W...e don't really know. But we do know that Gunn confirmed that Viola Davis (Amanda Waller) John Cena (Peacemaker) and Xolo Mariduena (blue Beetle) have all survived the cut. All three will carry over into the new DCU. Confusing? Make sense? The Writers Strike is over. When will SAG follow? Starting point is 00:00:30 Did you know they have employee pricing going on right now from May 26th through the end of the month, May 31st. That's right. Galpin Ford employee pricing and that's good pricing. Why? Because they've been in business for 80 years since 1946. They have a massive inventory. Mike Schwartz is the general manager, the number one guy there. You're going to ask for him by name.
Starting point is 00:00:49 Not to mention the number one volume dealer in the world 29 years in a row. That's what Galpin Ford has. You can do it all online at galpinford.com. Find your vehicle. They'll drive it right to you and get employed. pricing the 26 through the 31st. Fleetal Adela. What's up?
Starting point is 00:01:03 Fleetle Adetalus. It's what the hell is today? Thursday. And James Gunn is still being confusing. He announces three characters are sticking within the DCU and they're all people that have been there before. And I think there's friends. Pretty confusing.
Starting point is 00:01:21 What does it mean? And there's a, go ahead, right in this shot. Sure, perfect. Perfect. And still didn't get the right. No. Which one do you need? I thought it was being sly.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Not even close. How did you think, wait, wait, hold on. How did you think you were being sly by sticking your face? As my hand went into frame, I was like, oh, that's dumb. But then I had to just commit to it. But they're all very, very loud. Yours is loud. You want it lower?
Starting point is 00:01:46 Yeah. So it's this one, right? Oh, okay. Yeah, the little, these are wrong. Mike was in here and he wanted it. So, but, okay, so let me. That was good. I'm leaving all that.
Starting point is 00:01:56 No, I would leave that. I think that's good television. It was great television. Thank you so much. Brett's here, guys. And we're going to be talking about that in general. We're going to be talking about the fact that the writer strike is over. When is SAG going to be next? We think, I don't know, mid-October, early November. We've got to figure that out and talk about that. Martin Scorsese says some things, and I'm not talking about the comic book stuff. I'm talking more so about the departed part two. What the hell is that mean? There's other things we'll talk about. For sure. We might react to videos. We might not. We're kind of shooting by the hip. HIP by the Shoots. So if you're brand new to this channel, you've never been here before, I'm sorry. Make sure you head on over to that subscribe button. Hit that button, man. We're almost at 95,000, and we're approaching 100.
Starting point is 00:02:41 It's coming up to my birthday month in October, man, and I want to get to 100 by the end of the month. Can you help us? Apple Podcasts, Spotify, anywhere podcasts are found. You can go and head over there as well. We got out of the theater reactions, all these things more. Brett finished one piece before I did. We'll talk about that also. So let's get into it, ladies and gentlemen.
Starting point is 00:03:00 It is the big thing. It's me and Brett. Let's do it. Welcome back, one and all, to the big thing. We just adjust that, please. Brett Sheridan, my awesome tech guy. And Brett Sherrodham. You know, I had somebody yesterday.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Riley and I did that, you know, we do that UAP show on Tuesday, the one that you so very much into. Love the UAPs. I know you love it. So we did our show, and it did like 85,000 views in the course of like 24 hours, right? And they've been doing good, but there's a few of them that have hit. And that's one of the ones. And of course, it was one of the virtual ones.
Starting point is 00:03:51 And it did like 80-something thousand. However, one of the funniest things I saw, this. Well, not that. No. The theme song. Yeah. Pretty hard rock. It's a rendition of the old Schmo's theme, right?
Starting point is 00:04:06 So I saw some guy must have been brand new to the show. What the fuck for your opening theme? Change your theme song! What? I laughed. Dude, I laughed so hard. I threw the guy out of the channel, but I laughed so hard. Hard metal, huh?
Starting point is 00:04:27 What a great comment to get thrown. Like, worth it to get thrown out of. And I also thought of some people, too, like, when you throw people out of the chat, it's, and again, it's a matter of if you're insulting people, you're saying stuff. but this is if you don't want to deal with. My favorite response ever is like, that's free speech is dead. It's not dead.
Starting point is 00:04:43 Go say it wherever you want. Just can't say it on my store. My store. That's the confusion of free speech. Yeah, right. It's like, well, free speech is dead. No, no, you can say whatever you want. Go say it on Twitter.
Starting point is 00:04:53 You just not allowed to say it in my store. And it's not criticism. All day long. We welcome that here. And honestly, I probably could have given the guy a pass because I laughed so hard, but I was like, nah, I laughed so hard. I thought it was the funniest thing.
Starting point is 00:05:04 No pass for you. Change your theme song. Hard, dude, what the hell. He was so mad. He was so mad. He makes no sense. No, I was walking down the block, walking the dog today. He's been shitting himself. That's not, that's, that's not, that's, that's not the point in the story. It's not the point. I don't know what he ate. He ate something. He's a pug, so he eats everything. I don't know what he ate, but he was, he yesterday in the morning, throws up on the floor, um, yeah, pukes on the floor, can't open his eyes for, for a second. What the hell's going on with them?
Starting point is 00:05:36 I was like, he ate something. And then he's just shit and mud. Oh. Yeah. And like, and he's finally, now he's, you know, he's moving around. He's fine. He's, what he ate, eat something stupid. And, and still mush, mush poops.
Starting point is 00:05:49 I don't know why that had to do with, had anything to do with anything, but I was walking, I was walking dog. And I had thought of, I thought of something, but I started talking about mush poops. Well, what did we tell about right before this? Mush poops. Oh, that's how that, yeah. No, some of the comments. Then I had something I was going to talk about. Hard, man.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Oh, well, you were saying that that one hit with Riley, but I thought that you were going to tell me. Why do you think that one hit particularly just to get you off of what you're trying to remember? I know. I can't remember what it was. I can't remember what it was. If it comes back, it comes back. I was, I don't know, you know, I think that one of the reasons, because of what we titled it, because there is a, there's something on the Senate right now.
Starting point is 00:06:27 There's a petition, the Senate to essentially have a committee that, would offer full disclosure for it would, and it would start with the president. And the president would say, all right, I'm putting 12 people on this thing. They're gonna look at these cases, and then they're gonna request and subpoena and do all these things of these different.
Starting point is 00:06:48 And it's like a major step if it gets passed. And it would be basically that they would start revealing stuff that's been locked up for 70, 80 years. So that part of it, the bodies, those bodies still haven't been someone, and that was another comment I got yesterday. It was hilarious, like, don't you see, do your research,
Starting point is 00:07:03 those bodies were debunked. And I literally say in that episode, these particular ones, I preface it by saying, I don't believe it. It still smells like a fart in an elevator to me. But these particular ones have not been debunked. This guy who was associated with bodies that were debunked at one point, but these aren't the ones. And this guy said, do you, all right, search. And I was like, I just, people screaming at the time. It's hilarious.
Starting point is 00:07:29 They were teeny. They were really little. I didn't, like, I guess, because I saw. just by themselves, but then I recently saw people next to them. Like, oh, gosh, they're tiny. They're little, and I think one of the things that they said inside of this episode yesterday was that they're going to have, the rumor is that NASA is sending in people to do samples of them. So, who knows? But, but, and my thumbnail.
Starting point is 00:07:54 I think it was the best thumbnail I've ever done. And they shadow. Oh, you think that was brought them in. I think that's, I did, I did good on the thumbnail. Who's this? What if some of these, these aliens are? Perfect. This is when my wife's been taking pictures. Can watch our news programs, and they go,
Starting point is 00:08:12 look at Flarknarks on TV. What are they doing? That's not a bad thumbnail, right? Yeah, that's great. I made that thumbnail yesterday. I was very proud of myself. I'm learning new styles. What you're saying is that our president is an alien. Yeah. And you and Riley are both flabbergasted.
Starting point is 00:08:31 We're both flabbergasted. It's true. but no. I don't know how I did it. I don't know if I'll be able to do it again, but nonetheless I liked it. And it did pretty well. But I saw Paul Patrol. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:08:44 Are you jealous? I know. I asked you wanted to go. What if it was just you and I that went to the Paul? I would have done it. You know, it was two weirdos. I can't even think of one of their names. I know my nephew was into one of them.
Starting point is 00:08:57 I could tell you, my kids love. I was like, who's your favorite? And he'd always say it. And I can't even have. I'm all, well, I can name all the ones that from the classic, like from 10 years ago, the ones, there's new ones that pop it up. There's one that I didn't see the first movie. It pops up in the first movie, and then there's a new one that pops up in this one, I guess.
Starting point is 00:09:13 I don't remember. I saw it yesterday. But there's Sky. She's my daughter's favorite. She's the one that she's the lead of this one. There's rubble. It's the little chunker that likes to eat. Rubble.
Starting point is 00:09:30 Yeah. There's Rocky. Rocky. Marshall. Marshall? That's the one. Marshall's the spotted one. And then Chase. Chase is the one and then Ryder runs the shop. And Mayor
Starting point is 00:09:43 Humperdink is like the main is like the Lex Luthor. Did you ever see the S&L where... Did that a popperger? I think they... Do I know who? No. I think it was it was... Oh God, it was some... It was a... His face is popping up in my head and I can't...
Starting point is 00:09:58 Louis Gosset Jr. Lewis Gosset Jr., that's who it was. It was Lewis Gossett Jr. And Dom Deloese. Hank Azaria. Hank Azaria. Harry Connick Jr. Kevin Sorbo, Kevin Spacey. No, none of those.
Starting point is 00:10:12 You go for the most popular group. We used to have a bit where we would go. It was Kevin Smith, Kevin Spacey, Kevin Sorbo. And this is before there was any conspiracy against the Kevin's there. But, you know, it was just our way of naming off, just bad. Conspiracy or controversy? Just conspiracy. Controversy.
Starting point is 00:10:31 Conspiracy? Maybe both. Yeah. Who knows? Well, their controversies are a conspiracy because we don't know if it's proven. No, he pretty much. Well, no, he was proven. Spacey was proven innocent in a recent trial.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Yes. Yeah, no. More or less. Yeah. People are going, I don't know about that. But I don't know. I try to stay away from these things. Yeah, I stay away.
Starting point is 00:10:55 So basically, yeah, it was. Paul Patrol. Who plays? How do you ever Paul? Kevin Space. Paul Bichel of Kevin Spacey. Because we were naming off people that were in this sketch. But it was funny because they were just like,
Starting point is 00:11:07 we let puppies run our fire station. It's not a good idea. I don't think I've ever seen that. Who's Inside Lewin Davis? That's the only movie I could hear. Oscar Isaac? Oscar Isaac, I believe. Oh, is in that sketch.
Starting point is 00:11:21 That's the only thing you could reckon. I mean, that's a very, it's a great movie. It's a very obscure, though, wherever. He's been in some stuff. He's in Star Wars. He was in Star Wars. I mean, I like that. You went inside.
Starting point is 00:11:30 I mean, inside Louis Davis is a. That's where my mind, that's what's wrong with my mind is I will only remember. Is it a Dune? Do you ever see Dune? No, I did not see Dune. You haven't seen the new Dune? Matt Serra is twitching. I did Matt Serra's show this morning.
Starting point is 00:11:43 And if you bring up, you like, you don't care. No, I don't know. Helen Mirren, no. Judy Densh. Judy Densh, I'll say Excalibur. Isn't it weird? I knew exactly who you meant because I do that all the time. Does everybody do that?
Starting point is 00:11:58 Does everybody mess up Judy Denschen, Helen Mir? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I do it all the time. I did it recently. The narrator, Barbie, I said it was Judy Dent. She said, nope, Helen Mir. I just know right away that if I'm messing it up, that's where I'm going. I haven't seen Barre. I'm bummed because Lonnie went to go see it with some friends, like in an outdoor theater, and I dropped Lydia off with some friends to see it. I was thinking they're like, you can go with him. I won't rain on your fun.
Starting point is 00:12:23 That does remind me, though. One of the things that we're going to start doing, because right now we have the one piece, we'll talk. about in a second with the One Piece reactions that I've done. We have the Asoka reactions. We have the Asoka show in general that's up right now. A couple of movies. But I had done a poll on the channel to see people would want to see me do movies and other things. And I think you and I agreed because of your viral hit of Eternals, that we were... Elemental. Right. I'm Elemental. That you and I would watch Elemental together. Oh, yeah. And we'll do that. But I also think that there... You know, I've never seen the first saw.
Starting point is 00:13:04 I think that's the only one I've seen. I haven't seen the first saw. I do that. I mean, it's been a long time. So that might be one. And then Barbie might be interesting. Yeah. There might be some good ones that we could do.
Starting point is 00:13:14 And maybe, like, get some suggestions from the audience of as far as people are going to go first time. I'm going to say first time watching. People are going to go, the thing. If you look in this channel, I watched the thing earlier, like last year or a year and half ago. And I did it on Patreon. I talked about it with Dorena. but then I have an actual review on this channel. But that's going to be something we're going to do more of.
Starting point is 00:13:35 But as far as One Piece goes, I really dig the show. You wound up watching like eight episodes in what, like three days? We cranked it out. That's the only way we will go, well, let's try this out. And then we'll watch. And you loved it? Yeah, we'll watch three or four of them when we didn't have time. Again, it's that old, so many people who said this.
Starting point is 00:13:53 Yeah, I won't watch a movie. My wife and I'll be like, oh, we're too tired for a movie, but then we'll watch four, one hour, you know, episodes. of a show and that's what we did we did four four and four so yeah i mean yeah i mean well no it's only it's only eight uh seven seven seven to eight episodes eight episodes oh no we did four four four four four four four four four three and one okay yeah we did last night was just one okay so you finished last night yeah it says i have one last night i don't know whatever but we did it in three days i have one i have one i'm gonna probably put that out if not if it hasn't already come out today i'm gonna at the time
Starting point is 00:14:27 of this taping i'm probably gonna watch it a little later on today But I really like this show a lot. I love the world that it sets up. It's really, and I told you you, you're going to love that snail phone. Oh, yeah. The whole world is fun, and it's got this, my only thing to compare it to was like, I said it's got a lemony Snicket's vibe. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Where it's like you've got, it's modern, but there's older stuff in there, and you're not, but it's like, and then something's like the phone, the snail phone doesn't even fit, but the, the fact there is phones with their snails. So I just love that it's just created. its own little. How hungry did you get at that restaurant? Oh, yeah. I want to be at that restaurant. So bad. Gordon Ramsey with the mustache.
Starting point is 00:15:06 When he was making the sushi, too, when he goes, give me the tuna. Oh, yeah, I love that. The show's great. And I love the crew. The characters in general. And I said it in my last reaction. There's like a, there's like a mouse that shows up, a mouse man. And he's
Starting point is 00:15:22 like a cop, but he's like a rat, whatever. He's a dirty cat. Yeah, and they call him a rat. And he means he's like literally a rat. And I was like, you can't, if you're episode seven in going, come on, the guy's got mouse ears. It's like, guy, there's a snail phone. It's in episode one. If you can take the snail phone, you can take the guy with the rat ears, you know.
Starting point is 00:15:47 There's fish people. There's fishmen. Who's your favorite character? I mean, Luffy is, you know, I think it's going to be, that's going to be number one. My guess is one of the number one Halloween costumes this year. I don't know, they're all so fun. What about the villains? Villains.
Starting point is 00:16:06 The Dracula guy, right? Yeah. Yeah, he's the best. Yeah, and the one that bugged me the most was the fish that kind of had the... Oh, the Beverly Hills Classic Surgeons. Yeah, yeah. That one was like, he's driving me crazy, but like, but Arlong's really good. And he talks like this.
Starting point is 00:16:23 It's like, Brett, you may want to make sure you sit in my seat. Nami. And I'm in who. You owe me. You owe me money. Yeah, he's great. And how great is that clown? Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:16:38 Dude, that clown has me laughing. I thought it was like, is this somebody I know? No, it isn't. He sounds, he's got a vibe like somebody that I don't, that I can't picture. But do you want to know why I got mad at him? What? Because he came up with something, or at least said something that you and I should have been saying for years. And I mean never said it.
Starting point is 00:16:57 And I was like, why did I never think of that? It's shit something. Shittiest. Shittites, yeah. What? You shittites. I mean, he calls somebody a shit face, shittiest. They love shit in that show.
Starting point is 00:17:11 The one guy, the young cook, calls, the Gordon Ramsey guy, calls him the old shit bad a whole times. I'm telling you, the clown made me laugh so many different times between shittiotes and shittastic or whatever. I mean, just, I love that show. wait to watch the they really got picked up for second season obviously i that yeah like even said it when the last episode ended it said you know second episode or second season picked up just to tell you yeah yeah yeah yeah well good i mean it's it's a really good show and i think and and it's surprising because i'm not i mean not that i'm i don't have anything against anime i've just never really gotten into it right and it's such a it's that show's been around forever my daughter
Starting point is 00:17:50 loves the live action and loves the anime also she's a but she's my oldest is a really big fan so she's really excited for in general so that was that was a pleasant surprise i'm excited to see the last episode and i'll have that reaction up i'm hoping by the time this comes out of it'll either already have been up or it'll be out later today so the goal is to try to get it out today um you think you can you know um whose daughter my daughter is uh when i said hey do you want to do you want to watch one piece you know because maybe we can all watch it together this is when we're only two episode in. And she goes, no, that's okay.
Starting point is 00:18:28 I'm like, well, why not? She goes, because I don't want to. I'm like, oh, you're just like your mother. Remember when Lonnie said, because I don't want to? You're like, okay. Lonnie's the queen of that. I respect it, though. I respect it.
Starting point is 00:18:40 What was it that you wanted to do on it? I can't remember what it was. No, I wanted her to watch. And she wound up watching it and liking it. It was the boys. Oh, yeah. Totally. She should watch the boys.
Starting point is 00:18:49 She said, no. She said, I don't want it. I don't want it. I said, okay. What if it's good? Yeah, we bang that one out too. During? Oh, you...
Starting point is 00:18:55 Oh, no, yeah. Oh, no. Yeah, also. Yeah. No, nothing gets her more hot than misogynist men. There's some hot shit going on in that show. I'll tell you, it was hilarious on the Sith Council show yesterday. Mike starts talking about, like, because Mary Elizabeth Winstead is great in the show, but she's...
Starting point is 00:19:15 A lot of people have been talking about her tush in the show because they feature it. In which? In what? In Asoka. Oh, okay. And Mike yesterday was just like, I don't know. He was like, caught off guard. He's like tongue-tight. He's like, look, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:19:30 Oh, I just got it. It's hilarious. Before we move on, we're going to get to this story about James Gunn because I'm confused, man. I don't understand what the hell's going on in the D.C. world. I'll break it down for you. Please do. Brett will break it down first. But before we do, I do want to tell you guys about our two wonderful sponsors, both Rocket Money and AG1.

Starting point is 00:23:32 the the links as the first comment so if you have the means to do it please do it if you can't a comment and a like that helps very much also so thank you very much all right let's move on to this story you got to talk about this all right from comicbook movie dot com DC Studios James Gunn names three DCEU actors who will be part of the new DCU. DC Studio CEO, CEO James Gunn attempts to better explain the DCU reboot have only caused further confusion. But the filmmaker and executive has named at least three DCEU actors, characters who will return. When Warner Brothers Discovery announced the formation of DC Studios, fans were understandably excited. Gunn and Saffron later unveiled an exciting slate of movies and TV.
Starting point is 00:24:20 shows revolving around characters like Superman, Green Lantern, Swamp Thing, and it's fair to say a reboot is long overdue. The DCEU has been running on fumes for a while, in the past 18 months or so have been an utter disaster thanks to critical and commercial flops like Black Adam and The Flash. Unfortunately, this relaunch isn't exactly the full-blown reboot most wanted and Gunn's recent attempts to clear up the confusion they haven't worked. It appears that the DCU will be an odd amalgamation of past actors, storylines, but also a fresh star where some familiar face. are joined by a number of new ones. Why isn't DC Studio starting from scratch?
Starting point is 00:24:54 Some cynical fans believe its gunn wants to ensure his friends keep their jobs, though we'd say it's more likely he and Saffron just don't want to lose top-tier talents who have made a noteworthy impact with their respective characters. In the meantime, the filmmaker has confirmed that at least three DC-EU actors will be sticking around. John Cena's peacemaker, Viola Davis's Amanda Waller, and Blue Beetle star Sholo Medellano, as Jaime Reyes. This isn't hugely surprising as it lines up with what we've heard. Sina played his character in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker,
Starting point is 00:25:25 two projects who also starred Davis, who made her DCU debut way back in 2016 Suicide Squad, and while Blue Beetle wasn't a box office hit, the movie received positive reviews, and we bet on Mediduania showing up in booster gold. What about Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn? Your guest is as good as ours. Gunn has also offered up his take on shared universes,
Starting point is 00:25:45 and those are you expecting DC's version of the MC. you when Superman legacy rolls around might be disappointed. If you think of anything as investing time and effort, no matter what shared universe you shouldn't be. Every story should be enjoyed and worth partaking in and on itself without its attachment to an outside world. If it feels like homework, screw it. Shared universe should add fun to the individual stories, not the other way around. The individual stories and characters are much more important to me than the connections between them. Gun's approach to building this universe isn't what we expected, but it's far too soon to say if it's going to be a good or bad thing.
Starting point is 00:26:18 Yeah, this isn't, this isn't great, I don't think, because I kind of think, like, the excuse of, not the excuse, but their reasoning was like some people think it's to ensure that his friends have jobs. The others are, well, it's because they want to continue good performances with these characters. Both horrible reasons. I think it's both. Yeah. I think it's both. I think it's absolutely he wants to make sure that his friends still have gigs and he likes them and wants to make sure that they're, oh yeah, okay. John Cena has, we're just fine in the rhythm of this character.
Starting point is 00:26:51 And he's done so much stuff to take him out would be horrible. And, I mean, look, Vaila Davis is a next level actress. I mean, she's just next level. I think the only one that you need to save out of the three of them. And I love Peacemaker. I was before the boys, I mean, I still, Peacemaker Season 1, I prefer season 1 of Peacemaker over season 3 of the boys. boys, but overall I like the boys better.
Starting point is 00:27:20 But I think the only person you save is Sholo, and it has nothing to do that he's been in the studio. It's got nothing to do it. The reason why is because if you saw, you didn't see Blue Beetle yet. No. Blue Beetle to me stands alone as a movie
Starting point is 00:27:35 that does not even necessarily need to, it doesn't even connect into the DCU. He doesn't even, I mean, he mentions Superman, he mentions Batman, they mention characters, but nothing too clear that it ties into this old DCU stuff. So it's like, okay, this is that Blue Beetle movie
Starting point is 00:27:52 and this character transfers over into the new one. You can make that work. Velo Davis, as Amanda Waller, has been in many things inside of that. And so has, and John Cena has been connected to that universe also. I think it is a mistake to not just reset it, the same way that I said it was a mistake when they were going to keep Wonder Woman around.
Starting point is 00:28:15 It's just rebooted. And this stuff with the shared, universe, he's taken as a different approach and doesn't want to stay because he wants to be different than Marvel. I don't know, man. He needs it. The Superman movie needs to be a hit. Oh, God, yeah. I mean, with all this has been going on, and I honestly, like, I think I agree with you that it either reboot at all or none of it, you know, like. Yeah, and we're already far past then, none of it. Yeah, yeah. I mean, you've already taken out a huge, I mean, Superman alone. Cavill was the big one. And then there was the one, there's another report.
Starting point is 00:28:47 recently that the Gal Gadot thing is hilarious. It's like, I'm coming back. They made a promise. He said, I'm coming back. No one ever said that. Yeah. And then it's like, oh, a little thing, that's not going to happen. And then there's another report that she is coming back. So that, but he said in that tweet, this is confirmed by Gunn himself,
Starting point is 00:29:03 that those three characters are coming back. It's like, it's like the first real kind of confirmation overall. We kind of heard that Sholo was coming back. They already kind of had announced that. And the peacemaker thing, and we knew Amanda Waller was getting, but I think if you're going to play with this, like, do you know what the elseworlds thing is?
Starting point is 00:29:19 No. Elsworlds is essentially like, you know, the Batman is the Robert Pattinson one and then Joker that they have, it's not connected to this other stuff that they're working on. Just make this stuff that too. And it's like when you're reading a particular comic book and it goes down one, you're in one storyline and then there's another storyline or angle happening on a different line. It's like just let it be that. Let it be its own thing.
Starting point is 00:29:44 Yeah, let it be its own thing. this is too, it's, it's too confusing. And I think that, I, I'm surprised that gun doesn't realize that. And I think that it's because he's going to say, he's just going to figure out a way to, how do you put, how do you put like a John Cena piecemaker and connect it into Superman? I guess that the same, if you're doing the kind of Boy Scout Superman that people know,
Starting point is 00:30:09 but I guess the same can be said about, well, you're going to put Deadpool in the MCU. Yeah. I don't know, man. I think I as an outsider, you know, someone who's not as, um, a casual fan, I should say more so. Do you, do you find this confusing at all? Let's say you weren't on this show and you didn't know any of this stuff. Like what would what would you see?
Starting point is 00:30:30 You just see like, okay, this is another superhero movie coming out. Like how do you, how do you look at it? Well, if it's, again, if it's, if, if I was super casual, I wouldn't, I don't know if I'd even have seen piecemaker. You know, that's kind of not one that I don't think of the regular, because it was a show. It did well, though. It did really well. Oh, I loved it. And I honestly don't see anybody else playing it.
Starting point is 00:30:54 You know, like, it's one of those ones where I'm like, oh, he does it so well. That one makes sense to me to stick around. But again, it made sense that Cavill would stick around and Godot would stick around too. I know. And it's like, well, look, if you're going to, we've been saying that since the beginning here, is that if you're going to go ahead and say, no, we're moving forward away from, Cabell, I understand the reasoning. I do. I get it. But I would have loved to see another movie with Henry Cowbell. I love it.
Starting point is 00:31:21 But I get where you want to go, but it's at that same point. You've got to just say, okay, we made that choice. Got to continue it down the line. And it doesn't matter how close you became with John Cena. I know how much you want to write season two of Peacemaker. But you made that choice. So it's a weird thing. I don't know how he's got he's got a lot. I mean, the real DCU doesn't really, it starts to get going in 2005. Because you've got Aquaman. Did you see the first Aquaman? Did you like it?
Starting point is 00:31:53 Yeah. Are you going to see the second one in the theater? Probably not in the theater, but that, you know, you know, man. What gets you to the theater? What would get you and besides just me taking you on screen? Well, that was that. What would if like you and Lonnie, if it's like, okay, we've got to see this in the theater. God, it's been so long since that's been a priority.
Starting point is 00:32:14 She doesn't give a shit about it. Yeah, I don't. Yeah, it's, I mean, we have a nice. My wife doesn't care about the TV. Television at home and, yeah, like we get a pee and eat our snacks. You got to watch Dune. I can't believe you haven't seen too. Yeah, that one's, you know, again, we don't watch movies.
Starting point is 00:32:28 We just watch four hours of TV. Toughie. Toughie. What is, I'm sure you don't watch The Bachelor in Paradise anymore. No, we quit that one. Yeah. Yeah, because that, the regular show I can't watch, but I always watched, my wife will watch all of it.
Starting point is 00:32:44 I'll watch the first like three episodes as they come out of Bachelor in Paradise because it's a car crash. Oh yeah. And it's very entertaining. I did move. That was our last. That's the only one. Out was that we would do, you know, we did it for a while. We just do, you know, we did the whole bachelor, but then we just do a first couple, meet him, the guys, see a couple dumb, you know, people dress up like squirrels and stuff.
Starting point is 00:33:05 Right. And then, you know, but then, yeah, not love island. That's a totally different. I haven't seen that one. Who knows? But what I'm hoping, I guess we can transition to this, is that Roxy, people are going to say, Roxy's not on the show. Roxy doesn't show.
Starting point is 00:33:18 Well, Roxy's out of town right now for sure, but I don't think Roxy will be back on the show until we are able to get this, the Sag Strike done, right? Because we just need to talk about topics like this. And I respect, and Roxy, you know, as we've talked about this, I respect Roxy's decision. She's just not talking about this stuff right now. However, with the writer's strike done. Do you think the sack strike's going to be... When do you think now that the sack strikes can be over?
Starting point is 00:33:47 Well, it's tough because I felt like it became, you know, like us against them with writers and actors. That now it's, you know, now... Well, it's kind of the beginning. Didn't the directors take a deal right away? Just took a deal right away. Well, the writers want to strike first, and then directors took a deal. Is that what happened? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:05 I think that they immediately took whatever deal was... And so then it was like, oh, we're on our own again. but then actors like then the actors joined in and now it's the actors on their own so I don't know I mean you're gonna you know the thing is you can't make television or film without any of these people so you know eventually something has to end and it either ends with a deal that you know you really wanted or something that you're settling for and I think a lot of times you know they settle with the best they can get because I think these these big companies always win you know but but that's not what happened with the writers did you see this deal no I haven't seen
Starting point is 00:34:39 the deal. Oh, dude, the deal was, the, the, the writers won. That's awesome. They got, the, one of the main, one of the main things inside of this deal is that for the longest time, they would, and, and this is one of the biggest sticking points is that the streamers, like, we're not releasing our numbers. Well, they're releasing their numbers, and they're giving them residuals. That's awesome. So, like, that, like, that was one of the things that, oh, they never get that. Oh, dude, their deal was, was extraordinary. There needs to be a company that, because I don't think, I think that, a friend of mine that does commercials told me, that like the production companies are in charge of telling you how many,
Starting point is 00:35:14 when they pay you, they're in charge of calculating how many times it's run, which it shouldn't be on that person. It should be a separate company saying like, oh, you ran this commercial. There's got to be some way to monitor this that is a company on its own that does this. It's a streaming thing, right? So it's like, like, I think there should be a thing for the audience also that should see it where it's like the same way you look at this video.
Starting point is 00:35:36 Yeah. You see this video. You see many people watch it. team of people who liked it. You see, do the same thing. But don't keep it up there when you're watching the show. If you, if you want to reveal it, it's like audience. You click the audience button, you go, oh, wow, six million people, 27 million people who watch this.
Starting point is 00:35:52 That would be interesting. But I mean, but nonetheless, what you were saying is that they, the studios put themselves in a corner. And this is why they lost this fight, as we said, because they fought so hard and were so stubborn and we're trying to basically bleed the writers out that they got to the place where the way that I think it went down is that they were like, okay, we're screwed here. We're screwed. We have to figure this all out. And the first thing that we're going to have to do is we've got to settle the writers first. They've been striking longer. We've got to get this deal settled because once we get this deal settled, the actors will be able to blueprint off
Starting point is 00:36:33 of that and we'll be able to settle this quick. Because I think to them, and they'll never say this, obviously they're going to say both strikes were. I think to them figuring out the writers, the actors were more important to the studios. That's what I think. I think that they, even from the disrespect that they gave the writers and behind the scenes,
Starting point is 00:36:49 conversations and everything too, but with the actors, you know, as you said, you can't promote anything with it, you can't do anything. Like, when the writer strike was going on, had they figured out SAG, this writer strike would still be going on.
Starting point is 00:37:02 Yeah. Had they figured out those SAG contracts, this writer strike was still be going on. because they could still promote movies. People were still filming stuff and all that. But SAG and WGA, rightfully so, banded together. They fought for what they needed to do.
Starting point is 00:37:20 Writers win, and now SAG's going to win. And I think it's going to happen. I think we'll be done. I think we'll get a deal done by mid-October. I think people will be back to work by November 1st. Yeah, I'm, again, I don't know the details of it. obviously explained by me not knowing they got a good deal. But I just think it's, I don't understand why this went on so long and why they thought they
Starting point is 00:37:48 wouldn't give up. Like you're talking about that you've got a group of people, actors and writers who, you know, have spent most of their lives, you know, sharing five bedroom apartments with eight people living in their cars and changing. Like these people won't, don't leave you alone. Like these are people that have spent their whole life chasing their dream. through lots of downs and you think you're going to muscle them out? No, and I think that that's ultimately what happened.
Starting point is 00:38:13 But the first answer, the reason why, I think it went on like five and a half months. It went on for three months because that's what the studios were planning for. Yeah, I remember that. They were planning to save money. Everyone knew it was going to go until like July or August. Everybody knew that because it was going to go on because they could save money. They can cut costs. They can do that.
Starting point is 00:38:30 And then once SAG started coming, they were losing money and it backfired. on them and then like we got to figure it out and they tried to have that one that ridiculous deal at first that they tried to still look how great this deal is like this deal sucks and then that deal just kind of blew up in their face so now the AMPQR SWX YZ is going to meet with with SAG and hopefully that gets resolved pretty quick and then then you're going to start getting more news because the question is going to be because they want to get it done because especially Warner Brothers they want to be able to promote Wonka they want to be able to promote
Starting point is 00:39:06 um aquaman and and then because dune already got pushed dune got pushed dune was supposed to come out i think like october and now dune is coming out dune two i think it's coming out like february or march of next year that's the goal and they were always i'm just remember there was uh we're on the verge of uh like uh gaming video game yeah so that's so they're gonna which i mean if if the actors and the riders go out i feel bad because this is gonna they're not gonna have them on their own yeah they're gonna be on their own for that i think it's gonna be a harder deal for them to get. But yeah, I mean, it's
Starting point is 00:39:39 this, but still, it's still going to, it's, it's just, it's just, it's too bad the whole, you know, the actors, writers, you know, video, everything, voiceover, like the whole thing. Yeah. All this year. If we all couldn't have just gotten together and then just strong armed
Starting point is 00:39:57 the, you know, well, I mean, they strong. Amp. The AMP. The MP. They, I mean, they, they did, they did that. And I think that's the reason they're getting the deal that. they're getting is because they held strong the whole entire time. I still, like I said, I think I'm so glad the writers got what they got.
Starting point is 00:40:15 I think they deserved it. I think the fact that they, the fact that they weren't getting residuals was. Yeah, that's wild. Crazy. I mean, that's how actors would kind of overall make their money in the fact that it is their likeness that is out there and they are the ones doing. Like, I'm so glad that got taken care of because it should have. And the same thing, well, well, for writers, writers get the residuals.
Starting point is 00:40:34 We don't know if the actors are going to residuals. We assume that they will. But all these deals that are just in place now, I think that it's, I don't know, it's, it worked out, it worked out hopefully for the best. Yeah. And we'll see, well, you know, we're going to be busy, though, because, you know, there's going to be once, Jeff Snyder brought it up on the hot mic with Rocha. And they, they were talking about the amount of stories that are going to be coming out. Oh, yeah. Like the casting, I'm thinking we're going to probably get.
Starting point is 00:41:07 some more interviews and stuff. But that was how we started all this was then in Roxy. I want to get Roxy back in doing our TV reviews. So I think we're there. I think that once we get to like, I think from November until, who knows? November and the most of 2024, it's just going to be like, because usually January is like a slow point. Yeah. It gets Christmas time and the holidays.
Starting point is 00:41:29 And that's usually when the... That's when Hallmark gets their money, boy. But they rammed, it ramps up. It ramps up. But now, because of everything, it gets... pushed and all the news and all the different and the awards and everything. I think January and February is going to be like slammed. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:44 But I don't know. What did you guys think about all this stuff, man? Do you think that if you read the deal as far as what the writers got? The Dealy dealie Dealio. Did you check it out? What'd you think? Do you think it's a good deal? Do you think it was a bad deal?
Starting point is 00:41:56 Do you think it was a sweet deal? Go ahead and comment. Tell me exactly what you think about it. So make sure if you're able to and you want somebody to talk to, check out Better Help, links to the description, like all of our sponsors. All right, Brett, I want to move over to this Scorsese story. I guess we should talk about this part of it, too. I mean, Scraese now knows.
Starting point is 00:43:53 It's part of his brand now to kind of take shots at the big franchise and everything, too. He gets him because he knows. He is a very, very smart man. when he's got a new movie coming out, he always takes a crack at Marvel movies and he takes a crack at everything because what happens? Everybody starts talking about it
Starting point is 00:44:09 and somebody recently just said to me, oh, I heard, I can't remember who said it, but they go, Scorsese just took a crack of Marvel movies. He must have a movie coming out. Oh, of course. I was like, he's got a movie coming out. Like, oh, okay. So he was doing press for it,
Starting point is 00:44:23 and this is from Garth Franklin. A massive new profile feature has gone up at GQ speaking with Martin Scraese and covering a range. of topics. By far, though, the already most discussed element coming out of the interview this morning is his stance on comic book and franchise culture. Scorsese has poked at length about the state of movie going in the past, famously stating around this time four years ago that Marvel movies are not cinema. When asked about the blockbuster franchise over all these, not
Starting point is 00:44:48 superhero film, Scorsese says the dominance of the market could be negative to audiences. He says the danger is what is doing to our culture because they're going to be generations now that think movies are only those and that's what movies are. They already think that, which means that they have to then fight back stronger. And it's got to come from the grassroots level. It's got to come from the filmmakers themselves. And you have to know the Sadfrey brothers, and you have to know Chris Nolan. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:45:13 And hit him from all sides. Hit him from all sides and don't give up. Let's see what you got. But go out there and do it. Go reinvent. Don't complain about it. It's true because we've got to save cinema. Yeah, look, this is a guy who loves movies, loves the old-school wave of things.
Starting point is 00:45:28 And it's a different business these days. just a different business. What he doesn't mention inside of that and he might very well in that report and read the whole thing. Streaming. Streaming changed it also. Oh, of course. People do go to the movies for, look, I'm getting tired of a lot of the comic book stuff too.
Starting point is 00:45:45 I love Guardians. I really, I enjoyed watching Blue Beetle, but I thought a lot of it was there was a lot of generic stuff too. And I love the idea that there are other movies that are like, I love that Oppenheimer did really well. I love that, I love that it's switching up. So I feel him on that it shouldn't be just one particular genre.
Starting point is 00:46:04 But streaming also changes stuff. Streaming, you can watch certain movies, really good movies on streaming. Now, what do you just say 20 minutes ago? You don't even go to the movies anymore. You watch stuff on TV. Yeah, when we would, when VHS came out, like, it would take forever for stuff to, like,
Starting point is 00:46:21 now we get stuff really fast. I'm not like, oh, you know, oh, shoot, I'm missing in the theater. I guess I'll have to wait a year. you know, like, no, it comes out so fast. And I think that was a detriment. I totally agree. That's a detriment to people go into live theater.
Starting point is 00:46:40 Yeah, for sure. It's not live theater. No, but I know what you mean, but going to the theater. But finally, Scorsese, the birth guy got out of here. So finally, Scorsese also talks about the departed sequel and his future. It's the best. I just watched that movie recently. It just looks so funny.
Starting point is 00:46:56 Yeah. Following on from his comments about blockbusters and franchises, The other big reveal to come out of the recent profile is that Martin Scrossez he ties back to one of the film he won a directing Oscar for The Departed. It's considered one of his better films and certainly one of his most widely appealed. The Boston Set Crime Thriller starring Matt Damon and Leonardo Caprio
Starting point is 00:47:15 as criminal undercover as a cop and a cop undercover as a criminally respectively. Each attempts to discover the other's identity before they are found out. It was based on the famed 2002 Hong Kong Frile Thriller and Fernerner Affernal Affairs, which itself generated two further films, a prequel and a semi-prequel, semi-sequel as one of the two main characters dies at the end of the first film. With The Departed, it ends quite definitively with both characters dead. Yet, according to Scorsese, if Warner Brothers Pictures had it its way, then both would have been kept alive and the film could have launched sequels. Scorsese says what they wanted was a franchise.
Starting point is 00:47:48 It wasn't a moral issue of a person living or dying. The film went to test greetings with Scorsese's film version with the characters dying and the audience reaction was great. Everyone was happy except the studio executives. then the studio guys walked out of the test screening and they were sad because they just didn't want that movie. They wanted the franchise, which means I can't work here anymore. In an interview, Scraesezzi has also said to have a couple of films in development, something called Home, which he was working on with Tar director, Todd Field. As for the potential retirement, Scorsese jokes that he plans to continue making movies until they pick me up off the floor. His new movie comes out on October 20th.
Starting point is 00:48:21 Look, man, it's Martin Scorsese. So he's also in his close to 80 years old. He's going to be making movies as long as he wants to. I don't really get as worked up as everybody else does when he takes shots at these other movies and things that, whether it's Star Wars or whatever it is. It's like getting mad at your grandpa. Of course. It's so silly. And it's not hurting the movies.
Starting point is 00:48:45 You know, I mean, it's not, you know, it's one person's opinion. And like you said, he's getting his name in the paper. He does it every time. Yeah. Do you think this is a marketing ploy, guys? What do you think? Do you think that now he knows that the amount of attention that he got from it the last 400 times that he took shot at comic book movies that he knows that he's going to get himself in the news cycle and then he'll get more publicity for his movie. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:49:10 What do you think of any of the things we talked about here today? Make sure you comment. Let me know. Brett Sheridan, what are you working on? Oh, everything, man. Okay, good. Six, seven, eight of them. Okay, good.
Starting point is 00:49:20 We're going on BubboardTV.com. Check out of the videos we're making over there. And I'm here once a week, sometimes too, if we're lucky, because I am the best person on this channel. That's true. It's actually aboveboard TV on YouTube also, not just the dot com. Starting point is 00:49:38 But I'll tell you, Matt Serra, former UFC Walter Ray Champion of the World. I was on his show. And we were talking about Big Thing, and he goes, who's that guy you got on the comedian guy that's always on with you? Brett, I go get Brady. I like that guy. He's not bad. Nice. And he likes Roxy too.
Starting point is 00:49:55 All right. Thank you, guys. Appreciate you. Thanks for tuning in. If you haven't already done it, hit that button. All right, get out of here. Go have some eggs.
