Starting point is 00:00:02 You don't want it. You don't need it. But you're going to get it anyway. The Kevin Sheehan Show. Here's Kevin. Sometimes it pays to show up to work a little bit late. Not my best advice, kids, by the way. Don't take that one to heart.
Starting point is 00:00:20 But for me, this evening, it actually paid off. I'll explain in a moment. The show's presenting sponsor, as always, Windon Nation, 8669. 90 Nation, if you need new windows, you can also go to windownation.com. So today was a super slow free agency day number two. And for our team, nothing was happening all day long. And I had a commitment after my radio show today that went a little bit long. And no Tommy today, he'll be back with me on Thursday.
Starting point is 00:00:57 And when I sat down to start the podcast, there was nothing in the way of Washington Day 2 free agency news. So I decided to wait a little bit. And it was easy to wait a little bit, full transparency. I watched Maryland, Oregon in the Big Ten tournament. The Terps beat the Ducks, 70 to 60 to advance to the next round in Chicago. They'll play Iowa tomorrow. at 12 noon. And I thought, you know, I'll watch this for a little bit.
Starting point is 00:01:32 Maybe something will happen and we'll have something to talk about other than, you know, kind of rehashing day one, which I did have some stuff on. But when that game ended literally within about a 45 minute to an hour period of time, the news broke that Washington had signed Leo Chenal, linebacker, Kansas City, and free agency. a pretty significant deal. And then the bombshell NFL report and now confirmed news that the Max Crosby trade to Baltimore
Starting point is 00:02:11 from the Raiders is dead. He didn't pass the physical in Baltimore. So yeah, it paid to wait a little bit today. I know you're getting it much later than usual. I apologize for that. But we've got some stuff. to talk about. Stephen Spector, my guy from Kansas City, is going to jump on with me in the next segment. This is going to be a pretty quick show. So we're going to motor through this one,
Starting point is 00:02:39 but he'll jump on with me. He's actually at the Big 12 tournament, I guess, in Kansas City, and he said he would jump on to the concourse level and talk to us about Leo Chanel from a Kansas City perspective. So we'll get to Stephen in the next segment, and then we'll talk in the final segment about a player that Washington was super close on today, but lost out on. And that's by my count now, at least four significant free agents that Washington was in on and did not land. But let's start real quickly with this Max Crosby story. The Raiders actually were the ones that came out and announced it. I have no idea who broke the story.
Starting point is 00:03:24 I think it was Schefter. but the Raiders made the announcement that the Ravens had backed out of their trade agreement for five-time Pro Bowl defensive and Max Crosby. They provided no further details as to why. But then the reports came out that Crosby had actually failed the Ravens physical, which the deal was contingent upon. Back in late December, Crosby was placed on injured reserve by the Raiders. if you recall, he didn't really want to be placed on injured reserve. He wanted to play, but the Raiders were really trying to protect him and the knee that was banged up. And he ended up having meniscus surgery, successful meniscus surgery in January.
Starting point is 00:04:07 And then this past weekend, the Ravens outbid the Cowboys in particular by offering two first round picks, their own pick in this year's draft number 14 overall, and their own pick in the 20. 2007 NFL draft. They're getting both of those picks back now. You do have to wonder just how both teams would have approached the first, you know, 30, 35 hours of free agency had this trade never happened because the Raiders went out and signed an edge rusher in Quitty Pay. The Ravens did not sign an edge rusher. They had a need for one. They thought they had their guy.
Starting point is 00:04:51 and Max Crosby, you know, is the medical that bad, or is it just bad enough that the Ravens were squeamish upon further review of giving up as much as they gave up? I thought it was a lot for Max Crosby. I think we talked about that on the show yesterday. You know, and now you wonder, what will the Raiders do? Like, if the medical wasn't, like, devastating, and we don't know the details of the medical so far. It's just that he didn't pass the physical, giving the Ravens an opportunity to back out of the deal. If the medical isn't so bad, is he still available? Would he be available now for less than the two first round picks? The Cowboys, remember, traded for Roshan Gary after they didn't get Max Crosby. They offered a little bit less, a first
Starting point is 00:05:43 and I think a Knight 2 pick to the Raiders, and the Raiders took the two first rounders. from Baltimore. I wonder if he's still on the market. I wonder how many teams would still be interested. Of course, there's at least one medical out there now for sure, but it'll be interesting to follow this story. I know trades have been voided in the past, and I'm sure I'm not thinking of a big, big trade that was voided in the past, but man, off the top of my head, I can't think of any trade like this one that got voided this quickly. It wouldn't have been official until tomorrow at 4 p.m., the beginning of the league calendar. But yeah, Max Crosby, for now, back to the Raiders and the two first round picks back to the Ravens.
Starting point is 00:06:38 So Washington's Free Agency Day was really slow. And then they added Leo Chanel. They also, as of the recording of this podcast, have not seen any of their own free agents sign elsewhere. Chris Paul, Debo, Samuel, Bobby Wagner, etc., still without a home officially. I'm wondering if, you know, some of those players were told by the team, go test the market. See if you can get what you think you, you know, deserve. And if it doesn't work out, we're still interested. I think Chris Paul, the team would certainly still be interested.
Starting point is 00:07:18 But with Chanel, you know, this is now Washington's fifth player signed since free agency began yesterday. Washington's been very active, despite what many of you have said. Many of you super, super, you know, anxious. Like to the point of, you know, 18 minutes into free agency, I had people tweeting me saying, this is a disaster. I mean, seriously. people. Is this your first free agency? Come on. I understand last year was a disaster. I do. And I understand recency bias and all of that. This is a process. It doesn't all happen in one day.
Starting point is 00:07:58 And Washington was as active as any team in the league yesterday in terms of dollars spent. They were number three in dollars spent behind the Raiders in Tennessee. And three significant big name free agents. Alec Pierce, Tyler Linderbaum, and Jalen Phillips, all were targets for Washington, as was Romeo Dobbs today, more on him coming up in the final segment of the show. So Washington's been plenty active. They've been swinging, and they landed yesterday with Oway. I think that's a big time signing. I mean, he was a consensus, you know, pretty much top 10 free agent across the board. I'm not talking about specific to edge defenders, edge rushers.
Starting point is 00:08:45 And today they add Chanel, who becomes the fifth player signed by Washington in free agency. Yesterday it was Roberts in the corner, O'Way, Tim Settle, and the re-signing of Marcus Mariotta. And today it's number 54 from the Chiefs the last four years. Linebacker Leo Chanel drafted in 2022 out of Wisconsin. He was an All-American in 2021. first team linebacker of the year in the Big Ten in 2021. He's got two rings with the Chiefs. He was a part of the Super Bowl team that beat the Eagles 38, 35, part of the Super Bowl team that beat the 49ers in overtime, 25 to 22, played big roles in both of those games. In the
Starting point is 00:09:28 Super Bowl against the Eagles, he had six tackles, a forced fumble, and a blocked extra point. I'm sorry, that one was in the 25 to 22 overtime win over the 49. against the Eagles. He had six tackles and a sack in their 38, 35 Super Bowl win over Philly. He blocked, if you remember in the 2024 season, the Chiefs, you know, eeked out all of these close games, and there was the game at Arrowhead where Denver had him dead to right, and Will Lutz had a field goal blocked at the gun, and it was a short field goal. I want to say it was like 34 yards.
Starting point is 00:10:09 And the guy that blocked it, Leo Chanel, who was named AFC Special Teams player of the week that week. He did get injured at the end of this year, but he's been a very durable player. But he got injured in week 15 of this past season, injured his shoulder, nothing super serious. He will be fine for Washington. So I've liked Chanel. You know, going into free agency, in terms of linebackers, we have. obviously talked about Devin Lloyd. We talked about Nikobe Dean. I actually really liked Nikobe Dean even more than Quay Walker and more, yes, than Devin Lloyd. Nikobe Dean was to me,
Starting point is 00:10:52 the guy that, you know, when he was healthy, was a dominant offball linebacker. And that would have been my preference. But I liked Channall. And when you've thought about Kansas City and watch Kansas City, and we've all seen a lot of Chiefs games over the last seven, eight years, and the defensive teams that they put out onto the field. I mean, their 23 defensive team was excellent, 24 as well. I mean, you always think about Chris Jones. You know, you think about Trent McDuffey, who's now gone. You know, you think about Karloftus, you know, in the last couple of years.
Starting point is 00:11:26 But the two guys who constantly showed up, you know, every time you watch the Chiefs, because there were a lot of games that were stand-alone Chiefs games. Nick Bolton, who had that touchdown in the Super Bowl win against the Eagles, and Leo Chanel. You know, big hitters, really good tacklers, impact linebackers. Chanel is super athletic. His Rast score, relative athletic score, which we know Adam Peters really values, just off the charts coming out in 2022. Here were some of the numbers.
Starting point is 00:12:04 Leo Chenal was drafted with pick 103 of round three in the 2022 draft class. He scored a 9.99 relative athletic score out of a possible 10. That ranked number three out of 2,410 linebackers evaluated via the RAS from 1987 through 2022. third most athletic linebacker ever tested. He ran a 45340. I mean, I can give you all the shuttle and the three cone, but the vertical was 40.5 inches. This guy is a freak athletically.
Starting point is 00:12:50 By the way, Bolton's also pretty athletic as well. Look, he's not Fred Warner. You know, he's not Zach Bond. he's not Roquan Smith, he's not Tremaine Edmonds. Of the linebackers that were talked about as top tier in this free agency class, Devin Lloyd, I think was number one. And then you had the group of Quay Walker and Nkobie Dean and Leo Chenal, a few others, Tremaine Edmins, you know, who became available, Zaire Franklin.
Starting point is 00:13:26 But the guy that I also liked, and I think I mentioned a few weeks ago, Caden Ellis from Atlanta. Bobby Wagner's, you know, on the list. Eric Wilson re-signed with Minnesota. We thought he was a possibility because of Durante Jones. But Chanel can play, man. He can play. He is an all-down linebacker.
Starting point is 00:13:46 You know, he's a guy that will line up in multiple spots, but he's definitely an off-ball inside linebacker. That probably frees up more opportunities for Louvue to play more on the outside. you know, I could see if Bobby Wagner doesn't come back, maybe a Jordan McGee, Leo Chanel inside. You knew that this was one of the needs. They've got so many of them on defense. And now, you know, you have added defensively, Oway, Chanel.
Starting point is 00:14:15 These are two starters so far that they have added. And certainly Robertson factors in is probably their nickel corner for sure. And Tim Settle may be their starting nose tackle. We'll see. I had John Kime on the radio show today. He doesn't know for sure, and I guess he's talked to a few people. I have not about settle and where he'll settle into. He wasn't sure that it would be nose tackle. And again, we don't even know what Durante Jones's defense is going to look like. We do know that if it's Brian Flores like, there's going to be a lot of dudes kind of lining up all over around the line of scrimmage. And that's Chanel. You know, when you watched him, he's lining up. They got him move. around Steve Spagnoulou's got them moving around in different spots with Bolton, et cetera. Yeah, I mean, so far, defense, defense, defense. You know, they tried offensively with Pierce. They tried offensively with Linderbaum.
Starting point is 00:15:15 I've got more thoughts on some of their swings and misses coming up. But they did land Leo Chanel today, and that is a good ad. and three years, $24.75 million, just over $8 million a year, that seems like a good deal for the team. I mean, Bobby Wagner made $9 million last year. I haven't seen the guaranteed dollars, but I think this feels like a solid deal for the team and definitely a starter defensively on this team for sure. I mean, he's been a starter in Kansas City on a very good defensive team. And, you know, the thing about Chenal, too, is until this year, totally available.
Starting point is 00:16:01 You know, this was a guy that played all 17 in every playoff game in 22, 23, and 24. And then played, you know, injured his shoulder late in the season, but played 14 of the 17 regular season games this year. Super athletic, coverage, eh. Tackler, grade A. Run stopper, Blitzer, pass rusher. They're starting to add some options here.
Starting point is 00:16:31 All right, let's find out what Steve Inspector thinks. He is a chief guy from Kansas City. We'll get to him after these words from a few of our sponsors. If you want to wager on college basketball during the month of March, my
Starting point is 00:18:31 recommendation is to do it at MyBooky. It starts with going to mybooky.com or mybooky.ag. And whether you're a first-time customer or a returning customer, when you make that deposit and it gives you an opportunity to type in something in the promo code section, type in, type in DC reload, DCR-E-L-A-D, you'll get a 50% cash bonus. A lot of you still don't know what that means, which is fine. I totally get it.
Starting point is 00:19:07 It's not a big deal to continue to explain it, but here it is. If you deposit, let's just say $300 into the account when you return to the account or when you're opening up the account for the first time. If you use that promo code, DC Reload, My Booky will take 50% of that deposit amount. So if it's $300, $150, and they will add $150 to your account. So your account balance will read $450. It'll be your money to wager with. You don't have to give the money back.
Starting point is 00:19:45 It's yours. It's a bonus for signing up with MyBooky as a listener to this. podcast. Now, you can't then withdraw the money and just take the bonus with you. It doesn't work that way. You've got to bet around that bonus many times. But if you're someone who bets, this isn't for somebody who doesn't bet unless you're thinking about doing it for the first time. And I would, you know, I would certainly tread lightly on that front. But if you're somebody that bets on sports, you know a 50% cash bonus this time of year is a pretty, you know, a pretty, good gig. It's a pretty good deal. You should take the free money from my bookie and then have a second
Starting point is 00:20:27 place if you've already got a first place. Maybe it's your third place. If you've got two places already, but take the free money. You should always, if you're doing this the correct way, have more than one shop where you are searching for the best point spread, the best total, the best money line, the best pricing. That's the right way to do it. It all adds up. It's all meaningful. My bookie. You're com, mybooky.ag, for all of your March college basketball betting needs, DC Reload is the promo code for a 50% cash bonus. All right. Joining me right now is my old friend Stephen Specter.
Starting point is 00:21:10 Stephen used to be a producer at 980 as a younger guy. 13, 14 years now is the program director out in Kansas. City for the leading sports talk radio station 965 FM. Stevens and on-air talent as well. And he's making time, not a lot of time, because I told him I'd keep him for just a short amount of time because he's at the Big 12 basketball tournament right now. But he has stepped up to the concourse level
Starting point is 00:21:42 and is going to share his thoughts on Leo Chenal signing with Washington. So let's start with that. What's Washington getting? and Leo Chenal. They got a three-down linebacker who does a lot of things, can also play special teams. He's a guy that Steve Bagnola
Starting point is 00:22:00 loved to use in a lot of different settings, whether it was rushing the passer and coverage, very good on first and second down against the run. They kind of got a jack-of-all-crate linebacker in Leo Channot. Fan-favorite linebacker. Why do you think that he didn't resign in Kansas City? Why didn't they fight to keep him? You know, I think after a 6 and 11 season, after 7th straight, you know,
Starting point is 00:22:26 AFC championships and Super Bowl appearances, I think the Chiefs are in the mold of turning over the roster and not continuing to keep the guys that are currently on it. And they're in a little bit of a cost-saving situation. And I know he didn't get a ton of money, but $8 million for a luxury linebacker is not where the Chiefs are at right now. I know they would have liked to have kept them. I know Steve Spagnola would have loved to have kept him as well. but this is probably just one of those situations where the chiefs are at as opposed to where the player is at. You know, Washington has flipped their two coordinators.
Starting point is 00:23:01 They've got a new offensive coordinator. David Blow, Cliff Kingsbury's gone. They hired Durante Jones from Brian Flores' staff in Minnesota to become the defensive coordinator. The base defense we expect will be a 3-4. what kind of linebacker is he's an inside linebacker and a three four correct he's probably an inside linebacker but you know steve spagnolo did a lot of multiple looks and one of the guys that he liked to do that with was chanall so a lot of times you would see him first second down kind of in the middle of the field next nick bolton in the in the chief four three but on third down he was
Starting point is 00:23:41 a guy that that spagnolla liked to blitz him off the edge or even up the a gap up the middle So I think you could say, again, I think he's a jack of all trades type of guy. And I think, you know, depending on how the new Washington defensive coordinator wants to use him, if he can do all those things. So first second down, good in the run. And in certain situations, I think he has shown the ability to pass rush, but it's not something that he has consistently done here in Kansas City over four years. He had a ridiculous, you know, a Rast score, the relative athletic score back in
Starting point is 00:24:17 2022. It was, you know, basically, it ranked like fourth out of 2,100 plus linebackers from 87 to 2022. Where did that athleticism sort of show up the most? Sticking his nose where the ball is. You know, it's funny, you know, everybody talks about his athleticism and he's truly a great athlete. I would say where it doesn't show up, just if you're watching the game, I'm not sure he's a great coverage linebacker, and I know that sounds like I'm talking out of both sides in my mouth. Here's this athletic freak. Should be able to cover the tight end, the running back.
Starting point is 00:24:55 I don't think that's his strength. I think his athletic strength is getting downhill, abusing, you know, some of the linemen on, as I talked about in that pass rush. But he's really a guy that sticks his nose in everywhere. So, yes, an athletic freak, but I don't look at him as like that sideline to sideline linebacker. that can go out and cover a tight end 30 yards down the field. That is not what I would consider it to be his strength, despite that athletic score. You said a fan favorite? What kind of guy was he in the locker room?
Starting point is 00:25:28 You know, he was a third-round pick out of Wisconsin, and he started slow, but he's a quiet guy, he's reserved. But again, when he sticks his nose into those piles, or he's driving a quarterback backer or pushing an offensive lineman into the backfield, those are the plays that got people really fired up here. Is there any game that jumps to mind when you think of Leo Chanel? You know, I'd love to tell you that there is, there's not, though. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:59 It's just a steady, he's just a steady winning football player. You know, they drafted him four years ago. They went to three Super Bowls with them. He's done a lot of different things. But it's not like there's this one, Ed Reed type play that sticks out and he's got some great YouTube highlight mixed tape. That's not who he is. Just a winning football player that you want on your football team.
Starting point is 00:26:23 Thanks for doing this. Although I should ask you real quickly, did you like the signing of the Super Bowl MVP at Running Back? Yeah, I think the price that they paid at the time they had to pay it, it was something they had to do. I don't think you ever want to be in the position where you're paying the most money to an off-season free agent running back, but given them a home's injury, given they were 6 and 11, Pacheco has flamed out, Kareem Hunt's at the end, they don't have any other running back on the roster,
Starting point is 00:26:54 the chiefs were put in a position where they have to pay Kenneth Walker. So like the player, you know, like the fit, but in terms of process, I wouldn't, you know, if I'm a GM, I'm never paying a free agent running back $15 million a year. but I think the Chief had to do that this off-season. Who's the quarterback going to be if Mahomes isn't ready to start the season? You know, we thought we would have that answer by this evening this morning, but we don't.
Starting point is 00:27:22 You know, Gardner Minchu was the backup here last year. A lot of people in Kansas City wanted Marcus Marriota, obviously. He's no longer available. I don't know who that free agent veteran is out there. It's not going to be Carson Went. It's not going to be Marit. It's not going to be Minchew. It's going to be someone a long.
Starting point is 00:27:38 those lines, the name, I just don't know who that is. Thanks for doing this. I appreciate it. I know you are at a big 12 tournament basketball game. Appreciate it. I'll talk to you soon. Thanks, Stephen. Sounds good, Kevin. Thank you. Anytime. Steven Spector, everybody. There is another big story that is going down as we speak. And hopefully I will have the final result when we come back after these words from a few of our sponsors. Three points for Bam out of bile. He will come out of the game and hear it from the crowd.
Starting point is 00:28:26 And we feel you at home. I said at the beginning of the show that sometimes it pays to be late to work, it's not the best advice, but man, did it pay off for me today? Waiting to do this podcast gave us Leo Chenal, Max Crosby's voided trade, and what you just heard. History tonight in Miami. Bam at a Bayou, 83 against the Wizards, the second most points ever in an NBA game. He passes Kobe Bryant's 81 set just over 20 years ago.
Starting point is 00:29:02 Of course, Wilts 100 in 1962 in Hershey, Pennsylvania is the number one, number one all time. And one of the greatest feats in the history of sports, Kobe's 81 has stood forever. Bam out of Bayou tonight in a 150 to 129 win over the Wizards. 83 points. 42 minutes he played, he was 20 of 43 from the field, 7 of 22 from behind the arc, 36 of 43 from the free throw line. By the way, nine rebounds, three assists,
Starting point is 00:29:38 two steals and two block shots, but 83 points. The most he had ever scored before tonight. 41 points. 83 against the tanking wizards. The wizards are tanking in style. That's for sure. Man, that Kobe 81 has stood, and it has stood for 20 years, two decades, and it really seemed like it would stand forever, even though the points keep going up and the individual performances seem to get more spectacular with every year. I don't think anybody had bam passing Kobe, but he did it against our wizards tonight.
Starting point is 00:30:19 An incredible feat that has the sports world buzzing right now. It literally became something that I was aware of during my conversation with Stephen Spectre. I looked at my phone and it was blowing up. Bam, bam, bam, are you watching this? Turn on the wizards right now. And then during the very end of my conversation with Stephen, I figured out what the hell was going on. And I'm glad we can include it on tonight's show.
Starting point is 00:30:50 Wow. You know, if you look at the list of the all-time single game marks in the top 27 of all-time. And by the way, tied for 24th, there are four players, which takes you to the top 27 with 65 points. Wilts Chamberlain of the top 27 individual scoring nights of all time, he's got 15 of them. He not only has number one with 100. He's got, well, now number four with 78. He also has 73 twice, 72 once, 70 once, 68 once, 67, Wilmchamberland scored four times. He scored 66 once, and he scored 65 three times. Wilt is, I know I've said this before,
Starting point is 00:31:50 he is the all-time outlier when it comes to team sport individual statistics. I mean, 50 and 25, he averaged. Insane, but what a night for Bam out of Bayou. Always loved the player. He's been a great player for now, I don't know, 10 years. Has he been in the league 10 years? I'm going to pull it up real quickly. 2017 draft. So, yeah, this would be his 10th season in the NBA, right? 10th season in the NBA?
Starting point is 00:32:24 And he's been obviously a very good player on really good teams, coached by Spolstra, teams that have overachieved a year and year out. He's averaging, if you're curious, 18.9 points per game. this year. And the best he's ever done prior to tonight was 41 back in 20, 21. 83 tonight against the Wizards in Miami. All right, just a couple of other football notes for our team. So Romeo Dobbs signed a deal in Green Bay, four years, 68 to 70 million, according to Schefter.
Starting point is 00:33:06 almost everybody had this today that Washington was definitely in play for Romeo Dobbs. But he heads to New England, and the story is that his preference was New England. I wouldn't, by the way, assume that his preference was New England because he preferred Drake May over Jaden Daniels. Remember this about Washington right now versus, say, in New England. Vrabel's not on any warm seat. Okay, he just got the Patriots to the Super Bowl. Dan Quinn is on a warm seat. Some might even say very warm.
Starting point is 00:33:46 And so that can be in play to a certain degree, not to mention a first-time offensive coordinator. You know, so Romeo Dobbs goes to New England. Juan Jennings is still out there. Washington still is going to do something, I think, with a wide receiver. I still believe that, even though many of them are off the board. Also, there was a report from Jeremy Fowler today
Starting point is 00:34:12 that Washington is still interested in the pass rusher market, even after signing O'Way yesterday. And one name that's come up often in league circles is Chason from New England, who is a free agent. I don't think Washington's done at pass rusher. definitely don't think they are done. And there's always the draft as well. I mean, if you ended up with Oway and say Bailey and then you've got Armstrong and you've got WISE, and now you've added a really good inside linebacker, you've added, you know, certainly a nickel corner.
Starting point is 00:34:52 You know, there's another piece or two that you got to add defensively. And offensively, Tyler Algier to Arizona and Rico Dowdell ended up signing somewhere. And I'm forgetting now. Rico Dowdell signed. So the two backs that I really liked in free agency end up signing elsewhere. But Dobbs to New England, Jennings still out there as of the recording of this podcast. I'm sure, you know, if I stuck around a little while longer, we probably have a lot of other big breaking news. But we're going to wrap it up here. I did want to say just this in thinking about yesterday. I thought the team was active and aggressive.
Starting point is 00:35:39 I did. And in sort of thinking about it, if I didn't say this yesterday, because I don't think I did, I was thinking about this after recording the show yesterday and before the radio show this morning, I'm actually glad they didn't sign Alec Pierce. I like Alec Pierce. I don't think he's worth that kind of money. I think he's a really good receiver. And it would have been a good ad.
Starting point is 00:36:02 don't get me wrong. But for that money, no. But, and this may be, you know, a minority opinion, I actually think that Tyler Linderbaum would have been a good signing even at that level for a center. 81 million guaranteed, 27 million a year, insane. The 81 million isn't exactly guaranteed, about 60 something of it is. But for all intents and purposes, I mean, the last part of that guarantee is a base salary for year three. I mean, he's going to play three seasons. Very rarely. I mean, we've never seen a deal for a center like that. But even for an offensive Wyman, that much of a deal being guaranteed was amazing. But I thought about it, and I was thinking, man, his kind of overall talent, productivity, stability, wisdom with a young quarterback Fernando Mendoza, more likely than not in Vegas,
Starting point is 00:36:57 but it really would have played well here. And I do think that as we are here at the very beginning of this off season, that the number one area that I think will be justifiably, you know, something that we can all criticize if it continues to play out the way it's playing out, is how they handled the center position. Letting Be Otis go with the idea that, If all else fails, we can go Allegretti. Well, if all else fails in the center market was red hot yesterday and they missed out on Linderbaum and they were very much in on Linderbom.
Starting point is 00:37:39 But if they miss out on everybody and you end up with Nick Allegretti as the starting center, that's not, that was the worst case for them. You know, that was the worst case for them. They clearly had an idea of trying to go after and sign Tyler Linderbaum. They did because they were very aggressive in going after him. And the Raiders just kept going up and up and up. And maybe Washington should have gone up and up and up too. Because at the end of the day, let's just say Washington was offering $24 million a year. And the Raiders got to $27 million a year.
Starting point is 00:38:19 Well, for another $9 million and, say, to top the Raiders, they had to go to $9.5 million in over three years. It may have been worth it. I know it would have been a lot of money for a center, but man, when you invest and you're investing in the trenches and you're investing in that quarterback, the protection of the quarterback, I think that that's the move yesterday
Starting point is 00:38:40 that if they had pulled off of the three that they didn't, that's the one I would have preferred that they would have pulled off. I don't think I said that yesterday. I think I said I like Linderbom. It's too bad that they didn't end up getting him, but the money was super hot. and probably too rich for them. And I didn't disagree with it yesterday.
Starting point is 00:39:01 I sort of disagree with it today. If we get to August and Nick Allegretti's the starting center, man, he better have the year of his life. Other than that, it's way too early on everything. And I actually kind of like what they're doing here so far. We've got a long way to go. Remember, maybe the biggest news of their own. off season could come when Brandon Ayuk is released.
Starting point is 00:39:30 All right, that's it for what turned out to be a pretty wild show. Sorry for getting it out so late. Many of you won't listen to it until tomorrow morning, but I will be back tomorrow. And we'll see what tomorrow brings on Free Agency Day 3.
