You don't want it.
You don't need it, but you're going to get it anyway.
The Kevin Cheon Show.
Here's Kevin.
Spread it out on third down.
Daniels pulls the trigger, looking for the deep ball down the sideline.
And it's hauled in.
Diami Brown.
Great snag for the first down.
Pretty good throw on third and six from Jaden Daniels to Diami Brown,
as called by Iron Eagle on the Jets pre-season.
He's in Football Network yesterday.
I'm sure you know by now that play was a play that Jaden checked to at the line of scrimmage.
And Dan Quinn's answer to whether or not he was supposed to do it or perhaps better put,
allowed to do it was a great answer.
You will hear that coming up in a moment.

mention my name for a free, no obligation in home estimate. It is Sunday evening, August 11th,
and I am back from vacation. You know, usually when I get back from vacation, I am legitimately
thrilled to be back, because I'm typically one of those people that after three or four days of
vacation, I'm itching to get back and get back into a routine. But I have to say, my first ever
trip to Ireland last week was one of the best trips I've ever taken. I'm happy to be back,
but that was one trip that could have lasted even longer. You know, when you get back from a vacation
to a place that you've never been, you either get asked or you ask yourself, you know, would I go back?
For me, the answer is 100% yes. I loved that trip, and I will share more of my trip. I will share more of my
trip with all of you when Tom is on this show next. I'm not going to do that today because today's show is
not going to be long. It's kind of a postgame show to yesterday's preseason open or a game that
if you care ended in defeat 20 to 17 to the Jets on a late Austin Seabert field goal. Keep in mind, Austin
Seabert is one of two kickers with the Jets. Zerline, Greg Zerline being the other, Seabert would be one of those
veteran kickers, who knows August 27th, cutdown date, if Washington has an issue at kicker,
he could be a guy.
Zerline, remember, Zerline was the guy that on Christmas Eve made the 54-yard field goal
with five seconds to go to give the Jets a very important 30 to 28 win over Washington,
which put them in position to draft Jays.
Daniels at number two overall.
If that kick doesn't go through, Washington picks fourth and misses out on Daniels and
Drake May, if May was in your top three with Caleb Williams.
He wasn't in mine.
I liked Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels, and Michael Pennix, Jr.
Love Pennix Jr. more than May.
But, you know, we're not going to know the answer on all of that for a couple of years anyway.
But Zerline gave us that Christmas gift last year with that big boot, which elevated Washington into the number two overall spot.
Yesterday it was Austin Seabert, though.
They kicked the game winner with 20 seconds to go, if anybody cares.
And I say that because Jamie cares.
Jamie tweeted, I'm not making this up, by the way, I swear to you.
after a brutal joint practice yesterday was a difficult loss.
They played well enough to win.
They played well enough to win, which was the good news,
but I would have really loved to have seen the Adam Peters, Dan, Quinn, Jaden Daniels era start with a win.
Oh, Jamie.
Come on, dude.
The Peters Quinn Daniels era did not start yesterday.
That was a preseason game, dude.
Most of you know this.
I don't even know why I bring this up.
The Jets in yesterday's game sat almost all of their starters.
28 players in total did not play for them.
Washington sat far fewer.
Eleven players didn't play, but they played.
Washington did many, many more starters in the game for a longer period of time than the Jets did.
But none of it matters.
is these teams don't care about wins and losses in the preseason.
If they did, then their best players would play in them and play a lot.
They don't, and they haven't for years.
It's made preseason NFL football among the most unwatchable things in pro sports.
It is legit, awful.
You know, we'll be down to just two of these over the next two years, maybe.
It might take two years, and we'll be down to two of them
when the regular season moves to 18 games, which I think it will.
But the Peters Quinn Daniels era starts on September 8th in Tampa Bay.
I can't believe I had to say that.
But I will concede this, that yesterday, for us anyway, you know,
the opportunity to see in particular Jaden Daniels in uniform made the first few minutes of the game.
Interesting.
There's really not much to evaluate because, again, the jet.
were playing their twos and threes primarily in the first half against Washington's offense,
which included several starters or projected starters.
Nobody game plans for these games.
So it's really more about, you know, the individual one-on-one matchups, the operation,
did it look smooth in the case of Daniels?
You know, did he keep the trains on time?
Was the play called and was the line of scrimmage reached with the team lined up in the
timing that Cliff Kingsbury wanted?
The answer would appear to be yes.
Was he poised?
Did he look confident?
I mean, if you watched him like I did last year every single game, he always looks that way, playing quarterback.
If this was your first time watching Jaden Daniels other than maybe highlights, this is the way he plays.
He plays in a very kind of with a very cool demeanor, a very confident and poised demeanor.
It's not casual.
It's not lazy.
It's not, you know, without urgency.
It's just the way he comes off in his expressions and kind of the way he moves.
He's super cool, you know, and rarely, rarely, if ever rattled.
You just didn't see that at the college level, at the college level.
The throat of Brown was great.
The catch was excellent, too.
And the best part of that play was that he checked out of a bubble screen on
third and six to, you know, five verts, five verticals, you know, five whiteouts, because they
were in a five wide out formation, all goes, you know, down the field. The play call as a bubble screen
was called in part because the team didn't have a lot of their offensive linemen healthy. There
was no Brandon Coleman, no Andrew Wiley, others were missing as well. And the plan for him was
really a few handoffs and a few quick game throws, including that screen, to ensure that he got
his feet wet in the game, definitely, but wasn't at risk of getting hit at all. The five-man
protection on that play against four rushing held up well, and he threw a dime to Brown for 42
yards. I thought last year at LSU, and I talked about this all offseason, I thought he threw
the best deep ball of any of the quarterbacks in the country, although,
I thought Pennix Jr. was really close.
He can throw it, people. You'll find that out.
He can really throw it. We'll see what happens when he's playing against NFL starters,
and the opposing defense has game planned for him.
But the check to the all-go, the five-verts, didn't seem to be something that the coaching staff had given him.
the ability to do before the game started.
This was Dan Quinn after the game being asked about this play.
To have Gene check into that big play.
I mean, how encouraging is that to see a guy come out?
Just have no fear to.
It's an interesting question, checking into it.
I thought of Top Gun, do I have permission to buzz the tower?
No ghost rider, the pattern is full.
And so I think on that one, he wanted to ask for forgiveness and not permission,
and then throw an ass.
absolute dime, you know, over the top of the Diomi to go. So it was a really cool play. I think it
probably illustrates for him, the awareness and checks and things that go into it. So, yeah, he did
not ask for permission. So he went ahead and buzzed the tower anyway. So it was a really cool play.
Really good stuff from Dan Quinn there, real honesty from Dan Quinn there. He did not have to
tell us that. You know, he didn't have to tell us that Jaden Daniels basically did something he wasn't
supposed to do. How about the look that Daniels had on his face? It was, you know, the cat that
ate the canary look, you know, smiling back at the sideline like, I know you told me not to do it,
but it turned out okay. You know, I think really what they were trying to avoid yesterday was a check
into a dropback situation, especially with five wides, right? And nobody else other than the
five men in front of him in protection, they wanted him to hand the ball off.
throw a few quick game throws and get him out of there because they just were missing so many pieces up front.
Now that drive ended in a zone read keeper for him for a touchdown.
And that leads me to, yeah, this, a big takeaway from a preseason game.
This is my big takeaway from yesterday's game.
And I'm going to do a quick what I liked, what I didn't like, et cetera, from the game yesterday in the next segment.
My big takeaway from the game is that we saw some of what Cliff Kingsbury's offense is going to be in 2024.
I think we did.
Two things.
One, the zone read, and yes, I think we're going to see a lot of zone read.
It's certainly going to be sprinkled into the equation, and I don't think it's going to be a red zone thing or a short yardage thing.
I think you're going to see it, you know, anywhere on the field.
Hell, Jeff Driscoll ran a triple option play, pitched it to a back in the second half.
So that is going to be a part of what Cliff Kingsbury's offense is, which, by the way, I'm in total agreement.
It should be.
I mean, when you have the opportunity with a quarterback that would strike fear into any defense when presented and posed as a run threat,
You're in 11 on 11, you know, territory in your run game.
You want that.
You also give yourself a really good chance for play action to work and be more effective.
So we saw that, and I think that's a part.
It's not like he's just running that to run it in preseason games.
It's because they're practicing that, and that's going to be a big part of what they do.
That does not surprise me, but I'm pleased by it.
Secondly, is we saw plenty of no huddle in that game, not always with the intent of going up tempo.
But I do think tempo is going to be a big part of the Kingsbury attack.
I think we'll see a lot of plays with no huddle.
A lot of times it will be just about getting to the line of scrimmage or near it quickly
and having the ability to go fast if they want to go fast.
You know, we saw all the quarterbacks.
You know, Daniels, Marioita, maybe not Marioita, he was barely in there.
Driscoll Hartman, all go no huddle, even at times with Pace.
I think Pace is going to be a big part of the offense.
I think dual threat, you know, zone reeds going to be a big part of what they do.
You know, if yesterday the goal for Jaden Daniels was to, you know, make sure he got out there
and ran a relatively smooth operation, taking the plays in his helmet, calling the plays in the huddle,
getting to the line of scrimmage, or not even calling them in a huddle because they weren't even huddled a lot of the time.
There were a few times they were huddled.
But for the purposes of him to build some confidence and get his feet wet but feel good about the performance,
they got an A for that yesterday.
It was a smooth operation.
If another goal was to, you know, produce a little bit,
Well, 11 plays 70 yards, 6 minutes and 21 seconds with a touchdown is about the best you could hope for in terms of production.
This was Jaden Daniels talking about what he got out of this first preseason game in that one drive.
No, it's just one drive, but does it going that well, does it kind of give you confidence moving forward?
Yeah, I feel like it just gives everybody confidence moving forward.
Obviously, not just me, but be able to connect with Diami down the field.
I know that gave him confidence he made a tough catch later on on the curve off from Jeff.
But just seeing the low steps that we need to take in order to be successful and execute a high level.
Remember this about yesterday.
And by the way, the joint practice with the Jets on Thursday, which I was reading from Ireland,
had many very, very distraught and concerned.
But remember this, and let me preface what I'm going to say with, this is not for the majority of you.
This is for some of you who each summer, this time of the summer, August, you know, after a joint practice or after a preseason game, you seem to forget every year how completely irrelevant what you're seeing.
What you're seeing right now is to what you'll see in the regular season.
Hell, the regular season early in the regular season, September, early October, doesn't look anything like it will look in November and December.
The practice on Thursday, yesterday's preseason game, next week's practice in Miami, the preseason game on Saturday night in Miami.
I mean, deep breaths.
I had so many tweets and texts from people who I like and respect sounding a five alarmer after the deep.
joint practice on Thursday.
I'm not even going to read them
because I don't really feel like calling them out by name.
But between, you know, Jaden didn't look good, he was seven for 15, you know,
with all checkdowns and 25 yards of yardage and Emmanuel Forbes and the offensive line,
I mean, you would have thought the joint practice for some of you was worth two regular
season games.
By the way, on that, I actually
went back when I was reading some of this on Thursday, and I was going to tweet it out from Ireland,
but I just kind of lost interest after a while. But I saved some of the things that I found from last
year's joint practice with the Ravens, the reaction to it. It was mostly positive. In fact, the practice
and then the preseason win over the Ravens last summer had so many of you so excited. And I pulled
some of the quotes, and I was going to retweet some of those in the wake of the Thursday joint
practice concern. But I didn't, but I'll read some of them that I found right now.
So, you know, again, the point being after last year's joint practice, these were some of the
things that were written. Quote, it's been a long time since Washington has frustrated a good
defense. Sure, it's one practice, but it's another encouraging some.
for the commander's offense under new offensive coordinator, Eric B. Enemy.
That did not age very well, did it?
How about this one? After the joint practice with the Ravens last year.
Quote, Emmanuel Forbes is locking up Odell Beckham, Jr.
Forbes was all over the field in the commander's joint practice with the Ravens.
Forbes reportedly had many impressive battles with the Ravens starting wide receiver core.
Forbes also ended up getting in a minor fight with Thailand Wallace towards the end of practice.
The commander's rookie cornerback showing and then in capital letters, major potential.
That was how many were feeling about Emmanuel Forbes after the joint practice,
about the offense after the joint practice.
Here's another good one.
Quote, quarterback Sam Hal followed a strong preseason debut with a sharp practice against the Ravens,
full of quick, decisive throws.
He might not have thrown a pass more than 15 yards in the air,
but as the completions piled up,
the tough Ravens pass rush seemed to grow frustrated.
And then this was the best one that I found.
Hold on. Here it is.
Off of the joint practice with the Ravens last summer.
Baltimore having a hard time against Washington's defense.
Manders, as in commanders, oh God.
Manders D looks ready to take a step towards dominance.
Anyway, you get the point.
Anybody freaking out over the practice on Thursday,
just like anybody thinking after yesterday's preseason game,
that we can hand Jaden Daniels the Rookie of the Year award after one series?
No, sorry, you have to wait.
These games mean nothing.
These practices, joint practices, are great for the teams.
And for the teams, they actually mean more because the players are on the field for them for a lot longer versus the preseason game.
But we don't know anything.
I'm sorry.
I know some of you really believe that you know something right now based off of either seeing the joint practice or watching it online or reading the reports or the way you feel after the preseason game yesterday.
at this point the people that are in the building and have all the information,
they're not completely sure yet about a lot of things.
With that said, though, in terms of individual performances in the context of it being a preseason game,
I did write down a few things that I kind of liked and a few things that I did not like,
and I will get to those right after these words from a few of our sponsors.

All right, let's get to my Game Take.
Pay attention.
Here's Kevin's Game Take.
All right, a list of things that I liked, didn't like,
and a few other observations from the game yesterday in the Meadowlands
where it was not as hot as it could have been on August 10th at 12 noon.
I guess Hurricane Debbie, Tropical Storm Debbie,
the remnants had something to do with it with all of the rain up and down the East Coast before.
But anyway, I'll start with Jaden Daniels on the list of things that I liked, you know, for a
preseason game, for his first preseason game.
It was a smooth operation.
He was poised, which he's always been.
I mean, even going back, you know, to him at Arizona State, you know, he just has a certain
disposition, a certain demeanor, that it's tough to really rattle him. I think that's a great
trait in a quarterback. We'll see if it holds up at the pro level, but he certainly wasn't rattled
yesterday and he made a couple of really good plays. And it was a smooth operation on the 11 plays
over 70 yards and six minutes and 21 seconds. Number two on the list is Brian Robinson, Jr.
It was five carries 20 yards. There was some running room there, but there was some yards after
contact as well. You know, Brian Robinson, Jr. was 32nd in the league last year in rushing
attempts with 178. If everything goes well this year, he's going to be much higher than 32nd in
rush attempts. I wouldn't be surprised if he is top 15-ish in rushing attempts this year, if he
stays healthy and things go the way Cliff Kingsbury hopes they'll go. He runs with, we know,
real urgency in power. We know that. His vision continued to get better. He was less upright
than he last year than he was maybe his rookie year. I think Kingsbury's got big plans for
Brian Robinson Jr. I do. I thought he looked great on that opening drive. Again, albeit against
the Jets, twos and threes, you know, the Jets starting defense is really good. They didn't
have to face that. But I think Brian Robinson, Jr. has a chance to be a big time productive back,
especially with a quarterback that's going to be involved in the running game.
I know the offensive line will have a lot to do with that,
but their offensive line wasn't very good last year.
And, you know, he didn't get that many opportunities.
He did average over four yards per carry.
I just think he's got big plans.
I think James Connor is a good comp for him in Arizona,
where Kingsbury really used Connor a ton,
especially during their 11 and 6 season in 2021.
They're about the same size.
They've got similar running styles.
I think Brian Robinson, Jr.
is going to be a big part of 2024 on offense if they're successful.
I thought another back looked really good.
And it wasn't Echler or Rodriguez.
It was Michael Wiley.
He's got really good vision.
Love the way he ran the football.
He's 5'10.
He's 2.10.
He's got some wiggle.
He's got some burst.
Eight carries, 34 yards, and a touchdown.
He looked better than Rodriguez, who I've,
liked all along, but, you know, the intangibles with Rodriguez, there's some things there.
We'll see.
Wiley might push him for that last running back spot.
If there is a last running back spot, I would assume that there would be.
But I thought Wiley was impressive.
I thought Diommy Brown, who's had, you know, by all accounts, a very impressive training
camp.
It wasn't just that catch.
It was another catch from Driscoll.
He ended up in the game.
with two catches for 55 yards, the 42-yard are on three targets.
But, you know, Diami Brown's got some size to him.
You know, he's not the Tremaine guy.
He's not necessarily a McCaffrey.
But he plays a little bit bigger than maybe he is.
He's got some length to him.
I think with, you know, a coordinator, with a quarterback,
Diami Brown might emerge as that third receiver,
and you'd probably see Dotson more in the slot, potentially.
Although I think Zakias could be that guy,
but I thought Diami Brown did himself well yesterday,
and apparently has been doing that throughout training camp.
Ben Sinait was an absolute beast with the football in his hands.
I mean, yes, he looks exactly like Cooley, plays exactly like Cooley.
647.
I think Cooley was 6.3 and a half in 247, 250 somewhere around there.
And the rookie from K State, three catches, 57.
yards and plenty of yards after contact.
He was very, very impressive.
I thought a couple of guys on defense popped a little bit on screen.
San Ristill, Louvre, KJ. Henry a bit.
You know, there was a play in the first half on a wide receiver screen to number 17.
I think I forget who that was Brownlee, maybe.
It may have been.
you know, San Ristill hit him, Lovu chased him down,
just high motors on San Ristel and Louvoo.
You saw that at Carolina with Louvue.
You saw that in college with San Ristill.
I thought they popped a little bit.
I like the way Driscoll and Hartman stood in there
and took some big shots on some big throws Driscoll to Brown,
Diami Brown on the third and seven on the fourth drive of the first half,
Hartman to Senate in the third quarter.
I thought Zakias looked good.
And I've heard about Zakias, super high IQ player.
They obviously like him.
You know, he was on the field a bunch.
He's in that slot.
He's, you know, potentially going to be back there on punt returns.
You know, we didn't see Crowder back there yesterday.
We saw that guy, Davis back there.
And I think Zichias was listed ahead of Crowder on the depth chart.
I think he was.
The wide receivers were, you know, Terry, Dotson, Zekees, and Brown, I think.
On the depth chart, I'm forgetting.
I like Kaz Allen, by the way, too.
He was back there on kickoff returns.
He also had a reverse early in the first half that got called back,
but that was about an 11-yard play.
You know, I liked him last year,
the guy that set the high school record for most touchdowns in a career,
in a season as well, I think.
And I thought number 10 popped a little bit yesterday, as did, as did KJ Henry.
There's something about KJ. Henry that I like.
I don't know what it is, but that 6 foot 4 inch, 255, 260 pound frame, he's quick twitch
and he's able to bend and get low.
And I think he rushes with great angles.
I don't know where the room is for him with, you know, Farrell and Armstrong and, you know, now Jamie Davis lining up as a three-point stance defensive end.
I like K.J. Henry. I liked him last year. Maybe it's about liking him last year. A few of the things that I didn't like yesterday. And look, this number one is often a complaint even early in the regular season every year.
But the tackling wasn't great at times.
I mean, there was a big miss by Jeremy Reeves to stop a play short of the sticks.
But Braylon Allen, the running back from Wisconsin, another in the long line of Wisconsin running backs.
I mean, this dude is a load.
It's going to be interesting with Breece Hall to see where Allen fits in with the Jets.
Six carries 54 yards, a lot of it coming after contact, nine yards a pop.
The tackling just wasn't.
great, but it never is this time of year for really anybody. Their quarterback that was in there
in the second half, Adrian Martinez, who played at Nebraska, played at K-State, they couldn't get
him down at times. Yeah, so tackling would be on the list of things that I didn't like. You know,
Riley Patterson missing a 39-yard field goal, that would be on the list. The field goal thing's going to
get interesting as we get later in camp. You know, the rest of it is really more observational, because I
didn't put Emmanuel Forbes Jr. on the things that I didn't like list, and I'll tell you why.
I like the way he battled out there. I thought he battled. I thought he got away with some contact,
maybe on that early deep shot that he got a credit for a pass breakup on against, I think it was Brownlee.
The touchdown to Brownlee, it's a perfect throw, guys. I mean, an excellent job catching it and
getting two feet in. Forbes saw it. He was there. He didn't make the play, understood. And I'm not
sure how many would make the play in that spot? I thought he battled. I thought even at times,
you know, he put his head down there, you know, trying to be physical as a tackler. They're
putting him out there a lot. I know they put him out there a lot against Garrett Wilson and the
joint practice and people lost their minds saying, oh, my God, you might be right about Forbes.
I mean, we'll see. But I like the way he fought yesterday. Just, you know, a personal observation.
It wasn't on the good list, wasn't on the bad list.
I just wanted to make that comment about Forbes.
Jamon Davis lining up with a hand in the dirt as a defensive end,
had a couple of decent tackles.
To me, it's not going to be whether or not he can make some tackles.
It's going to be whether or not he can get to the quarterback.
The kickoff rule, God, it looks strange.
Looks so strange.
I'm not sure yet on how I feel.
I need to see more of it.
Hartman injured his shoulder.
which is why Driscoll came back in the game.
I'm not sure how serious that is.
And no, I'm not ready to can Marietta for Driscoll.
Marietta, Marietta, I'm not ready because of the one rough series for him.
And then, again, just to emphasize, the Kingsbury offense, so much curiosity about what it's going to look like when we get to the regular season.
I think we saw some of it yesterday.
We saw no huddle.
We saw loose huddle.
We saw some tempo,
some, you know, perhaps ready to go tempo if the opportunity presents itself.
We saw quarterback as part of the run game with, you know, zone read.
We saw an emphasis on running the football.
I think we're going to see a ton of running the football compared to what we saw last year for sure.
I think this is going to be an offense.
that definitely leverages the quarterback's immense talent in all of his talent.
But I think running the football with a Robinson Jr. and an Echler and maybe a Wiley
is going to be a big part of what they'll do.
Because while I think Kingsbury is creative,
and I think he will want to take advantage of some of the things that Jaden does well,
I think he also understands and will be responsible in making sure that a young rookie quarterback
has some of the things that we know as NFL fans are important or run game for starters.
And being able to, you know, throw from a clean pocket off play action because you are running the football.
You know, they gave them a big tight end.
We didn't see him yesterday, but I think Zach Ertz is going to be a big part of what they do.
Obviously, it would be great to have a great defense that takes the ball away, that scores, that sets up excellent starting field position.
But I think there's a coordinated understanding.
We'll see when we get to the regular season between Kingsbury and Quinn that we understand this guy's got a hell of a lot of talent.
And there are a lot of things we're going to be able to do.
But the best thing we can do with a young quarterback is give him as much support, run the football, you know, have some quick game as a part of what they do.
Definitely, you know, have some dual threat zone read stuff.
where he'll feel super comfortable because he did it a bunch last year.
You know, have some quarterback draw, have some deep shots,
you know, some quick deep shots with Max Protect.
You know, these are the kinds of things that I think they will be aware of
and responsible with.
I do.
I trust Kingsbury.
That's crazy because I haven't seen one game.
But there isn't anybody that I've talked to that,
knows this guy at the college level and knows people that know them well, that they swear by
Cliff Kingsbury. Just like everybody swears by Dan Quinn, too. Nobody was swearing by Eric B.
Enemy last year. Nobody was. And there's a lot of, I think a lot of faith being put into
Cliff Kingsbury with the sole job of being a coordinator, not a head coach. All right, a couple of
other thoughts to finish up the show right after these words from a few of our sponsors.

We're just trying to get as much ammunition here for the last pitches to various advertisers prior to football season beginning.
So a couple of things here to finish up the show with.
First of all, it was preseason football this weekend,
but I did jot down a couple of notes because I was interested in the other quarterbacks.
I mean, we had six taken in the top 12.
Caleb Williams played two series for the Bears and looked good, you know, by all accounts.
I'm sure you've seen that little flip pass to D'Andre Swift or, you know, the bootleg where he kind of threw a comeback on the run.
You know, it's preseason.
He's got a good team around him, man.
and he plays loosely.
I mean, he's not, you know, rattled by much either.
He played two series, end up going four for seven, had a good run for first down.
I think all four completions were for first downs.
Bo Nix earlier today did not start for the Broncos.
Jarrett Stedham did, but Bo Nix threw the ball 21 times.
Sean Payton gets his quarterbacks into rhythm in the preseason.
Bo Nix was 15 of 21.
for 125 yards in a touchdown in a shootout in Indianapolis today, winning 34 to 30.
Back on Thursday night, Drake May played a little bit not much.
They say he is definitely kind of behind in terms of the other quarterbacks.
And this is going to be a long-term project, I think, with Drake May.
Jacoby Brissette is the penciled-in starter there.
And I think Bailey Zappy could end up being the backup potentially with Drake May being the third.
guy. I mean, I think they, and this was talked about with Drake May, right? You know, going back to,
you know, going back to pre-draft is that he needed a lot of time. He was the least ready to play
as a rookie. J.J. McCarthy threw a pick, but then through two touchdowns. I was not a big
J.J. McCarthy guy coming out. I actually think Sam Darnold's going to be interesting in
Minnesota with Kevin O'Connell. Kevin O'Connell schemes people open.
They've got weapons there, you know, if Jefferson, you know, remains healthy and he wasn't healthy last year.
And Jordan Addison, you know, and the big tight end, I don't know when he'll be back, Hawkinson.
But McCarthy was 11 of 17 and threw two touchdown passes, you know, a couple of nice, really good-looking balls.
But I think Sam Darnold is going to start there.
And Pennix Jr., I, you know, he was the guy that I liked after, you know, Williams and Daniels, which, you know, to me were one-in-one.
I just like Pennix Jr. a lot more than Drake May.
We'll see what happens over a period of time, but he can throw it, man, and he throws it quickly,
super quick release.
He's not going to play this year.
That's a huge benefit to sit behind a guy like Kirk this year.
But those were, right, all of the rookie quarterback situations.
And then I think there was just one injury of note.
from preseason weekend number one.
It's still going on.
But Hollywood Brown injured a clavicle could be out for a month.
The receiver in Kansas City now signed a one year, I don't know,
$8, $9, $10 million deal.
Chiefs have had no luck with wide receivers.
Does it matter?
They win Super Bowles.
I mean, Kelsey, Pacheco, they'll be fine.
They drafted Savior Worthy.
But they were counting on Hollywood Brown,
and he was going to have a chance to go against his former team,
the Ravens in that season opener and he may miss that game.
A couple of other quick things to finish up the show with.
I'm sure most of you at this point have seen Jaden Daniels walking into the stadium yesterday
and then standing at the podium during his postgame press conference wearing a Doug Williams
Redskins jersey.
He was paying tribute to Doug who turned 69 years old on Friday.
Oh my God.
But I saw this tweet from longtime NFL
reporter Albert Breer, as there was a video of Jaden walking into the Meadowlands in the Doug
Williams jersey. And he tweeted, for the life of me, I don't know why changing the name meant having
to change the classic uniform. Could have easily incorporated new branding into that or one of
the other throwback looks. Yeah, you're preaching to the choir. Ask Jason Wright and Will Misselbrook
how they got to what they got to.
And then lastly, the Olympics are going to end tonight.
How about Steph Curry yesterday?
Insane.
And it just made me think, Steph Curry can't finish up his career in Golden State if
Golden State's not going to be a contender.
And right now, they are far from being a contender.
That moment yesterday at the end of the game when he hit four threes down the stretch to
ice the game, first of all, the intensity of that game was great.
great. I did not expect to sit down and watch that game and feel what I felt, which was
incredible urgency and intensity in a road environment for the U.S. It was not a cleanly played game
by a long shot, but it was a spectacular game from an intensity standpoint. And, you know,
Steph has been with Golden State his entire career. He is 36 years old. He's
got two, three years left, something like that, I want to see him on a contender.
I want to see him playing big games.
I mean, I think it's so cool when a player starts and ends his career in one place,
but I want to see Steph on a contender.
Anyway, the Olympics turned out to be, you know, better than I thought, especially the second
week.
I love the track and field.
And congrats to some of the DMV, you know, athletes that absolutely killed it.
you know, during the Olympics.
Gold medal winners included, obviously Durant, Katie Ledecki, Noah Liles,
but Maasai Russell, God, did she run a great final?
Quincy Wilson was on the 4x400, even though he didn't run in the final.
I'm sure I'm missing some, but incredible performances by people from this area.
All right, I am done for the day.
I will have a show tomorrow as well.
I'm not sure if Tommy will be on it, but I'm going to try to get Tommy to come in for tomorrow's show.
Thanks, back tomorrow.
Good to be back.
Not as thrilled as I should be to be back because the trip was so good.
And I will share more about that trip when Tommy's on with me next.
All right, that's it.
