Starting point is 00:00:00 What's going on, everybody? A little late of an episode on a Monday here for Big Thing, whether you're listening to it on podcast form or obviously watching on YouTube. We had a House of the Dragon, the Penultimate episode. So we did a full spoiler review. That's on the channel right now. I had an opportunity to see the first six episodes, or the only six episodes, of Tales of the Jedi,
Starting point is 00:00:24 the new animated Star Wars series, which I did my immediate reaction to. There's an embargo on the full review. so I just did my immediate reaction so forth. So that's why I was going to put on a little bit of an earlier show today on Big Thing. But I was like, no, man, I got to get these two things out there first. And I did. So there's a lot to talk about today, for short. We have the new images from Creed.
Starting point is 00:00:44 Obviously, if you saw the thumbnail and everything too, and what we think the movie's going to be. And the fact, I didn't even realize that Majors was in this. I don't know why I didn't think that. Maybe it was announced that I wasn't. as aware of him as I am now. I say with him as Kang. It's a bigger selling point for me,
Starting point is 00:01:03 but we'll talk about that for sure. There's Halloween did, okay, did fine. Black Adam was very close to getting a rated R. So we'll talk about that for sure. And what else? A few other things that hit. I mean, we'll talk a little bit about House to the Dragon.
Starting point is 00:01:24 House of the Dragon for sure. Brendan Fraser was talking about jamming up traffic back with the Georgia in the jungle days and how beloved he is right now. Speaking of Halloween, David Gordon Green is going to be doing the exorcist now. Is that a smart move? I don't know. We'll talk about that as well.
Starting point is 00:01:41 So there's a lot. And a first look at Ralphie coming back for Christmas story. So I'm pretty excited about that. I'm also excited for this. Finally, you guys have been asking me forever. When are we going to have merch up? When are we going to have merch up? Well, our friends over at Tea Public.
Starting point is 00:02:00 who we used to work with back in the day for Shmodown, we're back with them again, and we're doing stuff with them, and they already have two designs up right now. And to be honest, by the time this goes up, there might be more designs. Sith Council, big thing,
Starting point is 00:02:14 a few other designs, the old Shmodown design, they're all going up there, like ASAP. It's just the matter of me getting to it. It's either going to be today or tomorrow, but I'm hoping today. But if you see it on there,
Starting point is 00:02:26 you get like two or three days for it to be on sale. but go ahead and check it out, man, because they're really good stuff. I'm going to be getting a bunch of the hoodies. The hoodies, by the way, that's this show. This show is the big thing. The hoodies are ones that I still have. I have tons of them from the old days,
Starting point is 00:02:40 and I'm going to be getting a bunch of new ones. My wife this morning was like, I won't want it. Which one do you want? She's like, show some class. Yeah, so show some classes starting to sell pretty well right now. So head on over there, check it out. If you haven't done it already, Patreon, I've been meeting so many of you guys.
Starting point is 00:02:55 I have this tier right now where if you, there's only like limited spaces, but I have people sign up monthly and I talk to about, I get one-on-one sessions with people for about a half an hour. It's been awesome. I met some really cool people, really great people. So check that out. There's other, I mean, there's other great things too. We have the rewatches. We have exclusive footage, Shmo's reviews, a bunch of stuff. And then last, but certainly not least. The Big Thing podcast is on Spotify. And it's very important. very, very, very, very important.
Starting point is 00:03:31 If you haven't already done it and you haven't signed up, please do it. Follow us over there. It helps tremendously, helps keep us on the air. All right, we have so much to talk about. Very excited to do it. Very excited to talk about it with you guys. Let's do it. Let's get into it.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Let's talk. What's going on, everybody? Welcome back. I hope everybody's doing good. I'll be driving in the car right now. Do you really care? I do care. especially about you right now you driving in the car taking your kids to school
Starting point is 00:04:09 the way back from dropping your kids off driving around the town getting yourself some drive-through at the gym watching from the computer care about you really do I realize that more so as I'm talking to you not only talking you guys in the comments but really getting to meet a lot of yet great conversation with this guy today Mike on the Patreon about a half an hour conversation with this dude. We just talked about stand-up comedy. And a lot of friends in common.
Starting point is 00:04:42 I remember bullshit and he kind of took me back to those days, man. Steve Simone, my buddy. Stevie Simone. Steve Simone's a big Rocky fan. I used to talk about it. I had my idea for the Creed Apollo Creed prequel. Steve Simone's like one of the first guys I told about that. He loved it.
Starting point is 00:05:02 He still brings it up to me. But I bring that up because of the obvious transition I would go into that. And that would be Creed 3, man. Creed 3. It's coming out. It's coming out. It got pushed back. It was supposed to come out this year.
Starting point is 00:05:21 And now it's coming out sooner than later. I think March is when it comes out. And it's the third movie. Michael B. Jordan's directing this one. He takes over after, um, just starring in the first two. So MGM as prepared, prepared, yeah, premiered, the first poster for the third entry into the Creed film series,
Starting point is 00:05:44 which opens on March 3rd, 2023. The project, this is from Dark Horizons, by the way, the project, the first Rocky film without the presence of Vester Stallone, sees Michael B. Jordan returning not just as Adonis Cree, but also making the directorial debut. Other returnees include Tessa Thompson as Adonis' girlfriend, Bianca, and Felicia Rosson as his stepmother, Mary Ann while Jonathan Majors
Starting point is 00:06:07 was John I see cited Jonathan Majors is in this will play the new antagonist Anderson Dame it's a pretty great name good Rocky name Anderson Dame and I like that it's an actor I like that it's an actor and not a boxer this time I gotta be honest with you talk about that in the second other returnees
Starting point is 00:06:24 include Tessa Thompson as Adonis's girlfriend we said that already Jordan and Majors can both be seen in the one sheets arriving ahead of a potential first trailer in the coming days we'll be reacting to that one Majors also recently did a cover story for men's health magazine showing off an incredible body he worked on for the film, saying his character built such a body for a specific reason. There are certain reasons you build up your body. Deams' body was built from loss.
Starting point is 00:06:47 He had lost something, and that whole is what made him work the way he worked. When you see Deam's body, you go, oh, that makes sense. You don't look like that and be happy with life. The full story for the magazine can be found here. Okay. Lots in here that I like. let's start with the obvious thing that I've talked about on this show people have been talking about in general it's going to be noticeable that Stallone's not there
Starting point is 00:07:10 and it's not one of these things where he's he hasn't done this hey I wish him luck have a great time maybe he did this originally but not over the last couple of months and um you know I hope you make a great movie without me just my time is done now it seemed like that was what it was in the beginning and it seemed like he was just like no I don't want to do it more, but thanks guys, and have a blast. That's what I, that's what I thought was happening. And then, you know, Adonis said as much as they wanted to tell the Adonis, Michael B. Jordan said as much they wanted to tell the Adonis story. And so they're kind of moving forward and going on and telling the story that way. Then the Frank Stallone post comes out. And Frank Stallone says that
Starting point is 00:07:54 Stallone's been shafted and kind of pushed to the side of Michael B. Jordan is partially the blame for it. And don't believe this guy and this and then. and Sylvester Stallone likes the post. So that was like, what the hell's going on? And then Stallone goes just bananas on Irwin Winkler, the producer of the film, or many years, and goes after him, goes after his family, goes to everybody.
Starting point is 00:08:17 He got screwed out of the rights of Rocky, and this and that, or you kind of remind me of Dave Chappelle, stuff that was happening with Comedy Central. And then they also respond, and then the whole thing happened with, they announced like there was something going to happen with the Drago spin-off.
Starting point is 00:08:32 And then Stallone went off on that. Dahl Lundgren's like, I ain't doing anything without Sly. And all that drama played into it. So then I said the other day, I think I was talking about with Roxy on Big Day a couple of weeks ago. And I said, I don't know, man. I don't know if I'm going to be up for watching a Rocky movie without Stallone when he wanted to be in it and was not asked to be in it. there's reports that they asked him to be in him. You wanted too much.
Starting point is 00:09:04 I don't know what the story is. I have no idea. You know Michael B. Jordan's going to be asked about it during the press run in this thing. He's got to be asked about it. Someone's got to ask him about it unless all the publicists shut it down. It should be lame, which I could see happening. But I did not know that Jonathan Majors was in this movie. And your answer to that is, well, if you did your research, stupid, you probably would have realized it all you do look at IMDB.
Starting point is 00:09:27 I'm busy. But I see this poster, and that's kind of the point. point of the poster, right? You see the poster and you say, well, wait a minute. I mean, obviously, and Michael B. Jordan, talking about majors being jacked. Michael B. Jordan is jacked. He wasn't that big in the wire. Massive. But you see this coming. He kind of reminds me, is this his club or lang? I feel like this is going to be his club or laying. And I think this is a great So this movie comes out in March. He's going to have a big February in March.
Starting point is 00:10:05 So he's ready. He's got, he's got, what, Ant Man coming out in February. Ready had Loki come out. Loki. If you go back and watch Loki, he steals,
Starting point is 00:10:15 he chews up those scenes, man. You watch him in those. And then he's in, and then he's going to be, and I've seen the footage or the trailer anyway, the kind of extended trailer for Ant Man, and he looks terrifying in that. He looks really good in that.
Starting point is 00:10:29 And then he's in this now. and hearing his comments, this guy's had a big loss, everything, it kind of reminds me of like the clubberlang feel. So that, that, I mean, I love Michael B. Jordan. I really do. I've always been a big fan of Michael B. Jordan. I don't, it is going to be tough until you find out all the information with the Sloan thing.
Starting point is 00:10:56 But that aside, I've always been a fan of his. But there's something about Jonathan Majors. is a big draw. Big draw. I think that that's going to be something that I'm, I don't know why I didn't know that. Or like I said, maybe I didn't know that since he was cast.
Starting point is 00:11:13 But the trailer's going to be, the trailer's going to drop, we're going to learn more. Definitely a highly anticipated film for me. And I mentioned, you got this movie and John Wick and Dungeons and Dragons and like a couple, two or three other things in March that are just,
Starting point is 00:11:26 it's just stacked. I'm telling it. I was telling somebody the other day. We're just like, it's like, it's been slower. For a lot of YouTubers I was talking YouTube, it's been slower over the last couple of months, right?
Starting point is 00:11:39 In this space, not YouTube in general, but in this space. Slower. TV was good. You had four big shows running at the same time, but it's not the same. It's like when movies are out. Like even when the Black Adam, you know, I just saw a Black Adam the other day. And I put out a
Starting point is 00:11:57 immediate reaction for that. And it's the most kind of traffic and and new people we had come in for the show in a while. And it's because these things, they're based on movies. It's based on movies, the whole thing. Everything we do over here is based on movies. So it's starting to move and push,
Starting point is 00:12:15 and 2023 is going to be stacked. It'll be stacked. So much coming out. And, you know, entertainment in general, as I mentioned, if you couple that up with both Ant Man and the Mandalorian's also going to be on at that same time. And then from, I've mentioned a million times over, and you guys, now have you been listening long enough,
Starting point is 00:12:32 if you, and casual fans or in the space or just listen to this podcast, listen to it, you're going to know that 20, 23 is going to be a really big year. Start from like February until August, it's going to be stacked. Most stacked since like 2018, 2019. I'm building this up, but I'm just looking at the, I was looking at the release schedule, and I'm like, okay, I'm going to be busy. I mean, really busy, watching all this stuff. I mean, because, again, I set kind of a new mantra for myself that when I started doing my new channel,
Starting point is 00:13:00 it's got to be stuff I want to watch and stuff that I want to see and stuff I want to give a shot to and that's this. Oh, by the way, speaking of which, I'm getting a lot of comments about this. What happened, Lord of the Rings? Finale, no review. Review the last one, you review this one. So the last one, I didn't get a chance to finish. I did finish it, but I didn't get a chance to finish it in time.
Starting point is 00:13:21 And by the time I did, I was reviewing a whole bunch of things. Like, I'll just review that one in the finale. And then I still haven't watched the finale to this day. So I still haven't watched it. As I said, I like the show. I think the last few episodes have been really good. I just don't feel about this show the way I feel about Andor and, and House of the Dragon.
Starting point is 00:13:42 Well, you watched every episode of She-Hulk. She-Hulk was like 26 minutes. And, you know, I'd watch it right before we, and I had to watch for Caps and Cowls and stuff too, because I had stuff I had to talk about. Nobody else is talking to Lord of the Rings would be. I'm going to finish it, though. I am.
Starting point is 00:13:56 And I'll probably put the, and I know I'm going to take the hit on it. I'll watch it and I'll do the review on it and all you guys, because that's how it goes. You miss the space. You learned it. Back in the day, it was so different. You watch something. You put a review out.
Starting point is 00:14:09 It could be a five-year-old movie and people still like, oh, what do he thought about that one? I wonder what Mark and Christian thought about that one. I wonder what this person thought about that one. Single reviews. Oh, okay. Now it's not in the, people aren't talking about it now. And it's not even necessarily you guys being interested.
Starting point is 00:14:24 It's that it's algorithm, man. She's a, she's not, she's not. She's not nice. Sometimes she is. But you got to get it at the right time. You really got to hit it at the right time. It's a different game these days. But it doesn't mean I'm not going to watch the show. It's just a matter of whether or not I'm going to either do a review of it
Starting point is 00:14:43 or just talk about it on this show. That's the beauty of this show. This show, you can find something that people want to talk about. Like I figured everybody wanted to talk about that creed poster and the movie itself. And then maybe at another time, you know, I can throw the spoiler review of the Lord of the Rings in a big thing episode instead of trying to just give it its own single piece. What do you guys think?
Starting point is 00:15:05 That's the other thing. Leave your thoughts about this type of stuff, especially for Big Thing. If you're watching on YouTube, I value everybody's opinion very much so. It's been a lot of great conversation I've had with people over here. And most really, you know, there's a couple ball bags here and there that pop in, but that's the beat. I'm also not in a place where I want to keep people around who are, um, who are, not people who are who don't agree with you that's if you start talking people out who don't
Starting point is 00:15:35 agree with you and who give you criticisms well then then you just then he's got a thin skin um i push back 100% with people like we just like criticism no i i actually do like criticism when it comes in and people are saying things along the line of well look people there's one particular guy Corey you're a big fan of the show you say hey you know sometimes uh and i realize this even before he said it. I did a couple transitions for when we had my bookie. And I kept saying, I'd be like, I'd switch it up a little bit. He said, he's right. I was going to switch it up anyway. I haven't been on that one. That's not being a dick. That's a criticism. That's a guy who puts in a comment every single freaking video. People go, I don't know about that and maybe
Starting point is 00:16:18 that. But like, I saw some guy on the Black Adam review. But no, was it Black Adam? What the hell was it? Shit, no, it was Shee Hulk. Is She Hulk? Of course, we're a She-Hulk. And if you saw my last two reviews, you've been paying attention to this channel. I haven't liked the last, like, I mean, I think I had like three of the episodes. The rest of the show I really didn't like. And I said as much.
Starting point is 00:16:39 You know, people are loving the show. There are a lot of people who like the show, and I'm just, it's not working for me. I must have said that a thousand times. I'm not really loving this show. This guy in the comments, he goes, well, you say, don't like it. Just say it don't like it.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Who are you trying to? Where are you, where are you, pretending you like it. I said, I just said 87 times that I didn't like the show. Do you like it or not like it? Who cares? It's, it's, that was that particular. The same thing with, like, Lord of the Rings.
Starting point is 00:17:12 I think someone was like, oh, what's wrong? You don't want to talk about Lord of the Rings? I haven't watched the fucking thing yet. Everybody's looking for, to like, gotcha. Everybody's looking for that. But the criticism is not the same as, as that type of shit. That's the type of shit I don't love. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:17:31 I need a bubbly sponsorship. I'll tell you that. I drink a lot of bubbly. It's really good. I like it. How do you guys like it? I don't know if you like it at all. Anyway,
Starting point is 00:17:42 I had mentioned Black Adam. I mentioned Black Adam before. And, God, I don't know. So Black Adam is coming out. And there we go. Again, I can't
Starting point is 00:18:00 have a full review yet because the embargo doesn't drop until tomorrow, but I will be putting my review up tomorrow. Black Adam is out and they were going to, and the report is that the upcoming Black Adam film sports a considerable amount of violence, as unlike some superheroes of the DC universe, Twain Johnson's title character has no compunction about killing. The character uses his powers to impose this twisted vision of justice, which includes summarily executing any criminal,
Starting point is 00:18:30 leads to the Justice Society of America trying to stop him. Though it is rated PG-13, producer Hiram Garcia confirms to Collider that the sheer amount of slaughter in the narrative had the movie supporting an R-rating for most of its production time. We really wanted to make sure that we honor the character of Black Adam, one of the things he has known for is his aggressive and violence, and to do a Black Adam movie that didn't have that, just wouldn't have been authentic.
Starting point is 00:18:54 So we always went into this knowing that we were going to push it as far as we could. now producer beau Flynn added that it took four rounds with the mpaa to get the movie to a pg13 which only received which only received about a month ago in terms of what had to be edited out the film reportedly had almost twice as many scenes with johnson brutally killing an enemy we hope we see the deleted scenes of those we did have to make a lot of edits actually but we never compromised we never had to cut a scene you can't play it safe and you have to go for it and i think we have four or five those memorable moments at one point we had about ten and we were able to find some compromise with the MPAA on that.
Starting point is 00:19:30 Though the R-rated version won't hit cinemas, could have come to home video? Flynn said there are going to be some features where we could release it on home video and streaming. It should be great. Set to release in theaters in October 21st. Again, I can't review it. I can just give my initial reaction
Starting point is 00:19:45 of what I said. And what I will say is that it's very, like, they stick to, they go on with what the producer said, they stick to that. They stick to the idea of he is a full-on, ruthless killer. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:20:06 And there are a couple times really, wow, they're really going for it on this. My overall initial reaction, social reaction was that I had a lot of fun. But that's the other thing. Hey, you know, this guy, I can't say that he did that he didn't like it because I liked it. Holy shit. I liked it. It's a fun movie. It's overstylized, I thought, sometimes.
Starting point is 00:20:30 But I really liked it. It was fun. It reminded me like a late 90s movie. I don't think everybody's going to like it, but I think a lot of people are going to have fun with it. But we'll get more into the review tomorrow. I'm black at him. But the fact that I'd almost got a rated R, I could see.
Starting point is 00:20:43 I mean, there's, you can definitely tell in this movie, though, there was a lot of care that went into it, and they really wanted to, like, they cared about this movie. This wasn't just a cash grab. This wasn't just a movie for them to say, all right, let's just put a superhero movie out and do it. This is a movie that Dwayne Johnson really wanted to make and love and handled with the style
Starting point is 00:21:02 that he wanted to do and the story that they wanted to tell. And John McClette, Sarah, he's been buddies with shot Jungle Cruise with him. And so this is a movie that was handled with care. Definitely say that. So the fact that they went through these many rounds of the MPA doesn't surprise me at all. What does surprise me is that, I didn't know more about trade coffee that I do now.
Starting point is 00:21:32 Trade coffee. Man, I mean, you guys know, I'm a huge coffee fan. Like I've been, I talk about all the damn time. I have my own, I have my mug. I have a grumpy mug from seven dwarfs. Love it. It's really great. And the fact that I have, I've able to now get,

Starting point is 00:24:32 We've been getting, you guys have been really taking care of us. Why do I say that? Well, because like I said, when I decided to go on my own, you know, back in when we did S-E-N live, I had to figure out a way to keep everybody employed and do all that. We came up with this mobah, we came up with all that stuff, and you guys made your voices pretty clear, didn't like it. I don't like it. It works for what SCN is doing today,
Starting point is 00:25:02 but it doesn't work as the daily show all of the time, right? So we had to figure out a way to kind of overall do it, and whether it was with all the different things that we've had to do with, you know, YouTube, build and not making sure that we built up our subscribers to get the monetization to do all that. and also make sure that we got the sponsors that we like, that we love. And it's because of you guys, because you're subscribing, leaving comments, doing all that.
Starting point is 00:25:38 I mean, look, as you saw it on the bottom, Carbon Health. Carbon Health sponsors a show every Monday. We love them. And you know Carbon Health. You know all the locations across the country and they're able to, they really are so helpful when it comes to, you know, picking out, medical providers and being there for being there on the spot. When you have questions and the amount of to be able to take tests and doing things on a spot, and it's like that type of stuff.
Starting point is 00:26:11 The fact that we're able to work with such great sponsors right now, it's all because of you guys and the fact that you're listening. Yeah. And talking about my energy, my energy has been through the roof. Athletic Greens, trade coffee. I'm cooking. I'm cooking. All right.
Starting point is 00:26:27 Let's move, though. Let's keep going. We got next. The Black Adam. That one we did. All right. So what is the... I'm so excited.
Starting point is 00:26:38 I keep seeing this freaking... Keep seeing Creed. I'm like, all right, more. All right, let's talk about this. There's a lot of talk about this day-in release of a movie. And people think that Halloween suffered from that, right? The release in the theater, release it on... peacock at the same time and it could
Starting point is 00:27:00 it could screw you. Oh, you know what? I'm going to come back to this because there's a new story that just came out. Cavill is talking Superman. Cavill and a writer wanted for new Superman. Okay, let's do this. Let's do this first.
Starting point is 00:27:17 And then we'll get to, um, get to another one. Hold on a second. But there he is. Okay. Here is the, here's the story. by Garth Franklin.
Starting point is 00:27:33 It just came in. Hell, I may even lead with this one, depending on what it is. Warner Brothers reportedly has an intense desire for Henry Cavill's iteration of Superman to come back for a new project. Let me follow that up with no shit. The news was revealed in a new feature piece in The Hollywood Reporter, which goes into the future of D.C. The Superman Project would essentially be a Man of Steel sequel,
Starting point is 00:27:56 and it's being produced by Charles Rovin. Writers are currently being sought for the project, with Christopher McCrory, who worked with Cavill on 2018's Mission Impossible Fallout at the top of the most wanted list. Let's call it what it is. He's going to get it. I bet the bank, Macquarie's going to get it. Come on. Macquarie wants it. He's going to get it. No official outreach has been made at this time. McCoy's commitments to the next two Mission Impossible films might not make it feasible.
Starting point is 00:28:20 Okay. Well, there you go. The trade also confirmed reports that Dwayne Johnson is definitely at the center of Cavill's return to D.C. The idea of Cavill returning for a black Adam came out earlier this year. However, outgoing executive Walter Hamada nixed it as he had his own Superman plans, the Tanishi Cote's pen multi-decade spanning story with a black Superman. After that, Johnson went around the executive, went around the executive. Interesting. And talked to a new Warner's Chiefs Michael Deluca and Pam Abdi,
Starting point is 00:28:57 who gave it the thumbs up. Negotiations got underway before Labor Day and the scene was shot in mid-September. Wow. That's a pretty big story. I might actually lead with this for the thumbnail. Wow. Well, that's some big details.
Starting point is 00:29:17 What's the big details then? I mean, okay. So there was all those reports that JJ Abrams was going to do a Superman movie and I think that was the Superman movie that they were going to do. They were going to do all these things, and then there was big pitches outside. And there was rumors that one of the main reasons they didn't want to do Henry Cavill.
Starting point is 00:29:37 It was too attached to Snyder and the beef that Snyder was having with the executives over at Warner Brothers and all of that. So they wanted to just wipe their hands of it and move past it. Dwayne Johnson apparently really wanted Henry Cavill. So he's told Hamada to eat it and walked around. his office and got it done. So it really looks like Henry Cavill's coming back for multiple movies, which is the no shit.
Starting point is 00:30:19 That's what you should have done a long time ago answer. Like in the interviews, and this is where when you start to play into what the interviews that Dwayne Johnson has been giving on multiple outlets. The thing he said, he's listening to the fans. And he has done that throughout his career, right? The fans have won, and that's not just hyperbole.
Starting point is 00:30:45 This is, this is, the fans have wanted Henry Cavill back. I'm one of them. The fans have wanted him back as Superman. He's a great Superman. I still think Man of Steel is, I love Man of Steel. I know not everybody feels that way,
Starting point is 00:30:59 but I love that movie. but nobody really disagrees how great of a Superman he is I can't remember who said there recently oh I think Campia said it but I don't I don't he's still he's still to me the second best Superman but I understand
Starting point is 00:31:14 but that's my point people love him as Superman it's great Superman I think it was a massive mistake for them not to go Man of Steel 2 first before jumping into Batman be Superman and all this other stuff that they did but this kind of gives a chance to fire into that
Starting point is 00:31:30 and do a Manistile sequel with him. He said he wanted to place Superman for very long time and wanted to continue. He never said he was done with the role. Never in an interview was like, ah, it's, I'm past it. He's wanted to do it. Clearly, Hamada and all these other people didn't want to do it anymore. So they wanted to try to go in this new direction. This is the move.
Starting point is 00:31:54 This is the move. Look at the hype just around the potential of if he's going to show up in black at him. and everybody losing their minds. The fact that he was going to show, they thought he was going to show up at Comic-Con. People losing their minds. The fact that people thought he was going to be announced at the MCU during D-23, people were losing their minds.
Starting point is 00:32:13 People want to see Henry Cavill, and they definitely want to see him as Superman. So now the fact that the writers, they're going to be looking for writers pretty soon, you've got to get the right writers to do it. I think Dwayne Johnson, he's made it very clear that he wants to be in charge, here. And I think that this is going to be,
Starting point is 00:32:31 they're going to wait a little bit, even a little bit more now to see what Black Adam's going to do this weekend when it comes out. If this movie does well, like really well, like crushes for them, they're going to give Dwayne Johnson the keys to the castle. And they're going to go, okay, dude, do what you got to do.
Starting point is 00:32:47 You want to reboot the D.C. You want to do what you got to do. You want to run it with your vision. Go ahead, because he's been talking about that. And if he's, and if he's the one who's pushing it forward and getting all this stuff, to happen. But if it doesn't do very well and it just does okay, then they might not give them that much power. They're still going to do the Man of Steel movie. I think they'd be stupid not to.
Starting point is 00:33:13 But who knows? One brother has been making some stupid decisions lately, but maybe this is a way, this is kind of a good grace is back. Because, again, Black Adam does really well. Shazam looks pretty, I thought Shazam, the new one, looked pretty good, the trailer. The Flash is supposed to be incredible. Blue Beetle, to me, is one of my most anticipated. That's because Sholo is a buddy. And I think Sholo is a, is a massive star. So that one, and I'll be up front with it, too.
Starting point is 00:33:42 Like for that movie, you know, I'll give my immediate reaction, those things too. But, you know, it's one of those things where you're going to go, oh, how much can he actually critique that movie? I'm going to be looking at it with different eyes, obviously, because I'm rooting for that kid. I think he's, I just think he's a fantastic dude. but I love the story that they were telling him,
Starting point is 00:34:01 that he's telling me that they're going to do. Or he didn't necessarily say it inside of the interview, but he said what he was describing the comics, and it sounds interesting to me. But a couple with all that, the idea that Henry Cavill could come back. I don't know, man, they look like they're in pretty good shape right now. What do you guys think?
Starting point is 00:34:19 Go ahead and comment, tell me what you think down there. I think I'm going to leave with this one. Dwayne Johnson, I don't know. I don't know how I'd do it. I don't know how we do that. I don't know how we do that. I'll think about it before I put it up.
Starting point is 00:34:35 I'll do this a creed. I don't know yet. But good stories, nonetheless. Okay, so now we can probably get back to that other story then. If I was talking about that one. Yeah. So the day of release, they have this, they put it out in the theater,
Starting point is 00:34:56 and then they put it out at, on Peacock for Halloween. and it just did okay. Right. So, Freaky Filmmaker Blast Day and Date releases. In the wake of the opening weekend of Halloween ends coming in under expectations, the finger is now being pointed at the film's day and date release on Peacock as being partially to blame.
Starting point is 00:35:20 Now, Freaky Filmmaker, Christopher Landon, certainly thinks so. The director took to Twitter recently to Blast Studios adopted a day and date release strategy for films and citing ends as an example. I feel another rant coming on. Today, it's the day and date release strategy for Halloween ends. Stop doing this. Please, it does not work. Studios, stop gambling with filmmakers in their movies to try to pop up your fledgling streaming services.
Starting point is 00:35:44 London says the same thing happened to his Vince Vaughn led horror comedy back in late 2020. Well, wait a minute. Wait a minute. That's a different. Wait. We'll talk about it a second. That's silly to say that. The well-received film recently,
Starting point is 00:36:00 released right in the midst of the pandemic, made only $9 million at the box office because no one was going to the movies and was so quickly made available to stream just three weeks after it's released, London is still unhappy about it. This happened to me on Freaky, and it destroyed us. We worked so hard to make a fun movie.
Starting point is 00:36:17 Blood sweat and tears, months away from our families, and for what? They love to use the term, two bites of the apple, but that's just another way of saying we're going to use your movies as a guinea pick for our streaming service. I begged the studio not to do this.
Starting point is 00:36:29 Either circle the wagon and protect it for theatrical or just go all in on streaming. Don't split hairs. Okay. Okay. Okay. All right. Now he's got me on board. He closes out his posting by saying studio should honor the sanctity of the theater theatrical experience. Reaction to the post has been divided and the issue of Lynn's film hitting right in the
Starting point is 00:36:53 middle of the pandemic before the vaccines were in wide distribution and when plenty of cinemas were closed has understandably come back in multiple responses. That's where I was going with it, but it's what he said at the end, though, that I went, wait a minute, wait a minute. Despite the soft opening for Halloween ends, also driven in by part of the divisive reviews, the film still managed to have the biggest box office opening in months. It is currently playing in cinemas and available on Peacock Premium right now. Okay. There's a lot to talk about here.
Starting point is 00:37:24 Okay, so obviously, understandably, he's pissed off about his movie, not doing it. well, right? So what they said at the end there, call it what it is. The pandemic had a massive effect on the reason why your movie didn't do well in the theater. It was right in the height of it, as they said, there was no vaccines and all that stuff too. So it was right in the height of it, nobody was going in the theater. So that's why he didn't do well theatrically. Okay. You're the point, though, that he made that I go, okay, I hear what he's saying, either hold on it, don't release it until people are going back to the theater, wait, do what Top Gun did, release it now, wait until 2022, and put it out there, or just make it a streaming movie.
Starting point is 00:38:14 And that's all you do. Don't do both. What do you got? And the fact when he said, or make it a streaming movie, even though he said, you know, it was theatrical experience and all that stuff too, I think his situation is different. Then Halloween ends. Now, I don't think he has, I don't think his point is wrong, though. I have talked about it many times over.
Starting point is 00:38:38 I like the day in day release. I like it. I like it selfishly. I like it because of my family. I like it because if, not necessarily for Halloween ends, but if there's certain movies and stuff that come out the same day, that I can't go out and take the whole family to see, my wife and I can watch a new movie together
Starting point is 00:38:57 because we can't go out to the theater a lot. that's what I loved. And I loved it during the pandemic. I thought it was great during the pandemic because I wasn't going out and I wasn't doing that stuff. But that being said, on a business side,
Starting point is 00:39:12 as much as I selfishly would love for all the movies to come out of the same day in case I couldn't see them, I do think the 45-day window is a good plan in general. I think Top Gunn waited too long. But I understood. They wanted it to make, more money in the theater. So for a business side of things, I was surprised when they said that
Starting point is 00:39:36 they were doing the Peacock thing with Halloween. I think that what happened was because Halloween kills probably did very well for them on Peacock, as he says, I don't know how well Peacock is doing. It can't be holding up with the likes of HBO Max and Disney Plus and Netflix. So they got to do what they can to get people to chime in on it. Like for example, my sister-in-law, I think she watched it on Peacock. She didn't go out to the movie theater to see it. You know, a lot of people chimed out. I'd like to see what their numbers were on the streaming side of it.
Starting point is 00:40:07 But it definitely hurt the box office. There's no doubt about it. I don't think it was just the fact that it wasn't that good. There's a lot of shitty movies that aren't that good that people go out and see. I do think that because the last one, that's the other thing. The last one was not good. Some people liked it, but for the most part it was not good. So people are like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:40:31 That last one wasn't that good. I want to see how it ends. So I'm going to watch Halloween ends on Peacott. That's it. I'm telling you, that's definitely what happened. So I do think that it heard it for sure. Absolutely, I think that it heard it. But I don't agree with his blaming all of that for why his movie didn't do well.
Starting point is 00:40:54 From what I heard that, I still haven't seen that movie. When I heard that movie was awesome, his movie. I heard it was awesome. I haven't heard a bad thing about that movie. Freaky. But I heard like really good things about it. But when it landed, it was like right in the thick of it. So, you know, again, agreeing with what he said about pick and choose.
Starting point is 00:41:17 But when he's like, I was begging them not to do it, they were in a different spot back then, though. Very different spot back then. So that was a tricky one. His point is well taken now, but not necessarily for his movie, if that makes sense. So let's just talk about that then, Halloween. Where is it? Halloween, somewhere. Halloween ends debut soft at 41 mil.
Starting point is 00:41:48 But how much that movie costs to make is what I'm curious about? Where is it? Halloween ends. Okay, debut soft at $41 million. Halloween ends is the divisive final film in the recent revival trilogy, and it came in under expectations in its opening weekend at the box office. The film collected 41.2, 3,901 North American theaters in its opening weekend, down from the projected 50 to 55.
Starting point is 00:42:19 It's a significant down from what was projected. And the first film, opened above 40 million since NOPE debuted, to 44 million in July. Wait a minute. Is the first film to open about 40 million since Nope? In July? Is that true? What else is?
Starting point is 00:42:39 Did no other movies come out in? Oh, nope. I'm so confused. I was thinking of, uh, okay, that makes sense. Nope. I was thinking the other one, the one with that Bob Odenkirk. It was the one Bob Odenkirk that came out. I can't remember.
Starting point is 00:42:57 But that's what I was like, wait a minute, that was like, year, that was like a year ago. Nope, no commensile. Okay, that makes sense. Okay, so it made $40 million and nope did $44. Okay, it's thought the film's day and day release, nobody is the one I'm thinking of. It's thought the film's day and day release on Peacock ate into its box office returns,
Starting point is 00:43:18 which again, probably true. The film reportedly became Peacock's most watched series or film of all time over a two-day period, but Universal didn't offer any more data. That's the pick and choose right there, right? Do you, again, I have the habit of doing this, reading this and talking as I'm going through it. But internationally, the film made a further 17.7 million, leading to a global debut of 58.42.
Starting point is 00:43:41 Pretty good for a film with a budget of 33 million. Not so good was a terrible C-plus cinema score, the worst grade of the trilogy. The R-rated thriller Smile continued a strong run to the box office with 12.4 million, a 33% drop in its third week in a release. It gross 137 million worldwide, very good. for a film with 17 million budget. Lail Lyle L'Al, Kronkidale was started with 7.4,
Starting point is 00:44:05 34% down, woman king, and the stars out in Amsterdam. That's a terrible see. That movie. That's a movie that had no business being in the theater anymore. We're not living in that time anymore. That is a Netflix movie at this point. I hate to say it. Now, I would have gone to see that movie in the theater, regardless of talking about Amsterdam.
Starting point is 00:44:27 Love that cast. that is not a movie that is going to make you a lot of money these days. It's not my people who are going to the movies anymore. It just isn't. I don't care if you're a film fan. I don't care if I want to see it. Most people are not going to see that in the movie theaters. The game has changed dramatically.
Starting point is 00:44:43 It always changes. It changed even dramatically in the last three years. People are not going to the movies for those types of movies, especially when you can find movies like that, a dime a dozen on streaming now. You get really good quality. Back in the day, the streaming movies were not that. weren't that good. Now, you can find really great movies on streaming. You're not going to
Starting point is 00:45:04 the theater to see them unless it's a big experience. Doesn't surprise me. Halloween ends, they keep saying how disappointing it is. It made money. It made money. It was down from the project. I think that movie, I will say this. That movie is a success. It's made 56, whatever it was. The budget was 35 or whatever the hell they just said it was. And it made a profit on it. They'll continue to make a little bit more as the holiday season continues on. But the biggest thing, though, did the day of release hurt it being on Peacock? It did. But was it beneficial to them? It was. So is it a loss for them? No. They made money in the theater. So they lost a little bit of money, you know, with what was projected. They still made it up over the next couple of days. And then they
Starting point is 00:45:54 then they kicked ass on peacock. So was it a disappointment? I don't think so. It might have been the right strategy after all. I don't know. What do you guys think? Very curious to hear what you guys think of that one, because that one's fascinating to me.
Starting point is 00:46:09 Not sure. I don't know. Who's the one that always kills the... It's usually Jason that kills for the teenagers are always fucking, right? I think so. It's usually Jason. Jason's always, he always sees the teenagers banging and he kills him.
Starting point is 00:46:30 I don't know if he lets him finish or not, but the problem is they weren't using Joy Mode. They're using Joy Mode. They could have fought Jason off. Joy Mode. You know, Joy Mode? I mean, telling you about Joy Mode. It's great. It's really great. A lot of times you're, and I know that a lot of people have been standing,
Starting point is 00:46:46 you're standing around the, you're at that gas station, you look over, you see those packets. Oh, man, it's got those hard on pills. I'm going to get some of those. They're cheap. It's easy. those things at the gas station are terrible for you. So bad for you. You have no idea.
Starting point is 00:47:01 Even some of the stuff that's over the counter is bad for you. Joy mode? Joy mode's awesome. It's like a pre-workout for sex. It really is. It gives you that boost. Well, I don't have problems. It's not about having problems.
Starting point is 00:47:12 I'm telling you. It's about just getting, it's like a pre-workout. Do it. Sometimes you take the supplement. This time you take a supplement and you get excited. And you go all night. Not even on night. Just one shot, you're done.
Starting point is 00:47:27 You don't, like the other places, sometimes you have the four-hour hard on. You don't need it here. What happened? You do? You're excited? You're excited? You start the energy.
Starting point is 00:47:36 You start the booster, and you move. It does, though. It really, it is a dietary supplement. And it just, it's natural. It's awesome. I love it. Just, if you want to get, you want to get a percentage off,
Starting point is 00:47:48 you want to get 30% off. Use joymo.com slash big thing. Use joymoe.com slash big thing. I'm telling you. You love it. Everybody who I've told about this stuff, and I keep getting people like, okay, didn't, didn't know. You thought you were just hawking it, but I tried it. And my partner and I had a great time.
Starting point is 00:48:06 So give it a shot. Joymo. Love Joymo. Usejoimaud.com slash big thing. You won't regret it. All right. Moving on here. And also talking about where is this thing?
Starting point is 00:48:23 What should we talk about to close it out? I don't know. Well, we'll finish on with David Gordon Green. Directed Halloween kills, ends. Halloween. He's doing Exorcist. And I don't know, man. First of all, I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:48:51 Why would you want to at this point? It's kind of like you're going to be pigeonholed now. Rebooting stuff. And so this is from Dark Horizons. Having just directed a whole new Halloween trilogy, you would think the filmmaker David Gordon Green would like a break from horror legacy franchises. Thus, it came as a surprise a while back
Starting point is 00:49:10 when he was announced that he would be directing a similar style revival of the Exorcist franchise, again for Blumhouse production. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Green revealed that he actually was considering doing a completely different project before Jason Blum offered him the chance to direct the new Exorcist,
Starting point is 00:49:23 which aims to be the first of a new trilogy serving as a direct sequel to the original. So he's doing the same thing. If anybody's followed my career, I've always doing left turns. Once I feel comfortable, I've got to get out of there and find something that I don't know and that is dangerous and vulnerable and that's the stuff that really appeals to me. Fortunately, I've been able to exercise that through a lot of comedic work on television, some other things I've been able to do in between horror projects,
Starting point is 00:49:46 but I really did have an intention of saying, I'm going to push pause on horror as much as I love this genre. It's been good for me as a creative and financial standpoint, for sure, but it was just time to move on until the perfect it was just time to move on until the perfect property and the perfect idea happened at the same time. Part of the appeal for him is the upcoming films will be extraordinarily different from his Halloween movies.
Starting point is 00:50:11 I guess it's in a subgenre of horror, but dramatically I'm approaching it very academically. So we'll see. It's bringing a lot of the same team together and teams of makeup and effects team and a cinematographer, but at the same time we're bringing in a new group as well to complement and involve in different ways. and to make sure it doesn't feel redundant or repetitive.
Starting point is 00:50:29 Green is directing from a screenplay, co-writing with Scott Teams, Danny McBride, and Peter Sattler, while Oscar-winning, Oscar winner. Ellen Bernson is returning to the franchise by reprising her role as Chris McNeil over 40 years since the original debuted in 73. The first Exorcist is probably the one of the most terrifying movies of all time,
Starting point is 00:50:50 the first one. I don't even know if I've ever seen the second one, to be honest, they just don't hear good things, but they're not even going to have. I'm going to be a sequel to that. It's going to be a sequel to the first one. Yeah, I don't know. It's hard to say because I liked the Halloween 2018. It really did.
Starting point is 00:51:13 Halloween kills, I thought, was atrocious. I know a lot of people don't agree with this, but I think Halloween ends is better than kills. Much better. And I don't think Halloween ends is a good movie. So he's two for three. a lot of people are going to at least agree on that. He's two for three.
Starting point is 00:51:29 Two for three? No one should agree with that. He's one for three. Stupid math. He's one for three in my rankings. So he's coming off of this. I guess they all made money. I don't know what the, like I said,
Starting point is 00:51:47 the last one we just went through it, Halloween has made money, and it's a well-in-pecock. So he wants to do it and they're going to do it. I just, what he said is encouraging, is that tone's going to shift and those types of things. It's not a, it's not a slasher movie, and there might be more to it. And look,
Starting point is 00:52:03 the goodwill that he may be squandered, maybe he picks it back up with a good, terrifying exorcist. Possessions are easier to make scarier than, you know, the same guy
Starting point is 00:52:20 chasing down people. Because I'm not going to spoil Halloween ends, but what I thought we were getting, with some of the old, right? This is the bizarre thing about that movie. When you look at the trailer, it's the same movie over and over and over again. It's going to do the same thing.
Starting point is 00:52:34 It's not the same movie. It's very different. Very different swing that they took. It just, the swing did not land at all. People are sidelined. So I think there's a shot that he could probably definitely make this pretty terrifying. But, you know, he's going to, he just,
Starting point is 00:52:53 what he has now, if you would have made this after 2018. I like to see what that guy did. It did a good job with that direct sequel to Halloween. Now it's like, oh, that's the guy that did Kills Ends. So people are going to be going to do this. All right. What do you got?
Starting point is 00:53:07 Now, it's a very forgiving place and audience. You make a go. People are going to go in. They're going to go like the arms folded. This guy did that. Or they might not even see your movie. But if you make it good, that's how you get back. I mean, look at Brennan Frazier.
Starting point is 00:53:26 I'll close with that. Brendan Fraser. Where is he? Had him somewhere. Brennan Fraser is doing this new movie, The Whale. And so he talked about Georgia the Jungle and how, I guess, he was, where was he? He was at, um, since San Francisco when they did this movie. And so Brennan Fraser appeared at the Mill Valley.
Starting point is 00:53:54 It's what the Mill Valley, not too long ago, film festival over the weekend to promote Darren Aronofsky's The Whale and accept the annual event. events lifetime achievement award. Now, talking to the media on the red carpet beforehand, the actor issued an amusing apology to the nearby city of San Francisco in relation to something that happened over 25 years ago. There's a traffic jam
Starting point is 00:54:13 caused by filming of his 1997 comedy, George of the Jungle. In the film, George goes to rescue a parachute is tangled in the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge. Turns out there was a problem which Frazier describes, though, erroneously refers to it as being the Golden Gate Bridge. Two,
Starting point is 00:54:29 S.F. Gate. I have almost an apology to make. Disney put a mannequin hanging by a parachute from the uprights. They brought traffic to a standstill on either side of the bridge. My trailer was on the other side in a parking lot. I just remember watching the Golden State Bridge. It's this dummy parachute is hanging from it. I had the TV on, and Oprah got interrupted
Starting point is 00:54:47 because there was a special news report with the helicopters saying a parachute is dangling on the bridge. And I'm going, wait a minute. I'm looking at the helicopters and TV. Somebody didn't pull a permit. Somebody's going to get in trouble with the mayor's office. So I can only apologize for that. So that said, my bad, it won't happen again. It's pretty funny. Leslie Mann and Thomas Hayden Church co-starred in the Tarzan spoof, which I love that the fact that George in the jungle is in the news again because of Brenner Fraser. But my point of all that is we love a comeback story, right?
Starting point is 00:55:15 We're pretty forgiving because Brandon Fraser was in the, he was, he was the big guy, he was in all these movies, did these things. He was in school ties, and he was, he was in the mummy. And then he just disappeared. People are where did he go? I missed Brendan Fraser. He popped up here and there. I think he was in that show The Affair. He popped in a couple other things. He's supposed to be in Backgirl, right? Is it Back Girl with Flash? I can't read it.
Starting point is 00:55:41 I think he was in the back. I can't read it. It was one of those movies. Either way, pops back up now and he's getting rave reviews. He's going to probably get nominated for this the Whale movie. And he's back. So we're forgiving, peeps. Anyway, that's the episode today. Thank you for joining me.
