Starting point is 00:00:02 You don't want it. You don't need it, but you're going to get it anyway. The Kevin Cheon Show. Here's Kevin. With three seconds left in this half, Daniels balled in trouble, just going to throw it out there and it's incomplete. After all of that and a terrific drive. Now, Daniels is slow to get up. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:00:27 Yeah. Oh, no. Oh, boy. Oh, no. Kevin Burkart from Fox describing yet another injury to Jaden Daniels. The show's presenting sponsor, as always, Window Nation, 86690 Nation, windownation.com if you need new windows. I'm in for a quick hour or less postgame show following the loss in Dallas to the Cowboys,
Starting point is 00:00:57 and of course, as all of you know by now, the loss of Jaden Daniels for, as of the record, of this podcast at this point an unspecified amount of time, although Dan Quinn did speak in the postgame show with some specifics about Jaden's injury. Cutting to the chase, a player's ability is very much tied to his availability. And Jaden Daniels hasn't been available enough since his rookie season. And the narrative about his inability to stay healthy, which wasn't necessarily based on any history except for last year, is starting to look like a fairly accurate narrative as he goes down here in week two of his third season. He got injured on the final play of the first half with what appeared to be a dislocated elbow,
Starting point is 00:01:54 similar to the one that he had last year in the Seattle game. He was carted off the field. Quinn said just a little while ago during his post-game press conference that it was an elbow dislocation, but it was not a fracture. No word on how long he'll be out, but it's going to be some time. The amount of time that he's lost will likely determine whether this season has a chance to be a good season or a competitive season. You know, if he's out for, call it four to six weeks plus or for the entire season, the chances of having a competitive season drop significantly. If it's a two to three week injury and fingers crossed that it's something like that,
Starting point is 00:02:44 Marcus Mariotta is certainly veteran enough, good enough, to come in and play decent football for a short stretch. Not more than that, though. He's not a full-time starter in the NFL anymore. Wow, gutting the injury to Jaden Daniels because before that play, man, was he playing lights out football? Very high-level football for Jaden Daniels before the final play of the first half. The play he got hurt on was a last attempt to score a touchdown. It was a big decision made by Dan Quinn at the Dallas one yard line, three seconds to go.
Starting point is 00:03:27 They could have kicked the field goal to make it 17 to 13. They were getting the ball. Washington was to start the second half. In that moment, I had no issue whatsoever with Dan Quinn deciding to go for the touchdown. Through the first 30 minutes, first 30 minutes of that game, it was very apparent that to keep pace, with Dallas's offense, Washington's offense was going to need to score touchdowns. Now, if he had opted for the field goal, I would not have objected to that. I wouldn't have.
Starting point is 00:04:04 The key was, did they think they had a play that would work? Did they have a play that they really liked? If they did, go for it. If they didn't or they didn't like the context of the situation, having failed on the first three plays, and they had decided on the field goal, even though they may have had a play that they liked, that would have been fine too. Honestly, this was one of those situations,
Starting point is 00:04:30 game situations. For me, anyway, I was fine with him going for it, and I would have been fine with him kicking the field goal. Although I thought the game had already made itself clear as to what it was going to be, which was a shootout, and touchdowns were going to be needed a lot more than field goals.
Starting point is 00:04:54 My first inclination was I'm taking four downs. I'm taking four plays to try to get this thing into the end zone. And when they got to fourth down after failing on the first three, and there were three seconds left, I was a little less certain in that moment, but I was okay with it. You know, they had Dallas's defense reeling a little bit. They had scored or were about to score on three straight long drives. That was the 15th play of that drive.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Jaden was seeing it, man. I thought he'd be able to make a play. But he had his foot stepped on after the snap by Chris Paul. He stumbled and when he put his left arm on the ground to try to stay up, the elbow buckled. He chucked the ball underneath. you know, underhanded, incomplete, and a few seconds later, he's on a cart with a towel over his head, headed for who knows what. Now, there were a few things about the final few plays of the first half that I will question a bit when I get to my game take. But that play and that injury was absolutely gutting.
Starting point is 00:06:10 to see him in that state again after the way he was playing. That game was going to be a really exciting game the rest of the way. They couldn't stop us. We couldn't stop them. Other than the deep shot to Traylon Burks that he missed on, he was so sharp. His mobility unstoppable. He looked in total control of the game at the line of scrimmage.
Starting point is 00:06:37 He was protecting himself as a runner. sliding on every single run at the end of it. It was just an absolute awful moment, agonizing, gut wrenching, just effing terrible. So now we wait. You know, we wait to hear the severity of it and what the plan is to deal with it. There are a lot of social media doctors out there diagnosing the injury. Some of the speculation includes going back to last year and suggesting that they should have surgically repaired the elbow after he injured it against Seattle. I'm not sure if you guys have seen that.
Starting point is 00:07:20 First, I've heard of the second guessing the strategy on that injury after the fact. I reached out to a friend of mine who is an orthopedic surgeon in town. He's done a lot of surgeries, including my back a few times. And I said, tell me what you think and tell me whether or not the internet doctors, you know, going back and suggesting that he should have had surgery last year after the first dislocation, if they were right. And this is what he wrote to me. He wrote, it's extremely rare to have a re-dislocation after non-operative care. 1 to 2%. There can be residual instability,
Starting point is 00:08:06 but surgery is rare for elbow dislocations. It was just shitty luck for sure. That's my non-internet doctor, someone who does it for a living on a daily basis. Yeah, there's so much speculation out there. What blew me away was some of the internet doctors that are out there commenting on injuries, sports injuries, who claimed they should have done surgery and he would have been less vulnerable to this happening.
Starting point is 00:08:44 Apparently, at least according to my guy, that isn't necessarily true. And that elbow dislocation rarely requires surgery. Needless to say, look, he is going to be lost. We don't know for how long. But if he's lost for a while this season is in trouble two weeks into it. If we knew at this point that the defense was good enough to keep a Marcus Marioita quarterback team in games, then the conversation might be different. But we certainly don't know enough about the defense after two weeks. It took a major step back against Dallas versus last week.
Starting point is 00:09:29 against Philadelphia. Certainly there was an expectation that they were going to face a veteran, experienced, and very, very capable offensive football team that was much more advanced at this point than the offensive football team they faced last week. And that was true. They might be a good defense capable of carrying a Marcus Mario da back team, but it doesn't look like they are at this point. I mean, Dak Prescott and the Dallas offense shredded the defense today. They scored on seven of their eight drives, punted just once, no turnovers,
Starting point is 00:10:13 37 points. Dak Prescott was 26 of 31 for 279 and 4 touchdowns. Dallas is excellent offensively, and it was a mismatch today. The only hope was to keep pace with Dallas, with our own offense, scoring every time it had the ball. And it was looking like that was a possibility until the final play of the first half. And Jaden left the game. Seemed like the game had a chance, really, to be a shootout. Washington had 225 yards in the first half, and they were six of nine on third down.
Starting point is 00:10:57 but one play, one foot stepped on, one elbow dislocated, and the game was basically over, and we'll find out whether or not the season is in deep, deep trouble in the next day or so. Really stinks, doesn't it? My game take next. Football's finally back, and prize picks is bringing out their best offer yet. New users who sign up will get $150 in the last. lineups if you win your first $5 lineup. That's right. If you win your first $5 lineup, you'll get $150 in lineups. Prize picks is my go-to daily fantasy sports app, and it's the best way to win real money
Starting point is 00:11:42 this football season, and it's so easy. You simply pick between two and six players, then just pick more or less than their projected stats. You can make these picks in a minute or less, and it adds so much more interest on game day. In tonight's Monday night game, the MVP from last February, Kenneth Walker, the third's rushing total of more or less, is 63 and a half yards. I'm going under with, I think, the expectation that most people will think over. So I've got under 63.5 yards on Kenneth Walker. These are the kinds of projected stats that you can just guess more or or less on, and that's how prize picks works. Prize picks is now available nationwide, so what are you waiting for?

Smell test on fire again, big day in the NFL, depending on what happens tonight in the Kansas City. Indy game, I've got indie plus six and a half. It's either going to be an eight and four weekend or a seven and five weekend. weekend, but another winning weekend guaranteed after I went 6 and 0 on the 1 o'clock games today. All right.
Starting point is 00:16:30 The game take is, as always, a list of the things that I liked, a list of the things that I didn't like from a Washington perspective and other observations. So here's what I've jotted down so far here just about an hour and a half after the game. What I liked, Jaden Daniels, before the injury. He was sharp throwing it. He was lethal running it. Total control he was in at the line of scrimmage where he clearly has been given more authority to check out of bad plays and into better ones. He missed that one throw, the second and one bomb to Berks. It's too bad that he didn't hit on that because that would have ended that final drive of the first half and the game would have been tied at 17. but he did overthrow Burks.
Starting point is 00:17:18 That was probably the biggest mistake he made. But I loved the shot on second and one. He had accounted for 165 yards in the first half, 96 through the air with a touchdown, 69 as a runner in which he protected himself on every single run and did not take a shot. He made it easier for Rashad White, made it easier for Kroski Merritt.
Starting point is 00:17:45 They were both benefiting from Jaden, who was in the pistol on occasion and really posed as a zone read run threat. I thought that that would be important in the game. Now, he didn't pull it on any of these zone reads, but he was just outstanding. He converted over and over on third down, the first one coming on a third and 18, after a ridiculous offensive pass interference penalty on Terry McClearn. That was a joke. The 24-yard completion on 3rd and 18 moved the sticks. And really from that moment on, it was a show. It was a Jaden Daniels show like we got used to in 2024. He had a 3rd and 2
Starting point is 00:18:31 where he scrambled for 18 yards on their first scoring drive. He had a 3rd and 6 on the final drive of the first half where he connected with digs against the blitzing him, by the way, is not a fun thing, because if you don't get to him and get to him quickly, it's going to be a big play either with the arm or the legs. He had an excellent check at the line of scrimmage to Rashad White on a third and two run where White easily got seven yards. I think that was a pass play that he checked to a run, or at least Brady thought it was on the call. He was accurate pretty much on every throw. for the deep ball to Berks.
Starting point is 00:19:12 They went hurry up on a few plays, including on the touchdown pass to Diggs. He hit Terry in the end zone with Blan, Duran Blan in coverage. That was a good ball. It was called a touchdown on the field, but reversed by replay, which was the right reversal.
Starting point is 00:19:28 Other than the Burke's deep ball overthrow, the only other play you'd ding him for was the pitch to Kroski Merritt in the backfield that was either his fault, or maybe it was Kroski Merritt, who didn't get to the mark that he was supposed to get to. That play cost them dearly. It cost them a touchdown more likely than not.
Starting point is 00:19:47 They had to kick a field goal to make it 10 to 3. He did a very nice job before that field goal. It was third and 18. You know, Red Zone was a part of the mix there. And he did a nice job checking the ball down to Rashad White for 13 yards. That was good management. I really believe it was. I don't think in that situation you're going to have a lot downfield.
Starting point is 00:20:10 that's 18 yards or more. It's not like the other one to Terry where you've got the whole field. I'll go back tomorrow and really look at the three plays prior to the last one of the first half to see if he had anybody open. Remember, you can't take a sack. You can't complete a pass in the field of play where the clock runs out. Got to get rid of the ball kind of quickly there.
Starting point is 00:20:37 Maybe he missed something on the first second. or third down snap. I'll let you know tomorrow. But for the most part, he was outstanding before the injury and I think really poised for a massive game. Dallas's defense wasn't great last week. It wasn't great today. And they were getting injured more on defense than they even were before the game began. Jaden Daniels, the first half, on my list of things that I really liked. Also on that list, Stefan Diggs. I mean, look, there's some good and bad with Stefan as we witnessed in the opener, but this dude is just a guy that can get open and he catches everything. Five catches, 47 yards, two touchdowns, one from Jaden that made it 17 to 10,
Starting point is 00:21:35 one from Marioota, that made it 30 to 20. five catches on five targets, I think it was, maybe six targets. He's the guy that our quarterbacks are going to be very comfortable with. He is where he's supposed to be. He gets separation. He's an easy target and he doesn't drop anything. I thought Rashad White, after I dinged him last week for looking slow, I thought he looked much better today.
Starting point is 00:22:08 I thought he ran with great vision, with some burst. And then as a pass catcher, he was awesome in the game as well. Six catches for 40 yards. And then running it, seven carries for 43 yards, 6.1 yards per carry for Rashad White. What else is on the good list? It's hard to really put anybody defensively on the good list. If anything, I would throw David Blow on there in his second game. I think he had Dallas completely off balance.
Starting point is 00:22:43 After that first drive, they overcame a couple of penalties. Jaden, of course, was creating off schedule with his legs, you know, throwing to people in big spots with his arm. But I thought they had a nice game plan, and I thought he erred on the side of being aggressive, were last week against a much better defense. He was more patient. Yeah, that's it on the good list. What else? I thought that Kinlaw popped a little bit defensively,
Starting point is 00:23:19 but he also got hurt in the game. But other than that, there just wasn't enough. Defensively, it was a mess pretty much all day. So Jaden's first half, Stefan Diggs, Rashad White, and I just made it. note that I thought Kinlaugh was an active participant defensively with with a couple of good plays. Nick Cross actually had one TFL, but should have had another one, but I think the runner got
Starting point is 00:23:48 back to the line of scrimmage. But that would be it on the list of things that I liked. All right, the list of things that I did not like. Of course, the injury to Jaden, the injuries to Kinlau, and then Sam Cosmi clearly took a, you know, a blow to the head. Friendly fire on that one. Hopefully Sam is all right, man. They need Sam Cosmy, but I'm sure he is in concussion protocol this week. Look, the replay that upheld the call on the field on the Diami Brown touchdown catch from Marcus Mariotta on the opening drive of the second half that should have tied the score at 1717 was an absolute travesty.
Starting point is 00:24:36 What am I missing? Diami Brown had possession of the ball. He had a knee in before anything else hit out. One knee equals two feet. He survived the ground. The ball was safe. It was secure. Touchdown.
Starting point is 00:24:52 Brady, everybody on the broadcast, that's going to be a touchdown when we come back from the commercial. It was challenged and the call on the field was upheld. What are we doing? Look, maybe I'm missing something that we'll find out tomorrow. But that one looked easy. In my notes, when they went to commercial, I just wrote down touchdown, challenged successful 1717. Great catch by Diami.
Starting point is 00:25:18 I'm at a loss as to what they could have been looking at. They had to kick a field goal two plays later. that seemed disgraceful from a replay booth. How did they not call that a touchdown? The Terry McLaurin offensive pass interference before the third and 18 that he caught for a first down that really ignited the offense. What was that? Offensive pass interference, there was no arm extension. There was barely any contact.
Starting point is 00:25:53 That was an absurd call. So yeah, I'm doing some referee complaining here because it was a joke. The Diami call in particular and the Terry call was ridiculous too. I thought the Reeves call for the, it was helmet to helmet. So I'm going to go along with it. But man, in the moment, I was pissed because I was like, that's a big time hit. You know what, Jeremy Reeves, I should have added him just because of the way he flies around and hits people. Should have had him on the list of good.
Starting point is 00:26:28 Also on the list of not good. Just the defense overall, man. I mean, come on. Dallas had the ball eight times and scored on seven of the drives. You know, last week against the Giants, they had a pretty successful drive conversion as well. They just didn't have the ball that much. Look, eight possessions isn't a lot,
Starting point is 00:26:53 but that's because Washington, you know, had long drives in the first half. Washington won the time of possession in the game. They snapped the ball 12, 13 more times than the Cowboys did in the game. So the Cowboys scored 37 points on, get this, 54 offensive plays. They were 7 of 11 on third down. 332 yards now you may say, well, that's not a lot of yardage. Yeah, well, they only had. eight drives, you know, and they had a short field on at least two of them.
Starting point is 00:27:29 So they just couldn't get off the field, could not get off the field against the Cowboys, and people were just so wide open. C.D. Lamb, eight catches, 153 yards. I think six of them were in the first half, two touchdowns. Jake Ferguson, he's open. Somebody cover him. Pickens open. Flaw, open. And then Javante, Williams, look, I think they did a decent job stopping the run. I probably should have added that to the good list as well, but it really didn't matter because they couldn't stop Dallas when they threw the football.
Starting point is 00:28:04 Even when they got pressure, and that was the one time, they had some pressure and some successful pressure that forced the one punt. Just a bad day defensively. You knew it couldn't be what it was last week because they were facing something. much better, you know, and one of my keys was, you know, you got to limit the explosives. You can C.D. Lamb had a 38-yard play. You know, most of it was just 10 yards, 15 yards, 12 yards, 14 yards, wide open, everybody. Look, Sanra still is going to get probably a terrible grade for this game. I actually thought some of the balls that were caught on him. He was actually there in
Starting point is 00:28:52 position on a couple of them. But yeah, Amique Robertson right now, for me, looks like the only guy that is decent in coverage among their DBs when it comes to coverage. I think Amic Robertson is a very active player and seems to stick with receivers better than anybody else does. Look, the bottom line is, and they get Seattle coming in, and even if it is Drew Locke, Jackson, Smith, and Jigba, I mean, you better get to Drew Locke. You've got to get to the quarterback on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:29:29 It won't be the same challenge that Dallas was today. But JSN's better than Lamb. He's better than Pickens. And they can run the football too. They destroyed Arizona today. I haven't seen anything about that game. But you've got to get to the quarterback. have to get to the quarterback
Starting point is 00:29:50 with the secondary that you have right now. Just not good enough defensively here in week two. I mean, it was encouraging last week, but it was the opener, and it was Philly with a new coordinator and new offense and no A.J. Brown. Dak Prescott, C.D. Lamb, Jake Ferguson, George Pickens,
Starting point is 00:30:16 Javante Williams, and some cohesion because they've been together. What else is on the list? The missed scoring opportunities, you know, the missed field goal from Drew Stevens. He's missed two field goals now in two weeks. The double pass opportunity. I love the call. It was a great call.
Starting point is 00:30:38 It was set up perfectly, and Antonio Williams just didn't make a great throw. And Terry couldn't adjust to it. the minus one turnover margin Diomi fumbled on the quick bubble and then no takeaways again two games zero takeaways on the season what else did I have on the bad list that's kind of it
Starting point is 00:31:02 let me finish up with a lot of other observations about the game including I'll go through that end of half sequence from a clock management standpoint and give you just at least an alternative that maybe they considered and maybe would have worked. We'll do that after these words from a few of our sponsors. Hey guys, creatine is one of the most researched and effective supplements available.

All right, a bunch of other just observations from the game. I wanted to go through the end of first half sequence
Starting point is 00:34:58 before the final play, which Jaden got injured on. So first things first, because a couple of friends of mine texted me and said, what took them so long to call a time out after Jaden had a 14-yard scramble to the Dallas 14-yard line with roughly 38, 39, 40 seconds left, somewhere around there. And they let the clock run down to 29 seconds before they called their timeout. Now, I actually think it was the right thing to do. Yes, you wanted a touchdown, field goal worst case, but you needed to bleed the clock as well so that Dallas didn't have a chance with the ball at the end of the half because they have Brandon Aubrey, which means if you get to the 50,
Starting point is 00:35:48 he's got a chance to add three to their first half total. So I was okay with calling that timeout with 29 seconds left and letting, you know, probably 11 or so seconds come off the clock before the timeout. 29 seconds in the position they were in at the Dallas 14 with a couple of timeouts left after that first one, plenty of time, plenty of time to get a touchdown. They had plenty of chances, including a fourth down chance, a one final play chance. That final play didn't happen on a first down or a second down where you would have loved more time. It came on a fourth down play. Secondly, when they got to the Dallas one-yard line and used their final timeout with 12 seconds left,
Starting point is 00:36:38 this is where I think, you know, there's some, you know, there's some room for not necessarily criticism, but for curiosity as to whether or not they considered running the football. You know, you can't get tackled in the field of play. You can't get sacked. If you do on any of those plays, the half ends. You know, you don't want to leave that situation without, you know, a touchdown or a field goal. Now, if you decide to go forward on fourth down with hardly any time left, then you're deciding on no points or six points. And that's the decision they made. But I do wonder whether or not,
Starting point is 00:37:22 first of all, the play, the fourth down play that Jaden got hurt on, I've watched it a few times. I think Jaden under center was going to boot right with Rashad White as perhaps a passing option, or maybe as an option option with Jaden kind of running a sprint option with a pitch opportunity where Jaden was going to do it with his legs and if somehow they made a play, he could pitch it to white. There looked to be some room there and if he doesn't get his foot stepped on, I think there's an opportunity there. With the way he was playing with the way he was moving with the Dallas defense, I think that was the play. I'll probably learn more about it between now and the next time we talk.
Starting point is 00:38:08 But would you consider a run on a down in which Dallas isn't expecting a run? I've always felt like if you're going to go for the touchdown regardless, if that's your plan, as long as you don't take a sack or a penalty or whatever, a sack would have ended the first half. But as long as there's no penalty. Why not surprise them with a run on third down? Now, if it doesn't get in, half ends and you look stupid. But you're pretty much, when you're on the field defensively against a team with no timeouts and a play that stops in the field of play
Starting point is 00:38:50 is going to end the half, you're expecting pass, which makes it harder because you're not defending run, makes it harder to throw it in even from the one-yard line because they don't have to play run on first, second, or third down. So on third down, do you consider spreading the field and running the football? I mean, Dallas was not stopping Rashad White with Jaden in the pistol. You know, they weren't probably going to stop Jaden, you know, on a designed run or on a quarterback draw, which is a designed run.
Starting point is 00:39:23 I don't know. I think it would have been ballsy and you open yourself up to a lot of criticism if it gets stopped. You know, the typical conventional thing is you're going to throw the football two or three or three times and then
Starting point is 00:39:38 on fourth down when it's your final opportunity, then you can consider running it. Yeah. Overall, again, I didn't have much of an issue with the way they managed the clock. And I
Starting point is 00:39:54 I was okay that they went for the touchdown. I thought, man, you come away with three here after first and goal, the one, it'll be a bit of a disappointment. Yes, you're going to get the ball to start the second half, but you need touchdowns in this game. This team that you're playing is going to score a lot of points today against your defense. You need to finish that drive. 15 plays.
Starting point is 00:40:20 They were probably gasped to a certain degree, although the timeout certainly. refreshed them. But yeah, I didn't have a problem with it. And if he had sent Stevens out for a field goal, I wouldn't have had a problem with that either. Honestly, I was okay with either. I was on that drive when they got to the one. I'm like, you got to get a touchdown here.
Starting point is 00:40:41 Like if it comes down to it, you got to, you know, and you're still at the one or inside the one, you've got to try to get a touchdown here. A field goal is going to feel like a letdown. Now, no points feel like a letdown. and no points plus an injury to your quarterback feels like game over, if not season over. Yeah, what else is on my list? Marcus Marietta in the game.
Starting point is 00:41:06 Look, he is a veteran quarterback. He has nice touch on his throws. He can run this offense. He can run it similarly to Jaden, just not with the same level of, you know, elite play. He's functional as a quarterback in the NFL. He's not a starter anymore. If he were a starter, somebody probably would have paid him to be a starter.
Starting point is 00:41:34 Is he a backup quarterback on this team that can give you some good play? Yes, but we also know that he can give you some bad play too. I thought he did a pretty decent job. He was running around creating and extending plays. I don't know if he was not throwing to guys who were open before he started to create off schedule. But he made some plays off schedule, that's for sure. And the ball he threw to Diami was perfect. Perfect.
Starting point is 00:42:04 Should have been a touchdown. Should have been 1717 on the first drive of the second half. I thought Marioato was fine. You know, I really did. I thought that he, given the circumstances, he did a nice job. And if that Diami touchdown is called the way it should have been called, you're in a 17-17 game. And we would have said, hey, man, let's try to steal this one with Marioota. Remember, Marioita quarterbacked at the end of the year in 24, came in in the second half and led a victory over Dallas.
Starting point is 00:42:38 So he's won in that stadium in Burgundy and gold. So I thought Marioita was solid. He wasn't what Jaden was in the first half, but I thought he was solid. What else do I have here? Did you know that Dallas went 50 minutes between possessions? When Washington took over on that 15 play drive to end the half, then you factor halftime. Then Washington got the ball to start the second half, 50 minutes of real time before Dallas came back out on to the field in the third quarter in a seven. 17 to 13 game.
Starting point is 00:43:20 But they went right down the field and they got three to add to the lead 20 to 13. What else here? How about some of the trick plays? The double pass already talked about that. Should have been a touchdown. I'm sure they feel good about Antonio Williams throwing it or he wouldn't have been the guy that they ran it with. It just wasn't there. Diami can throw it.
Starting point is 00:43:42 We know that. And he was involved in a lateral where he threw. back across the field to Rashad White. This was a play that was a Kingsbury play. I remember they ran it and had an opportunity for a big play. But McCaffrey, I think it was Luke McCaffrey or Diami. In the opener in 24 against Tampa Bay, I think it was Diami, who decided not to throw it back to McCaffrey, who would have had probably the opportunity to score. And instead, the play didn't work out. I may have my memory about that specific play. Um, not exactly right. But yeah, uh, look, Ben Johnson, that's the tree he fell off of, David Blow. Ben Johnson runs a lot of
Starting point is 00:44:29 trick plays. And man, the double pass absolutely should have worked. Um, yeah, you know, the kickoffs in the game were hard to handle for Jalen Lane. Uh, the way Aubrey just poached it down there and, and had the ball bounce. Now, one of the kicks did not make it to the landing zone. I think that was the first, the second half kickoff. But Jalen Lane had a couple of issues with kickoff returns. And then he had one big one, but his first four or five were not great returns. He had a difficult time handling it.
Starting point is 00:45:05 And then the kick coverage for the Cowboys was pretty good. On the flip side, man, that Cavante Turpin, he is so dangerous. Cahoe had a really good play, tripped him up on a return that I think maybe goes the distance. But I'm going to guess, let me just pull it up, that he averaged well over 30 yards per kickoff return. Not the best day for kick coverage for Washington. And one of the kicks went into the end zone, which gives Dallas the ball at the 35. Yeah, Turpin 30. 30.5 yards per kickoff return.
Starting point is 00:45:38 Brandon Aubrey had a 60-yarder. Man, he is, I think it's 760 plus. yarders now in his career. You're basically in his range once you get to the 50 yard line. That is crazy in today's NFL, although there's five or six kickers that you could probably say the same, Cam Little for sure in Jacksonville. What else did I have on my list? You know, there was the mix of undercenter and shotgun and or pistol. I don't, I have a sense that they were probably under center a little bit more today. But they were also in the pistol.
Starting point is 00:46:18 You know, the pistol is when he's back, you know, in sort of that, you know, shotgun snap look. It's just about a yard closer to the center with the back directly behind him. And they were in the pistol in part because they wanted to show some zone read looks. Jackson Dart had some real success on that. Jaden didn't keep it on any of the zone reads, but it was. really helped the running game. Yeah. Other than that, I think that's everything on my list.
Starting point is 00:46:52 Dak Prescott, by the way, passed Tony Romo with his fourth touchdown pass today on the all-time Cowboys touchdowns. Passing touchdown list. He was exceptional today. Prescott was. C.D. Lamb and Jake Ferguson and Pickens are going to be open for the next hour. there was nobody near them much of the day. Next week against Seattle, it will be imperative that they get past rush on Drew Locke and really unnerve him. Because if not, Jackson Smith and Jigba even doubled is going to put on a show.
Starting point is 00:47:31 We saw it last year in the game in which Jaden dislocated his elbow the first time. All right, I'm going to be back later tomorrow. hopefully with whatever the news is, fingers crossed that this is like a two to three week thing and they can somehow steal one next week or the game in London against the Colts and hang in there until five comes back. But if they opt for surgery or something like that and he's out for a much longer period of time or this season, I mean, yeah, September 20th, basically we go. got a game and a half into 2026 before it became a major uphill battle to competitiveness.
Starting point is 00:48:20 All right, that'll do it. Back tomorrow.
