Starting point is 00:00:02 You don't want it. You don't need it. But you're going to get it anyway. The Kevin Sheehan Show. He is Kevin. Tommy's here. I am here. The show's presenting sponsor, as always,
Starting point is 00:00:15 Window Nation. 86690 Nation, windownation.com. If you need to do Windows, Tommy, I did the mock schedule on yesterday's show. I probably should have held it for today because I was thinking about this this morning. I'm pretty sure that when I've done the mock schedule on the podcast in recent years, I've done it with you.
Starting point is 00:00:40 I didn't do it with you this year. And I, let me just tell you, I had like some urgency yesterday to get it out because there were some internet rumors that some big games for the schedule were going to start to drop, you know, or leak. And that typically happens, you know, a week in advance. advance, and I just wanted to get it out so that I'm not, you know, that I don't go into it with like one or two right already. Right.
Starting point is 00:01:10 So did you miss me not doing it with you? Well, you know what? It's a little bit surprising because I thought I was a little bit more special to you. Yeah. You know, and I'll tell you why I thought that, and I'll tell you the proof of that, because this morning I was in a lawyer's office this morning. Okay. In a lawyer's office?
Starting point is 00:01:32 Yes, we were going over documents for, you know, my will and things like that. Uh-oh. And included an advanced medical directive. And they said, you know, who do you want to decide to pull the plug? And I said, you. I told them you. I said, Kevin Shee and my business partner. You know?
Starting point is 00:01:58 Yeah. So I put you down for that. that we had some kind of special here, but it sounds like I jumped the gun. I know you really would never even think of me in that setting, but I'm going to tell you right now, if I had that responsibility, I'd try to keep you alive until you were gone. I don't care what the directive said. If he's breathing and there's a chance, I'm hanging in there with you. Well, that's not the guy.
Starting point is 00:02:27 That's not who I want. Actually, my standard is very simple. If I can't use the remote control anymore, then you can just shut me off. All right. Well, I hope you didn't do that because there's some sense of imminent doom. No. Okay. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Just tidying things up, getting things organized. Just some housekeeping. Okay. And, you know, I sent the documents to your house so you can take a look at them. I'll look at them. And make sure they're all. They're okay. I'll read them, and do I need to get them notarized if I sign?
Starting point is 00:03:05 No. No, you can just go ahead and sign. Because I learned last week that there's a notary at the UPS office right around the corner from my office, because I had to do some of that for the, you know, the officiant of the wedding responsibilities that I had over the weekend. What's the take to become a notary public? I used to want to become one. just so I could say to people, oh, I'm a notary public. Well, it's, I guess, I don't know what it takes to be one,
Starting point is 00:03:35 but the guy that was working behind the desk at UPS notarized my signature, witnessed it and notarized it. So. Well, you've got to go to school, I guess. I don't think you need to go to school to be a notary. Well, then, what is it could, what could possibly make you qualify? Maybe it's a trade school kind of a thing. Maybe it's a trade school.
Starting point is 00:03:58 I mean, roofing, plumbing, and notaries. It seems like a pretty good business because the cost is pretty low. There's like a little stamp thing, and it's you with your eyes witnessing the signature. Yeah, basically, it's a level of trust. Yeah. Basically, you know, this person is so trustworthy that his seal on my document makes it valid. You could be a notary. The thing is that there would be people that would walk into your store to get things notarized,
Starting point is 00:04:39 and you might block them or mute them. So, yeah, you'd turn down business. Yes. No matter for various people. You have a list. Not everybody should be notarized. Right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:55 Well. So how is the schedule? We need a notary for this show. today. We need it recorded and registered today by somebody official because the mock schedule look, this makes me happy. It also
Starting point is 00:05:08 surprises me that every year in the wake of the mock schedule show there is a major increase in correspondence with me, both on X on Twitter and via email. I think
Starting point is 00:05:25 people really too love this and I I'm sometimes surprised by that. I'm going to read a few that I pulled off, including one, which I typically will get one or two of these, that always makes me laugh. But this from Nick A, Nick A writes, Is it okay if I plan my travel around your mock schedule?
Starting point is 00:05:48 I get that every year. One of my favorite moments, Kevin, every year, I can't believe how much drama there is as you do it game by game. from Ari, Ari writes, Kevin, I've been a listener since you were on with Rigo. I thought your mock schedule back then was quirky and kind of silly, but here we are years later, and everybody's doing one. You were the original, and all of these Johnny come lately, mock schedulers should bow to the goat. Everybody does one now.
Starting point is 00:06:25 It's true. I know. I mean, as far as I, you were the first one I ever saw do one. I'm sure I'm not the first person to ever do one, but maybe the first person to do one on a radio show or do one via a public dissemination. I, I, what's funny about that is that obviously I never thought people would start to do this. And they didn't do it because I was doing it, I'm sure. I remember that somebody sent me, it was probably 10, 11, 12 years ago. They sent me a contest that the Rams were doing.
Starting point is 00:07:04 In fact, I think they were still in St. Louis. And they were doing a contest where they wanted you to guess the schedule. And I'm like, that's kind of a mock schedule here. Should I patent this thing? Should I try to get some protection on this thing? And then over the years, it's just proliferated. into, you know, now, you know, people tell me all the time that people even in our market that are on radio or doing mock schedules and not necessarily, you know, mentioning where they got the idea. This from Mark H. Mark H writes, my favorite day of the year. I know it's just for fun, but I really appreciate how much work you put into it. It always makes sense to me.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Thank you for that, Mark. I appreciate that. Just think that, you know, all these years, I could have been notarizing your mock statement. You could have been notarizing. I wonder if that would have more credibility. Yes. Yes. Notarizing it, registering it somehow with, you know, a state or county government office, I think would have perhaps kept it protected.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Maybe I could have gone after people with your notarized signature. Well, this is why the D.C. Podcasts Sports Podcast Association exists for things like this. This should be on file in their offices. It should be. They should take up the fight. They should shut down all other mock schedulers. Pick up for your members. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:45 And then, of course, I get something like this. This from Zach. Zach writes, I really don't understand why you would continue to do something that makes you look so bad. You never get more than four or five right out of 17 exclamation point. Help me understand.
Starting point is 00:09:04 Yeah, Zach, I don't think I'm going to be able to help you understand. No offense. By the way, a four or... If you can, shall. I mean, basically, it's a very hard thing to do. well he's he doesn't get the bit here but let me just say four or five right that would be all time for me I think the most I've ever gotten right was four and I think that only happened once or twice usually I get like one right like exactly right maybe two and then I'll be within a week or two
Starting point is 00:09:38 of a couple of others being right um yeah it's really got nothing to do with how many I get right Zach. And then I got this from Jack and Bethesda, Tommy. Jack writes, Kevin, I did my own mock of your mock for the third straight year, and I got three right. Most ever for me. Both Giants games and the Minnesota game in November. I'm curious which part of your mock you're most confident in. They're mocking my mocks. They're mock. more impressed with him mocking your mock schedule than him mocking the real schedule. He's more, I've got somebody who's actually done a mock schedule of my mock schedule. That's hilarious. Thank you for that, Jack. That makes me happy. So I got a couple of other people that said, what do you think you're going to get right this year on this schedule? here's what I think I'm going to get right. And it may not be exactly the week, but I think it might be.
Starting point is 00:10:48 I think I'm going to get the buy week correct this year. They have had a late buy week for the last four seasons, very late. And I think they're going to get an early buy week this year. And then if you look at the potential dates for the London game, I guessed October 4th. for their London game. The opponent, by the way, I've got them playing the Colts. And if they play in London on October 4th, the bye week will likely follow that game.
Starting point is 00:11:24 And I am, that's the thing I'm most confident in. I think I'm going to get the London game and the buy week in terms of the dates, either right on or really close. I don't know if the opponent will be right, Indianapolis. That's just a guess. Um, but, uh, I have a feeling the bye week is going to be, uh, correct. Somebody else, uh, wrote me, where is it? Um, they went through, by the way, every single mock, uh, schedule game and made a note on each one.
Starting point is 00:11:58 This isn't going to happen for this reason or this has a good chance of happening, etc. Um, but this person, where is it? Here it is. Uh, they wrote, no chance. There are five. primetime games for a team that was five and 12. And you took a big spot Thanksgiving weekend Sunday night and put them in that spot, zero chance of that happening. Yeah, I didn't give them five primetime games.
Starting point is 00:12:31 I gave them five standalone games because one of those is the London game. So that will be, you know, they're playing in London. a host in London this year. So they're guaranteed at least one standalone national TV game. And I did say when I gave the schedule out yesterday, Tommy, that this is the part where I'm taking a little bit of a gamble that the schedule makers are going to still see Washington with Jaden Daniels as an appealing quarterback as a team that they'll want in some of these stand-alone spots. So I have them a London game. I've got them on
Starting point is 00:13:11 Thursday night week three against the Giants, and every team has to play one of those short week games on Thursday night or on Thanksgiving Day or whatever. And then I have them with two Sunday nighters and a Monday nighter. And also a late
Starting point is 00:13:27 season possibility for Saturday. That's a TBD. That may have been aggressive. That may have been aggressive. We'll find out. So I've got them with five stand-alone nationally televised games. It's not the most. There will be teams with six and maybe even seven,
Starting point is 00:13:47 but I've got them at five, and that's a lot for a team that was five and 12 last year. I acknowledge that. But I just think that they are still with Jaden Daniels, a team that the schedule makers are going to find somewhat attractive. Do you have any questions about my mock? I know you haven't seen it. You're not a big mock schedule.
Starting point is 00:14:07 fan. You like being a part of it more than you like listening to it. Yes. Do you have any questions about it? Okay. What's their September schedule? I've got them opening at Philadelphia on Sunday, September 13th. A late afternoon 425, you know, highlighted game as part of the doubleheader on Fox. I've got him home against Houston in week two. on the road in week three on a Thursday night against the Giants.
Starting point is 00:14:40 That's their September schedule. And then I've got them in London in week four against Indianapolis, against the Colts. Okay. Okay. I'm just kind of curious how they're going to start out. So they're going to start out one and two, maybe. I don't know. I don't know how they're going to start off.
Starting point is 00:15:02 I don't know the schedule either. That didn't stop you. Yeah. Well, of course I don't know the schedule. Please don't plan your travel around a mock schedule. Oh, no, don't. This from Rick, Rick writes, I see them on Thanksgiving Day this year. Jaden Daniels is going to be on a holiday.
Starting point is 00:15:24 Last year, I guessed Christmas Day, and I was right. They played on Christmas Day. I had the opponent wrong at Green Bay. I don't have them on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day this year. Part of that may be wishful thinking. I can't stand when they play on Thanksgiving and Christmas because for many, many years, a lot of us, when they play, we got to work. Now, I don't do the pregame show anymore, but Christmas Day last year, now, the good news, no, the bad news was it wasn't an important game. Because if it had been an important game on Christmas Day, Skins Cowboys, that would have been memorable.
Starting point is 00:16:01 it ended up being almost a nuisance that it was going on on Christmas Day because everybody in my house, my boys wanted to watch it, my wife wasn't thrilled that we were watching football in the middle of the day on Christmas Day, and it was such a meaningless game because their season was already long gone. Yeah, you might be right, Rick. You might be right. They might get Thanksgiving Day this year. I think that, you know, Dallas, Washington in particular always is a big seller on Thanksgiving Day.
Starting point is 00:16:38 I considered Thanksgiving. I did not consider Christmas Day again. And by the ways, there are some leaks about the schedule coming out, not necessarily matchups, but that Christmas Day is probably going to be a triple header this year. It's on a Friday, so it won't be a double header. Netflix will get three games. on Christmas Day. And we've talked about this before,
Starting point is 00:17:03 but there's a pretty good possibility there's going to be a Wednesday night Thanksgiving Eve game. We'll see if that comes to fruition here, but there's a lot of conversation that they're selling a package of games to YouTube and Netflix, and one of them might be Wednesday night
Starting point is 00:17:22 before Thanksgiving Day. A huge party night, Tommy. Oh, yes. I remember those days fondly. Right. My favorite night of the year when I was a young man. It was a big night when you're in your teens and 20s. For sure.
Starting point is 00:17:40 So they don't care. Anything around the holidays usually is a big seller for them. All right. So we can move on from the mock schedule talk. We do have more football coming up in the next segment dealing with the skins. but I did, I know you watched the NBA last night or you watched one of the games last night. You didn't see the second game, but you had, I think, a complaint, a complaint or two about the Knicks win over the 76ers? Well, I mean, Joel M.B. didn't play for the Sixers.
Starting point is 00:18:20 And the Knicks almost found a way to give the game away. I mean, they were so sloppy bringing the ball up. I just don't understand. Like it's the first time they ever had to deal with it. It was a sloppy game. Sloppy game. They were lucky to get away with the win. Well, Philadelphia just went cold in the fourth quarter.
Starting point is 00:18:41 I mean, I think they were 12 of 24 from behind the arc through three quarters and one for 10 in the fourth quarter. And they scored 12 points in the fourth quarter. they had the lead at the end of the third quarter. And I thought actually without Embed, I think the interesting thing about the way they play without Embed, they play much faster. You know, Embedd is a, you know, more of a plotter, and certainly you want to at times run your offense,
Starting point is 00:19:15 your half-court offense, through him, whether it's on the block or at the high post. And without him, you see, they've got a very good back. court. I mean, Tyrese Maxie is a really good player. He was sloppy with the ball last night. And the rookie from Baylor, VJ. Edgecombe can really play, too.
Starting point is 00:19:34 I thought it was a lost opportunity for Philly, even without Embed. To your point, I didn't think New York was smooth. And then O.G. and Obie got hurt at the end of that game. He is, he's crucial for them because he's their best two-way player. He's one of the better two-way players in the league.
Starting point is 00:19:54 And we'll see if I'm sure there's going to be some news this afternoon because I was reading this morning that there's an MRI likely to be to be scheduled for him. That would be a massive blow for them, a big blow if he's lost for any considerable period of time. Actually, you know what? The story just broke as we're sitting here at recording. He's been diagnosed with a right hamstring strain and is being called day to day. day. He'll be listed as questionable for game three tomorrow night in Philadelphia. The nightcap, you said you didn't watch it. I mean, the Spurs absolutely blew out. Yeah, they blew out Minnesota in game two. They had to win that game. They were going to be in big,
Starting point is 00:20:44 big trouble down 2-0. And they won the game. And Wembe Nyama was terrific. I mean, he's just really different. Minnesota, they just missed so many shots. It was one of those games. I mean, this is what this series is. I mean, it's like the Denver series, except they're getting pushback from San Antonio because San Antonio can guard as well.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Denver's not a good defensive team, but it's like so hard to score in the half court because of the defense. But they got out in transition. Minnesota had 20. turnovers in the game. And San Antonio blew him out. They had, I think it was 31 fast break points in the game.
Starting point is 00:21:30 And they won by 38 points to even up that series. Wembe Nyame did not have 12 block shots, but he had 19 points and 15 rebounds. You know, Tommy, there were a couple of possessions in the first quarter. He's matched up against Julius Rangelo. Randall. And Randall's trying to use every ounce of, you know, body and arms and strength that he has to keep Wembenyama from advancing the basketball close enough to the hoop where he can just reach out at seven foot five or nearly seven foot five with like a 200-inch wingspan and just lay it in. And you got to almost keep him at the free throw line. Because once he gets in,
Starting point is 00:22:20 the paint below the free throw line, he can just extend with his arms over the defender and lay it in. It's just unbelievable the reach he has. And because he's so tall, it's not like you can block it, you know, and he had two of those in the first quarter when they were struggling to score. They gave him the ball, and he just got barely below the free throw line inside the paint on one side and just reached out and laid it in. He's different. And we haven't seen anybody like him. Part of the reason he's different is because he's smooth. He's not awkward.
Starting point is 00:23:02 Yes, he is. For seven foot four and a half, he's smooth. But he's still, because there is a little bit of, you know, he's still young and he's still very thin. And there is, you know, some baby giraffe legs at times. that you get with him. I know. But no, he is, I mean, and he can really shoot it. You know, he was 0 for 8 in the first game.
Starting point is 00:23:28 He made two of them last night during their blowout stretch in the second quarter when they opened it up. I still think that this has a chance to be a long series that Minnesota can win. And I think I said this with you on Tuesday. If I didn't, I just don't see anybody beating Oklahoma City four out of seven. I think it's a foregone conclusion that, you know, barring major injuries and they have one player out right now, a key player out right now. But I just think that they are really, really good and special. And two in a row, we have not had a repeat champion for a long time since the last time the Warriors did it. And I think OKC's got a chance to do it.
Starting point is 00:24:11 So, all right. Anything else on the NBA playoffs other than the Knicks struggle to get the ball up court? Yeah. Okay. Well, good talk on the NBA. Starting point is 00:26:35 it was time to swap out the old and bring on the new. And this is never in the past, been an easy process for me. It's always been complicated to try to find the right style for the time, to try to find the right fit for my face. But Warby Parker has changed all of that. Starting point is 00:28:33 Favorite ask, and I know I ask it all the time, but for those of you who have not rated or reviewed this podcast, if you can take a minute to do it, it's really helpful, really easy to give us a star count. Five stars is best case. We'd appreciate that if you think the show deserves it, but it's really easy just to hit the star count on Apple, Spotify, anywhere that you're listening to this podcast. And it's pretty easy to write a quick one-sentence review on Apple. Um, those things really help the show out, as does following the show. Uh, that's really easy. Just hit the plus button or the follow button. Um, and if you can do that, uh, it would be much appreciated. Uh, so Tommy, I did something on radio this morning that I wanted to talk about a little bit. Uh, there was a story, Bleacher report story that basically did, um, a pretender contender. column where it was not the elite teams or not the bottom level teams in terms of win
Starting point is 00:29:42 totals, but sort of all the teams in between. And they went through the list and they said, pretender or contender in 2026. And when it came to Washington, they wrote, after winning 12 games and making the NFC championship game in 2024, an injury ravaged commander squad went 5 and 12 in 2025. Much of the reason for that collapse was the NFL's worst defense, and the team went hard at that situation in the offseason. Rookie linebacker Sonny Stiles takes over for Bobby Wagner inside after being drafted seventh overall, and Washington spent big and free agency on the pass rush with the addition of edge rushers Adafi O'Way and K. Levon Chase on. Safety Nick Cross and cornerback of Meek Robertson were signed to bolster a bad defense.
Starting point is 00:30:34 offensively, the team spent a day two pick on wide-out Antonio Williams, who the commander's hope will step up as a compliment to Terry McLaren. But an average offensive line didn't get much better, and the skill position talent around quarterback Jaden Daniels isn't especially imposing. In an NFC East that is shaping up to be a much harder division in 2026, the commanders have a better chance of finishing last than first. Verdict, pretender. So I took this and added it to all of the all-too-early NFL power rankings that are out there virtually everywhere with every sport site. We talked about the other day ESPN had Washington the highest I've seen anybody have them at 19. They're pretty much in the bottom third of the league in terms of power rankings, even the bottom quarter in power
Starting point is 00:31:38 rankings and a few of them. And I ask the question, and I'll let you answer it first here, and then I'll give you my answer, why do you think that outside of this market primarily, although some people believe it inside this market, but outside of this market primarily, Why do you think there is so much skepticism about Washington entering 2026? Their ability to sort of turn it around and become a much better team than they were in 2025. Why do you think that's kind of the outside narrative at this point? Well, again, and I think I'm in a minority on this, but I think to a lot of outsiders, it's still Washington. you know, a lot of outsiders who don't live with the day to day of the new ownership,
Starting point is 00:32:35 it's still Washington, like Chinatown, you know, things are going to screw up in Washington because that's what they've done. Doesn't matter if the people who created that atmosphere are gone. Like I always said, Ben, whether people agree with me or not, like when you come in to a team, like the command, And, you know, you inherit all of the bad things as well as all of the good things that have come with it. Okay. You have to wear the losses that you had nothing to do with because you're going to wear the Super Bowl trophies that you had nothing to do with.
Starting point is 00:33:17 You're certainly going to crow about those. So I think critically, there's a lot of outsiders that just haven't. gotten the idea that this is a football team going in a different direction. And I'm not sure there's a lot of faith in Dan Quinn either. I think there might be some of that. I don't think that's, from my standpoint, I know that there are still people out there that think Washington is still Washington, that it's still, you know, a bottom of the barrel franchise, but I think most NFL people that are covering the sport know how much things have changed
Starting point is 00:34:04 and that Dan Snyder's gone and that they were in the NFC championship game two years ago and that Dan Quinn and Adam Peters are high-quality, you know, hires who have changed the culture of the organization. It's a place where people actually want to go and play. I think the idea that people don't believe in Dan Quinn, I don't buy. into that. I'm not saying that they view him as a great coach, but I don't think they view him as somebody who would prevent a turnaround season. I had some people tell me on radio, they thought it was the coordinator situation. Honestly, I don't think most people really pay attention to the coordinators unless you hire like big names. Like if they had hired Mike McDonald and they had
Starting point is 00:34:50 hired Mike, I'm sorry, Mike McDaniel, and they had hired, uh, and they had hired, um, and they had hired Jonathan Gannon as an example or as examples. I think they would have gotten huge marks, positive marks for that. But I don't think they got downgraded for elevating David Blow and hiring Dorante Jones. You want to hear something interesting, Tommy? If you go through all of the offensive coordinators and defensive coordinators in the league in terms of new, this had to be the biggest influx of first-time coordinators that we've ever seen. I mean, there are so many first-time offensive and defensive coordinators in the NFL this year. And I think part of it is that guys are betting on guys being, and maybe it was because some of the older guys or some of
Starting point is 00:35:42 the proven guys, there weren't a lot of them. Look, when we went through the list of, you know, experienced defensive coordinators or experienced offensive coordinators. It wasn't like the list was super long in terms of available. So that may be part of the reason. For me, I think the narrative about this team is really twofold, but maybe threefold. And I'll give you the third here in a moment. But I think number one is there's some laziness out there. We talked about this the other day, but I think this is a big part of it.
Starting point is 00:36:15 You know, when you're just, you know, writing a column or voting on power rankings or pretender-contender stuff, you look at last year's team, you look at the record, you look at where they finished in the standings, you look at some of the final scores, and you move on. Now, this story obviously acknowledged the injury situation, but I think there's some laziness where you hear people. I've heard people say, wow, they took a major step back. Jaden Daniels took a major step back. We've talked about this before, and I think that's a big part of it, is that they don't understand that the guy, Jaden Daniels, didn't play much football in 2025. So you really can't talk about him taking a step back. That's silly. That's lazy if you come to that conclusion.
Starting point is 00:37:03 And I think it is about the entire team's season and record. But I think it's more than that. I think it's also, and they mention this in the pretender contender. column. I think there was a high expectation that Washington was going to add some offensive talent, some premier offensive talent to give Jaden help on that side of the ball. And at this point, they haven't done that. Chigacanquo is a nice ad, but he's not a high profile ad. The receivers that they added are Diami Brown and Van Jefferson, and they brought back Traylon Burks. They added Rashad White and Jerome Ford in the backfield.
Starting point is 00:37:47 And I think that that's a big part of it, that there was an expectation, you know, that Washington was looking for some home runs on offense, home run additions. And they didn't get Alec Pierce. They didn't get Romeo Dobbs. And they didn't draft Jeremiah Love or Carnell Tate. You know, they didn't, they added a third round slot receiver for the most part out of Clemson. So I think that's part of it. And then I think the third thing that I'll throw in there, that callers threw in there today, is that there may be just some concern and worry about Jaden Daniel's ability to stay healthy.
Starting point is 00:38:30 I understand where that concern comes from. Every time he went out on the field last year, he got hurt. And because of that, he missed the significant majority of the season. and it was, you know, there was some dramatic hurts, too. You know, there was the elbow dislocation against Seattle. There was the running down the field after he threw the pick to Van Ginkle in the Minnesota game when he got completely blown up. So there was some drama there with some of the injuries too, even though they weren't super serious.
Starting point is 00:39:00 And then they basically shut him down, you know, because they were concerned. So there are probably some people out there that just wonder at this point. he's played two NFL seasons, but really only one, because he played all 20 games in year one, and in year two, he missed pretty much the three-fourths of the season. And so I think that's a part of it. I think there are people that are believers in Jaden Daniels, but can you keep him healthy? There are believers in Joe Burrow every year and in Lamar Jackson every year, but there's also a lot of people that say, yeah, but is he going to stay healthy?
Starting point is 00:39:41 Now, it usually doesn't impact the way they view Baltimore, but it has impacted, I think, the way people view Cincinnati. Here's one thing just to keep in mind as it relates to Jaden. Washington's over undernumber at MyBooky is seven and a half. The only teams that are seven and a half or lower are teams without real solid quarterback situations at this point. Washington's the only one that has, you know, what you would, I think, describe as a pretty good quarterback situation. Now, Tyler Shuck in New Orleans, I actually think he's got a chance to be good. But I thought about this and I thought, man, you know what?
Starting point is 00:40:27 Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, the best quarterbacks are always given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to season totals. Because, if you've got a great quarterback, the idea is you're very likely to win more games than you lose. Yes. And in Washington's case, they've got them at seven and a half, and they're the only team with a quarterback that is highly thought of that has that total. So we're not making up the fact that the odds makers and the people that cover the league are skeptical about Washington in 2020. I'm not. I'm expecting a good season.
Starting point is 00:41:16 And you know I'm willing to say, I think they're going to stink. I think we had like seven straight years of eight and eight or worse for predictions. I just think that last year is going to be the aberration. If it's the trend with him getting hurt and missing a lot of games, it's going to suck if that happens. again this year because the conversation this time next year is going to be all about whether or not to give him a long-term contract extension. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:47 You know, if he misses two straight seasons, the bulk of two straight seasons, that's going to be the number one subject. But I don't think it deserves to be the number one subject now. I think last year was an aberration. It certainly wasn't the norm. The question is whether or not it is the number. the beginning of a trend. And we won't know that until they start to play games.
Starting point is 00:42:14 But I... My... Yeah. I would be more weary, and I have been, of both of two new coordinators. Yeah. I think that's the thing that really... Because I've seen this quarterback win with offensive talent
Starting point is 00:42:33 that's probably not as good as he's going to have this year. And I think the defense is looking like the same level of talent, basically. Well, I think he had a little bit better. You do? I think a little bit better. Because you think Ayuk's going to get at it? The fat man. The fat man?
Starting point is 00:42:55 Yeah. Who's the fat man? The kid they drafted from Penn State. The running back. Oh, the fat man. That's his nickname. K-Tron Allen? You think that that's why you think he's got better talent around him?
Starting point is 00:43:08 I like him, too. I do like them. I do like them. I like, okay, all right. But I'd be very concerned about two rookie coordinators, especially defensively. I understand the concern over two new coordinators. It's not unreasonable at all. I'm not concerned about the offensive coordinator in particular.
Starting point is 00:43:37 The defensive coordinator, I have no idea. And defense has to be improved, for sure. But I think it's more about when you do these things in the off season, the first place you look is last year. What did this team do last year? And they're kind of out of sight, out of mind. That NFC championship run in 2024 is a long time ago after they end up with a season like last year.
Starting point is 00:44:05 All right, we've got much more show to go, including the Barclay-Dremon-Green incident last night on the set of ESPN's NBA pregame and post-game show. We'll get to that more after these words from a few of our sponsors. I'll be honest. At first, I was skeptical about ordering plants online, like, is this thing actually going to show up alive? Well, I was in Shelly's backroom last night, 1331 F Street Northwest in the district. I left after the Nat seemed to have their game well in hand at Nats Park and headed to Shelly's,
Starting point is 00:47:55 where I watched the NBA playoffs. I could have watched baseball or basketball at Shelly's because one of their eight high-definition TVs, they have a variety of sports that's always a very important. available to these shelley's. I saw some of my good friends. And actually, one of my good friends is donating an item for the auction for the cigars and serve both-cour-buff cigar event. Nice. What's the item? Fundraiser. Well, it's an autographed helmet, a Drew-Breeze autographed helmet. Wow. Who got you a...
Starting point is 00:48:38 a Drew Breeze autographed I can't stay. Okay. I can't stay. So you know, it's interesting thing about this event. What? You know, last week I was in a panic
Starting point is 00:48:49 about enough stuff for the auction and now I have too much stuff. Doesn't that happen every year for you? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:48:58 I got to make sure I try to shorten the auction a little bit because it ran a little bit too long last year because I think, you know, we get a lot of stuff. You get a lot of stuff.
Starting point is 00:49:07 Well, I mean, Last night, I got from James Wood, the Nats home run star, an autographed bat for auction. That's nice. Yes. Did you go to the game last night? Did you go to the – because you went down to the stadium to pick up the bat. So you went to the 15 to 2 win over Minnesota? Yes.
Starting point is 00:49:29 If I left, when the Nats seemingly were totally in control, and then headed over to Shelly. Got it. Did you miss the C.J. Abrams Grand Slam? No, I heard that on the radio. Okay. But you missed it. I saw him hit two doubles, though. Yeah, he's pretty good. Yeah, he's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:49:49 He leads the big, you know, he leads the big leagues in RBIs. 33. Yeah. He's got it almost as many RBIs as he has hits. Yeah. It's pretty good. Yeah. But if you want to bid on these items, you need to come to,
Starting point is 00:50:05 my event, cigars and curveballs on Monday night, May 18th, starting at 6 o'clock at Shelley's backroom for a hundred-dollar ticket donation, you get three cigars, you get the great appetizers that they have at Shelly's. We've been telling you for years about the menu. You get to sample it for yourself at Shelly's that night, and we have a live auction of sports memorabilia and things, other things as well. I'm assuming putting you on the spot that you're going to be willing to donate a visit to the Kevin Sheen Show podcast
Starting point is 00:50:46 when we do the podcast together. Let me consider it. Yes, of course we will do that. Okay. Of course we'll. Okay, I figured as much. So I'm looking forward to that. We have another interesting item.
Starting point is 00:50:59 The, uh, your boss over. at Odyssey, Chris is offering to donate a studio tour of 106-7 the fan and a meet and greet with the junkies. Wow. Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:19 So, like, all this stuff is going to be up for bid at this auction. There are different kinds of memorabilia, different kinds of events. Okay. But you've got to be there. You can go to DCGraise.com to find out more and to purchase tickets. Cannot wait for May 18th. What time does it start again? Starts at six.
Starting point is 00:51:45 I have a quick question for you. Do you care that the NFL, and it's probably something that you haven't even noticed, but three years ago the NFL changed its jersey number rules, And so a lot of traditional positions started allowing like single digit jersey numbers, like linebackers. For years, linebackers had to wear between 40 and 59 or 90 and 99. But starting in the 2023 season, they could wear between the number zero and 59 and 90 and 99. And we saw the receivers, lots of receivers now have single digit numbers.
Starting point is 00:52:30 the old rule was they had to have a jersey number between 10 and 19 or 80 and 89. And now we see a lot of those jerseys as single-digit numbers. Is this something that you care about? Like you'd like to see a linebacker not wearing, you know, 14 or 7. You'd rather see, you know, a linebacker wearing a jersey number in the 50s. I like the variety. You do? I like seeing a player at a traditional position
Starting point is 00:53:05 with an odd number. A number eight or number four. Okay. Or something like that, you know? The reason I bring it up is that the rookie players for Washington got assigned their jersey numbers. I'm sure, you know. Did they? Yes, they did.
Starting point is 00:53:23 The team put out the tweet today. by the way, a rookie jersey tweet already is approaching three quarters of a million views versus, you know, the thing they tweeted yesterday was something about their defensive end, Joseph's, the guy that they drafted in the fifth round, and that has 32,000 views. So anything uniform-wise. Now, this is more number-specific, gets massive views. But Sonny Stiles, jersey number, he was number zero last year at Ohio State. He was number six prior to being number zero.
Starting point is 00:54:11 He was number zero last year because he was designated as the Big O, which is a very prestigious thing at Ohio State, the person that wears the zero jersey. They are considered to be, you know, the hot most respected guy in the team. He got number 52. He took a jersey number in the 50s. I was expecting kind of a single-digit number, maybe six, which was available, his college number from a few years ago, but he took number 52,
Starting point is 00:54:45 Jamin Davis's number. Also, Neil Okulowitz's number. Yes. But I like that. I like when linebackers have the traditional numbers, but I'm not that, you know, off put by the new, you know, number schemes and choices. I mean, I always think a guy with a single-digit jersey number
Starting point is 00:55:09 looks like a faster player than a guy, you know, with two numbers on his jersey. A guy with single digits is a punt returner has always seemed to me to be more likely to break one or to fumble than a guy with like a jersey number in the 40s. What if they go to three digits? I don't think that's possible, is it? Can you fit three digits on there?
Starting point is 00:55:35 I don't know. Make the number smaller. Yeah. Sell more jerseys. I don't think we're going to see that. All right. You had something that you wanted to bring up with me about some poll that the athletic had?
Starting point is 00:55:51 Well, the athletic does a poll every year, an anonymous poll in the NBA, their business partner, I might want to point out, that, you know, Paul's players on their opinions anonymously as different things. And I can't say if it's been three years in a row,
Starting point is 00:56:14 but I know this in this year's Paul, Brian Keefe of the Wizards was named the worst coach in the league and I know that's at least the second time he's been named the worst coach in the league yet he's been retained to take them to the next step that everyone expects his franchise to take
Starting point is 00:56:39 come next season yeah Brian Keefe by far and away the question which current coach aside from your own, do you find the least impressive? By the way, who are, who, who's the polling group here? Players, coaches? Players, I think. Players? Okay.
Starting point is 00:57:01 Yeah. Yeah, player poll results. Yeah, he's, he's the runaway, least impressive head coach in the league, uh, generating 22% of the 100 player votes cast. and then Doc Rivers, by the way, that doesn't shock me. I have always thought that Doc Rivers, who's not going to be a coach anymore, they fired him. But I've always thought he was incredibly overrated. Okay.
Starting point is 00:57:32 There's some good coaches on this list, too. There's some coaches that are on both lists. You see that, right? Because there's a most impressed with coach and a least impressed with coach. Joe Missoula is the coach that players find most impressive. I would not agree with that. Not after the display I saw in the playoff.
Starting point is 00:57:54 Yeah. To me, I mean, I mean, Spolstra is the most impressive coach to me, year and year out. Where is he on this list? He's fourth behind Missoula, Dagnalt, and Bickerstaff. I mean, Eric Spolstra to me is he and then I really am a big fan of Nick Nurse.
Starting point is 00:58:22 I think he does a really good job with the Sixers. He's not even voted on here. Okay. There's a player, underrated and overrated player poll. Did you want to, what else did you want to say about Brian Keith? Yes, they don't have necessarily a coach that people respect around the league. But then again, how would they respect him if they don't even. even know him. How could they say he's impressive when he's been coaching a team that's been
Starting point is 00:58:49 intentionally trying to lose for three years? Let's see what the poll says next year. Okay. Let's do that. I'm more interested in the player poll, most overrated and most underrated player. The most underrated player, okay, these are very few votes. You know, 4% of the vote, Jalen Johnson and Derek White. Jalen Johnson is a real. underrated player. I agree with that. I thought he played really well in the series against the Hawks, against the Knicks for the Hawks. It's just a lot of players with, you know, between
Starting point is 00:59:28 one and four votes, it looks like. The most overrated player, ooh, wow, a runaway. Sengoon is the most overrated. player according to players. I like his game. I think he's really crafty and pretty good as the center of the
Starting point is 00:59:57 of the rockets. Rudy Gobert is number two. Trey Young's third. This is something that I'm sure you noticed. Yes. And this is an approval for Trey Young because two years ago, he was number one on this list. Yeah, he's always among the overrated players. He's always on an overrated players list for sure. Okay. What else?
Starting point is 01:00:23 By the way, big day Sunday for the Wizards, right? Yeah. John Wall's going to be there. He's going to represent the Wizards at the draft lottery. 3 p.m. Sunday. Yes. Can't wait. Hope they do well. We have one more thing that we want to mention on this show today and talk about. We'll do that after these words from a few of our sponsors. Shack was out last night and
Starting point is 01:02:28 Draymond Green was sitting in. And they were talking about the warriors and how old they've gotten and what was in store for the Warriors moving forward. You'll hear Barclay talk about it a little bit and then you'll hear Draymond Green really dig at Charles Barkley's last few years of his career with just barely a response from Kenny Smith. Here's how it sounded last night on ESPN. Listen, sports are for young people. You hope to have a great long career, but sports, nobody wins when they're 37, 38. You said what you said.
Starting point is 01:03:10 I didn't want to hear if he believes. what you're talking. Yeah, I mean, I think the goal is just to not look like you in the Houston Rockets uniform. Yeah. It's ultimately to go for us. Like, we don't want to. What does that look like? Did you see it?
Starting point is 01:03:26 I'm just asking. I saw it. The goal was to not look like you in a Houston Rockets uniform. Go ahead. You go first. I was surprised. Let me just mention that Charles didn't respond. he pretty much sat there silently and did not respond to what I thought was actually a legitimate
Starting point is 01:03:48 sort of dig. I don't think he was trying to have fun. I think he was really going after Barclay in that spot. What did you think? Well, it was pretty low because on Traymond Green's best day, he should hope to look like Barkley did at the end of his career with Houston. When he was Averning in almost 17 points a game and more than 12 rebounds at the end of his career. Yeah, that's kind of the point about why I think Dremont's getting eviscerated on social media. Dremont got some bad information about Charles Barkley's later stages of his career in Houston. Keep in mind, too, you know, Barclay played in an era where when you were 35, 36 years old, you had a lot more wear and tear on your body than you do now with all of the load management and all of the sitting.
Starting point is 01:04:49 And look, Draymond Green's played a lot of games because they played so many playoff games. I'm a fan of Draymond Green. I've always been a fan of Draymond Green. You and I have talked a lot about him over the years. I think he's one of the highest IQ players of his generation. He's going to be in the Hall of Fame. He was instrumental in the Warriors' run. But he got some bad info here because Charles, while, you know, he was not the player in Houston
Starting point is 01:05:18 at the end of his career that he was in Philadelphia or in Phoenix when he won the MVP, Barclay was still an effective player leading Houston in 97 to the Western Conference finals, averaging 18 and 12 in the postseason over his final few years in Houston. regular season, like you said, near 17 points a game. I think it was 16.7 points per game, over 12 rebounds, four assists. He was still a guy that was averaging a steel and a half a game, was shooting at a high level. Again, not the offensive player that he was in Philly or in Phoenix. But Draymond got some bad information if he was waiting to deliver that line.
Starting point is 01:06:05 because to your point, Draymond Green here in the final few years of his career is nowhere near where Barclay was at the end of his career. And he wasn't necessarily comparing just himself to Charles. He was comparing the warriors as they're aging to Charles. And somebody gave him some bad info. And, you know, I don't know, maybe, you know, he was looking to deliver that line
Starting point is 01:06:31 because Barclay's been rough on today's players over the years. Draymond. He's been tough on Draymond at times over the years. But I don't think he was doing it in a good nature trying to have fun way. No. I think I don't know him. But I think he was trying to be a prick. I thought he was too. And I'm surprised Barkley didn't snap back. I know.
Starting point is 01:07:02 I tell you why, if Shaq had been there, I bet he said something. Yeah, or, you know, or Kenny or Ernie, if Shaq, like, what you said would have been the line. Like, you could only dream about being, you know, Charles Barkley in his final years in Houston, because you're nowhere near it right now. I mean, not even close. So if that was an intended dig, it didn't work because you got bad information. If you were trying to have fun, ha, ha, ha. Yeah, that was uncomfortable to watch. I wasn't watching it live.
Starting point is 01:07:34 but it was a bit awkward the way it played out. Let's see. I wonder if those guys will come back and do something with it tonight. Do they have the games tonight? I forget if they have the games tonight. I think tonight's an Amazon night. They probably have the games tomorrow night or Saturday. Man, these games in the NBA playoffs,
Starting point is 01:07:55 they're all over the place, all over the place. And you know what? Yeah. You know what? What? And we could talk about this some other time, but everywhere you look in every sport, ratings are up, like skyrocketing up. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:14 Okay. It's as if, like, in the NBA, the NHL, baseball, they're all, I mean, jumping big numbers. Yet, these games have never been harder to find in all these sports, particularly basketball and baseball. people can't find them, yet the ratings are through the roof. I think the numbers are absolute bullshit now. I don't think either they were bullshit before or they're bullshit now. But it's not like the world all of a sudden just woke up and decided, we're going to start watching these games because they're all double-digit sometimes with some of these sports.
Starting point is 01:08:59 Yeah. I mean, I don't know how they're coming. I think they're phony numbers. Either they were phony numbers and now they're right or they're phony numbers now. Yeah, I'm not really familiar with, you know, the inner workings of how these numbers are being gathered.
