Starting point is 00:00:00 Good people of the big thing. This is my out of the stadium review of the Disney showcase that just happened Friday here at D23. What an experience that was. I want to kick it off at Star Wars, which definitely was something I was looking forward to and think very much lived up my high expectations, to be honest. The Goonies element of the skeleton crew has been there since the first pitch, but this is the first time I think anyone's seen footage, and it feels more Goonies than I expected. and I didn't know Goonies would work in space, and I still don't, but I do like the swing they're taking, so I'm hoping it lands because I would like more things like that Andlin feel, especially in this age of genre content. The Grogu and Mandalorian footage looks fantastic.
Starting point is 00:00:43 For how early they're into shooting, there's a lot of really cool action sequences. They've clearly pre-vised and got some shots done with. There's a really cool at-at moment that I'm so excited about, and or being my favorite Star Wars TV show ever, one of my top three Star Wars adaptations or additions looks like it builds so beautifully on the world that Andor Season 1 gave us, but with the escalation of tension, with the building action, with everything leading towards Rogue Squadron, it is, sorry, Rogue 1, it's been a big D23, but everything leading towards Rogue 1, obviously we know how it ends,
Starting point is 00:01:22 so it's so impressive how taught and intense Andor Season 1 was, season 2 looks even better. for Andor. Andor was by far the highlight of the Star Wars section just because it's got the highest stakes for me and it lived up to them. Very excited for Andor. Into Pixar. There was a lot of Pixar. Toy Story 5 is my most anticipated Pixar element because, I mean, Toy Story is my favorite of the animated Pixar franchise. That's a little redundant. The Pixar started with Toy Story and up until Soul had never been dethroned. Personally, Soul is my favorite Pixar. but Toy Story is so consistent, it's so special, it's so topical, it kind of hit my generation. Every time one was released, we were that age, and I think this one being about electronics versus toys is incredibly topical with me filming this on my cell phone, looking at a lens of electronics, and I think there's an entire generation of kids that aren't even going to know toys.
Starting point is 00:02:20 So the idea that the villain is electronics in general, plus there's like an army of stuck in toy mode buzz light years all that sounds great frozen three we got to see the first pre-vis image looks exciting i know frozen is such a phenomenon so i know it's going to be big no matter what incredible's three however is my jam because i feel like incredibles wasn't the runaway success that uh some of the other ones were but then incredibles two and people are realizing the glory of incredible so i was excited to see incredible's three take off um there's also dreams which is a in between Inside Out 1 and 2 TV show and with Inside Out 2 being as of today,
Starting point is 00:02:59 as of the D23 announcement, the number one animated film of all time, which is crazy. Makes sense to a show. So they're doing a show called Dreams. There's also Win or Lose, which they showed us footage of at the last D23 two years ago,
Starting point is 00:03:14 so we saw some more completed stuff. All that was very cool, very exciting. The thing opened, the entire showcase opened from Moana 2, and that footage looks stunning. It looks really special, and I love the musical elements use in that film. The thing that works there for me is how they use the music. So that's really exciting.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Let's talk about Marvel. That's probably why you clicked on this video, because I'm the Marvel guy. Guys, Muse is such a metal-looking villain that I did not think would translate at all to live action. I actually heard Muse was going to be the villain in Daredevil and got worried. Muse looks awesome. Muse is such a hardcore villain written by Chip Zedarski. It is a recent run from like the 2018 run of Daredevil,
Starting point is 00:04:00 a very fresh villain. And incorporating Muse has a lot of interesting implications. Bringing in Punisher to the trailer and Muse being there has a very interesting flavor for this whole trailer. We get to see Foggy Back. We have to see Karen back. It feels like home.
Starting point is 00:04:16 There's a Netflix element to it where you can feel some of that like tension and there's like a viscousness, there's a dirtiness, there's a skuminess that I really like in even the filmmaking style. So the Daredevil stuff looked great. It looks so much more like Daredevil Netflix than I ever dreamed we'd get and now they're going that way pretty hard. I'm very excited. So I think that's a very hopeful. Brief shot of Bullseye in there. Again, just seeing Foggy and Karen and the avocados at law together again makes me so happy and a very tense scene at a diner with Kingpin and Daredevil and just acknowledging his darker side.
Starting point is 00:04:54 And it just looks so good because he's a really good lawyer. We also got footage from Captain America Brave New World. It did not expect any movie stuff. We got two movies in there. Brave New World, we saw a Hulk transformation that apparently was shorter at San Diego. I was not in the Hall Age San Diego panel. This is the first I've seen any. I can't compare.
Starting point is 00:05:13 But I do know there was some tease shown and we have a full on scene here. And it looks great. I wish I hadn't seen it early because it would have been cool to see it happen in a movie, like to actually save it for the movie, but seeing Harrison Ford as a whole is freaking awesome. Speaking of, seeing Harrison Ford say Adamantium, the first one in the MCU to say Adamantium B, Harrison Ford is so special.
Starting point is 00:05:33 There's like a mic drop moment to say Adamantium, and it's pretty badass. Really dug that. Hearing him say Avengers has been exciting since the teaser, but Adamantium, man, like this road to X-Men in the MCU is quite the journey, and I'm digging it. So the Hulk element, all those things, the fights look very intense and obviously very winter soldier coded. The things they're doing with the political drama mixed with action, very espionage, very winter soldier, and they're nailing it. So I think it looks great.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Ironheart was my big. I hope that is at D23 because I loved the footage at D23, but that was two years ago. That's insane. It's been so long and no one's seen it. So I'm glad it still exists. I think Red Hood is essential to Doom and how we get to Doom, the road to Doom, because you need to talk about magic and technology blending,
Starting point is 00:06:25 and I think that's going to be very Red Hood in the Iron World. I think that this is going to tie from Iron Heart directly to Armour Wars, which is effectively an Iron Man 4. So the Iron World of Tech mates the magic of Red Hood, I think is going to be pretty essential for Dr. Doom. And that, I think, is going to be a really cool, element of like street level fights and you know collegiate stuff and intelligence and learning and all
Starting point is 00:06:51 the stuff we love about these characters i don't know there's something special about iron heart as bendis uh wrote her that i think the show captures i will admit that they reshot a lot of the show and i liked the first teaser we saw it d23 two years ago a little bit more than this teaser i hope it was just a cut obviously the show is like seven hours long so like i think you can get away with that much additional photography, but I totally, I don't know, it's odd that I liked the two years ago when more when Marvel's done such a good job restructuring that I feel like everything else they've re-shot has improved. I'm hoping this trailer just wasn't as much for me, but it was great to see Anthony Romo's Red Hood. It was exciting to see the homie Alden-Earon
Starting point is 00:07:33 at all in this, and he looks like haggard and long-haired and great. So there's elements I'm very excited for, but I will admit I like the first teaser more, though I'm still very excited for Ironheart. I think Dominic Thorne is such a good Rie Rehry Williams that no matter what this is one of my personal most anticipated and a lot of people weren't talking about it, I hope they are now. That said, there was no Wonder Man. I wanted to see my dude Yaya. So that's the one thing I missed. The Yagatha stuff was great. This trailer actually got me more excited than the first one because I think it captured that spooky Disney supernatural hocus pocus energy in a way that felt more authentic to the MCU. And I really like the vibe. I mean, Aubrey Plau
Starting point is 00:08:12 is so captivating and there's more of her in this. I think the show is going to be really fun and it's out so soon, so that was really cool to see. And then after Marvel, that was just like an array, oh, and Fantastic Four! I didn't get to see the Fantastic Four stuff at Comic-Con. I've seen Galactus.
Starting point is 00:08:29 I've seen Johnny Storm in his suit. I've seen Reed Richards teaching science. Like, that was so special. And to see that little introduction with them around the table and to have that whole energy of like the Marvel's first family was so dope. I'm so glad I didn't see the footage bootlegs. It was really cool to see clean. And Galactus has me so excited. So that footage was exciting. Into non-marvel, I really, really dig
Starting point is 00:08:55 that we are entering an age of things expanding, like, rapidly with musicals. I'm not much of a musical guy, but everything feels so intentional, like with musicals. Like the Mufasa stuff, it feels like there's a reason for the song. Like that, that's exciting, and they really leaned into all of that. Like, I don't know, like the expansion of musicals feels like when you're a kid, musicals have to be animated. So now that we're adults, the live action musicals is starting to feel less surreal. Like, I'm starting to buy the hook of musicals, and this panel really, like, nailed that.
Starting point is 00:09:30 So Mufasa is exciting. Freakier Friday, I think, surprised the hell out of me. My big announcement, surprise-wise, was definitely that 9-inch Nails is doing the music for Tron Ares. Like, that's crazy to me. If someone's going to take over for Daft Punk, who frickin'Resner was that D23, I'm so excited for 9-inch Nail. So, so much exciting prospects for next year, but also, like, so many things that I feel like we'll have bigger conversations about when we have more data. Like, this was good at teasing, and I think that's a good thing for D23.
Starting point is 00:10:02 I think San Diego is really good for, like, news, and D-23 is really good for, like, here's an announcement, here's a tease, let's dance. So, yeah, really impressed. Those are my thoughts. We're going to talk about it much more on various shows. Much love to you, big thing, audience, and we'll talk more when I'm more awake. What a D23. What a panel.
Starting point is 00:10:20 What a showcase. See you.
