You don't want it.
You don't need it.
But you're going to get it anyway.
The Kevin Cheon Show.
He is Kevin.
Half a minute, no time out.
Daniels throws down the sideline for Terry McClure.
His loss.
Lightning strikes twice in Washington.
Terry was a part of so many big plays in 2024,
but I don't think any of them were as improbable as that one.
86 yards under 25 seconds to go.
No timeouts.
Down 7 against Dallas at home.
What a catch.
What a run.
Of course, we know what happened after that touchdown.
Austin Seibert came onto the field and missed the extra point.

So it is over.
Finally, the news came earlier today that Terry and the team agreed to a contract extension.
Three years up to $96 million is the reporting out there right now.
Off the table, officially, not that these were ever strong possibilities.
Terry's not going to be traded and Terry won't be holding.
out. On the table officially is that Terry will be playing on a new contract that presumably
makes him happy, makes him feel appreciated, makes him feel respected, and all of the things
that some were worried about, he wouldn't feel if he had to end up playing 2025 on the final
year of his existing contract. Nope, he is now under contract for up to four.
four more seasons. This year, he was already under contract, plus an additional three seasons.
If he keeps playing well, although I would imagine the team has a few painless out opportunities long
before 2028, which would be the final year of this contract extension. But the details of the deal
are not yet out as of the recording of this podcast on Monday afternoon. We have,
have at this point heard the reporting from all corners about the three-year up to $96 million
extension, including some reporting on the signing bonus being $30 million. But what we've seen so
far is basically what the agent has put out there. If you are interested like I am in the
details of this deal, and I know not all of you are, some of you are just thrilled that Terry got the
contract extension. And I'm happy about that, too. Don't get me wrong. But if you are interested
in the contract details, we don't have enough of them to know for sure which side won the deal.
You know, did the team cave, did Terry and his agent cave, or did both sides move enough
to where they got to something they both deemed to be a fair resolution? Typically,
we would have seen the guaranteed money by now that usually gets reported pretty quickly
if it's very favorable by the agent.
That number will tell the tale more than anything else on, again, if you are interested
in the contract details.
Basically, from the agent, a $96 million extension for three years is $32 million per year
on the extension, which puts him at number six among receipts.
receivers in the league at average annual value.
If you factor in the year that he's got left on the deal here in 2025, it comes out to
a four-year contract worth 114.3 million or 28.57 million per year for the four years of the deal.
This year, plus the three additional.
Mike Genetti from SpotRax going to join me next segment.
Mike is the one that put out what he believed to be fair market value for Terry McClorn on Friday.
SpotRack is the site that tracks all-player contracts, salary cap numbers, etc.
He'll have more information on the deal, and if he doesn't have more information on the deal,
he'll at least, I hope, give us what he believes the details will be when they do emerge.
Bottom line, though, Terry has a contract extension, and that means Terry is going to be all in on 2025 and beyond,
and he can legitimately begin preparation for the upcoming season.
I would think personally that since he came off that Pup list on August 16th, and they've been doing, as Quinn describes, you know, the ready to play or the ramping up program, that's been going on for, you know,
over a week now, I would imagine we don't have to worry about will he or won't he practice and
begin practicing for real and will he be ready for full go on Sunday, September 7th in the
opener against the Giants. I mean, from this moment on, he's got nearly two weeks. You know,
he's got all of this week. He's got the entire week leading up to the opener, along with the last,
you know, eight to nine days of the beginning of him coming off that pup list, I don't know,
it's possible they'll say, yeah, we're going to ease him in and he's going to play against the
giants, but he may not, you know, get as many snaps as he typically would. But I would bet that
he will be a full go ready for full snap counts on September 7th in the opener. And if he is,
then if Noah Brown is healthy and he's trending in that direction.
You've got Debo, who's in shape.
You've got Terry with the shiny new extension.
You've got an offensive line that's improved, new and improved, with Tunsell and company,
and maybe even the rookie, Josh Connerly Jr.
They won't have Cosmi more likely than not for the opener,
but he hasn't been ruled out yet.
But I just think that this is heading towards a second,
consecutive year of an offense that will be very difficult to slow down and will be at times
unstoppable. This was a legitimate top five, top six or seven worst case offensive football team last
year. I don't see why it won't be again this year. Jaden is the key, of course, and his health is the
key. But I would think year two in this system with some of the additions they made, this is going to be a very
strong offensive football team again. And I am excited that Terry's going to do it under a new
contract extension rather than have to deal with all of the, and there would be, there would be a lot
of scrutiny on either Terry or the team if he ended up playing out that final year of his deal
and he didn't have a great season. You know, some may even point back to if he doesn't have a great
season, the fact that this took too long. But I think we're looking at an offensive football team
that's going to be really good. I cannot wait for the real games to begin. And, you know,
the giant defense in the opener and then Green Bay's defense, you know, four nights later at the
beginning of week two, really good tests for this offense right from the jump. Now, as far as, you know,
the off-season Terry saga goes.
It's not going to be forgotten anytime soon.
We will remember this off-season and this training camp for Terry McClurens standoff with the team more than anything else.
You know, right from the jump, I thought it would be a tricky deal because of age and because of, you know, how Terry would view himself in terms of the hierarchy of receivers in the NFL.
but I still thought it would be a deal that would get done well in advance or worst case on the eve of training camp.
Dead wrong on that.
We watched Terry during this and heard much more from Terry during this than we did the team.
You know, he revealed how hurt he was by how the negotiations were going,
especially in that Eastern Motors press conference.
We know from some of the real reporting, you know,
take a Charles Robinson Yahoo Sports as an example, that the team was stunned by how much Terry
initially asked for, you know, close to Justin Jefferson, top two money. So, you know, as this thing
was evolving, we knew Terry was hurt, and then we found out the team was shocked. And then it all
started, man, Terry held out, then he demanded a trade, then he held in and got ppped with an ankle injury.
I say that in air quotes.
Then he got unpubed.
Then he didn't post for the Bengals preseason game a week ago tonight.
Then he did post for the Baltimore game on Saturday,
where he did not appear to be super happy and seemed to be a bit isolated.
But here we are.
No trade.
No playing on the final year of his deal.
He signs the extension.
Why did it have to happen this way?
Or why did it happen this way?
I would start with what I think we know to be true.
When the contract details will answer some of this when we see what the actual details of the contract look like, you know.
But I think the bottom line is when two sides are as far apart as these two sides reportedly were.
And I think, you know, reportedly by really solid reporters, you know, Terry at 35 plus.
to start with the team, say 24 to 25 to start with, and both sides are dug in. It's not going to
end quickly. You know, it's not like we were just a few million dollars off here. Let's get it done.
If Terry really was asking initially for, you know, Justin Jefferson Territory, 35 plus million,
as Charles Robinson reported, and others have suggested as well. And the team was really offering
something close to like 24 or 25. A 10 to 11 million dollars per year for three years is a huge
difference. That's not a contract that's going to get resolved quickly. So I think in terms of those
that would say, why couldn't you just get to this a month ago or three weeks ago? I think it's because
they were significantly far apart. Now, I guess it would be easy to chalk it up to
to, you know, deadlines make deals.
We're not really at the ultimate deadline,
which is kind of that week leading into the regular season.
We could chalk it up to, you know,
what we had talked about early on in this,
and that is, man, the 49ers,
they let these deals just drag through the summer,
drag through summer camp, training camp,
and then a lot of their, you know,
recent big deals were done late August,
even early September.
Adam Peters, maybe this is stylistic.
who he's going to be as a big deal negotiator, both things may have played a role.
You know, his style and, you know, nearing a deadline, deadlines make deals.
I would suggest that something happened here recently to speed up the process of getting a deal.
Because a week, week and a half ago, and I wasn't the only person saying this, you know,
a lot of us were hearing that the team was fed up and that this wasn't going to come anywhere near where Terry wanted it to come.
And now what we have is on the surface anyway, three years 96 million seems like the team may have given in a bit.
Again, we won't know until we see the details.
And I have a feeling the details will paint a different picture than the picture painted by the agent.
but we'll wait for that, and we'll talk to Michael Genetti about that as well.
This initial media burst, as I sit here in mid-afternoon on Monday, with just the three-year
$96 million, $30 million at signing that we know of, that could be the agent's opportunity
to market the result in the best way he can.
We'll know.
We'll see what comes later.
And maybe by the time you're listening to this, the details on guaranteed dollars may be out there,
but not as of yet.
So it's hard to really, you know, analyze who caved,
maybe both courts, decided just, hey, let's move towards the center on this thing.
Who knows?
I'm going to talk a little bit about the preseason finale against the Ravens,
which I admit I did not watch live.
I watched the condensed version last night.
It's a hard product to watch, man.
But with the 53 man cut down coming tomorrow,
I do have a few thoughts.
But let's get to Michael Genetti from SpotRack now, and we will do that right after.

A lot of seven.
This one has launched for McCorren.
He's got it.
Touchdown!
Touchdown Terry McCorn.
A lot of wow moments in 2024, but that was the first of them.
Week three, Monday night football in Cincinnati,
third down in seven with just over two minutes to go,
clinging to a five-point lead and facing an all-out banged.
Blitz and Jaden laid one up in the face of that blitz perfectly to Terry McClorn in the end zone.
Terry made a great catch, got both feet in, and Washington was off to a two and one start.
That was clearly Jaden's coming out party, but it was also the first big night of the season
and the first big catch of the season for Terry McClorn, who ended up with 100 yards on four
receptions that night. This segment of the show is brought to you by Window Nation. If you've been

All right now is Mike Genetti.
co-founder of what I used to call SpotRack. Mike doesn't care what we call him as long as we call
him. But I did find out in speaking with Mike right before we started to record this interview
that, you know, the proper pronunciation is Spot Track. So from now on, SpotRack, which I've
referenced many times over the years, is Spot Track. Mike, thanks so much. By the way, you can
follow Mike on X on Twitter.
At Spot Track, it's spelled SPOTR-A-C.
All right.
So the reason I asked you to come on the show initially was to kind of describe what you thought,
which I referenced the other day, why, you know, you thought what you thought was sort of fair
market value for a Terry McLauran deal.
Well, now the conversation is.
different because Terry is in the fold for a three-year contract, which has been described as up to
$96 million. So let me just start by getting your reaction on it and what is still to come in terms
of the information on this deal. Yeah, the latter the most important here, right, is we don't necessarily
have nearly enough guts to fully assess this thing. And it's probably not a great sign that we don't
know the guaranteed number just yet, and hopefully that comes out here soon.
But look, we know enough to know that he's happy.
He's going to be a suit and back up, and that's obviously step one.
The $96 million assessment, right, over three years of new,
is certainly what the agent's been pushing for here.
You wanted to be in the D.K. Metcalf conversation.
Certainly wanted to be ahead of all the WR2s in the league.
So you understand the number being there.
But look, we'll see what this thing looks like over the next two years.
We're hearing a $30 million signing bonus.
That's very good news for this year because just on its surface, Kevin,
that means minimum salary, the roster bonus he's already been paid plus this signing bonus.
He's in $34, $35 million range for 2025 alone.
So, you know, $15 to $18 million pay raise this year.
That's pretty good for step one.
Now we've got to learn about 2026 and make sure that's fully guaranteed, or this could very well be a one for 35, and he's walking the door in March.
What do you think it'll be? Do you have a hunch?
I got to tell you that when I saw the numbers initially, even though these are surface numbers, my gut instinct having done this now for so long was, man, if he's getting that much this year, there's a really good chance that this is a one-and-day.
done scenario, that he is probably not guaranteed next year. Now, look, he can play himself
in a year two and year three, no question about it. But I have a feeling that the concession
that came from Terry McLaurin is I'll front-load myself for a bunch of cash this year,
but I'm going to give in to the point where Washington can still get out of this thing in
2026. So we'll see if it gets there. I'm hoping not. I'm hoping this is a fully guaranteed
two-year contract down at surface, but my gut instinct says it could be a one for 35.
So when you view it on the best case for him, you view it as like a two-year guarantee deal.
What would that guarantee equal?
Yeah, fair market value, and what I kind of put out last week was two for 50.
Yeah.
Okay, so you can front-load that at 30 and bring it down a little bit when he's 31 years old next year.
You know, obviously now knowing what we know here with some of these early numbers, two for 60s, probably the fair market.
You know, you want to be on a $30 million per year pace with your game.
guarantees because of the going rates of these wide receiver contracts.
So anything under that 60 mark, I think, is probably a player concession.
But like I said, I'm concerned that there's nothing after 30 at this point in time.
Interesting.
Well, we'll find out, I guess, soon enough.
How quickly do we usually find out?
Doesn't this deal have to be reported by the team and the agent to, I mean, you end up with all of the
details of all of these contracts?
typically what is the time frame before we learn exactly what this deal is?
Generally speaking, we know a little bit more than we do right now,
and this is about an hour now past where we've been when you and are talking here, Kevin.
So it's a little light today.
The league will probably process this thing at 4 p.m. Eastern today.
We'll start to hear more information tomorrow morning, I would guess,
and then within 72 hours, because this is obviously a busy NFL time here with cutdowns.
We'll know the full guts of this thing,
but we should know within the next 24 hours just how strong the guarantees are over the course of the next two seasons.
Yeah, so the wide receiver market, the first thing you said is, you know, at least the AAV puts him in number one wide receiver territory,
meaning away from T. Higgins, you know, as an example.
And I think that's the best example, right, of the number two's that he's got the biggest number two deal.
in the league, I think, per spot track at 28.7.5 million a year.
Why is that so important for the agent when really it's about where you are on the list of
wide receivers, I would think, because Higgins just happens to play next to the best wide receiver
in the league? Yeah, there's no question. Look, this is just one of those posturing moves that
agents still love to take, which is, you know, building.
out their own top 15, top 20 list, just like we all do.
And, you know, fans and media and kind of left and right up and down.
But there's just a hierarchy that has to exist.
And when you're talking about usage rate and things like that, you know, I know that you
deal in the basketball world, that's a big term in the football world as well.
Yeah. If you're out kicking your coverage, right, if your targets as a wide receiver
are in the WR1 range, regardless of what your overall production works like,
There's a conversation to be had about being compensated fairly.
And that's certainly been in McCloran's case, not only in 2024, which was his biggest usage year ever,
but certainly going back to five, six years that he's been with the franchise.
Real quickly, not to spend a lot of time going backwards, but how did you arrive at what you tweeted out the other day as fair market value for Terry?
Yeah, so we go off a two-year production plan, right?
And we take that two-year production and we match it, we kind of algorithmly AI match it with four other wide receivers that had very similar production in the two years leading up to their big wide receiver extension.
So a lot of it happens behind the scenes, but that the mathematically speaking, Terry McClure is about a 27 and a half, $28 million per year wide receiver just on its surface.
And that's obviously with age being a part of it too.
That's a factor that we take into consideration here.
So, you know, it's hovering right around that top WR2 number in terms of fair market.
And, oh, by the way, you know, the $96 million plus the 19 in change that he was already going to make from his previous contract.
You do that over four years, and you're at $28 million a year.
So you can understand how these numbers all kind of come together, Kevin.
But anyway, the agent can sell it as top billing.
He's going to do it.
And I think that's what we're seeing here in a pretty nice performance from Buddy Baker out there.
So is that really how you're viewing it?
I mean, I want to cut to the chase here.
It sounds to me like maybe you feel like the teams letting the agent have his day today.
There's no question.
Generally speaking, we see it from both sides fairly quickly.
You know, the Adam Schafters, the rap sheets of the world, they get their information from both sides.
You see two different fac-similes versions are sent out, and we're just not seeing that Washington side yet.
And that could just be that they're busy because there's 40 people to cut on every roster right now.
It could also be that the agent has jumped the gun a little bit here,
and he's just trying to make sure that the world knows the McLaren is not in the same boat
as these other hold-ins players that are heading towards the final week of the offseason here without a contract.
So we'll get some more information quickly, but look, it's great news.
This is not a situation I thought we get to.
I'm going to be honest with that.
I thought for sure that Washington had put their foot down.
they were not going to budge and that this was not going to be a situation that was going to be rectified in
2025. So it's excellent news on that front. Very good. Real quickly, while I have you on,
tell me what your thoughts are on Micah Parsons and whether or not they get something done before the season starts in Dallas.
Oh, I'm going to need a soapbox here, Kevin. This one's tough. No, this one's tough.
You've got to come at from both sides. If Dallas wants to get this done,
this point in time, and I realize we've seen this story quite a bit, they're going to have to go
into a different stratosphere. So if this thing was 38 to 40 million a year in February when the
napkin offer was written to them, it's 45 million a year in terms of an average salary,
a new average salary. It's just where we have to be. You know, Miles Garrett didn't even really
wind that much and got 40 million from the Cleveland Browns. And the Micaheparson scenario from an age
perspective, a production perspective, is just markedly better than that. So you're going to have to
blow him away, I think, to even get him off of that table, training table, and listening to an
offer right now, and especially because I'm pretty sure his agent has all but blocked Jerry Jones
phone number at this point in time. So the number is going to have to be absurd if we're talking
about a brand new extension. Outside of that, from the player's perspective, Kevin, I'm not sure I'm
picking up that phone. I really am not. I don't know if Michael Parsons is going to show up for week
one. We'll see how that works in terms of a hold-in versus a hold-out, and if you start losing
money. But I really do think this is a scenario where Michael Parsons and the agent have come together
and said, we're going to be the one that put her foot down and keep it down with this organization.
And if that gets to a trade, so be it. Otherwise, this could be quite the story for the next,
at least six to seven weeks before we start talking about that.
contract having a toll and maybe him losing an accrued season going forward.
What do you think the issue is? Do they not like each other?
You know, that is the sense that I get, and that's different than
Dak Prescott and C.D. Lamb and all the other versions of this that we've had come out of Dallas.
It does seem like Micah has rubbed some people the wrong way, both in the locker room and
with the front office, and it's just, I think, his personality. He's not one of those bona fide,
you know, perfect leaders that organizations want to be throwing money at.
And in that regard, I think Jerry Jones has said, we're going to moneyball that situation.
We're going to keep the control of it.
We're going to put it on our terms.
I'm going to keep the agent out of it so I can gain more control in that regard.
But yeah, it does seem like it's more about the off-the-field stuff than it is the on-the-field stuff.
Because if we're just talking about the player on the field, the math certainly seeks in his favor.
But do you think that he's Miles Garrett or T.J. Watt?
in terms of being that that pinnacle franchise defense player.
I do.
You do, okay.
Yeah, I do.
I think he goes to a different organization and looks just like this with a little less drama.
Now, maybe not.
Maybe his personality is a bit toxic to the point of where, you know,
Jerry Jones isn't as crazy as we're all putting him out to be.
But it does seem like the production on the field should outweigh all of that at this point in time,
especially because he's still so young compared to those other players.
And what about Trey Hendricks?
completely different, right?
Much more like the McCoran conversation here, which is...
Because of age.
It just feels like...
Yeah, it feels like you just have to sweeten the pot again.
You did it in 2023.
I don't think there was an understanding that you were going to finish out this contract then, right?
Because that's crazy in the NFL.
It just doesn't work that way.
You get the three years in a contract, and it's a dinosaur contract in this league
because the revenues and the caps are just jumping so much.
But, you know, you want to do right by him.
It's clearly Cincinnati's trying to keep their foot down on this one.
I hope it looks exactly like this.
I hope it's three for 100, two years fully guaranteed,
and everybody's happy, and a contending player and a contending team can get out there and do his job.
But we'll see if it's that easy.
Cincinnati has been much more stubborn with these things over the past,
so I don't expect it'll be that easy.
Thanks for doing this, as always.
Mike Genetti from Spot Track.
It is the site, really, for NFL, NBA, baseball, baseball,
hockey, contracts, payrolls, salary cap breakdowns, etc.
It has been my go-to for several years now.
I appreciate the time, Mike, and we'll see how this Terry thing plays out when we have more
information.
But he is, as you said, the good news is I didn't think he was going to hold out anyway.
I think that would have been silly for him.
I think he was going to always play, but he's going to play on at least more money for
this year and maybe even in 2026 as well and beyond.
Thanks.
Always a pleasure, Kevin.
Michael Genetti from Spot Track, everybody, with some good thoughts.
Again, by the time you listen to this, maybe a lot of it will be dated,
but I'm going to try to get the show out much earlier today than typical.
I'm going to finish up the show with some thoughts on Saturday's preseason finale.
Thank God it's over.
And a thought or two, not many, on the 53-man.
cut down tomorrow. We'll get to that and more after these words from a few of our sponsors.
So guys, if you're like me and you've basically been buying and wearing the same type of underwear
for years, in my case, boxer briefs, same brand, same type for a long time, well, not anymore
for me. I want to tell you about skims for men, something I've discovered recently, the softest
underwear I've ever worn. I got a few pairs of the five-inch boxer briefs so comfortable. No matter
what you're doing from sitting in a chair in your office to working out, they are so comfortable.
They don't bunch up. They were made to recover from every stretch. The fabric is cool to the touch,
and it just seems to mold to your body and never loses its shape. This is so different from the
synthetic feeling I used to get from what I used to wear. Skims is made with an undeniable
soft mid-weight cotton that allows you to breathe. Skims for men. It comes in multiple colors,
multiple sizes. Shop skims men's at skims.com. Let them know I sent you. After you place your order,

Here it is.
To the end zone.
It is caught.
Touchdown.
The timing was to perfection.
McCoran with the grab.
Terry McLaren led the league last year in contested catches.
I think that may have been the best of the contested catches.
It came in week six in their game against the Ravens in Baltimore.
It was a fourth and goal with Washington trailing 27 to 13 early in the fourth quarter.
Jaden kind of flushed left and threw a ball to Terry at that front pylon in the end zone.
And it seemed like there was literally no chance of a completion, no chance that the defender wouldn't break it up.
No chance that if Terry got his pause on it, he'd stay in bounds while catching it.
And yet he hauled it in, got both feet in.
It was a 27 to 20 game.
And that game, just like a lot of games last year, you know, they needed to get off the field at a critical moment in that game.
Because it was a competitive game.
Offensively, they played well.
Remember, that game was without Brian Robinson, Jr.
But they just couldn't stop Derek Henry, Lamar Jackson, and they ended up losing 30 to 23.
but I thought that was Terry's best contested catch of the year,
and not one that got talked about a lot.

All right, tomorrow is cut down date.
4 p.m. deadline for teams to get down to 53, and then remember they have the practice
squad opportunity after that, up to 17 players now on practice squad.
watch the game Saturday live. Hence, no post game, although I don't think I did a post game
last year after the third preseason game. The third preseason game is the worst of the three.
Although, given the amount of time in advance of the opener, I'm surprised more teams don't play
more starters. Kansas City did. Mahomes was out there for a series or two, threw for like 150 yards
in a touchdown. Pacheco was out there. Kelsey Schuster, Rishi Rice. I mean, you know,
they've won some Super Bowls. They've played pretty well. I think there's a benefit to,
you know, playing your starters in this third preseason game versus the second preseason game.
You're closer to the regular season. Washington's starting offense, which basically played between
four and 11 snaps will have, you know, a three and a half week period.
Well, not three and a half because they played on Monday night against Cincinnati,
but it'll be almost three weeks until they play again.
Maybe that's why some of the teams treated it differently.
But Baltimore and Washington basically played backups and backups to the backups
and the backups to the backups to the backups all night long.
Washington lost 30 to 3 in this game.
Let me just mention real quickly.
I know what the point differential was for the preseason.
They got outscored 109 to 38.
That's a 71 point differential in an 0.N3 preseason.
I don't care at all, not even a little bit.
And those of you that have pushed me to care a little bit about depth, I don't care about that.
I'll have much more, I think, informed opinions after they play three or four, you know,
regular season games where the starters are in there for a lot longer, like the whole game.
And even the depth players are in there for even longer than they've been in some of the
preseason games.
I just can't take this stuff seriously, guys.
I can't.
I mean, the starters barely played at all for this team in the preseason.
We'll see them for real on September 7th.
Until then, I don't care about the results.
I care that nobody got seriously injured during this preseason.
Thankfully, I care now that the one big contract standoff has come to an end,
and one of their best players will be playing on a contract extension,
which was always the preference.
All of the other stuff, it just doesn't matter.
I know it matters to some of you.
I have heard from many of you that it matters to.
And I think most of you, it's not about, you know, the record.
It's more about, you know, the fact that they got blown out, you know, in two of the three games.
And that there's a concern that you have over, you know, certain players, like the wide receiver position and then depth at certain areas.
I just can't get worked up about it.
This was not a deep football team last year,
and I don't know that we are going to know for sure
if they've improved their depth until the games begin,
not the games that were just played.
So the team did start the cut down.
Let me just mention this because I just got this press release
literally like two minutes ago.
The team released six players on their way down to 53.
The player that they signed like a week and a half ago, the guy Bassie, the cornerback,
they cut Michael Gallup, they cut the center, Nick Harris, the tackle Phillips,
the defensive tackle Pollard, and the wide receiver, Braylin Sanders.
So no surprises in the first six cuts.
I don't think anybody thought Michael Gallup was going to make the team in his return to football
after getting a sense of where he resided on the depth charts.
Now, the game on Saturday, I didn't watch live.
I did watch the condensed version, as mentioned.
And there were a couple of things from this game that I wanted to mention.
First of all, is it, you know, a big deal or not that Chris Rodriguez played and Bill Kroski-Mert didn't?
Is that a tell that Bill Kroski-Mert is going to be the starter on opening day against the Giants?
and they didn't want to put him out there to risk injury.
I don't believe that it was.
I think that after Monday night, where he went into the second half,
and the short turnaround to the game Saturday at noon,
after he had had the shoulder injury from the week before,
I think they just wanted to keep him healthy.
Chris Rodriguez did get five carries in the game.
I thought he looked really good, but against two.
But I think every time we see Chris Rodriguez run the football,
he looks good.
He had 34 yards on five carries.
That's 6.8 yards per carry.
But again, I have felt confident about Chris Rodriguez's running ability
based on his performance in actual games.
Let me tell you just the condensed version.
The most impressive player for me in the game was not a Washington player.
It was Baltimore running back Rashine Ali, number 20.
Nine carries 36 yards. He did a lot of his damage on that opening drive of the game when they went right down the field and scored to take a 7-0 lead.
They did it pretty much on the ground with Cooper Rush. Yeah, he's the backup in Baltimore now.
You know what? Cooper Rush is a pretty good backup quarterback in the NFL, if I'm being honest.
We've seen a lot of him in Dallas the last few years. But, you know, they took the ball and went 70 yards in 14.
teams and they did a lot of their damage on the ground.
And it was this guy, Rashine Ali, and I bring them up because if he were to get released
and it looks like Baltimore might keep four backs, Keaton Mitchell is healthy, looks really good
to go with Justice Hill and, of course, Derek Henry.
But I talked to one of my Ravens friends who had actually mentioned Ali's name to me when
we were talking about running backs a while back.
He thinks they're going to keep him that he's.
too talented to let go. But if he were to hit waivers, Washington's way down the waiver
claim list, remember, because it's based on last year's records for the first, up to the first
three weeks of the regular season. So Washington's not going to be able to claim a lot of the
players that they used to have an opportunity to claim because they were good last year. So other
teams, there will be many teams in front of them. But I thought number 26 looked really
impressive. I thought Chris Rodriguez
looked impressive. The guy that I mentioned
last week, I don't know if he's going to
make the team or not, but
the kid Ale Cahoe,
the linebacker number
51, he just
looks like a football player
and an NFL linebacker to me.
Again, the competition
matters, the scheme matters,
but the guy is
really an
athlete, and he hits, and
he tackles, and he just
flashes consistently did in this game he did last week against the Bengals. And I mentioned him
because I really did not even notice him before Monday night. And I said, I don't know who number
51 is, but I think he is a player worth keeping an eye on. And then he flashed again in the
game on Saturday. Ben has him making the team. We'll see if there's enough room for him.
It was good to see Jordan McGee on the field. They really like him.
They think he has a big-time future, as in like when Bobby Wagner retires, Jordan McGee, is the replacement.
The tight end Yankoff, man, he's an athlete, there's no doubt.
We've known that for a while, but he had the play of the day that catch for 52 yards, did a great job running after the catch.
He's got some speed to him.
He's got some athleticism to him.
I think he's going to make the team.
He played quarterback, you know, in college here and there.
He's got a lot of ability to perhaps be even maybe like a gadget player if he's in the game.
I don't think this is going to cost Senate his job.
I don't.
But I think Yankoff is on the team.
I thought Jacori Brooks number 16, the wide receiver who really flashed against the Patriots,
I just think he looks like an NFL receiver.
the way he gets separation, the way he gets separation at, you know, especially out of his break,
the way he attacks the ball, his hands, his size.
I don't know if there's a spot for him on this receiver list.
They're going to keep four running backs.
We know that.
I don't know if they'll keep Kaz Allen.
That would be a fifth.
That would be interesting.
Clearly, that would be for kickoff returns.
But I like what Brooks appears to be as a player.
These are player evaluations.
That tight end number 89 looks like an NFL tight end to me.
Didn't know anything about him.
He's like 6.5 and 225.
He is certainly a pass-catching tight end.
Probably not for this team, but Lawrence Cager is his name.
He's in his fourth season.
He has bounced around.
He's had some catches.
He caught 13 balls for the Giants in 22, and then he was injured.
last year.
Who else on my notes here?
Hartman can't play, man.
He's not an NFL quarterback, and I think a big issue is going to be, will
Marioada be ready for the opener, or will Josh Johnson be the third stringer,
or will a guy like Jeff Driscoll, who's still a free agent,
be signed for the early portion of the season if they're not comfortable with
Hartman or Johnson and Marioita can't play?
That's a story to kind of keep a story.
an eye on, which is Mario's health and whether or not he's going to be able to be there as the
backup to Jaden for the opener.
Matt Gay missed a kick again. He's not going anywhere. They're going to give him the regular
season, certainly the first few games to see if they got it right on a one year $4.6 million
deal, 4.4 of it or 4.5 of it guaranteed. That's it. You know, as far as,
the cuts. Look, I'd refer you to Ben Standing in his substack column. He's really good at this.
I stopped doing the, you know, trying to predict the last, you know, spots 48 through 53 a few
years ago. It's hard unless you really have some information or unless you listen to the coaches
and they're giving you some insight because the preseason performance, the preseason
game performance does not always tell the tale on things like this at all. It's really more about
what's happening in practice and maybe what happened in that joint practice with the Patriots.
I think the Luke McCaffrey situation, I'd be surprised if he got released. I'd keep an eye
on KJ. Osborne. He's a pro and he's produced at a high level as a pro. Plus, he plays special
teams. That will be the differentiator certainly for a lot.
of the decisions that they make for roster spots 48, 49, 50 through 53.
But I think, you know, over the summer, the most interesting development was that they
turned away from Brian Robinson Jr., ended up trading them and getting a sixth round pick.
We talked about that on Friday show.
Good job by Adam Peters, no doubt.
But will they have, you know, Brian Robinson, Jr., plus.
production from their solution, which right now is a combination of Austin Echler, Debo Samuel,
but really in terms of Brian Robinson Jr.'s role, Chris Rodriguez and Bill Kroski Merritt.
Because I'll say what I said on Friday and I've said before, I think Brian Robinson,
Jr. was okay. He was nothing special. And I thought once the season ended, they would be
looking to move on from him, especially in the draft, a loaded running back.
draft. But they didn't. They waited until the seventh round. They liked their seventh rounder,
clearly. But, you know, getting something back for him is certainly better than releasing him.
But Kyle Shanahan knows a thing or two about running backs, you know, and they went and traded a
sixth round pick because Christian McCaffrey isn't always healthy. Yeah. So that's,
basically it on the roster. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out at receiver, see how
it shakes out, you know, defensively up front in particular. You know, I don't think a guy like
Eddie Goldman, you know, who they signed in the offseason, I don't think he's likely going to make
the team. He was out there in the game. You know, you get a sense sometimes who's out there playing,
but I don't think a guy, I think Kane Madrano is an interesting prospect. I loved him after
watching him. I think he's got a chance to make it, but he's really been out there for the majority
of these games. But that happens with rookies. We'll see. McAfree got a lot of work. Does that mean
he's in trouble? I don't know. I'd be surprised, to be honest with you, if Luke McCaffrey
got released. Some interesting league news. Sam Hal got traded again, traded from Minnesota,
where I said, if anybody's going to make him work, it'll be Kevin O'Connell.
Well, they are moving on from Sam Hal.
They traded him to the Eagles where he'll be, presumably,
the third string quarterback behind Tanner McKee and Jalen Hertz.
Jamon Davis got released by the Jets.
Ron Rivera's prowess as a general manager continues to impress.
And then maybe, to me, it's not the biggest story,
but it may have been the most talked about story
from over the weekend.
Is Shadur Sanders, apparently being in the game at the end,
but getting different plays called for him than Dylan Gabriel got called?
People, you know, accusing Kevin Stafansky and the Browns of sabotaging Shadur
Sanders even in a racist way.
That seems to be the most ridiculous thing that I've seen in a few, you know,
a few days anyway on social media.
It doesn't take long before you get something else.
Ridiculous.
First of all, he was replaced by Tyler Huntley.
Tyler Huntley's Black.
This is the franchise that gave Deshawn Watson the most guaranteed money ever.
Shadur Sanders may have been playing with different players
because that's the level that he's at on the roster.
Dylan Gabriel was picked in the third round,
Shadur Sanders, in the fifth round.
He was sacked five times on fifth.
15 snaps. Apparently that is the most in 10 years in the preseason. I think Aaron Shats may have put that out.
But, you know, it's preseason. And Cleveland's not going to sabotage this kid. They need a quarterback.
They're trying to find out if any of these kids can play. But remember, when he got drafted,
a lot of people said that, look, he's not a first round pick, but he is a night two pick, maybe second or third.
rounder. But you have to make the decision is, as Tommy would say, the juice worth the squeeze.
Like if you're going to have Shudder Sanders, as your backup quarterback, there's going to be a lot of
stuff going on and a lot of attention paid to it. Are you willing to deal with that? In some of what
the reaction to Sanders after he played great in the preseason opener and the reaction to Sanders
in a very ugly way after the game the other night against the Rams,
is why some teams probably said, no.
We don't even, we don't think he's a starter.
We think at best he's a backup quarterback,
and there are plenty of backup quarterbacks
that don't come with, you know,
the potential drama that Shadur will come with.
And that's not all his doing.
It's his father. It's Colorado.
It's the, you know, the spotlight that he was under
over the last two college football seasons.
All right. I think that's it for the day. Back tomorrow with Tommy.
Daniels quick road far side. Get it out there to McCloren.
Brits through Terry McClorin. Foot race. McCloran. It's going to win. Touchdown. Washington.
