You don't want it.
You don't need it.
But you're going to get it anyway.
The Kevin Cheehan Show.
Here's Kevin.
Tommy's here.
I am here.
The show's presenting sponsor, as always,
Window Nation.
86690 Nation,
Window Nation.com.
You need new windows.
Tommy, I'm going to start with this from Jay Money.
Jay Money writes,
Hey, Kevin, I'm a big fan of the show.
I've been listening to you since I was a little kid.
I'm 28 now.
man, that always blows me away.
Like I've now, you've been doing this longer than I have,
but I'm now on like year 21 or something like that.
And I never think of it that way,
because for me, as you know,
this was like a second professional career.
I always kind of consider myself to be,
no, Andy and Zabe and Tommy and Doc and everybody,
they've been around much longer than I've been around.
And actually, it's now getting up there.
Two decades is getting up there, isn't it?
Yes.
Yes, it is.
I've been doing this part-time and full-time for 25 years, yet I never think of myself as a radio guy first.
I always think of myself as a newspaper man first.
Yes.
Well, you newspaper people always will think that way.
Because we're snobby.
You're very snobby when it comes to the whole sports talk genre.
Yes.
All right, anyway, let me continue with Jay Money's email.
I'm 28 now, Lifelong Skins slash commies fan.
A little point of view and something I haven't heard you guys mention on the show.
Yes, the name drove away older fans.
Yes, Snyder drove away fans of all ages.
But one more part, I'd add.
I grew up in northern Virginia, went to one of the all guys high school,
in the area.
It should have been right for home team fans,
but we sucked and we were embarrassing.
So most of those guys primarily became fantasy football fans
and eventually betting, you know, fans.
Part of the Snyder residue is that 10 years of young men
who care more about hitting their parlayes
than their team winning,
because that's how they learn to watch.
I love fantasy and I love betting,
but there's a definite separate fandom,
especially when the gravitational pull of the skins was so weak,
curious for your thoughts.
Totally agree with that.
Well, you know what?
But here's the thing.
I mean, that's not a separate category.
That falls under the Snyder damage.
Yes, no, I was going to say it falls, and he says,
it falls under the Snyder damage because they sucked and they were
It's embarrassing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So it's not like we left out a factor.
That's part of the many contributions of the Snyder.
The structure, look, I'm sure Eagles fans play fantasy and bet, you know, and they're passionate about their team.
Yes.
And they have plenty of fans.
So I just think, I mean, what he was trying to do was say, we didn't include something.
And I think when we mentioned Snyder, we included a lot of stuff.
100%. I think that your point about Philadelphia fans, if Washington had been a really good team and not an embarrassing sucky team, then people like Jay Money and my boys would not only be into fantasy and be into betting, but they'd also be into the football team here that plays in D.C.
And they'd be big fans of both.
Yeah.
It's not like different rocket science formulas.
People can juggle these activities passionately.
Yes, I agree.
I agree.
But there is no doubt.
And I saw it with a lot of my sons and their friends.
I mean, it was fantasy.
And look, I've seen a lot of them also now become fans of the team, much more so than they used to be.
I also see something with young people that we don't even talk about a lot, at least the young people that I'm exposed to, which would be my sons and their friends, they all want the old name back too.
Like I've said this before, but it's more about how you were, you know, did you grow up here?
Was your father or mother or both big redskinned fans?
You have an attachment, even if you're 28 years old to that name as well, if that's who you're.
grew up seeing your parents root for.
You know, but this area changes a lot, and a lot of young people either didn't have any
affiliation to the team, so the name, the old name doesn't mean anything to them, or they
grew up here, but their parents weren't big fans of the team, or, you know, or maybe their,
their parents just, they moved away from all of the losing as well as they were growing up.
My boys grew up Redskin fans, all right?
as bad as they were, they grew up Redskin fans.
You know, there were Santana Moss jerseys in the house,
Chris Cooley jerseys in the house,
LeVar Arrington jerseys in the house,
not mine, but for them, you know, the kid sizes.
I've never been a Jersey guy, as you know.
And they were big Redskins fans,
and I took them to games,
and they came out and watched me do pre-game shows
and post-game shows wherever I was, you know, on game day,
and they would come out to the Bud Pavilion before games,
you know, because they loved, you know, all of the free food,
where we did the pregame show.
But, you know, they weren't diehards.
They just knew I was.
But they didn't have the opportunity to have these memorable moments,
you know, rooting for the team.
And, you know, two of my three boys who are much bigger sports fans than my oldest son,
they definitely are,
into, much to my dismay, by the way, and I'm sure I'm responsible for it, but I think they
would have gotten sucked into it anyway. But they bet on it. They bet, and they've got fantasy
teams, but they bet on it. I mean, I'm in group texts with a lot of them, like, Dad, what do
you think about this tonight? And it's, by the way, just so any parent out there and any mature
parent out there understands, I do discourage it. I've always discouraged.
it and I've said, you can, this, everything in moderation, but this will get you in trouble.
I know from experience that this is not a way to generate, you know, income.
This is, this is not a profession, okay, other than for maybe a half dozen people around the planet.
That's it. That's the list.
And, you know, go ahead.
I don't bet on sports.
I know you do.
Even though I used to, when I go out to Vegas, I put a bet or something like that.
You know, but I was always more of a horse guy.
But, I mean, look, I can remember back in the early 70s when I was working out of high school
playing the parlay cards every weekend.
Yeah.
You know, I remember doing that.
And it's not that I wouldn't.
And it's funny because now it's so easily accessible.
And it's just not something I do.
Maybe I'll do it occasionally, you know, on my bookie.com, I will occasionally, you know, place a bet.
Good job.
I'm so inspired.
Good job, yeah.
Yeah.
That's where you should be betting.
MyBooky, the Kevin Sheeonshow.com slash my bookie promo code, DC reload.
I'm going to give you a smell test pick here in this opening segment for tonight's Giants' Eagles game.
Tommy.
But, yeah, I don't, I don't bet.
and I thought I would be.
I thought I'd be inactive better.
You know,
that was in my means.
I've always been able to do that.
But I just don't.
I grew up with a father who was a big sports fan.
I was very lucky.
We had Redskins season tickets.
We had Terps season tickets.
And my father,
every week in the mail,
would get the list of games with the,
you know,
the initial opening.
point spreads because my father bet sports. And that's how I got introduced to it. Not only did my father
bet it, but my uncle's bet football. And I had an older male cousin much older than I was. He was
into betting. And I remember that's kind of the allure early on. And then when we got to a certain
age in school, my best friend was definitely a degenerate gambler as well. And so that's where it started.
And then in college is where it really started, you know, in terms of having a little bit of
disposable income because you're working over the summer, et cetera. And I'm going to tell you what,
everything was big at a big state school like Maryland in the 80s. From gambling to a lot of different
substances, I'll just say. There was no shortage of opportunity to do things that weren't healthy for you
in the mid-80s in College Park. So it sounds like when they write the history of the Sheean family,
one generational theme that will run through this thing is you were all gamblers. Well, I,
my father was and then he wasn't because he understood and he learned the lessons. I learned the
lessons. I'm nowhere near what I, you know, was at one point in my life. I mean, you know this about me.
I mean, I went to Vegas six, seven times a year, you know, up until about, you know, 15 years ago.
But I will say this. Like, I have three boys. They're all very different. But the two that are
major sports fans, they do bet a lot and they bet on football and all of their friends do because it's so much more
accessible. I can sit there and say to all of them, look, don't do this. You shouldn't do it. You're
going to lose more than you're going to win. This is not a job ever. But if you can handle it in
moderation, you know, nothing I say is going to stop them. I can share with them the pitfalls of
this. I can share with them that, you know, over time, you're going to lose. And so it's really a
waste of time, but it's too accessible now, man. It's all legal. They're not betting a legal.
If you bet with like bet with your head, not over it, it's a lot of fun. Like anything, Tommy.
Cigar smoking outside of, you know, the press box, you know, a few cocktails here and there.
Moderation. Moderation. If you can do everything in moderation. I had, I've told you stories. I mean,
All of my friends at Maryland were betters, all of them.
And there were some ugly outcomes because of it.
Very ugly outcomes.
I consider myself to be very fortunate.
I mean, I did have a bit of a governor at times.
Like, I was able to control it.
But I had friends that were not.
I've told you the story about my friend who, you know,
we were at the Bullets Mavericks game with basically so much money on the game for
two 20-year-olds, that it just, it wasn't even right what we had wagered on that game.
And it was, we were down that much.
And they let us fire away on the last day of the week.
And we fired away on the bullets laying three and a half against the Mavericks at home.
And we went to the Capitol Center and watched the game.
And they were up two and they had two free throws with three seconds to go.
Jeff Malone, I think, had the two free throws.
He knocked down both three.
throws to go up four and we had to hold our breath as Mark O'Guire from half court through one
that went literally in and out at the buzzer. Like it went, it was on target the whole way, went in and out,
would have been a meaningless bucket except for those that understood the outcome and the point
spread. And we got back to even on that day and literally couldn't leave our seats for 20 minutes
afterwards. But that particular friend, and he listens to this every once in a while, so he'll
know I'm talking about him, but it's okay, because we've reconnected over the years. But he got in
such trouble, and it was with my bookie and on my dime, and he split. He left, gone down multiple
thousands of dollars to my bookmaker, never to hear from him for another 15, 20 years. And he's
15, 20 years. I've told you this story, right?
I don't think so.
He left, left school, went back to a northeastern city in which he lived and grew up in,
one of my very best friends in college, and he stuck me with the bill.
Now, I was able to kind of negotiate my way out of a big part of it, because I, you know,
they understood what had happened, and couldn't get in touch with him.
I mean, called his brother, called his aunt, who I knew here, lived in D.C., and I said,
please tell him, it's only money.
Like, I'm more concerned about his health.
What, you know, what's going on?
Our relationship, tell him, we'll figure it out.
Like, we always did, figure it out, didn't hear from him until, let me just see, that was 86, 8586.
so it would have been, yeah, about 20 years later, probably like 2006, phone rings.
I pick it up and it's him.
Wow.
And I said, and I just said, oh, my God.
And I had, you know, reached out to various people that knew that he'd gone back home.
But, you know, I never, seriously.
I mean, these are some of the, you know, these are some of the, the stories from people who were involved in betting back in that era where it was all on credit.
You know, now at least these boys aren't betting on credit, you know, which is really a danger, clearly.
I mean, there was no online betting where you put on, you know, where you paid crypto or credit cards.
all right so yeah i picked up the phone and he said this is and i'm like oh my god and he i mean he was
very emotional i was very emotional and i told him i said it was never i you know i was never
ever anything other than concerned about you we spent like two hours on the phone talking about all
these things but the one thing that never happened in that call was him saying i'm sending you a
check. Never. Never, never sent me anything. And like over the next three or four years,
like we would text back and forth during games and stuff. And now I've lost touch with him again.
It's been probably 10 years since I've spoken to him. And I never said anything like, hey,
you know, you owe me five grand, you know? Like, by the way, it wouldn't have been that
because I was able to haggle it into like, you know, 50% of it. By the way, that's a lot. That's a lot.
of money for 20-year-olds in college, you know, to be down.
Back then. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Back then. Yeah, for sure. And so that, like, I've shared some of
these stories with my boys, like this is what it can lead to. Like, he was, you know, he had a
mental breakdown. And he ended up going back to school, which was great, not at Maryland,
somewhere else. But, you know, and I've also told you the story about my buddy and me being down to a
book in Philly, Mob,
straight mob, and
being offered the opportunity
to drive a car to St. Louis, Missouri.
Yes. To clear the debt
that we had.
Yeah. Yeah. And I told my
buddy Mick, I'm like, no, I don't think
we should do that. He's like, what do you mean? It's
easy. We'll drive to St. Louis. We'll drop the car
off and we don't know him anything.
I'm like, if we drive that
car, we're, we're
done. We're part of the whole
gang. We're part of the mob.
I'm like, and what do you think's in the trunk of that car?
Like, come on, man.
Let's come up with the money.
Let's pay it and let's get the hell out of here.
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah.
I mean, you know that.
What do you think would have been in the back in the trunk of that car that we were driving to drop off in St. Louis?
Well, it wouldn't be a body.
No.
Drugs, guns, something like that, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, something like that.
Right.
and my good friend who is still my dear friend
wanted to do it and I talked him out of it
cooler heads or a cooler head prevailed in that situation
gambling kids it's not great actually
that's why during those early years of
you know uncle Ted out there
talking about his big casino and sports book
well sports book and talking about how
you know if you're really smart
You can turn this into a job.
I'm like, Jesus, God, you're a grown man with life experience.
You can't tell people that unless you're just truly naive.
And there are people that are naive.
There are people that think this is a harmless activity.
It's not harmless.
And here I am about to give up another smell test pick.
The hypocrisy.
And tell you about my bookie, which is, by the way, if you're going to bet, which you
shouldn't, but if you're going to bet, the Kevin Sheehan showed,
dot com slash my bookie promo code DC reload. Go ahead.
Speaking of A. Rothstein, I don't know what the status of that little sports book that he
had, he let them put up there by the arena. But you know the one at the Nationals Park is closed.
Oh, it is?
Yes. And the one at Audi Field is closed as well.
Whatever happened to the one that they were going to put in FedEx, Landover?
It's there, I think. I think it's there.
Fanatics, I think, or something like that.
Is it fanatics that runs it?
I think so. I think it's there.
But every time I've ever been to that one at the Capitol One arena, it looks like a Greyhound bus stop.
What was the green? It was like the Green Turtle first, and then they turned it into the sports court.
Yes. Yeah.
Yeah, the Green Turtle was usually packed when I was there.
Look, I have some theories as to why maybe it didn't work out or maybe why.
Well, I mean, part of it is mobile sports betting is so much more popular.
Of course.
Of course.
That's actually going to a sports book.
It's not the Vegas experience, no, how they claim.
No, it is not.
No, there's only really one Vegas experience.
Yes.
Although Cooley was in town recently.
It was opening weekend when they played the Giants.
He had to go up and do something.
They paid him to do a, you know, signings,
jerseys, helmets, signings, whatever it was.
He told me it was a long day up in Charlestown at the sports book up there.
And he said that, and I've been there.
You know, when it opened, I went up there.
But he said it's legit.
Like, it's a really legit casino.
It's a great sports book.
The crowd is not, you know, sketchy like.
He said it's an excellent, you know, day for people.
I would have spent it up there.
I've been up there in the sports book, and I've been to the track.
Yeah.
They have there, too.
They do a good job at the horse track as well.
Right.
So, no, that's a good sports operation there at Charlestown.
Yeah.
I wonder who runs their sports book?
It was Barstool
It was
Yes
It looks like it's ESPN bet now
Okay
Last time I was there was barstool
Okay
Last piece of just
This was not the intended conversation
But
You know
And I've said this many times
When I've promoted my bookie
Look most of you are very responsible betters hopefully
if there's such a thing, and I think there is such a thing.
It's entertaining.
It's nice to have a little bit of action on the game.
But you've got to be able to afford it.
But being able to afford it means be careful about some of these spots where they charge you way too much.
And it's because the marketing costs, the acquisition costs and what has been, you know, now a five, six year land grab for customers.
That's why my bookie is a place that I recommend so highly is that it's old school, traditional.
They're charging you minus 110 on a straight bet loss, you know, nine times out of 10, sometimes even less than that.
You're not getting dinged for, you know, a straight bet loss at minus 125.
I mean, it's ridiculous.
That stuff adds up.
You don't want to be, you don't want to be a mark here.
If you're going to do this, do it smartly.
And doing it smartly means having more than one plus.
so you get the best point spread, the best total, the best price.
I mean, if you're doing this, do it where you give yourself the best chance of, you know,
losing the least amount, which is really the way I've always kind of, as I've, after going
through the hard knocks, you know, gambling school, it was like, can I do a whole football season
and not lose a lot? Because that's really all I care about. It's like the price of, of
entertainment. And look, as you know, the smell test has produced many more winning seasons than
losing seasons, but you got to be so disciplined because I know most of you are like, yeah,
thanks for all these winners, but I also turned, you know, half of them into three team teasers
and, you know, another half into three, four team parlays and ended up, you know, losing money
on the day. Straight bet. Same amount. Then, you know, 52 and a half, 53 percent you end up
winning money. I'm at 61% right now. And my play tonight, my smell test pick tonight,
the Giants plus seven and a half at home against the Eagles. I actually like the under two,
but I'm not giving that out officially. But the Giants plus seven and a half are a major
anti-public play. There's sharp money on New York. Look, the Eagles right now, you know,
most of you would say, well, she and the recent and
that you always talk about is Philadelphia losing.
Yes, but there's this belief that Philadelphia can bounce back against the Giants.
And most people look, oh, they only have to win by more than a touchdown.
Thursday night games are always difficult, division games.
The biggest problem with the Giants, they lost Slaten on Sunday,
and they lost Malik neighbors two weeks ago.
But they have a pass rush, man, and the Giants are hurting along the offensive line.
And the Giants haven't been able to run the football.
either. So I could definitely see tonight, you know, 20 to 14, you know, 17 to 10, 17, 13,
something like that tonight. I did have the under last night in the Yankees Blue Jays game. It was
eight and a half. And I just figured with all the runs that have been scored in that series,
that they probably not score as many in game four. And I won that.
I didn't give out baseball place, but I love betting the baseball playoffs.
The baseball playoffs have been great.
Giants plus seven and a half is the smell test pick.
We'll get to the baseball.
We'll get to some Kroski Merit update and a lot more after these words from a few of our sponsors.

where is it? From Dex M. I don't think that that's Dexter Manley. Uh, from, um, from Dexter Manley. Uh, from
Dexham.
Suter is so good.
Kevin, reckless at the end of the half, yet you thought it was okay that Quinn attack.
What Dexum is writing about is, yes, Steve Souter, great.
Film breakdown yesterday.
He had Jaden Daniels as his highest graded player.
By the way, PFF also had Jaden Daniels as the highest graded player in the game.
thought he was absolutely sensational after the early rust, went through everything. He was great.
Also thought that Kroski Merritt was good, but said that there was a lot of running room for him.
Like he was untouched at times, the offensive line he absolutely loves.
But what he's referring to is Steve and I talked about the end of the first half, Tommy.
Remember when they were backed up deep in their own territory? They ended up punting,
and there was the roughing the punter on the punt return that got returned for a touchdown.
Well, prior to that punt, they had a minute 35 left one time out, 10 to 7 game from their own 7-yard line.
They throw incomplete.
Then Jaden gets sacked back at the 2-yard line.
And on 3rd and 15 from their own 2-yard line, they dropped Jaden back again.
He was very lucky to get the pass off.
It was almost stripped by Bud Dupre.
on the outside. That could have been a fumble in the end zone touchdown safety something.
And then Steve pointed out yesterday that the referees missed a blatant hold on Andrew Wiley
in the end zone should have been a safety. And sure enough, on the all 22, you can see it
as clear as it happened. He grabs Derwin James's jersey and it just didn't get called. I think
sometimes on those holdings in the end zone, it usually tackles and edge rushes,
that are more exposed.
This is more on the inside, but they got away with one.
And I did say, after the game, I'm like, look, I like Quinn being aggressive, but just
so you know, Dex, I did suggest that this was a debatable situation in terms of the way
they attacked it, especially, especially after the sack, because you're dropping your
quarterback back on 3rd and 15 into his own end zone with 50 seconds to go one time out
left, like the chances of getting, the chances are greater of something negative happening in that
spot than positive.
Although, you can make the case that with number five at quarterback, the chances were at least
equal that something good can happen.
He's proven it over and over again.
Isn't that the factor at play?
Of course.
Isn't that what the coaches think that, well, you know, Jaden can make something happen?
he's worth the risk.
I pointed out on the third and 16, you know, after the Kwan Martin fumble when he connected
with Jalen Lane, do you know how many teams consider third and 16 to be a no-chance play
and they run a draw or they run a screen to try to get more yards for better punting position?
This team rarely does that.
Going back to last year, second and longs and third and longs, they're throwing it to the
sticks or beyond the sticks.
and they also know that if it's not there, he could create something and pick it up with his legs.
Last year, the Philadelphia game where they came back, they had the third and forever,
and he had like the 30-yard run as a scrambler.
But what Dex M is referring to is on radio this morning, I referred to, after my conversation with Steve yesterday,
I'm like, the bottom line is I do like Quinn's aggressive mindset with Jaden Daniels,
a quarterback at the end of halves, trying to steal possessions with timeouts on defense, trying to
score every time you have it no matter where you are. But on third and 15 from your own two-yard
line, continuing to drop them back in that situation, that actually, and I referred to it,
I said, that's actually reckless. That's not, I don't think, you know, good probability
decision-making. Now, you can say,
Well, you know, if we run it there and then the chargers are going to call time out and we're going to punt it to them and they're going to get another three maybe before a half.
Okay. But third and 15, what could have happened and actually what should have happened is Andrew Wiley should have gotten called for holding in the end zone, safety 12 to 7.
And then you're punting it anyway and they've got a chance to make it 15 to 7 at halftime with a field goal and a field goal kicker that's got ridiculous range.
I think the idea is that you were getting the ball to start the third quarter.
You know, you weren't going to, you weren't in a position where if you didn't score,
the next time you saw it, you were going to be down two scores.
Right.
And so that played into it, especially before third and 15 at their own two-yard line.
And they got away with one.
By the way, that happens all the time.
Teams get away with holding in the end zone.
They get away with things where, you know, a guy just barely misses a strip sack.
But they had no chance really on that play.
There was nothing available for him, and he threw incomplete,
and the Chargers, you know, rough the punter.
I mean, and then they went forward again from their own 17,
and he threw a 50-yard bomb.
Of course, like the answer back to somebody who uses a word like reckless,
like I did, is, yeah, but did you see that he completed a 50-yard bomb on the next play?
Yeah, I did see that.
Well, we thought he could do it on 3rd and 15 from their own,
from their own two-yard line.
I think it's different.
It's the Jane Daniels-Elexer.
I'm sorry?
It's the Jane Daniels-Elexer.
Elexer?
Is it Elexer or Elexer?
Yeah.
Elexer.
Yeah.
That's what it is.
It is that.
Yeah.
He's really good.
He's really good.
But third and 15, your own two-yard line, your quarterback just got sacked.
Man, that's, it's interesting.
because they weren't aggressive against Atlanta, you know, with Marioada.
Right.
But every situation is different.
That one, they, by the way, I'm also not saying that if they'd called the holding or if he had been strip sacked that they would have lost the game.
I mean, they would have gone into halftime down 15 to 7 or maybe it's 17 to 10 because they get the ball back after a kickoff if they scored touchdown and they still had a whole half to play.
and Jaden was heating up
and the defense was owning the line of scrimmage.
So they certainly could have come back from that.
This from Dan Jay, Sheehan, who does Cosme replace?
That's a good question.
So Sam Cosmy, I think there's a chance he could be back this week,
but based on something...
Practicing, right?
He's practicing.
He's practicing.
I don't think he will be back this week.
And the reason I say that is they're not desperate right now for Cosme to come back prematurely, to rush him back.
And the reason for that is what Souter pointed out yesterday.
He thinks Chris Paul has been the best lineman since he started to grade these films.
You know, the first one he did was the Green Bay game.
And he said, I just can't see how they're going to let Brandon Coleman or Allegretti play another game.
They were just horrible.
The next game both got benched.
And Chris Paul came in and you said,
Paul's been phenomenal.
And I think the answer to your question is,
when it does happen, it's Wiley.
He's going to replace Wiley.
First of all, right guard was Sam Cosmy's position.
That's where Wiley's playing.
And I don't see Wiley then going over and replacing
Chris Paul at left guard with the way he's played.
You know, the offensive line has played pretty well here, you know, the last few weeks.
They are, they're very high up next-gen stats, pass-block win rate, and very high up in run-block win rate.
In fact, I'm going to tell you exactly what those numbers are right now, because I looked at these the other day.
Pass-block win rate, Washington is sixth in the league.
and run block win rate, they're 16th in the league.
Okay, 16th in run block win rate, sixth in pass block.
I thought they'd be a little higher on the run block.
Yeah, they're the number one rush offense in the NFL.
Yeah.
I think Sunday's game will elevate them a little bit
because they did a great job overall with the offensive line.
So, by the way, today's practice.
because we're just getting the info here.
So apparently no Terry McCorn, although he was out there stretching with the team,
but he didn't have a jersey on.
So they believe that he was going to be missing practice again today.
But he was there.
He was out there and doing certain things.
Noah Brown was back yesterday.
And today, Debo was not at practice.
Remember last week with the heel injury, he missed two practices and then participated full on Friday out in L.A. before the game, before the L.A. game when they practiced out there. But we'll see what happens.
Meantime, just to give you a heads up, Chicago's offensive line is pretty good. If you look at the Bears numbers, Chicago is fourth in pass block win rate, first in run block win rate.
But they have an injury along their offensive line.
Darnell Wright, the kid who Washington really wanted in the 23 draft,
who got picked before them at 10 overall, he actually may be out.
We'll follow that.
But imagine, you know, a fourth game in their first six where the team's
offensive line has a major injury, you know, for the game.
And that possibility exists on Monday night with Darnell.
right being hurt in their last game.
But yeah, Chicago's run block win rate, pass block win rate exceptional.
They're very good everywhere except for the quarterback who's actually played better here
recently.
This game, Tommy, is very much like the Atlanta game in that they're playing a team that
has a pretty damn good roster, got talent in a lot of spots, offensive,
They've got a good offensive line, talented offensive line.
We'll see if Darnell right plays.
They've got good skill position players.
They have it on defense in spots too.
But it's the quarterback.
It was Michael Pennix Jr.
In the Atlanta game, he ended up playing really well, and it's going to be Caleb Williams.
How is he coming along?
The last two games much better than the first two.
They're coming off a buy week.
So this could be an interesting game.
And I'll throw this in here because I just saw this before we started to record.
I don't know if you've seen this, but there's a potential Nor Easter for, you know, the
Mid-Atlantic on Saturday night, Sunday through Monday, where we're talking about inches of rain.
So weather and wind could be a factor for the game Monday night.
Now, it could be out of here.
The storm could be out of here before the game.
And it's also possible that the storm stays.
east and misses us all together.
But the weather people
are talking about
this major nor'easter.
Capital Weather
gang just put out
Coastal Storm Update.
Some models wallop
DC with two to three inches of rain,
wind gusts of 35 to
45 miles per hour.
Other models suggest more of a glancing
blow.
The impacts would be mostly
they write Saturday night through Sunday,
but in a previous post they said it could stick around through Tuesday.
So we'll see if it looks like we'll be on the outstretches and, you know,
a few hours removed from the end of the storm, but weather could be a factor.
By the way, is the game a sellout?
I don't know.
Tim from Indianapolis, who emails the show a lot and tweets a lot.
Tim, I'm just going to respond.
You would suggest it to me that they.
announced sellouts for the entire season. I could not, A, find that anywhere. B, I reached out
to them and they told me they don't believe that's true. They were going to get back to me.
In fact, they weren't sure that Monday night's game was a sellout yet. I think it will be by the
time we get there, and maybe it is already. But I looked to- I think it will be.
Yeah, Tim, I looked to follow up on what you had sent me, and I can't find confirmation of the team
putting out a press release announcing that they've sold out games the rest of the season.
I could not find that.
I think they will sell out games.
You know, I just don't know if it's going to happen like if it's already happened.
You might be right, though.
I'd be surprised if they don't sell out Monday night.
Me too.
Me too.
This is going to be a, you know, it says there are two games Monday night this week.
Buffalo plays Atlanta.
That game starts at 7.15.
and then it's Washington and Chicago at 815.
I like Atlanta too.
I think the Falcons have a chance to win that game.
But yeah, like an emailer from the other day mentioned,
they got a lot of high-profile games the rest of the way.
You're not going to do your prediction today for Monday night
because Tommy's schedule next week for the show is a bit different.
He's going to join the show on Monday.
So he'll do Monday show, so we'll have both of our predictions and previews of the Bears Monday night game on Monday show.
You want to talk some baseball?
Yeah, talk some baseball.
I also have a bill update when we come back after these words from a few of our sponsors.
So guys, if you're like me and you've basically been buying and wearing the same type of underwear for years, in my case, boxer briefs, same.
brand, same type for a long time. Well, not anymore for me. I want to tell you about skims for men,
something I've discovered recently, the softest underwear I've ever worn. I got a few pairs of
the five-inch boxer briefs so comfortable, no matter what you're doing, from sitting in a chair
in your office to working out, they are so comfortable. They don't bunch up. They were made to recover
from every stretch.
The fabric is cool to the touch,
and it just seems to mold to your body
and never loses its shape.
This is so different from the synthetic feeling
I used to get from what I used to wear.
Skims is made with an undeniable soft midweight cotton
that allows you to breathe.
Skims for men comes in plenty of colors,
plenty of sizes.
Shop skims men's at skims.com.
Let them know I sent you.
After you place your order, select podcast in the survey, and select my show in the drop-down menu that follows.
All right, Tommy, tell us about Shelley's.
Well, if it's Thursday, I'm giving you Shelley's weekly specials on their food menu.
You can find out more about all their menus at shelley's backroom.com.
Shelly's located at 1331 F Street, Northwest, in the district.
If you go online, you can find their food menu, their cigar menu, and their drink menu, and their weekly specials for this week.
You know, and maybe all that mob talk from Kevin, you know, got them all due stuff because one of their specials this week is fried calamari.
Well, that's stereotyping.
Not every mob member is Italian.
Oh, really?
You want to kill me in on your experience with the mob?
Because I could tell you about mine if you want.
All right, go ahead.
Okay.
Deep-fried golden-brown calamari with mariner sauce.
Mm-hmm.
And if that's not good enough, we're your chicken parm, chicken parm sandwich.
Do you like fried calamari?
No.
Oh, my God.
Seriously?
No.
Come on.
God, there's just...
Not if you put a knife to my neck.
Oh, fried calamari is so good.
It's also so fried.
But...
It's so...
I love me some chicken
Pommergon-on sandwich.
I know you do.
Chicken tenders with marinar,
provolone, and parmesan on a butter-toasted
Kaiser roll, served with fries and a kosher-dil pickle.
Now, you can count me in for that, shelley.
I don't eat pickles.
I don't eat pickles.
I don't eat pickles.
Oh, I wanted you to say that you loved pickles.
No, no, you're much easier
to find the things I like than the things I don't like.
Right.
And pickles certainly isn't one of them.
You can find out more at shelley's backroom.com.
You know, they've got a Cubano sandwich.
I mean, they got a Cuban, you know, roasted pork, ham, Swiss.
But that sandwich always, you know, includes pickles.
I love that sandwich, but whenever I get that sandwich, I have to say no pickles,
to which, you know, occasionally you'll get an eye roll back.
Not that you care about being eye-rolled.
And I don't either, although you, these days,
You may just kind of cower and walk away and not address the eye roll like you did out and, you know, Landover.
People are still upset that you folded like a cheap suit.
I don't know why you did that.
But you know what?
The people who count don't care.
The owners, the ones who said, no smoking for you, Tom.
Yeah.
All right.
yesterday, Bill Kroski Merritt won his second FedEx
Aaron Ground Award.
Baker Mayfield was the air winner.
Kroski Merritt was the ground winner.
And I said on the show yesterday,
hey, that's great, but did they miss Rico Dowdell
rushing for 206 yards on Sunday?
23 carries, 206 yards, 9 yards a carry.
Like, I thought Krosky Merit was great,
but he didn't rush for 206 yards.
Well, many of you reached out to me to tell me that this is a fan vote.
So I appreciate that.
I kind of criticized whomever was involved from FedEx's standpoint for missing Rico Dowdell's performance,
but it was a fan vote.
But that tells you, by the way, you know, Washington Chargers,
the most watched game on Sunday, 20 plus million viewers,
and let's face it, fans were not paying attention to the Panthers and the Dolphins.
but they missed the number one rush performance of the season so far.
All right, let's talk some baseball.
Can we start with Phillies Dodgers?
Sure.
Did you watch everything yesterday and last night?
Well, you see, you know, the shelter lifestyle that you think I lead?
Yeah.
I wasn't here last night to watch the game.
I went out last night.
I went to a Baltimore Jazz Club called the Keystone Corner.
I saw this unbelievable jazz, sweetest jazz musician.
This woman is just, I'm telling you got to Google this woman and look at her videos.
Her name is Gun Hilled Carling.
And she has wanted a greatest performer.
Oh, here she is.
She's one of the greatest performers you'll ever see.
I mean, she played the cornet, the trumpet, the trombone, the recorder, the flute, she juggled, she tapped dance.
At one point, she had three different horns that she was playing at the same time.
It was just hilarious.
It was great.
Great music, great time.
So, no, I did not watch the theater.
After pulling up the images in the pictures of Gun Hild-Carling, I think you made the right
decision.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
She is, she's worth a look.
Yeah.
She's worth a visit if you ever get a chance to see her before.
So she's blowing horns and she's also juggling.
Well, she wasn't juggling at the same time she was blowing.
That would have been a trick.
Yeah.
No, she wasn't doing that.
Let me get crazy.
Right.
But that's where I was.
So, I mean, I've read about the baseball.
I followed the baseball, particularly the Phillies Dodgers.
And I have the gist of it that Kyle Schwerber basically took the game over.
Oh, Tommy.
You've seen the highlight of the first home run, right?
I see it.
It's 455 feet.
It's unbelievable.
He demolished the baseball.
Yeah.
They lost sight of it.
They couldn't find it.
You know?
Yeah, in fact, there was discussion with Brian Anderson and, oh, my God,
forget who he's doing the game with.
I actually really like Brian Anderson as a play-by-play guy, and everything he does, he does so well.
But they basically later in the game said that there's a belief that it went much further than
455 feet, but they essentially lost it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then he wasn't done.
No.
No.
He still had another home run that hit.
And it shows how any of those three, even Trey Turner, they could take a little.
over a game.
Yeah.
You know, Turner, Harper, Swarber,
they could all take over a game,
because Turner can do,
Turner can hit home runs.
He can dominate on the base pads.
He can do more than just power.
Harper, we know,
can take over a game,
and Schwerper is just a monster
when he's on.
And Clayton Kirchall was the other story as well.
I want to save that for a moment.
So, first of all, you know, Turner, Schwerber, Harper, I mean, it's just like when you watch some of these games, it's like, yep, they played here, yep, he played here.
You know, Trey Turner and Bryce Harper now are 32 years old. I mean, time flies.
But their big three had done nothing in the first two games. In fact, Schwerber was 0 for 8, and Schwerber was like O for his last 22 at bats going back to the end of the regular season.
and then he just destroyed this pitch from Yamamoto,
and it was like it opened up the floodgates for all of them.
Turner was three for five,
Schwerber was two for four,
Harper was two for four with a walk,
and it was just,
you know,
they're capable of that.
So that was,
I was really rooting for,
I want to see a long series here.
Otani, by the way,
in this series,
now he hit one that I was convinced was gone,
two deep shots,
actually.
he is now in the postseason four for 23, but in this series, one for 14.
One for 14 in this series.
Aaron Nola pitched great for them to start.
They were looking for two innings from Aaron Nola.
Two innings out of them.
And he gave him two innings.
And then Ranger Suarez was outstanding.
But, oh my God, poor Clayton Kershaw.
So it's a 3-1 game.
It actually felt like it should have been more.
left a lot of runners on base in the fifth inning, sixth inning.
We get to the eighth inning.
Kershawp came out for the seventh in relief.
By the way, the last time he was a relief pitcher in the postseason was 2019 game five against
the nationals.
When he got out of the seventh and then gave up back-to-back home runs in a three-to-one
game to Rendon and Soto, and there's that shot of him by himself, isolated in the dugout,
looking absolutely despondent. Actually, it was sad.
And so he's pitched well this year. Maybe in a long series, he could get a start, I guess,
rather than if they were forced to have a bullpen start.
But he came in last night in relief in the seventh inning, got out of the seventh inning.
Luckily, to be honest with you, he didn't pitch well.
He barely escaped the seventh. And in the eighth inning, Tommy, oh my God.
It was a parade through the batting order in the eighth inning.
And Dave Roberts didn't take him out because he didn't want to blow any of the rest of his bullpen.
And so Kershaw stayed out there for a home run, a walk, then a fielding error, which landed, the bases loaded,
then a single, another home run, a double, and another single before he finally left the game.
and it went from three to one to eight to one.
Kershaw in two innings last night.
It was hard to watch, hard to watch.
The announcers were saying the same thing.
Six hits, five runs, four of them earned, three walks, no strikeouts,
two home runs given up in 48 pitches over two innings.
I mean...
You know, he does not have a good postseason record.
I know.
That's been the knock, obviously.
Yeah.
But yeah, it was painful to see that.
I mean, it could have been any other pitcher, but it was him, and he's out there,
and people are like, get him out of there.
But Roberts did come in with Trinnan in the ninth in an eight to one game.
And Blake Trinan's actually struggled in the postseason.
He gave up a bunch of runs.
I mean, the game we talked about the other night, game two,
when Philly decided to try to sack Bunt, and it was a big mistake.
in the bottom of the ninth when they had a chance to win the game.
Trinin is the one that gave up the first three runs of that inning for the first two.
Another former nat.
Yeah, another former nat.
So, yeah, you get game four tonight in Dodger Stadium.
I think the Phillies win tonight, and I think it'll go back to a game five,
and who the hell knows what happens.
Meantime, Detroit forced to game five, and they get that guy scubel to pitch game five.
tomorrow night. And people, look, you know more about him than I do. I watched him pitch, you know,
the one playoff game against the Indians, and he was outstanding. But he had, you know,
lost a couple of times to the Indians down the stretch when they blew the division. But is he right
now the best starter in the Biggs? I think so. He goes in game five on the road in Seattle.
Yeah. That should be fun to watch.
Yeah. I like Seattle and that.
You do?
Yeah.
Against Scoobel, huh?
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah, I'm just looking to see where he finished in the regular season.
You know, it's interesting.
The American League Championship Series could be Seattle versus Toronto,
the two teams that came in together as an expansion team.
I know.
In 1977.
Right.
So Skeens and Scoobel ended up with the two teams.
two best ERAs in the league.
Is Skeen's going to win the Sion?
I think so.
So is Scoobel close?
In the American League.
Yeah.
Oh, right. What am I talking about?
Yeah.
So Scobel will win it in the American League.
Skeens will win it in the National League.
I think so.
And everyone remember, these things are voted on for the regular season.
Right.
postseason has nothing to do with
they've already been voted on
right
okay
um cubs won to extend
that series and of course we can finish
with the Yankees being eliminated
it certainly wasn't Aaron Judge's fault
that's for sure
he was great
no no it wasn't Toronto though
Toronto's got a good lineup
you know and
yeah and uh
and they've had the Yankees number this year
you know and the thing with the yankees and i said this to a yankee fan and it's it's it's the absolute truth
the only day a yankee fan is happy is the day they win the world series every other day
yeah it's a miserable existence wow did you see the um blue jays manager in the locker room
you know uh talking about his team and he said and he he ended it with start spreading the news
It was a great line as they were, you know, as champagne was flying through the air.
All right, so, you know, Toronto against either Seattle or Detroit, you like Seattle,
and the National League series are still alive.
The Cubs and the Phillies have to win to push them to game five.
You know, game five's win or go home games in any sport in a series are exciting.
It'd be nice to get a couple of those.
We got one tomorrow night, maybe a couple.
I guess those games, the National League games,
if they go to five, would probably be Saturday, I'm assuming.
Yes, Saturday.
So there's one Friday night game, Seattle, Detroit, two games tonight,
the two National League games tonight.
All right, let's wrap this up.
Did we accomplish anything today, do you think, other than just?
We gave people excellent entertainment for their dollars.
for their dollar.
It's free.
You know that to listen to this show.
I do know that.
There are people that charge for their podcasts, you know.
A lot of people do that.
But not us.
We're generous.
All right.
Good job.
I'll talk to you Monday.
Monday we'll have a total preview and pick Washington, Chicago, and be able to look back at the weekend that was.
Back tomorrow, Jay Gruden will be on this show and I'll have all my
smell test picks.
