 00:48:10 You know, barbecue, whatever you want to call this thing, beer and food, and I'll be sitting in a corner with my don't talk to me. You got you. So social. All right. That's it. Back on, back tomorrow with Gully. Thanks, Tommy.
Starting point is 00:48:26 All right, boss.
