Starting point is 00:00:02 You don't want it. You don't need it, but you're going to get it anyway. The Kevin Sheehan Show. Here's Kevin. From the east to the outside, line open touchdown, Tucker Ram. Easy pitch and catch. Jordan Love and Tucker Kraft all night long. That one came with just about nine minutes to go.
Starting point is 00:00:29 Green Bay actually needed to answer. The game had tightened up score-wise. But they had the answers all night long. I'm in for a quick postgame show following Washington's 27 to 18 loss at Lambo. The presenting sponsor, as always, Window Nation, 86690 Nation, windownation.com if you need new windows. Just an FYI, I'm going to put out another show Friday afternoon. All right, so another show tomorrow afternoon.
Starting point is 00:00:59 That'll include Jay Gruden with his normal Friday appearance. all of my smell test picks for the weekend, and I am going to have a few college games for tomorrow night, for Friday night. I will tweet those out so you can follow me on Twitter if you're not already, if you want to get those picks at Kevin Sheen, D.C. I will also include them as part of the smell test weekend picks on the show tomorrow. All right, my game take coming up in the next two segments, what I like, didn't like in a few other observations. Let's start with this in terms of the big takeaway from tonight. It wasn't a hard one to figure out.
Starting point is 00:01:41 Green Bay was the much better team in this game. It wasn't close. There's a long way to go in this season, obviously. But as of right now, the Packers are a really, really good defensive team and a very capable offensive team. They look like a legitimate Super Bowl contender. It's early. but they provided our team with an early season reality check. The reality check being that against a really good team, not name the Giants,
Starting point is 00:02:12 Washington's not anywhere near good enough right now, not up front anyway, especially on offense. Tonight was an ass kicking. The scoreboard did not reflect the ass kicking that it was. This was a one-sided beat down by the Packers, and it started at the line of scrimmage, where Green Bay dominated both sides of the ball, especially though their defense versus our offense. It was a lot of Micah Parsons.
Starting point is 00:02:42 God, he's good. He was a game wrecker all night long, but it wasn't just him. And then on the back end, and the all 22 will tell the tale on this, but I've got a pretty good hunch that there weren't a lot of people open during the course of this football game.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Zone coverage, much of the nethered. night eyes on the quarterback, and yet guys weren't that open. It was sticky coverage for sure. And tonight, Jaden couldn't do what we've seen him do before. He did not put a cape on and do it himself. He had very little time. Pass protection was a problem all night long. And then with nobody open, he didn't do what we've come to expect him to do.
Starting point is 00:03:26 And that is create and make a play. where it looks like there is no play. I don't think he was confused as much as he was contained. The Packers dominated up front, they covered up all of Washington's receivers, and then they contained Jaden Daniels and did not let him impact the game with his legs the way he's capable of impacting the game with his legs, whether it's as a runner or create more time and throw the ball down field. And that leads me to this.
Starting point is 00:04:01 I didn't like the plan tonight. I did not like the plan offensively. I think they had to run the ball tonight, and I don't think they tried enough to do it. Where was the tempo that we've seen over the last year? That can help to suppress a pass rush a bit. But you know what would have really suppressed the pass rush? Is a running game.
Starting point is 00:04:23 That would have been a huge help. I did not think that they tried it enough. Bill Krosky Merritt clearly, you know, based on his snap count, and I haven't seen the final snap counts, but he's not ready for a lot of snaps because they were throwing the ball and they clearly do not trust him like they do Echler and they do McNichols in pass pro. Speaking of Echler, you know, that's going to be another big story coming out of this game are the injuries. This team took a beating on the field and they left. beat up. There are a lot of injuries, uh, and we won't know until tomorrow or maybe the next day, the seriousness of them, but I think Ecklers looks like an Achilles. I mean, they called it
Starting point is 00:05:10 in Achilles. He got carted off. It was non-contact. I'm sure we're going to find out by sometime tomorrow that he's out done with an Achilles injury. That's my guess. Dietrich Wise carted off as well. That looks serious. They called it a quad. How about Bates? He had a Groin left the game. Brandon Coleman left. He came back. Noah Brown left the game. And then Jaden rolled an ankle late in the game, even though he didn't come out of the game. So Washington got banged up during the game, but the Packers started the game without two of their starting offensive linemen. Something we talked about on yesterday's show, I said, if they're two starting offensive linemen who are on the injury report are out, that is a huge
Starting point is 00:05:56 advantage for Washington. They were missing their star right tackle and their left guard that they paid a lot of money to bring banks in from San Francisco. The sub that came in at right tackle actually got benched after the first series. So couldn't even take advantage of their injuries. And then we were getting injured in the process. Offensively, it was a really bad night. Again, in the trenches, especially. Defensively, not much better.
Starting point is 00:06:27 you know, off that impressive season opening shutdown of the Giants, we learned tonight that the Packers are not the Giants. You know, that's part of tonight's reality check. Let's hold off on crowning our new defense as the 85 Bears. They're not quite there yet. Jordan Love did whatever he wanted to do, especially in the first half. And really, the only reason the Packers didn't score more than 27 points is they had a ton of penalties. They also missed a field goal. And, you know, the second half, Washington got some pressure, blitz pressure in particular, and it worked a bit.
Starting point is 00:07:03 But the damage had already been done. It was a bad night. You know, similar to that Thursday night game last year in Philadelphia, where Philly was clearly the better team, but like the score didn't reflect it when you got into the fourth quarter. It was a bad night across the board. But a big part of the bad night really was that the opponent. was really good. The Packers, two games in to the 2025 season, have beaten last year's one seed badly and one of the two teams that participated in the NFC championship game last year badly. One in one is the record through two games in just, you know, four days. Ten days off now.
Starting point is 00:07:49 The injuries will be the story tomorrow and for the next few days, hoping for the best, but expecting the worst on Echler. That would be my best guess on him. Dietrich-wise, you know, that could be a big loss, and you know what, they need him against the run. Tonight's loss could turn out to be a very costly loss. We'll find out in the next few days. Meantime, the Raiders are up next a week from Sunday at home. They play the second half of the Monday night double header at home in Vegas against the Chargers. So Washington will have their biggest net rest advantage of the season. They'll have four days of rest over the Raiders who will come east for a one o'clock game
Starting point is 00:08:35 a week from Sunday off of a late Monday night game. All right, let me get to my game take. We'll do that after a few words from some of our sponsors. Starting point is 00:10:27 Samuel breaks loose. Out past the 40. Into Greenberry territory, and that's exactly what Washington was looking for to start the second half. I guess that was the best play of the night for Washington. Debo Samuel's 50-yard kickoff return to open up the second half. They were only down 14 to 3 at the break, even though it seemed like. It was worse than 14 to 3, but they couldn't do anything with that great starting field position.
Starting point is 00:10:54 And that drive ended with Matt Gay's second missed field goal. This segment of the show is brought to you by Window Nation. All right. Let's get to my game take. Pay attention.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Here's Kevin's Game Take. My Game Take, as always, is a list of things that I liked. That list tonight is not very long. A list of the things that I did not like. That list is much longer and a few other observations. I guess there were a couple of things you can point out if you are trying hard to find something nice to say about this team. After it's 27 to 18 loss at Lambo. By the way, that's seven straight loss.
Starting point is 00:12:18 now in Green Bay. They have not won in Green Bay since 1988 against the Packers. Number one on the list is Debo Samuel for me. His big kickoff return to start the second half was the biggest play of the night. He took another
Starting point is 00:12:34 kickoff out from the end zone and I said on Sunday after the Giants game don't do that. Please don't return kicks that fly into the end zone for touchbacks. Take the ball at the 35 but I think he was just trying to make a play. The offense wasn't able to do much, and he was hoping to perhaps give the team a spark like he did to open up the
Starting point is 00:12:54 second half. He had seven catches for 44 yards, had a really nice catch and then run for a first down on a third and 10 on that drive in the fourth quarter that ultimately made it 27 to 18. And then on that drive, he caught the touchdown pass from Jaden Daniels. Quick hitter, I mean, Daniels got destroyed on that throw. Good job by Debo. to catch it and then to really, you know, kind of bull his way and find a way into the end zone. He's a tough after-catch runner. Debo Samuels on the list of things that I sort of liked from the game tonight. Treasway and punt coverage.
Starting point is 00:13:35 Yeah, we're going there early on this list. Punt coverage. Tressway was great despite, by the way, being questionable for the game. He had four punts, averaged 46.8 yards per punt. three of the four inside the 20. The coverage was outstanding. Three punt returns for Green Bay, one total yard. Percy Butler had a great play on a punt early in the game.
Starting point is 00:14:01 He got flagged initially for unnecessary roughness, but he didn't think the runner was down, and they picked up the flag, which is exactly what they should have done. This team covers kicks well. They gave up a decent kickoff return to the rookie from TCU, Savion Williams, but their special teams coverage units look good again here early in the season. They were good last year.
Starting point is 00:14:28 Number three on the list of things that I liked. I'll throw Terry and Ertz on this list. I'm being kind here. But on a night where you're looking for something nice to say, they both had a couple of really good contested catches. Terry had to bat one up in the air to catch it himself on the fourth. drive of the first half. Ertz had a couple of catches that were super contested.
Starting point is 00:14:53 And then he had the touchdown on a very nicely designed play. You know, they used Echler on a wheel route to kind of clear it out. The flow of the play starts going to the other side. And then Jaden comes back to Ertz. He makes a nice catch and gets it into the end zone. So Terry McClureen and Zach Ertz, I'm being kind here, but they're both on the list. I'll throw in that the defense in the second half got aggressive, appeared to get a lot more pressure on Jordan Love than they had in the first half.
Starting point is 00:15:30 Now, I think they did that with multiple extra pass rushers at times, certainly at least one. But after a first half where, you know, the defense gave up drives of 96 and 92 yards. In the second half, they forced some punts, they forced some. field goals. Love was 13 of 18 in the first half for 214 yards and didn't get sacked in the second half, six of 13 for 78 yards and got sacked twice. An improvement defensively in the second half, but still, it was not a great night for the defense. All right, let's get to the list that is much longer, the list of things that were rough from this game. I'll start with this. They were
Starting point is 00:16:16 dominated in the trenches. Green Bay's really good. There's no doubt about it. We knew that coming in. I talked about it two days ago, talked about it a lot on the show earlier today on Thursday. You know, the fact that they had two of their starting offensive linemen out, which was something that I thought could be huge and yet still coasted, tells you how good they are. They had Tom, their right tackle out, banks, the guy they brought in from San Francisco, their left guard. out and yet this defense got shredded, especially in the first half. That was disappointing. Then, you know, on offense, I mean, where to start? Connerley Jr. is young. He's taking some lumps right now in his first few games. He might need a break. I was thinking tonight, maybe they need to put Wiley in there at right tackle. Maybe he needs to play in week three.
Starting point is 00:17:11 This is not, you know, a season in which we're just developing young players. you know, winning games and winning big is the goal this year. And if Connerley Jr. is not ready against some of these, you know, good teams, then let's go with the veteran. But it's not like he was the only one. The rest of the O line did not hold up at all. They were overwhelmed up front. The pressure was constant.
Starting point is 00:17:37 It was quick. Micah Parsons was unblockable. Van Ness, you know, Rishon Gary, Cooper. The rest of them just feasted. on Washington up front. So number one on the list of things I didn't like, they got beat up in the trenches tonight where a lot of football games most are won and lost and they lost big in the trenches. More specifically about offensive pass protection, Jaden was under siege, under duress all night long. Four sacks, 12 QB hits. The pressure.
Starting point is 00:18:16 numbers are ugly. He was pressured on 46% of his dropbacks the most of his young career. I mean, it was all night long. Forty-six percent of his dropbacks pressured the most he's ever been pressured in a game as a professional. And then my God, versus mostly zone, there weren't people open, certainly not quickly enough to give Jaden some easy answers. I think we're going to find out that, you know, they primarily got pressure with four because that's what it seemed like to me. And they had seven in zone coverage and it was sticky. Like there wasn't a lot of separations. There was not a lot of separation. The catches that Terry made that Ertz made, these were contested catches. Um, so number two in the list, you know,
Starting point is 00:19:11 specifically just getting absolutely overwhelmed upfront offensive. That was really, really bad. Again, the pressure number, the highest it's ever been on Jaden in his young NFL career. Number three on the list. I didn't like the plan tonight offensively. And especially considering the early trouble they were having protecting the quarterback, you know, with all eyes on Jaden in that zone coverage, which just makes it harder to make plays with your legs,
Starting point is 00:19:44 especially against a fast defense that's playing zone. Why didn't they run the ball more? Why not more of Bill? Crosky Merritt, J.C.M., Bill Croskey, whatever you want to call him, Bill. Why not more Bill? The score never really got out of hand, even though the game felt out of hand, but it wasn't. They never gave the run game a chance. And maybe it wouldn't have worked either.
Starting point is 00:20:10 but on the few carries that Bill had, he looked pretty good. Four for 17 yards. That's more than four yards per carry. I would have tried to run it more until that didn't work. You know, 12 running back carries on the night, 48 called pass plays, 42 pass attempts, but 48 called pass plays. 12 running back runs. you know, the score allowed for a legitimate attempt to run the football more.
Starting point is 00:20:45 I didn't think it was a good night for Cliff Kingsbury. Honestly, you know what tonight was? Tonight was one of those nights where you're playing such a good defensive team that you can't outrun them, you can't out-flank them, you can't out-stretch them. You've got to match it with some muscle. The plan was a bit soft tonight. It really was. Look, I'm a believer in everything they've been doing over the last year,
Starting point is 00:21:14 and I even thought it worked a lot on Sunday. They're really good at making you defend the whole field, but they played a defense tonight. We may look back on it and say, that's the best defense Washington faced all year, but there are other really good defenses on the schedule that they will face. And I thought ultimately the plan coming in was a bit, soft and a bit too finessey, which by the way, works for them.
Starting point is 00:21:42 But once it became clear, you could not protect your quarterback and you weren't going to be able to sit back there and chuck it around the park, you got to try to run the football. You have to. And I thought that they had a kid that ran it four times pretty effectively. Next on the list of things that I didn't like. look, Jaden did not have a great night. It certainly was not about him tonight. You know, the protection as we talked about, receivers not getting open, but he did not overcome the limitations of everything around him. You know, he's done it before when past protection wasn't
Starting point is 00:22:22 great. He's done it before when the running game wasn't there, but not tonight. Now, I think a big part of it, the Packers defense, is just lights out like they were against the Lions on Sunday. So again, Maybe it'll turn out that the Packers are one of the, if not the, best defensive team in the league. They have the personnel, that's for sure. But Jaden, in his first two games of 2025, let's be fair here, he's not been super sharp when he has been able to throw the football. Not consistently anyway. He's made some really good throws.
Starting point is 00:22:57 He made some good throws tonight. He made a lot of good throws Sunday. But his accuracy's been a bit off. Tonight, I would blame it on the pressure for sure, but we've seen him in the past under heavy pressure getting hit, deliver more consistently. And then beyond that, make more plays off schedule. He also tonight made another bad decision on a zone read. He did it in the giant game. I talked about that earlier in the week.
Starting point is 00:23:24 He pulled it when he shouldn't have pulled it. And tonight, he left it in Echler's gut when he should have pulled it. Second drive of the game. The edge defender crashes. Jaden would have had a big play had he read it correctly. Look, this has been a bit of an issue going back to last year. The Zone Read, the option game, he's not a consistently great decision maker. His quarterback guru, Taylor Kelly, was on with me last year.
Starting point is 00:23:55 I asked him about that, and he said, yeah, there have been some wrong decisions in the Zone Read game. So, you know, we've talked about him having no flaws last year. That was, you know, a small knit to pick. But that play in particular, you go back and watch that play. That edge is crashing. Echler ends up with minus one yard. Jaden would have had the edge to himself. It's a double-digit yardage run and out of bounds.
Starting point is 00:24:22 He's got to read those better. But look, you know, it was not a great night for him, but the truth of the matter is that the Packers, you know, just completely outclassed Washington's offense with their defense. The supporting cast around Jaden was completely outclassed. The 230 yards of offense, the fewest in any game that Jaden has started for the skins in the NFL. And again, the 46% pressure rate the highest of any game that he has played. in. Next on the list of things that I didn't like. Defensively, also outclassed, up front for sure, but definitely in the secondary, where Marshawn Latimore had a dreadful night. Wow, they picked
Starting point is 00:25:13 on them. They threw on them. And of course, along with everybody else, they committed penalties. Sanristil, Harris, Martin, you know, Kwan Martin, I'm talking about. People were open all night. craft, wicks, dobs, musgrave. I mean, it was easy pitch and catch for much of the night. Jordan Love is outstanding if you give him time. Wow, is he good? I've been a fan of Jordan Love. If you watch tonight, you know why the people that like Jordan Love like Jordan Love. He can flat out spin it. He can really throw, he can carve up a defense, especially if you give him time. and that's what he had in the first half. 13 of 18 for 214 yards,
Starting point is 00:25:58 had a long touchdown called back by a penalty. The only thing that really slowed the Packers down were penalties. They had 10 of them in the game. Some of those penalties, to be fair to the defense, were forced. But 27 points seemed like the least amount that Green Bay should have scored based on their domination. First half alone, they had 274 yards and a half. On just 34 plays, they were at like 8.3 yards per play in the first half.
Starting point is 00:26:32 The defense was not terrible against the run, but it wasn't good. You know, Jacobs got what he needed when he needed to get it. No takeaways again for the defense. That's zero through two games. You know, a game like this one, if you're going to win a game like this one, later in the season against another really good team on the road, you're going to need a takeaway or two to win these games. Certainly against this team, it would have helped a lot.
Starting point is 00:27:01 I guess Amos had a shot on the fourth and three that they went for. By the way, you know, that fourth and three, I don't know if you noticed, the Packers, you know, kept the offense out there, and somebody from the field goal team ran out onto the field, which allowed the referees to hold up play. We saw that with Washington. Washington was forced to call a time out late in the game. If you're going to sub, if you're going to come in with a new package,
Starting point is 00:27:29 you've got to do it super early in the play clock because the defense has the ability to counter and the referees have to stand over the snap, not allow it, until the defense has had a reasonable amount of time to make substitution. But yeah, that fourth and three was one of those plays where Lafleur was upset. But Love had a chance. It was probably the worst throw of the half for him because he was a little bit under thrown on the ball to Dobbs.
Starting point is 00:28:06 Was it Dobbs in the end zone? And Amos broke it up. Amos had a chance at a pick. It would have been a bad pick because it was fourth down. They wanted the ball back where the line of scrimmage was. But really, they did not have many chances for takeaways. So they are two games into the season, zero takeaways. But on the flip side, they have not turned the ball over yet.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Also on the list of things that I did not like. More drops in this game. Noah Brown had a big one in the first half on third and nine in Green Bay territory, and it was still a 7-0 game. Drops have hurt this team in the first two games. The coverage was outstanding, but that Noah Brown drop was right in his hands. He's got to make that catch.
Starting point is 00:28:52 I think he got held and it should have been called, but he still has to make that catch. What in God's name was going on at the end of the first half? That is obviously on the list of things that I did not like. You're down in the game 14 to 3. You take over with two minutes and two seconds to go from your own 43-yard line and you don't use a timeout. just the clock kept running.
Starting point is 00:29:19 It was as if they had no confidence that they were going to get anywhere near scoring a touchdown. The goal from the jump was to get into field goal range, not think touchdown, just field goal. And if that was the goal, then they didn't need the clock to stop. And they certainly didn't want to give Green Bay more time. But that's just so unlike Dan Quinn, two minutes and two seconds to go. go and the ball's at your own 43, you've got to go get a touchdown. You got three timeouts. What are you doing? That was really painful. But in the moment, I was like, wow, they have zero confidence right now in the offense, in the ability to, really the ability to protect, you know,
Starting point is 00:30:07 Jaden in particular. Remember, the first play after the two-minute warning was a run. Actually, the first two plays after the two-minute warning were runs. Echler up the middle for three. Echler up the middle for five. And then Tunsell false started. And now there was a 10-second runoff. Washington could have taken a timeout to avoid it. They didn't.
Starting point is 00:30:31 They're at the Green Bay 41-yard line. Come on, man. It's second and 10. You've got to still be thinking touchdown. They didn't. They thought field goal the whole way. Look, maybe they were like, we have to get into the locker room here. We got to try to get three, not be down by more.
Starting point is 00:30:48 We get the ball to start the second half. We got to fix up and coach up and scheme up some pass protection. So we can get some positive plays. And of course, you know, they miss, they settle for a 58-yard field goal with 19 seconds to go after an incompletion on third down. So you had the option, fourth and four to punt it. You had the option fourth and four to go for it to try to get better field goal range because you had timeouts left. And they sent Matt Gay out there to kick a 58-yard field goal. He had made one.
Starting point is 00:31:25 He had made his first field goal of the year. It was a 51-yard kick. But the 58-yard field goal was wide left. And that gave Green Bay the opportunity to get into field goal range because they took over at their own 48. They had timeouts left. and they had McManus out on the field after they carved Washington up on two plays because they couldn't stop the pitch and catch effort. Actually, the pitch and catch was to Wix,
Starting point is 00:31:53 and then they ran Jacobs up the middle for eight yards. And McManus hit the upright from 48 yards out. He hadn't missed a kick in a while. And we went to the break, 14-3. So on the list was the end of the first half. On the list of things that I did not like Matt Gay, one for three on three attempts, all of them over 50 yards, but in this league, 58, fine, but 51 he made, 52 you got to make.
Starting point is 00:32:20 52 in 2025 is the old 42. Like, you got to make 52. You get beyond 55, we can, you know, we can give you some latitude. But 55 and in, you got to make those kicks. And if he makes both of those kicks, the game's actually 14 to 9. How about this for something I didn't like about tonight's game? The wasted field position. Do you know how good their field position was tonight?
Starting point is 00:32:53 They had 11 drives. Their average starting field position was the 37-yard line. They had drives start at the 45, the 43, the Green Bay 44, and the 50, along with three drives that started at the 35-yard line. The Packers on the opposite end had bad starting field position. They started three times inside their own 10. Washington had a major field position, starting field position advantage in this game, but it did not matter.
Starting point is 00:33:26 Did not matter. Anything else on this list? No. I'll hit my other observations when we come back after these words from a few of our sponsors. This episode is brought to you by prize picks. Guys, football season is back. Wasn't it fun to have the NFL back this past weekend? My favorite daily fantasy sports app during football season is prize picks.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Prize picks is fun, it's exciting, it's a game of skill, and it's very easy to play. Prize picks present you with stat projections on players, and all you have to do is pick more or less. Like last night in the Monday night game, I had under 49 and a half rush yards for Aaron Jones in part because my guy Paul Chartian out of Minneapolis told me that Jordan Mason was going to be a very big part of Minnesota's rush attack. I cashed on that one. Aaron Jones had 44 yards rushing. I also went over Caleb Williams on passing yards, 2.18 and a half. And he threw for 210. So I didn't cash on that one, but it's so much fun to play. And that's the example. They give you numbers, stat projections, and you just go more or less.

Starting point is 00:35:46 That's code Sheehan to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. Prize picks. It's good to be right. Last number is good from 51, and Gay's pick this time is no good. Yeah, bad night for Matt Gay, one for three. He's struggled from 50. and out going back to last year. I don't know if they'll bring in kickers during this long mini-buy week,
Starting point is 00:36:18 but it wouldn't be a bad idea to work out a few just in the event that it happens again against the Raiders a week from Sunday. I don't think that making those two field goals would have been the difference between a win and a loss, but I do think had he made those two field goals, you'd have a lot more game pressure, on Green Bay. They never really felt it maybe a little bit at 17 to 10, but they answered that with a long drive and an easy touchdown to Tucker Kraft. This segment of the show is brought to you by MyBooky. If you want to bet on football, my recommendation is to go to the Kevin Sheeonshow.com slash my bookie. And when you get there in the promo code section, type in DC Reload. Starting point is 00:37:15 So you put $100 in, you get $50. You put $400 in, you get $200 extra into your account. The Kevin Sheeonshow.com slash my bookie and then promo code, erase whatever's in there, and type in DC Reload. All right, the other observations from the game. Why go for two down 27 to 10? You know, I understand the down two touchdowns, you know, and you get to down eight to try to go for two,
Starting point is 00:37:47 because you're going to win the game, and if you miss it, you'll have that opportunity with the second touchdown. I don't love that necessarily, and I think context plays into that, but I at least understand the math. Down 27, 10, if you're trying to win the game, go for two after you score, the next touchdown. Down 27, 17, and you really want to win the game,
Starting point is 00:38:14 you're going to need a field goal and you're going to need a touchdown. And if you decide to go for two then, fine. I don't know why you go for two there. I think most teams make it a 10-point game. I don't know. Somebody's going to probably send me something that says, the latest version of two-point analytics says, down 17, you score, you go.
Starting point is 00:38:37 and cut it to nine. I think you cut it to 10, and if you're going to win the game, going to try to win the game in regulation, you go for the two on your next touchdown. Now, it would be the same, I'm talking myself into this being not the worst thing in the world, it'd be the same thing in the down eight scenario,
Starting point is 00:38:57 down 14 you score a touchdown. You go for two earlier rather than later, so you know what you need. But anyway, They converted the two-point conversion. You know, the score of tonight's game, 27 to 18, was almost identical to the score in Philadelphia last November on Thursday night football. That final score was 26 to 18.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Now, they had to go for two there. They were down 16, and they did. They scored, remember, very late and went for two, and the final score of the game was 26 to 18. Laramie Tunsell had a false start, led the league in him last year. and had his first fall start of this season. Ben Sinait caught a pass tonight. I don't know if you caught that,
Starting point is 00:39:45 but it was a nice little dump over the middle. Ben Sinit was in there a little bit in the game. Bates was out, you know, so I think Senate was in there for him. He had a catch for seven yards in the game. By the way, there was a missed. There were some miscalls tonight, I think maybe against both teams, but the worst miss call of the night was a third and six early in the third quarter.
Starting point is 00:40:13 Jaden hits Ertz. Really good throw, good catch, low. Ertz makes the grab. Jaden, who took an absolute mauling all night long. This one was number 58 to the head. This was helmet to helmet. You saw number 58 look around right when he hit him. He led with the helmet, hit him with the helmet, to his head.
Starting point is 00:40:35 helmet. How that didn't get flagged, I have no idea. But that would have been an extra 15 yards. And, you know, at the time in the third quarter, I think it was still, it was 17 to 3 at the time. They missed that call. Lastly, just one thought on Micah Parsons. You know, the, a lot of talk about that trade. You know, Dallas fans not so upset. Dallas maybe not. willing to pay him the 47 million. There's a lot to what Dallas did that made sense and a lot to what they did that didn't make sense. They should have done it much earlier. But there is no doubt. I have no idea if the guy really is a problem in the locker room or was in Dallas. Players were getting sick of him. He is an absolute terror as a pass rusher. He is so good. And he's so good
Starting point is 00:41:30 in so many ways. They line them up all over the place. He can beat you with speed. He can beat you with moves. He can beat you outside or inside. He sets up his rushes so well. He had six pressures in the game. He only had a half a sack, but he had three QB hit, six pressures. He drew two penalties. I mean, he has made an already very good defense, potentially the best in the league. Washington had no answer for him tonight. that was a bit of a wake-up call tonight. You know, I was optimistic. I know I picked Green Bay to win 31-27,
Starting point is 00:42:13 but when I heard that the two offensive linemen were out, I was on a pre-game show with my guy Denton Day and Linnell Willingham, a 9-80, and I said, you know what, if those two guys are out, I'm switching my pick. I'll pick Washington to win 31 to 27. What we saw tonight was something we haven't seen since that Thursday night game against Philly last year.
Starting point is 00:42:34 Now, they were beat up coming into the game off of that game against Pittsburgh. They were facing Vic Fangio, you know, Philly's defense. But the two best defenses, that defense of Philly last year and tonight, Green Bay, they're the only teams that have really been able to slow Washington down at all. And Philly did not do it in the rematch in December and really not in the NFC championship game. That was self-inflicted damage all game long, not to make. mention a terrible defensive effort, but it was a bit strange to see them so inept. And they've got to get better up front. We were hopeful that they had improved up front. And I'm not saying that they haven't.
Starting point is 00:43:20 I think they have. But it certainly got tested tonight after there was a lot of optimism after the opener against the Giants. And the reality is they got a long way to go if they're going to to get through some of these really good teams and really good defensive teams in the NFC. And then defensively, let's face it, a lot of optimism on that side of the ball. And it was a lot about what the Giants were. Let's be clear. Russ Wilson is a backup quarterback and the Giants were inept on offense. And Green Bay isn't.
Starting point is 00:43:59 And that's why they rolled pretty easily. I'm still encouraged by the talent infusion. I think Kinlaw is the real deal. Losing Wise will be a big deal if he's out for a while. That will hurt. I think the secondary, the discussion about the secondary being, you know, somehow turning into a really good NFL secondary. I mean, Green Bay does not have the greatest receivers.
Starting point is 00:44:26 They've got a lot of them, and they got a really good tight end, and they were turning around our DBs. all night long, all night long. I mean, route running, you know, classes being put on Latimore and Sanra still. Maybe a little bit less on Amos. I'll have to go back and look at the game. But, you know, four days, picture hasn't changed for me. I still think this is a really good team.
Starting point is 00:44:55 They weren't going to go 17 and 0, but it would have been nice to have 17 and 0 as a dream for at least another 10 days. Tough loss, better team won. I mean, that's not even up for debate. All right, back tomorrow. Jay Gruden will be on this show. I'll have my smell test picks. And that'll be a quick show too,
Starting point is 00:45:16 but I'll get that one out tomorrow afternoon.
