Eddie C is back for one final time this spring.
he'll have his Belmont Stakes, preview and picks later on in the show.
This from Denny to start the show.
Denny writes,
I'm getting sick and tired of wide receiver all the time talk.
Ayuk, Diggs, the latest on the Patriots receiver,
to the mindless back and forth between you and the fans on Terry McLorn.
It's just too much.
wide receivers are far off the what's important grid.
QB O-line running game defense.
That's the list.
We don't need any of the guys you incessantly talk about.
Don't you know, Kevin?
We have the 14th best receiver in the league, L.O.L.
That's a good one, Denny.
Denny finishes up by writing, Kevin,
I can't believe our fans are crushing you for saying Drake London over Terrible.
Any fan that wouldn't take Drake London over Terry doesn't know ball.
Thank you for that, Denny.
Denny mentioned the Patriots receiver thing.
I'm going to get to that in a few minutes.
It will require me to continue wide receiver talk all the time.
It will be on this show because there are some reports out there about a certain New England wide receiver that may be available.
and Washington may be interested.
So I will get to that here in a moment or two.
So, Denny, I get it.
I get what you're saying.
I am very capable of beating the same horse over and over again on a lot of topics.
I get that.
I'm certainly noting what you said.
But I'll also note that I'm just not that confident or thrilled about the wide receiver position.
you know, right now as it stands.
Now, I know that Adam Peters feels the same way because he tried to sign Alec Pierce.
He tried to sign Romeo Dobbs.
So they were active in the early portion of free agency trying to get two of the biggest
wide receiver names on the market, or one of the two.
And he did draft a receiver in the third round, Antonio Williams.
third straight year, they've drafted a receiver, Luke McCaffrey, year one, Jalen Lane, year two,
and that Antonio Williams here in year three.
I'm not, you know, confident about the wide receiver room right now.
And it's easy to say, we're okay there, don't you remember, 2024, but that's also part of the concern.
And here it goes, because I know I'm going to get some shit for this.
but part of it is that your best receiver, Terry, is turning 31 years old in early September.
And will he be what he was in 2024, two years after that season with a difficult and contentious contract negotiation and the toughest year of his career in between?
You know, is it possible that the team, one of the major reasons for not paying him anywhere near what he wanted is their analytics department said, hey, wide receivers a position that kind of turns overnight.
Once you get to your, you know, post-30, early 30s, mid-30 seasons, injury becomes a higher probability, production tails off.
And look, we saw injury last year and we saw production tail off.
Now, the production tailed off primarily because he only played in 10 games.
And the starting quarterback only played in four complete games.
But, you know, part of the, you know, concern is that it's easy to say, hey, they were really good in 2024.
With Terry McLorn, Noah Brown, Diami, Brown, Olamedi, Zakias, Jameson, Crowder, Zach Ertz, etc.
they'll be fine if they don't add anybody to the receiver room.
But that assumes that you're going to get the Terry McLaurin of 2024.
You know, let me just say this.
I will take the side that says that Terry's going to be good in 2026,
because I do have faith and confidence in his professionalism,
that he'll be in phenomenal shape.
he's going to be super hungry to bounce back off of, you know, what was the toughest year of his career.
But there's no guarantee that we're going to get the best of Terry at 31 years old.
And the rest of the group is, you know, basically a question mark.
I mean, it's a total question mark.
You know, we don't have a number two receiver that we know about.
We have guys that we've been counting on or hoping that we could count on,
but we haven't been able to, you know, see a real reason to count on those guys.
And I'm talking about, you know, obviously Luke McCaffrey, for starters.
You know, I think at this point, we would have hoped to have had more confidence in Luke McCaffrey.
Diami Brown has some chemistry with Jaden from a few years ago, but is he a true number two?
You know, Traylon Burks, they liked him last year, and he certainly has the size, and he's got the draft pedigree, but there's a reason he was on the street and available.
Jalen Lane is really a punt returner, first and foremost.
And Van Jefferson, you know, I said it when they signed him.
I've actually been kind of a Van Jefferson fan.
I think he plays bigger than he is, but they don't have anything that says, hey, we don't need anybody else.
they do need somebody else.
Certainly that's subject to change, but we've got to see it on the field,
and I bet you they need to see it on the field.
There's a reason they went after Alec Pierce.
There's a reason they went after Romeo Dobbs.
There's a reason they are interested in Brandon Ayuk.
I have no idea where they are on digs.
Now, the Patriots receiver story is that Kashan Bouty,
the receiver, one of the many receivers for the Patriots this year, who really did, you know, New England's receiver situation this year was really solid for Drake May.
Now, part of it is the Josh McDaniels scheme. I don't think there's any doubt about that. He's really good at getting receivers open, and the New England receivers were among the most open in the NFL all season long.
But with Romeo Dobbs signed by the Patriots, with A.J. Brown heading to New England in a trade,
there have been reports from Dan Graziano, ESPN.com, that Kayshan Booty could be on the market
and that teams like the Raiders and Washington might be interested. Also a Sports Illustrated
reporter essentially implied the same thing that Washington could be interested in a deal for
Kayshan Booty.
for those of you who don't watch the rest of the league,
many of you being Terry is elite, part of the Terry is elite crowd.
Kishon Booty is 5-11, 6 feet, 200 pounds, excellent route runner, a deep threat.
He had 33 catches, but six touchdowns this year.
The first year with Drake May, he had 43 catches, 589 yards that first year,
551 this past season.
He had a very good postseason.
He had that big time catch against Houston and that playoff win,
averaged over close to 19 yards per reception in the postseason.
Now, keep in mind, few catches for him, few catches for everybody.
The New England offense really tailed off at the end of the year.
Their defense carried them.
But they also played unbelievable defensive teams in the postseason,
and they weren't necessarily facing great.
defensive teams in the regular season.
Part of the 14 and 3 New England season was definitely, you know, an offense that was
humming for the first half, first three quarters of the season with an excellent coordinator,
you know, Stefan Diggs in uniform, Hunter Henry playing well, you know, booty and
DiMario Douglas and the big guy, the big white guy.
why am I blanking on his name?
Yeah, his name being Mac Hollins.
Douglas, Hollins, Diggs, Kyle Williams, the guy that I loved in last year's draft,
the receiver out of Washington State.
They were getting open, they were schemed open, and it made it very easy,
but they were playing some pretty bad defensive teams during the course of the year,
something that we talked a lot about heading into the postseason as far as the Patriots were concerned
because they had that daunting, you know, first opponent in the Chargers, excellent defensive team,
and then they had to face Houston, and then they had to face Denver, and then they had to face Seattle.
So they just weren't very good offensively against really good defensive teams.
By the way, not an indictment, not a criticism of Drake May.
I actually really liked Drake May.
I thought he was very impressive.
I thought he looked apart.
I would not take him over Jaden Daniels after two years.
I would not take him over Caleb Williams, I don't think, at this point, after two years.
But I think he's going to be very good.
I think we're going to look back on the 24 draft and say, wow, pretty much three, four guys were really good from the six that got picked.
But Booty would be an interesting addition.
he would immediately rise to the level of in the mix of guys that could be a clear cut number two.
He's on his rookie deal.
He's got one year left on his rookie deal at like $3.67 million.
And he would cost, I don't think, any more than like a fifth round pick.
I know you don't want to part with picks, especially next year's picks in a draft that is supposed to be so deep.
but could this, you know, be a fallback move in the event that they're getting cold feet on Brandon Ayuk?
And I say that not knowing anything, but just sort of off the week that was with the activity surrounding Iyuk.
I also had somebody on the radio show, Matt Mayoko, who's covered the 49ers forever and does it currently for NBC Sports Bay Area.
and he was clueless as to the situation with Ayuk right now,
as it appears everyone else is clueless as well,
including the team.
He didn't have any real predictions.
He did say that it's very obvious to everybody out there
that Ayuk wants to play in Washington.
Apparently, he recently scrubbed his social media,
everybody that he was following gone,
with the exception of Jaden Daniels and the Washington
commanders. So that's what he's interested in doing. But for all intents and purposes, you know,
Mayoko with me this morning on radio and I've heard some and read some other things as well,
there needs to be a real psychological reckoning with him. They're going to have to feel
comfortable that he is okay. You know, and it's possible that he may need some counseling
before anybody decides to even do a prove-it one-year deal with him.
We'll see.
That is the wild card right now.
Diggs is, I think, a lesser wild card.
I have a feeling Diggs isn't going to play here.
I wish that they would be interested in Diggs,
and Diggs would be interested in playing here.
My big thing with Diggs is, first of all, I take him for one year, definitely.
He is a flat-out gamer on game days,
and he would be a big help to this wide receiver room.
But I just wonder whether or not Stefan Diggs might have better opportunities.
And if he thinks that IUC's going to end up here,
why would he want to be here with Terry, with IUC,
where he is a number two or even a number three guy?
But man, the combination of a healthy and ready to roll, Terry McCorn and Stefan
Diggs, sign me up for that.
I know some of you don't want that.
I would definitely consider that to be a massive upgrade to the wide receiver room,
and I'd be in favor of it.
And at this point, given the IUC situation, I'm probably turning on IUC being the preference
to let's just do digs, get it wrapped up, and, you know, say goodbye to the Brandon IUC possibility.
It just may be too much right now.
And you don't know when you're going to get them.
You know, there are some reports out there that all he had to do was show up for OTAs,
and they probably would have cut him on the spot.
Maybe he'll do that for the beginning of training camp.
We'll see.
But the 49ers don't have to do anything until August 31st.
They don't owe him any money per his contract with them right now until September 1st if he's on the roster.
Now, maybe if he's on that reserve left squad list,
that he's on right now.
Maybe they don't have to pay him on September 1st,
but the situation is murky.
We're doing a lot of wide receiver talk here in the open.
Booty, by the way, if I didn't mention this,
he played at LSU and played one year with Jaden Daniels
and was productive that year.
Of course, they had Malik neighbors on that team.
They had Mason Taylor on that team.
There were a lot of options.
That was Jaden's first year in Baton Rouge.
that year started off slowly for Jaden,
but it was really later in the season.
The game against Alabama in Death Valley that LSU won in overtime
was kind of the springboard game for Jaden into his Heisman Trophy,
2023 season.
So yeah, there you go.
Denny, thanks for sparking more wide receiver talk,
even though your intention was.
to silence it. How about the big NFL story of today? It's not a trade. It's not a signing. It's not an
arrest. Although actually there was an arrest today. Jonathan Cooper, the very good linebacker in
Denver, got arrested on domestic violence charges. I think I said the other day about Brandon
Ayuk's misdemeanor traffic charge. My God, I mean, how could that be a disqualification?
qualifier when virtually every other week we get an arrest on domestic violence or something
very serious.
And of course, we didn't even have to wait for another week.
It happened today.
But that's not the big NFL story today.
The big NFL story is, and I'll read the headline from ESPN.com, bears edge closer to
Indiana move.
I'll read Courtney Cronin's story on ESPN.com.
The Bears took a significant step toward leaving Illinois on Friday.
The Bears Board of Directors voted to advance their stadium development in Hammond, Indiana,
with the exact site still to be determined.
This is the first time that the Bears board has voted on any stadium site.
If you've been following this story, the Bears have been trying to get something done in Illinois,
but it's not been favorable.
Indiana's offered up much more favorable solutions.
I do think that when people read this headline or if you're following the story,
some will perhaps think, oh my God, the bears are moving.
They're leaving Chicago.
Hammond, Indiana is essentially a southeastern suburb of Chicago.
It's 30 miles from downtown Chicago.
It's a 35-minute drive from downtown Chicago.
Now, if you live in some of the very pretty western and northwestern suburbs of Chicago,
maybe it's a 45 to 50 minute drive to the stadium.
This isn't exactly, you know, RFK to landover because we're only talking about five, six miles there.
This is more like 30 miles.
But this is far from, as an example, what 49ers fans have to do in the Bay Area.
If you live in San Francisco or if you live in San Francisco or if you live in,
Marin County, which is north of San Francisco.
It's an hour and a half to Santa Clara for game day.
I don't think anybody's got a longer commute from the downtown area to the stadium.
Am I missing one?
I don't know.
But the Chicago situation, they're not all of a sudden going to be called the Indiana Bears.
That's not going to happen.
So that was a big story, though, today.
in the NFL, because I do think that people in that market certainly would like to see,
just like we wanted it, you know, all the way back in 1997,
we would have preferred a stadium in D.C. as well,
and certainly after being in Landover, as long as the skins were,
we really want them back as well.
All right, let me get to my NBA game to preview and pick.
We'll do that right after these.

I said it best.
I don't think we have anything to be too worried about.
I mean, obviously, we feel like we're the better team.
Spurs guard Stefan Castle saying that he agrees with Vic is in Victor Wembeñama,
that the Spurs have nothing to worry about and that they have the better team.

So Stefan Castle says they've got the better team. I mean, he's not saying anything that, you know,
most players wouldn't say in that instance. I'm not getting on him for saying we're not worried.
We know we've got the better team. But I'll tell you what, man, I'm starting to wonder whether or not they have the better team.
If you've been listening to me talk about these NBA playoffs, I was convinced that Oklahoma City was going to win the title.
And I was certainly convinced that the winner of OKC San Antonio would breeze through the NBA finals against anybody who was there.
But man, these New York Knicks, this 12-game win streak in the postseason is record setting.
The 12-game win streak ties the most.
Golden State has a 12-game win streak in the postseason,
but the margin of victory by 272 points
is not only the most for a 12-game winning streak in the history of the postseason,
it's the most for any 12-game win streak.
Playoffs, regular season, doesn't matter.
This has been the most dominant 12-game winning streak in NBA history.
The Knicks have not lost
Now in 43 days, 43 days.
They are for the postseason now, they are 13 and 2, and their two losses, both of them, in the first round of the Atlanta Hawks,
by a point in each of those two games.
They're playing hopefully well, and they won game 1, 105 to 95.
By the way, the total in the game tonight at 2.17 and a half, I think I said it was, 217 and a half.
And game one was a little bit rough, and they only scored 200.
So that totals right where it was in game one.
I may have a thought on the total for tonight's game coming up here in a moment.
But I am really starting to wonder whether or not I was just dead wrong on OKC or San Antonio breezing through the NBA finals.
I think the Knicks are really good.
I really do.
I think they can win the NBA finals.
I think they can win their first NBA championship since 1973.
I'm surprised I feel that way, but I do feel that way.
And, you know, I pick the spurs in seven, but I don't feel great about that prediction right now.
You know, this reminds me that when San Antonio faced Minnesota in the Western Conference semifinals,
They lost game one against the T-Wolves, and I came in the next day and said, I think Minnesota's really good.
I think Minnesota can win this series.
I think they can beat the Spurs, and they lost four of the next five games.
And to be honest with you, the four wins, I don't think any of them were close.
But New York's much better offensively than Minnesota was.
I think Minnesota was a really good and super, super.
tough defensive team.
I had somebody, I forget who it was on radio the other day.
It may have been my guy Pauli from the 757.
And he said to me, the Knicks have been the best defensive team in the postseason.
I don't think that that's true.
I think the Knicks played very good defense in game one.
I think that the Thunder, the Spurs, the Timberwolves have been the best defensive teams
that I've watched, maybe even the Pistons to a certain degree.
The Knicks have been good on defense, and they were excellent on defense the other night.
But yeah, I definitely think they can win it.
Now, tonight, you know, it starts with this.
Wembeñama can't be Kevin Durant tonight.
I know he thinks he's Kevin Durant.
He can't play a game on the perimeter tonight.
I would be shocked if San Antonio doesn't come out right from the beginning and establish Wembenyama offensively somewhere from the free throw line towards the rim.
You know, on the block, at the elbows.
He's not going to be out, you know, on the perimeter trying to beat, you know, defenders off the dribble like he's Kevin Durant and pulling up and shooting threes and mid-ranges.
He ended up with six turnovers the other night.
And I talked about this the other day on yesterday's show with Tommy.
You know, he's not quite what he fancies himself to be when it comes to his ball handling skills and creativity as a guard.
He's, you know, unbelievable considering he's seven foot five.
We've never seen anything like it.
But that's not where he's going to dominate a game right now.
He has a chance to dominate the game from around the rim on both ends of the floor.
So I think it starts tonight with Wembenyama being a lot closer to the rim than he was for a big part of the game the other night.
And I think that will be a huge difference.
I think that's where he could end up with, you know, a 40-point night.
You know, on 14 of, you know, 19 or 14 of 20 from the floor, you know,
in another eight to nine free throws and then maybe a three or two in transition.
But I think it starts for San Antonio with what they do with their big man on offense.
There's no need for him to be turning the ball over six times in a game primarily as
their initiating ball handler. You shouldn't do that again.
I think the other interesting thing is going to be who does Victor Wembenyama guard on defense?
Are they going to have him on Carl Anthony Towns again that actually looked a little bit like a mismatch in game one?
I mean, Carl Anthony Towns is quick and has the ability to go by Victor Wembenyama.
I'll tell you this, if he's going to guard Carl Anthony Towns again, he can't get that close to him.
At the same time, Carl Anthony Towns can shoot it.
So you can't be too far away either.
You know, there was a lot of thought that Wembe Nama would actually guard Josh Hart in the opener
because Josh Hart's the one guy that really is not a very good shooter.
So he could sluff off Hart, he could play the paint, he could be the rim protector,
and look, he may be the greatest rim protector we've ever seen.
He is that good defensively.
Right now, Victor Wembeñama defensively is already.
one of the best we've ever seen.
It's offensively that is very sort of fits and starts, inconsistent.
You know, we've seen him dominant, and we know what he has the capability of doing.
But like the other night, I mean, it was sloppy.
It was not a pretty performance offensively from him.
It wasn't a great defensive performance.
I think that was a mistake to have him on Carl Anthony Towns.
I wonder if he'll end up guarding Josh Hart tonight.
I think the other thing to look for is Jalen Brunson, because the truth is he finished well, but he didn't start well.
You know, the Knicks were down seven at the break, and I felt like they shouldn't have been down seven,
that they just, they had the shots, they had the looks, they didn't make them.
Is it possible that the Knicks one game won by 10 points, and there is a much better game coming
from them tonight. I think it is possible. Now, I think we'll get a better game from San Antonio
as well. Look, Darren Fox has to play at that level that he can play out. The level he played at,
quite frankly, in game seven against Oklahoma City, he was three for 13. Vassell was four of
11. We know that Wembe was six of 21. Kelton Johnson only made one shot in the game off the bench.
he, you know, was a three, he had three points.
They need more scoring from some of the guys that are capable of doing it for them.
I do like the spurs tonight.
Part of it is the point spread, I'll just tell you,
because I do see a matchup that isn't easy for San Antonio.
You know, a lot of times when somebody steals game one, you know, they feel like,
hey, we got this split.
And by the way, Monday night in the garden is going to be insane.
7,500 is the get-in price Monday night for the rafters at Madison Square Garden.
But, you know, if the Knicks are really this, you know,
43-day 12 wins in a row juggernaut that can't be stopped,
I don't see them, you know, being thrilled with winning game one and that being it.
Yeah.
Now, they have not in these playoffs started a series on the road.
You know, they haven't had that opportunity.
They've had the home court advantage in the first three series,
so you want in game two to make sure that you win game two.
And they lost game two in that first series to Atlanta.
That was C.J. McCollum's a really, really good game in that series.
But let's see if they come out and act like it's zero-zero,
or act like they're down one because they're capable of winning again tonight.
But the line tells me that San Antonio, a six and a half point favorite when they were a four and a half point favorite in game one,
that's not eight.
It's not totally atypical.
You'll get a bump up when the home team loses game one because they know there's a desperation for the home team.
And I think you'll see that out of the spurs.
So I like them tonight.
I like them to cover.
This is not a smell test situation, by the way.
But I do kind of feel like the Spurs will get it done and win by, you know, more than six and a half to even up the series at a game apiece.
And it would not shock me if Wembe has one of those nights.
And, you know, the ever-changing nature of a seven-game series.
You know, game one, wow, the Knicks.
Wow, Carl Anthony Towns.
Ooh, Wemby didn't have a great game.
And then tonight, it's Wembe with 42 and 19 rebounds and four block shots.
And Carl Anthony Towns has a bad game.
It's not going to surprise me.
It's the nature of a seven-game series.
And especially when the road team steals game one.
But, man, I do think the Knicks now can win this series.
I really do think that they are.
Really good. We'll see if, you know, that ends up being a bad prediction like it was with Minnesota after they won game one against the spurs.
Wembe on the block, Wembe at the elbow and below tonight. That's got to be something that's an absolute given.
If you see him handling the ball and trying to put it between his legs out on the perimeter and shooting threes and driving for pull-ups, that's just stupid.
this point. This guy should be able to get 35 a night from the block. He's got, he can't,
he can't be blocked. He can dunk and finger roll and drop it in over almost anybody.
That's got to be the plan for the Spurs tonight. All right. That NHL Stanley Cup finals game last
night, I did not watch the whole thing. I watched from about the eight minute mark in the third period on.
through the overtime.
Thrilling.
I mean, a Stanley Cup
overtime game is thrilling.
The first two games
of the Stanley Cup finals
have been awesome.
Man, Carolina needed that one,
didn't they?
They were down to nothing.
Came back and ended up taking
the lead and then that late goal
and regulation to force
the OT.
I'll tell you what, man,
nobody better than Sean McDonough
on hockey.
I don't know.
Hockey guys, I just think.
all of them are really good, but Sean McDonough is great at basically everything he does.
All right, Eddie C.
We'll finish up the show with some Belmont Steaks picks next after these words from a few of our sponsors.
All right, back and better than ever, and by popular demand is our guy, Eddie C, to preview and pick the third race of the Triple Crown.
tomorrow's Belmont Stakes.
How did you do with your picks on the show a few weeks back for the Preakness?
Well, my top pick, I thought it was turning for home.
It was sitting on the hip of the leader.
That was Napoleon Solo.
And ran a great race.
I thought it was going to pass them, and it just kind of flattened out and finished
second.
So far, my top picks for the Derby and the,
Preakness, I've finished second at good prices because he was 9 to 1.
Right.
So, you know, I had a savor exact.
Just like, you know, with these big races, I spread a little bit like I normally don't do.
But, you know, we came out of it with, you know, we came out of the race okay financially.
And your boy Lowe's told me that he was screaming and scaring his family yelling,
Eddie C, Eddie C.
He texted me something on that day.
I can't remember what it was.
But there are several people in our area, in the DMV,
that are waiting to hear what you say about this race.
So give me, first of all, kind of the big storylines heading into it.
I know that the Derby winner, Golden Tempo,
is at least going to be a part of this one, unlike the Preakness.
Yeah, you've got,
You basically, we got a really good field for this, even though there's nine horses running, and five of them ran in the derby.
It's the first time I want to say in, I forget how many years, but it's like a lot of years that no horse that ran into Preakness is coming back to run into Belmont.
That's crazy.
I just noticed that.
Yeah.
That's nuts.
It's too quick of a turnaround, right?
Is that where we are now?
I think because of how the horses, they're bred differently, they're handled differently from a
training perspective that I do believe we're going to eventually get to, you know, the first
Saturday in May, the first Saturday in June and the first, I mean, and the first Saturday in July,
and they can incorporate it around the Memorial Day weekend and the July 4th weekend.
and I think that would probably
spreading it out four weeks at minimum
in between races, you'd get bigger fields and more quality fields,
and I think we're moving in that direction.
This is, what, the third year at Saratoga
before it heads back to Elmont
and the new Belmont Stakes Park
or whatever the place is going to be called?
Yes, it is.
It's been three great years.
I mean, I'm here right now, boots on the ground,
Yeah. You're familiar. You're a little bit familiar with Saratoga from what I've been told.
You know, I've just been coming up for 30 years. Yeah, a little bit.
Yeah.
But, no, it's been great. Saratoga's done a great job. The only negative I would ever say is, you know, you're paying $8 for a bottle of Desani water.
Yeah.
But that's, whenever you go to any event, you know, they price gouge you.
a little bit, but the staff has been
great, the racing's been great, the weather's
been great, even though, unfortunately,
it looks like it's going to
rain tomorrow.
It's not supposed to be a torrential
downpour, but we're going to get some rain
throughout the day tomorrow,
which will make the race a little
more interesting.
Well, tell us about the race. How do you see it
being run, and then let's get
to your picks?
Well,
if you remember in the Derby,
I picked Chief Wallaby as my top choice, and Chief Wallaby is running today.
I was actually at the Belmont draw party on Monday, and I was sitting with Bill Mott,
the trainer, and he got the number three post, which is a perfect post for him, and he's been
training great. I've been out of the track in the mornings, watching workouts and the horses gallop around.
So I got to stick with my gut from the derby.
I'm picking Chief Wallaby on top.
I think there's not that much speed in the race, and he's going to be forwardly placed.
The main speed in the race is the two-horse called Power Shift.
And the only other speed that I think could maybe you could get the five-horse Oatino
that could go to the front or the six-horse growth equity.
That might be there.
but Chief Wollaby is going to be sitting right in front.
And then the other main contenders, they're deep closers.
And I don't know that they're going to close.
They're good horses.
But, you know, I don't know that they get there for this race here at Saratoga.
So I'm playing Chief Wollaby on top, who right now is morning line, the second choice at three to one.
And then Renegade is the favorite.
two to one.
And Renegade is definitely the horse to beat.
He had a horrific trip.
I don't know if you remember the Derby.
He had post position 1, which is a terrible post for the Derby.
He got shuffled around, banged around a lot at the beginning, and then came flying
home and got nosed out for the victory by Golden Tempo.
So, but I'm using Chief Wallaby on top, and I'm going to play Renegade.
And this other horse commandment, which is a...
is a really good horse. He went into the derby as one of the favorites, and he got a bad trip
as well, which, you know, when you're racing against 18, 20 horses, that happens. And then the
other horse that I liked, which I also liked in the derby is the eight horse emerging market.
He actually, and I'll try to explain it quickly, he threw his shoe, so he lost his bar shoe during
the race, and that really compromised him. He got tired late, and I think he still finished
six or seven
I forget exactly
but I'm going to use him as well
so
but here's what I'm doing
Chief Wallyby
will be my win bet
and I'm going to do
a key
on key him on top
and then exacta
with the four renegade
the seven commandment
and the eight emerging market
and I may kick myself in the butt
because Golden Tempo
yeah
who I
really liked, you know.
You really like Golden Tempo, you know, as a 23 to 1, 24 to 1 shot, whatever the horse was,
you know, on the podcast before the Derby, you said, keep an eye on Golden Tempo.
They could make a late run and they could steal the thing.
So why don't you like Golden Tempo after the layoff in the Belmont?
It's not that I don't like them.
it's in seeing how the tracks run so far this week and um historically at this track when there's
not a lot of speed closers struggle to get there where in the derby there was a ton of speed and i
really i mean i i don't want to say i knew but i i have strong feelings that golden tempo is going to be
flying late which he obviously did i just don't
think that that style of his racing is going to get him to the winner circle. I think he could come
second, third, or fourth. I just don't think he can win. How are the betters treating Golden
tempo just out of curiosity? I mean, when you've got, you know, a winner of one of the first two legs,
especially when it was unexpected, doesn't it become a popular horse? Right now I see basically
9 to 2, 4 to 1, somewhere in that neighborhood.
Would this horse without the derby and the action that comes with it, would it be a 10 or a 12-to-1 shot?
It would be, yeah, it'd be probably somewhere around there, but I can tell you from being
here in the mornings, there's, you know, and again, I might kick myself for not putting him
on top, but there's a lot of buzz about them.
I actually interviewed Sheree DeVoe, who's the trainer of Wharton Tempo, and she says he's acting exactly like he did going into the derby.
Again, I just think there's a difference in the tracks, and it's a smaller field, and the reason I'm picking Chief Wallaby on top is I think he's going to get the first jump on turning for home.
he's going to get to the lead and it's catch me if you can.
And I'm hoping this time he gets a clean trip because he got banged up in the derby as well.
So I think if he gets a clean trip, I think he's the winner.
Chief Wallaby, the three horse.
You also like the four horse, the seven horse, and the eight horse.
And you might be kicking yourself for not including the nine horse golden tempo in the mix of your wagers.
I'm going to use the nine in trifectives, but I'm only going to use him in second or third.
I'm not using them on top.
And if anybody wants to potentially look for a price horse, it would be the six, in my opinion, growth equity.
I talked with Chad Brown.
He wasn't necessarily going to run him in this race, and Chad actually has three horses in this race.
but he ran
the six horse
in the Peter Pan race
which is
it's kind of like a
prelude to the Belmont
and it
won the race
and it won the race
that easily
and he goes
that told me that
he thinks he could get the distance
so that's your price force
right now I think he's 12 to 1
thank you for doing this again
this year
this triple crown season
everybody enjoys it. Good luck tomorrow and I'll talk to you soon.
Appreciate you, Kevin. I appreciate all my boys there in the Kensington DMV area.
Eddie C., everybody. You can follow everything he does. He and his group at pastthewire.com.
That's P-A-S-T-the-Wire.com. All right, done for the day, back on Monday.
