You don't want it.
You don't need it, but you're going to get it anyway.
The Kevin Cheon Show.
Here's Kevin.
The face of the third and seven here.
Right now it just comes down to ball security.
Don't be afraid to punt and pin this thing deep and make Sam Darnel
to go to the length of the field for a field goal with no timeouts.
Mario don't pulls it.
Oh, Marcus Mariona, Oregon-style, dives ahead first down.
Wow.
Vintage Marioada.
11 yards to perhaps seal the deal with a win over the champs.
What a call.
Marcus Marioada pulling it on the zone read on third and long,
running nine yards for a first down to seal an upset win over Seattle,
the final 33 to 31.
They ran it twice on that final drive on third and longs.
The first one, Rashad White's 19-yard run on a third and nine.
Wow, what a win.
I mean, this league, people, when you least expect it,
it is crazy, crazy, and very much week to week.
This show's presenting sponsor is Window Nation every week.
If you need new Windows 86690 Nation, you can also go to Wind
Donation.com. What a difference a week makes. I'm in for a postgame show following a very thrilling
and very memorable Washington win over the Seahawks. A week after it seemed like we needed to hold
a funeral for the 2026 season. This was a game that had so much to it. So I'm going to try to
cover as much as I can here. And what I miss, I'll be back late tomorrow.
tomorrow to follow up on it. But plenty of big plays, plenty of big mistakes, lots of scoring,
some incredible individual performances, some performances that weren't so great.
NFL games are rarely perfect. And this one was far from it. But wow, was it exciting.
And man, our team, you know, the home team, the big underdog, already feeling the sting of
losing the starting quarterback last week, two weeks into the season, and several other players
as well. And yet they showed up to brawl the defending champs. If they were going to fall to
0 and 3, they were going down swinging and you could feel it from the jump. The defense, it gave up a lot,
no doubt, a ton of big plays. But they were high energy and they were, as my good friend Doc Walker
might say they were in predatory mode.
They got three takeaways, the first three takeaways of the season, and the three takeaways
led to three touchdowns, 21 points.
Listen to this, if you haven't heard this already.
This game with three turnovers producing 21 plus points is the first time our team has
done that. Three or more
turnovers producing 21 or more points
in a game. First time it's happened
since week 17 of the
2005 season. 2005.
That team, remember in week 17, went to
Philadelphia to clinch a playoff spot, won the game.
Sean Taylor clinched it with a fumble return
for a touchdown, but it's been 21 years.
since this team has generated 21 or more points off of turnovers in a game.
And let's be clear, this was the number one reason they pulled off the shocker today over Seattle.
That plus three in the turnover margin, not turning it over at all themselves,
the plus three led to 21 of their 33 points.
There is no way they win that game without all three of them.
On Friday, I said it's got to be plus two minimum for it to be a game in the turnover margin.
And they got plus three and they were barely able to hang on to a two-point win.
It's also important to note that all three of those takeaways were forced.
They weren't offensive blunders by Seattle.
Sunny Stiles forced out that first fumble on Seattle's second drive of the game.
Tim Settle got some interior pressure, got his helmet up in the path of the Sam Darnold Pass,
which was deflected up into the air, and Sunny Stiles picked it off.
And then Cain Madrano made the play of the game.
Just over four minutes to go, Washington clinging to a three-point lead.
Adafi O'A got some pressure on Darnold, and Madrano read it, jumped to.
it, picked it, and returned it for a touchdown.
It's what he did in college.
I mean, this is why people were interested in Kane Madrano.
He was really good at UCLA at anticipating those kinds of throws and making plays like the
one he did today and really what was his first chance to play some meaningful football
in his second season.
The three takeaways, though, defensive four.
the number one reason for the win.
This team had some serious grit today.
Serious grit.
O and two off the loss in Dallas that really did seem like, you know, a result that
buried the season.
Certainly a lot of people felt that way.
Another injury to Jaden Daniels, of course, was the real soul-crushing part of the
result last week.
And yes, the news on Jaden.
Late in the week, late last week was a positive jolt,
but the team was still staring,
O and three, square in the face,
with Seattle coming to town.
With not only Jaden Daniels,
their starting quarterback out,
but three other key starters as well.
Cosmi, Nick Cross, Chigacanquo, all out,
and then they lost more during the game.
Louvoo's replacement, Leo Chanel, got knocked out,
head slash neck injury.
Apparently, things are looking decent for him,
even though he was taken to the hospital.
The offensive line was shuffled around before the game started.
Lucas Patrick, I bet many of you hadn't heard of him.
They signed him about a week and a half ago.
He moved to center, Nick Allegretti to guard to account for the Sam Cosmy loss.
And then Patrick got hurt, so the line had to shuffle in-game with Aligretti going back to center.
And Matt Gulbin, the rookie sixth rounder from the first rounder from.
Michigan State coming in to play guard.
Marcus Marietta played so well in this game.
He didn't miss a play, but he had to go to the locker room in the middle of the game to get fluids.
He said shortly after the game, he hadn't played that much football in a while.
All of that, all of the injuries, the loss of Jaden Daniels, staring O'N3 because of the opponent
it in the face with everybody burying them or a lot of people burying them.
All of that created a pretty steep mountain to climb coming in.
And they climbed it.
They did it.
I mean, the energy level, the hitting, the line of scrimmage defensively against the run,
and then offensively taking advantage of the good field position provided by two of the three
turnovers because one of them scored.
and they took advantage of it with big productive plays in the passing game primarily
because they really couldn't run the football until the end of the game.
And they did it against that defensive front with a makeshift offensive line.
I know some of you aren't going to love what I'm going to say now,
but Dan Quinn gets a lot of credit for today.
You know, this is a no-excus next man-up culture.
He's built this culture.
He never lost the locker room last year in the midst of a disaster of a season.
And at 0-2 last Sunday staring right in the face of O'N3, a group of players, several of them not expected to be on the field a whole lot this year.
They all played as if their season was on the line.
What a win.
I mean, the best win, obviously, since, you know, 2024 and some of the playoff wins.
Nothing like this happened last year.
And now I'm going to, you know, give you that typical, you know, hey, it's the NFL.
Beware, because as pumped as we all are in this moment, which is the opposite feeling from what we felt a week ago.
but again, you've got to understand especially, especially early in the season.
Sometimes until the middle of the season, this league is a roller coaster up, down, all over the place.
Each week seems to basically forget anything that happened the week before, especially again, early in seasons.
I mean, our fan base was as low as it gets seven days ago.
now the glass is half full, maybe more than half full. But be aware, you know, that emotional
swing from last week to this week can swing right back. You know, right now I'm going to talk
about today, this game, and only this game, because it is a standalone. It really is. It doesn't
mean much of anything to what will happen next week in London against the Colts, who also won today
to avoid an 0-3 start, beating Houston, who is O'N-3.
And by the way, just looked at this, Indie's a three-point favorite over the team that just beat the defending champion Seattle Seahawks,
stopping their 12-game winning streak.
They had not lost since November 16th of last year to the Rams.
Yeah, I'm still thrilled, though.
I'm still thrilled.
I just know that next Sunday morning at 9.30 a.m.
when we all sit down to watch, we have no idea what's going to happen heading into that game.
And as far as Jaden Daniels return, certainly the performance by Marcus Mariotta,
if they were leaning in one direction or another with a slight lean,
they could probably go one more week and bring them back for the giant game.
The Giant Game was my guess on Thursday show, but as I said on Friday show, I wouldn't be shocked if he were on that plane and he was a possible starter Sunday in London.
But after the way Marioita played today and getting this first win, if there was any hesitation to bringing him back, they can probably wait at least another week.
All right, let's get to my game take.
What I liked, didn't like, and a lot more.
I got a lot on the game take.
We'll do it right after these words from a few of our sponsors.
Isn't it nice that football's finally back and prize picks knows it?
They've brought out their best offer yet.
New users who sign up will get $150 in lineups if you win your first $5 lineup.
That's right.
If you win your first $5 lineup, you'll get $150 in lineups.
Prize picks has been and is my go-to daily fantasy sports app,
and it's the most entertaining way to watch a game,
especially those games in standalone prime time
when you may not have an interest one way or the other.
Well, prize picks gives you an opportunity to have some interest.
It's very easy to use.
You simply pick between two and six players
and their projected stats, either going more,
or less than that projected number.
Like tonight in the Monday night game between the Rams and Giants,
I've gone less than 52 and a half rushing yards for Cam Scataboo.
Against that ram defense and after the big game he had last week,
you know me, Contrarian, I'm going less than 52.5 with the expectation I think most people have
that he will rush for more than 52 and a half yards.
You can follow the result of this watching the game tonight,
or if you're hearing this later in the week,
you can go back and see if I was right or wrong.
Prize Picks is now available nationwide.
So what are you waiting for?

Here's a third and long.
Seattle has not been forced to use a timeout left,
and they can get one of the best pass rushes in football going after Marioota.
It's a handoff to Rashad White.
Rashad White has a first down, stays in bounds.
My goodness, everybody at the line, and White goes around them.
That was the first of the two third and long runs on that final drive.
Rashad White going 19 yards on a third and nine.
Marcus Mario dapp actually checked to that play.
He did a lot of that during the game, and I think almost always it worked out.
But imagine if they had gotten stopped there or on the Mario to read option pull, which really iced the game.
Anybody confident that they would have gotten a stop on Seattle, had Seattle gotten the ball back down 33, 31?
The touchdown drive that made it 33 to 31 was a five-play 68-yard drive in a minute six.
that was a bit embarrassing
defensively on a day
that produced a lot of good
defensively but two
gutsy, ballsy
runs on third and longs
on that final drive
and Marioato was taking knees
at the end of the game.

Pay attention. He's Kevin's Game Take.
My game take is pretty much the same every week after a Washington game. It's three lists. It's a list of
things that I like from a Washington perspective. It's a list of the things that I did not like
from a Washington perspective. And then the third and final list are just other observations from
the game that don't necessarily fit into either one of those two categories. I'm looking at my
notes for this particular game. Typically, I take, I don't know, four to five pages of notes
for an average Washington game. So I'm prepared for this show and the shows that I'll do tomorrow
and Tuesday as we continue to talk about the previous game.
This is about nine to ten pages of notes.
No exaggeration.
Each team had 13 possessions in the game.
You know, some of these games are fast moving.
You know, each team has, you know, eight, nine, ten possessions in the game.
13 possessions each in this football game.
Long game, for sure.
All right, let's get to it.
The list of things that I liked.
Number one is easy.
It's the three takeaways, the plus three in the turnover margin.
The single biggest reason they won this game, and number two, isn't close.
This was a game going in that Washington was going to have to win the turnover battle.
They were going to have to finally get some takeaways that shortened up the field, took Seattle's
offense off of it and then produced points with those takeaways. And they produced three
touchdowns with three takeaways. They didn't turn the ball over themselves. They were plus three.
And all three of the takeaways were forced. Sunny Stiles forced the fumble on the second drive
of the game setting up Washington at Seattle's 21-yard line. Then we had the Settles helmet with some
penetration, deflecting the darn old pass into the air, and Stiles picking that one up, starting
that drive in Seattle territory at their 43.
That ultimately ended up being a touchdown as a follow-up to that turnover.
And then the Kane-Madrano picks six with Adafé always pressure.
Madrano reading it.
This guy can play like that.
We're going to see more of him, I would guess, but they love Louvo and they love Chanel.
I mean, Madrano is, you know, third string, essentially, on this football team.
And he came up with an absolute massive play.
The pick six giving Washington the lead.
And really, a lead that should have been 10, not 9 at 33 to 24.
But the post-score celebration got flagged.
and Drew Stevens was backed up to a 48-yard P-A-T on a very windy day, and he missed it,
and it could have cost Washington the game.
I'll get to that when I get to the list of things that I did not like.
But three takeaways.
By the way, Stiles also had the forced fumble on Saubbert on his TD,
but the fumble ended up in Saubert's hands in the end zone.
Sonny Stiles, I think, is going to be on the list of players that I liked from the game.
Takeaways plus three in the turnover margin.
Number one on the good list.
Number two, Marcus Mariotta.
Man, that was a game for Marioota.
First of all, just the veteran poise, the control he had at the line of scrimmage.
So many apparent checks out of perhaps bad plays into better plays.
They all seem to work.
The Bill Kroski-merit 48-yard touchdown run that got called back because of Antonio Williams not getting up to the line of scrimmage and covering up Connerly Jr.
That looked like a check at the line of scrimmage because he was moving everybody around.
The fifth drive of the first half, he checked to a throw to Antonio Williams some of the quick game that they had for about eight yards.
That looked like a check.
Let me just go through my notes.
Third quarter, the touchdown pass to Terry looked like a check, the 30-yard touchdown pass.
He saw that they were moving out of sort of that cover two, and Terry was going to get some man coverage.
And he put it up for Terry in the end zone.
Terry made a really good play on the ball.
It was just perfect all the way around, but I think that was a check.
And then the Rashad White, third nine, 19-yard run was a check.
as well. That was a big part of this game. Forget Mario's numbers, 19 to 31, 1883 yards,
three touchdowns, no picks, two sacks in the game, and had the big pull on the zone read.
The numbers were solid, really solid considering the defense, but it was the whole game. It was
his control at the line of scrimmage. We saw a lot of that with Jaden against Philadelphia and
against Dallas. There's no doubt that there's more ability in the David Blow offense, I think,
than in Kingsbury's offense to, you know, can the first play and get to the second.
Mario to just look, looked in complete control in this game. It's so many big throws.
All right, let me just go through this list. The first touchdown pass to Rashad White did
great job stepping up into what I thought was a solid pocket. I thought the old line,
I mean, makeshift, I mean, for three straight games, I mean, the doomsday on the offensive
line, we can, even with all the injuries and the new players, clearly they're scheming up
some solid pass pro, you know, at this point. Washington was number eight in pass block win rate
per the ESPN number after two weeks.
I thought for the most part they did a decent job today.
Look, that defensive front is nasty.
And they had new players and shuffling and the whole thing.
But that was a big time throw to White.
He was good in the quick game, Mariota was.
They had a bunch of quick game in the game plan.
The touchdown passed to Berks.
I mean, that is just a really, really good throw
because he is pressured up the middle.
by Leonard Williams, and he got hit on that throw.
The throw to Terry for 18 at the end of the half when he got smacked in the head,
and there should have been a penalty on that play.
He had two quick, well, he had two throws that were caught, but were not caught in bounds.
Diami, I think,'s got to do a better job of getting both feet in.
Terry made a great catch on a great throw and just couldn't get, really, I don't think,
either one of those two feet in.
It looked like you catch it first.
But those throws were really good throws.
He did a really good job.
Remember when they had that one terrible field position drive
from their own two-yard line, you know,
and did a really good job scrambling out of the end zone
at the end of the first half to the one-yard line
so that they avoided a potential, you know, hurtful play.
It could have been a safety.
The deep shot to Antonio Williams that he dropped
I mean, the rookie, the ball was tipped.
It was, there was a finger on it, but it still landed in his hands.
The TD passed to Terry, you know, off of a check.
Perfect spot on that throw.
Moved a little bit left to get it out there.
He had the two slants, the one that made it fourth in one.
I thought they should have challenged it.
I thought Terry got the first down.
and then on the fourth and one right back to Terry on the slant.
Those are two excellent throws.
The third and seven zone read pull.
I mean, I thought we might see more zone read in the game.
I don't think we saw a lot of it, to be honest with you.
Not that I remember that it looked like he didn't pull it on any others if there were others,
but he pulled it on what turned out to be the play that iced the game.
and he is an excellent and always has been during his career.
He is an excellent read-option quarterback.
He just has really good feel, really good ball handling ability,
and then he's an excellent, excellent runner.
He wasn't perfect in the game.
Nobody's going to be perfect against that defense because he missed some throws.
He missed an early throw to digs, I think, on their first possession.
There was a third and 13 checkdown to Yankoff, which was a terrible throw because Yankoff had it looked like some running room if he threw it well.
He missed Diggs on a third and 11 in the first half.
And then he got fooled, man, by Nguzzo moving back into coverage number seven.
And that thing almost got picked.
Mariotta, we know typically can play at a really solid level, sometimes at a high level.
level, but what's really hurt him over the years is he's put the ball on the ground too much
and he's made some throws that are head scratchers. That one, I think he just got fooled,
but really lucky because the ball was right in Nuoso's hands. I don't really have any other
bad plays. I'll leave that up to Souter on Wednesday, but I give Marcus Mariotta an A for the
football game because he really was in total control against an outstanding defense. And let's face it,
without a running game, you know, no running game. Bill averaged 1.9 yards per carry. Yeah,
that 48-yarder would have been nice. You know, it would have been kind of like the Philly game from
the opener where Seque Juan had a 42-yarder, but not much else. But Kroski-Mirut ultimately
averaged 1.9 yards per carry, 19 for 36.
White was eight for 35 for 4.4 yards per carry.
But Washington rushed it 32 times, if you count Marioota, some of the scrambles.
32 for 82, 2.6 yards.
So Marioita had to do this.
You know, it's not like they produced a lot of yards.
You know, it was 258 yards.
They were not good on third down.
That'll be on my bad list.
But no running game to speak of against a great defense.
Marriota was just an A.
I thought David Blow had a really, really good game.
First of all, that 21-yard completion to Jalen Lane on that middle tunnel screen after they fake that wide screen,
real good creativity in that play.
I thought that he had a really good mix of some quick game along with looking for some shots.
He never got away from the run.
You got to keep a defense.
like Seattle, at least thinking a little bit about the run so that they're not teeing off.
I thought he was patient similar to the Philadelphia game where, you know, it's not like they were
producing big, big yardage in the game, but, you know, this was a game that was right there
because the defense was creating big plays in short fields.
And Tressway was having a really good game again.
I mean, Tressway is off to one hell of.
a start in this season.
But I thought David Blow did an outstanding job.
And look, they schemed some people open against that Seattle defense.
Terry, Stefan Diggs, Rashad White, the three offensive skill position players that are on this list.
Terry had maybe a drop, you know, maybe a drop or two, but six big catches.
and so many of them were contested.
You know, again, Terry doesn't create a ton of separation,
but he is a great contested catch guy, six for 77.
He really in many ways has great chemistry with Marioada.
And don't start saying that he doesn't have great chemistry with Jaden.
Let's not forget Terry's best season as a pro was 2024,
and Jaden Daniels was the quarterback.
Last year, though, they just didn't have a lot of time together.
They were barely on the field together.
Marcus Mariotas started more games and was on the field with Terry a lot more.
Diggs, outstanding, especially, you know, in catches against zone
where you got to move the sticks and you catch him short of the sticks.
He's so good at making people miss.
And then I think Rashad White just had his second really solid game in a row.
Obviously, that 19-yard run was.
massive, but there is some trust you can tell in Rashad White. And yet, they want the home run
ability of Kroski Merritt. Look, Kroski Merritt, you know, there wasn't much for him. And he
didn't put the ball on the ground. He protected the football. Washington protected the football.
Mario had the one near turnover. And I think that was it. I just put this down on the good list
because I think when you're facing Phillies defense in the opener,
Seattle's defense here in week three,
and your quarterback gets sacked twice,
and really one of them was on a scramble
where Ernest Jones made a phenomenal play,
if not Mario da probably scores.
That wasn't necessarily a legit sack,
even though it was a lost yardage play,
but Washington's got to be among the league leaders
in few as sacks allowed.
in this early portion of the season.
Defensively, man, they stopped the run.
They've stopped the run really in all three games,
with the exception of Barclays' 42-yard run.
Now, to be fair, Dallas and even Seattle,
they didn't really have to run it, right?
Because they could move it so easily through the air.
But it doesn't change the fact that Washington's setting edges
and their big guys up front are getting the job.
And of course, Stiles is outstanding right now.
I think they are doing an excellent job against the run.
It's the rest of the defense that has to, you know, get fixed because I don't know if you can count on three takeaways each week.
I know it'd be nice to be, Ben don't break, be good in the red zone and get two to three takeaways a week.
That's a formula for a defense that isn't great, right?
It's a formula for a defense that isn't great.
But they have been really solid against the run.
I have to say that Adafayoui was signed to that big deal because of his pass rushing prowess.
And by the way, his pass rushing sort of predictive moving forward after the way it looked in Baltimore for a while and then didn't.
and then it really showed up with the Chargers late.
I think he's been really good against the run as an edge setter.
I think Chasons been pretty good against the run as an edge setter.
I think Armstrong is pretty good as an edge setter.
I'm not sure Joseph's is as good yet.
I'm not saying he isn't,
but Washington's doing a really good job stopping the run.
Seattle in this game rushing 18 for 40.
for 2.4 yards per carry.
Again, they really didn't try to run it much.
When they did, Washington was aggressive,
and I thought flying around.
When they had a chance to make tackles,
they made them except for on a screen to Barner
early in the game.
Yeah, I mean, Dallas didn't really try,
Seattle didn't really try because they didn't necessarily need to, but still, I'm not going to take that away from them.
They've been a pretty good run-stopping team through three weeks of this season.
More TFLs for this team.
I think they had three or four, not 10, like they did against Philly.
But Chasin on that opening drive, you know, had that minus four TFL.
You had, Chanel had one before his injury.
Joseph's had one.
And I think Cahoe, was it Cahoe who had one or Tuttle had one?
It was three or four in the game.
I'd have to look up the stats.
Let me just check real quickly.
It says three TFLs in the game, three TFLs and no sacks.
I'll get to that in a bit.
But those TFLs, when they got them, were key to kind of derailing or helped to slow down some drives.
Like the first drive of the game, that TFCLs.
NFL led ultimately to a punt.
A meek Robertson in this game was outstanding.
Through three games, it's not even close who our best corner is, our best DB.
It's number two.
He plays with an edge, and even when he gets beat, like that touchdown out to JSN,
that's a hard cover.
That's a great throw.
Was that Robertson?
He got beat on a JSN pass, but hard throws.
good coverage, and man does he hit.
He got credit in this game for four defended passes.
Amique Robertson right now is their best defensive player overall.
Can we say that through three games?
I think we can.
Sunny Stiles is close.
Reeves has been outstanding.
Always been solid.
Kinlaw.
Kinlaw is in the conversation, too.
Amique Robertson's on the good list.
Sunny Stiles, of course.
I mean, he had not only the two forced fumbles,
one of which Washington recovered,
the other one ended up being a touchdown,
had the interception off the deflection.
How about the coverage on the deep ball that he broke up?
Sunny Stiles looking really, really solid
as a rookie through three games.
Loved him as we've now seen him in how many roles.
We've seen him as an early down blitzer, as a past situation blitzer.
We've seen him in coverage.
We've seen him force fumbles.
We've seen them get an interception off a deflection.
Did a good job, by the way, protecting the football as he went to the ground.
I liked Ken Law's performance.
I think Ken Law is solid, man.
Really, really solid.
Who else is on this list?
The goal line stand was so, so huge.
That stretch of the game with up 14 to 7, that's when Washington took over from their own two.
But that had a chance to go poorly.
And the whole final three or four drives of that first half, you get the goal line stand.
And by the way, the pressure was not there all day, but it was on the fourth and goal at the two.
and then Washington nearly, I mean, it was close.
He got out of there, Marioita did, and avoided the safety to get back to the two-yard line before the punt.
But by the way, I did not have a problem at all with the way they managed that final sequence.
They needed to try to move the football.
You didn't want to punt there.
I didn't have any problem with play action on the first play trying to throw to Senate,
who got popped and he probably should have caught it as well.
And he got, he got banged up during that play.
But you needed, you were going to punt it right back and they were going to have great field position in a 14 to 7 game.
I absolutely wanted them to be somewhat aggressive, not careless, not overly aggressive to the point of blowing the game right there.
But you didn't want to go three plays, three yards, and punt it.
They ended up punting it anyway, and then they did a phenomenal job defensively.
And you got the false start penalty, which both teams got hurt by penalties, drives got hurt by penalties.
Washington obviously had a major touchdown called back because of penalties.
But forcing the field goal, Myers hit the 57-yarder, but they didn't get a first down after taking over at Washington's 41-yard line with a minute 13 left.
And then Washington did a great job.
So that end of half sequence is on my good list.
They did a phenomenal job of calling a timeout, by the way, after Darnold's pass to Cup with 57 seconds to go,
immediately calling a timeout knowing that they were going to have a chance to get the ball back,
didn't have a problem with them throwing play action on first down,
and then did a good job with the clock and then a really good job when they got the ball at the 35 after the touchback, you know, into the end zone.
And they got it at 35. And the first play is Marioita to Terry for 18 yards. And they end up with, you know, basically an answer to Jason Myers is 57-yarder.
Drew Stevens answers with a 57-yarder of his own. By the way, the third and four in which they,
Mario da checked, I think, to a Rashad White run that only got two yards.
I think the key there was, you're in field goal range.
We can go up 1710 at the break.
Yeah.
And we got one time out left.
This run, if it breaks for big yardage, we'll get up and clock it.
Keep that time out.
But when they got stopped and it was fourth and two, they let that clock run down, did a nice job.
And Stevens, you know, isn't.
on the good list because of the miss PAT,
not his fault that he was kicking a 48-yard
P-A-T, but he still missed it.
You got to make those P-A-Ts,
even if they're 48 yards.
And I know the wind was probably
a factor.
But yeah, the whole
thing that started with that goal line
stand and
the punt back
and then the defense
coming up with another stop,
that penalty helped, even though the
field goal was made, the clock getting
managed well, saving all of that time and getting a field goal themselves to answer to take a 17 to 10
half-time lead. What else is on the list? I mean, I just wrote down, you know, playing through all
these injuries during the game, going into the game, the offensive line shuffling around,
and just Quinn having this group really, really ready. And Blow and Durante Jones and their staff,
Same thing.
This was not a perfect day.
There were mistakes.
There were sloppy times.
But overall against that opponent on a day like today when your back up is your backs up against the wall.
And by the way, the weather's not great.
The wind from this nor'easter is a bit of a factor.
Really, really good day.
I'm sure I'm forgetting somebody, but I will get that person added when I tweak this game.
for tomorrow's show.
All right, I'll get to the list of things that I did not like
and several other observations from the game after these words

Under center here, fake it to Wilson, pressure, throws, oh my goodness, right into the hands of Cain Madrano,
his first chance in the NFL today, and he's going to pick six from 50 yards.
Kane Madrano reading it so well, he's got very good anticipation talent, excellent hands.
This is what he did at UCLA.
This is why Washington drafted him and other teams were interested in drafting him towards the end of the 2025.
Draft Kane Madrano with the play of the game, really when all is said and done,
because it gave Washington a two-score lead with just under four minutes to go.
Of course, that two-score lead wasn't a 10-point lead.
It was a 9-point lead because the PAT was not.
no good, the PAT attempt was from 48 yards out after a 15-yard unsportsman-like
conduct penalty following Madrano's pick six.

The promo code for this offer is DC VIP. DC VIP. All right, let's get to the list of things that I did not like.
And I'll start with penalties. Nine for 57. I think there were one or two declined and there were two on one play in the end zone when both Kwan Martin and Amiq
Robertson got flagged trying to slow down JSN.
But the killer penalty was the illegal formation penalty on Antonio Williams on the 48-yard
touchdown run by Bill, a play that Mariotta checks to, got a chance to take a 14-0
lead, and Antonio Williams didn't step up to the line of scrimmage to cover up
Josh Connerly, Jr. Now, I was wondering, and I don't know the answer to this,
and I'd have to go back and look at the play clock.
But sometimes the veteran quarterback can say to the rookie wide receiver,
all right, now you're the last guy.
You've got to step up.
We can't have Connerley Jr. uncovered.
But the players got to know it too.
That was a devastating penalty.
Just a lot of illegal shifts.
We had back-to-back illegal shifts.
There was that terrible drive where Washington had some really good field position in the second half.
In fact, it was a sequence in.
which things just went wrong across the board. There was an illegal shift on a second and eight.
There was an illegal shift on the next play on a check down to white. And then they had to punt with
really good field position. And then Tyler Owens goes down to down the ball at the one and carries
it into the end zone. That was a big mistake and a sequence that really hurt because you had a
chance, you know, in that moment, up 24 to 17 to extend the lead with really good field position,
and instead Seattle gets it back, and they end up having a drive that ends up tying the game.
On that drive, by the way, that darnled sack by, near sack by Madrano, he gets away and he finds Shaheed.
Chason's 15-yard penalty was a textbook hit on the sideline.
I'm sorry, that's bullshit.
He did not lead with the helmet.
He did not catch him in the head or the neck area.
That's a great play.
And that's an incomplete pass.
And yet it turns out to be a big play on the way to a game-tying touchdown,
which included, by the way, a double pass.
on that drive.
But man,
that chase on hit on Shaheed was textbook the way they teach it so you don't get flagged.
But that stretch of having the ball with a chance to go up two scores with good field position
and having back-to-back illegal shift penalties followed by the Tyler Owens' you know,
debacle at the one-yard line.
I mean, the ball probably would have just sat there.
but I hope he knew the rule.
If he didn't know the rule, shame on the team for not letting you know.
You cannot carry your momentum after you've touched the ball down into the end zone with the ball.
The ball's got to be left and it can't be touching you while you're in the end zone or it's a touchback.
And then the next drive, they go down and score.
Yeah, penalties hurt and that stretch was a hurtful spot.
But look, anytime you give up 3179 passing yards and none of them are garbage time yards,
four touchdown passes, 31 of 45, it's not a great day for your pass defense.
So that is on the list of things that I didn't like.
And I'll tell you, I think I'm going to find some spots where the pass rush was impactful,
like on the Madrano pick six, Addafei always pressure.
like on the fourth and goal that they got the stop on.
There was pressure there.
But I didn't think there was consistent pass rush pressure.
I thought there were a couple of moments, but nothing consistent.
I actually thought the coverage, even though they gave up big chunk plays and big explosive plays,
and that kind of all goes hand in hand with this part of the list,
just the past defense overall and the explosives that they gave up.
That's a good football team.
Don't get me wrong.
thought Sam Darnold was really
sharp for a guy that hadn't
played, except for
what, a series or two since
the Super Bowl in the opener against New England.
So I thought he
was great, and obviously Jackson
Smith and Jigba's an impossible
cover. But the
past defense overall wasn't
great. There were a couple of good coverages,
you know, styles.
Amik Robertson was solid coverage all day.
But I thought past
rush, pass defense, and that drive to make it 33 to 31 was really the worst defensive drive
of the day. Five plays, 68 yards, it took a minute and six seconds. There was a 20, there was a
18-yard completion, an 11-yard completion, a 15-yard completion, a 17-yard completion, and then
an easy one to cut for the touchdown from seven yards out. Sixty-eight yards, five.
plays. Come on. That's terrible.
So the overall defensively, there were so many good plays made against a really good team,
but they also didn't play well in spots, to say the least. Their third down defense,
three of 13, third down offense, excuse me, three of 13 on offense on third down wasn't good
enough. What else did I have here?
Antonio Williams had a really rough football game.
There's no doubt about it for the rookie who looks so good.
And that's going to be the case with these rookies sometimes.
It's up and down, up and down, and there's not much you can do about it.
And the first half of their rookie season, usually especially at certain positions.
But he looked great in the Philly game.
He had some moments in the Dallas game.
But that drop, there was a fingertip that changed the direction slightly,
but it still landed in his hands,
and it should have been a catch,
and the penalty, of course, was bad.
He did have two catches for 15 yards in the quick game,
and he looks good in getting separation.
He and Diggs get real separation.
There's no doubt about that.
What else?
You know, I did forget one thing on the list of good
if I didn't mention it,
and that's Tressway had another outstanding
outstanding game.
You know, their first drive
that went three and out
and was really one of Marcus's
worst throws, that third and three-throated digs,
which had no shot.
57-yard punt in like a two or three-yard return.
It was a total field-flipping play.
I meant to put that on the list of good.
Yeah.
Oh, I also meant to say Rashad White,
who was on the list of,
of things that I liked also had a really good kickoff return in the game.
I think that's it on the bad list.
All right, a few other observations and then we'll wrap it up.
And I'll add to the show's recap tomorrow on anything I missed.
Some of these I've actually already mentioned.
But let me start with something that I haven't mentioned.
And that is that Larry Izzo's special teams kick and punt
coverage units since he arrived in 2024. They're outstanding. They have been consistently
great. And when you're facing a returner like Rashid Shahid, who can flip a field, who can
change a game, I mean, he's legitimately responsible for home field advantage in the playoffs last
year, which led Seattle to the Super Bowl and a win in the Super Bowl. That Thursday night game late
in the year against the Rams, they're getting their ass kicked, and he returns a
punt for a touchdown and it completely turns the game around. Seattle wins. That gives him home
field advantage, which meant they got to host the NFC title game against the Rams instead of
playing away from home. And Shahid averaged 9.7 yards on three punt returns. He had a decent
kickoff return of 36 yards. But Percy Butler on the kickoff following the field goal that gave
Washington a 27 to 24 lead, I think they hit Knocked Shaheed out of the rest of the game.
I don't think he came back into the game. Butler has been great on teams.
They've had so many dudes here the last two years and now three games that have been great.
They're tone setters.
And look, if you can knock one of the best offensive players in the game, out of the game on special teams,
big time hit from Percy Butler.
Speaking of special teams,
Luke McCaffrey made his season debut,
and he had a decent day,
three kickoff returns for 90 yards,
had a 33-yarder.
I thought he missed a hole on one of the returns
or a cutback opportunity.
I don't think he was on the field offensively.
I don't have snap counts at this point,
but I didn't see him or I didn't make note
of seeing him on the field offensively.
but yeah
he was in the game today
he was active for the first time this year
how about the fact that Washington
decided today to start something
that Philadelphia started Chicago's done
and now you're seeing other teams do it
and that is use a holder on kickoffs
Tressway was holding on kickoffs
and you're allowed to do that
whether there's bad weather and wind and the ball can't stand the T or not.
And you're able to do that with a 12th player.
Tressway was a 12th player on the field.
They didn't use one of the other 10 to hold it.
Tressway held and then left the field after the kickoff.
Philly started to do it recently, took advantage of it,
and apparently a holder and keeping that bowl at an angle.
that maybe a kicker can't get it to with the T, gives them a chance to kick the ball.
You know, dirty kick style, they call it, where the ball's fluttering and bouncing around,
you know, just past the landing zone area.
It's legal.
Philadelphia started to do it, and a league spokesman said this past week,
teams are free to use a 12th man for that purpose.
The kick can happen with a hold.
or without one and just a T.
And the hold can be on a T.
So there you go.
I thought that that was interesting.
It looks like maybe a lot of teams are going to start doing that.
I think I mentioned the delay of game on the first touchdown for Seattle.
Look, they allow typically like a half a beat after the clock hits zeros and they won't flag it.
but I think we got a full beat.
I thought that should have been a delay of game penalty.
What's the other one I had here?
Yeah, I think that's it.
I may add to this list by the time I get to tomorrow.
Oh, Washington got away with a couple of things too.
I thought that Joseph's on his TFL, which was a
four-yard loss on Halani, I think it was.
I thought that was a horse collar.
I thought he grabbed him by the collar and yanked it.
That was one, yeah.
Oh, I also thought that Washington had a punt block on early in the second quarter,
and they roughed the punter Dixon, I thought, and they didn't call it.
So I thought, you know, I didn't love the officiating.
I thought the call on Chase on on the sideline was a terrible call.
I thought that that was a textbook hit for sure.
But they may have gotten away with a few on their own.
Saw Fabian Moreau out there defensively.
I don't know if it was good or bad.
Marcus Mariotta got hit to the head on an 18-yard throat at Terry McCorn.
that didn't get called.
Yeah.
I'll get to some of this other stuff tomorrow.
But let's wrap it up for the night.
Get this show out.
And then after Quinn talks,
and we may get some information on Jaden Daniels tomorrow,
I'll put out a follow-up show,
perhaps with a guest late tomorrow afternoon.
All right, great win, unbelievable win, really.
I had them in the smell test plus the points.
I didn't think they'd win the game.
I really didn't.
I was worried about the game before it started, too.
I will tell you this, that I did get somebody who texted me who said this would be the biggest need for sports books worldwide on this NFL Sunday.
Smell test did not do well this weekend.
It had a dreadful.
It was a dreadful Saturday.
Great day today.
Four one and one in the NFL.
So that's like 11, 2 and 1 the last two weeks in the first two weeks in the year.
in the NFL and I haven't had a losing NFL Sunday yet but overall I think the smell test was here
let me do the math 711 and 1 711 and 1 we'll try to do better next week I had a feeling that it might
be a step back week there was just too much that had gone right in the first few weeks uh all right
enjoy the rest of the football tonight I'll be back tomorrow
tomorrow.
