You don't want it.
You don't need it.
But you're going to get it anyway.
The Kevin Cheyenne Show.
Here's Kevin.
That got it started.
The caps rolled last night to a 4-to-1 win over Montreal
to win a series for the first time in seven years.
Tommy's here.
I'm here.
The show's presenting sponsor.
As always, is Windonation 86690 Nation, Windonation.com.
if you need new windows.
So you were there last night?
Yes.
Yes, I was there.
And it was an interesting scene, particularly at the end of the game,
the fans were very pumped up.
It was very loud in there as, you know, the clock ran down.
Yep.
Because it wasn't just that they hadn't won a series since 2018.
they haven't clinched a series at home since 2015.
I know.
When that thing popped up on the screen, I'm like, that's crazy.
I know.
That whole 2018 run.
All the clenching games were away.
Columbus, Pittsburgh, Tampa, and Vegas.
Yeah, all on the road.
Because the Tampa thing was a game seven on the road, right?
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So they had, this was the first.
time, cast fans had a chance to have that post-series celebration.
You know, the players on the ice shaking hands, you know, hugging each other.
Yeah.
And just basking in the glow of a series win.
So it was a pretty cool moment at Capitol 1 last night.
The team they beat at home in 2015, in a seventh and deciding game,
the Islanders, two to one.
You know, it's interesting when they were going through the handshake line.
I don't think I've ever been at a hockey game deciding, series deciding,
a victory where I got to witness that handshake thing live.
I mean, I've been at a lot of Caps playoff games over the years,
but I've never been at one in which it was a series clincher.
Actually, that's not true.
We were at, but you know what?
I left before the end when they played Pittsburgh that year,
and they got absolutely torched.
It was five to nothing early in the second period.
Oh, yeah, I remember that.
Yeah, that was the second, I think that was the second playoff season of the OV era.
And it was an abs, yeah, and so I didn't wait until the end.
I took off.
Well, it's no fun watching the other.
team celebrate.
I know, but it's actually such a cool tradition, sports tradition.
Yes, it is.
And sometimes, you know, it's interesting just to watch the losing team go through that
line.
Like, I was watching Ovechkin to see how, you know, he would react to Marty San Luis, the coach,
because they played against each other, you know, and I, and there was a real warm embrace.
I don't know what was said, but it really is like,
it's such an interesting tradition,
and it's probably unique.
Is there anything like this in sports and team sports?
I don't think so.
Am I?
I think in T-ball, they still do it.
Yeah.
In T-ball, they still do it.
But, no, it is very cool.
And it goes with the whole, I mean, the Stanley Cup playoffs have a
different vibe for if for no other reason that they're called something other than just a
playoff. And there's a special trophy called the Stanley Cup.
You like the special trophy thing. You always focus on that.
Well, the NHL, all their trophies are named after somebody.
Right.
You know, their MVP trophies, their top scoring trophies is named after Rocket Richard.
So, yeah, I like that the NHL.
you know, hangs on to its traditions when it can.
And you mentioned Ovi.
I've always kind of liked the fact that Ovi has really tremendous respect
for the history of the game it looks like.
I mean, and for people who have played it,
and for opponents he's gone up against.
Yeah.
He's got tremendous respect for the game, and he shows that.
I mean, the guy is freaking incredible.
I mean, you know, another.
goal and what is that four for the postseason, right? He's got four. He had four in the series.
Yes, and that changed the first period because the first period was not going their way.
No. The first seven or eight minutes was dominated by Montreal. As by the way was much of the
third period. And there were some incredible saves by Logan Thompson, who was big in this series,
really big. Yeah. But the caps had an opportunity. An injury.
Yeah, coming back from that injury.
But the Caps had opportunities when they were up to nothing to make it like three or four nothing.
Like Connor McMichael had that two-on-zero breakaway and he couldn't score.
They had a bunch of opportunities to.
Look, they were the better team, and I don't know anything about hockey.
But after those first two games, we talked about it, and I said,
they just appear to be bigger and just more physical.
And Montreal is small and inexperienced.
I know that everybody thinks that, you know, cold call,
and Suzuki and Slavovsky, their top line that it's going to be held to deal with for the
rest of the league in years to come.
But the caps did, Tommy, what they absolutely had to do.
They could not in this particular season go out in the first round when they were a pretty hefty
favorite to win in the first round because all of the conversations about playoff,
failures would have come right back to the forefront, and 2018 would be looking even further
away in the rear view.
You know, it's interesting that in his post-game press conference, the coach Spencer Carberry,
tapped into a rich tradition of losing in this town when he came up where he said it was important
to get over the hump.
Let's not forget hump.
First thing I thought of was hump was Davy Martinez bringing the camels to Nat spring
training back in 2018 to try to illustrate how they were going to get over the hump.
That was all that Nats talked about was getting over the hump.
And you know, you're right.
It's kind of a sad state of affairs that for the capitals,
getting out of the first round
had suddenly had all of a sudden
become a hump for them.
You know, but you're right.
The
the conversation
of 2018,
Stanley Cup would have been much further in the rearview
mirror and
the conversations of
being playoff chokers
would have been resurrected even more.
You know, I would
say that they need,
to go at least a step further and be in the conference finals, but they're an underdog in this
next series. Carolina opens up. Oh yeah. Carolina's really good. Yeah, they open up as a minus 150
favorite in this series, even though the caps have home ice advantage. You know, somebody asked me
about the playoff format for the NHL. Why are the caps basically playing, you know, the second
best team in the east in the second round?
They're not, actually.
The second best team in the east is Toronto.
The third best team got eliminated last night.
Tampa Bay did.
Florida moved on past Tampa in five games.
That was, by the way, for Florida people, a pretty intense series, apparently.
Like, hockey's now, there's not a lot that's big in Florida other than college football,
but apparently, because my father, you know, is down there, and he's actually really
into hockey and he said, man, this Tampa Florida series down here is a big deal. All right. Well,
the Florida, I think they're the defending Stanley Cup champion. They got by Tampa in five.
But what I was going to say is the seating in the playoffs is not a perfect one through eight.
The way they do it is they've tried to, you know, this format, which I don't know is five or six years old,
something like that. I don't even know if I'm right on that. But basically they try.
tried to create some of those old divisional rivalries in the postseason.
Like years ago, like the Patrick Division, you had to get out of the Patrick Division
to get to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Well, it's, I can already see you rolling your eyes.
It's the top three in each division.
Then the next two best records are wild cards.
And then they get assigned to each division winner.
So it's actually a seating of one through four in each.
division. That's the way it works. Why would you go down this road? Because I didn't know the 50
chance you're getting something wrong. Because I didn't know the answer. Somebody tweeted me and I didn't
know the answer and I thought that is interesting because they actually suggested that Washington
was playing the second best team in the second round. That's not correct. So at least I was able
to look it up and not come on the air and say, well, they're playing the second best team. That's not
fair. It's not true. But it's, but it is possible that they could play the second best team in this
round because the second best team could have been in their division. But it's not. Anyway,
that's the way they do it. It's basically a one through four with the fourth team being a
wild card, which may be from the division or may not be. In this case, this year it wasn't. It was
Montreal. But now they'll play a division team in this round. There you go. I hope that helps.
They play Carolina.
Thank you, Dr. Puck.
And Carolina is good, according to everybody that knows hockey,
and they are a favorite over the caps.
So back to the central question, do they need to move beyond this next round?
I say I want them to move past the round.
It's good for the show.
It's good to have a local team playing something of note this time of year.
But I think because they're an underdog, they wouldn't get wrong.
ripped for exiting too early if they lose?
Yeah, I don't think, yeah, I'd be exactly right.
I think people recognize that Carolina, besides being a favorite, is a very strong opponent.
And if they go out with their tail between their legs, they could take a beating.
But if it's a competitive series and the caps come up on the wrong end, I don't think people
are going to say, well, you know, the same old caps.
I don't think that would be the story then.
Yeah, I don't either. You know, what they are getting, though, right now is really good
goaltending, and that's, I mean, even I know that that's important in this sport, and Logan Thompson
was outstanding again last night. You know, I think that guy Anderson is the Carolina goalie,
and I think he's supposed to be pretty good based on what I was reading this morning. But we got the
great eight, Tommy. And he... That's right.
He's got four goals in the postseason picking up where he left off in five games.
Pretty amazing.
You know what the grade A likes to do?
He likes to create traffic in front of the net.
Well, his goal last night was one of those really cool goals where it's like a set play off the face-off.
And like he is, I'm sure people who love the sport are sitting there going, look, that's, you know,
they're two dozen guys that can.
can do that. But there's something about him off that face-off where he just rifles it in one,
you know, motion that is pretty damn impressive. And that was... There's that two dozen 39-year-olds who
can do it. That's true. That is true. Yeah. So, anyway, good, good win for the cats. It was a great night.
Yeah, good. Yeah, a great night at the arena. Yep, the handshake line was nice. And, you know,
they got back for 2010.
They exacted revenge for the 2010, shocker.
I don't know if there's any getting back from 2010.
Yeah.
So, all right.
When does the series, do we know when the series starts?
Monday night is game one at Capital One Arena.
Okay.
So plenty of rest.
Plenty of time.
They string this thing out, don't they?
Well, there had to be a game seven.
You know, if this went seven games, game seven I think would have been maybe stunned.
I know, but both teams have advanced already.
I remember there was a time in the NBA and in the NHL playoffs where when you advanced,
if the other team advanced and was waiting for you, you started that series two nights later or two days later.
But now everything is so scheduled by round.
You know, and in the West, I think every series is still going on.
I think all four series in the West, I think they were two-two going into the last game five.
Now they're all three-two.
So there's going to be more likely than not.
There will be a game seven somewhere in the first round.
I think, yeah, I'm looking at up right now.
All four Western Conference playoff series are three-two.
And so you've got game six is there, and you've got one.
one game six in the east, Toronto has a three-two lead over Ottawa, and they play Florida
the winner. Toronto was the top seed in the other division in the east. And they're the team,
Tommy, that hasn't won a cup since like 67 or something like that, right? And in a place like
Toronto where hockey has, you know, it's in the blood of Toronto of Toronto and
Canadians. Yeah, that would be very important. Getting back to the Caps, one last thing.
You could make the case that even though, look, even though the Caps seem to be a better team,
I think the series was pretty competitive. I thought Montreal gave them all they could handle.
And you could make the case that that hit, that Tom Wilson delivered in game four changed the series.
No doubt. I mean, I don't know if it changed the series, but they were.
potentially on the way to losing that game, which would have even the series of two games
apiece, and we'd still be talking about a series that's in play. And that hit led to the game
time goal in the third period. And that certainly changed that game. And I guess by extension,
change this series. Yes. Yeah. And, you know, there... Even though the cast were better,
they're like, you know, Spencer Carberry and, as said, they keep talking about the fine,
thin line between winning and losing.
And you could argue that Tom Wilson hit was the thin line.
He had a goal last night, too.
Yes, he had a goal last night.
He had the goal that made it 3-0.
Yeah.
And, you know, there was a lot of discussion as to whether or not that was a legal hit.
I think people were surprised that he wasn't, you know, given a penalty for it.
But hockey people, lots of hockey people said, no, that's a good hit.
If he had been penalized, it would have been because he's Tom Wilson.
So anyway.
Okay.
Good cap discussion.
And we'll, you know, we'll talk about the series.
Well, you won't be back on until Tuesday.
So we'll know the game one result on Tuesday.
You know what?
And I'll be at game one.
For my friends who are true diehard Caps fans, which I am not, I'm happy for them because this has been a joyous season, a memorable season because of Ovechkin, a surprising season because of the team's success.
And it would have been really crushing had they not gotten by Montreal.
Like I kept thinking last night, I wasn't rooting for this, trust me, but the dream of the dream of the dream of, the dream of,
if they had lost last night to just, there's something about that team in this town.
Once things kind of tighten up, maybe the players, because there are a lot of new players
and the coach is new, they don't feel it.
But I'll tell you what, the owner would have felt it and the fans would have felt, uh-oh,
if they had lost at home last night, potentially looking at a game six loss, which would lead
to a game seven in which people would walk into that arena needing,
oxygen to breathe.
You're right.
And you know who doesn't know that yet?
Spencer Carberry.
No.
Because he said at one point during a press conference,
I don't know if anyone knows this,
but this was the first series that we won since 2018.
I don't think it's, you know, nobody knows this.
Are you kidding me?
That's funny.
They sat in school in the DMV.
That's funny.
Playoff failure.
That's, that's, that's what Caps fans live with.
with. They don't, anyone
knows. That was funny. But it
shows what a newbie he still is.
Yeah. I mean, when newbies come into
town, and this happens in every town,
whichever team, and they say
things that are just so obvious,
you can't knock them for it.
They just got here. They don't know.
I mean, I think, you know,
remember, you know, your good friend
Brian Lafamina, who got
hired to be the team president, and
he actually had the gall
to say, we've got tickets
available. And we're like, we immediately said, oh, no, that's not what you say. You can't say that.
Poor guy. Thank God he rented, right?
Yes. All right. Let's talk some football because some power rankings post-draft have come out.
And Washington, getting a lot of preseason love. We'll get to that more after these words.

So, Tommy, we have post-draft power rankings
that have come out.
Now, I think I mentioned this on Monday, and that is Washington's over under for wins dropped in a lot of spots to nine and a half. It was 10 and a half almost everywhere before the draft. It actually dropped to nine and a half in a couple of spots after the draft. I think part of that is that Philly was perceived to have had a great draft. I mean, who really knows.
drafted a lot more players, and Washington only drafted five players. And I think there was a
consensus from draft people and maybe odds makers that they didn't get a position that they
desperately needed, you know, an edge rusher, you know, a defensive end. But, you know, that number
dropped a little bit. You know, their odds to win the division, mybooky.com, mybooky.orgie.orgie
at G right now has Philly is a minus 160 favorite to win the division in Washington at plus
212.
The odds were a little bit closer between the two teams before the draft.
So, you know, for what it's worth, I mean, over under numbers, nine and a half is still a, you
know, is still the highest number Washington's had since 2000.
10 and a half is what they were back in 2000, after the Dion Sanders, Bruce Smith, you know,
Mark Carrier, Jeff George, offseason.
The last couple years, they've been six and six and a half.
Yeah, this is the, without question and much debate,
this is the highest expectation in terms of wins heading into a season in 25 years for this franchise.
It didn't happen this way after 2012 because of the injury to RG3.
Wasn't this after 2015?
Wasn't this after 2005?
any of the decent seasons that they had,
it was not followed up with super high expectations by odds makers anyway.
So anyway, the power rankings, which aren't odds, they are just opinions,
they actually treat Washington incredibly well.
So CBS Sports put theirs out yesterday.
Philly's number one, Kansas City's number two, Buffalo's three, Detroit's four, Baltimore's five, and Washington is six.
So that would put them as the third NFC team behind Philly and Detroit.
That was per CBS Sports.
USA Today put out their post-draft power rankings.
Phillies one, Baltimore's two, and then this is interesting because I actually agree on this team.
I don't know if they're the third best team in the league, but I think the Rams have been overlooked a little bit here in the offseason.
They come in at three in the USA Today post-draft power rankings, followed by Kansas City, Buffalo, and then Washington.
Washington's ahead of Detroit in these power rankings.
So highest expectations, win total in 25 years, even though the win total dropped a little bit.
And they'll enter this season about as highly thought of in these power rankings that we've seen since power rankings became a thing,
which was probably in the last 10 or 15 years.
I think I just want to consider right now, and we've got a long way to go.
but consider nine and a half to be a reasonable over-under number and one that will stick
between now and the beginning of the season.
If you are forced to bet it over or under right now, which direction would you go?
Is this a trick question?
No, it's not.
I'm just, it's a feel for what you think of this team, you know, heading into next year.
You know, there's, there is this thought of a sophomore slump for Jaden Dan.
I don't know. I never buy into that. I think I would go with the over, slightly over,
because I think there should be some concern about a much tougher schedule they're going to face this year than they did this past year,
and certainly different caliber quarterbacks that they'll face than they have in the past.
So I understand there could be some sort of reason for step back, but I would bet the over.
You'd bet the over.
Yeah.
Okay.
I think I'd bet the over, I think I would bet the over too.
And I'd bet the over because I just think that when you have the quarterback,
and by the way, I think one year made me a big-time believer in Cliff Kingsbury,
I just think offensively they're going to be really good again.
They're going to be at times unstoppable again.
I don't know why they would regress.
You know, I don't want to hear about mean regression.
I mean, you guys just don't know what you're talking about.
It's not applicable to sports and independent events.
I hear all these analytics people always talking about, you know, and other people,
regression to the mean.
You know, like, okay, it's every season, every week is a new entity, and it's an independent event.
But anyway, you know, what I've heard a lot of people say is they had all of these close
calls, all of these
walk-off wins, and that's
not sustainable.
Why not?
When you have the quarterback
that you have, it's absolutely
sustainable. I'm not saying that
it will happen.
And he has the ball in his hands last.
Yeah, but there's absolutely no mathematical
answer. There's no statistical
probability answer for, oh, it won't
happen because it
already happened, and it's got to regress to
sort of average. No, that's not true. I feel really good about Washington and close games with
Jaden Daniels despite how many close games they had last year. Now, what is problematic for them,
potentially, and it's really tough to play the schedule game because you just don't know. It's not
who you play, it's when you play them. But if the teams that are on their 2025 schedule look like
they did in 2024, and we know that not all of them will. They just won't. It's just going to be
much tougher. I mean, you've got to face Mahomes. I could see them taking a step back because
of the quality of teams they're playing this time around. Yeah, we're talking about, you know,
offensive teams, you know, led by Mahomes and Justin Herbert. And we don't know what Miami will
look like with Tua. But, you know, Minnesota last.
year, they're going to be a different team, but they were at times unstoppable.
You know, let's not forget, they won 14 regular season games.
You got Philly twice.
You've got, you know, Detroit with that offense.
You've got, you know, you've got a Denver team that, you know, was really impressive last year.
There's just, there's a lot here that if you get the teams on your schedule this year,
similar to the way they played last year,
it's going to be more difficult.
You know, last year,
they, you know, after Joe Burrow in week three,
you know, they got Lamar in, you know, in Baltimore.
And then it was, you know, Carolina and Caleb
and the Giants and their quarterbacks
and the Steelers issues with theirs
and the Cowboys issues with their quarterbacks
because DAC wasn't, you know, playing.
The Titans didn't have a quarterback.
The Saints didn't have a quarterback.
The Falcons started a rookie quarterback.
Like there was a lot of, you know...
Didn't Cooper Rush beat the commanders twice?
Yes.
No, they beat them once.
Remember Marcus Mariotto led them to victory in that season finale on that final.
That's right. Okay.
Yeah.
So that would be the reason you might be concerned about winning 12 again,
but I still think that 10 is more likely than 9.
10 or more to me is more likely than 9 or less.
I would agree.
And so I would go over.
Now, I think Washington will get a lot of love,
public love going into this year.
You know, people, you know, essentially, you know,
bet on recency bias with recency bias.
but yeah, I think there's, we don't know a lot, but we do know one thing more than we've ever known heading into a season.
And that is they've got a really good quarterback and they should be really good offensively if they're healthy.
Yeah, I mean, like I said, I mean, I had the same issues with their draft that a lot of people had.
and that was the lack of dipping their toe into getting a pass rusher.
But they seem to have made a concerted effort to help their quarterback.
And I think that's going to pay off for them.
Yeah.
Yesterday I mentioned a couple of players, Zadarius Smith,
and then I also mentioned Nick Chubb,
who's out there, and the Browns drafted two running backs in the draft.
And somebody sent me a link to a workout video for Nick Cheb, where he looked like Superman in a workout in which, you know, he's coming off another injury.
He's had just lots of injuries here in recent years.
Yeah.
But I'm telling you, that guy, when he is healthy, is a borderline elite running back.
And so I would certainly look into Nick Chubb's availability because I don't think Cleveland's going to resign him.
free agent. I ended up getting a lot from from you guys in terms of Chicago's interest in Nick
Chubb and, you know, teams that are in contention. See, this is where you, you know, you can now
compete for that veteran player that might be a piece that you're looking for and they're looking
for. They're looking for an opportunity to be, you know, a lead back, but on a winning team.
You know, we haven't had that before.
We got guys even later in their careers and usually guys that weren't nearly as good or talented as Nick Chubb.
So, yes, I'd be all for it.
You know, the health is everything with him.
But, yeah, I'd be all for it.
Chicago had D'Andre Swift, and they didn't really add, I don't think they did, to their backfield.
But apparently they are, you know, a frontrunner to land Chubb after Cleveland drafted to
running backs in the draft. They drafted two quarterbacks and they drafted two running backs.
Cleveland had a strange draft. They traded, they decided not to take Travis Hunter and then they
ended up taking Dylan Gabriel and Shedur Sanders and they took Quinchan Judkins, the running back
from Ohio State and Dylan Samson, the running back from Tennessee, both who were kind of higher
up on the running back list.
All right. Anything else on football?
Well, I got something related to football, not the actual game, but the stadium talk.
I don't know if you're tired of that.
I'm not tired of that. I had Joe Maloney on yesterday. He was excellent. We can talk about that.
I also want to mention something about one of the teams in our division.
We'll do that and more right after these words from a few of our sponsors.
Hey, guys, how about that decision you have to make sometimes?
you're out with friends at night and that decision typically comes down to this. Am I going to have
a really fun night or am I going to have a better next day? Well, let me tell you, there's a sure
fire way to wake up feeling fresh after a night of drinks with friends. It's a product called
pre-alcohol. Zbiotics makes it the pre-alcohol probiotic drink is the world's first genetically
engineered probiotic. It was invented by pre-alcohols, probiotic. It was invented by
PhD scientists to tackle rough mornings after drinking.
Here's how it works.
When you drink, alcohol gets converted into a toxic byproduct in the gut.
It's a buildup of this byproduct, not dehydration.
That's to blame for rough days after drinking.
Well, the product pre-alcohol produces an enzyme to break this by-product down.
So just remember to make pre-alcohol your first drink of the night and then drink.
responsibly and you'll feel your best tomorrow.
With summer approaching before you head out on a nice summer evening, think about pre-alcohol.

All right, Tommy, tell us about Shelly's.
Oh, Shelly's back room at 1331 S-3 Northwest in the district. It's where it's happening.
I was there Tuesday night for a book party.
You know John Allen, the NBC political reporter.
I think you met him at my Cigars and Curr Falls event.
Okay, yep.
He's maybe the top political.
Oh, yeah.
I know him.
Yes.
Yeah, him and his partner, Amy Parns, have a New York Times bestseller
about the 20-24 campaign called,
fight and they had a book party at Shelly's
Tuesday night and I was there.
Met a lot of nice people.
And it's kind of a precursor for the big event
that's coming up on Monday, May 19th.
The D.C. Grays Cigars and Curve Falls Fundraiser.
You know, I always get a kick out of when I go to Shelley's
as I walk by the hallway to the bar.
There is the framed DC-Graised
Jersey that was
signed by all the
members of the 2019
Nationals World Series
Championship team and the owner
Bob Matarazzi bought it
at an auction last year
and then hung it in Shelly's.
So D.C. Grace
have a present in
Shelly's year-round, but we have a big presents
coming up on
Monday, May 19.
Tickets will be on sale soon
on the D.C. Gray's website.
And then you'll see for yourself.
You come then, then you'll see for yourself how great a place showy's is.
How great the food is there.
How great the cigars are.
How great the people are at Shelly's Backroom.
I mean, I keep saying great.
That's only because everybody I said there comes back saying,
this place was great.
Yeah.
Okay?
That's true.
You can do that as well.
Yes.
Absolutely.
You can find out more at shelley's backroom.com.
All right. A couple of things real quickly. Number one, for those that had issues yesterday and maybe even the day before on Apple with the podcast, it was out of our control. Apple was having issues with podcasts. But I just wanted to remind everybody that if for whatever reason the show doesn't post in a timely manner on Apple, you can just go to the Kevin Sheehan Show.com. And it's right there. The show is up there. You can all.
also get the show on Spotify and there are lots of other places to get this show. But Apple had some
issues the last few days with getting podcasts up in a timely manner. We were done pretty early yesterday
and we didn't get it up. Apple didn't get it up on their platform until last night. So just
wanted to mention that. And if you have a quick moment to rate us and review us on Apple or
Spotify, that's helpful for us. Five stars. You can
rate us up to and give us a quick one to two sentence review and then follow us on
Apple and Spotify as well.
So there are a couple of things that I wanted to do here to finish up the show.
And there's one thing about this stadium I wanted to talk about it.
Okay, we'll start with the stadium stuff. Go ahead.
Well, it occurred to me when I was at the Capital One Arena last night, how if things,
how Josh Harrison company would have probably been very happy.
if Ted Leonez had decided to go ahead and stay in Northern Virginia with his plan.
Right.
How that could have really positively impacted the move for the football stadium here.
I mean, can you imagine if it was a done deal that the cats and the Wizards were leaving town,
and then you had the football stadium now come up?
I think it would be a difficult fight for the opposition for the football stadium
in light of losing the caps and the wizards to put up that fight.
Okay.
I think, I think, you know, it's funny because if Ted had stuck his guns,
I think that'd be a good thing for the commanders and the football team.
I think they'd be in a much stronger position.
Starting with that the city wouldn't have shelled out, you know, a half billion dollars.
$500 billion.
Yeah.
It would be.
There would be a lot more money.
Yeah.
But you know what, Tommy?
Part of me thinks that we get wrapped up into other things, but the biggest thing by far,
and the thing that has, you know, that people think about and talk about more than anything else is the football team.
I know that a lot of Wizards and Caps fans and a lot of D.C. residents, including me, would have been upset had those teams left.
But you know what?
We wouldn't have lost a lot of sleep over it.
And anybody out there would have traded if you could only have one.
Caps Wizards Stang or Washington's football team returning,
it would have been overwhelmingly 90-10.
No, goodbye, Wizards, Caps.
Enjoy Potomac Yards.
We got our football team back at RFK.
But I understand what you're saying.
It would have been...
You're probably right.
They would have been, you know, hailed even more,
and it would have been maybe a better deal that they would have gotten from the city
because the city would have had theoretically more to spend.
Yeah.
That's the only thing that occurred to be last night when it was at the arena.
Yeah.
So I saw this yesterday morning, and I just wrote it down.
I think I talked about it on radio yesterday.
Abdul Carter, who was the number one pick for the Giants at number three overall.
great player.
I think he'll be a really good NFL pass rusher.
I don't think he's, you know, Miles Garrett.
I don't think he's T.J. Watt, but he's going to be a really good player, I think, for sure.
So he wanted number 56, you know, and to his credit, like, you know, he asked for it.
He didn't demand it or anything like that.
But he wanted to wear Lawrence Taylor's jersey as a New York giant.
And he ended up having a conversation with Lawrence Taylor.
And Lawrence Taylor politely said, no, you go out and make your own mark with your own jersey number.
You know, and I wish you the right answer.
100%.
But Joe Thysman never had a chance to give that answer because Dan jammed it down.
Joe's throat and put him in a really bad position.
And we're talking about, you know, when Dwayne Haskins wanted number seven and Dan
wanted number seven for Haskins, and he, you know, he went public with, well, it's up to Joe.
No, it isn't.
It's up to you.
Okay?
It's up to you.
And look, L.T. was nice to talk to him.
The Giants could have just said, yeah, that's not going to happen, you know.
But LT.
That's the way.
That's what should have happened.
But, I mean,
I don't blame the kid.
He's a kid.
He's a kid.
What?
L.T.
He doesn't give a shit what anyone thinks of him.
No, he doesn't.
Because, you know why?
He's L.T.
No, Judge.
Yeah.
I mean, Joe wouldn't care.
Whatever position that Jai has put him in.
I mean, L.T. wouldn't care.
You know, he was going to speak up, you know.
Joe's far more diplomatic and has the, you know, will always protect the team.
I don't think Joe was happy about it, though.
No, I don't think you should have been.
Yeah.
Again, the right answer to that is you make your number special, a new number, a new legacy for this organization.
Yeah.
Abdul Carter said very nice things about Lawrence Taylor, and Lawrence Taylor said very nice things about Abdul Carter.
You know, he's, like we said, sometimes you arrive in town and you're new and you just don't know.
You know, we talked about that in the opening segment.
Still the best defensive and that defensive player we've ever seen, right?
He's the best football player I've ever seen.
In my lifetime of watching football, never come off this, although I guess I could.
Maybe Jaden Daniels will be the answer for me in five or six years.
But in my lifetime of watching the NFL, which is not as long as your lifetime of watching the NFL,
Lawrence Taylor is the greatest player of my lifetime.
watching. Player, not defensive player, player, period.
Like Bellichick.
But he is generally acknowledged as the greatest defensive player, I think.
Yes, I think he is. I mean, you know, it's like that thing that, you know, during that top 100 all time and Belichick was part of it and somebody came up and it wasn't LT and then LT came up and they were comparing and he said, wait a minute here.
We're talking about LT now.
We're talking about LT here.
That's Lawrence Taylor we're talking about.
Anybody who watched knows.
If you didn't watch, you might not have a perspective, that perspective.
And Abdul Carter wasn't alive when Lawrence Taylor was wreaking havoc on the NFL.
But 56 for the New York Giants.
And man, as fans of the Redskins, we know we saw it up close.
twice a year and three times a year in 1986.
That's as good as it gets.
He changed the game.
He completely changed the game defensively.
And he was hyped up on something apparently in a lot of those games,
but it doesn't change the performance.
The performance was dominant.
By the way, speaking of Bill Belichick,
how about this whole CBS Sunday morning thing?
We didn't talk about this the other day, where the girlfriend was weighing in on the interview
and stopped the interview at one point when the guy asked Bill about, you know, how they met.
First of all, can I ask you a question?
She's 24, apparently.
Have you, have you, I just started to kind of take notice of this relationship.
I was not paying attention, like maybe some of you have been.
I knew he was dating an extremely young woman.
She does not look 24.
I'm not saying she looks 44, but she looks older than 24.
She looks great.
I'm not saying that she doesn't look great, but she does not look like a 24-year-old girl.
But anyway.
She looks older, man.
Yeah.
So.
You know, what's funny about this, what's funny about this?
Oh, you go ahead.
No, go ahead.
Go ahead.
Well, I mean, you know, they got upset because CBS Sunday morning basically, you know, show the clip.
where, you know, the guy asking the questions, say,
where did you guys, how did you guys meet?
And off camera, she declares,
we're not answer that.
Yeah.
We're not asking that.
We're not doing that or whatever she said.
And CBS came out with a state,
and then the Belichick came out with a statement.
Yeah.
Saying that, you know, that the network basically sandbagged them,
that there was some kind of agreement.
And then CBS came back,
see there was no such agreement.
Yeah, here's that part.
The statement from CBS says,
when we agreed to speak with Mr. Belichick,
it was for a wide-ranging interview.
There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation.
This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher.
By the way, he's doing this because he's got a book coming out.
This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after
it was completed.
Belichick said, I guess yesterday,
quote, the final eight-minute segment does not reflect the productive 35-minute conversation, which we had,
which covered a wide range of topics related to my career. Instead, it presents selectively edited
clips and stills from just a few minutes of the interview to suggest a false narrative that Jordan,
that's his girlfriend, was attempting to control the conversation, which is simply not true.
Okay, whatever. A couple of things. One.
number one is this.
I heard people saying CBS should have stopped the interview right there and said,
that's not what we agreed to.
That would have been stupid because her interrupting was great content and generated a ton of attention for this interview.
Secondly, I mean, what's he doing?
I mean, I shouldn't say what's he doing.
Can you imagine being the father of this 24-year-old girl?
Now, there's a lot of stuff out there about her being, you know, in elite level escort, and that's how they met.
And he calls her, you know, his creative muse.
But, God, I just can't imagine.
I have three boys.
If I had a 24-year-old daughter, she walked into the house with her new boyfriend, Bill Pellecheck.
Now, that would be different than if it was just a random 73-year-old, I guess.
That would be a little bit different.
Yeah, but God, that's crazy.
24.
There are plenty of hot 40-year-olds.
It's funny because we're seeing Bill is whipped.
He's whipped.
He appears to be maybe.
That's what this is.
Because, look, Bill Belichick never cared what the media said about anything.
Never.
Ever.
Never.
And it was beneath him to even consider it that he paid attention to it.
And then for him to issue a statement, a lengthy statement on this thing, that shows he's whipped.
Apparently, she's been involved in a lot of stuff down at North Carolina with him and on the field for things and in meetings and, whoof.
You know, it's only going to get better. It's totally going to get better.
You know, as the season goes on, North Carolina is going to get a lot of attention.
Yeah, that's for sure.
They open up on Labor Day night.
They're the highlighted Labor Day night game against TCU.
Well, I think they wanted to do a hard knocks.
Yeah.
But I think hard knocks bowed out if I'm getting this reporting right
because she wanted to be an executive producer.
Oh, my God.
I would have said yes.
I would have absolutely said yes.
I mean, that would be, you'd still have gold material to you.
news. Yeah, it'll be interesting. You know, one totally unrelated thing to Belichick, this time last year,
you know, Nick Saban and Bill Belichick were entering the media arena. Sabin was much better than
Belichick as a media personality, much better. Now Belichick opened up a lot. He was okay,
but Sabin had a much better sense of humor. I thought he was a much better communication.
Cater. And Belichick, everybody that knows him and has talked about him outside of a press conference
says that he's incredibly bright and engaging and is funny and has a sense of humor. We didn't get a lot of that.
We got a lot of that from Sabin, though. I thought Nick Sabin was great last year. And I thought
Belichick was just okay. Like some of those appearances on the Manning cast on Monday nights got really
tedious when he was on.
You know, I
always said that because Bill
Belichick got his players to listen
to him like he did.
I always said that he can't
be that guy that we see publicly.
He's got to be a different kind
of guy to lead men
like he does.
But I've watched a lot of clips
over the past year of
Julian Edelman
and other
expatriate players.
he's not much different.
I think he's pretty much the same guy
that we saw for the most part.
And I think the ex-patri players,
I think they're enjoying this.
I think they think it's hilarious.
Yeah.
All right.
Give me two minutes just to real quickly
talk about the Lakers going out in five games
to Minnesota,
and J.J. Reddick, in his first year,
not winning more than one playoff game and bowing out as a favorite, by the way, in this series
over Minnesota. I thought it was pretty clear early on in this series. Minnesota was the better team.
But JJ Reddick, Tommy, yesterday, before the game was doing, you know, I guess the pre-presser,
or maybe it was from the day before. And he was asked about the game before in which he did not
sub in the second half. He played five players. That was it in the second half of game four.
and they just kind of wore down and they lost the game.
And he ended up getting up and walking out of it when somebody asked,
do you lean on your assistant coaches?
And he said, you know, are you suggesting that I need to do that because I'm inexperienced?
And he goes, well, of course I lean on.
And then he just got up and walked out.
I mean, look, JJ Reddick, I actually liked him as an analyst and as a media personality,
although there's no doubt he comes off so often, is smug.
and a total know it all.
He's not able to sort of be, I don't think, a great listener at times.
But, man, there are a lot of people, I think, that are not unhappy that he's out.
You can count me, look, given it to the Lakers period, count me in as one of them here.
But particularly this guy.
This is the guy who would go on ESPN and call.
the players of the past plumbers.
Yeah.
You know?
So I have no use for this asshole.
Right.
There's no doubt.
He's got some a hole in him.
No doubt.
And he did a Duke, you know, as a player and he did as an NBA player.
Yeah.
I think he's really smart talking about basketball.
That would be my opinion with respect to the actual literal content.
And I bet he's going to be a good coach.
I would not put this series loss on him.
When they made this trade, everybody said the same thing.
Well, who do they have that's going to guard anybody?
And what big player do they have that's going to protect the rim?
And the answer is they essentially had a chair for a defender in Luca Donchich.
And LeBron at 40 is no longer the defender he used to be.
And the size they had, he decided not to play.
last night in Jackson Hayes. And because of it, Rudy Gobert had the greatest game of his career,
27 points, 24 rebounds, on 12 of 15 from the floor. I mean, most of them were dunks. And the Lakers are
out. And Minnesota's really good. Very good team. I mean, Anthony Edwards is a legit star.
Julius Randall played great. But I wonder, the last thought in this is, I've said this
about Donchich for a year plus now. I think he'd be painful to play with. He is the epitome of
ISO basketball, which I hate more than anything else. You hate all the threes. I hate one on one
with four people standing around watching basketball, and I just don't think you can win four out of
seven four straight series playing that way. He almost did it last year. He almost did it. But playing that way,
I think drives LeBron nuts.
And I wonder if he'll look to move on or retire.
It'll be interesting to see how he handles this offseason.
But the Lakers, you know, I'm sure one guy that's really thrilled with them going out early
is Nico Harrison in Dallas.
Yes.
God, can you imagine if Luca made another deep run to the finals, how bad he would look?
That story would be repeated on every NBA broadcast.
It would be.
All right.
You got anything else?
I got nothing for you, boss.
All right.
Have a good weekend.
I'll be back tomorrow.
