Starting point is 00:00:02 You don't want it. You don't need it, but you're going to get it anyway. The Kevin Chean Show. Here's Kevin. If they don't get a yard here, he's got about a 43-yard attempt to take the lead. Oh boy, juggled it. Lucky he came away with it, and then he gets slammed out of bounds short of the first down. I would have kicked the field goal.
Starting point is 00:00:27 I would have. Down 12, 10 with 8 minutes to go, 4th and 2, especially. after second and third down runs netted a loss of one yard, I would have kicked the field goal for the lead. I don't know if it would have made the difference ultimately, but I would have kicked the field goal. But I also think that there's a reasonable explanation for going for it. I'll get to that when I get to my game take. The show's presenting sponsor is Windonation. Call them at 86690 Nation or head to Windonation.com. if you need new windows.
Starting point is 00:01:04 I'm in here about 40 minutes following the game. This will be a quick recap. 30 minutes or so, my initial thoughts on the 26 to 18 loss in Philadelphia. I'll put another show out late tomorrow. Jay Gruden will be on with me for that one. I'll have my smell test picks for the weekend on that show as well. Let me begin with this, just a bit of a theme. which I wrote down kind of late in the game.
Starting point is 00:01:36 Adversity, it's here. You know, we knew it would arrive at some point. And I'm not talking about adversity for the team. The team does have a two-game losing skid right now. I'm referring to the adversity that Jaden Daniels is faced with for the first time in his pro career. The Pittsburgh game Sunday was his first average game. Tonight was his first bad game. Is he 100% healthy?
Starting point is 00:02:07 I don't know. Probably not. The rib injury, I promise you, as I said on Monday, it was said to me with insistence that, yeah, he's sore, but heading into the Pittsburgh game, it was improved from the week before and much improved from two weeks before, which would have been the first week following the Carolina game, the game against Chicago.
Starting point is 00:02:31 I also told you that Logan Paulson had reported during the game last week from the sideline that he had injured his hand, that he had cut his hand in the game against Pittsburgh. And you saw it a night. He cut his hand. Kaylee Harttung, I think her name is. She had the whole, you know, they had the shot of the hand with the blood in between the pinky and ring fingers. And she reported that they were using a sterile super glue. on the sideline to clot it up,
Starting point is 00:03:03 which is exactly what Logan spoke to on the radio broadcast during the Pittsburgh game. I have no idea if it's the same hand or the same area on the hand. I would assume that it would be. But look, I would love because of the way I feel about him, I would love to be able to say about the performance tonight, yeah, it's about him not being healthy, you know, and chalk it up to injury. but I don't think that that explains everything. I don't.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Perhaps it was the short turnaround. You know, Sunday to Thursday, I don't think that explains it all. I think he looked really confused tonight. I'm not sure if it was more on him or the game plan or the play calling, but he didn't look like he was confident in anything for much of the night.
Starting point is 00:03:57 We have not seen that look at any point this year. Not last week, not even in the opener. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has been one of the best for years, and his defense is playing excellent football right now. I think tonight his experience trumped everything Washington was trying to do offensively. And I think it led to Jaden Daniels looking and playing like a rookie for the first time now. this year. It doesn't hurt, by the way, that Fangio has legit talent on that side of the ball to make everything happen. Jalen Carter was dominant. I mean, he is really good. You know, there were a few decent moments offensively, most of them courtesy of Austin Echler, but for the majority of the
Starting point is 00:04:51 night, they got whipped up front and the quarterback looked off and looked confused. night was his first bad game. Tonight resulted in the team's second straight loss. But this one's clearly more on him and the offense than on any other part of the team. So adversity, which we talked about early in the year and wondered, you know, how he would handle it when it finally came. Well, we're going to start to find out a week from Sunday when they host Dallas. You know, it's a bit of a soft landing of sorts, Dallas is these days, but there's still an NFL team. And it's a spot where Jaden's going to have to shrug off tonight and bounce back with one of his A-level games,
Starting point is 00:05:41 which he's had plenty of this year. He can do it. We know he can. We've seen it a bunch this year. Two losses, two step-back performances for him. The one tonight, a major step-back. He didn't get much help on offense. That's true, too.
Starting point is 00:05:59 But he's the quarterback, and he was the one most responsible for getting them to seven and two, and they're now seven and four. And he's got to bear his fair share of the two straight losses. Seven and four is still a great spot to be in in the NFC. They're a playoff team as long as, you know, that brotherhood that they've been talking about, you know, while they were winning is real. There's still a playoff team if the coaching staff goes to work, comes up with some answers to some of the things that they were not able to handle tonight, especially tonight. There's still going to be a playoff team if their young star quarterback stares down this first tough moment and comes back firing against Dallas.
Starting point is 00:06:47 We talked about earlier in the year, when would we know for sure that they got it right with Jaden Daniels? Well, he had so many great games in a row. It was like easy to say, we know. But it's still so early in his career. Rookie seasons are supposed to be, you know, up and down. You know, a lot of up and down. And he's treated us to mostly ups. But how he handles this will give us a lot more information than we've had so far.
Starting point is 00:07:21 I'd bet on tonight's game being the aberration. I'd bet that this is just a blip, and it turns out to be, you know, a valuable learning experience for him and for everybody else on the offense. There aren't a lot of coordinators and teams that are going to be able to do what Fangio and Philly did tonight, or even what Pittsburgh did on Sunday. You know, I said last Friday that these two games back to back were going to be big time tests, perfect time to test this team at 7 and 2. Two best opponents, you know, other than Baltimore that they face. You know, the three of them all have strengths, weaknesses. I think Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are more complete than Baltimore. The offense, you know, that first test Sunday against Pittsburgh, got to see.
Starting point is 00:08:11 Tonight, more like a D-minus. And I think these two games, while we learned a little bit, they're not defining. They're not. Tonight tells us that Philadelphia is really good, better than Washington, certainly right now. There's time to improve. There's a rematch in five, five and a half weeks. But the Eagles proved tonight that they are the team to beat in the division. They've got a game and a half lead and they've got a game in hand head to head. I also think they proved that they have a top-tier defense that is playing as well as any
Starting point is 00:08:51 defense in the game right now, and combined with the two to three superstars that they have on offense, I think right now you would say that Philly is the biggest threat to Detroit in the NFC. Tough night. Really tough night overall. And I did not like the way it ended at all. That will be in my game take. I'll get to that right after these words from a few of our our sponsors. Is there anything better when you're a football fan than this time of year? It seems like there are games on around the clock. It's a changing time of year. The weather gets chillier. The leaves start to change color. And then those leaves, they fall from those trees. And they clog up your gutters. Don't miss the game because you're climbing a ladder to clean out your gutters. Let's start with what I liked.
Starting point is 00:11:36 There were a few things that were worthy of this list tonight. Austin Echler, I thought, played really well. Eight catches, 89 yards, had that initial catch on that first. touchdown drive, the second drive of the game, which was a four-play drive. I mean, they got in there quickly. 34 yards. It was all him after the first, you know, 10 or so. He did have that one drop on the tipped ball in the first half that he probably should have caught. But he's just so good after the catch. He's so good as a runner. He's so good as a kickoff returner. Yes, he did fumble a kickoff return tonight, but they recovered it. Walker, number 32, jumped on it. He's
Starting point is 00:12:22 very hard to get a square hit on. I just love Austin Echler and what he's brought to this team this year. He's very valuable, and Brian Robinson, Jr. being back tonight, you know, there were moments for him as well, and the two of them were, you know, in that backfield together, a bunch, you know, in that 21 or 22 personnel, I think it's actually 20 personnel. at times, you know, two backs and either one tight end, two tight ends or no tight ends. It's creative the way Cliff uses them in the backfield together. The only thing I don't love about it, and I may be wrong about this, but when you've got two backs and you go play action, which they do occasionally,
Starting point is 00:13:07 you basically have one less eligible running routes. You know, I mean, one of the backs gets out there, but I don't know, Echler's great. You know, another good night for Austin Echler. He really was the star offensively on a night when, you know, they didn't throw the ball to wide receivers at all. I mean, Terry had one catch. Zakeas had one catch. Noah Brown and Diommy Brown each had a catch. I mean, for like a total, I think of like 25 yards. You know, Echler had eight catches, Ertz had six, Bates had two. You know, Brian Robinson. had one. I think McNichols had one. But, you know, my first, what I liked was Austin Echler. Number two on the list of things that I liked. The defense in the first half, specifically, not the second half, you know, but they were ready to play. The Eagles obviously self-destructed a lot in the first half.
Starting point is 00:14:06 They had two missed field goals. They had a couple of penalties. They had a couple of drop balls. They had a very badly timed flea-flicker play. But the defense stood up pretty well in that first half. They held Barclay in the first half to 3.7 yards per carry. As a whole, Philly's offense managed in the first half just over four yards per play. They did decide primarily to load the box with eight, you know. Sometimes it seemed like more. They had five-man fronts, six-man fronts.
Starting point is 00:14:42 But the coverage behind it in the first half didn't see. suffer that terribly because they got pressure. It's almost like they're playing the run as a run blitz or playing the run with a bunch of players in the box, but moving forward. So if it is play action, they've got, you know, a pass rush as well. And they had a pass rush tonight. I don't know. The first half was another sign for me that the defense has gotten better the last two weeks. The second half, not so much. We'll get to that here momentarily. specifically player-wise, I thought Louvo was excellent. I think he's their best defensive player.
Starting point is 00:15:21 I don't even think it's debatable. Two sacks. He beat Lane Johnson on one of them. He's only one of the best right tackles in the game. He got pressure all night. He's the one that got in the middle of that flea flicker and blew it up. He did get away with a face mask where he grabbed the helmet opening on, I think it was Barkley, right?
Starting point is 00:15:42 or was it gain well. I'm not sure why they waved it off, but I just love Louvre. He's just all over the place. I love the way it's very kind of unpredictable snap to snap, how he's going to be used. But he's also, I mean, Fowler's got eight and a half sacks. I don't know what Louvue has now.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Does he have seven on the year, something like that? He's climbing the list. But I think he's their best pass rusher. I think when he is lined up as a pure pass rusher, He is their best pass rusher. I mean, Fowler Jr's good. I think Armstrong's good as a pass rusher. Sack-wise, Fowler had eight and a half.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Louvoo's up to seven. All right. Louvoo's now up to seven sacks on the year. So a sack and a half behind Fowler. I thought Sanra still showed well tonight. I thought he did a really good job in coverage. You know, especially when he was double-moved a couple of times, I think once by Smith, once by A.J. Brown.
Starting point is 00:16:42 in the end zone, made good plays to break up those shots in the end zone. He stood out to me defensively tonight. That's a quick rundown on the list of things that I like for now. I will update that on tomorrow afternoon show after I've had more time to go through it. Just first blush here. All right, what I didn't like, that's kind of an easier list after a game like this one. The offense, we'll start with that. You know, talked about it a little bit in the open.
Starting point is 00:17:12 One decent drive in the first half, and not much really after that to hang your hat on. There were a couple of throws on the drive that ended with the fourth and two, which I'll get to with Jaden. But 264 total yards of offense, I mean, that's one of the worst offensive outputs of the year. 70 of those came on the last drive with Philly, I think playing a bit soft. They were three of 12 on third down. Third down was a problem all night, but two of those came on. that final drive. They were one for nine on third downs before that final drive. One of the keys was to stay on the field, to keep the defense off the field, to drive it. They led the league in points
Starting point is 00:17:57 per drive. They led the league in drives, the highest percentage of drives ending in points. Not tonight. One for nine on third down. That will not keep you on the field. It was not. not pretty either more times than not on third down. I didn't think personally that they ran the ball enough, in my opinion, but it's not like the numbers say that they should have. Brian Robinson, Jr., 16 for 63, not terrible, you know, at 3.9 yards per carry. Not great, but I don't know. I felt like there were opportunities maybe to take a little bit more pressure off a quarterback
Starting point is 00:18:40 that looked confused much of the night. That's next on the list. Jaden's on this list for the first time this year. You know, first of all, talking about running the ball, he wasn't effective as a runner in any situation. Seven carries, 18 yards. They had two true designed runs, quarterback counters. I hate that play.
Starting point is 00:19:05 It got, you know, stopped cold on both times. Those weren't quarterback draws. Those were quarterback counters. I'm pretty sure they were. He was 22 of 32 for 191. 45 or 50 of those yards, though, came on that final drive. His misses were bad misses. I mean, they were in the ground, you know, short of the target.
Starting point is 00:19:27 Ugly misses. You know, he didn't look comfortable throwing the football at all. He looked really, he was indecisive. He looked confused. It's the best way to put it. I think Fangio confused everything. everybody on offense tonight and had a rookie quarterback that he was up against and he confused him. He got picked once and nearly got picked on the first throw of the night.
Starting point is 00:19:53 That was, I think, what PFF would describe as a turnover-worthy throw. He hasn't had many of them this year. He tried to squeeze that first third-down throw on their first drive of the game into Noah Brown's hands, and that did not work. There was that one drive when they were down 12 to 10 that he looked like Jaden Daniels throwing the football. Those were the sharpest throws of the night. He went four for five on that drive for 43 yards
Starting point is 00:20:23 as they got into that fourth and two situation. Had his one completion to Terry on that drive, fired one to Ertz on that drive, had two balls to John Bates on that drive. the offense briefly came to life for a moment, and then they ran the ball twice for a loss of one yard and then came the fourth and two, which I will get to here shortly.
Starting point is 00:20:50 But overall, he just looked off. He looked confused. He seemed to hold it too long at times. I thought maybe there were a couple of opportunities to unload it quickly. And there were definitely, at times, I think, opportunities to hit a checkdown. Yeah, it's also true that the offensive line didn't hold up well at times. It was the same case on Sunday against Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 00:21:17 But Jaden was a D in this game. That is by far and away the lowest grade of the year. I gave him a C plus last week and he followed it up with a D. So he is facing this first stretch of kind of playing like a rookie. Last week, though, he had a lot of big-time throws, and there were a lot of drops, you know, missed opportunities just barely, you know, and drops that didn't help. This week, you know, tonight, it wasn't, it looked like a rookie performance. You know, he wasn't inept by any stretch of the imagination.
Starting point is 00:21:59 You know, he looked good on that one drive to get him to fourth and two, and the final drive of the game, he hit a couple throws again. Philly was playing soft. But, you know, the offensive line I mentioned, that would be next on my list. And one player in particular, Brandon Coleman has had two pretty rough games back-to-back against Pittsburgh. Look, he was facing Alex Highsmith. And tonight, you know, Josh Sweat, Nolan Smith, I mean, it's not been easy for the rookie.
Starting point is 00:22:26 But he has really struggled in pass pro the last two games. and I think the interior of the offensive line, and I can't be specific right now, but Jalen Carter had his way. I mean, how quickly was he in the backfield? Philadelphia had three sacks. They had eight total tackles for loss, so they had five other TFLs in the game. I'm going to put Cliff Kingsbury on the list of things that I didn't like.
Starting point is 00:22:57 I think he should be on this list. You know, this is always hard because, you know, was it more? him, or was it more the players, or was it just that Philadelphia is an excellent defensive team? Which, by the way, is true. I would assume that Jaden being confused as much as he was at times, that there may have been a way to make it easier for him tonight, more quick game, more quick stuff, you know, stick with the run a bit more. I'm not sure. I mean, maybe I'll have a better answer tomorrow. It's hard for an offensive coordinator. I can tell you that. When the other team has the ability to just rush four and drop seven.
Starting point is 00:23:38 And by the way, the 11 players, the four up front and the seven behind are all good. You know, that's the dream for a defensive coordinator and the nightmare for an offensive coordinator. And, you know, there were, I'm pretty sure two of the three sacks were four-man pressures. Maybe the other one was a five-man pressure, and I think a lot of the pressures were four-man pressures. I mean, when you can do that, that is a true luxury. Philadelphia, guys, Philadelphia, legit, upper tier defense right now. I don't know where they are on a lot of the numbers. I'm going to look at those
Starting point is 00:24:18 tomorrow, but I watch tonight a deep into the postseason playoff team defensively with a couple of superstars offensively. On the list of things that I didn't like, the second half defense. I mean, Philly had the ball four times. They scored three touchdowns and kicked a field goal. They didn't get a stop in the second half. Philly had 270 yards of offense in the second half on just 28 plays. That's 9.6 yards per play. Again, I thought the defense did a nice job in the first half, and they probably really, at one point I think I tweeted out, the defense is gassed. Like the offense needs to go on a drive here. And by the way, that'll play into my fourth and two reasonable explanation. Look, Barclay is one of the most impactful offensive
Starting point is 00:25:14 players in the league, period. They've got a big time offensive line. They have a good change of pace back, by the way, in Gainwell. They've got star receivers. They've got a star tight in and they've got a quarterback that's playing, you know, error-free football right now. Philly's very talented on both sides of the ball. But it was a bad, rough, and you can explain it to being on the field too much, maybe. But, you know, when you give up 270 yards on 28 plays, not a good half. And I know a couple of those drives were kind of with the game starting to feel like it was slipping away. On the list of things that I didn't like, I got to be honest with you, I don't know what the hell they were doing when they fell behind.
Starting point is 00:26:01 26 to 10. You know, I felt like the game was over. I mean, like everybody does. But, you know, you also understand that when Philly scored to make it 26 to 10, there's four and a half minutes to go. The kickers already missed, you know, an extra point. That's why it's 26 to 10. He's also missed two field goals.
Starting point is 00:26:22 What a bad night, you know, for the Philadelphia kicker Jake Elliott. But once you decided down. as you should have decided to go try and get a quick touchdown and a two-point conversion, well, you go and try to get a quick touchdown with a two-point conversion. And they weren't doing anything quickly, and they didn't use any of their timeouts. And so not only that, the play calling, they ran the ball multiple times. Now, there was one run. I think there was a third and,
Starting point is 00:27:01 it might have been a third and two or something like that, and they ran it just to get the first down real quickly. It was a second and five. They ran a draw to McNichols, and he picked up the first down. Okay, but then you've got to start taking shots down the field or getting to the sideline or using your timeouts. The key was to score before the two-minute warning and get the two-point conversion and have at least one timeout.
Starting point is 00:27:27 left. And they got to the two-minute warning, and they were still only at the Philadelphia 24-yard line, and they still had two timeouts in their pocket. And then it got really hideous. They took so much time. They never used a time-out, and when they scored the touchdown, there were 28 seconds left in the game. That's absurd. That is bad clock management. You know, once you get below the two-minute morning and you've only got two timeouts left. Now you've got to use them on offense. You know, you've got to save the 20 seconds in between the hurry up. Because if you do recover the onside kick, which is now a necessity, because you've gone
Starting point is 00:28:11 under two minutes, then you're going to need some time to move the ball down the field. Like even if they had recovered it, we would have been almost in Hail Mary mode. It was a bad job of doing what they were doing. I'm sure some people were saying, well, you know, they've got a quarterback and he's not 100 percent. Well, then take him out. You decided you were going to go down and try to score, but you didn't decide to do it the right way. If he wasn't totally healthy, put Marioita in the game, the object is still to win the GD game. You're down 16 points. That's two touchdowns and two two-point conversions. We've seen crazier things happen. There wasn't a minute,
Starting point is 00:28:56 38 left in the game. There was four and a half minutes to go, 438 to be exact, when Philly scored to go up 2610. And Washington ended up scoring and getting the two-point conversion with 28 seconds left in the game and still holding two timeouts. That's poor clock management. They didn't, you know, by the way, Zach Ertz, great job on the two-point conversion. Great job by Jaden may have been one of his best plays of the night. You know, he extended, extended, extended, and extended, and then through to Ertz, and Ertz somehow got, you know, that second toe down for the two-point conversion, and then they didn't get the onside kick.
Starting point is 00:29:40 And look, you know, if you are really hustling and you're not calling four running plays, you know, before the two-minute warning, you got a shot to maybe get down and score before the two-minute warning, having maybe, maybe. use one timeout. You don't want to use one time out. You'd love to have the two and score before the two minute warning. But if you score just under it and you have two, you're going to have a chance to get the ball back. But it was not handled well at all. And I got to tell you, man, I used to be the biggest Al Michaels fan. He has so lost it. He used to be so good at understanding, you know, score, time, clock, distance, the whole thing, game situation.
Starting point is 00:30:30 He and Herb Street never even discussed down 16. Well, you know, if they get a touchdown of get it before the two-minute warning, they weren't even thinking about it until they actually converted the two-point conversion and then all of a sudden it dawned on them, oh, they're down by eight. they might actually kick it on side kick here. That'd be pretty wild if they got it. Embarrassing broadcast down the stretch. He used to be the best, the best.
Starting point is 00:31:05 All right, I'm going to come back for one last quick segment to talk about maybe this fourth and two play. And what I thought was a big lost opportunity in the game. So let's go to the fourth and two because I didn't put this on the bad list or the things I didn't like list because I actually think there's a reasonable explanation for what Quinn did.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Now, in the moment, I was like, no, no, no, no, no, no, kick the field goal. It's a 44-yard field goal. You're at the Philadelphia 26. There are eight minutes left in the game. It's 12 to 10. All right, you've actually driven the ball for eight, nine plays, something like that. Taking four or five minutes off the clock. You've given your defense a little bit of a rest.
Starting point is 00:33:13 But I, you know, you got to take the lead here. And the primary reason for thinking that way is that on second and one, Robinson got stopped for no gain. Jalen Carter was in the backfield. And then on third and one, he got stopped for minus one, which set up the fourth and two. So you went backwards on second and one and third and one. I don't like it. Now, do they have a good play? Do they feel really good about fourth down? They've been really good on fourth down all season long.
Starting point is 00:33:43 Maybe they got a really good play for fourth and two that they haven't used. but in that spot, I'm kicking the field goal. Now, the reasonable explanation would be this. You know, a field goal is not going to be enough against Philadelphia. They have just gone 10 play 74 yards and kicked a field goal, 11 plays 76 yards, and scored a touchdown. And if you have a sense that your defense is starting to break a little bit, it's gassed, it's not just bending, it's about to break big time,
Starting point is 00:34:20 then you're probably thinking, we need to get a touchdown here. You know, at the very least, we need to, you know, maybe take a few more plays and run the clock down a little bit more before we put our defense back on the field. But I think the reasonable explanation is a field goal is not going to be enough. It's not going to be enough because our defense is gas, They've been on the field too much already in this game. They've been on the field in back-to-back drives.
Starting point is 00:34:49 Actually, if you go back to the end of the first half, Philly had scored on three straight drives. And that would be, I would have kicked the field goal. I would have said, you know what, I've seen my defense come up with some stops, come up with some sacks. You know, I've seen Philadelphia self-destruct a couple of times with penalties, with drops. I've seen Philly miss two field goals and a PAT already tonight. So I'm going to take the lead, and even if they come down and get in field goal range, there's going to be a lot of pressure on that kicker who's had a rough night. I would have kicked the field goal for all of those reasons.
Starting point is 00:35:29 And in the moment, the reasons for me were really, wait a minute, you just went back-to-back plays minus one. but if Quinn felt like they had a really good play and they've been really confident in what they've been doing on fourth down and that he felt like a touchdown was going to be needed or at least, you know, a little bit more time off the clock, I think that that's not an unreasonable thought. I would have kicked the field goal, though. I have no idea what the analytics say. I have. I'm sure it says fourth and two, go for it in that spot. I would have kicked the field goal because the context of the situation was back-to-back runs minus one. And of course, the play was doomed from the start when the snap got bobbled by the quarterback. I'll be honest with you. I don't even know what the play was.
Starting point is 00:36:25 It looked like there was a pulling guard. So I think maybe it was going to go to Robinson or maybe it was play action with Jaden then keeping the ball and going boot right with a receiver? I don't know. Honestly, I need to look at it again to find out. Lastly, I wanted to mention that I thought there was a key sequence in the first half. So when Washington took that 7-to-0 lead, Philly went 3 and out. All right? Washington got the ball, not in great field position for that next one. It was from their own six-yard line after the punt, and they didn't move the football, and they punted it back. But then, Philly missed a second field goal, but this was a long field goal from 51.
Starting point is 00:37:11 And Washington took over from their own 41 with a 7-0 lead in the second quarter. Philly struggling, missed two field goals. You know, not feeling good. The crowd was a little bit out of it, and I thought that was the moment. You got to go down. You've got great field position. You know, two drives ago, you went down and scored in four plays. You got to go down on this drive, and you got to go down on this drive,
Starting point is 00:37:35 and you've got to get points, you've got to get a touchdown, and now the pressure, the game has tilted big time in your favor. And Jaden went back-to-back sacks, and I'm pretty sure those were four-man pressures. Maybe one of those two was a blitz. But, you know, it was the big lost yardage, too. Big lost yardage. One of them was like a nine-yard loss. I thought that that was the drive.
Starting point is 00:38:02 You know, they had another opportunity after they forced a, three and out, and they got the ball to midfield and had a third nine and Daniels, you know, missed Echler on that tip. That was the tip pass that Echler should have caught. And that would have kept, he would have moved the sticks with that one. That was the worst play for Echler all night, a lot of good plays. But that third and nine with, I don't know, five minutes to go in the first half, it was Washington's next to last drive of the first half. And yeah, there was about $450 left. And if he catches that, I'm pretty sure he gets the first down.
Starting point is 00:38:44 He's running a crosser after it had been cleared out for him. And it's a bit of a checkdown crosser. He's there. And I think he runs for the first down into Philly territory. And they're on the verge of potentially going up 10-0. or maybe 14 nothing and getting the ball to start the second half. That was a key sequence too. But the one at the 41 when he got sacked, in that moment, I was like, you got to,
Starting point is 00:39:10 you got to go do this right now. This game is for the taking here early in the game. And I was still, of course, thinking that four play touchdown drive was what they're capable of doing again and again tonight, because we've seen that during the course of the year. But they really didn't do that at all the rest of the night. Also, by the way, the end of the first half, if you're not going to try to score, if you're not going to throw a Hail Mary from midfield, then just take a knee with 19 seconds left.
Starting point is 00:39:38 Why are you running plays? They ran, you know, Echler checked down for 18 yards. It got him to the 49-yard line with 12 seconds to go. So what are we doing here? You know, let's go for it. And they, you know, with four seconds to go, they just ran the ball to Brian Robinson up the middle. Why not take a shot at a Hail Mary? All right, you don't want to risk the quarterback?
Starting point is 00:40:00 Okay, that's fine. Well, with 19 seconds left, you know, did you think, I guess you could have gotten in field goal range for sure. They needed to throw the ball a little bit further down the field. Okay, that's it. I'll be back tomorrow.
