You don't want it.
You don't need it, but you're going to get it anyway.
The Kevin Chean Show.
Here's Kevin.
The day had already been a difficult one, and then it got worse.
Early third quarter, Jaden Daniels, sacked, fumbled, and injured again.
Window Nation is the presenting sponsor of this show if you need new Windows 86690 Nation.
or windownation.com. I'm in for a postgame show following Washington's 44 to 22 loss in Dallas
against the Cowboys, a loss that drops Washington to three and four up next, the Chiefs on Monday night
football at Arrowhead. Dan Quinn said shortly after the game that Jaden is scheduled to have an MRI
tomorrow on his hamstring. I would guess that we are in for a
another one of those, will he or won't he weeks? Like will he or won't he practice, will he or won't
he play? I'll get to my game take starting in the next segment. Here in the open, I want to
focus on two things, the offense and then the worst part of this game. Assuming that Jaden's injury
isn't a super severe one, Jaden did kind of give the thumbs up to his family, his mother, and Quinn
said that he wanted back in after going into the locker room, they just would not let him
back into the game. I'll get to the worst part of the game. I'll start, though, with Jaden and the
offense. They didn't have a good day. Jaden didn't have a good day. The offense didn't have a good
day. They didn't look good, really at any point in the game. Of course, lots of missing pieces.
The three top receivers out, Debo, after the show,
on Friday was ruled out for this game. But look, against the worst defense in the NFL heading into
this game, the offense and the quarterback didn't do its part in a game where they needed
to do more than their part. You know, maybe they were on the verge of putting something together
in the second half. That first drive of the third quarter, Jaden had just, you know, escaped
and made a third and ten throw to Chris Moore to move the chains.
down to the Dallas 39-yard line.
But the next snap was the play.
Jaden not only got hurt, but he also failed to protect the football.
And with that turnover and with him leaving the game, there went any hope, any legitimate
hope of getting back into the game.
Jaden and the offense did not do enough.
That is true about the game today.
But what's also true is that this season is on.
on the brink of coming off the rails.
And let me be clear, I'm not predicting it will.
Long way to go.
Plenty of football.
We've all been through these seasons.
We're all NFL fans.
We know how quickly things change.
But this season right now through seven games is in trouble because of one thing more
than anything else.
The defense stinks.
It's an abject disaster right.
now. I'm sure part of it is personnel, but some of this has to fall on the defensive
coordinator. Joe Witt Jr. has been the team's defensive coordinator now for 27 games, 20 last
year and 7 this year. And the defense under his direction has been a bad defense for the majority
of those 27 games. Actually, the significant majority of those 27 games. Actually, the significant majority of those
27 games. They gave up a ridiculous number again of explosive plays, another six or seven today.
They now can't stop the run. That is reverting to last year's biggest issue. They don't take
the ball away. Another game with no takeaways, three total now through seven games. Only one
team has fewer than New York Jets. You know, after a game like this one today, and it wasn't all on the
defense, just like Monday night wasn't all on the defense. But this feels like a moment where something
might happen. Not sure if it will, but the defense is a huge problem. They've looked like a
respectable defense this year only when they've played bad or injured offenses, period. And as of
the moment, they don't have many of those left on the schedule.
They don't have many injured or bad offenses left on the schedule.
Maybe they'll be injured by the time they play them.
Who knows?
Dan Quinn, just a little while ago after the game,
said that when it comes to the explosive plays on defense,
he said, quote, I'll look at everything, closed quote.
Sounds ominous.
And he did not look happy.
and he had no explanation for why they keep giving up big plays week after week.
Here are some of the options for Dan Quinn.
Okay, he's going to look at everything as it relates to explosive plays, the defense specifically.
Here are the options, okay?
He could do nothing.
He himself could take over defensive play calling.
he could give the defensive play calling to somebody else but not take it himself.
He could make personnel changes.
He could make personnel changes and do something about the play calling.
And of course, there's a chance, albeit I think a long shot and a slim chance.
He could let Joe Witt Jr. go.
I don't think he'd do that in season, but man, he did not look happy.
at the podium a little while ago.
I think the do-nothing option is the longest odds option right now.
I told you guys last week after the Monday night game that I just had a hunch,
didn't talk to anybody about it.
The people that I've talked to kept saying the same thing over and over again.
It's not just him, it's everything.
But I just had this weird feeling that if we got another one like Monday,
night, like the Atlanta game, like the Charger game at times, that it was going to be something
that Dan Quinn would address. He could do nothing. I bet he does something. What do I think
he'll do? I have no idea, but I think he's going to do something. It certainly sounded
like he is going to consider doing something. Now remember this. When Quinn got the head coaching job,
he hired Joe Witt Jr. to be the defensive coordinator and to be the play caller.
And part of what he said he learned about his time in Atlanta was to delegate more and to be more of a CEO coach.
Now, I know he's involved in listening to the calls and perhaps even making suggestions.
Would he take the play calling back? Maybe not. Maybe there's someone else he would give it to.
I think that there are potential personnel changes as well.
But, you know, the options there aren't like overwhelming.
Like, you know, what are you going to do in this secondary?
You got some guys, but are they any better?
I guess you could sit Bobby Wagner, and he did get banged up today.
He may have missed some of the plays.
I'll let you know that tomorrow with the snap count,
but there was no doubt he was out for some of those, for some of the game.
and Jordan McGee was in there.
But I think Dan Quinn might do something.
I think he might.
I think play calling could shift either himself or another coach on the staff.
That's my guess.
Along with maybe a personnel change or two,
because there's no way he's going to throw Witt Jr.
Under the bus exclusively.
He's going to talk about being a lot of different things,
but as the head coach, he wants to mix things up.
That's my guess.
I don't know that.
I have not talked to anybody that suggested that.
Again, the last time I had some conversation with anybody was really like two weeks ago now, and they said, it's everything.
Because I started to ask, is this a possibility?
Is it more scheme and play calling or is it more personnel?
Yeah, this will be an interesting week.
I think it'll be an interesting tomorrow press conference when Quinn meets with the media, usually late afternoon.
But when he said, quote, I'm looking at everything, closed quote, that sounded, especially when you consider the question was about the explosive plays allowed by the defense.
That sounded like he's going to consider making a change.
Now, back to the offense and the offense's biggest problem.
And it's a conversation that has to be had.
Jaden Daniels is injured again, a hamstring this time, the MRI tomorrow.
We don't know if this is going to keep them out of game or games, plural.
But big picture, Jaden Daniels is injured for the second time in seven games this year.
and they can't be the team that they want to be without him playing
and without him playing at 100%.
Is this going to be our existence with this brilliant young talent?
That's the conversation we got to have.
We had it earlier this season.
It's like last year, ribs, this year knee,
and now this year hamstring.
You know, is he going to be this brilliant talent?
that moves in and out of the lineup with a body that just can't hold up 17 games out of the year?
Maybe he's been hurt three times in 27 games.
That would be an average of an injury every nine games.
I realize that that's not the way it works, but I'm just trying to emphasize the concern here.
We'll see about this one.
You know, it's a new one, you know, rib, knee, and now,
Hamstring. Today was difficult for him before the injury. Of course, the wide receiver situation
with Debo ruled out and no Terry and no Noah Brown. It wasn't ideal. And there wasn't much help
from those that did play, multiple drop balls in the first half, not much of a run game to
help out, and penalties galore. But I didn't think he looked like himself today. I don't think he
looked anything like he looked even two weeks ago against the Chargers. Again, he didn't play
the whole game. Maybe he was on the verge of lighting it up in the second half. And they were on
the move early third quarter coming off a drive at the end of the first half that produced a
touchdown. And we've seen with Jaden, you know, some rough first halves followed by brilliant
second halves. We've seen that multiple times during his career.
So maybe that was on the verge of happening.
I will tell you this, in that moment when he completed that third and 10 to Chris Moore kind of off schedule,
and they're at the Dallas 39-yard line, and they had just scored on their last possession of the first half,
I thought we were going to be at 27 to 22 pretty soon after that third and 10 completion.
Now, the defense was still going to be a problem, but obviously he didn't get that opportunity.
He wasn't himself, though.
You know, certainly at times in the first half, he missed a few throws again with some inaccuracy issues,
with some accuracy issues.
He missed Ertz high, missed Lane on an out that should have been easy pitch and catch.
And look, accuracy has been a bit of an issue at times this year going back to the opener.
against the giants. And there could be a lot of reasons for that. And it could be the fact that there
were a lot of new guys out there. But he didn't do his part and the offense didn't do its part,
you know, overall. Dropping passes and penalties that killed drives. It was not a good day for
the offense and it needed to be a great day. We knew that going in. We knew that. We
knew that there was no way this defense could hold Dallas to a reasonable number. The best
defense was going to have to be their offense, and it wasn't. So here we are, you know, moving
towards late October now and the halfway mark of a season that is, you know, under duress
currently. They have been an injured team. There's no doubt about it. And they are now
officially a very bad team defensively. They have just one NFC win. The upcoming schedule
looks brutal, and their starting quarterback is hurt again. But long way to go. Most of you like me,
we've been around now for a while and know that this league will make you look stupid when you
declare anything for sure in October. Right now, Jaden's health.
the receivers, health, and what Quinn does about the defense are the immediate issues that need
answers and that are a bit in limbo. The chiefs at Arrowhead next Monday night. That's not exactly
where you want to bounce back and get healthy. I'll get to my game take next after these words
from a few of our sponsors.

Lottado.
Hears it out, deep to the field.
CEDY Lowe.
Bricks the tackle.
No one home.
Touchdown.
Dallas.
74 yards, Prescott to lamb.
It was still the first quarter.
The Cowboys had a 17 to 8 lead.
How about Marshawn, Latimore, and Kwan Martin colliding again?
That has become a weekly ritual.
I'll get to my game take in a moment.

dot com.
All right, let's get to my game take.
Pay attention.
He's Kevin's Game Take.
Let's start with the good, and I don't know how you start with anybody other than Duran
Payne.
94 was outstanding in this game.
Now, maybe Steve's film breakdown on Wednesday will reveal something different, but
in watching the game on television, Durand Payne had a tackle for safety, three-tipped passes
in the game and multiple pressures in the game.
Remember a few years ago, 2023, when he literally had an entire series
where he tipped two balls and had a sack in Denver?
Duran's capable of this kind of play a lot more often than he gives it to us.
It's too bad it went for naught in a game in which they got blown out.
And it's too bad it happened in a game in which.
the defense got torched. But his performance, certainly three, four, five plays were very noticeable.
Duran Payne kicks off the list of good. Look, the play before Duran Payne's safety was Tress Ways,
incredible punt, and Percy Butler's incredible job keeping the ball at the one-yard line or inside the one-yard.
line. But trussways on the list of things that were good from this game. He averaged 57.2 yards
per punt. And that back to back after Dallas had taken a 7-0 lead in Washington had gone
three and out on offense, the punt. Percy Butler, who by the way is also in this list, not only did
he do a great job of keeping that in bounds. He had another really big hit on punt coverage. But that
early portion of the game was a big turnaround.
Because if that punt goes into the end zone and Dallas starts from their own 20,
up 7-0-0, is there any question that it's going to be 10 to nothing or 14 to nothing
by the time Washington gets the ball back?
Instead, it was 7-2, and Washington, on their second drive, drove it down the field
and scored a touchdown.
So Duran Payne won on this list, Tressway 2, person.
Butler is three on this list. Number four on this list is Luke McCaffrey as a kickoff for Turner.
He had eight of them. Dallas scored a lot in this game. He averaged 26.1 yards per return below
his average, but he had a couple of really good ones, including a 41-yarder. Man, it looks like
he's going to break one and go a lot further in a game.
I would not be surprised if McCaffrey scores a touchdown on a kickoff return this year.
He also took that big hit at the end of the first half on the kickoff return after Dallas
scored with 10 seconds to go in the game.
But Luke McCaffrey is on the list of good.
So is Jeremy McNichols, an incredible 19-yard run on the drive at the end of the first half
that made it 20 to 15, broke two tackles, kept it.
His balance amazingly, just a great run.
He had four touches in the game.
That's it.
Two runs, two catches, totaling 45 yards.
Jeremy McNichols is a really good player for this team.
Robbie Chosen, the receiver, the veteran receiver, not only played, had four catches
for 36 yards on four targets.
plus he drew a P.I. on a fourth and eight with Marioota in the game,
and then really should have drawn a P.I. on that deep shot at the end of the first half on that free play,
when Dallas jumped off sides and Jaden took the deep shot, how that wasn't pass interference.
That made no sense. That was egregious.
Robbie Chosen is on the list of things that I liked.
You know, I put Frankie Louvre down here. He had a couple of TFLs.
nailed Javon Williams
Javante Williams, excuse me,
for like a two or three yard loss.
He also had him up for like a one-yard loss.
I don't know.
Louvoo, again, the film may reveal something else,
and it's hard to really come up with anybody defensively
other than Duran.
There were some plays defensively,
some past breakups in the game.
I'll get to that.
But I put Frankie Lille.
Louvo, and I also put 55, Jacob Martin, on the things that I liked.
I thought he had some good pressures.
He got credited for a half a sack in the game, but he really should have had another
one where he basically pressured and then got Dak to the ground, but Dak got back just
barely beyond the line of scrimmage, so it didn't, you know, register as a sack.
I think 55 Jacob Martin as a pass rusher has been.
decent at times.
That's it on the list of things that I liked.
I mean, Jalen Lane had another nice pass reception,
and, you know, Chris Moore had a big one, but, you know, that's it.
I mean, Duran really, you know, Tress, Percy Butler, Luke McCaffrey, Jeremy McNichols,
you know, Robbie chose and I put there four targets, four catches,
and really one PI, and it should have been two PI that he drew in the game.
All right, the list of things that I did not like from this blowout loss.
There's a lot.
Number one is this.
I mentioned as a key to the game on Friday that they needed to, you know,
they needed to, you know, basically have a great day offensively,
which I thought they were capable of against this defense.
And they didn't.
I'll get to that momentarily.
But I mentioned that, you know, you can't make mistakes in this game like you did on
Monday night.
You know, Dallas's offense is much better than Chicago's offense.
And they were getting CD Lamb back.
You can't have turnovers.
You can't have penalties.
You can't have drop passes.
You can't miss tackles.
And all of that happened.
You know, two second half turnovers.
Three first half dropped passes.
By the way, did you know they lead the league in dropped passes?
I didn't know that.
They had 12 coming in at another at least three to that list.
An S load of missed tackles.
11 penalties for 118 yards.
8 for 90 in the first half.
Look, I didn't like some of the calls,
and I'm going to get to my list of what I thought were just really bad calls
or missed calls in the game.
It wasn't going to be the difference in the game.
Some of the penalties on special teams really cost the team field position-wise.
In the first half, they had seven drives.
Three of them started at the 10, the 10, and the 13, you know, because of penalties, especially on special teams.
You know, the two turnovers, Washington's now minus five in turnover margin the last two games.
look, let's be fair. Dallas didn't need a turnover today to win because they're that good offensively.
But you just couldn't make any of these mistakes today, not like you did on Monday night.
Monday night, you could make the mistakes, and if you'd made one fewer mistakes turnover-wise,
you probably win that game. Today had to be a clean game, and it was far,
from it.
Yeah, the fumble wasn't great.
The Marcus Mario de Picks Six was just horrendous.
What a terrible decision to make that throw.
Yeah, too much self-infliction on offense in particular,
and they needed to be flawless and they were far from it.
They're just not going to win against a team that can score like the Cowboys
by giving away that many offensive possessions.
That's number one on the list.
You know, too many mistakes to win a game like the one they were in today.
Number two on the list is the defense.
There were a few plays here and there.
I've already mentioned Duran's plays.
A few pass breakups.
Sanra still had a couple.
You know, Louvue made a couple of plays.
But there just aren't those plays consecutively, you know, or often enough.
You know, the bottom line is Dallas in the game scored on seven of its 10 real drives.
They had a couple of drives at the end of the game when they were just running the ball to run the clock.
Of their 10 real drives in the game, they scored on seven of them.
They punted twice.
And on one of the punts that they were forced into, it was penalties that basically got them way behind the sticks.
If you really look at them today in just barrens,
over three quarters of trying and playing, you know, trying to score on every drive football.
They rolled up 37 points, 409 yards, 6 of 12 on 3rd down, really 6 of 10 on 3rd down,
because they had a couple of missed 3rd downs late.
They had 12 plays in the game of 10 yards or more and 7 plays in the game of 17 yards or more.
They had a 74-yard play, a 44-yard play, a 33-yard play, a 24-yard play, an 18-yard play, and 2-17-yard plays.
Lamb and Pickens, of course, are tough covers, but Giovante Williams did what Swift did to them on Monday night.
116 on 19 carries, 6.1 yards per carry. He's a good back. I've been a fan of his,
coming, you know, since the days at North Carolina, he just hasn't had the best of opportunities
and he hasn't been healthy consistently enough. The opposing lead running backs over a six-day period,
Monday night and this afternoon, 224 yards on 33 carries, Swift and Williams combined,
6.8 yards per carry. That's not good.
Dak Prescott, 21 of 30, 264 yards, three touchdowns, no picks.
He had a 130.4 passer rating.
The QBR is not out yet, but it's going to be high, very high.
Washington coverage-wise, you know, pick your guy.
It's still bad.
Latimore probably gets most of your votes, but Sandra still continues to have issues.
Even though he had a couple of plays today, he gets beat too often.
he gets picked on too often.
You know, as mentioned, you know, another Kwan Martin, Martin, you know, Marshawn Latimore, collision.
I mean, you've got to be kidding me on these.
Tackling was bad.
How about the play where Kwan gets carried by Javante Williams on that 33-yard run at the end of the first half?
Look, Dallas is really good.
They're really good, and they had lamb back, and that took them to another level.
This is an excellent offensive football team that's going to give them a chance, you know, to be in the hunt.
Their defense is terrible.
Dack made some amazing throws, especially to Pickens.
Yeah, I just looked at something.
The updated just traditional numbers, like overall yards per game,
Washington is now the fourth worst yards per allowed team in the league on defense.
Now, I haven't seen any of the updated advance numbers,
but they're not going to be very good.
It's going to be interesting to see what Quinn does if he does anything this week.
The defense is number two on the list of things that weren't good from this game.
Number three, the offense was just out of sync and nothing was consistently good enough.
There were moments, but nothing resembling, say, two weeks ago against the Chargers,
or even at times on Monday night against the Bears.
I've already talked about the penalties and drop passes, turnovers.
But there was a lot about the plan that I didn't love.
I'll start with this.
You know, Dallas did play differently than they had played the other games coming in.
They loaded the box.
They played what appeared to me to play a ton of man coverage more than they typically do.
Look, I'm sure they felt like with the receivers that Washington had out there today,
They could load the box and play man to man.
I didn't like the commitment to the run, which I didn't think was necessarily there.
I also thought that, and I could be wrong about this, that they ran more behind the right side.
Cosmi was back with Connerley Jr.
Then behind Chris Paul and Laramie Tunsell.
You know, the first play of the game is an eight-yard run by Kroski Merritt,
and then they throw it behind the line of scrimmage to Kroski-Mert for a one-yard loss.
I mean, I would have liked to have seen them just try to pound it at some point.
And look, they didn't run it successfully, ultimately on the day.
That second drive, they go 65 yards and score a touchdown.
But then on the third drive, a five-yard first down run by Kroski Merritt,
and then they're thrown again, and Ertz drops a pass.
They false started on a fourth down that they were going to go for on the opening drive.
You remember that from their own four.
46 opening drive.
Do you think that they had a plan?
I said this on Friday.
They're going to have to be a four-down team.
They pretty much have to treat every drive as if it's one to win the game
because that's how badly they're going to get, I thought, shredded defensively.
And on the opening drive, you know, it's fourth and three from their own 46, down 7-0.
They're going for it.
And then they false start.
You know, yeah, I mean, that was the one that also worked out to be the great.
great punt and the downing at the one yard line and the Duran Payne, you know, safety. But still,
it was like they had decent pass protection, I thought some of the day. I thought Cosmi, you know,
did a pretty good job in pass pro. I think, you know, there were good pass protection plays.
And then there were bad pass protection plays. Look, the offense in the first half had
15 points in 214 yards.
They ended up, you know, going 5 for 10 on third down before the Jaden injury.
You know, at times it looked okay, but it just wasn't good enough and it wasn't consistent enough.
You know, looking at it, it didn't look great.
You know, they couldn't get out of their own way all day.
And that just couldn't happen against that team when they were doing what they were doing when they had the ball, which was scoring.
All right, what else?
Bad ending to the first half in that, you know, you heard Brady talking about it.
They needed to take more time off the clock on offense.
Now, the one thing I'm surprised Brady didn't sort of point out is that maybe the tempo,
in going hurry up, played a role in the success of the drive.
But leaving Dallas with 40 seconds and two timeouts against our defense,
you know, you were going to give it back up more likely than not.
You were going to give up at least, you know, three of the seven that you just got.
And you've got to be a little bit smarter there.
And take your chances that without tempo or maybe getting to the line of scrimmage and waiting to snap it,
You know, keeping that defense in a three-point stance, keep them waiting, but worked that clock, and they didn't do it.
So it was not a great ending to the first half after it looked like there was a chance, a chance they could go into the break down 20 to 15 and getting the ball to start the second half.
No takeaways on the list of bad.
Three total this year.
I think I mentioned it already.
Only the New York Jets have fewer.
I didn't like going for two when they went for two.
That just doesn't make sense to me in a game like this one.
There's going to be too much scoring, too many scoring types the rest of the way to go for two that early in the first quarter.
If your plan is to go for it a lot, you know, regardless of the score,
because you think they're so bad defensively that you can make those two-point conversions at a high percentage
or a higher-than-usual percentage and just pick up some.
points, fine. If you want to be aggressive that way, but they went for two because it was
eight to seven and they wanted to make it 10 to 7 instead of 9 to 7. But there were seven minutes
and 38 seconds left in the first quarter. Makes no sense to me to do it that early.
There you go. That's the list of bad. I'll finish up the show with other observations,
including Jaden's Day and Jaden's grade. And a list of some of the calls.
that I thought just were missed or poorly called today.
I think most of them went against our team.
I do.
I don't think it cost us the game,
but I'll get to that list and more after these words
from a few of our sponsors.
Guys, personal experience with a product that I want to tell you about,
it's Zbiotics and their product called pre-alcohol.
Let's face it, after a nighted drinks,
most at our age anyway, don't bounce back.
day like we used to. You either have that choice the night before of, do I have a drink or two,
or do I pass? Because I don't want to feel badly the next day. Well, there's a surefire way to
wake up feeling fresh after drinks with friends. It's with pre-alcohol. Zbiotics, pre-alcohol,
was invented by PhD scientists to tackle rough mornings after drinking. I've noticed a difference
the next day after using pre-alcohol. You drink pre-alcohol before your favorite drink.
for me, Tito's soda, lime, or a beer, you wouldn't believe how great you feel the next day.
With spring now here, more opportunities exist to celebrate warmer weather with a product like Zbiotics pre-alcohol.
You're on the patio with friends, you're on a vacation, you're at a wedding, you just finish up a round of golf and you want to hang out and have a few with your buddies.
Drink one before drinking and wake up feeling great the next day.

Throws it in the time.
And it picked off.
Guess who?
Derron Bland would be in the beat.
Pick six.
Not Marcus Mario dairotas best.
That's for sure.
How about Duran Bland?
Now six career pick sixes.
Rod Woodson holds the record for career.
Interception returns for touchdown.
He's got 12 in his career.
Dron Bland had five of them in the 2023 season when he set the NFL record for pick sixes in a season and made all pro.
But he got another one today.

Until today, 0 and 3 on the NFL today.
So I'm 5, 4, and 1 with the Texans pending tomorrow night to try to make it eight straight weeks of more wins than losses.
It's not going to be a losing week, although if I lose tomorrow night and you guys lose because of the suggestion to bet the Texans, you'll lose, obviously, juice.
But anyway, all right, let's get to.
a few other observations from the game.
I'll start with Jaden's Day.
Obviously not his best.
He didn't get much help,
but he was not at his best.
He was just off.
He was out of sync.
Some of the accuracy issues he's had this year
kind of reared their ugly heads again on a few throws.
He missed a Urt's high,
missed the lane on an easy pitch and catch,
you know, on the sideline.
Brady pointed out on the broadcast, there were a few missed reads he thought
throws he could have made, but he made other decisions.
12 of 22 for a buck 56 with a touchdown pass, no interceptions.
The touchdown pass on the third and goal was a really good throw under pressure to Ertz.
He had some good off schedule plays, both as a passer and a scrambler,
really highlighted by that third and 10 to Moore on the play before he got hurt.
He had the early 44-yard connection with Moore on their first touchdown drive.
He had several third-down conversions.
The touchdown to Ertz was on a third down.
The 13-yarder on the third-and-10 to chosen in the first half was big.
The 35-yarder to Jalen Lane on third and six was a big play.
had some good scrambles on that final drive of the first half,
had the designed run on the third and two to open up the third quarter
where he reached the ball out on the sideline to move the sticks.
That was a big play.
He did a really good job, by the way, to snag that bad Biotta snap
down by the goal line in the first half and kept it and scored.
That was not a read option or a designed run.
It may have been his own read.
He never had a chance and did the smart thing, which he didn't do the other night.
He didn't try to give it to Bill as he was bobbling the bad snap.
Bad snap.
He tucked it away and ended up running it in for a touchdown.
He also did a nice job on that free play where there was an off-sides against the Cowboys,
and he took the deep shot to Robbie Chosen.
That was clearly past interference.
I don't know how they didn't call that.
But look, like the rest of the offense, and I'm sure part of it was the lack of, you know, at least somebody, you know, Debo, Terry.
They've made due with just Debo, even with Marioota in the games that Jaden didn't play.
Jaden's overall most disappointing game of the year for me, because the opponent was so bad on defense coming in.
You know, the penalties, the drops, those are things that he's been.
able to overcome in the past by himself. When others haven't stepped up and played well,
he has elevated it and overcome it. And he couldn't do it. Look, it's going to be hard to do that
on a day where your defense is getting torched simultaneously along with penalties and drop passes
and turnovers. Now, he had the turnover during the, you know, the competitive portion of the game.
look, like I said, maybe he was on the verge of doing something.
They had scored at the end of the first half, and they were on the move at the beginning of the third quarter.
Maybe it was going to be a monster half.
You know, at halftime, I thought down 27 to 15, I thought they were going to need at least 24 in the second half to have a shot.
They were going to need three touchdowns in a field goal minimum.
That would have gotten them to 39.
and you know if they had done that
Dallas wouldn't have scored as much as they ended up scoring
but yeah I mean look he he's had a lot of games
in his career where it's like yeah it wasn't so great to begin with
and then all of a sudden by the end you were like oh my god
this dude just strapped the team to his back
and maybe he was on the verge of doing that before the injury
because he was in that moment playing better
end of the first half drive, the third and 10.
It's completion to more, the third and two conversion on the run.
But we don't know that it was coming.
It seemed disjointed too much of the time to feel like that was going to happen.
But I gave him a C in the game.
And to win a game like that when your defense is going to give up an awful lot,
he's got to be an A and he wasn't today.
Next up on the list of just other observations.
Well, let me mention Marcus Marietta real quickly.
He had some excellent zone read keepers.
He looked better than Jaden running those.
And he also looked better than Jaden running those in the Raiders game
and in the Atlanta game.
Look, that's, Marcus Marietta was one of the,
the greatest dual threat college quarterbacks of all time. And he's been a dual threat quarterback
in the NFL, even as a starter where he started. That's where he has to be. That's the category
that he truly fits into. He's not a dropback passer. He is a dual threat guy. He's been one of his
entire career and he's good at it. It's very good running those zone reads today. He had a couple of
decent throws of the seam ball, the Ertz was good, but man, that's a terrible pick six.
And then the fourth down when they went for it, I mean, McCaffrey is wide open and he missed him
by a mile.
And that's been part of his issue as just a passer over the years.
Yeah, two sacks on 10 dropbacks.
That's not good.
I think sometimes he doesn't see it, or if he does, he tries to do a bit too much.
Um, his passer rating was bad. I guarantee you when, when the QBR comes out, it's not going to be good for Marcus Mariotta.
But I did love the zone read keepers. Um, he looks really good running those. He's more consistent, I think, in his decision making on the zone read. I think he pulls it more often when he's supposed to and gives it more often when he's supposed to. And I think Jaden's been kind of 50-50 on some of those. Um,
What else is on this?
Okay, here's the list of kind of the bad calls in the game that I think the majority actually went against our team.
You know, there was a pass interference that Robbie chosen drew on a pass from Marioad on fourth and eight that I did not think was a very good call.
That went against Dallas.
Wasn't a great throw, but they got, I forget who they got for the defensive pass interference.
But here's a list, right?
the defensive pass interference against Latimore, opening drive of the game.
I didn't think that was a great call.
I thought Latimore, unlike what Brady said, did get his head around.
Not completely, but he attempted and he got his head back towards the ball.
I did not think that that was, look, I've seen, you know, less called, certainly,
but I didn't think, given what happened.
to Robbie chosen at the end of the first half, like that was not pass interference.
I mean, but whatever.
The roughing the passer penalty on Jacob Martin where Dax helmet came off now,
they had two penalties on that play, a legal contact in roughing the passer.
But that's not roughing the passer.
I mean, Dax helmet was loose.
I mean, what are we going to do?
Have the quarterbacks loosening up their helmets so that if there's any contact to it,
it falls off and they get a roughing the passer,
15 yards versus 5 in that spot was a big deal.
That should not have been roughing the passer.
It doesn't matter because Dallas was getting an automatic first down anyway,
but still 15 yards versus 5.
The tripping on Yankoff on the kickoff return,
that wasn't really a trip, was it?
The false start on the long snapper.
That was not a big, jarring, try to draw somebody offside's move.
Even I think Pereira said it was a normal motion.
That would have been a first down had it been called off sides.
It would have been a big, big play to keep Washington's offense on the field.
Yeah, and then the missed defensive pass interference on the deep shot on the free playoff sides against the Cowboys to Robbie Chosen.
How you don't call that is ridiculous.
Now, Washington ended up scoring on that drive, but you know what?
on some level had they scored sooner, even sooner.
I wanted them to score later, but maybe Dallas scored so quickly,
and Washington would have gotten the ball back instead of with 10 seconds,
with 30 seconds or 40 seconds, who knows?
I didn't think it was a great day for the officials,
and I thought Washington took the brunt of it,
not that it was going to make a difference in the game, okay?
Let me be clear.
I don't think any of those calls or even an aggregate they cost them the game.
Did you know, by the way, the 15 total drives in the first half?
Dallas had eight.
Washington had seven.
I mean, Washington knelt out their eighth at the end of the half.
Longest, most drives in a first half this year.
Sam Cosmy back replaced Wiley.
Steve Souter guaranteed that.
I thought Cosmy and the offensive line at times held up pretty well.
with Jaden in there, maybe more so than with Marioad in there.
I think I mentioned this already, but Washington, there was a graphic that Washington led the NFL and drop passes heading into the game today.
Add another three to that list.
How about Brandon Aubrey, 61-yard field goal, all-time leader now with five career 60-plus yard field goals?
By the way, Dallas, they had a lot of penalties in this game, too.
10 for 79.
You know, Washington at 11 for 1118, I think I said.
Dallas had 10 for 79.
I think Kinlaw may have drawn two holding penalties.
I think he did.
By the way, Dallas, third home game this year,
and the third time they've scored 40 or more.
They scored 40 in overtime to beat the Giants,
40 to 37 in Week 2.
They tied the Packers on Sunday night football,
you know, a month ago or whatever.
40 to 40 and now 44-22.
This offense is humming.
Dallas has a chance, man, with that offense,
to certainly be in a lot of games.
And maybe they'll play it the way they played it against Washington.
I mean, that's a dangerous way to play it against a healthy team.
But they loaded the box and they were much better against the run than they have been.
They play at Denver next week.
interesting game. If you haven't heard about it already, Denver came back and beat the Giants,
33 to 32. They scored all 33 of their points in the fourth quarter. They were down 19 to nothing
entering the fourth quarter, and at one point we're down 26 to 8. Unbelievable comeback. The Giants
to miss some extra points in the game that were absolutely crucial.
Interesting division.
The Eagles won today.
They're at 5 and 2.
Dallas now and 2nd at 3-3-1, Washington at 3 and 4 with the Giants.
They were on the verge of being 3 and 4, but they are 2 and 5.
All right, that'll do it.
I'll be back more likely than not with an update to,
everything that I've just spent about 45 minutes talking about.
And with whatever Dan Quinn tells us tomorrow about A,
the Jaden Daniels injury,
B, perhaps maybe a change of some sort to the defensive side of the ball.
All right, that's it.
