But you're going to get it anyway.

We're going to get Tommy's thoughts on the game.
Sunday. He wrote a column about it. Are you excited about the debate, interested in the debate,
intrigued by the debate? Are you going to watch the debate tonight? I love presidential elections
and kind of some of the history associated with this. People are saying this might be the most
important presidential debate of my lifetime, maybe your lifetime as well. What are
thoughts on it? Well, I've done as much as I can to block out the political discussion for the past,
I'd say six weeks or so. Because I didn't like the way things unfolded and the coverage in particular.
In your party? Meaning Biden forced out? Okay. Yes. Yeah. I think that making decisions on a July
debate is foolish.
I think making decisions about debates are foolish.
So I don't like the fact that this has gained so much importance, but I recognize people
believe that.
So I'll watch it, but, you know, I mean, I just don't understand the kind of voter who
after watching a debate changes their minds.
It's the voter that only tunes in for debates
Okay, well then I can't relate to that
Okay, I understand you can't relate to that
I am
I'm actually very, it's not the excitement
I was very excited to watch the game on Sunday
That was for real
But I am definitely going to tune in
You're going to watch tonight, aren't you?
Yes, I'll be, I'll watch tonight
I'll watch tonight, but, you know, I'm, I mean, you know, I've got a lot of concerns and worries moving forward.
Did you know?
I'm not optimistic.
Well, I don't think many people are in either of the two choices.
Did you know, and I didn't know this until over the weekend, and I was watching, you know, some of the programming on Sunday morning before all of the football games started,
football game stuff started.
Did you know that after the very famous 1960 Nixon Kennedy debate in which it was the first ever
televised debate and Nixon wore a very light colored suit which made him make him look pale
and sick and Kennedy understood TV, understood how he would look best on TV.
Did you know that after 1960 there was not another debate?
scheduled until
1976.
And I, the
reasons for it is obviously in
64, LBJ had taken
over for an assassinated
president. And then
in 68,
it was such chaos,
you know, in the 68 convention
in Chicago, LBJ
decided that he would not seek
the nomination of his party.
And then you had the RFK
assassination, etc. You ended up with Hubert Humphrey being it. Now, you did have a period of Humphrey and Nixon in the
fall leading up to the 68 election. The McGovern Nixon election, which is one of the landslides of
all-time landslides, there was no debates. And we didn't get a debate again after 1960
until we got Ford and Carter.
And the thought about that debate was that Ford did not do well in that debate.
Carter did much better.
Carter then was completely thought to have screwed up the 1980 debate,
even though he was losing a lot of ground anyway with the Iran hostage situation with gas prices,
the whole thing, his match up against Reagan, who, by the way, also, there was a
third candidate that participated in that debate, John Anderson, who ran as an independent.
Yeah.
He got about 6% of a vote, I think.
And he, Tommy, he lived literally right around the corner from my house.
And during that election in 1980, I mean, there were secret service all over the neighborhood.
I lived in this neighborhood where a lot of politicians lived.
I think I've told you this before.
Nixon's Secretary of Defense, Melvin Laird, do you remember that name?
Oh, yeah.
He lived right across the street from me.
Wow.
Yeah.
That's pretty amazing.
Yeah, there were a lot of politicians in the neighborhood.
Ted Stevens lived down the street.
I delivered Ed Muske's newspaper, Ted Stevens' newspaper as I had a lot of paper routes when I was a kid.
I had the post.
I had the star.
The Star was the afternoon paper. The Post was the morning paper, but on the weekends, it was the Post and the Star. I delivered both. I always had a job when I was a young person. My father pretty much insisted that I always work. But Muskie and Stevens and Melvin Laird and there were several others that I can't even think of right now. Yeah.
You know, in 68, there were no debates, but there was very much a television marketing of Richard Nixon.
There's a fabulous book called The Selling of the President by Joe McGuinness.
One of the great political books of all time that talks about how Nixon was packaged as a candidate in 68 with town halls that were set up for his face.
that were taped, that were broadcast, and things like that.
And the guy who ran that was Roger Ailes, who then later became the president of Fox News.
I was going to ask you if it was Pat Buchanan, who, but I do remember, because I've read a lot about
1968, there was a really good series that CNN did on 1968 in 2018, which was,
was the 50-year anniversary of basically a summer in which most of our major cities were burning
to the ground in a lot of areas. But what you said about these town halls was a significant part
of either that series or something I read. And they were all essentially staged with Nixon people
in the crowd. And he knew exactly the questions that were going to be asked the whole thing. But,
You know, this was Nixon's...
It worked for them, and it's ironic because he recognized...
I mean, it was television that partly did him in 60,
and then he used television and media to basically win the election in 68.
He was kind of the first comeback kid, wasn't he?
Yeah, and hired the guy who would change television news in Roger Al.
Right.
That summer in the Democratic Party was just nuts.
I don't think there's any doubt that RFK probably wins the nomination if he stays alive.
Eugene McCarthy, who was the major anti-war candidate in the Democratic Party
and definitely the most progressive, far-left candidate in the party.
he had a massive young person following.
But after Robert F. Kennedy's death, he really kind of went away.
He didn't have his heart in it.
The things I've read is that essentially that was his primary rival during that campaign during those months.
It was March, April, May, June of 68.
RFK was assassinated.
I think it was June 5th, 1968 at the Ambassador.
LA after giving the speech after he won the California primary.
But Eugene McCarthy basically just lost his gumption, lost his desire after that.
And it ended up being McCarthy, not McCarthy, excuse me, Humphrey at the convention that came through.
You know, he had the most backers.
Yeah, it's just that that's a fascinating campaign.
and summer to read about.
Yes, it is.
That's the stuff.
I've told the story before.
I won't go into in detail.
But that's the year.
I lived in Miami that summer.
Right.
You worked for the Republican convention.
I worked for Rockefeller.
Yeah.
At the Republican convention.
I was 14 years old,
and I talked my way into the campaign headquarters at the airport,
and then at the campaign headquarters in Miami Beach.
You know, folding envelopes, carrying placards,
meeting delicates as they got off the plane chanting,
win with Rocky, win with Rocky.
That's crazy.
It was pretty cool experience for a 14-year-old kid.
Now, were you, as a 14-year-old in 1968,
had you become concerned about having to go to Vietnam?
Oh, yeah. And look, I wasn't necessarily political in 68, you know. I mean, I wasn't, you know, at the age of 14, I don't think I understood the concept of the whole anti-war political movement per se. I mean, the only reason I did it for Rockefeller was because I was from New York and he was a governor of New York. So I recognize the name. And my parents who were Democrats still like Rockefeller.
But he was a pretty liberal republic.
Yeah, he was very, very moderate.
So, I mean, I connected because of the name recognition and being from New York City.
It wasn't necessarily some big political belief.
I just thought it would be a blast, and it was.
Well, thank God you had not yet burnt down your fraternity house at that point,
because maybe they wouldn't have hired you.
Although I doubt you would have included that on your application form.
Oh, I don't know.
I don't know.
That seems like I could have qualified for Nixon's dirty tricks.
Yes.
Yeah.
You could have been involved in a lot of that stuff, which started, of course,
with, you know, Pentagon Papers and California and all that stuff.
And ended up with this little break-in in June of 72 that's been written about
and movies have been made about over the years.
Anyway, I'm going to watch tonight.
I bet it's going to be, like, I think in part it's like almost rubbernecking.
Like you're just expecting an accident and you're going to sit around and watch to see what happens.
And that will be the whole, and that will be the focus of the coverage then.
You know, this is why I don't like what they've become.
It's who can screw up, not who could win, but who can lose the debate.
who's going to make the big mistake?
Let's see if there is actually, I'm going to my bookie right now to see.
I mean, how do you set odds on a debate?
Because it's all subjective.
There's no score keeping.
I'll let's face it.
I mean, here's, okay, hold on, hold on.
Yeah, go ahead, go ahead.
I'm figuring.
People aren't going to like hear this, but the bar is much lower for one candidate than it is for the other.
Yeah, I think this is a much bigger night for her than it is for him.
U.S. presidential elections debate.
What are the...
Oh, here are some of the odds at my bookies.
The first candidate to say Hamas.
Trump is minus 400.
Kamala Harris.
Kamala Harris is plus 250.
What will be said first?
This is a good one.
Will it be referred to as Twitter or X first?
Twitter is the favorite at minus 200.
X is the underdog at plus 140.
First time Harris laughs.
In the first 30 minutes of the debate, will she cackle minus 170 after the first 30 minutes
plus 130?
And it goes on and on and on.
Oh, here's a good one.
Trump and Harris to shake hands.
What do you think the favorite is here?
I would say no.
Yeah, no is a massive favorite.
Minus 400.
Yeah, there you go.
My bookie is not just for your sports betting, boys and girls.
They got everything.
They always have a lot of this stuff, you know, especially award shows and stuff.
You can bet on a lot of that stuff.
They limit you in terms of in a lot of this stuff because sometimes there's information on this stuff.
out there. Donald Trump, by the way, right now for the presidential election is a very, very slight favorite at minus 120.
Harris is at plus 100. Also, let me just mention, as long as we're talking about my bookie right now.
So Washington plays the Giants on Sunday. And I actually have a little tidbit on that game here in a moment.
Week two, the Giants are in town.
Washington right now at My Bookie is just a one-point favorite.
They were yesterday two and a half-point favorites.
Now, unless there's been some sort of injury that I don't know about,
or did the Giants make a decision to bench Daniel Jones
and start the backups Drew Locke?
I don't see that as information that's out there.
That just means there's some sharp money,
and I guarantee you the public money's on Washington.

Tommy. Daniel Jones, since signing his contract, his current contract, which was signed prior to the
2020 season, where he got a four-year, $160 million deal. After that very good giant season,
Brian Daible won coach of the year, they beat the Vikings in a playoff game before losing to the
Giants. He signs that big deal. He has thrown, since signing that big,
deal in 2023 and now one game in 2024. He has thrown more pick sixes than touchdowns.
Wow. Like that's almost impossible to fathom. Now, he got hurt last year, if you recall,
and so he only played seven games before he got hurt. But in those seven games, including the one on
Sunday, and he threw a pick six to that Van Ginkle guy for the Dolphins, who also had a pick six
against Sam Howell and the skins last year in December when Miami came to town. He is one in six
in games started since that contract, and he has thrown more pick sixes, three of them, to the two
touchdowns that he's thrown in seven games. He has been an absolute terrible. He has been an absolute
terrible quarterback since signing that new deal.
Except. Except over his career.
Yes.
When he plays Washington.
Five, one in one against Washington in his career.
And I bring this up just to say it's only week two.
And I very much Tommy emphasized last week and yesterday on the show.
and I want to get your thoughts on the opener as well
about how you cannot, after one week, especially week one,
come to any sort of real conclusions on what you saw.
Week one year in and year out is a massive head fake, massive head fake.
And it's especially in today's game where you don't do anything in the preseason
and especially with teams like Washington that have completely,
changed.
But still, if the Giants come to town and beat Washington Sunday and Daniel Jones plays well,
and it's a big part of that, buckle up old AP and DQ because it's about to get real around here.
Oh, yeah.
Because, you know, I talked yesterday, and I think you wrote about it a little bit.
And again, I want to be clear on this.
This is not a group that even remotely compares to the groups that we've had around here.
I like this group.
I do.
A lot of benefit of the doubt involved.
But you and I did a show a week and a half two weeks ago that was titled Commander's Secret Sauce.
And there was a lot of positive vibe, a lot of talking about things like identity and secret sauce.
And they had not played a game yet.
And I even asked Dan Quinn about that when he was on my radio show a couple of weeks ago.
I said, do you really know?
I said, there's a lot of positive vibes and a lot of positive things being said,
but do you really have any clue until you play a real game?
And he said, not really.
You know, it takes sometimes a quarter to a half season.
And all I'm saying is Sunday was bad.
It was a bad, bad look.
but it's week one, it's the opener,
and the team they played was probably pretty good.
If Daniel Jones comes in and throws three touchdown passes
and for 250 and doesn't have a turnover and they win the game,
you're risking losing a lot of the positive, you know, kind of vibe and detention
that you're getting in the offseason leading into Sundays
opener because that will, no one will be able to convince anybody that that's just one game
and it's only two weeks into the season if it's a loss to Daniel Jones and the Giants.
You're spot on about all that. You don't want to overreact so early in the season.
And you're right, game one could not mean anything come week seven or eight or nine.
but they did not go down fighting.
Okay, you know, this wasn't,
and this is what I wrote about in my column,
you know, even with the turnover of the roster
and all that,
and the notion that, and I mentioned the system of the column,
it's not like all of a sudden, you know,
Adam Peters discovered he could shop at the good,
at the good players store, you know.
These were all a lot of bargain basement kind of,
of players that they've got, or reasonably priced players.
You know, all that said, okay, where would I go with this?
With all that said, what?
You were not impressed Sunday.
No, no, no.
I was not impressed with the way they lost.
Not that they lost.
Yeah.
You know, I went back and looked at some of briefly looked at some of Mike Shanahan's games from 2010.
the first year he took over.
And there was a lot of change in that roster.
And he had inherited a bad roster.
Right.
And there was a lot of change there, not probably as much as this one, but still a lot.
And in that 2010 season, which they won six games, I think seven or eight or eight of their losses were by a touchdown or less.
Yeah, they were a competitive team, except for that Monday Night Massacre to Philadelphia.
Yeah, except for.
Yeah, except for the Michael Vick game.
But you could sense that they were taking on a personality of their coach.
Okay, we didn't see any of that Sunday.
I think we expected it.
I think people expected it based on the conversations that came at a commander's park throughout training camp.
I think we expected to see a violent offense, a violent defense from Joe Witt,
and it wasn't there.
I thought we expected to see a competitive offense, and it wasn't there.
And that's the worrisome part.
Not that they might not be very good, is that the message isn't getting through.
I completely agree with that.
I hate to be in agreement with you here on the show today,
but I talked a little bit about, and I'm going to do it here too,
sort of a day after upon further review. I went back and watched the All-22. I watched the condensed TV
version. And I think that the one thing that Quinn would probably say, you know, and he said a little
bit of this yesterday in his presser, but this promise that we got all off season, and the promise was
not about wins and losses. The promise wasn't that they were going to be a playoff team. The
promise wasn't that, you know, we're going to turn this thing around. The promise was you're going to be,
you know, you're going to see a team that ends up having an identity where we play fast,
we play physical, we play to the whistle, we're competitive, and you're going to know that we were
in this thing. And that's not what it was Sunday. There was a lack of urgency. You know, I had several
people say to me, and two people who were at the game Sunday, they said it was just a dreadful day
that it was brutally hot. And they talked about that on the TV, you know, broadcast.
Yeah, they showed the thermometer. Yeah. And that... Like in the fourth quarter, it was over 90 degrees.
And the humidity apparently was overbearing. I mean, there were players that were, you know,
apparently IVs, you know, players getting sick, both sides.
okay, I mean, I'm just throwing out, you know, there could be context for certainly losing steam at the end.
And they did lose steam at the end. I mean, they were getting run on at the end.
And I did see some urgency, and I talked about this yesterday, Tommy.
One of the odd, quirky things about the game Sunday is that as bad as the defense was, and it was really bad.
their first down defense wasn't bad.
Like they had Tampa in nine different situations of second and 10 and longer.
And there is no coach anywhere that wouldn't say if we can get nine plus plays of second and 10 or longer, that's a good day.
They had six TFLs, but then they got absolutely torched on second and primarily third down.
and they couldn't get off the field.
But I'm with you on that.
I did not.
It's one game.
It's the opener.
There was a lot of confusion clearly on defense and secondary,
and that could account for the level of fast, physical, et cetera,
that was played because they were a little bit confused.
But I think we'll hopefully see a different team Sunday.
but Sunday for like the best thing that could have happened to Washington for this week two matchup
is if the Giants had played well and Daniel Jones had played well and they had won the opener.
Yes.
Because the perception now, look, like I opened my column, basically, what did you expect would happen?
they were playing a playoff game from last year on the road, you know,
they were bringing in a whole new roster of players to have won that game
would have been a remarkable statement, a game-changing statement,
to have gone to Tampa and beat the Bucks in the opening game
who have changed the conversation dramatically.
Okay.
And there would be a lot of excitement.
But to lose the game in the matter they did,
and then to lose a game that now the perception is that they should win,
they should beat the Giants, the Giants are bad.
You know, I wrote in my column, I said they play like their own by Dan Snyder.
But to lose that game, then the conversation is all too familiar.
unfortunately, even with a whole new cast of characters.
You know?
Yeah.
It's actually a good segue into this thing that I was going to read.
It came from Paul.
Paul wrote, Kevin, you are a hedger.
Ten and seven, but you picked Tampa Bay to win.
This week, you have no choice because ten and seven's off the table if they don't beat the giants.
Thank you, Paul, by the way.
I appreciate that.
No, I'm actually not a hedger when it comes to those things.
I picked Tampa.
Actually, I picked Washington to cover.
It was a short point spread.
The game actually went to three and a half three at kickoff.
These teams, at least on paper based on the boys in the desert, were even up when Tampa got the three points for being at home.
I did think Tampa's experience in the fact that they had the whole team coming back.
that I believe they're very well coached.
I'm a Todd Bowles fan.
I hated the way that they sort of tapped out in the Detroit playoff game.
I thought that that was not a very good thing to do.
But I like Todd Bowles, and I think Tampa's got a chance to be good this year.
So I did pick Tampa because it is new in the whole thing.
But no, I'm not backing off the 10th and 7.
But you know what?
Paul's note, and now the point spread dropping to 1.
to one and
Tommy, I just think, I don't know.
I haven't, I don't have any information.
I typically start to get my information in on Wednesday and Thursday morning from the people
that I get information from when it comes to public betting and sharp betting and
et cetera.
I think the public's going to be backing Washington in a big way.
And it's not because they think Washington's a good team because Washington got trounce
too.
but this Daniel Jones story and the giants being so God awful.
And yet Brian Dable says he's going to start Sunday in Washington.
And if you're Daniel Jones, did you see any of the video of him leaving the Meadowland Sunday?
Oh, my God.
Oh, it's terrible.
I mean, the fans are waiting for him to come out and they verbally abused him.
and he's probably, you know, so down in the dumps,
but then somebody close to him in his life,
I don't know if he's married, is saying,
yeah, but you're playing Washington this week.
This is where you always give giant fans some hope
that you can be a good quarterback
because you always play well and beat them.
Look, for both sides, I'm sure both sides are looking at this
as a get-right game.
this is a team that we can get right with.
Yeah.
That's true.
I mean, it's a big game for Washington.
I mean, the Giants are actually just kind of expected now to be in the dumper.
And this is, you know, in terms of the highlights of the week two Sunday NFL card,
this is not up there in terms of the games that people will be talking about.
But, you know.
Also, being a home game, the home crowd's first look, you know, the Giants haven't, even though they stunk,
I'm sure Giants fans haven't given up enough yet not to make the trip down 95 to watch your team play.
I don't know.
I bet this one is mostly Washington fans excited to see Jayton Daniels.
But what was the line that I read to you from Josh Harris in talking about the season?
I think it was something like, we better be better than last year.
Yeah, we better be better than that.
Yeah, we better be better than that.
I would imagine after the game Sunday with the Giants on tap, we better be better than that.
So we'll see.
Yes, but it would be a disappointment.
I don't care either way.
I have no rooting interest.
But for this,
it would just be a disappointment,
a huge disappointment
for the new ownership
to get beat
and look bad doing it
at home
against a bad team.
Because they have
they're pushing a boulder
up a hill with so many things
that they're deal with
that don't have anything to do with football.
You know,
and it would just be
disheartening.
Yeah.
It would just be so disheartening if you're, if you're trying to do the right thing and it's not
working, and, you know, you've got all these other things, you know, you're trying to,
you're trying to repair something that's been in disrepair for almost three decades, and nothing's
going right.
You know, if you're the owners, if you're the owners, Josh Harrison company, you sat on your
hands last year because there really was nothing you could do and watch Ron Rivera's, you know,
final dismal year, his mail me my Super Bowl ring year. And you figured, okay, now, you know,
we're going to have our fingerprints on it. It would just be, in a way, I'm pulling for Washington
because I would feel so sorry for these guys if they lost and then lost badly.
I am too.
And I, like, I want people to understand the conversation we're having it right now.
I'm only going to speak for myself here.
I'm not going to bail if they lose to the Giants.
This is a long game thing.
Yes, I predicted 10 and 7 for the season because I had a hunch that some of these things might come together sooner rather than later.
I had, you know, a strong hunch that the defense would be much improved.
And I still think that there's a good chance that'll happen.
not going to change my view after one game. But like if this is a typical rookie quarterback
season, lots of change season up and down, you know, and we do see some of that identity and some of
that secret sauce come together. And they're a competitive team like you had pointed out with the 2010
team, which, you know, they opened up with a win over the Cowboys that year. They lost a shootout
to the Texans. They were competitive in a lot of games. They were. They were competitive in a lot of games.
year, you know, except for that Monday night massacre, the Michael Vick game after, by the way,
they announced that phony, baloney contract extension for Donovan McNabb.
I know.
I remember that.
God, that was a wild week.
And, but I, I'm speaking more to what a lot of the fan used to be fan, people paying attention to this team reaction is going to.
to be. You don't want to lose to the Giants and Daniel Jones in week two. You have home games
against Cleveland. Like here are your next home games. All right, Cleveland's not going to bury the
stadium and opposing fans, although they got a shot. They got the Panthers. Then listen to these
teams that come to FedEx Field in order beginning in late October. The Bears, they've taken
over the stadium before. The Steelers, they take over every stadium.
the Cowboys and then the Eagles.
They do have the Titans at home.
Am I looking at their schedule properly?
Yes.
So you, you know, you got to keep, you're in a,
there's a business aspect to this franchise,
a marketing aspect to this franchise
that is not necessarily something
that a lot of other franchises have to worry.
about and have to be so dialed in on. But these guys who paid $6 billion for the team a year ago,
just over a year ago, and have done a good job with, you know, investing in the stadium. And
I think picking good people, you know, for now, I mean, to run the football operation and getting
back into the community and increasing, you know, their season ticket base. I don't know by how
much corporate people and sponsors getting involved. But, you, you know,
You want a competitive football team.
I think when Josh Harris said, we better be better than that.
What he's really hoping for is that from a business standpoint,
this is a competitive team where, you know, the season and certainly after the season,
it's obvious to everybody that the arrow is pointing up.
And a lost Sunday to Daniel Jones and the Giants would really, in the moment,
derail that a little bit.
You know, they could still get it back together and build it back up.
But if you beat the Giants and then maybe lose to Cincinnati and then beat Arizona
and then maybe lose to Cleveland and Baltimore, but beat Carolina and Chicago and the Giants again,
you just got to keep the season in play.
You know, they were.
I agree.
And I agree with all that.
If they were playing Baltimore Sunday at home, you know, or Dallas Sunday at home,
that's different.
It's just the nature of the opponent that'll be walking in to Northwest Stadium, Tommy, Northwest Stadium.
Actually, I've, you know, because I can't help but be who I am, Kevin.
You know, it's my nature.
I've come up with a different name for the stadium.
What is it?
Duct tape field.
That's in your column, isn't it?
Yes, it is.
Duct tape field.
rather than Ghost Townfield?
Yeah.
Yeah, I retired that one.
And I tried, really, Kevin.
I tried just to, like, you know, be a good boy.
And after Sunday, all the bad vibes came back.
Okay.
Well, duct tape, the references to their,
I mean, I don't think they're really using duct tape.
They've spent a lot of money on that stadium.
haven't they spent like $75 million?
$75 million.
Yeah.
But I'll bet you they've got a lot of people that walk around with duct tape on their belt.
Hold on here.
Hey, I need you over here.
We got a leak over here.
Let's see if we can get this thing plugged up.
Oh, boy.
All right.
I watched the all-twenty.
yesterday. You love this. No, I'm not a film breakdowner, okay? There's, honestly, there's,
there's some embarrassing things going on on the internet with people who break down film.
And I'm talking about people who have never, ever played the sport and probably haven't played
many sports in general. But upon further review of the game, there were just a couple of things
that stuck out to me that I want to share with you. Also, yeah, we need to,
get to the quarterback. Oh, you haven't talked about the quarterback. That's true. We'll do that and more
right after these words from a few of our sponsors. Hey, guys, I want to welcome a new sponsor. That sponsor is

All right.
Tell me what you thought of Jaden Daniels on Sunday.
Well, the one thing I pointed out my column that was really an extreme positive is in some chaotic situations,
he never turned the ball over.
I mean, I thought that was pretty impressive for a rookie making his first start.
He hung on to the ball.
He didn't wind up getting intercepted against a good defense.
And he didn't cost his team in that sense.
And I thought that was pretty impressive.
I give him a lot of credit for that.
You know, we saw a glimpse.
of what those legs can mean when you're playing defense is how good of a runner he can be.
Now, it's supposed to be a weapon.
It's not supposed to be the only weapon.
You know, there was too much running.
I think the coach has already acknowledged that in yesterday's press conference,
and he was too quick to go, but he's a rookie making his first start.
And he's got a lot of confidence in his ability to run,
and he ran well for the most part.
He's got to learn the slide, you know?
I mean, he took some tumbles, tumbled forward.
It didn't take any big hits per se,
but he's going to do much better
if he gets his friend Dylan Cruz from LSU on the Nationals
to give him a few sliding lessons.
You know, I can't, this is what I don't get.
I mean, didn't they work on that in training camp?
You would think at some point, you know,
when you have a quarterback you know
he's going to run the ball,
haven't you spent time teaching him on the slide?
Or am I being, like, ignorant about this?
He can slide.
He did slide at LSU.
I think that this is what he prefers to do.
I actually don't have a problem with it.
I think that the sliding, first of all,
you lose yardage because you are marked
right where you go into the slide.
There are a lot of vicious hits on, you know,
they're always flagged.
on quarterbacks that go into that slide.
I actually didn't have a problem with it.
I think that, you know, I saw last night,
I think Brock Purdy did the same thing,
kind of went into that forward thing.
I'm wondering if it's going to be something
that ends up being utilized more by quarterbacks.
I don't know, but it didn't bother me as much.
Okay.
The other thing is that, and these weren't turnover,
but every time, you know, once in a while, you'd see something rolling around on the ground,
and you thought, oh, my God, it's the ball.
No, it wasn't.
It was Jayden Daniel's helmet.
Yeah, he's going around on the ground.
Seems like he's got to tighten that helmet up.
True.
But he dismissed that in the post-game press conference.
Yeah.
You know, he said, basically, I've always done this.
People have always said that to me.
Right.
You know, like it's a look kind of thing.
You know, that's a little bit insane.
he's going to need all the protection he can get, including his helmet.
Because I have a feeling he's going to be running for his life a lot this season from this offensive line.
You know, we didn't see the downfield passing game in part because my impression was, you know,
he didn't have the opportunities.
Maybe he did more than I thought that he did.
But he felt the pressure, whether he was – whether he realized.
reacted too quickly to it or not, that he couldn't take advantage of any downfield opportunities.
I mean, Terry McLaren, he's just watching his career just go by here.
He had two catches.
You know, I mean, the poor guy.
He must be wondering what it must be like to play with a quarterback who can get him the ball, you know, nine or ten times the game.
overall, I give him a B-minus if I was grading him
for his composure and not turning the ball over.
And we didn't see anything I thought that would give us pause
to think that with time he won't be successful.
Right.
Yeah, I think, you know, it's just, it's the first game.
And if he had connected with Terry on that bomb to start the third quarter, and he was a superb deep ball thrower in college,
and I think they'll connect on some of those.
We probably would have felt differently about Terry's day.
But yeah, no, they didn't.
There just wasn't a lot for wide receivers in general.
I made the comment yesterday.
I think Echler and Robinson Jr. are really, along with Terry, their three best skill positions,
now on offense. We'll see how it plays out. So I had a couple of things kind of upon further review,
one of which I've already mentioned, which is, you know, there wasn't that level of, you know,
intense energy and urgency. And I think that they probably would tell you that that was a bit
disappointing. Number two is that, and I actually had Denton looked this up today because I didn't have
the next gen numbers. But in looking at some of this, you know, based on my limited kind of ability to
do this, I am not a film analysis expert, as many seem to play on the internet. I, um, I didn't see
receivers open a lot. That, and look, one of the concerns we had is after Terry, then who, you know,
So I think that when he went off schedule as a scrambler, there were a couple of times where I think if he had thrown the ball downfield, there were receivers who were open.
But even in those cases, you know, when a quarterback goes off schedule and extends a play, it's really hard for coverage people to stay with their guys or to keep them in their zones.
And there were a couple opportunities there, but not many.
Denton looked it up for me today.
Washington didn't have one wide receiver in the top 60 after week one in that category of getting open or separation from their defenders.
So that's going to be an issue.
You know, like Kingsbury, I didn't think I was rough on Kingsbury at all.
I actually very much talked about the one concerning play for me more than any other with Jaden Daniels on the podcast yesterday.
And that was the second and eight at midfield in the third quarter where he got sacked, he fumbled.
It was recovered by Tyler Beaudish.
But he had an opportunity to get the ball out, get it out quickly to two receivers who were open.
Ertz was open, McCaffrey was open.
and I think that he was good at that in college.
I was not a believer that he couldn't throw the ball over the middle.
I saw it happen.
I was not a believer in the pressure to sack percentage number
because I thought there was context around it.
But that was one of those plays where if you had this concern
about pressure to sack percentage or he struggles to throw the ball over the middle,
I don't know why he didn't throw that football over the middle.
But, you know, upon first,
further review, energy level. I didn't see wide receivers getting open enough. And I think that,
you know, that's going to be something to watch. You know, we may find out that Tampa's just really
good. And, you know, it's possible that they could be a really good team. And that the Giants or the Bengals
coming up or Arizona, they'll have much more success. Before I get to the play that I brought up
yesterday on the show, and I actually, when I was watching the All-22, I tweeted it out because it
made me kind of like, oh, my God, there was an opportunity, and that was the third and 18 McCaffrey
throwback, which I think would have been a touchdown. You know, I talked about this first-down
success, and the level of kind of, you know, that was the down that the defense actually looked like a
a real defense. It's just what happened afterwards was the problem. And yes, I'm a fan of this
player, but I mentioned yesterday. I thought Duran was a pretty disruptive player. I thought Duran
played pretty well. He was number two in the league after one week in run-stop-win rates per next-gen
behind DeForest Buckner in Indianapolis.
I did think that he actually looked pretty good.
I actually thought on first down in particular,
and even sometimes on third down,
they generated some pass rush.
They just, for whatever reason,
could not get Baker Mayfield to the ground.
And, you know, unfortunately, you end up with a defense getting torched,
but we talked about it on yesterday's show
that they were close.
They had them a couple of times.
Well, NextGen's pass rush win rate after one week, Washington was number two in the league in
win rate in pass rush win rate.
But they didn't get home on Mayfield.
They couldn't get him to the ground or they missed him.
You know, it's like that's, by the way, I feel like we've said that a lot the last couple
of years.
We said that about Montez Sweat all the time.
Oh, my God, he was there.
but he just didn't get him.
And then lastly, upon further review,
was this third and 18 play after the sack fumble,
which was to me the most concerning play for Jaden on Sunday.
And by the way, Quinn mentioned that there were some times he didn't have to scramble.
You know, he could have let it fly.
And that was one of those times.
And actually, I think he actually talked about that play specifically.
he's got to do that.
It's his first game.
So we're not, you know, no referendum on anybody after one game.
But the third and 18 trick play that they tried on that drive in the third quarter,
first drive of the third quarter, which when I saw it on the All-22,
and then I talked about it on the show yesterday, I'm like,
why didn't Luke McCaffrey throw it back to him?
I mean, it was so set up.
There was a wall.
It was a punt return wall set up for Jaden.
If he throws that back to him, you know, backwards past lateral after the bubble screen,
I think it's a touchdown.
And Dan Quinn, he wasn't even asked about this.
He was asked a question about the performance of the receivers,
including Luke McCaffrey.
And he said, quote,
Yeah, I thought it was a very competitive play from Luke down towards the goal line at the end of the game.
We almost scored before Jaden was scored on like the next player two plays later.
And then he says this.
He says, and what I also thought is that Luke doesn't want to play quarterback.
He certainly had a chance at the double pass down the field.
Now, the double pass wasn't a double pass down the field.
The double pass was bubble screen, then throw it backwards lateral style legally to Jaden,
and they've got a wall of blockers set up.
They got four blockers with one corner downfield, which Diami Brown's in front of.
And knowing what we know, and for those of you who didn't know that much until Sunday,
well, now you know that he is pretty lethal as a runner.
I think he scores, and it's 16-14.
I don't know why McCaffrey didn't throw it.
I mean, Quinn mentions it here.
And you know what, by the way, I don't think Dan Quinn should have mentioned it.
Now, not that other teams aren't going to see that play and say,
oh, my God, they had this thing set up perfectly.
You know, 3rd and 18 is a bubble screen or a draw or a traditional screen kind of play.
A lot of bubble screens, especially at that point, at that point,
part of the field because you have a chance to get in field goal range if you can get eight to
10 yards back, which by the way Luke McCaffrey did. He got eight yards back. They attempted the field
goal they missed. And so it's like the perfect time to call something like that because here comes
bubble. Everybody runs bubble screen or draw or regular screen on third and 18. And they fooled them.
They had the whole thing set up, but McCaffrey didn't lateral it back, didn't throw it back. Now,
if he had thrown some balloon pass back, it would have given time for Tampa's defense to react,
but they had them completely fooled.
And I think it gets the first down.
It probably scores.
And Quinn mentioning it just brings more attention to it.
You know, the giant, like, you know, you want to be able to break that kind of a play out again.
Oh, the one other thing, because somebody tweeted me and said,
did you see Kingsbury's reaction?
And so I went back because the All-22 picks up Kingsbury.
And then he goes out of screen when McCaffrey starts to run.
But he sees the whole thing set up.
And then he starts to like lift his arms up in the air.
And then he's like, what are you doing?
Throw it!
Too bad that they didn't do that.
But for those that said to me,
I think it was they didn't, he didn't throw it back because you can't throw two passes.
Well, it wasn't going to be a pass.
It was going to be a lateral.
And some of you thought it was a trick play, that they were faking that play.
No, I think what Quinn told you there was that was the play call.
But for whatever reason, McCaffrey, who was a quarterback in college at Nebraska and then Rice,
before becoming a wide receiver, decided not to throw it.
I got one other thing real quickly because I was curious as to what you thought.
And some of you gave me some feedback on this, either agreeing with it or vehemently disagreeing with it.
I'll read you, Vic.
Vic said, Jaden Daniels is in at the end of the game because he's a competitor, Sheehan,
and they're trying to get him the extra work and confidence.
So I did not like the decision that Dan Quinn, as the head coach made,
to have Jaden Daniels in the game at the end down 37 to 14 running read option plays and getting
banged around on a condensed field at the goal line. I said in the kindest way that I could have said it.
It was risky and unwise. I could have said it was high risk and stupid, but I'll be kind about that.
and say that. And Vic, I get it. I love the competitor. I don't mind a quarterback getting their
ass kicked being in the game, you know, handing the ball off, you know, throwing quick throws.
I mind that they had him, you know, on option runs where he could potentially keep the ball
in short-yardage situations and take a big hit, which he did. He lost his helmet on one of those hits.
I just
I thought it was
you know
I thought that
that was he
Quinn did not have a good day
one day
first day
you know
we'll move on
it was not a good day
for him
he botched the clock
at the end of the first half
and I just didn't
I didn't like that
he tried kicking
what a 56 yard field goal
yeah I didn't
I didn't mind that as much
he had a kicker with the leg
I mean and it was
That one was fourth and ten.
That's true.
You know, or fourth and eight or whatever it was.
Fourth and ten.
Or fourth and nine.
I didn't have as big a problem if you did with the kid in the game at the end.
It wasn't in the game.
I want to be clear.
It's not in the game that I had a problem with.
It was that they were running zone read with him at the end at the game,
where he's got the option to keep the ball,
and it's short-yardage, condensed field,
which means that line of scrimmage, he's going to get hit.
He's going to probably take a hit or he can take a hit.
Can you imagine if he had gotten hurt on one of those plays at the end, down 37 to 14?
You're right.
Good point.
Okay.
I wanted to quickly talk about Aaron Rogers last night and Monday night football.
And also on yesterday's show, we didn't talk because I kind of ran a little bit out of time.
I actually had to, I'm not going to get into the details.
I had to leave in the middle of recording the podcast yesterday and then I had to come back and finish it up.
That's why it was out late.
And I do apologize for getting the day after a game show out late.
That's not my plan at all this year.
It's to try to get it out early to mid-afternoon, very latest.
And on some, you know, games, I'll probably get it out the night or the early morning of.
but where was I going with this?
Oh, we didn't get a chance to talk about any of the other football
or even Maryland's loss to Michigan State,
which I want to do as well.
I'm sure Tommy's got some stuff left.
We'll get to that and more right after these words
from a few of our sponsors.

All right, Tommy, tell us about Shelley's.
Well, you mentioned early in the podcast the debate coming up tonight.
The presidential debate, just like sports, a great place to watch and talk politics,
is Shelley's back room.
It's right in the heart of D.C.'s political scene at 13.
31 F Street Northwest, just a few blocks from the White House, just right across the street from the National Press Club.
And it draws a lot of political types into Shelly's.
I've been in the middle of a lot of political discussions at Shelly's back room, and I'm sure that debate will be a big topic at Shelly's.
And they have the kind of place where you can be comfortable watching it.
They have eight high-definition TVs.
They've got cozy couches, over-suff chairs.

You can play drinking games, like some people do, when they're watching debates.

So, real quickly about the NFL weekend.
First of all, the numbers on the new kickoff rule are out from one week.
the percentage of touchbacks dropped just less than 10% from 73% to 63.5%.
So last year, the average percentage of kickoffs that were touchbacks, 73%.
Week 1, 63.5%.
By the way, that does not count last night's game.
That was through yesterday.
And that's not what they considered to be a significant.
drop. They were hoping for something more significant than that. It's just one weekend.
And it's very possible that teams are like, you know, let's just see how this plays out
around the league. And right now, the safe thing is to kick it through the end zone. If we've got
a kicker who can do that and let them start at the 30-yard line. But those were the numbers.
Sean McVeigh actually was one of those coaches that basically decided we're kicking it out of the
end zone. We'll give the team the other team the ball at the 30-yard.
guard line. And he just said, I just think the unforeseen right now, knowing that there aren't many
layers in coverage, there are possible vertical seams. I think we felt like the confidence that we did
have in our defense to put the ball in the 30, but it was more about just a lot of the unforeseen
consequences. And I think that's kind of the approach around the league. You know,
the reason that there wasn't a significant drop is that teams are just trying to figure out,
and maybe they're waiting to see what the results of other games will be.
We had one kickoff return for a touchdown.
That's not like unusual.
Sometimes early in the season, you get the most punt in kickoff returns because you got new players on special teams.
But I don't know.
I think that by the time we get to October, they do have the ability to tweak the rule in
season, I think if we continue to see, you know, this rate 63% touchbacks, you know, it's not
giving them what they wanted in the result. They want a lot of kickoff returns. They want that,
you know, that number to be like 30% of the time there are touchbacks and 70% of the time
there are returns. And so if you don't see that, they could potentially scratch it, although I
don't think they can scratch it in season, but if they tweak it, they would tweak it where they
would penalize the kick coverage team five more yards and have the ball start at the 35.
I have a problem with them tweaking rules in the middle of a season personally.
I think you just wait until the end of the season, but we'll see what happens.
Last night, we saw the conclusion of week one with, man, that was some hype leading up to
Jets 49ers last night.
And that crowd, which is not considered to be a super loud or raucous crowd, it was hyped
for that game.
And early in that game, and actually all night, Aaron Rogers looked like Aaron Rogers to me.
I mean, he was slinging it.
Now, the problem in the game was that the Jets didn't have the football because they couldn't
get the 49ers off the field.
This guy, Jordan Mason, replaced Christian McCaffrey last night.
28 carries 147 yards.
Isn't it amazing as NFL fans?
A Sattahan offense.
Exactly.
Downing hand offense.
It's just amazing over the years.
Mike in Denver, Kyle, wherever he goes.
It doesn't matter if your star running back is out.
They got an Alandis Gary or a Tatum Bell or a Jordan Mason to come in and get a buck 50.
It is really one of the true major contributions to the game over the last 30-some years
is the Shanahan Zone Run scheme.
And a big part of their success is every coach who's ever come on this show,
Jay Gruden recently has said,
is you have to get your wide receivers to block.
And Joanne Jennings and Debo Samuel and Brandon Ayuk are great blockers.
But the 49ers were dominant with their run game.
The Jets who have a belief that they're going to be very good defensively,
couldn't get them off the field.
But if I'm a jet fan after waiting over a year since that four-play Monday night
opener a year ago, this guy hadn't played for basically two years.
And I watched that.
And I watch Garrett Wilson, who is a superstar talent at,
wide receiver, I'd be very encouraged at what I saw. I thought that ball was humming off his arm.
Yeah, he wasn't the problem, that's for sure. You know, so we'll see.
Remember what I always think of with the Shattahan offense? Yeah. Going back to that 2010 season.
Yeah. Have you ever heard of Ryan Terrain since then? He had a lot of big games, didn't he?
he rushed for 742 yards on 164 attempts, 4.5 yards per carry.
And we thought, wow, they found themselves a running back.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, I mean, Alfred Morris.
I mean, Alfred had, you know, a couple of decent years in Dallas, but...
But not like Washington.
No.
Yeah, Ryan Terrain.
Who else was on that team that ran for...
Keeland Williams.
Yeah, Keelan Williams.
Keelan Williams.
I mean, unbelievable.
So the rest of the NFL opening weekend,
let me just go back because we never talked about Friday nights game
between the Eagles and the Packers, which the Eagles won in Brazil.
The first comment I have is just, I don't have a problem with them,
expanding the product internationally and trying to make this and turn the NFL into a global product,
especially in places that have interest in it. But if you're all about safety as a league,
you have to figure out the field situations. That field was a rink in the first half. The teams had to
change their cleats. We've seen that in Mexico City. We've seen it in London. We've seen it
in other places like, you know, apparently these soccer fields are just different than football fields.
I'm not the ex.
Let's not forget that the union is a partner with the NFL.
I mean, whatever money they got out of these games, the players get, what, 49%?
Yeah, 48.8 or whatever it is, yeah.
Something like that.
And the union has to agree to these games.
Okay, this isn't a bargaining thing.
I got it.
This is not something.
The owners can just say, we're going to do this, and you're going to have to like it.
So if there's real concern among players about their safety or about making these trips,
they need to make it a big issue with their union.
Okay, that's fine, but they're not agreeing to these games and having shitty fields.
Right.
Well, then they need to, that's what your union is there to do to protect you.
Yeah.
Well, I think a lot of NFL fans, well, we had that at the Super Bowl a couple of years ago,
the Philadelphia, Kansas City Super Bowl.
Yeah, oh my God, yeah.
You know, like an ice ring.
But it seems like it always happens in these international games.
And, I mean, that's not why Jordan Love got hurt and, you know, at the end of the game.
But a couple of things real quickly, though, because they're a team in the division.
So, Sequin Barclay had a rather, you know, productive debut.
You know, I think Seekwon Barclay is a special talent.
I've always felt that.
He hasn't been able to stay healthy.
As long as he's healthy, he is remarkable.
But he's been on a bad team with no other weapons offensively,
where a team can totally focus defensively on you.
I'm not saying that Saquan Barclay is going to.
going to be to Philadelphia, what Christian McCaffrey was for San Francisco, because I think
McCaffrey's, you know, better, but Barclay is a massive addition. He had over 100 yards.
Rushing, he had a touchdowns in his first game, and they've got A.J. Brown, they have Devante
Smith. They have John Dotson, who wasn't even targeted. He actually was targeted once. I love the people
that after one game, the guy's been there for two weeks.
weeks and they're like, ha ha ha, we got you. Don't do that after one game. I mean, who,
you have no idea what Dotson's going to end up being with Philadelphia. The fact that he was on
the field for the opener and was out there for as many snaps as he was is probably a good sign for
him since he just arrived two weeks earlier. The other comment I wanted to make is, you know,
Jalen Hertz had a bit of a step back year last year.
He was injured. There's no doubt he was not 100%.
He had this issue with Nick Siriani, which really didn't get reported in a big way and discussed until over the summer.
He is so bulked up and so strong.
I think he's lost a lot of his speed and playmaking ability.
Now, he had a couple of runs with the game on the line where he just was a fullback and he just ran over people.
But I think a lot of his escapeability and quickness and speed, I just don't think it's there anymore.
You know, he is apparently like Mr. Weight, you know, room guy and he's, you know, squatting, you know, 18,000 pounds.
And that's what makes the tush push work, et cetera.
You know, I think Philly, you know, if they don't have a lot of issues with that, you know,
the head coach, he drives me nuts, Siriani.
They got talent, and they got a guy that they added in the offseason.
Zach Bonn, who was in Philadelphia, was in New Orleans last year.
He was the best player on the field for the Eagles other than Barclay.
It was a sloppy game.
The field contributed to it.
Tough for the Packers, because to lose Jordan Love for a few weeks, you know,
in a race that people thought they'd be in,
you know, Malik Willis was terrible in his opportunities,
you know, in Tennessee.
So that game was, you know, an interesting game on Friday night.
And then all of the games Sunday, you know,
obviously, you know, the team that everybody talks about the most,
the Cowboys, they were very impressive.
Deshawn Watson, who there was news yesterday of a night,
lawsuit from back in 2020 when he was in Houston. I think his life and his game is just,
it fell apart with all that happened to him. He's, he left it on a massage table. He did.
Yeah. He did. He left his game somewhere on a massage table. Not to be gross, but he left some
other things on the massage table as well. Because he's just not the same player he was.
in Houston. And Dallas in that opener, and it's just an opener, but I have been a Mike Zimmer
defensive coordinator fan forever. I don't think they lost much with Zimmer replacing Quinn.
And they had six sacks in that game, and they pressured Deshawn Watson over and over again.
The other thing real quickly is, Zeke Elliott looked much lighter to me. I wasn't watching this game,
but I had it on another screen because Washington was going on at the same time.
I had a couple of cowboy fans, including Clay, say that Zeke lost 15 pounds in the offseason.
He looks totally different physically.
And then, you know, them signing Dak Prescott to the contract.
So they get lamb in, they get Prescott.
Michael Parsons will be next.
And the Cowboys, you know, roll in the opener.
I am trying to think of some of the other games.
I thought that the Houston, the one o'clock window,
so the one o'clock window featured, by the way,
you know who in his first game with Atlanta.
Oh, yeah.
And it was not a good game for Kirk Cousins.
But let me just, you know, mention that I watched a lot of this game.
You know, we had the quad box going.
I got the Sunday ticket for the first time ever and YouTube TV.
I don't know what they were doing with him.
This is the guy that has been under center more than any other quarterback over the last eight years.
He's run more play-action plays than any quarterback over the last eight years.
And they had him in the pistol formation and didn't run any play-action plays.
I mean, it's Zach Robinson.
He came from the Shanahan and the Sean McVey tree.
And, you know, I was thinking about this.
Matt Stafford's in the pistol a lot.
So Zach Robinson clearly brought that here, but Kirk is best when he is in play action,
under center, bootleg under center.
I think they've got a really good running game potentially with Robinson and Algiers.
That was weird.
I would guess, and a lot of people have surmised here over the last day and a half,
that he's just not 100% healthy and they don't want.
want him, you know, having to play action hard and drop back five, seven steps with a lot of
movement. They'd rather him be already back in the pocket. Okay. T.J. Watt was dominant in that
game. Sometimes you see defensive players wreck games. T.J. Watt did that. Caleb Williams won
his first game and became the first rookie quarterback to start an opener and win since Sam Darnel.
did back in 2018, but he threw for 93 yards. They scored on a block punt, and one of the
worst pick sixes by a quarterback you'll ever see Will Levis just push the ball and chucked it,
you know, in the general direction. Chicago was one of three teams to erase a 14-point deficit
and rally for the victory. It's, I think, only the second time it's happened since the merger in
1970 to have three teams down two touchdowns and rally.
The other two teams were the Bills who rallied against the Cardinals.
Josh Allen looked spectacular.
And the dolphins who rallied from 14 down to beat the Jags.
And then there was, of course, Jacoby Brissette and the New England Patriots with the upset
of the day, the biggest underdog on the board on the road.
They went out right in Cincinnati, which is kind of wild.
The Sunday night game was a great game, great game between the Lions and the Rams.
I know it's just one game, but these two teams are good last year.
They look like two teams that are going to be around for the long haul.
And then one other thing, the rookie quarterback, the other rookie quarterback to start Bo Nix,
he averaged 3.3 yards per completion.
He did what he did at Oregon.
Every throw was at the line of scrimmage.
He completed 26 passes.
for 138 yards.
That's really hard to do.
And they lost to Seattle.
Yeah, I didn't have anything else on the NFL Sunday.
Did anything, were you watching football on Sunday?
I watched the Patriots and Jacoby for set,
and he was, he was very efficient.
and the Patriots look very clean.
They look like a well-coached team is what they look like.
Yeah, I don't think they're going to suck.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Lastly, let me just mention, because I didn't talk about it yesterday,
and Meryl fans that listen to the podcast are with me on these games.
That was just a bad loss Saturday.
I know Michigan State is a program that has a big representation.
reputation. They're not supposed to be very good this year. I thought they actually played well. One of the
keys to the game that I mentioned on Friday was Maryland had to run the football. Michigan State was good
against the run and they couldn't run the football. Still, though, they were a better team, I think,
talent-wise, and they lost a game at home where they jumped, you know, off sides on a 55-yard field goal
miss at the end of the first half, giving Michigan State another chance. And that field goal ended up
being huge. Hell on the game-winning field goal, they leaped up into the air and got penalized.
Michigan State, had they missed that kick, they would have had another chance. That's a tough
one to drop. You know, there was some excitement over the possibility of a big run. My excitement,
probably more than some of yours. Ty Felton, by the way, is a star receiver in the NFL at the
next level if you're interested in that. I'll give you that. But yeah, that's not a good loss.
You can talk about Michigan State and the pedigree they have all you want.
New coach, new program.
They barely beat Florida Atlantic last week, 16 to 10, a team that lost Army 24 to 7 this week.
You got to win those games at home if you're going to be what a lot of us want you to be,
which is a real factor in the Big 10 race.
and a team that gets ranked, a team that is playing for, you know, more than it's been respectable.
It's been impressive what Mike has done.
He's recruited the shit out of this area and other areas.
And they're a much better program than they were before he got here.
But those are the kind of games that just hurt in the long run.
Yeah.
Anything else?
I got nothing else for you today, boss.
Enjoy the debate tonight.
I'll talk to you later.
Okay, I'll see you.
Bye.
