Your entrepreneurial adventure begins now.
Nick Goes, the CEO and co-founder of ZenMade,
started the business back in April 2013 in Palo Alto.
He and his co-founder had a vision to make life easier for maids service owners by helping them manage their cleaners, clients, and schedules through their software.
They didn't have an easy start, though.
Both Nick and his co-founder had to work full-time jobs for over two years while building ZenMade.
Nick even had to manage the business from 400 miles away due to a job relocation.
Unfortunately, their initial made service venture had to be shut down.
But from those setbacks, a new opportunity emerged.
another friend approached Nick, believing they could create a better management platform for Maid's services.
ZenMade was born, initially under the name Maiddesk.
Nick's co-founder Arun quickly learned Ruby on Rails and started coding.
It took nearly six months to develop a working prototype.
Meanwhile, Nick was burning the candle at both ends, making calls to maid service owners during early mornings and weekends.
ZenMade's focus was on an easy-to-use calendar, specifically designed for recurring services,
a unique need for the made service industry.
They also automated communications around appointments.
One remarkable aspect of their journey is that they had minimal startup costs,
thanks to their combined skills.
They invested in Google AdWords once the product was live to drive traffic to their website and app.
When it came to launching ZenMade, there wasn't a grand event.
They didn't have a massive audience to announce to.
Instead, they relied on word of mouth and some press releases.
Their first customer came on board for a board.
a $1,000 lifetime deal, paid over four months. They gradually built their online presence through
content marketing, email marketing, and retargeting campaigns. They also created the ZenMade
mastermind Facebook group, which became a hub for industry discussions and lead generation.
Fast forward to the present, and ZenMade has crossed the half million dollar yearly revenue
mark with ambitions to reach a million dollars annually. Nick has three primary goals for the future.
1. Extend Zenmaid's lead as industry leaders.
Two, achieve negative net churn, where existing customers generate more revenue than they lose.
And three, develop paid marketing strategies that pay for themselves.
Nick's journey has taught him several valuable lessons, including the importance of testing,
treating everyone well, and never giving up, especially when facing challenges.
In terms of tools, ZenMade relies on Slack,
active campaign and intercom for their daily operations. Nick has also drawn inspiration from books
like The Four Hour Work Week, Jobs by Walter Isaacson, and The Fish That Eat the Whale.
He has taken online courses and adopted lessons from Straight Line Persuasion by Jordan Belfort.
His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? Focus on feedback loops and accelerate the speed at which
you iterate through them. Don't fall into the trap of building something without validating its
demand. Nick's success story with ZenMade is a testament to the power of persistence and adaptability
in entrepreneurship. Now let's dive into the key principles that propelled them to triumph. Let's jump
right in. Principle 1, stay agile and iterate quickly. ZenMade's journey teaches us the importance
of staying agile and iterating rapidly. They constantly sought feedback from their audience,
ensuring they were on the right track before fully implementing their ideas. As a business owner,
regularly seek feedback from your customers.
Use surveys, social media polls, or direct conversations to understand their needs better.
Implement small changes based on this feedback swiftly.
Don't wait for major overhauls.
Instead, make continuous improvements to meet your customers' evolving expectations.
Principle 2. Build strong relationships and community.
ZenMade's success was not just about their software.
It was about the community they built.
They created a supportive environment for made service owners.
fostering trust and loyalty.
This community became a source of valuable feedback, content ideas, and even partnerships.
Invest in building a community around your business.
This could be in the form of social media groups, forums, or even local meetups,
engage with your audience genuinely, providing value and fostering connections.
A strong community not only serves as a loyal customer base,
but also provides invaluable insights and ideas for your business growth.
Principle three, never stop learning and adapting.
Zenmaid's founder, Nick, embraced a continuous learning mindset.
He consumed books, courses, and podcasts, adapting his strategies based on the knowledge he gained.
This adaptability was crucial, especially during challenging times.
In your business, allocate time and resources for continuous learning.
Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and customer preferences.
Attend webinars.
read books or enroll in online courses relevant to your business domain.
Adapting to changing landscapes and evolving customer needs
positions your business for long-term success.
Remember, these principles are not exclusive to ZenMade.
They are universal concepts that can drive success in any business.
Stay agile, nurture relationships, and never stop learning.
These timeless principles can pave the way for your business triumphs.
