You don't want it.
You don't need it, but you're going to get it anyway.
The Kevin Chean Show.
Here's Kevin.
Shout out of trust, you know, allow me to wear his jersey.
Obviously, what it means to him, what it means to me, he's a legend here.
So I'm very appreciate that he allowed me to wear his jersey.
The first words spoken by Jaden Daniels wearing a Washington uniform to local media.
It happened earlier today.
Following day one of rookie minicamp in Ashburn, he was thanking Tressway for allowing him to wear number five.
The show's presenting sponsor, as always, is Windonation.
If you've been thinking about new windows, call them at 86690 Nation or head towindonation.com.
Mention my name for a free, no obligation in-home estimate.
So I'm going to, in this opening segment, just play some sound from rookie minicam.
Day 1. I'm going to save the Jersey talk, the number five jersey talk for the next segment.
You'll hear more from Jaden Daniels on that. You'll also hear from an emotional trest way who announced
this the jersey swap last night, not a jersey swap, but giving Jaden Daniels number five. He announced
it last night and he was very emotional about it. And so you'll hear that as well. But there's
better stuff to start with. Like Logan Paulson's reaction to seeing Jaden Daniels up close and in person
for the first time. Now, it's just day one of rookie minicamp, so take it for what it's worth. We understand
that. But Logan, when he was on the show about a week and a half ago, you know, he preferred J.J.
McCarthy, but had Daniels right there. Those were the two guys that he really liked.
And Drake May was just, I think, maybe a slight step behind those two. But this was him after
seeing Jaden Daniels, in shorts, mind you, understood. But earlier today, Logan Paulson,
out in Ashburn talking about Jaden Daniels.
I've just been so blown away by Jane Daniels footwork. This is the first time I've seen him
person, his ability to run his feet, just comparing him to Hartman.
Hartman is a very experienced player.
Five-year starter, one of the most prolific players in the ACC, very productive.
It's like they're playing different sports.
Like his ability to get that top step, get that ball out accurately on time.
It makes me, you know, kind of is one of those things.
Like you're always worried, oh, man, he only threw goes, you only threw hitches.
But seeing the footwork like that, you're like, man, that projects to something nice and the
release, dude.
Yeah.
It's tight.
It's better than I thought.
You know what I'm saying?
It's better than I thought after watching.
all that film watching this Pro Day.
So, I mean, talk about a guy that's like, again,
there's not a lot of evaluation to take from this,
but seeing it in live and a living color for the first time.
It's pretty cool.
Logan Paulson earlier today,
really impressed, excited to see Jaden Daniels in person
and showed him some things that he didn't really see necessarily on tape.
You heard Santana weighing in.
You heard Smoot weighing in.
That was part of, you know, the Commander's YouTube station.
They were out there broadcasting the rookie minicamp on their YouTube channel.
He was referring, by the way, to Sam Hartman.
I think most of you probably picked up on that, the undrafted free agent that probably has, you know, the inside path to QB number three.
He was given a pretty hefty signing bonus for an undrafted free agent.
Sam Hartman played at Notre Dame last year, Wake Forest prior to that.
But I played that for you because I don't know football like Logan Paulson and Chris Cooley and a lot of the people that we have on.
You know, most of you and me included just kind of consider ourselves to be experienced fans.
And one of the things I tried to emphasize in the lead up to the draft is that what I loved about Jaden Daniels was so much more than just his explosion.
mobility. And again, I'm not going to sit here and break down his throwing motion or his
mechanics with feet in the pocket. I mean, we know it when we see it. We may not be able to
explain it. We certainly wouldn't be able to coach it. But it was so obvious that he had,
you know, an NFL quick release, had an NFL compact throwing motion that he was, everything was
really tight and it looked very consistent and repeatable. And to me, it was him as a pocket
passer that was every bit as impressive as the other aspect of his game, which probably
carried the conversation for most people. But it was the reason that I felt so strongly
about him. Because if I were just watching like Anthony Richardson from last year, I liked
But I said, coming into the NFL, to me, he looks like he's got to be with Greg Roman in a dual
threat attack in a Lamar Jackson style attack because he wasn't a polished pocket passer.
Jaden was.
He was from the jump this year.
And I thought he really looked apart for much of 2022 at LSU as well.
Anyway, I know that many of you, like me, you know, respect Logan's opinions.
So, you know, like our favorite former tight end, Cooley, he really knows ball.
He knows what he's looking at.
And so I thought the excitement he had for seeing Daniels today was worth playing.
Jaden spoke.
I played the initial sound from Jaden.
He took questions and gave answers for about five or six minutes.
Again, I'll save the jersey stuff for the next segment.
But, you know, on a day in which it was primarily rookies, there were a few select veterans.
He answered a couple of questions about leadership, and Ben Astandig asked him about, you know, being the quarterback, expectations to lead,
and how he goes about trying to win the locker room.
Here's what he said.
Just being myself, being a hard worker.
don't try to be somebody I'm not.
You know, people see real from fake, authentic, and who's not.
So just going out there, just be myself, try to make connections, you know, talk to people.
Obviously, I'm 23.
It's a lot of different age ranges in this locker room.
So trying to relay as much as possible, show them, you know, I'm all about the team.
I'm all about hard work.
And I'm just here to get better each and every day.
So that was Daniels on, you know, how to win the locker room, how to gain the respect of the locker room.
And like with a lot of his answers, it really gets a bit repetitive, which is fine with me,
where it's all about putting in the work for him.
This was him talking about what it's been like so far, and it's only been a few hours,
but it's been a few weeks since he was drafted.
But how it's going so far, J.P. Finley asked him how it's going so far with Cliff Kingsbury,
Tevita Pritchard.
and the offensive coaching staff.
Jay, it's only day one, but how is everything going with Cliff's Tevita getting into the offense?
Man, it's fun. It's fun. Love it. I mean, just the open communication, open dialogue,
having those guys around me. Obviously, I coached at the highest level, play too.
So a different set of eyes, man. So I'm trying to be a sponge and learn as much as possible.
Count me as legit excited about Cliff Kingsbury getting a chance to work with Jaden Daniels.
No matter what you think of Cliff Kingsbury and his time as a head coach in the NFL at Arizona,
people who know Cliff Kingsbury say that he is brilliant and incredibly creative.
He's worked with a lot of really good quarterbacks.
He himself was a quarterback.
He's put together a really good staff.
and he's got a world-class talent to be creative around.
I didn't say world-class quarterback at this point, but just in terms of the talent,
this to me is going to be very interesting.
Matt Bowen, former NFL safety, including here in Washington,
now an analyst and has been an analyst at ESPN for a few years.
Put out a story this morning on ESPN.com.
talking about the best rookie team fits, the perfect landing spots for rookie players.
And number one on his list, Jaden Daniels.
And he writes, quote, new commander's offensive coordinator Cliff Kingsbury
should be able to get the best out of Daniels, who can be schemed as a dual threat player
by maximizing his throwing traits and dynamic running ability.
I would expect a mix of 11 and 12 personnel in Washington.
11 personnel, most of you know this, one back one tight end, 12 personnel, one back two tight ends,
with spread elements from Kingsbury's background incorporated.
That will showcase Daniels' field vision and anticipatory skills from the pocket.
The rookie quarterback can also work off run pass options, RPO, and be used situational.
on designed rushes where he has the speed to cut through defensive angles.
By the way, in watching a little bit of rookie minicamp today,
they had him under center for some of the snaps.
I'm curious to see how much under center versus shotgun
by the time we get to real games in September.
Today, by the way, big turnout at mini-camp, the expectations this year because they drafted a quarterback number two overall.
There was a lot more media than in previous years for rookie minicamp.
Johnny Newton, the team's second round pick, the first of three second round picks, was in a boot.
He will not participate in rookie minicamp.
He is recovering from a fracture.
But the expectation is he'll be fine by the time we get to training camp.
One other quick thing that I wanted to touch on here in the open,
and that is the quarterback that got picked right before Jaden Daniels, of course, is Caleb Williams.
By the way, number 13, his college number is being worn by Keenan Allen,
and will continue to be worn by Keenan Allen.
Caleb Williams is going to wear number 18, which,
which was his number at Gonzaga. Caleb Williams is going to wear number 18. But that's not why I'm
bringing up Caleb Williams. I'm bringing him up because today, first day of rookie mini-camp in Lake
Forest, Illinois, the Bears rookie mini-camp, head coach Matt Everflus, wasted no time in naming Caleb Williams
Chicago's starting quarterback. Quote, no conversation. He's the starter.
closed quote. So there you go. I don't think that's a big surprise. And to be fair, the situations
in Chicago and Washington aren't identical. Their backup quarterback is Tyson Badgant. I think he's the
quarterback that went to Shepard College, right? Up in West Virginia, I'm pretty sure he's the one that
went to Shepard. They also have Brett Rippin. So there's nothing really approximated.
Marcus Mariotta. Not that Mariotta's a starting quarterback. And the other thing, too, is
Chicago's roster is just much better. Like the expectations in Chicago with, you know, with quarterback
play being, you know, solid enough with Caleb Williams as a rookie, is for them to compete for a
wild card spot in the NFC. I mean, they've got DJ Moore, they've got Keenan Allen, they've got Cole
Commet. They added DeAndre Swift in the backfield.
They've got, you know, a good offensive line. They remember, you know, traded for and then signed
Montez Sweat. They have Tremaine Edmins. They've, they've got, you know, they've got a roster
that looks ready to compete for, you know, eight, nine, ten wins, maybe, depending on how well
Caleb Williams plays. I mean, they did not give Justin Fields these kind of weapons. But DJ
more Keenan Allen, Cole Comette, and DeAndre Swift for Caleb Williams, and a pretty
decent offensive line. They added Shane Waldron as the offensive coordinator. Chicago will be
one of those interesting teams. But, you know, that NFC North with Detroit and Green Bay,
pretty strong division. Minnesota, you know, will likely start Sam Darnold or J.J. McCarthy,
depending on how it goes. So they might take a bit of a step back with the quarterback
play that they've had, you know, in previous years until you know who tore his Achilles,
but Chicago wasting no time saying, doesn't matter, rookie or not, he ain't sitting, he's playing.
He's the starter from the jump. All right, when we come back, I am going to get into the Jersey
conversation a little bit. It'll also lead to a punter conversation, which I was not anticipating
having until I got to it on radio this morning.
That and more right after these words from a few of our sponsors.

I was just kind of noticing, you know, like a lot of excitement, a lot of things building around the building.
And, you know, I couldn't help but notice our first-round pick.
I mean, he sported a certain number through college.
You're going to bless them with it.
Well, a lot of people have been asking, and I just thought maybe it was a good place to make an announcement.
And, yeah, I'm going to give them five.
Truss Way last night announcing that the jersey he's worn for 10 years as a Washington Redskin,
Washington football team player, and Washington commander is going to the rookie.
Number five will be worn by Jaden Daniels.
Tressway hasn't picked out his new number yet.

So we'll do some Jersey talk and maybe even a little punter talk, all right?
Because Tressway announced last night that he is giving up.
He's number five to Jaden Daniels, which is the number Jaden Daniels has worn, I think at every level, including high school.
He was emotional about it as well, and I'll get to that, and you'll hear that in a moment.
So let me just start with this, because I gave it some thought last night.
Tress Way is not only the greatest number five in franchise history.
he's the greatest punter in franchise history.
Now, Jeff Hayes, who was a Super Bowl champion punter in 1982, he wore number five,
but he's nowhere near the punter trestway was, although Jeff Hayes, for those of you who remember,
was really athletic, and they ran a number of fake punts with him because he was fast.
But Trace had a much longer and a much better career statistically.
than Jeff Hayes had.
Actually, the guy that you could argue was the franchise's best punter,
if you're not going to go Tressaway, would be Sammy Baugh.
You can make that case, but really, I think when you look at the numbers,
Tressway is the best punter in franchise history.
And his tenure has something to do with it.
He's a two-time pro bowler.
he is a two-time second-team all-pro.
Reggie Robey when he was here,
Reggie Robey, one of the greatest punters in NFL history,
he was only here for two years towards the end of his career.
He was a first-team all-pro and pro bowler in 1994,
but he was only here for two years.
Matt Turk was also a first-team all-pro back in 1996,
but neither one of those two guys had
the longevity or the consistency that Tressway had here as a punter.
Now, let me be clear.
Tressway 10 years here, pro bowler twice, second team all pro twice.
But he's nowhere near.
I had a caller tell me Tressway's a Hall of Famer today.
I mean, he was obviously off.
Tressway is nowhere near being a Hall of Famer.
Like he's not in the conversation of like the top 30 or 40.
punters of all time. There's only one punter in the Hall of Fame, and it's Ray Guy.
But, you know, for this franchise, which hasn't had a lot of great punters, I think
Tress Way is the best punter in franchise history. And I think he's also the greatest to
ever wear number five. It's not Heath Shuler. It's not Donovan McNabb. It's not Kurt Knight.
For you people who remember the first team that went to a Super Bowl, the 72 skins,
Kurt Knight number five was the kicker.
Brett Conway was number five, but none of those guys rise to the level of trustway.
He's the greatest number five in franchise history.
And I bring that up because, you know, giving up the number was not something he had to do.
A decade of being the most consistent good thing about this football team on the field,
which I think you could make the case that that's true, allows him,
some decision-making as it relates to whether or not to give up his jersey number for a rookie
who's not played one down.
I think part of the awareness on Tressway's part, and you're going to hear his discussion,
a very emotional discussion about it here in a moment.
But what is true about Tressway's tenure here is while you could make the case he was the best thing about this team the last.
10 years. There just wasn't much good about this team the last 10 years. The record of the team
during his 10 years here, 64, 97, and 2, 33 games below 500. Just so much losing, so much bad
football during his time, even though he's been the most consistent, you know, positive that
we've had. But I think if there were championships, playoff wins, contend,
seasons year after year, you know, it may have actually been one of those situations where the
franchise or even the fans would have screamed, don't do it. You've been a big part of quite a run.
But, you know, I think most are okay with it. I mean, there are some people, Sabah, I and others,
who reached out to me to say, this is not a good sign. Jaden Daniels taking the number five.
And let me be clear on something.
You know, at this point, I'm not sure we know for sure how it all came about if it was truly initiated by Jaden or initiated by Tress or the team.
I think that Jaden Daniels probably asked, but I don't think it was demanding.
I don't think he or his agent said, we really, really want it.
You know, you heard Jaden and you'll hear him again talk.
about being totally aware of Tressway's standing in the organization over the last 10 years.
But, you know, the truth is he didn't have to do it.
This was Tressway after announcing last night on the team's YouTube channel with Smoot and
Santana and Logan and Brian Colbert.
This was him talking about it.
You'll hear Santana asks him a question, and he gets pretty emotional.
about it.
Just talking about it, like being a veteran, being a guy that being one of my pro bowlers
here, I mean, just what you've done throughout the years, did that ever kind of come to you
and say, man, I've done so much in this number?
Yeah.
Should I even consider it?
Yeah.
See, Santana's gonna be the one that's gonna make me emotional.
Let it out.
Yeah.
So, man, I just, I think about, think about the first time I came and...
Why did I do that?
that.
Man,
I was all good at.
We played together, man.
We played together, man.
No, no, man.
And I,
I was,
I was one with Chicago.
I just,
I didn't like it.
I got there,
they gave me one,
and I got picked up here
on the waiver wire.
And it was the first time,
first time I felt wanted.
Like, it was like,
hey, like they picked me.
Yeah.
And I came in,
five was sitting there,
and I was like,
yeah.
I was like, I like that.
Yeah.
So,
it just kind of
this is harder enough thought
it's all good man
but I think
about
I was talking to my wife
and I've been
fortunate enough to been
voted team captain four times
and if I get voted captain
again in my career
that C gets filled in
and I was like man
it's going to be weird
if I give up the number
the first time I get that C filled in
it's going to be a different number
and yeah
And my wife said, why do you have the C, like, in the first place?
Like, what gives you the C?
And full disclosure, I told him no right out the game.
I was like, hey, I'm keeping five.
And it just didn't sit well.
And I talked to AP, talked to DQ, and they were just so cool about it.
And I was like, guys, I don't feel good about it.
I just feel like there's just so much excitement around this organization,
hands down the most I have ever seen.
Like just all of the excitement building and building and building.
And I just feel like this is just a very small part that I could do.
You got a rookie coming in.
Can't imagine what's going on in his head and his heart.
And, you know, I'm there for him on fourth down if we have to give the ball away.
But maybe this is an example.
I could show him, hey, I'm there for you now too.
But yeah, so we'll see.
That's why you're the guy who you are.
I mean, I appreciate that.
You're one of those guys that, hey, I'm there.
that, hey man, I'm going to do this for the team.
Super emotional, Tressaway
was, in talking about giving
up number five to
Jaden Daniels, especially when he was talking
about what his wife said to him,
that the C on his chest,
the captain on his chest when he's
been named team captain
isn't there or wasn't there
because of some jersey number.
You know, it's been about him,
the player, the person,
the leader, the teammate, etc.
This guy's been first class.
since he arrived in town.
He really has been.
I've always found it interesting in listening to him,
and I've had him on the show, I don't know,
once or twice over the years,
probably more than that.
It's been a while, though, it seems like to me.
But I've always found it very impressive how positive he is.
You even heard it in that clip that I just played.
He's just always super optimistic glass half,
positive. And given that he's been here longer than any other player and has been witness to all of
the shenanigans that have gone on here, I mean, most of the players, coaches, people have worked for
the organization who have come and gone, have not been very impressed with their time here,
have not been very positive about their time here. But I think that's always impressive in a
person when they can just stay positive. Look, he's been a good player, so he's had a good
experience from a playing standpoint, and that always helps when you have personal success.
But anyway, impressive all around by Tressaway, and again, he didn't have to do it. By the way,
I don't know what he got for it. It wasn't cash. That's the only thing at this point that's been
reported is that it's not a straight-up cash deal.
I'm sure he's getting something from Jaden in the way of, you know,
appearances for maybe his charity, you know, a suite or tickets for games.
There was the report that Oklahoma LSU that he wants tickets to the first time
his alma mater plays Jaden's alma mater.
This was Jaden Daniels.
So there was more other than just the first comment that Jaden Daniels made.
when he got to the podium. He was asked again about how it kind of came together. Here's what he said.
Yeah, I mean, I said earlier it's significant not only to me, but to him also. So him allowed me to
wear it. It meant a lot, you know, that he was able to kind of just pass it to me, pass the torch,
obviously, with the agreements. But, you know, he didn't have to come off. He didn't have to come
off the number. Obviously, what he did for he's a captain, all pro pro pro pro player. So,
you know, he means a lot to this, to this, to the DMV, to this organization.
So for him to be able to allow me to wear a number of it just shows that he has my back
and, you know, he's excited.
And, you know, that's what we talked about.
And, you know, I'm excited to be his teammate.
Jaden Daniels, you know, recognizing this was quite the, you know, the give from Tressway.
By the way, Diami Brown's number two, gone as well.
Mikey Sanry still has number two.
Diami Brown got his number two taken from him by the team's second second round pick,
the corner from Michigan.
Not totally comparable to Tress and Jaden,
but a second round rookie takes the number of a veteran player.
I wonder whether or not that is a good sign for Diami Brown moving forward.
Who knows?
By the way, just one other thing on this, and then I promise I'll move on.
You know, Tressway is 33 years old.
He's the third highest paid punter in the NFL.
Last year was not his best season.
Now, he was not healthy.
Remember, he had some injury issues.
But I wonder if part of this, no, I shouldn't say that.
I don't wonder whether part of this is about sort of the standing in his career right now.
I think this was just a first-class, you know, move and offer by Tressway.
But what I was going to say was it is true that as the third highest-paid punter in the game,
getting older, how many years does he legitimately have?
Look, if they had had salary cap restraints this year,
it's very possible they would have gone to him for a restructure or perhaps would have waived him.
Who knows? Look, I'm sure he's got some good years left.
Punters, you know, they last a lot longer than other positions.
Punters and kickers do.
But, you know, you never know where he was thinking his career is at this point.
And maybe the importance of this to the organization that Jaden get number five.
But there's been nothing there to suggest that the organization urged him to do it.
it. There's been nothing there that's actually been reported that Jaden Daniels was somehow really
demanding it or requesting it. It just seems like it was an incredibly generous offer by Trusway.
All right, enough of Jersey talk. One other thing from Jaden Daniels, though, today. Remember we
talked about yesterday? The admission from Malik Neighbors, the wide receiver at LSU.
Jaden's teammate in college, and the admission from Jaden Daniels on the Kishon Johnson
podcast, that they had a bet, a $10,000 bet between the two of them, on who would win
offensive rookie of the year.
Well, that bet's been canceled.
This was Jaden today.
Yeah, we were uneducated on the gambling policy in the NFL.
We learned about it last night.
Me and him have a conversation, and, you know, we canceled the bet.
Obviously, we don't want to get in trouble with anything.
So we're just focused on being the best players for our respective teams.
Malik neighbors up in East Rutherford today.
He's a New York giant pick number six overall.
He was asked about it as well, and he said, quote,
I'm educated now that I got here about sports betting and gambling.
So we're calling the bet off.
There is no bet now.
it was just another brother pushing another brother to try to get to success.
That is all it was closed.
There you go.
I think that concludes Malik Neighbors, Jaden Daniels, Betgate, 2024.
All right, we've got other things to get to, including what I don't want to hear from the higher ups in the organization,
specifically the coaching staff now that the work has started in preparation for 2024.
We'll get to that and a lot more right after.
These words from a few of our sponsors.
Hey guys, most of us are interested in our mental and physical well-being to a certain degree.

They've got all the NBA playoff odds. By the way, how about last night? The Celtics first team in 33 years to be a double-digit favorite and to lose outright by more than 20.
They went off at minus 12 and a half against Cleveland in game two and lost by 24.
My bookie's got all of the NFL futures odds up.
How about this?
The NFC East odds.
Cowboys plus 125,
Eagles plus 135 to win the NFC East.
Then it's Washington at plus 750 and the Giants at plus 1,000.
I like the Eagles to win the NFC East.
Right now, I mean, subject to change.
But, you know, they made the changes.
Brian Johnson out,
Kellan Moore in, Sean Desai
out, Vic Fangio in,
Sequin Barkley added
defensively, they added Bryce Huff,
they drafted the two corners.
They also drafted one of my favorite running backs
in the draft, Will Shipley
from Clemson.
I like Philly. You know, it was such a
disappointing ending to the season. I mean, they fell apart.
But a lot of that probably can
be chalked up to a little bit of dysfunction offensively and defensively with the coordinators
that started the year. I mean, one of them's here in Brian Johnson, but they replaced two
coordinators who got head coaching jobs. I like the Eagles to win the NFC East at plus 135.
Those odds are essentially the same. I just think they look like the better team on paper
heading in. MyBooky.ag or MyBooky.com promo code, Kevin.
DC. I had our good friend John Orand from now Puck News on the radio show this morning.
He was the first to report that the double-header Christmas Day games when the schedule gets released next week are going to be on Netflix.
Netflix double-header on Christmas Day Wednesday, 2024.
So you've got Amazon, you've got Peacock, you've got Netflix, you've got YouTube TV for NFL ticket, you see where a lot of this is heading.
I still think the majority of the NFL schedule for the rest of our lifetime, I don't know.
Hopefully we've got a long way to go.
For many, many years to come, will be on broadcast TV.
It'll be on CBS, it'll be on Fox, it'll be on NBC, and, you know, ESPN Disney will have it too.
But there's just too much money being offered by these streaming companies.
And a double-header Christmas Day on Netflix, the Black Friday game will be a peacock game.
And I'm sure next year we will have a playoff game like we did this past year on streaming as well.
Remember the Chief's Dolphins' frigid cold game at Arrowhead.
was on Peacock.
All right, I wanted to, I wanted to mention just a hope here.
All right.
I was on yesterday with Grant and Danny on 1067, The Fan,
and they asked me why there wasn't a lot of buzz on, you know, over the team
in the wake of, you know, a new owner, new GM, new coach, new quarterback.
I actually don't feel that way.
No, I don't feel like it's the RG3, 2012 year.
The organization and its fan base were at a different point back then.
Look, if that's true, and I would say that it's at least partially true,
the damage done, especially over the last five or so years,
is a lot of damage to recover from.
You know, I've mentioned this many times.
You look at the numbers.
Two-thirds of the fan base basically disappeared.
And a lot of them just found something better to do with their time.
And of course, the name issue is an issue.
And a lot say that they're never coming back without the old name or without a change in the name.
You know, that is the way a lot of people feel now.
I don't know if it'll hold up if the team develops into a winner.
maybe at that point they'll contemplate coming back.
But anyway, it got me to thinking just about this new regime and this state of the organization being where we've talked about over the last nine months or whatever it's been since Josh Harris and company took over the team.
It feels like a new day.
Now, there's some complexity to that feeling like we've talked about, but it feels like a new day.
Today was the first day of on-the-field work for this new regime.
First day of on-the-field work in preparation for the first season of this entire new regime,
the first full-off season for ownership and the first season with a new general manager,
new coach, new coaching staff, new quarterback, etc.
And one of the things that I hope we do not hear,
and it starts tomorrow, because Dan,
Quinn will speak tomorrow, either before or after, the mini-camp day.
I want them to hopefully have an awareness level of what's taken place over the years in this city
with respect to this football team during the off-season.
You know, I've called it, you know, over the years, over-promising and under-delivering.
They have been the kings of overselling, overpromising, and it's just been one of the real annoyances of the organization over the past many years.
I don't want this new regime to make that same mistake.
I know there is excitement out there.
And I also know they got to pitch their wares.
You know, they got season ticket sales.
They've got suites.
They've got club seats.
They've got corporate sponsorships to sell.
There is a level of trying to sell because they have to sell now.
You know, they have tickets to sell.
But I don't want to hear how great Jaden Daniels looks from coaches.
I don't mind these rookies talking in glowing terms about him.
I don't want to be promised anything.
I want to be shown.
in September when the real games begin.
I don't need to hear how great Brandon Coleman's looking
and how, wow, we really got ourselves a guy that's going to be around for a while
and is going to help us big time.
I don't want to hear about how great Dorrance Armstrong looks
and how the pass rush and the turnover machine that Dan Quinn's defenses have had
in recent years is going to be turned on.
I don't want to hear any of that.
I want to hear everybody's working hard,
everybody's coming along,
we've got a long way to go.
Long way to go.
A lot of new faces,
a lot of new things to implement.
We won't know for sure until we start playing games.
You know, it's okay to be, you know,
Jaden's coming along, he's putting in the work.
But don't sell me and don't promise.
promise me on what he's going to be.
Show me.
Just too many years, you know, from March and, you know, through August, of being sold and just
then getting the absolute crap that we've gotten during the season.
Still my favorite line when it comes to this is Doc's line.
When he said several years ago, he was frustrated on some Monday.
day after a blowout loss and he just came in and he just started screaming about the marketing
machine they were in the offseason. And he said, nobody, nobody does Monday through Saturday
better than this organization. Sundays are the problem. So tonight in the NBA playoffs,
it's kind of do or die for Denver. Right. They are down two games to nothing against the
upstart Minnesota Timberwolves. I actually can't wait to watch this game. I'm sure Tommy will be glued to it.
Minnesota is a three and a half point favorite, by the way. But they do have Jamal Murray,
despite what he did the other day and the lack of any sort of contrition was off-putting for sure.
But can the defending champs get themselves off the mat and get...
