Starting point is 00:00:02 You don't want it. You don't need it. But you're going to get it anyway. The Kevin Sheehan Show. He is Kevin. Tommy's here. I'm here. The show's presenting sponsor is always Window Nation.
Starting point is 00:00:15 86690 Nation, windownation.com. If you need new windows. Tommy, this comes from Denny in Darnstown. That's actually real. You know how Doc used to always, when he would take calls or he would, talk about a call.
Starting point is 00:00:34 He would always refer to Lewin Landover. That was his go-to. I don't think Lou and Landover actually really existed. Denny and Darnstown really exists. And Denny writes on the topic of Tom the Rocket Launch Watcher, would either one of you go up in one? Would you? No.
Starting point is 00:00:57 And I don't think that's just because I'm an old man. I don't think there's any point in my life unless I was drunk where I wouldn't have gone up in a rocket. Unless you were, you know, leaving cars on church grounds with lost keys. Yeah, anything was possible at those moments. So Tom's been watching a bunch of rocket launches down in Cocoa Beach, and you're having a good time doing that. It seems to be that there's one like every night or every other night. I mean, what, what?
Starting point is 00:01:28 I mean, this guy is quarter and up. the space with all kinds of satellites, musk is. Is it all SpaceX? Yes. Oh, it's not NASA? All of them. No, they're all SpaceX shots. He's got one on Sunday, again.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Now, in February, you know, these are all unmanned. In February, there's a man flight going up. They don't have a date yet. It's just a February. Isn't Jeff Bezos taking people up with him? Blue origin or something like that or blue something, his name of his company. You know, it's some debate as to what space really is. Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:10 In terms of what? When you reach it? Like when there's zero gravity? I think there's been some debate as to whether he's really going up to space or just kind of like on the perimeter of it. Yeah, you know, so there was, um, I'm, trying to pull it up right now. I know that Katie Perry went up on one of these things and she was with some other stars and I can't remember. I think it was like the original of the Jeff Bezos flying people into space and Katie Perry was doing the American Idol show. So this, I don't know if she still does it anymore.
Starting point is 00:02:51 And I don't watch. I haven't watched that show in years. But I saw that she was, here it is. April of 2025, so within the last year. Blue Origin, Tommy, you're correct. Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin Rocket sent an all-female space tourism flight up, and it included Katie Perry, Lauren Sanchez, Gail King. Gail King's that news anchor on CBS, right? Yes. Bezos's fiancé.
Starting point is 00:03:27 Oh, that's Lauren Sanchez. Yeah, I guess it was just them. And I kept thinking to myself, really? They're all just going to jump on Jeff Bezos's rocket and go up there? I wouldn't do that. No way. I wouldn't do it either. No.
Starting point is 00:03:45 So maybe if it's- Absolutely not. I've had enough Amazon deliveries go bad that I wouldn't get on a rocket. Yeah, most of them go pretty well, though, I have to say. Yes, they do. I wouldn't do it. I mean, but what you just referenced, and I'm looking at, like, video of this, like, there is, you know, they're floating around, so they got up to a certain level where they could float around, but maybe it's just a little bit higher than, you know, a normal, you know, 747 would fly. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:04:18 I don't, to answer your question, Denny and Darnstown, I wouldn't do it. I have zero interest, and I would be fearful, actually. I'm not a big heights guy to begin with. Like, I don't like, you know, standing on, you know, the Empire State building and looking out over the edge or, you know, any of those things. I don't do well with heights. It's not like I'm frightened by heights. I can drive over bridges and everything else. I don't have that kind of an issue.
Starting point is 00:04:45 I'll tell you what I don't mind, though, Tommy. I like speed. Like, I like driving fast. if somebody gave me the opportunity to jump in as a passenger in, you know, in an indie car, you know, going 200 or, you know, a NASCAR vehicle going, you know, 200 miles per hour, I would, I would enjoy that. I think I would really enjoy that and get a major rush out of it. I like driving fast. I think we've had that conversation in the past. But that's on the ground.
Starting point is 00:05:19 I don't, I can't see myself doing that. No, I wouldn't, I, I don't particularly like speak. The heights thing, have you always been kind of wary of heights? Yeah, it's not, it's not like a gripping fear by any stretch. I didn't say fear, I said just wary of that. Yes, yes, for sure. Okay, now this is something that's happened to me with age. I mean, I never gave it two thoughts about going up on top of the Empire State Building or anything like that.
Starting point is 00:05:49 with when I was younger, but I noticed, like, in the past maybe 10 years, if heights, I get kind of a queasy, a little queasy. Queasy is it you feel nauseous? You feel sick to your stomach, or do you get dizzy? Do you get, you know, what? A little bit mentally queasy, I guess. But, again, in control, but just, you know,
Starting point is 00:06:15 I didn't give it two thoughts before, but that's come with age for me. Yeah, I think like, I'm trying to think, because for whatever reason, like recently I was somewhere where we were on a very, I think it was in New York at a, at actually like a bar restaurant, we were way up high and there was, you know, there was a deck and you could look over it. And I mean, I can do that, but not just sit there and stare and be mesmerized. I get to the point where I start thinking, my God, that would be a long way down. that would be a long, long way to fall. Yeah. You've been to the Grand Canyon? Yes, I've been to the Grand Canyon.
Starting point is 00:06:59 That's spectacular. I feel in those situations, I definitely feel even more. It's not queasy. I get a little bit off balance, and I'm like, whoa, and I've got to step back a little bit. You lose your perspective. Yes. A little bit. But at least...
Starting point is 00:07:18 But I never went out. When I was at the Grand Canyon twice, I think, I've been there. And I don't think they had the area where you could walk out on the plexiglass. Right. Out over the canyon. I'm remembering where I wouldn't do that. I'm remembering where I was recently. So we were in Mexico City over the summer.
Starting point is 00:07:40 That was, we took a vacation there, loved it, by the way. And we were in, we went to the very top. of a building where a restaurant was. And they're just big open windows in these little kind of coves where they had tables and you could sit right next to the window. Now, these were, everything was enclosed. But I remember just looking through the window as we were way up there. And I'm like, yeah, I'm going to sit over here. I'm not going to be right there.
Starting point is 00:08:12 And I would also mention that I just finished reading. And this is maybe I told you about this. You know, Mexico City has earthquakes. They've had some of the biggest earthquakes. Oh, yeah. And there's this, and I think it's September 19th. I'm just checking on that. Mexico's, they've had like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:34 So it's September 19th, I remembered the date. They've had their two major earthquakes of all time, 85, and then I think it's 2017. both happened on September 19th. And then they had one, I think it's 2022. This is from my memory of kind of reading about it when I was in Mexico City over the summer. I think 2022, September 19th, they do, they actually do exercises every year on September 19th, earthquake, you know, prevention, you know, how to do it. And on September 19th, 2020, during the nationwide,
Starting point is 00:09:15 you know, September 19th remembrance, but also the exercise is associated with earthquake prevention. There was another rattler. Not one of the biggest ones, but a pretty sizable one. But the 85 Mexico City earthquake, which I'm
Starting point is 00:09:31 pulling up right now, $5 billion worth of damage, $40,000 dead, 30,000 injured. But it's just, it's complete coincidence. There's nothing about the time of year or anything else. It's just that September 19th has been, yeah, here's the thing
Starting point is 00:09:52 about the earthquake drill in, in 20, okay, in 2017, barely an hour after the earthquake drill. This was 2017, a 7.1 earthquake hit killing nearly 400. Now, that's a lot less than what happened in 1985. But anyway, the reason I brought it up is I just kind of been mesmerized by the September 19th earthquake thing in Mexico City. And I'm sitting at the top of this building right next to the window. And I'm like, yeah, what would happen? I'm sure these buildings are fortified and they're safe. But what if there was a big one right now? And we're kind of out on this cove in this restaurant, in this, you know, isolated, you know, table right next to the glass. I said, no, we're going to back off this one.
Starting point is 00:10:44 That would be a long way to go. That'd be a terrible way to go. My oldest goes to Mexico City a lot on business, which is why he was the one that kind of talked us into. You guys have to come here. It's spectacular. It really is. So much different.
Starting point is 00:11:00 You know, the cartel's not in Mexico City anymore. There's no danger in that city anymore. And some of the, it's probably. one of the best food cities in the world. But, yeah, wouldn't go up in a rocket. Not Elon's, not Jeff Bezos's, not anybody's. I think I've got into rockets when I was a little kid when they had them outside shopping. Yeah, I've been into the whatever Apollo that was that's in the Air and Space Museum,
Starting point is 00:11:31 the one that you can kind of walk through the cockpit. I've been in that one. Yeah, I've been in those rockets. Yeah. Oh, man. All right. So there's a lot going on today, but nothing, you know, super urgent. The stadium renderings for the new stadium at RFK are out, probably seen it. I'm assuming many of you have seen it already or seen them. We'll get to that. I did want to just mention that I spent
Starting point is 00:12:01 some time yesterday, Tommy, on the show, talking about Brian Flores. And as of now, there's no you know, news with Brian Flores. He is interviewed for the Baltimore job, apparently interviewed today with Pittsburgh. He interviewed with our team yesterday for the available defensive coordinator job. And yesterday I said on the show that I'd be very surprised if he left Minnesota for anything other than a head coaching opportunity. But I also said he'd be my number one. Like that would be a massive home run for Dan Quinn, for Adam Peters, for the organization.
Starting point is 00:12:44 I'm starting to think I had Charles, Paul Chartian on radio today. I'm starting to think that there's a chance he leaves Minnesota if he doesn't get a head coaching job. There's a lot with him, apparently, a lot of, you know, that's difficult about him. And he kind of, you know, wears out as welcome. Obviously, we know about the racial discrimination lawsuit that he's still involved in with the league after the Miami head coaching experience. We know what Ryan Fitzpatrick said about him, not that long ago said that essentially he turned into a dictator in Miami and alienated everybody around him. So there may be a shelf life to Brian Flores. and maybe, you know, that expiration date is, you know, now in Minnesota.
Starting point is 00:13:38 And if he's looking for a new place and he doesn't get a head coaching job, there are options, but Washington's a good option. Because you've got a quarterback here. Defensive coordinators should absolutely think about what the offense looks like because you'd rather be, you know, scheming up with a 10-point lead than a 10-point deficit weekend in. week out. The head coach is a defensive head coach, but I think really wants to be a CEO head coach, which is kind of what he's been until taking over the play calling from Joe Whit Jr.
Starting point is 00:14:13 You know, before the game with the dolphins in Madrid. So I think there's a chance. I think there's a chance. And I'm telling you, Tommy, be a home run higher because he's elevated. Church was telling me, and I talked about this on the podcast, just about the three teams he's had in Minnesota, the 20-23 team in particular, just had very little talent. And he is a more out of less coach. He gets the most out of a little. And this team doesn't have a lot on defense. They're going to try to change that in this offseason. They need to try to change that in this offseason.
Starting point is 00:14:56 but they need a schemer. They need a play caller, a coordinator, and they can make a difference, you know, and he's made a difference in Minnesota. That team this year, they won their last five games. They were dominant defensively, not just against Washington, which we saw. They won their last five games. Defensively, they were really, really good. Their issue this year was quarterback and offense.
Starting point is 00:15:26 That team would have won another 12 games with average quarterback play because of how good their defense was. Finished third DVOA, third in yards per game. Man, that would really be a huge boon to this offseason if they made that happen. I hope Josh is willing to pay whatever it takes to get him because, you know, this won't be the only place that would want him, no matter what kind of baggage comes with him. He's just very good. You know what? They could use the money they saved on the offensive coordinator to hire him.
Starting point is 00:16:04 We don't even know what they paid, Blow, do we? Oh, I think we know they paid him less than they would have paid Mike McDaniel. True. Yeah. Okay. So they could use that money. I guess today I'm just feeling a little bit more like there's actually a chance. that that could happen.
Starting point is 00:16:27 And now you're talking about, all right, let's focus on getting, you know, three or four, five new players, you know, four to five, you know, the bench, depth, hope that, you know, your quarterback stays up, upright for 17. The receiver's not in a, you know, in a foul mood over the summer and is, is part of it. Add another playmaker, maybe two playmakers, and let's go get after it. because I'll tell you what, I would be so excited to see what that defense looks like next year. Even with the players, look, no one was going to take the players this year
Starting point is 00:17:02 and make a whole hell of a lot out of it, especially when they got to practice, you know, squad level players. That's almost impossible to overcome. But it wouldn't have been as bad as it was with Joe Witt. It wouldn't have been as bad as it was with Quinn at times down the stretch. It would be a home run, definitely. be massive. So I wanted to just, you know, add to my Brian Flores stuff from yesterday with that. It'll be interesting to see what happens again. Maybe he gets a head coaching job.
Starting point is 00:17:36 Church also told me, Minnesota fans would be absolutely sideways upset and angry if they don't keep Brian Flores. I said this yesterday that I think Minnesota fans might be in that spot where they'd rather elevate him to the head coach spot and say goodbye to Kevin. O'Connell. That sounds nuts, but that's how great he's been in Minnesota. The other story from the end of the show yesterday is that John Harbaugh appears to be on the verge of taking the New York Giants job. You know, Schaefter had it. They're apparently finalizing plans for him to become the new head coach in New York. And I was thinking about this, Tommy. With John Harbaugh, in New York, and they finally now have, you know, a coach. I mean, after a long stretch of bad coaches following Tom Coughlin, who was, you know,
Starting point is 00:18:34 outstanding as a head coach. But I bet you there would be people that would say the Giants just elevated themselves into that number two spot in the NFC East behind Philadelphia. Because the Eagles are still, no matter what kind of issue. they're having and they got an AJ Brown issue, you know, after the way he played against the 49ers. But they still have an incredible front office. They, you know, identify and acquire talent in the best way. And they're still extremely talented. So they're still number one in the division. But I bet you a lot of people with Harbaugh going to New York with Jackson Dart would put the Giants in that number two slot in terms of the best overall situations in the division.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Would you buy that? No, that would be a Harbaugh overreaction. Let's say the two most important figures on your team or your quarterback and your coach, I would give the Giants the edge over Washington in the coaching measurement there, John Harbaugh over Dan Quinn, but the margin. would not be that great. And I would give Washington a significant margin a quarterback with Jane Daniels over Jackson Dart.
Starting point is 00:20:04 And that margin would put Washington ahead of New York in my mind. I totally agree with that. Totally agree with that. But let me just take it in a slightly different way because I like John Harbaugh, and I think John Harbaugh has been a really good NFL coach, obviously, 18 years in the same place. You know, a Super Bowl,
Starting point is 00:20:28 just one. Let me just remind everybody. Just one Super Bowl. You know, a win over his brother, didn't even get to another Super Bowl, and certainly was favored a few times to get to a Super Bowl and didn't get it done. I think he's a really good coach,
Starting point is 00:20:46 but I don't think the Giants just hired Lombardi or Walsh or Gibbs or Parcells or. or Belichick. I just don't. You know, I don't personally consider Harbaugh or Tomlin anywhere near that class of coach that I just mentioned. I think they both, I think Tomlin definitely has a chance to be in the Hall of Fame. And I don't know about Harbaugh. Harbaugh's playoff record is better than Tomlin's. We can have that conversation at another time. I like Harbaugh. I'm not
Starting point is 00:21:20 blown away by Harbaugh. I mean, I take him over probably three quarters of the coaches in the league, you know, but not every coach in the league. He's not in my top three or four or five in the league, and I am not. Would he be the best coach in the NFC East? I mean, his resume says he'd be the best coach in the NFC East, although Nick Siriani's resume is pretty good right now, but I would never say, that Nick Siriani's the best coach. So I think Harbaugh does become the best coach in the NFC East, automatically. I think that's fair based on his resume, no doubt.
Starting point is 00:22:03 But, you know, even in today's game, like, I'm not taking John Harbaugh, all due respect over Sean McVay, over Kyle Shanahan, over Andy Reid, over let me think about this over Sean Peyton I would take Sean Peyton over I need to go through the standings here to pull the coaches
Starting point is 00:22:32 over his brother I wouldn't take him over his brother Oh I wouldn't And then you've got some of these young coaches like Mike McDonald in Seattle Ben Johnson in Chicago I'll tell you what, I wouldn't take him over of Rabel. No way.
Starting point is 00:22:55 I love Rabel. I've always loved Rabel. He's not, the arrival of John Harbaugh in New York is not putting the Giants into this, you know, this high level, they're going to be in a Super Bowl in two or three years before any of the other NFC East teams not named Philadelphia. I don't see that.
Starting point is 00:23:20 The other part of it is I'm just not a Jackson Dart fan. It's too early to come to any conclusion. But I saw somebody tweet this out. You know, Harbaugh wanted to meet Jackson Dart and Maris said to Harbaugh, he's in the blue tent, which is where he's been all season long. Almost every game he ends up in the blue tent. I wasn't a huge fan of him coming out. I thought he was more of a creation of Lane Kiffin.
Starting point is 00:23:47 and Kiffin's scheme and play calling. But, you know, we don't know about quarterbacks. It's impossible at this point. The Giants would not be number two behind Philadelphia for me. Washington would be number two in the NFC East behind Philadelphia, still because they would have, I still think, the quarterback that would be the most desirable in the division to have next year and beyond. I would put Dallas
Starting point is 00:24:20 number two. I think their roster is still that much stronger than Washington's. And I think Dak Prescott is you can't ignore his production. We may think
Starting point is 00:24:33 Jane Daniels will be better, but until he's got some production, some consistent record of production, you can't put him ahead of Dak. I'm just telling you that if you gave me the choice, If you gave me the choice in 2026 and beyond,
Starting point is 00:24:51 quarterbacks in the division, Jaden's number one for me. And then it would probably be Dack and then hurts. But Jaden would be number one. I mean, Dak Prescott's 10 years into his career, let's not forget that he's missed basically three of his 10 seasons with serious injury, which completely derailed the Cowboys' years every time they lost him, which speaks to how good he is.
Starting point is 00:25:17 I'm not a believer in Dak Prescott as an, like I don't describe him ever in conversations about, you know, Prescott and where he ranks as elite. I know that he had a phenomenal season this year, and he's had some really, really good seasons. There's, he's top 10ish. He's not top 5ish, not for me. Okay. Okay. I think a lot of people are excited in New York. And you know what? After their list of coaches, you know, the McAdoo's and the Spags and the,
Starting point is 00:25:59 the Shermers and the Dables, I mean, Daibble was probably the best out of all of them as a head coach. He took him to the playoffs and they won a game with Daniel Jones that in 2022, when he had his best year before this year, before getting hurt. But man, if you've been out in that, think about how good Tom Coughlin was. I mean, the Giants were one of the best franchises, a two-time recent Super Bowl winner,
Starting point is 00:26:28 a playoff team, a well-run, a highly respected franchise. Coughlin leaves after the 2015 season, and they have been garbage for a decade. That franchise fell a lot further than anyone would have ever predicted, because nobody would have looked at the at the Maras and said it's going to fall apart. That was predictable, obviously, with Dan Snyder here, but not there.
Starting point is 00:26:58 They've gone since Coughlin. McAdoo went to the playoffs his first year, and then Daibble went in 22. Two playoff seasons in 10 years, one playoff win. Doesn't come close to the run that Washington had. But man, they were a run. recent two-time Super Bowl champion and good. They had the quarterback, I think they did, in Eli Manning, and they had a coach. Tom Coughlin, he's not in the Hall of Fame, right?
Starting point is 00:27:29 No. I don't know if he is or not. I don't think he is. I don't think so. I don't think he is. I'm looking, no, he's not in the Hall of Fame. He's a two-time Super Bowl champion, and he's not in the Hall of Fame. His overall record, Tommy, is barely above 500.
Starting point is 00:27:51 That's the reason. He's 170 and 150, a 531 winning percentage. But remember, he took Jacksonville in their second season after expansion to the AFC championship game, where they lost to Parcells and New England. Bill Parcells was coaching New England that year. That's right. This is all so interesting Pardell
Starting point is 00:28:20 Yeah And Coughlin Yeah Here's something that I read on social media I wish I could credit somebody with it But I forgot who posted it No coach has everyone Super Bowls with two different teams
Starting point is 00:28:33 Say that again No coach Has everyone a Super Bowl With two different teams Really Parcells went to a Super Bowl with the Patriots and lost. Vermil. Oh, he didn't win it in Philly.
Starting point is 00:28:52 Went to the Super Bowl and lost. Shula? No, Shula lost with the Colts. He lost in Baltimore. Mike Holmgren lost in Seattle, right, in Green Bay. Right. Reves. No, Reeves didn't win it. Reeves never won a Super Bowl. He went to the Super Bowl with three different teams, Denver, Atlanta, and the Giants, right? I believe, no, no, he didn't go with the Giants.
Starting point is 00:29:19 Oh, when they played the Ravens. It was some fossil. Fossil, Fossil was the coach. Yeah. You're right. Andy Reed. That's an interesting number. So that holds true.
Starting point is 00:29:32 The Giants aren't going to any Super Bowls anytime, aren't going to win any Super Bowls anytime soon. Sean Payton might change that this year. Yeah, he might. I don't think so. I don't think Denver's going to win it, but it's pretty wide open. that's pretty wild. I would have said that, like, if you would pose that as a true or false,
Starting point is 00:29:54 I would have said that's false without even having anybody come to mind that was accurate right away. But some of the names that we mentioned, I would have thought, but then I think about it and I realize that they weren't. Parcells, yeah, Parcells got to another Super Bowl with New England, never got to a Super Bowl with Dallas. And Gibbs, of course, never. Gibbs would have been the one had he gone somewhere else. But, you know, I wonder how, like, legendary coaches like Parcells for giant fans, how they dealt with him being the head coach in New England, how they dealt with him being the head coach in Dallas.
Starting point is 00:30:39 I can't imagine. I can't envision for the life of me. Joe Gibbs coaching the Dallas Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles, or the New York Giants. That just, that image isn't possible. And yet the Giants, and that's where Parcells won a Super Bowl and is an all-time legend, he coached in two other places,
Starting point is 00:31:05 and the teams were really good when he coached them. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, what, I don't remember, What did Packer fans think of Lombardi coaching the Redskins? You know, I don't remember. I don't remember. So I guess Coughlin, am I right?
Starting point is 00:31:31 No, Shanahan. Shanahan, Coughlin, and Flores. I think Flores is in. Oh, Flores is in now. Right, right. Yeah, I think Flores is in. He got in, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:46 I mean, double check, but I guess. think he got in. I think Mike is a Hall of Fame coach, but... So do I. But Coughlin, man. I mean, who knew when he left the Giants that it would be an absolute train wreck? Although I'm looking at his, you know, overall career. In the last three years in New York, there were seven and nine, six and ten, six and ten.
Starting point is 00:32:11 So it was time. You know, and at that point, he was four seasons removed from the 2011 Super Bowl. All right, we got other things to get to. This segment of the show brought you by My Booky. My Booky's offering all of my listeners a 50% cash bonus when you either sign up for the first time
Starting point is 00:35:28 or you go back as an existing customer and you make a new deposit. Now, for those that don't know what a 50% cash bonus means, it means that whatever you deposit, let's just call it $200, my bookie will take 50% of that and add it to your account. So you'll have the $200 that you deposited and then they'll add another $100 into your account. You'll have $300 in your account. Whatever you deposit, 50% of that will be added to your account in the form of a bonus. I don't know why those of you who wager, those of you who are betting, I don't know why you wouldn't take the free money, even if you're betting at another shop. I mean, you should have more than just one place where you are betting if you're doing this right.
Starting point is 00:36:18 I've talked about that a lot. You shouldn't just take the numbers wherever you're betting as, you know, the numbers that you'll accept. You have to find the best number. If there's a plus three and a half out there in a game in which you like the underdog, that's better than plus three or plus two and a half. The pricing is very important. It adds up. Instead of paying minus 117 on a loss, MyBooky is going to charge you minus 110. It adds up over time.
Starting point is 00:36:48 But you want the best numbers, the best pricing, and why not take the free money? Go to mybooky.com or mybooky.orgie.org. And when you get there, you have to use my promo code. It's DC Reload. D-C-R-E-L-O-A-D, D-C-R-E-L-L-A-D, D-C-R-Lod at MyBooky.com. or mybooky.orgie.ag. So I'm assuming that many of you have seen the renderings, the drawings from the architectural group of what the new stadium in D.C.
Starting point is 00:37:25 will look like on the RFK site when it opens in 2030. I loved the pictures. I loved the renderings. I'll just tell you this, Tommy. I think it's cool, but I'm not like doing cartels. wheels over this. It's so down the road for me. And I know I've said this before and I've said this very facetiously. I mean, I'm not being serious because I know I'll love football. But sometimes I'm like, I don't know what I'll actually enjoy four or five years from now. It may not be
Starting point is 00:37:59 football. It may not be. You know what? I think we'll be doing this podcast, knock on wood. You know, hopefully we'll be here doing the podcast. Oh, boy, yes. But I'm also not. not, you know, at this point in my life, I don't go to a lot of games. I don't enjoy going to games. I used to. I used to love it. I still go to a key Maryland basketball game here or there, not many of them this year. And, you know, I've been to a couple of Washington games the last couple of years, but not many. And yes, it'll be different downtown. It'll be, you know, a domed stadium, and it looks like it'll be beautiful. But it just seems so far out there.
Starting point is 00:38:39 for me. You need to think beyond the football. Think of all the events that are evolving there. You know? I mean, all the things that normally you wouldn't have in D.C. So, I mean, I think it's very exciting. And I like the drawings. I like the idea of trying to create the illusion of being outside
Starting point is 00:39:03 while you're inside with the translucent roof. And plenty of natural light. Yes. Yes. So I think it's great. I think people are pumped up about it, except they, you know, they've got to wait three more years of going back to that dump before it opens. I think it's eternity. That's a lifetime.
Starting point is 00:39:33 I know. I think it's great, too. I think what I'm feeling is not like a lot of excitement over it. Like I'm much more interested in Brian Flores right now than the stadium, you know, drawings. You know, I've talked about this going back to the end of last year that the possibility exists of the most meaningful games of the last, you know, 30 years, the stadiums, you know, coming up on year 3rd. 30 that's ever been played in Landover over the next over these final four seasons. Today on radio, my producer Max and I, I put the over under for playoff games at Northwest Stadium before they move back to DC in 2030 at two and a half.
Starting point is 00:40:30 And I think that's probably the right number, but it also means really that they'd almost have to win three division titles the final four years to guarantee at least one home game to get to three if you bet over. But you can play home games even if you're a lower-seated team depending on how the playoffs go. But yeah, I just, I'm more interested in the team now, the games, and when we get there, although you said something that does excite me, and that is what it's going to do for the city and what it'll do for that area and the economic, you know, opportunities
Starting point is 00:41:07 and the big events. We'll have a Super Bowl in Washington, my guess is within eight years. You know, 2031, 2032, 233, something like that, we'll end up having a Super Bowl in Washington, D.C. in that stadium. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:25 I think you're right. I mean, it opens up all sorts of possibilities. It's just you've got to wait so long for it to happen. You are going to be so pumped when the 2031 Women's World Cup comes to town. That is a big event. So Josh Harris put out a statement. We haven't heard from him since the season ended about the season, but we just heard from him today on LinkedIn.
Starting point is 00:41:56 He put together a statement, and I'll read it to you, about these stadium renderings. Incredibly excited to unveil the first renderings of our reimagined next generation home for the Washington commanders. Not only will this be the loudest stadium in the NFL, but it will set the standard for the fan experience at every level, from the food and the visuals to the sight lines and proximity to the action.
Starting point is 00:42:27 This arena will be a home worthy of, the commanders, a venue that represents the best of our nation's capital and the beginning of an incredible new neighborhood in D.C., bringing thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in economic activity to our city. Thanks to our amazing team led by Mark Klaus, Mark is the new team president, and our partners at HKS, Inc., that's the architectural firm. They did, so-fi, they did U.S. Bank in Minneapolis. Thank you to our amazing team led by Mark Klaus and our partners at HKS for helping us reach this milestone. This is deeply personal. RFK is where my connection to this team first took shape and where many of my earliest and most meaningful memories as a fan were made.
Starting point is 00:43:15 I'm committed to making this vision a reality and bringing that same sense of excitement and pride to our next generation of fans. The best is you. yet to come, exclamation point. Hashtag H TTC. C. Yeah. Just in case you had any doubt about the name.
Starting point is 00:43:41 Next generation home for the Washington commanders, this arena will be a home worthy of the commanders. He says he's committed to making this a vision and reality and bringing that same sense of excitement and pride to our next generation of fans.
Starting point is 00:44:01 Hashtag HTC. Speaking of the owner and press conferences, apparently, you know, I can't say I'm, unfortunately, I wasn't well-versed in this. I don't think the owners always do press conferences. No. Bishotti, Bishotti's press conference the other day was the first since, like, 20,
Starting point is 00:44:23 I forget it's 2018 or something like that. 2018 or something like that, yeah. Yeah, but it was a killer press conference, too. Oh, he's a, he, if you don't like Steve Bishotti from afar, I can't help you. That's an owner that you'd love to have running your team, for sure. Yeah, he, that was a killer press conference. Did anybody get up and wish him, you know, comfort him for the tough season? Tell him to hold his head up.
Starting point is 00:44:57 Um, yeah, I mean, there's nothing that requires Josh Harris to do a press conference. You're right? No. But he certainly got after it last year after the season, didn't he? Yeah, they couldn't wait. Couldn't wait. Now, look, I mean, we're in such a completely different spot than we've been. I'm thrilled about that. I think, you know, I don't think that it's coincidence how he kind of, emphasized commanders, commanders, and HTT. No, no, I don't think it is.
Starting point is 00:45:33 They, and the next generation of fans. This is the thing that I've talked a lot about. It's, it's a complex, you know, situation. Like you've said many times, they paid $6 billion for a team with an albatross around its neck with this name issue and branding issue. And, you know, last year was a good way to kind of, you know, hopefully take the path of least resistance, which they did publicly because people were so excited inside the building about the name. They had become attached to the name, Tommy, inside the building. But they still
Starting point is 00:46:07 have that as a problem. But they don't have it as a problem if they don't care about the past generation as much as the next generation. The next generation, as he refers to, cares less about the name and the branding than, you know, the past generation or the current generation of fans. And like I've said many times before, if that's their growth strategy, if that's their customer, you know, acquisition strategy to focus on young people who have a much greater at this point, you know, lifetime revenue potential. I understand that. I understand that. You know, we'll take what we can get for right now, which is the uniforms. Huh? It's a bit risky. I mean, their habits are not our habits.
Starting point is 00:46:56 Right. But that's true. That is true. They are... It's just risky. They're fleeting. You don't have any other option. I mean, you know, but...
Starting point is 00:47:08 Well, they do have an option. But their habits are... Yeah, that's true. They have an option. They could change their name. Yeah. But I mean, my point is, uh, sooner or later,
Starting point is 00:47:18 you have to hope that your future. generation keeps your product going. Because the rest of your fan base will die off. Right. I do like some of these drawings, though. I'm not going to lie. That part of it's cool and what it'll do for the city. And the night shot in particular with, you know,
Starting point is 00:47:42 Capitol Monument, Lincoln Memorial. I mean, I just, it brings me back to, you know, the RFK days, it, not the same experience that fans will have starting in 2030. You'll have the utmost of luxury and you won't be sitting on a yellow seat cushion in a playoff game against the Falcons with the rain coming down sideways on a muddy field. God, remember the muddy fields, those were great. But what it'll do for that part of the city, you know, you and I've talked about this before,
Starting point is 00:48:18 Abe really, I think, started the total change of what D.C. has become by moving to Chinatown with two teams that played, you know, 162 combined dates a year. Yeah, they're cool drawings. But for me right now, I want to get Brian Flores and I want to get some good defensive players. That's what the upcoming off seasons more exciting to me than 2030. I'll tell you what, though, if we have a Super Bowl here, In 233, we'll get a spot for the podcast. We'll be down there all week. That'll be a Super Bowl week we both can go to. We won't have to choose. That's right. Tommy chose Indianapolis. All right.
Starting point is 00:49:04 No. Let's not get into that. I got San Francisco and New York. Tommy got Indy. But you got New Orleans. You got New Orleans. I did. We made the best of Indianapolis.
Starting point is 00:49:21 I know. I remember some of the stories coming back every day. All right. We got more to get to. Tommy's got some playoff predictions for the four games this weekend. We'll do that and more after these words from a few of our sponsors. Hey guys, Chime is changing the way people bank. It's fee-free and smarter banking built for most of us, not the one.

Shelly's backroom at 1331F Street, Northwest. is a cigar museum, a cigar ballroom, a cigar place, a cigar celebration, a cigar memorial, anything you will think of about cigars, that's what Shelley stands for. Now, the reason I bring this up is because I read a story the other day about Winston Churchill, one of the most famous cigar smokers of all time.
Starting point is 00:53:05 And the story goes that when he would be negotiating, with world leaders or anybody. He would always offer them a cigar. Okay, and they'd light up and they'd smoke, but Churchill hid all the ash trays in the room. And then this person, they'd be talking, negotiating with would be smoking. The ash would be getting longer and longer. And they'd be like a little bit thinking about it, a little bit panicky,
Starting point is 00:53:37 and then the negotiations would have to stop, so Churchill would get up and get them an ashtray. And he thought that gave them and it gave him an edge in negotiations. It didn't happen with his cigar because supposedly he put a paper, he unfolded a paper clip and stuck it in his cigar that would keep the ashes, that would make the ashes long and keep them from falling. Interesting. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:06 Did you ever see the movie Darkest Hour? When Gary Oldman played Churchill? Oh, yeah. That was so good. Yeah. That was good. Yeah. That was very good.
Starting point is 00:54:16 All right, back to Shell. I just want to point out, yes. You can, you can buy, there's a whole brand of Churchill. Yeah, I was going to ask about that. I thought so. Have Churchill cigars. They're great, great brand Churchill cigars, and you can buy them at Shelley's backroom. Among the top 25 cigars that cigar aficionado selects every year.
Starting point is 00:54:36 They're available at Shelley's backroom. You can find out more. at shelley's backroom.com. Okay, you just did it for a second straight show. I asked a favor of you on the show the other day during the Shelley's Read, and that is not to go consecutive days without referencing the menu. Okay. And a custom blend of, you know, beautiful ground beef and whatever else they got in there,
Starting point is 00:55:05 ground chuck, whatever it is, in one of the best burgers, in town, and I am not exaggerating. Their burger is outstanding. So, please remember that for Tuesday's show. I'll try to remember that for Tuesday. I doubt you will. All right, who do you like in these NFL
Starting point is 00:55:23 playoff games this weekend, Tommy? Well, that's a bit complicated. You know? It is? Yeah, it's a little bit complicated. Okay, why? Well, because I wasn't ready. I told you you were going to
Starting point is 00:55:42 do this. Why do you do this all the time? I'm ready now. I'm ready now. Okay. Tommy, hold on. Tommy doesn't even know who's playing this weekend. This is the part of the business. I've never really liked. I know. You hate it. That's why I love doing it. Because nobody knows what's going to happen. Well, I'll tell you what, I don't know what's going to happen anymore after 19 weeks of having it all figured out. Last weekend went sideways. But you're right. You don't like doing this because nobody knows, and that's why I've eliminated from the season this year
Starting point is 00:56:22 our Thursday power rankings. Okay, so I'll do it. Okay, I'm in. Okay, go ahead. I'll do it. I like the bills over to Broncos. I like the Seahawks over to 49ers. Yes.
Starting point is 00:56:35 I like the Patriots over to Texans. Okay. And I like the Rams over to bear. No, no, I like the Bears over to Ram. I'm sorry. Wow. Okay. So you just went with one road team and three home teams.
Starting point is 00:56:51 I bet you didn't even know who the home teams were. Well, yes, they do. You do? Okay. In all seriousness for a moment? They are. In all seriousness for a moment, if we were doing a power rankings where we were ranking one through eight, it would be really hard. to come up with the number one team.
Starting point is 00:57:16 If you did that and offered that to people to write in and rank the playoff teams one through eight, you'd get five different number one teams out of the eight. Five. Seattle, the Rams, Houston, New England, and I think maybe somebody would say Denver because they're a one seed. it's very rare that you have the NFL playoffs, appearance-wise, this wide open, without a definitive, obvious favorite or two.
Starting point is 00:57:56 I mean, think about just the last seven years with the Chiefs every year, or the Ravens even though they haven't gotten it done. And then in the NFC, the 49ers a few times, the Eagles a few times. It is, right now you could give me any sort of, Super Bowl matchup, and I wouldn't say you were crazy. The only team that I just can't envision being in the Super Bowl are the Bears. And yet, they're the team that has, you know, magic dust all over them this year. The same stuff that was spread all over our team last year.
Starting point is 00:58:33 So who knows? I think the home field advantage for the Bears is going to be significant. Well, they would have to go to Seattle if Seattle wins in the NFC championship game. Right. But if the 49ers pulled off, you know what, I can't see the 49ers in the Super Bowl, although I shouldn't say that because Kyle, you know, they're just so well-coached. But they just are so hurt on defense. And everybody's taken advantage of that in a major way except for Philadelphia.
Starting point is 00:59:02 Although I did read today that Fred Warner might actually play. That's insanity. Yeah. I could see Texas I mean some of these matchups would be fascinating like if you ended up with just say
Starting point is 00:59:17 Houston versus I mean a Houston Bears Super Bowl no one would have had that at the beginning of the year Bears Patriots my God well that's what the 80
Starting point is 00:59:33 the 85 Bears beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl what else do you have? Good job picking the games. Nice job and great analysis behind your picks. You got anything else? Well, the news finally broke that the nationals, they're done with Masson, the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, and they're going to connect to MLB, Major League Baseball, which has been putting together a network of teams, I think you're up to eight or nine different teams, where MLB handles the
Starting point is 01:00:09 production and distribution of the games now for the nationals. So, I mean, I think here's what's going to. I wrote about this in September. Where am I going to be able to watch a Nats game this year? I think they still have to determine where the local, the streaming will be MLB. Okay. I still think they have to go negotiate and determine, you know, over, over, go over the top
Starting point is 01:00:42 the, over the air, over the air, like channel, like, so channel nine or channel seven or something like that could pick up the game. Something like that. Okay. Yeah, I think so. It won't, it won't be masson. It certainly won't be monumental, but it might be channel nine or channel seven or something like that.
Starting point is 01:01:03 I mean, those would be the only other. options locally for over the air. Yeah. And the ones that we were talking about before were cable anyway. All right. But you'll be able to get all streaming at gnats.com. Nats TV, which is MLB-owned. All right.
Starting point is 01:01:22 Anything else? We can save the college basketball point shaving story for next week because I know you got to go. But anything else quickly? That's all I got for you, boss. All right. Talk to you next week. Okay.
Starting point is 01:01:35 All right, that's it for the day. Back tomorrow, Jay Gruden will be with me.
