You don't want it.
You don't need it, but you're going to get it anyway.
The Kevin Sheehan Show.
Here's Kevin.
Fred Smoot is on the show with me today.
He'll join me in the next segment.
We'll get to some of the NFL games from yesterday here shortly.
And we will end on some other stuff, including Alex Ovechkin,
who is on an absolute heater right now, hat trick last night in Las Vegas.
The show's presenting sponsor, as always, is Window Nation.

This from David C to open up the show.
Kevin, Jaden is hurt, he's been hurt, and the way he's built, he's going to get hurt a lot.
He's been great, but his body type should have lowered his draft stock.
This from Frankie, I'm not sure what you're watching, but JD is clearly hurt.
He shouldn't have played against either the Steelers or Eagles, and if he's not right this week,
they should sit him and play Marioota against the Cowboys.
He's too valuable to mess around with like they did the last two games.
So before I get to what Dan Quinn just said a little while ago during his Monday press conference about J.D.,
Daniels and Jaden's health.
I would point, Frankie, you especially, to the Ravens Steelers game yesterday.
Pittsburgh totally bottled up Baltimore.
And by the way, two-time MVP Lamar Jackson, turning the Ravens over three times,
holding them to 16 points, 11 fewer than Washington scored against Pittsburgh.
last week. Lamar Jackson had less than a 50% completion percentage. He was 16 of 33,
and he only ran the ball four times, the fewest in any game this year with the exception of
their blowout win over Denver, where he really didn't have to run that much. He did have
one big run of like 29 yards, but he was not the major factor as a runner that he used.
usually is. And the Ravens in the loss, 18 to 16 to Pittsburgh, had their lowest point total of the
year and by far their least productive day in terms of yardage. The Steelers held them to
329 total yards, 111 short of their league leading average. The Steelers are really good, Frankie
and everybody else on defense right now. Really good. The Steelers,
Skins with the player that you didn't think should play against Pittsburgh was from a comparison standpoint as good, if not better than the two-time MVP was yesterday.
We don't need to quibble comparing their two games. The bottom line is Washington, as an offensive unit, was more effective against Pittsburgh than Baltimore was.
But the real overarching point here is that Pittsburgh knows how to bottle up.
in offense led by a very mobile quarterback. Philly right now is fifth in the league defensively,
per the DVOA metric. Pittsburgh is seventh. I'll just say what I said last week. I truly believe
that based on what I was told and based on just watching, that Jaden, while he didn't look great,
I'll concede that point against Philly and Pittsburgh, although Philly was a much different
animal than the Pittsburgh game was. Pittsburgh, you know, I had him as a C-plus, almost made him,
gave him a B-minus in that game. Philly was his worst game of the year. But to me, it just didn't
add up or make sense that you could solely chalk up his performances to injury, considering that
when you went backwards towards the date in which he got injured against Carolina, the next two
games, he was very good. And there were no signs really of him being injured or hurt,
even though we've been told that those games, he was worse off than he was in the Pittsburgh
and the Philadelphia games. So Dan Quinn today in his press conference started with John Kine,
the senior member of the beat team. And John asked the coach, what's contributing to?
to the offensive problems the last two games.
And Quinn said the following.
Now, I'm going to read to you the first part of the answer
because the team's recording of the press conference today,
and this happens occasionally with them,
is they cut off part of his first answer,
and they pick it up generally as he's answering the first question,
but not the entirety of it.
Some days they get the whole thing, but some days they get to it late.
So I'm going to read to you the first part.
part of his answer. And then I will play for you the other part, really the rest of his answer.
But John asked him about, you know, the offensive issues of the last two games. And he answered
it by saying, quote, good question. So I want to first start off by saying clearly and honestly,
Jaden is not injured right now.
And now I'll let you listen to the rest of his answer.
Again, after he started off by saying,
I want to first start off by saying clearly and honestly,
Jaden is not injured right now.
But we did lose valuable practice time,
John, with him and his teammates when he was injured.
And that's hard on all the guys.
It's a really, really important part of what we do, and we don't have banked reps in years.
So we're very much looking forward to getting back onto a full week and regular practice sessions with the guys.
So over the last few weeks, we've had to put that together in small bits.
So that's what I think into that space.
And as we're heading into this week, we're looking forward to getting a full week of our practice and, you know, work the things that we need to.
Dan Quinn, just a little while ago, giving his explanation as to why the offense has struggled the last two games.
And what he wanted to clearly get out, as I read before you heard the rest of his answer,
is that Jaden is not injured right now.
Clearly and honestly, Jaden is not injured right now.
And then he talked about losing the valuable practice time when he was injured.
going back to, you know, the lead up to the Chicago game, the lead up to the giant game,
much less in terms of the lead up to the Pittsburgh game.
And then, of course, the Philadelphia game, because it's a short turnaround, they're not really
practicing those are walkthroughs anyway.
But look, I know that many of you, I mean many of you, because I have heard from many of you
over the last week, that you are convinced that Jaden's, you know, subpar performances
were due to injury.
And that was the number one explanation for his last two games.
And, you know, I think that some of you actually won't even believe Dan Quinn,
who said clearly and honestly, Jaden is not injured right now.
You may chalk that up to trying to protect him.
You know, he doesn't want Dallas to know that he's still hurting.
I just don't agree with that.
I completely believe what Dan.
Quinn just said, in part because I was told that.
Secondly, he's kind of been saying that.
Thirdly, again, I think it has to do with what he said
and the fact that the two opponents back to back
were really good on defense, really good on defense,
really good teams overall.
And I think this mini-buy and a chance to sort of take a deep breath here,
and have the first break that they've had,
and they'll have another one coming up with their very late in the season by week.
And the fact that Dallas is coming into this game off a short week.
They play tonight against Houston.
No smell test pick, by the way, even though I would lean Dallas plus the seven.
Good smell test weekend.
Seven and two, five and oh in college on Saturday, two and two yesterday.
but now that's four winning weekends in a row,
and now I am comfortably above 500.
Well, not totally comfortable,
but six games above 500,
with still plenty of season to go.
I do like Dallas tonight,
but it's not an official play.
Glad I got that out now,
because I think I may have forgotten to say that,
because I think I did say on Friday
that there might be a pick on Monday, no pick.
Look, I'm buying Dan Quinn.
I'm taking him at his word.
Again, I told you guys last week I had someone in the know tell me that he was much healthier against Pittsburgh heading into the Pittsburgh game than he had been against the bears or the giants.
And also with respect to those that believe like, who was it, David C, his body type should have lowered his stock.
Frankie said he's too valuable to mess around with.
I don't believe they're putting him at undue risk and risking his future by playing him with sore ribs or when they did play him with sore ribs.
So there you go.
Take it for what it's worth.
I know some of you will absolutely rest on.
No, he just doesn't want to tell Dallas that Jaden's hurt.
He wants them to believe that he's fully healthy and totally.
capable of doing everything that he's able to do.
And who knows, maybe you're right.
Maybe we'll get to Sunday and Marcus Mariotto will be a surprise starter and Jaden will sit.
But I doubt it.
I tend to take him at his word.
All right.
Boy, it was nice to kind of just sit back and watch the league yesterday, right?
You know, without Washington having a game.
I always appreciate those opportunities because I do think,
and we've done this a lot as a fan base over the years,
you just tend to get too wrapped up into your own team's games
and the opponents they're playing,
and you miss out on what's happening,
and you end up not having, I don't think,
a kind of legitimate comparison environment for your team
to, you know,
comparing your team, comparing your players to other players.
And look, the league is week to week.
It does change dramatically all of the time.
But I love the NFL.
I mean, I love Saturdays too.
But even when Washington does play, I enjoy, you know,
watching a full day of NFL football.
So that's what I did yesterday.
And I'm going to start in sort of my review of yesterday.
with talking about a team that is clearly on a role like you don't see that often.
And that is what Detroit is doing right now.
Detroit beat Jacksonville yesterday, 52 to 6.
The Lions are having at 9 and 1.
One of those seasons where, you know, as a fan, you sort of sit back and you say,
well, that team is the best team.
It's happened, you know, several times.
It doesn't happen every year.
But it happened, you know, in 2007 with the Patriots,
even though ultimately they didn't win the Super Bowl.
You know, in 2013 with the Broncos with Peyton Manning,
we've seen, you know, several of those seasons.
I always like to think of the 91 team, you know, our team,
which was one of the greatest teams ever assembled.
In fact, Detroit's start right now, the 10 games start,
Aaron Chats, the inventor, the creator of the DVOA metric, said that Detroit's 10 games start
is the third best in NFL history per the DVOA measurement.
Number one, the 2007 Patriots through 10 games, and number two, the 1991 Washington Redskins.
Detroit has won eight games in a row. They are nine and one for the first time since
1934, that's 90 years. They set a franchise record yesterday against the Jacksonville Jaguars with
645 yards. They had over 500 yards and 49 points at the end of the third quarter when they sat their
starters. They scored 52 and scored seven touchdowns on their first seven drives.
and had 645 yards of offense.
In the meantime, Jacksonville, who was without Trevor Lawrence, right, they started Mack Jones,
and they are a hurt team and they're a bad team.
They held Jacksonville to 170 yards.
The 475-yard differential is the third largest in league history and the largest in 45 seasons.
It's the second time this year that the Lions have scored 50 points or more.
They've also scored 40 or more on two different occasions.
Their point differential right now is 159.
That's 53 points better than the next best team in the league as far as point differential goes, Buffalo.
But Detroit's played one less game than the Bills have played.
They are doing this without their best player, maybe on their roster, Aidan Hutchinson,
who got hurt earlier in the season.
But man, they really do appear to be having one of those truly dominant seasons.
We're talking about Detroit, I know.
But still, if you take the uniforms and the logo and everything off and just watch that team,
they're unstoppable on offense.
And Jared Goff is not an elite quarterback in my view.
He's having an elite season.
By the way, he's now third in the MVP odds race behind Lamar Jackson and now Josh Allen
is the front runner.
But he is a guy that when you have the best offensive line in the league in front of them,
incredible skill position players, a really good defense,
a really good coaching staff.
He has already proven that he's good enough to lead one team to the Super Bowl.
He did it with the Rams.
And he's doing it again.
But this will be one of the examples if Detroit makes it to the Super Bowl or wins the
Super Bowl of, I think, not having a truly elite quarterback, but you could certainly
in this year's NFL put Jared Goff near the top 10 easily.
he's always been a top half of the league starting quarterback,
but certainly with the deterioration a little bit of quarterbacks in recent years
and a lot of young guys starting, although the young guys are playing well,
you certainly put him right around the top 10,
you know, probably maybe, you know, inside it barely.
I don't think he's Mahomes.
I don't think he's Allen.
I don't think he's Jackson.
I don't think he's Burrow.
I don't think he's Jaden Daniels, quite honestly, in terms of his
ability, but what a team the Lions are right now. And I will point you in the direction of
December 15th, 425 on CBS. Detroit hosts Buffalo at Ford Field. There are several games of the year
coming up and yesterday, of course, featured Buffalo in Kansas City. But Buffalo at Detroit,
when we get there will be an incredible matchup.
The Lions are really spectacular.
It's just hard to believe, right?
Because they're one of the few teams that have never been to a Super Bowl.
They have certainly been one of the bottom feeding franchises,
you know, along with Cleveland and Washington and the Raiders and a few others
over this, you know, century in particular.
But, man, the hiring of Dan Campbell.
I didn't guess that one. I didn't.
But he's got a staff. Ben Johnson's certainly going to get his choice of jobs if he wants to coach in this upcoming offseason.
But man, the lions are so good. Amon Rae St. Brown, who is truly one of the best receivers in the league.
11 catches 161 yards and three quarters yesterday.
They had 38 first downs in the game. Detroit did.
They're off to an incredible start.
They actually have a lot of interesting games.
They have still another game against the Packers, the game against the bills that I mentioned.
They do play at San Francisco in the next to last week of the season, and they close with Minnesota.
All right, so let's talk about some of the other games that were played yesterday, key games.
We've kind of talked about Baltimore, Pittsburgh, you know, the other part of the Baltimore
Pittsburgh game, Pittsburgh's defense obviously awesome. Pittsburgh won for a second time this year
without scoring an offensive touchdown. Chris Boswell kicked six field goals in the game,
but man, Justin Tucker, he missed two more, a 47-yarder and a 50-yarder. This is one of the
greatest kickers in the history of the game. He has missed six.
Six field goals this year.
Six. He's also missed a P.A.T. this year.
I mean, people have actually discussed what does Baltimore do?
What do you mean? What do they do?
You let Justin Tucker kick his way out of this. That's what you do.
I mean, he's Justin Tucker.
He's 34 years old.
We've seen kickers kick well into their late 30s, early 40s.
he's in the midst of a bit of a slump.
Now, you know, maybe they see something that tells them that this is going to be a bigger problem.
I have no idea.
But look, Pittsburgh, they had three turnovers.
They won the turnover battle in a 3-1 plus 2, and the three turnovers were forced.
What I couldn't understand about this game, because I watched this game,
although I had the YouTube quad box going on there for a while.
I just can't believe in a game like this,
Derek Henry only gets 13 carries.
I know he fumbled his first carry
on the opening drive of the game.
He was 13 for 65.
That's, by my math, 5 yards per carry.
You've got to give him more touches.
This is why you got Derek Henry for a game like this.
And then on the two-point conversion at the end,
he wasn't even in the game.
Don't you want Derek Henry in the game so that Pittsburgh's got to play Lamar as a runner?
Derek Henry is a potential runner.
And you got to cover, you know, likely and flowers and anybody else.
I don't know, man.
That two-point conversion, that quarterback sweep, the quarterback counters, the quarterback
powers, the quarterback sweeps, the true design quarterback runs.
God, I hate those.
Except maybe for Josh Allen, because he's built for that.
1816. Pittsburgh, man. They're for real. This is not your 9 and 8 Pittsburgh Steelers under Mike Tomlin totally overachieving of the last few years. They're different. They're better on defense, actually. They're better on offense, clearly. Russ didn't even play that well, and they won. They're 8 and 2. I'm not going to sit here and tell you I think that Pittsburgh wins the division. I still think
Baltimore is very much in it.
And remember, they have to play at Baltimore later in the season.
And they still have a game against the Chiefs.
And they have to go to Philly in a few weeks.
And they have two against the Bengals who lost last night.
But the Bengals are certainly capable offensively.
But, man, Pittsburgh, right now is Tomlin the front runner for Coach of the Year?
Let me see if my bookie has updated Coach.
of the year odds.
I was going to talk about this from a rookie of the year standpoint.
So I know a lot of you are alarmed now that maybe Jaden isn't the frontrunner for
rookie of the year.
He is.
He's still a massive favorite over Bo Nix, who has been on a role and is playing high-level
football.
All right, Dan Quinn, right now at my bookie, my-booky.ag, promo code Kevin D.C.,
and you'll get a 100% deposit on your initial sign-up money.
Dan Quinn is plus 390.
He's the favorite, but Mike Tomlin plus 400 on his heels right now.
Then it's Andy Reid, actually, followed by Dan Campbell, Kevin O'Connell, and Jim Harbaugh.
You know what?
I was just about to say, where's Jonathan Gannon, the Arizona coach?
They're in first place after 10 games in the NFC West.
He's plus 570.
And then it's Sean Payton.
What a job he's doing with Denver.
But Quinn still at my bookie is the favorite to win coach of the year.
All right, Kansas City Buffalo.
I mean, certainly one of the plays of the year.
I mean, I still, you know, Jim Nance was saying the play of the year in his call at the end of that game,
the 29-yard 4th and 2 run for a touchdown.
by Josh Allen. It was spectacular. 26 yards. He is something else, man. He's playing at such a
high level. And really the key for him is he's not turning the ball over this year. He threw a
pick yesterday, but had an incredible day rushing for 55 yards, 12 carries in a touchdown,
threw for 262 in a touchdown. That game was a really good football game played by two teams
who have developed this really intense rivalry,
even though they're not in the same division,
kind of like Indy and New England had for all of those years,
kind of like San Francisco and Dallas had for many years.
Buffalo has beaten Kansas City four out of eight times,
but they're 0 for three in the postseason.
And so this is great, and it was a really fun game to watch.
And I think if they don't pick up that fourth and two,
or I think it was the right call.
If Sean McDermott decides to kick a field goal there,
I think Kansas City goes down and wins the game 27-26
or 29-26.
They would have gone for two.
You know, I truly do.
I think if they had been stopped,
Kansas City would have won on a walk-off field goal.
They had to go for it.
They had to make it,
and he turned it into a touchdown run
and a nine-point lead.
By the way, at that point, too,
they needed to make the extra point.
And already their kicker, Tyler Bass,
had already missed an extra point.
So they needed to make that extra point
to extend the lead to nine.
But this is, you know, big for Buffalo.
It's irrelevant for Kansas City.
It's big in the home field chase for the number one seed.
But we already saw last year Kansas City
go on the road and win two at Buffalo at Baltimore.
Kansas City's schedule, which kind of looked easier,
and this is why you can't really judge schedules,
You know, at any point in the season, unless you're within a couple of games of the games that you're looking at.
I mean, it's not as easy as we thought.
They still have to play the Broncos who are rolling.
They still play the Steelers who are rolling.
They have the Texans.
They have the Chargers.
Their next two are against the Panthers and the Raiders.
And then Buffalo, you know, Buffalo with, you know, right now a half game behind Kansas City,
but with that game in hand if they finish in a tie, they have the 49ers on Sunday.
night. They have the Rams. They have the lions, as I mentioned. They do close with Patriots,
Jets, Patriots. But that's going to be a hell of a race, man. And you can't count Pittsburgh out
in terms of the race for the number one seed. You know, the, the AFC at the top, KC, and look,
KC right now is a team that is defense first. But I think they'll be good enough offensively. They'll
get Isaiah Pacheco back at some point, too. That'll be big, even though Kareem Hunt is good.
Their biggest issue in watching them yesterday, and I think it's the first time I've watched
them since that Tampa Monday night game, their tackles are terrible. They're not protecting
Mahomes. But those were the two big games yesterday. Last night's game was crazy. I mean,
I was sitting there in the first half. I had the Chargers as a smell test pick because everybody was
on Cincinnati. And they were up 27 to 6 early in the third quarter. And I'll tell you that in watching
Herbert, I was like, man, this Jim Harbaugh, he gets his quarterbacks to play at a high level. He's
always got a defense. He's got a running game. They're going to be dangerous here as we go through
the rest of the season. And then Joe Burrow brought Cincinnati back. They tied the game. Their kicker,
man, there are a lot of kicks being missed here. I'm waiting to see the story, the article, about
goal misses this year. Because I know the story early on was, my God, 58-yard field goals are
a given now. They're booting all these long field goals, but I can't remember so many missed
field goals. It could be me, but last week there were two games in which kickers missed three
field goals. This week, there were multiple games in which kickers missed two field goals.
Evan McPherson missed two field goals for Cincinnati. He used to be
automatic.
Dustin Hopkins missed a 27-yarder and a 32-yarder, which was nullified by a penalty,
in New Orleans for the Browns.
But, man, I will tell you this, seriously.
Cincinnati's 4 and 7, and they're probably not going to make the postseason.
But that's one team offensively.
I mean, they, with Higgins and Chase and Burrow, they can really,
really light you up in a hurry. Burrow 356 more passing yards, three touchdowns, no
interceptions. He is having a season, which if, if Cincinnati had a, just, they're four and seven,
let's just say they were six and five, he would actually be right there with Josh Allen for MVP.
He's got 27 touchdowns and four picks. He's already thrown for over 3,000 yards this season.
he is tearing it up.
They're just not very good defensively,
and they have lost some absolute heartbreakers.
Last night, 34, 27, 3534 to Baltimore a few weeks ago.
They lost that game when they had a big lead
in the first game against Baltimore in overtime.
They lost to us on Monday night in a thriller.
They lost to the Chiefs, remember, all the way back in week two by a point.
I mean, I'm just looking, the only team that dominated them.
The only team was Philadelphia.
It was close game at halftime, but Philly blew them out in the second half.
Other games that I wanted to comment on.
So Bo Nicks, you know, a lot of you are concerned, oh my God, Jaden's now in a race.
As I mentioned, he is still like minus 700.
he's a massive favorite to still be the offensive rookie at year.
There's a lot of season left, I understand.
But how about the job that Sean Peyton's done with Bo Nix?
I have watched a little bit of Denver in recent weeks.
You know, they lost last week on a block field goal against the Chiefs.
It was a short field goal attempt that they had.
Bo Nix was 28 of 33 for 307 yards yesterday and four touchdowns.
Now, yes, I do know.
Atlanta right now, they may be the worst defensive team in the league.
Certainly of the teams with winning records, they are by far and away the worst defensive team in the league.
They stink on defense.
And Denver, they couldn't stop them.
They couldn't stop them running the football.
Giovante Williams had a big day.
And then Bo Nix lit them up.
38 to 6 was the final in that game.
and all of a sudden Denver's six and five.
They're six and five.
Bo Nix having a really, really good run here over the last four games.
He's nine touchdowns, one pick.
He's not just, now two of the touchdowns yesterday were bubble screens,
but he can throw the ball down the field.
I think it's like one of those things where Sean Payton's a big part of it.
They've got a great defense, really good defense in Denver.
They have, you know, some players offensively.
Cortland Sutton's always been talented.
They've got some talented backs.
And they've got a coach that recognizes what Nix can do and what he can't do.
They're using a running game.
They're using defense to protect him.
But I think also one of the things we may look back on with Nix, this is really early,
is that everybody just assumed that he couldn't throw the ball down the field.
Well, he wasn't asked to throw the ball down the field.
Oregon. And that may have been the reason he didn't throw. People didn't think he could throw the ball
down the field. But Denver, you know, I'd mentioned recently that the AFC will have an eight and nine
or nine and eight team in. Maybe not now. I mean, Denver is a playoff team as of right this moment.
How about Chicago? Caleb Williams with a new offensive coordinator was so much better.
All quick game stuff. Getting the ball out of his hands. When they came
here and played here. I'm like, why are they dropping them back? He can't see it yet. He's got a ways to go.
And sacks and holding onto it and trying to scramble his way out of it. Not yesterday. New
offensive coordinator, new game plan, and he had a game. 23 of 31, 21, 231 yards. He had 70 yards rushing.
He was only sacked three times. He had an 83.4 QBR in the game. They had. They had,
had that game won and they were lining up for a field goal.
I thought they did a terrible job at the end.
I had Chicago plus the points yesterday.
Everflus is a good defensive mind.
He ain't a good coach.
And they just settled for a long field goal attempt.
They had 35 seconds to get much closer with a kicker that clearly has maybe on a longer kick,
a lower trajectory, and maybe that led to the block.
Chicago is claiming that Green Bay lined up over the long snapper
and should have been called for it. Whatever.
Green Bay wins. Chicago loses, but it looks like Caleb Williams is in better hands,
at least for now, with the new offensive coordinator.
Speaking of other rookie quarterbacks, I haven't watched Drake May at all.
I'll be candid with you.
I have not watched one second because it's the Patriots.
But everybody says that he's playing pretty well.
30 of 40 for 282, two touchdowns.
Also ran for like 27 yards.
And the Rams were in a dog fight at the end.
I mean, the Patriots had the ball there at the end, down six in May through an
interception.
He had a fumble in the game too.
Young quarterbacks make mistakes.
But 30 of 40, you know, and he's moving his team, and his team's converting, you know,
in third downs, I think they were seven for 14 against that ram team.
And they had a chance.
The Rams, meantime, get to 5 and 5.
How about New Orleans all of a sudden?
They're rejuvenated with their new coach.
They've won two in a row.
That game was tied up at 14.
One of my favorite players in the league is Taysam Hill.
Seven carries 138 yards.
He also had eight catches for 50 yards.
He also had a kickoff return for 42 yards.
He scored three touchdowns.
He is such a weapon.
He also threw twice and completed a pass in the game.
Also threw a pick.
James Winston threw for near 400 in the loss.
But the Saints all of a sudden have won two in a row.
Washington goes there next month,
and they're a different team than they were during their losing skid.
The Colts came back with Anthony Richardson, long drive.
Credit to him, man.
He made some really good plays and then ran it in for the go-ahead for the winning score,
28-27.
I'll say what I've said all year long.
If you've watched the Jets at all,
Aaron Rogers' arm isn't any weaker.
He's not throwing the ball any less accurately.
His decision-making may not be great,
and the offensive scheme may not be great,
but the number one reason, the New York Jets are 3 and 8,
the number one reason is their defense.
Their defense is totally different than it was a year ago.
It just is.
The New York Jets right now are 20th in the league defensively per DVOA.
I think they were third last year.
I mean, the Colts with Anthony Richardson went for 28 points in this game.
And they lost.
They're done, obviously, at this point, they are cooked.
Vikings won against the Titans.
We play them in two weeks.
The Titans are good defensively.
They really are.
2313.
That was one of my smell test picks.
It did not work yesterday.
And then how about the Seahawks and Gino Smith's final drive in his
touchdown run. He's, man, he is a gamer. Love Gino Smith. He will make some head scratching
throws, but man, he just keeps firing and what to make of the 49ers. I have no idea. I still
would not count them out at 5 and 5, but how about that division? Six and four Arizona at the top,
the other three teams, the Rams 49ers, and the Seahawks all at 5 and 5. And that's why I would say right now in the
NFC, you got to get to 10. Washington's at 7. They got to get three of their final six.
They'll be in. Nine and eight ends up being, I think, a little bit dicey because you're going to end up
with two out of the NFC North. And then the third wild card is either going to be the NFC East
runner up, Philadelphia or Washington, or the runner up in the NFC West.
All right. Fred Smoot next after these words from a few of our sponsor.

You've got nothing to lose.
That's all I ask is if you and your spouse,
you and your significant other, you and your roommates,
you just living solo, have been thinking about,
new windows, just give them a chance to come out and give you a free estimate. They'll come out in
an hour or less, you'll have a quote. They won't pressure you into doing anything. And right now is a
great time to buy windows from Window Nation. They're offering 50% off all windows and Windows styles
and zero percent interest for five years. If you call them now, they'll come out, give you the
estimate. They can have the windows in in just a couple of weeks before winter arrives. I was looking
at the long range. First of all, we do have a shot of cold coming this weekend, but right around
the week following Thanksgiving, maybe a couple of days after Thanksgiving, it's looking
colder with chances of yes, snow, ice. Now, these long range forecasts, they don't always
work out, but it looks like the pattern's about to flip into more of a winter pattern as we get
towards the end of this month. And if you've got older windows, you're losing money. You're
beating bills are much higher than they should be.
Window Nation's windows are the most insulated windows you can buy.
That means more of the heat stays in your home with Windonation windows than without them.

I recorded what you're going to hear now, my conversation with Fred Smoot, before Dan Quinn spoke today.
So you'll hear us talking about Jaden Daniels and Marshawn Latimore, which by the way, Quinn also said today, as it related to Marshawn Latimore, that he hopes Latimore will be able to practice this week.
And he also said that missing two games following the trade was not a surprise to him and that things are moving in the right direction.
But I just wanted to give you a heads up that my conversation with Smoot did not include what Quinn had said.
said because we did it before. So I actually started off by asking Fred what he thinks the issues
with Jaden have been in the last two games. Does he think it's injury or something else? Here's what
he said. Something that complex can't be that singular because the simple reason, Professor,
it's going to be a little bit of everything. It could be a little bit of the fact that our Rickie season is our
longest season because we come straight out for college year and we go right into the next year.
It could be the fact that he did have an injury and when you're talking about Reels,
you're talking about a quarterback that every time he makes the throw, he has to open up that
Reel of College.
It could be the fact that we just played against Mike Tomlin, which is a Super Bowl winning
head coach that now has a Super Bowl quarterback that has a defense with all-stars on all three
level with Mika Fitzpatrick's Porter.
And you talk about the lineback with T.J. White.
talk about the front with Cam, so they have everything you need.
They're a tough win for anybody.
Look what they did to Lamar yesterday.
Think about what they did.
Like, we scored more points than the Ravens did against them.
We were a better matchup with the Steelers than the Ravens went for a long period.
Then you look at the fact that the next opponent is the Philadelphia Eagles, and we could just,
if we go through their offensive loan, there's no weaknesses there.
It's going to be one of those teams you can't make mistakes.
So it's not all of joining.
I mean, it's not all a jailing thing.
So it's just one of those things, man, we go through ups and downs in the season.
It could be a little bit of everything.
Could be a little bit of everything.
But we just played two of the best opponents that's on our schedule.
Two of the most complete teams, when you talk about from top to bottom,
we just played those teams.
And if you ask me, we hit the bullies in the mouth for at least three quarters.
We just didn't finish.
Yeah, I think I agree with everything you said and have said as well.
much. I mean, it's not just the fact that he might be a little bit sore.
They, you know, if they had played the Giants and the Panthers in the last two games,
and we had seen that performance, we might be able to point to, hey, he's not 100%.
He doesn't look the same physically, but Pittsburgh and Philly are awesome. And I want to do,
I want to ask you about Philadelphia because they've been on a role and Thursday night they
showed a lot, especially on defense, I felt. Would you consider them to be? I mean, they're a
game and a half up right now with one in hand. Do you think they're going to, do you like them to
win the division? Well, the thing about it is, we are at the start of our window. They are in
their window. They are in their Super Bowl window. We are on two different timetables. Our time table
just accelerated because once we got the quarterback here and we start rolling, we realize we can
win now, not tomorrow.
So we're in two different windows because now the pressure is on them to be, and they are, think
about it.
They have an MVP candidate at running back with Sequin Barkley, which I knew once he got
with this team, he was going to be unbelievable.
Then I know it was going to be this damn good, but yeah, I knew it was going to be unbelievable.
Jalen Hertz is cutting out, trying to cut down on the turnover.
He's starting to use his wheels more.
That's when they're at their most dangers.
They got A.J. Brown.
They got Dallas Garters.
They got one of the best, if not the best, office of line in football.
That's an impeccable office that's in a Super Bowl window.
Now you flip to the defense.
That's where the youth is at right now with Quinion Mitchell and Cooper DeGine.
How about those rookies?
Then you look at the Kobe Dean finally coming into his own.
Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis.
They're all in their empathy over there.
They're starting to mature.
They brought back CJ, and so things are starting to click with them.
I'm not shocked that their team that's dangerous right now that nobody wants to play.
But yet, by saying this, we played them on the road, on the short week,
just got through wrestling with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Yeah, you know, it was some things there.
But if you want to ask me out of the class of the NFTEs, yeah, they weren't.
And they're supposed to be.
where I so let's just say that we're at the very beginning right now and I don't we're going to have
plenty of time to talk about these things when the season ends because we're in the middle of the
season but I'm just curious right now what would be at the top of your offseason shopping list
oh the top of my shopping list it's uh I'm really watching the Cincinnati Bengals because they're
cheap and they don't want to pay anybody and they have a top tier talent
The best one, they have a receiver right now that's about to win the triple crown, I mean,
triple crown, and Jamar Chase, that the money is just going up each and every game.
They let him and Joe Burrell play together.
I don't see why they haven't signed him yet.
They got T. Higgins, a guy that I would love to put opposite of Terry,
because whatever guy gets as a wire receiver, he's going to be different than things that we already have.
I want a size monster coming here.
Somebody with a big catch radio.
That catch rate here has come with.
Now, Jayden Daniels don't have to throw perfect ball to a guy that's six, four, and a half,
because his catch radius is so big.
So, of course, it'll be why I receiving T.
He can be at the top of my list.
I would love to snooze Jamar Chase.
I would love him to come out and say, I don't want to sign with him,
and now we can negotiate.
I would love that to happen.
And also, now that we got Loudamore, they just switched my draft.
They switched everything I had planned,
because now he put a guy there that basically can go take out,
other guys number one.
So now the only thing you could be looking for a now is a young pass rusher.
You know what I'm saying?
Like this is where you'll be trying to really score it between wire receiver and pass rush.
Yeah.
They're not going to, Jimar Chase is going to, he's going to be in Cincinnati.
I don't know.
You don't let him go.
I have seen them mess up deals before.
And this is a guy that's about to be the highest paid wire receiver in front.
football, and they already have a quarterback that's on one of the highest-paid contract.
So we've seen this before, and then we know for a fact they're not going to pay T. Higgins,
so you never know what happens.
So tell me what you think about the Latimore edition, and when do you think he'll play?
I don't know when he'll play, but when he do play, he will be high-end talent in the
middle of his career and probably going to be reinvigor.
with this scheme and with this coaching staff,
you're going to get a guy that I guess we was always known for one position.
Really, when it came to other teams,
they always knew we were going to have good corners.
I don't think we had a guy high-in like this since D. Hall,
when you want to say, go, go shut a guy down,
go make me some plays, go take the ball away.
I think this guy hasn't gave up a man-to-man touchdown this 2000.
22. And yes, and I'm saying that correctly, Professor. He hasn't gave a touchdown. Like, this, that's
crazy stats for a guy that follows Mike Evans for a guy that's always been in a division with
Julio Jones for a guy that's just, just, just, it's always taking on that number one assignment.
It tells you, I'm very, very excited to see what he's going to do in a, how should I say,
defense-back friendly
defense compared to
the Saints telling him go take away
somebody's number one and have fun doing it.
I think he's going to be special,
especially because he's
eventually is going to be hefty,
but I think more he's going to be mentally
hefty. And I think people don't
take that into account when it comes to football
players. It's mentally, where
is a guy it? And I can tell you what
you're going to get from him. And I think we're
going to get a lot from this guy. He's going to
allow coach Witt to
really called his defense. You got to realize if you, if you ain't got guys out of time, you can't
not call your defense the way you want to dictate. Now, you would see him not more adjusting to teams.
You'll start to see him dictate teams on the way he called it in similar to the manner than we
did with Gray Williams. So how do you see it when he's ready to play in the, in terms of
the corners? You see Sandra's still staying on the outside?
primarily or not?
I see, because of how
Senator Steel is playing, I see
him lining
up opposite of Marshall Lynch, when it's
two I receive, when he's three.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I can see
they're moving center steel into the
nickel and then probably put St. Juice
and rotating St. Juice and Igbonogamy
on the corner opposite of Latimore.
But I think
your number one and two,
Youngster and Vet, and I think
you rotate the other two.
because I can't just stop playing igbonogamy because he's responded to every challenge that I put before him so far.
So I'm not going to put him to a point where he's not playing anymore.
And St. Juice has battled back and forth being something, asking to be something that he's not in the number one corner.
But he's fought his ass off.
It didn't always pay out.
But he's standing up and fought and he took some bullets.
Do you like the two safeties as much as I do in the way they're playing?
I love them.
I love them.
morning quietly, quietly is having a season. And when I say he's just a sign guy, be where I need
to be, make the play when he needs to be meeting. Like, if these guys fall on their fumble that he
calls, we beat the stills. Like, we beat him. Right. Like, we beat him. Like, come on, man.
Philadelphia game, he punched it out. Where, where the other people. Yeah, I mean, Philadelphia,
you're my bottom.
I'm sorry.
No, it's right.
We win that game, and Jeremy Chin has been all over the place.
Every time I flash and see, it's a couple of guys.
If you watch the game, when they come into the screen, it's a blur.
And there's Jeremy Chin and Frankie Louvoo.
There's nothing I love more than seeing Frankie Louvo blitz, because when he comes,
you don't even see him because he's moving so fast.
It's a blur through the screen.
I love watching these guys.
get to the point of attack with some bad intentions, man.
These guys play into football.
Louvoo's their best defensive player, right?
You know what?
That's the thing about it.
He's the, he's making all the big play,
but you can't just see him and say Philo.
Fowler ain't having a pro bowl year.
Like, that's the crazy thing about it.
I think Fowler, because he was the high draft pick
that didn't jump off the screen early in his career,
and now he's having this late.
career sergeant reminds me of the same,
well, not the same art because he came in as a little guy,
but one man game, Lorenzo Alexander.
You know, Joe really blossomed in the end of his career.
More so in Buffalo than here.
Yeah, most definitely.
So, you know, a new place, new location, new coach yourself,
something that fits you, finally, scheme is everything to players.
So, you know, it's some guys that having.
some years out there on defense, man.
And the defense is doing what I told people to do.
And I told them to let Grandma cook.
That means I just wanted patience.
Because if you get patience, you get a time to let these coaches like Grandma do,
and let's put love into it.
And you've got to realize this defense only still have been playing together.
What, 10, 11 games?
That's still very, very early in a defense.
Man, I'm like, if I'm 10 games old, 11 games old,
I'm just starting to understand where my coordinator wants to do.
it how you won't have to do it.
Yeah.
Look, I think it's gotten better in the last two games in particular.
I thought the first half the other night it was real.
I thought it was as good as it's been in the first half the other night.
And it was pretty good against the run for the first time against Pittsburgh.
So that's encouraging.
Let me ask you on both sides of the ball.
Give me a player on offense and on defense who maybe
statistically hasn't, you know, produced just based on numbers, but you think is playing better
than the numbers say and may have a really strong finish to the season?
One has no numbers because he's been impeccable, and I just have to bring him up because
the officer line is getting a love. Tyler B. Otis has been a gods.
The things he did to Texas and New York, who's demolishing everybody to lead, the things
I've seen him do against A1 talent has been unpeckled.
We have a roller coaster at the center position for a long time,
and to have a guy like that, that affects how fast Jayden has had the chance to start
with him being able to call out of line calls,
with him being able to snap the ball and still dominate as a high level.
Another guy is my guy, downtown Noah Brown.
Listen to me.
He has what I call Ghost Yards.
And I've been trying to watch the film.
to see why a guys could just continuing to set on him as a cornerback.
I don't know if they doubt his speed, and I'm looking at it on film,
and it doesn't really look like he's moving,
but he's gaining ground at a fast thing.
This guy, if you turn his past interference,
because he gets won a game for 30 yards at least,
if you turn that into a legit yardage,
he's literally a 60-70-yard-game guy.
Like, the things he's flipping the field on one pass interference per game plus the plays and the catches that he's making.
So if he was a high, high volume receiver, there's no telling what his numbers would be.
I just felt like he has so many what I call ghost yard hidden yard that only we as defensive players look at and say they're stings.
It stings in a way that people don't know.
I think he has been utilized a little bit because I was.
I would love to get him some shorter balls and not just be all vertically.
But he's been a guy that I think because his numbers don't reflect it,
you know, besides the hell, Mary, I just don't think he's getting out of love he should get.
Go shorts for Noah Brown.
I think Luke McCaffrey is open all the time.
It might be because who's covering him week in and week out,
but he looks to me like a guy who just, for whatever.
reason Jaden looks, Terry, Ertz, and Noah Brown. Those are the three guys he seems to be most
comfortable with. Do you see it with McCaffrey or not? Yeah, there's trust. They have to gain
it, and they're going to gain that. They're going to get on their point, and you're right. He's going
to look to the people that showing him doing the year that I'm going to be here. I'm going to make
the play. Good things going to happen when you throw me the ball. A tight end is a quarterback's best safety
I'm never going to tell a quarterback not to throw to a tight end.
They're the easier throws.
The tight end usually don't need much room to get open.
They usually get you a couple of yag yards who always throw to him.
And Noah has kind of been that guy that when you throw it to me, good things do happen.
No matter if it's a past interference or deep baller, a Mary the hell Noah.
Like anything can happen when you throw it to me.
I think they'll eventually get on that thing.
And you're right.
McCaffrey is.
And I think be patient, Professor, I think it's going to come.
It's going to come that game where he's going to have that big game
where he makes three, four, five, six catches in a game,
and dead, death, starch that train of McCaffrey,
of young Luke turning into a true Jedi.
All right.
So this is more of kind of just really going to your experience,
being on some teams that, you know, played well, came together.
They're obviously that 2007 team for all the wrong reasons,
the sad reasons of Sean's passing came together at the end.
But we've heard all season with this team.
It's a brotherhood.
They're close.
This is the first adversity that they have faced as a team,
and it's the first adversity that Jaden's had,
probably since maybe early in his first year at LSU.
What do you see in terms of this team and its ability to come together
and bounce back?
First of all, Jayne has had adversity
even through his housing campaign.
Nobody wanted to believe it was really.
Everybody wanted to give everything
and make sure, you know, look at him in a way
that he's never been big enough.
He's never been strong enough.
He's never been there.
So his adversity is where he's used to.
Adversity is what every guy on this team is used to,
from Terry to the run, to everybody else.
Everybody on this team has been told their career
what they have been.
Frank and Louvre, the pastor told he wasn't good enough.
enough to get paid. Jeremy Chin, you're not good enough to get paid. They went got guys with a
mixed-fit island type of mentality. Luke McCaffrey has been told you're not your brothers,
you're not your dad. Like, these guys have all got, like, other things that they're fighting
for other than just respect and money. So the brotherhood is really, you're right. Your brotherhood
don't get tested doing good times. It gets tested doing bad times. And I got full faith that they'll
come together. Like, I think they have the where, the world.
and the makeup of their coach, and they understand, hey, we lost two games, two good teams.
We get a chance to get one.
We get a chance to play one again at home.
The other one, show be it.
We'll see you if we see you.
But they learn, like, sometimes you learn from a loss just as much as you learn from a victory.
So it's going to happen.
If I would have told you at beginning of the year, Professor, that we'll be seven and four,
you would have took that in a bowl of grits and said, I enjoy it.
With some honey on those grits.
No, we don't put honey on the grids.
We don't put honey on the grits.
We don't put butter, salt and peppermint.
That is definitely a southern dish, but I like grits.
Whenever they're on the menu, I will order grits.
I like grits.
All right, how do they finish?
Six games left.
They've got seven.
How many more do they get?
Oh, hard to say.
I just think we don't take these games.
I'm going to talk like my football talk.
We don't take them one at a time.
No, no.
How many do they get?
You're not playing and you're not coaching.
All right.
Let's go down through them.
We play the Cowboys of Dallas twice, thank God.
All right?
They got Cooper Rush Head quarterback.
They have internal turmoil.
They are mentally physically and emotionally beat up.
But you know, don't let them make them feel better than trying to sport something for us.
But by time we treat them like we sure treat them, so we beat them.
So let's go.
Now we're at nine and four?
Yep. All right. No, eight and four. Eight and four. But you got the Titans coming in the following week.
All right. The Titans got a very good defense. They do. You're right.
They could play defense, so there'll be a game where the special teams and our defense is somebody,
we're going to need a score for one of them to really flip their game upside down,
but we can most definitely beat the Titans.
All right. And then you got a bye week, and then New Orleans on the road, and they're playing better.
All right. The thing about it is, we're going to,
finally get out by week, and whoever thought of a by weekend, week and week 14 has cursed us.
Imagine how these guys' bodies feel.
Three straight years. Yeah, like, I don't know what that's about. That's a disadvantage, not an advantage.
And they're going to come back, and you got to realize we didn't start to kind of lose our routine
to a couple of officers of Lyme and get hurt, to be robbed, get hurt, so we started to get
nicked up, and it started to set us back. So we'll be in full flies for that one. So we'll be ready for
New Orleans, I always ask myself when I go into games.
Who got the better head coach?
Check this in our favor.
Who got the better quarterback?
Check this in our favor.
Who has overall better team?
Check this in our favor.
I think we beat the Saints.
So that gets us to 10 and 4, and then the rematch with the Eagles.
And there you go.
We got these guys at home.
It ain't no short week.
We just coming out of five-by week after playing the Saints.
We'll be better.
You get three points at home, two points being in a home.
home. So, hey, I think it's a toss-up. Can we beat them? I think we can beat them. I think if I told you,
we split with the Eagles, I don't think they're shocked anybody. Look, Philly still has, before they
get to us, the Rams on the road, the Ravens on the road, and the Steelers at home. So I still think
there's a chance that game could be for first place in the NFC East. And also, Professor,
don't forget.
The one thing about it is we took the Pennsylvania beating.
We took it back to back weeks.
We're going to see how their roster look and who's hurt and who's not hurt
after they take the Pennsylvania challenge.
That's true because their game before they play us is Pittsburgh at home.
Thank you.
Thank you.
And so then, so that's a toss-up.
Yep.
Yeah.
So you got us at 10-Wids.
and that's fine. You didn't
declare anything on that game.
Atlanta might be the worst defensive
team in the NFL. They're the next
to last game of the year. They're at
home. Yeah, they are
at home, so they're a dangerous team. Anytime
they're playing the dome, I would love to have them
outside. No, no, no, they're at home.
They're at home, meaning
we're playing them at our home. That's here.
Oh, that's great then. We got them
to return to Kurt Cousers. Do you
think it's Kurt's Sweet Reveen?
if you think that's what it's going to be about.
I think, like you said,
that's going to be one of the defenses that we play
that's not on the level of Philadelphia,
not on the level of Pittsburgh.
Are we going to be able to make plays?
Yeah, I think we'll be in a rhythm.
I think everybody will be wanting to get that momentum,
especially going into the playoffs.
I just think when you talk case by case,
I think we are better put together team than the Atlanta Falcons.
I think at that time of the year,
where it's going to be about being,
physical, you know, cold time of the year. You got the Atlanta Falcons outside. It could be nasty
that day. Our quarterback can run. Y'all quarterback can't. I think they're working to our favor
right there. You got us at 11. We're in now. I think we're in at 10. I think 10's an absolute lock.
And then they finish at Dallas. And who knows whether or not that game will be one in which we need
to win. But I would imagine if we do, that's a win also. They stink. Yeah, they stink.
and I feel so proud to say that the belt buckle, the cowboy boots, and the hat stank, too.
So I'm happy that they down.
They will get no mercy from me.
All right.
One last question, because we will be entering that time of the year, like you said, could be cold, could be nasty.
Do you have any concern that Jaden is an indoor quarterback or a warm weather quarterback?
Why would you think that?
I have no concern.
Did you see him all bundled up in the Meadowlands a couple of weeks ago?
It was 55 degrees.
And guess what?
With the wind tree effect, it probably felt like 49.
I played in there.
You know, the wind turned on the Meadowlands.
It felt like 49.
There you go.
I was a warm weather guy.
I know.
That's why I'm asking you.
Yeah, it only takes a season for you to adjust.
It only takes a season for you to start the weaponizing.
Like he will be okay
Like the one thing you do in that first year
You learn how do I bundle up
Because the one thing you can't do is put too much on
Like you just can't put too much on
So you're going to learn to layer
And once he learns that layer things
The way they're supposed to be layered
And take care of the things that really need to be
Taking care of the feet
And in other things
He will be okay
I'm not worried about him being a cold weather quarterback
Why are you worried about that
Because you think
Do you think the playoffs go through Philly and we'll have to go to Philly if they get home, Philly Vannis and play outdoors? Is that the reason?
Well, first of all, you've got games at home. You're fortunate in that your road games are the rest of the way at New Orleans at Dallas. So you don't have to worry about that.
But you got home games against the Eagles on December 22nd and against the Falcons on December 29th.
And then if you don't win the division, you're a wild card team. And you could go, yeah, you could go to Philly,
easily. You're probably, I mean, you're not, Detroit is, they're the one, I mean, we might as well
hand them the one seed right now. They're that good, I think.
They are a machine, ran by a machine. Right. So I, I have always, like, thought that that's an
interesting thing. Some guys, even if they're warm weather guys, it doesn't matter. They're just,
they're ready. It doesn't bother them. They get used to it quickly.
And I have no idea how Jaden will be, but given that you're a warm weather guy,
I just thought you might notice something in him that might cause you some concern.
No, it doesn't cause him any concern.
Like I say, it's one of those things where it's a process.
You have to get used to it.
You have to do it to do it.
And then you learn how to do it.
I'm not worried about that.
And plus, the thing about it is he's a quarterback that is still a weapon with his legs.
And that's what really helps a quarterback in cold weather.
In them times where it is raining and you can't really throw the ball like you want to.
Now you can still weaponize the legs.
So it made a Mike Vick and a Dunwin McNabb and I'll be fine with no matter where I play it, I will be fine.
Think about this.
The Manning family is a Southern family of quarterback.
I don't think Eli had any problem trying to bum us in the cold weather.
Like I think it's like I say, it's a process.
You learn what you need to wear and you learn what you don't.
Let me just tell you something. The Stark's always had an advantage in Winterfell.
Until they had to fight something colder than you.
That's true.
And you've got to realize the wildest look at Winterfair as the South.
Yes, they did. They viewed it as the South.
But if you're from Dorn and you've got to play in Winterfell, that can be a problem.
That's all I'm saying.
And Jaden grew up in Dorn.
Eat Dernish wine.
All right. What else? I think that's it.
Thanks for doing this. Oh, I know what I wanted to ask you, too.
What is he wearing for the ribs right now? Do you know?
Well, probably just the same quarterback vest. He was wearing before the ribs.
You know, all the quarterbacks wear the vesting, they wear their shoulder pad.
I don't think if, because if he won't some bulky, we would see it. He's skinny.
So we would see it. He's not.
He's not doing anything special besides rehabbing,
and you can only wear the pad that you want to
because too much padding to restrict him from one throwing the ball
and two from actually running the ball when he does run the ball.
So too much protection sometimes, like they say now,
I always talk to.
You need water to live, but too much of it, it'll kill you.
So you need to make sure you're racing in that fact.
What's the coldest weather game you ever played in?
Uh, one degrees or zero degrees in Green Bay.
All right.
You know the one thing about it when I was in that black and blue division over there,
and I played for Minnesota.
We used to play all division games at the end of the year.
So I caught, I had to go to Winneville in late December.
And I actually climbed the wall after interception that I ran back to the house off of Brett
Bob and got beer through all over me.
I remember. I've played that highlight many times.
I remember you guys went to, in 07, you played a game in the Meadowlands on a Sunday night that we had to get,
and it was like 40-mile-an-hour winds in cold.
You remember that game?
Yes, I do. And it's swirling.
So it's like the balls was going everywhere.
They was running, Big Brand.
They were running Jacob set us, man.
They was trying to set the corner position.
They were going to try to either make us fold or hold them out there,
And me and Shult Spring did a good job.
We played them to the end.
And there was a time when we just, we told the league, we didn't care what you were going to do.
We was going to play man to man 90% of the snap.
And it was a crazy year that year because I actually was one of the few corners to ever do it.
I went that whole entire year, 400 to 500 to 5, almost 500 snap and gave up no touchdown.
I think I would like the second, third person, ever do it.
Wow.
Yeah.
I mean, that 05 and 07 team, the 07 team to me is the last.
last really good defensive team that we had here.
But hopefully, you know, add a couple of pieces to this group and we'll be good in the
next few years.
Thanks for doing this as always.
I think we will.
I think we headed in the right direction.
I think everybody knows that.
All right.

Eichl Delays.
That was a blind behind the backpass that was ill-advised, and away comes Washington with Ovechkin closing.
Alex fires! He scores!
The second of Alex Ovechkin.
three goal night, a hat trick in Vegas.
He's tied for the league leading goals at the age of 39.

plus seven. Again, as I mentioned in the open, I'd lean cowboys tonight, plus seven, but it's
an official play. And Washington right now at My Bookie is a 10-point favorite over the Cowboys
on Sunday. That's the biggest favorite Washington has been over the Cowboys since 2007, the season
finale, when post-Shawne Taylor's passing, remember when they won four games with Todd Collins,
they played the Cowboys who had clinched everything. They weren't playing for anything.
In fact, you know who quarterbacked in the second half of that game?
Brad Johnson, who was on the show with us recently.
But Washington is a 10-point favorite.
They were a 10-point favorite at the end of that 2007 favorite.
They won that game 27-6 to advance to the playoffs.
But Washington, the biggest favorite, they've been over the Cowboys, in a long, long time.
MyBooky.orgie.org promo code, Kevin D.C., all the football, all the basketball,
all the hockey you want to bet as well.
So look, you guys know I'm not a hockey guy.
And, you know, I'm not a massive Caps fan.
I've been very upfront about that.
I just never really got in to hockey.
I do love the postseason.
Talked about that.
I like talking about the Caps and watching the Caps during the postseason.
But this is not even a hockey story, or it's not a four hockey fans' story.
This is a massive chase.
This is Gretzky's mark.
Ovechkin after last night is now 29 away from passing the great one.
At his current pace, he'll do it in 38 games, which would be early February in a game on Super Bowl Sunday against the Utah Hockey Club.
Now, that's projecting based on exactly what he's averaging right now, and the pace he's on is a ridiculous pace.
He's on pace right now for 63 goals.
That would be his second best goal scoring season of his career.
You'd have to go back to his third season as a super young player to find 65 goals, which was his best.
But he is really, really on a role right now, as are the Capitals.
They are now tied for the third best point total in the Eastern Conference.
Last night, by the way, he had his 31st career hat trick and his multi-goal game 176 of his career,
and that's 13 behind Gretzky.
So, you know, we've talked about this record periodically, and we thought it would probably be done
based on his recent goal scoring pace in the 2025-2020s campaign.
No, he's going to do that this year.
right now. Knock on wood, he stays healthy, but he has been spectacular so far. And that will be,
you know, a record that this will be massively, you know, paid attention to by, you know,
sports, you know, passing Gretzky, when he does this, this will be a big deal. You know,
the Caps, when they get into their games and he's later in the season and he's approaching that
Mark, you're going to see a lot of their games get shifted to national television.
Again, that projection for that game against Utah is Sunday, February 9th, actually.
That's Super Bowl Sunday.
I think it is, right?
And that's a 1230 start.
Be better if it happens like the next game at Pittsburgh, which is, by the way, during their,
that's the first game back after the All-Star break.
But he's probably going to do it this year.
And it'll be a massive story.
Real quickly, I wanted to mention that Maryland football and Maryland basketball,
because that's something I truly do have a love for.
Maryland's game Friday night basketball-wise against Marquette was a really good basketball game.
For you, Terp fans that listen, I was really excited.
Look, November basketball is definitely not something you can hang your hat on and say,
oh, we're good.
I think this looks like a much better team, certainly offensively, than it was last year.
And it's really clear, I think, too, that Derek Queens are the real deal.
And by the way, I would guess a one and dunner.
24.7 rebounds, three assists. He's exceptional.
And Jacoby Gillespie, the transfer from Belmont, you know, who was going to replace
Jamir Young? That was the big question heading into this season.
Well, it's going to be Gillespie. He's outstanding.
He can really shoot it, can really score is outstanding in the pick and roll game.
He had 24 as well.
And, you know, I saw a lot of people online saying, you know, Juju's not going to play as much.
He's probably not happy.
He had 10 rebounds.
They're not as good a rebounding team without him in there.
I think they're just going to be nights where the matchup dictates that they both play
and other nights where just one of them plays, you know, at a time.
It's tough to put Queen and Reese on the floor at the same time when you're guarding a team that's more guard heavy, that's smaller.
It's just not a good defensive situation unless you're going to end up playing some zone, which I don't think Kevin wants to play much of, although he does, and he plays that zone that sometimes doesn't look like a zone and then does look like a zone.
He does a great job of disguising his defenses.
But they had a chance.
Deshawn Harris-Smith as they furiously came back from, you know, down nine, eight or nine.
It was a close game throughout.
And Harris-Smith knocked down a three, hit another shot, and got to the free throw line with 14 seconds to go with a chance to tie it.
And he missed both free throws.
A shame.
I really want to see him get more confidence.
I am not as down on him as some of you are.
I think he can really add something.
I think he's excellent defensively.
There's just, I think offensively, there's just something confidence-wise missing.
I was hoping he'd knock down those free throws.
They'd go to overtime.
They'd win, and it would have been a big boost for him.
I think the way he played down the stretch should have been a big boost.
But Maryland is certainly on track to have a better season, I think, this year.
They have games upcoming.
They have Villanova, who stinks this year,
on Sunday.
You know, it's at the same time
as the Cowboys Skins game, so I won't be
watching that. I'll record it.
They have Ohio State and Purdue early.
Purdue's on a role right now,
even without Zach Eady, and they play
Syracuse before
the end of the year. They're going to
have to get some of these wins. That's what hurt the other night
is they had a chance to beat the number 15 team
in the country, and they didn't get it done.
Those are the games that kind of add up at the end of the
year. And I think if they had won that game,
they would have been close to, if not ranked, this week.
But I was impressed, really impressed with Gillespie and Queen, like Rodney Rice a lot as well.
Terps football, disappointing year.
But I'll say what I've said before.
You're not getting rid of Loxley, if that's what you really want.
First of all, he's the most successful coach the program's had since Ralph.
Three straight bowl seasons, three straight bowl wins.
And, you know, he was without the quarterback that left.
them for the last three, you know, three bull seasons.
And they took a step back. And I don't think Edwards is terrible, but he's not as prolific
as a passer as Leo was. I think they're big issue, and it wasn't necessarily the issue
in Saturday night, but it's just been their inability to run the football more than anything
else. But it certainly looks like the Terps are going to finish without a bowl in 2024.
They're four and six with Iowa and Penn State. They'd have to win both of them. And they're not
going to do that.
Yeah, that's it, I guess, for the day.
Back tomorrow with Tommy.
