Starting point is 00:00:01 Hello, friends. Welcome to another Friday edition of Capes and Cows. I am Winston A. Marshall. I am going to be hosting the show again today. Christian is on just a role right now with these Game of Thrones reactions with Sam, and they're trying to get through them as quickly as possible. I know partially, I believe, because of a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and riding that wave and all that kind of stuff.
Starting point is 00:00:27 And, you know, it's good for the goose, good for the gander. What makes dollars make sense. you know, some about feeding your children. I don't know. The point is they got to take care of that, which means that myself and, again, the lovely Chris will be taking over the capes and cows episode for today.
Starting point is 00:00:42 I'm not quite sure yet where our goal is. I'm sure Luke will tell me in just a moment. You know, he's a producer extraordinaire. But we've got a lot to talk about. We've got to talk about the fact that apparently the Netflix CEO has confirmed, more or less, that Superman's early digital release was because it was underperforming, which is not great.
Starting point is 00:00:59 it feels like he's just going to have this green light to, you know, kill theatrical runs. We'll talk about that. We've got to talk about how Supergirls replace its composer with a Zach Snyder collaborator that apparently Chris Hemsworth really wants a Thor storm team up for Secret Wars. I could not wish for anything more. Wonder Man is apparently really close to a second season and there are Super Bowl plans for Supergirl. And it seems to be dealing with a disappointing trend. We got a lot to talk about y'all.
Starting point is 00:01:31 So buckle up. Go get your capes. Go get your cows. Because it's time, both capes and cows. Let's get it. Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen, to capes and cows. It's your first time here. Thank you for joining us.
Starting point is 00:02:06 We're talking about all of that superhero comic book movie TV show goodness. But, you know, again, I can't do it by myself. I've done it by myself. It's phrasing. Let me try that again. The point is I had to bring a partner in crime here. I had to put the dynamic duo back together. I think we decided we're renaming ourselves, Cooters and Cows, was the ultimate decider.
Starting point is 00:02:30 So here's the other half of Couters and Cows. I love that it's Cudors, plural. Yes. Yes. Couters and Cous. Yes. Oh, no. One of my lights went out.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Dang it. Oh, no. Hi, everybody. This is why, okay, this is why y'all, like Etsy sellers, stop using these. Everyone uses these, and now I'm in a freaking light war, like a Martha May Louvier. You click one, and it knocks the other one out. I agree with you. Yeah, me and my neighbor are battling.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Oh, you think your neighbor did it? Yeah, yeah, I know it. Because we like, a light in our kitchen, too, has this, and he'll switch his lights on. All of a sudden there's a rave in our house, which we're not mad about. Yeah, it comes on, Logan, and I just both freak out. But it's during the show. Man, all right. How you doing?
Starting point is 00:03:17 You know, you actually sort of know. I'm okay. It was a very, very busy week. I pulled a, let me see if I remember this correctly, a 20-hour day, a 12-hour day, and then a 14-hour day back-to-back-to-back. And so yesterday I was supposed to come over and, you know, I got a call back for this film. And I was going to come over and have you help me do that since you got me to the callback stage. You know, we got to stick with a hand that you, you know, stick with the, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:53 See, tired. Couldn't cut. All my metaphors just saying. Yeah. Um, but right around when I was supposed to head to you about an hour or so before, because, you know, the misses is, is sick. I was like, oh, shit, I think it hit me. And so I just wanted to be safe for you and your hubby and be like, you know what? For now, let me stay home and I'll try and figure something else out.
Starting point is 00:04:15 I woke up this morning. I don't feel like sick, you know, knock on wood. I feel exhausted still, but I don't feel like the, the, the, whatever little flush fever I thought I was getting. I don't feel that anymore. My sinuses aren't any more messed up than they are just by, you know, snoring all night. So I'm just kind of like, okay, I think we're good. But we will see. But how are you is the question.
Starting point is 00:04:42 I'm doing great, man. Well, first of all, we got to get you at a netty pop. because that shit is fantastic. Just flush it all out. It's disgusting. It feels horrible. But it works really well. Duce your face.
Starting point is 00:04:54 You know, it'll make you feel better. I'm doing great. Dush your face. That's amazing. Just got to doish your face. I'm going to Disneyland after today's show. So I'm really excited.
Starting point is 00:05:06 I am so jealous. We bought Magic Keys last year and they expire today. And this will. Or magic keys? Are there like the season? That's the season pass. We got like the lowest tier because Logan and I both had done an audio drama. And so we were like, let's use these paychecks for something fun.
Starting point is 00:05:24 And we only, this will only be our fourth time going to the park in a year. So it's been a waste of money. Well, how much, how much were they? I'm so curious. Oh, I think our down payment was like one, 80 something. And it was like 35 a month each. So not too bad. We've paid for ourselves to go to the park.
Starting point is 00:05:42 But you're blacked out for the entire summer. So then, so then. So then what, 420 plus, you said how much? 180? Like 35 months? Yeah, the down payment was like 180. So it's 600 for the whole thing. But I mean, that's not bad.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Each trip to Disneyland like $200? Yeah. That's before you buy anything in the park. That's just for like the ticket and the parking. Yeah. Parking's not included. But because we're on that low, low tier. We're on the SoCal tier.
Starting point is 00:06:09 But it does pay for itself. That's why that company will never go broke, man. I swear to God. I swear to God. And that's why all of them are trying to play catch up, man. 105, 105 is the number. I'm going to jump into this story. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:24 And we're going to do 105 is very doable, considering we were trying to get to 221 last week. That was some nonsense. That was insane. So we can do 105. I believe in us. But let's get to this first story. The Netflix CEO seemingly confirmed Superman's early digital release was because
Starting point is 00:06:39 it underperformed. It was Josh Wilding from cover book movie reporting. Superman was released in theaters on July 11th of last year. sluggish returns overseas. It was still the biggest superhero movie of 2025. The James Gun Helms Blockbuster was closing in on $600 million when the DC Studios co-CEO announced on August 12th that Superman would arrive on digital platform three days later.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Projections of a 650 million final global haul plummeted in the DCU movie finished its run with 616 million worldwide. A digital release just 35 days after its big screen debut hurt Superman's momentum and was widely criticized by those who support the theatrical experience, exhibitors were also unhappy. Gun was eventually asked to explain the decision and said, well, it's very complicated, but the truth is it is because of peacemaker. I originally thought Peacemaker was going to be coming out next month.
Starting point is 00:07:29 There was a lot of things that are beyond our control, so that peacemaker is coming out now. At the end of the day, I wanted everyone to be able to see Superman that wanted to, he added, even those people who couldn't get to a theater before Peacemaker, and that's really the reason for it. Heismaker Season 2 premiered on August 21st with an opening episode that had little to nothing to do with Superman. Now, the truth of that early digital debut may have been revealed by Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, who if the merger pans out will be in charge of Warner Brothers Pictures and DC Studios. Appearing at a Senate hearing, the executive was pushed on Netflix's commitment to keeping movies in theaters and replied 45 days as the industry standard for self-enforcement. it. However, routinely, movies that underperform, the window moves a little bit.
Starting point is 00:08:15 Superman was a little shorter window. This has caused quite a stir on social media with many of guns detractors declaring this proof that Superman got an early digital release because it was underperforming in theaters. Others, meanwhile, have argued that Sarandos was using it as an example. Despite some conflicting report, Superman's budget is believed to be around 325 to 225 for production and 100 for marketing. That's million, by the way. While it might have, can you imagine Superman costing $225?
Starting point is 00:08:47 That would be absolutely hilarious. Oh, God. Anyway, while it may have broken even and ultimately turned a profit thanks to ancillaries like promotional partners and merchandise, it seems likely that Warner Brothers decided to pull the trigger on a digital debut because there's more money to be made there than from declining ticket sales. Ultimately, Superman was big enough, a big enough hit to Warren a seat. and next summer's manner tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Still, you have to believe Warner Brothers and Netflix will be keeping a close eye on how that and the likes of Supergirl and Clayface perform. Let's see. What is this? Oh, this is the Senate hearing. Okay, we can watch this very quickly. Let me know if y'all can't hear this. Can't hear it.
Starting point is 00:09:47 Okay. Then it's the thing I read. It's all right. It's the thing I read. We'll just go back. All right. Chris, I just, I have so many. feelings. We joke all the time with my dog whenever, you know, she's just like, I was like, oh,
Starting point is 00:10:05 you got a lot of big feelings right now, don't you? So what are your big feelings on all of this? Because I'm sure they are also just like, oh, whoa, whoa. Yeah, like, I understand intellectually what they're staying here, you know, and I understand that the entertainment business is a business, ultimately. But that window shrinking is just, oh, ooh, we pop in bottles. All right. The window shrieking is upsetting. It's just by Alani. I need energy. It's just my lot of me.
Starting point is 00:10:37 Side quest, I can't wait for you and Amy to meet because she is constantly chucking those and the Celsius. She got like a whole like crate of the Witches Brew one in October. I hate Witch's brew. Really? Oh, that was. Because I don't like, I don't like fake apple stuff. And it literally just tasted like like the same kind of like fake.
Starting point is 00:10:56 apple you used to make like apple martinis, but I want to tell you, which is, and I'm going to feel weird about this because I immediately was just like, God, I'm a fucking stereotype. This watermelon wave flavor, though? Damn, bro. This is like drinking a Jolly Ranger. I am, I'm going to be so lit. But as you were, as you. That's great.
Starting point is 00:11:16 But I understand trying to line something up with the show, although, as the article does point out, we really don't have that Superman tie in for a while. So that does feel like a James Gunn PR kind of phrasing of the situation. And then Serrault was talking about everything underperforming. I understand that there have been so many conflicting reports to the point that when I got this story this morning, I was like, that can't possibly be true. That can't be true that it underperformed. However, breaking even is not what a business necessarily wants to do. It's better than not performing well, but still, we do obviously want to make a profit.
Starting point is 00:11:53 So I understand all of this. I get all of it, but it does always just make me nervous when the theatrical window gets smaller because there are some stragglers. I do appreciate the way that they phrased for those people who couldn't get to a theater. We wanted them to say Superman. I understand that because we've also had people in the chat talking about that, you know, people who are parents who have a hard time getting to the movies or maybe people who've got like their bootstraps a little tighter, you know, who are paying for streaming services,
Starting point is 00:12:20 but getting that, you know, extra $25 a month to go to AMC. that could be a costly thing that doesn't work for them or paying per movie doesn't work for them. So again, I understand all of it. It just still feels, I'm going to be so professional, a little yucky. It feels a little yucky. Oh, I see.
Starting point is 00:12:41 I see. Yeah, I see what you were going to say, but you found the PG version. That was good. That was good. Yeah, thanks. I'm trying. I already said, you know, a word for poop earlier that I was like,
Starting point is 00:12:51 dang it, I swore so early. Yeah, I know, I know. I try my best. Because I, you know, Lord, they were, they were ready to take me out back like old Yeller last week. The way I was going. But, yeah, my big problem is just that. We are getting closer and closer to this whole idea of honestly not being,
Starting point is 00:13:16 you remember that movie, Syrogates with Bruce Willis? And so the idea that you don't actually go out. in the world you just have essentially an avatar that goes out in the world for you and everybody just kind of lives in their little dwelling homes that they never leave and all that kind of stuff no maybe not the look on your face it looks like you don't remember i haven't seen that that's interesting yeah so that it it wasn't the best movie the idea was great but the like a lot of ideas they didn't execute all that well but it reminds me of that and that's what i'm really worried about the more we silo ourselves, like, I think
Starting point is 00:13:52 that it is really cool, that we have streaming, that we can watch whatever you want more or less, like kind of at a whim. But we know that some of the drawbacks of that, like, one, they're killing physical media. So the idea that like if they decide at any point, which happened a lot during the strike and right before it,
Starting point is 00:14:10 of, eh, we don't want to pay out these creators anymore, this is off the platform. Eh, if we don't want to pay for the licensing of this, this is off the platform, and then all of a sudden where you thought to yourself, Oh, I'll always have... I mean, Friends is still there, but I always have friends. Oh, they decided they don't want to pay David Schwimmer anymore. They got a friend.
Starting point is 00:14:27 That's bullshit. And if you didn't own it physically, you're screwed. That's the first element. The other element is when I think about a Spotify and everything else. Someone had mentioned this idea of when you are able to perfectly curate your own music, it doesn't force you to branch out at all. Like, I find it so funny without getting into a... political argument of stuff, but people that are freaking out about, like, say, Bad Bunny playing
Starting point is 00:14:52 the halftime show, yes, I understand that he's mainly speaking in Spanish and stuff like that, but a lot of people will not have discovered Bad Bunny's music necessarily because they're not inclined to listen to the radio. They're just going to listen to the thing that they want to listen to. It also doesn't allow us then to talk about that stuff because, like, hey, have you heard so-and-so? Nah, bro, I don't even listen to that. Versus if it was on the radio, yo, do you hear that bad bunny? So you go, oh, yeah, the one that goes, I don't, you know, like, yeah, then great. And we're having that discussion. When you kill the theatrical experience, it's just you and your little siloed little family and nothing else.
Starting point is 00:15:26 You're losing that opportunity to mingle with other people, to have the water cooler moment to talk about stuff. Unless somebody in your immediate orbit says, bro, you have to go and see the housemaid. You have to see it. You're not going to be inclined to do a lot of that stuff. And it is just going to further, in my opinion, I think that's what worries me the most for killing community by not having these. kind of public outlets to be able to do stuff. I think that's where, other than the spectacle of having it on a big screen in IMAX, in 70 millimeter IMAX, in Dolby, whatever, not being able to connect with people is what
Starting point is 00:16:02 scares me the most personally. Absolutely. I completely agree. That's very, very well said. And honestly, one of the things that's so wonderful about doing a job like ours is we do get exposed to a lot of media that I don't think either of us would seek out. You know, it is very clear from this show. what we are into when anyone brings up anime or superhero stuff, we're like, heck yeah. But when you
Starting point is 00:16:23 talk about something like a housemaid or things like that, that maybe not might be something that we don't gravitate towards, it's nice that we have this push because of this community to go, oh, we have to expand our horizons. We have to know what everyone else is talking about too. We have to have an opinion and we can't have one until we see it. And I think that's a big problem with pop culture and with things as a whole right now is we all have so many opinions before something comes out. And I know I'm very guilty of this. I have every week been like, I don't know how I feel about Doomsday. That movie isn't even here yet.
Starting point is 00:16:51 I fully agree. But the problem is because this is the job we decided. Yeah. Even if we didn't have this as a job, everybody has an opinion when it comes to everything at this point. 100%. And the best way to actually be able to articulate that opinion well is to experience all of these things,
Starting point is 00:17:09 especially things that challenge your own personal taste viewpoint, etc. And that's what's so great about the theatrical window is experiencing that, again, with people who you do not know and realizing you're laughing at the same moments. You're getting choked up at the same moments even though you're not walking the same path in life. That's really beautiful. I agree. You know what I think really needs to happen?
Starting point is 00:17:29 And this AMC marketing people, I hope you're listening to me and your fans of capes and cows. I would highly recommend putting together an A-list family plan. Like the same way that you can do, the same way that like more or less the magic keys you're talking about for Disneyland is, I know it's like what individual stuff, but I know that if you have a certain family level, you can like get a package that works that way. Set something up where it's like, you know, you can, you know, the way that like Netflix now is set up,
Starting point is 00:18:01 oh, if you have the one household or whatever, you can add an additional one for this amount. Set it up where it's like, you know, if you have like an A-list account, you can add one to two or whatever additional, like this age coverage for A-list. So like if mine is 25, my kid is 10. And so each kid is an additional $10 or $12 up to a point or whatever.
Starting point is 00:18:27 And then if you do something like that and you genuinely are finding these packages to get people in there, yes, it is still an easier to just be at home. But you are giving people the financial opportunity to take the, of course, if they can take their kids out, they would love to do that. because it is an experience, but at the end of the day, it is both a time hassle. And then the parents in here, please send in the super chats and tell me if you think I'm off face.
Starting point is 00:18:53 It's partially the time hassle. But the main element is that before you even got to snacks, you're dropping essentially $100 to take your wife and two kids to go see a movie. You know, and your ass probably doesn't want to see minions, but you know you have to because you have two young kids. So like it's one of those situations where like you have to, you have to find ways to attract people to do it and not break the bank because that's just where we are at this particular juncture.
Starting point is 00:19:24 That and people need to, you know, companies need to stop being so greedy, but that's a whole other conversation for another time. But all that being said, we want to know what you think, man. Are you more worried again? I mean, we've had this conversation a couple of times about how Sarandos is very clear that he wants to kind of kill the theatrical. window if he can based off of his comments and whatnot. Are you surprised? You know, before we move on just a second, I think the other thing that sticks out to me,
Starting point is 00:19:53 I understand the PR of it all as like a head of a studio that you can't just be like, we didn't exactly do how we wanted, but I'm not going to lie. It rubs me a little the wrong way that he kind of lied about, oh, it's because of peacemaker. That's the reason. Like, they came up with an excuse,
Starting point is 00:20:07 but damn, your new boss just threw you under the bus more or less than was like, nah, they just weren't making enough money. What do you think about that? Because that also kind of bothered me. Oh, man. I'm so sorry because I missed who said it in the chat, but I really love this of like, ooh, someone's already acting like their CEO. Someone's really taking ownership and acting like they get to throw their weight around already.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Yep. Ooh. I saw that. And this is, well, I always think honesty is the best policy. I also think that a like united front makes sense. And I would have rather that James Gunn, because as I said earlier, like, That's a very like PR media trained response. Oh, no, we wanted the synergy of our shows.
Starting point is 00:20:46 But, you know, there's so many things going into this. A lot of stuff that we can't talk about. No. Like, if that's not true, then don't say that to me. Take ownership, you know. But then if you are about to be on the same team, let's not completely throw somebody under the bus. Let's do a, I completely understand we did want to line this up with peacemaker. However, on top of that, like there's just little bits of phrasing.
Starting point is 00:21:11 And it's just, it feels a little catty and finger pointing right now. I'm not a huge fan of that. Yeah, no. And that's the whole thing is like everybody kind of already felt that it was a little fishy because I agree with the article. That first episode was like, this has nothing to do with Superman. Like it really wasn't a big deal until the Lex Luthor element of it later on in the season, which is what it was more aligned to do because it was releasing.
Starting point is 00:21:41 weekly that you had about six weeks before you were even getting to an actual connective tissue to the whole thing so like it just would have made more sense you can still like to be like you know there the the show the show um is a little bit connected to it but you know so yeah but really it was just one of those things where it's still going to be out in theaters, but, you know, just say that. We wanted people to be able to watch it, however they wanted to watch it. And it wouldn't sound great as far as theatrical window releases, but you don't look like you were just straight lying and be like, it's so connected to peacemaker.
Starting point is 00:22:27 We just had to make sure everybody saw it before the show came out. That, because now I caught you in a lie. So now I'm kind of like, do I believe the words that are coming out of your mouth? Like, I don't know now. Now I'm like that pushback on lanterns, what can I believe? What do I know? Hmm. It's, did you watch Naruto like at all?
Starting point is 00:22:54 Just here and there. I don't know enough about it. Did you watch at least the kind of beginning where they did like the tuning exams and they had to like, there was this one episode was purely based on, okay, you're going to take a written exam. If you don't get at least like a 90, then you flunk out and your whole team flunks out. Yeah. But if you cheat and we catch you cheating, you're, you're. done. I bring that up because the whole point of it at that particular moment was to have the ninjas cheat because a lot of them are like do not know the answers. So it's how can you do
Starting point is 00:23:23 essentially spying, being a spy? It's kind of the same thing sometimes with like, you know, people in like corporate elements when you're CEOs, we have to give these whole things. You're pretty much always lying because there's corporate secrets you cannot let out into the public, but it's always about did you get caught? And in this particular case, unfortunately, it's because your new boss is running his mouth at a Senate hearing, but you got caught. If you would,
Starting point is 00:23:49 if you had gotten away with this lie, nobody would have given the shit and it would have been none the wiser. But unfortunately, your new boss caught you red-headed. And now I'm like, uh-uh, bro. I don't trust your ninja ass no more. I know you up to something like that's where we're at. So,
Starting point is 00:24:04 oh, shout out. Shout out to our wonderful sponsors of Trade Coff and Ruggiette. I appreciate you so much. I just had to Chris, I had to point this out because it had me dying. I started earlier. Someone goes, yo, Winston dressed like the candle. It's so coordinated. I love it. No, it was completely by accident, too. I was going to get coffee and I was like, oh, we're out of coffee. I got to get some tray of coffee myself. But then also, just to continue with what we were talking about, movies are crazy expensive. in North Jersey. It's $100 for tickets and snacks for the three of us. And that's, that's exactly my point. If for Kristen and I, I'd like, obviously, I'm not even doing the math that it's like 25, 28 per head. So call it about 50, 50, uh, six bucks for our A list for the month. We're getting our monies worth because we almost always go to the screen on scenes that happen on
Starting point is 00:25:02 Mondays. Um, so that by itself, we're going to the movies like four times a month at minimum, let alone if I go, if I don't get into press stuff, I'll go for work myself to other movies that have released. So I'm getting the thing out of it. But that's exactly the problem, the fact that a family, if they want to go and see Supergirl, is going to run you for regular screening. I'm assuming that did not include an IMAX or Adobe or anything else.
Starting point is 00:25:29 He's going to run you $100 out the gate. Bro, I got to, I got, it's expensive. I got to buy gas and eggs. and all sorts of stuff, I can't do that. So they really have to come up with some sort of game plan to figure stuff out. Uh-oh. No, don't do that. Sorry about that, folks.
Starting point is 00:25:49 I'm trying to pull up the next story, and it decided to open it in a window. I did not ask it to open. So, yeah, my apologies on that one. So let me do. What are we going to see? Let's see that browsing history, buddy. Hey, well, we're not going to. Well, fortunately, I don't know about you.
Starting point is 00:26:05 I actually keep that stuff in separate browsers. I intentionally have a nothing browser. So all of the stuff that y'all don't need to see, no one even knows because the browser just doesn't exist anywhere on the main element of my stuff. I've never looked at filth ever in my life, not even one time. You know what you're not going to do? You're not going to James Gunn me and lie right now. I don't appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:26:27 I'm just kidding, James Gunn. I'm just kidding, but please don't blacklist me from everything. I just, I literally just making jokes. Here's the next story. So Supergirl is replacing its composer, Robin Jawadi, with longtime Zach Snyder collaborator. This is Josh Wilding reporting. Superman was originally set to feature a score by the Suicide Squad composer John Murphy.
Starting point is 00:26:50 However, relatively later in production, he was joined by David Fleming, who seemingly picked up where he left off. Now, in a bizarre coincidence, this summer, Supergirl movie has this summer's Supergirl movie has undergone a similar change. It was previously confirmed that Ironman and Game of Thrones composer, Ramin Jowandi, Jowadi, excuse me, had been tapped to score the woman of tomorrow's first solo outing in the DCU.
Starting point is 00:27:17 Well, we've now learned via official press notes for Supergirl that he's been replaced by Tom Holkenborg, aka Junkie X-L. I love Junkie X-L. Longtime Zach Snyder collaborator, he counts Batman v. Superman Donna Justice, Zach Snyder's Justice League, Army of the Dead, in Rebel Moon among his many credits.
Starting point is 00:27:35 Junkie Excel has also worked on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Deadpool, and Godzilla versus Kong. His music is vastly different from Jawadis, and it seems likely that DC Studios decided Supergirl would benefit from a score with a bit more of an edge over traditional soundtrack. Talking about the DC uses approach to the maid of might, James Gunn previously said, this is really an anti-hero story. loved about the script that Anna wrote is that Supergirls got a lot of baggage and a lot of demons coming into this, which is very different than where Superman is in his life. And having Millie being able to come in and play that and all the complexity of that and do it in a way that in a very human way where we can actually have empathy for her and have that dance of the humor and someone that has that toughness. It was such a gift to get her.
Starting point is 00:28:33 It's really surprising the Headspace Supergirl is in and the journey she gets to go on, which is very unusual for a typical superhero movie, which this is not. Supergirl DC Studios' newest feature film to hit the big screen arrives in theaters worldwide next summer for Warner Brothers Pictures and stars as Millie Alcock, the dual role of Supergirl slash Kara Zorrell.
Starting point is 00:28:53 Craig Gillespie directs the film from a screenplay of Anna Naguera. I always mess her name of my website. I'm going to, hold on. I'm going to play this in the Google. to Google translate because I need to stop not being able to say her name. We'll do that while, while Chris is talking. When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home,
Starting point is 00:29:12 Kara Zora, aka Supergirl reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic interstellar journey of vengeance and justice. Alcock stars alongside Matias Scornner. Okay, that's another one I'm plugging in. Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Mammoner. coming out June 26th of this year.
Starting point is 00:29:34 Okay. So while I learned how to say Anna's last name, Chris, I got to ask, are you hyped for the change in scoring? Like, are you a fan of Junkie Excel? If you're kind of familiar with their work, does this feel weird to be doing what feels like so close to the movie? Though I guess we are, because we're still like a good four-ish, four-and-half months out.
Starting point is 00:30:00 so that's plenty of time to kind of make those changes and whatnot. Where are your thoughts kind of here and all this? It does feel a little close. And I say that as somebody who does not intrinsically know so much about like the music portion of film. What goes into that. I should, I need to ask my buddy Michael about this. Michael Trailer, who's on our podcast this week is an editor for TV and film. He's done like Brooklyn 99 and stuff.
Starting point is 00:30:24 And he's specifically a music editor. So I will find out more about is this too close? Is this a bad sign? this a red flag moment because I don't know enough about this. But that being said, as a person who didn't love a lot of things in the Snyderverse, those soundtracks slapped. They were really, really great. The score in those were fantastic. I agree. I think they're really, really great. And especially when you think about like those great guitar riffs that would happen and stuff, that feels in line with this supergirl. So maybe that's what happened here is that this just wasn't
Starting point is 00:30:58 completely aligning with the story they were trying to tell because music does reveal so much about a character and it's one of the most powerful things when you pair something with an image on screen and you don't have to have any dialogue and it just tells everything you need to with those notes or with that guitar riff. So my hope here is that we do have now this really fun but complex dark sound that'll go with this. Because as much as I like, you know, a popper rock cover and a trailer, which is very Gunnian. I love an orchestral score that is going to like evoke emotions out of me. And Snyderverse did that and did that really, really well.
Starting point is 00:31:40 So I'm excited to hear this. No, I agree with that. So it's no Gera. That's, that is way easier that I was making it. It's the other one. I don't know if you can hear this, but Sunart is apparently how the other one is said, I guess that didn't come through, which is probably good. But schoonhearts, that's, that is very Dutchian and very hard to say.
Starting point is 00:32:04 I don't. Oh, but in English, it's showing arts. Wow. English said, F, you Dutch. I'm not saying that. That's crazy. But no, I think, I think I agree. The one thing that I would never put, like my,
Starting point is 00:32:24 My issues mainly with the Snyderverse is just I don't love a lot of the characterizations of certain, like, staples. But overall, I actually did enjoy the films with a few exceptions. The scoring was never the problem. The scoring was, in my opinion, always very, very good. I'm a big fan of Junkie XL and their work. people that aren't loving Amazing Spider-Man 2, I loved the scoring for that. So I didn't even realize that was junkie Excel for that. So even hearing that, I was like, oh, no, I'm on board.
Starting point is 00:33:05 Like, let's go. So I think that'll be great. And especially from the idea of this is supposed to be kind of our, like, our sci-fi epic of the DCU here. So this also gives you this opportunity to plug into that. so I'm very, very, very here for that in particular. But like I just, I'm literally thinking about the Snyder cut of Justice League and how that scoring really kept things moving. Because again, the biggest drawback of that film was the fact that it was four plus hours. For some, they loved every single second of it.
Starting point is 00:33:46 For me, the older I get, I would have been that person if I was young. The older I get, I'm like, no, bro, you can't have four hours in my time. You can barely have three hours in my time. You got about your max is like two and a half. And if you can get me in and out in a good 90 minute romp, I am, yes. And then save the, save the 245s for like, it's an Avengers movie. You know what I mean? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:12 But all that being said, no, I think that this is going to be a good addition to the team. I think that it will really bring in a nice. little element to the film and it's just going to round everything out personally. So, you know, and again, I don't think it's too, I don't think it's too late in the game. I think, I think knowing you have that much time, you're going to have edits up until the point that you start doing premieres. So I think that that's, if they feel like they have enough time to do that, they're not going to push everything back, go for it, you know?
Starting point is 00:34:43 Why not? But with that, folks, what do you think? Are you on the same page? Are you good with Junkie Excel taking over the scoring? You're like, hey, bro, it's February. You are doing June. What? What?
Starting point is 00:34:56 No. That's what you think in the comments. We have got 13 super chats so far. The goal is 105, which is very doable. Show some love for capes and cows or cooters and cow, whatever you call us. We'd appreciate that, man. We are trying to get there. And on top of that, you know what?
Starting point is 00:35:15 Let me just put it to you this way. This is the first full week of February, right? that would imply since his black history month we have four weeks of capes and cows taking the crown that that's what that would feel like to me so if you would like to go ahead and support a brother on black history month i would highly highly appreciate you sending them to them superchats otherwise you're racist that's i'm just going to say it that's that's that's that's that's what it is that's that's the only way i'm just playing if i don't give you my bonuses am i awful Yes, you were a bad human.
Starting point is 00:35:52 It's February, reparations. Right, there you go. Reparations. You do that. No one could ever say anything about reparations to you ever, ever again. So, say those. Oh, Jesus. We like to have fun here.
Starting point is 00:36:12 All right, let's go to this next story. Speaking of, speaking of, black people. Chris Semsworth says that he would love to do with Thor StormTree team up for Secret Wars. This is John Wilding reporting on this, man. Short of a big surprise at Avengers Doomsday, it appears Hallie Berry will not reprise her role as Storm of the upcoming Blockbuster. Fans eager to see the X-Men franchise star Dawn, a comic accurate costume of Aurora Monroe. That's obviously come as a major disappointment. Avenger Secret Wars is always a possibility, of course, and an interview for crime.
Starting point is 00:36:49 1-101, Chris Hemsworth said he was hoping Thor could share the screened with Storm to help me summon the storms. Admitting he was bummed not to be joined by Barry and Avengers Doomsday, the actor went on to share more of his thoughts on what a team up could look like. I think he'd be like, oh, we're the same. We have something in common. The incredible wielding of weather patterns talent. Let me try that again.
Starting point is 00:37:11 We have something in common, the incredible wielding of the weather patterns talent. When Barry was asked if she thinks the similarities between Thor and Storm's powers could explain why she isn't part of the movie's cast, the Oscar winner mused, maybe that's why she's not there. They don't need her. That's a lie. You always need Storm. There have been rumblings about a storyline explanation for the absence of characters like Storm
Starting point is 00:37:30 and Gene Gray, but that may be a result of negotiations with some returning X-Men stars not working out. Vendors Doomsday will likely be one of the most expensive movies ever made, so paying big money for what may be a little more than extended cameos probably isn't feasible. Still, with all the teamups we could get in the upcoming Avengers movies, the god of thunder and the X-Men's goddess. Bringing the thunder together would be absolutely epic. You can hear more from Hemsworth and Barry in this Instagram post below.
Starting point is 00:38:00 We already found out that it doesn't really work with the audio stuff, so we're not going to play that, but you can go and watch it. You've got the doomsday coming out December 18th, and then Secret Wars dropping December 17th the following year. Okay, so it would a thousand percent, be incredible to see Thor and Storm working together in that regard. Storm being another person who has proven worthy in the past to wield Molnir and has only amplified her abilities.
Starting point is 00:38:33 She's already a goddess as far as controlling the weather, but then now all of a sudden she's got the strength, the physical strength of Thor as well as her wet, like to me just makes her way too OPE and broken. But Chris, what would you, would you be about it? Would you want to see Hallie Berry? Would you want to see Alexandra's ship? Would you want to see whoever the next storm is supposed to be?
Starting point is 00:38:56 Who would you want to actually be in that team up? Oh, man. Given the kind of like chapters finally really closing on this, I think it'd be nice to have Ali or Alexandria in there just so it again, we kind of bookend everything that Fox did. But bringing in a new storm would be fun because I want to see who these new next men are. And there's so much precedent for having Storm and Thor interact too in really cool ways in the comics. There's alternative timelines if we're getting into multiverse stuff where they're teammates and they've dated. You know, in I believe it's X-Men Curse of the Man thing, they combine their powers and they're able to actually control the entire world's weather.
Starting point is 00:39:37 It's very opied to your point earlier, but it's so cool. I think it'd be so fun to see it. And that team up of thunder and lightning is just a no-brainer. It makes so much sense to have these same powers join forces. Ultimately, at the end of the day, I probably would vote for Hallie Berry. Just again, to give her a little closure. She's come so far with where she started with Storm, with that dialect, and then where she ended with Storm. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:07 Yeah. You're not wrong. You are not wrong, man. It's so fun to rewatch those movies and be like, oh, yeah, we did try something. We did. We did. Dude, the whole, do you know what happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightning? The same thing is everything else. Okay, girl. All right. All right. But that is my most quoted line from the franchise, though. Oh, by far. It's not even, it's not even close for me.
Starting point is 00:40:32 That, that and hi, I'm Charles Xavier. This is, but go for yourself. Yep. That's, those are the two most quoted lines for me. Yeah. But yeah, no, I honestly think that that would be super sick. There's been plenty of examples of storm controlling entire climates and or weather patterns for planets. I think the one that sticks out of my mind the most just because I watched it so much growing up was the X-Men the animated series. So there is an episode of where she gets kidnapped through like a portal.
Starting point is 00:41:05 And they're like, oh, my God, who took storm? Only to find out it was like a dude was like, oh, I'm the king of this planet. I'm the emperor of this planet. Our climate is destabilizing. Can you please save it? And she, like, is able to quiet all of the storms herself. Turns out it's because they're using this technology that's essentially just sapping the planet of its, like, balance and all that kind of stuff. So essentially, Storm just has to be in a constant form of meditation in order for, like, she becomes, they make her queen of the planet.
Starting point is 00:41:37 but she actually is like a slave more or less because she's having to constantly fix the problems of the tech. So it was like a really, really interesting episode. But if you ever needed proof beyond just like every time in the animated series, it'd be like, I the weather goddess storm summon lightning. And then like, yes, shooting lightning is cool and ridiculous. But they really pigeonholed her for a while in that show. You got to be like, bro, she's controlling an entire planet's weather simultaneously.
Starting point is 00:42:07 that's insane um so i would love to see her do that that and i haven't seen the crime 101 yet uh like i didn't go to any of the press screenings or anything but i've got a gut feeling that chris hemisworth and hallie would be a really great team up i feel like it's going it's giving me the same kind of tessa thompson slash chris hemsworth vibes i know that men in black international didn't do well but like them as like Thor and Valkyrie worked really well so I feel like that would be a good one personally um absolutely but you know we will see we will see I have a feeling that maybe she does show up and they're just like you know what we have to have some surprises you already told you everything so yeah but I do think it's probably higher that maybe she's not doomsday but she is in Cedar wars that that
Starting point is 00:43:00 would make a little bit of sense but let us know what you think where you're at on all that and let's get to this next one man and I'm excited about this Wonder Man Marvel Studios is reportedly very close to greenlighting a second season. This Mark Cassidy reporting. It's probably fair to say that hype for Wonder Man wasn't exactly through the roof and the buildup to the show's premiere. Marvel Television's latest MCU set series succeeded in winning over a lot of fans. Critics were also very impressed and the show sits at 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. Wonder Man's dialed back approach to superheroics and focus on character over spectacle proved to be a welcome change for those hoping to see something.
Starting point is 00:43:37 something genuinely different from an MCU project, and viewers are eager to see some, to see more of Simon and Trevor following the events of the season finale. In Yucca Valley, Trevor Slattery sacrifices his freedom to keep Simon Williams out of prison, taking the blame, I guess, spoiler alert, taking the blame for the explosion his friend caused by once again posing a terrorist, as terrorist leader, the Mandarin. The final scene, big spoiler alert here.
Starting point is 00:44:03 Final scenes, Simon uses the full extent of his mysterious abilities to break Trevor out of the Department of Damage Control custody. This is obviously never going to be the last we saw of the two. Scupper Daniel Rickman is now reporting that Marvel is very close to giving a second season of Wonder Man the Greenlight. Whether this means an official announcement is imminent is not clear, but if the studio is planning to continue the show, the trades will no doubt pick up the story. If the show does return for another run, it would be just the third live action Disney Plus Marvel series to get a second season after Loki and Daredevil Blum. and again, season two premieres later this year. Would you want to see a second season? Hell yeah, I want to see a second season.
Starting point is 00:44:39 Chris, you want to see a second season? Absolutely, I do. Do. 100% I do. I don't think I've been more geeked out about a MCU kind of project since, I guess, what would be the most recent,
Starting point is 00:45:00 if I'm going back in time, probably Deadpool and War. if I'm doing this math correct. I don't remember if Loki came up two came up before after that. Let me look up these MCU release order. Schedule, yeah, let's just see. But like I, if I got that correctly,
Starting point is 00:45:18 I think that that would be the last one that I was like, man, this, this hit horde. Because Brave New World, I didn't really like, I really liked Thunderbolts a lot, but like where I was like, oh, I definitely think it was Deadpool and War. Wolverine. Yeah. So I think they have to do it. I think it would be a mistake to not put out another one, especially because, again, if the main thing that we have been concerned about is like a consistency thing,
Starting point is 00:45:46 this was just consistently good throughout. And most people, apparently Christian did not like the Dorman episode. He hated it. Yeah, no, no, no. He personally, he told me he's like, I, he's like, Wonder Man was great. I thought that Yaya and Trevor were, I mean, Ben Kingsley were great. He said, I hated Doorman, which is wild to me. But that sounds about Christian's taste and sensibilities. When he said it, I was like, if any of the sentence was going to come out of your mouth or via text, that would probably be the one I was expecting a little bit. But what do you think? What would you hope to see out of a season two?
Starting point is 00:46:25 What do you think about Christian hating Doorman? It makes sense to me because a lot of times, you know, when we get that Marvel humor, as he'll talk about. about or like the the James gun humor sometimes. It takes him out of it. But I loved like the Josh Gad of it, the cash grab of it. I thought it was so funny and meta and I loved that episode. And I thought it was really well done and just worked on a whole lot of different levels. It makes sense to me though that that is not to his taste.
Starting point is 00:46:53 I'm glad he liked the rest of this show though. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Ah, my watch. So many in the check goes, ah, racism. And I was like, that's not funny. But that's funny. That's not what it is, but that's hell of it.
Starting point is 00:47:07 During this month, no. Just this month, just this month. Just this month. But I want a second season of this so badly because I love where we left off. And again, sorry, guys, for those of you who haven't finished Wonder Man, just, you know, maybe tune out for the next few minutes as we talk about the end here. I love how we see Simon use his celebrity as a way to help Trevor, ultimately. And I love where we leave off. So I want to know then where do they go from there?
Starting point is 00:47:38 Because, you know, like, the department can't really come after Simon if there's no proof, right? We're still going to have all this weird cloak and dagger espionage kind of stuff. And I want to see if he tries to, like, bring Trevor back into the limelight. If he tries to, like, clear his name. I want to see what, like, the hiding of this is. I want to see if Trevor Slattery now is like, well, as an actor, I can take on a different. different persona and I want to see if he starts doing other stuff to try to like re-assimile, get his career back, anything like that. One of the things I was missing was I was hoping that
Starting point is 00:48:13 like Shang-chi or someone from like that film would touch in with Trevor. I think that's something we could do. I thought that was coming to at some point. Yeah. I genuinely thought the moment of like, oh, it's just someone who I knew in a pocket dimension. I was like, oh, we're going to bring them in. We're going to have some of our friends come back. So there's a whole lot of stuff you can do here with them. And we've just kind of hit the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all of the industry know-how and insight. There's so much other stuff we can touch on. And I feel like this is Marvel's version of the studio where we can really look at the genre. We can really look at the behind the scenes and have a lot of fun with it while still making it a superhero show and really
Starting point is 00:48:58 playing in this really unique soundbox that they've created. I agree. You know the funny thing is it's not to say that I don't love my drama as I do. I think one of the things that has and there is drama in this, but it's primarily a comedy. And I think that one of the things that were, I've said this previously, I think one of the things that's really missing right now, I feel like we're not really having fun anymore, if that makes sense. I feel like so much of the stuff that's been released is so serious or so action heavy. And it's not to say that we're anti-act, but even in some of the action films we used to watch,
Starting point is 00:49:40 there seem to be like a, yeah, like I feel like that is missing. And so because of how heartfelt this is, and because there was the little comedic elements where you're poking fun at stuff, and I think that's why people were gravitating so heavy towards the studio, for example, why a couple years ago, Schitt's Creek, the minute people like really kind of you know oh man rip to catheter now hair i forgot that we broke that news in the middle of the show last week
Starting point is 00:50:07 um but uh uh those people i feel like are missing those elements of like just having a lighthearted kind of good time and not to say that you don't have those moments of you know uh simon really having his kind of breakdown once he found out that he was betrayed and then that leading to something more dramatic but there's there's something about like the nonsense of the self-tape studio
Starting point is 00:50:36 or whatever other misadventures they were going through that then makes that stuff hit even harder. You know what I mean? Like with the studio being pure comedy, it's the idea of like, oh my God, they have to get this movie done. And so you start doing casting and then you're worried about diversity so then you start going down that rabbit hole
Starting point is 00:50:56 but then you end up doing some kind of racist stuff while you're doing it. So then all of a sudden you're like, well, do we just go back to this? And then like that whole nonsense of how that whole thing plays out, I think we're missing that kind of levity to stuff. And it doesn't always have to be, you know, as Christian is worried about it, it doesn't need to be full tilt, Thor, Love and Thunder, James Gunny in constant humor. But you need something. And I think that's one of the things that we got out of Loki.
Starting point is 00:51:21 I think that's one of the things that we got out of this is that the serious moments hit serious and the funny moments like genuinely like tickle your sides without feeling like you're going too over the top. And I think that that's why character focus over spectacle focus keeps that anchor. You know what I mean? And I think that's why this works so well. Yeah. Well, that's that's the primary thesis of Marvel. It's not about the mask. It's who's behind it. And when we do these character driven stories, that's always to me much more interesting. Because you still can have spectacle. You can have that big set piece that happens in there where we go,
Starting point is 00:52:01 oh, yeah, this is where we spent the effects budget. Hell yeah. But if we don't care about the person behind all these powers, then what are we doing? Ultimately, that's what Marvel, in my opinion, has always done so great from the comic book standpoint, is we're telling human stories that happen to be so fantastical, not just a person put into a fantastical situation, but becoming extraordinary themselves. and it's always so cool when you see just an ordinary person have to do something so extraordinary.
Starting point is 00:52:29 And that allows us, too, to go, what if and have that moment for ourselves. If I was in this situation, if this was happening to me. And Simon is such a relatable character that I feel like this is something that Marvel can really, really explore in such a cool way. And I think that that's part of why Thunderbolts really was so good because it was the same thing. There was this level of, they even acknowledge that it. certain point where there other than that's the the the darkness that they're going through and they set that up really well it's the idea of like okay we all like shoot and and and like like
Starting point is 00:53:03 really good and punch really good for regular humans but what do you do when it's an existential like world ending threat and you can't shoot or punch it and them having to figure that out it gave us this idea of like yeah there was still action in there and so like okay well bucky can run in and flip a van that's about to crush somebody, but it's like, we got to figure another way out to do this, and it becomes more interesting because if everything is blow up, blow up, punch, punch, punch.
Starting point is 00:53:30 It gets old. That is why the potential fatigue is there is because you've lost what truly makes it special. And I think having more moments like this and more moments like Loki and all that kind of stuff that really is what are drawing people back in. So stop with the idea we have. have to throw half a billion dollars at it to do it.
Starting point is 00:53:56 I think you save those half of billions for your doomsdays and your secret wars, but the rest of it, you got to give us something that anchors in. So because this is where having too many tech bros at the head of all, this is crazy. Look at story structure. It is the idea of you need to go on this journey so that when you get to your actual peak and it's the final battle and everything else, you're like, it's go time, baby. He has to use his acting to trick them so he could get in there and then use his powers.
Starting point is 00:54:28 Like that's what we want to see. You know what I mean? Yeah. That's that, then it feels earned that he's like, oh, bro, he Trojan horseed his way in. It was like, night, night, boom. And then he uses his powers to blow everything up. That would be awesome. I would love.
Starting point is 00:54:42 Yes. Absolutely. So with that being said, what do you all think, man? Do you want a Wonder Man season two? Do you, are you good without it? Where is your heart lying as far as all of that goes? Let us know down in the comments. We got one more story to cover before we get to your super chats.
Starting point is 00:55:01 And we're rolling along. We're at 27, y'all. That is, we're trying to again get to 105 to tie 106 to win. That is very doable. We got an hour left. So please keep sending in those questions that support your thoughts and opinions on all of these stories. We greatly appreciate it. This last story, D.C. Studios Super Bowl plans for Supergirl continue.
Starting point is 00:55:21 disappointing trend by Superman, says Josh Wilding from comic book movie. Earlier today, Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that Project Hail Mary is getting a Super Bowl TV spot and trailer. That contradicted reports from the trades after both deadline and variety said the studio would skip the big game. With that in mind, there's a chance, I'll bet it a small one, that Avengers Doomsday and Superman, Superman, Spider-Man brand-new day could have a presence at the annual sporting event on Sunday night. We'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, DC Studios confirmed reports that Supergirl will be spotlighted during the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet starting at 2 p.m. Eastern 11 a.m. Pacific. However, those of you hoping for a trailer will likely be disappointed. During last year's Puppy Bowl, James Gunn showed up in a brief promo alongside some dogs and a couple of brief graphics following crypto were shown on screen.
Starting point is 00:56:15 Some new Superman merchandise followed with crypto T-shirts and mugs, but there were no new TV spots trailer. or featureettes. While DC Studios could surprise us, it seems Supergirl will have a similar marketing campaign to Superman, so expect the woman of tomorrow to bypass the Super Bowl and for a full trailer to be heading our way in the spring. Addressing the biggest difference between Clark Kent and Cara Zorwell last December, Millie Alcock said,
Starting point is 00:56:37 she's like an unapologetic mesh. She doesn't want to be a hero, and I really admire that about her. I think about her. I think Clark puts on a mask in his everyday life, but Carl won't submit to that. I find that really admirable. Oh, there is a puppy bowl.
Starting point is 00:56:51 teaser. I know you can't hear it. She's just saying I play Supergirl and these are puppies. Okay. Um, yeah, all right. I, I don't, I didn't know that that's what they did last year. I think I was just like so into the game that I, I didn't even notice that they did not put anything, especially because there was like a weird thing where like all of these stories apparently dropped with like the full commercials and shit like an hour before the game started it was really weird so i was just like whatever um if the puppy bowl as much as i love it i love the puppy bowl like love love the puppy bowl if it was more of a mainstay as far as like because it is on animal planet so it's not like it's running on the same network that's that's doing the super
Starting point is 00:57:50 bowl if it was more of a mainstay that i'd be like all right cool but otherwise i'm like I don't know. Really? That's what we're, okay, sure. So like how much marketing is that really doing? Because I feel like the puppy bowl is still very niche. I'm being honest. I mean, what are your thoughts when you kind of hear this? Well, it should be no one's surprised that I friggin love the puppy bowl. I love it so much. It's so good. It's so cute. There are two things I love so much in this world, puppies and puns. And you're fighting for the Lombarky trophy? You shut up. right now. It's not just that. It's the fact that the halftime event for the puppy bowl is the kitty bowl. And then one year, one year they had a half time for the kitty bowl. And it was, I want to say it was like the hamster bowl or something like that, if I remember
Starting point is 00:58:40 correctly. So it's adorable. I want to be the referee. I don't, how do I get that job? Animal Planet, call me. Let me do it. I'll do it for free. I'll do it for snacks.
Starting point is 00:58:51 Oh my gosh. My day rate? Nothing. But I really, I make everyone watch the puppy bowl because I, I truly, I still don't. I think it's the Seahawks and the, is it the Patriots who are playing against them? Okay, there we go. Wow. I'm so proud of you.
Starting point is 00:59:12 Thank you. I'm going to party on Sunday and I'm excited that I know which teams I'm rooting for. Quick, do you know what a safety is? A pin. It is it is when a team on offense ends up in their own end zone and gets tackled. So the defense gets two points and their team now gets the ball. Okay. I'm going to yell that out and everyone's going to be like, what?
Starting point is 00:59:40 No, the reason why I ask because it's obscure enough, it doesn't happen all the time. And the Super Bowl where the Cioxx played the Broncos, the very first play of regulation that wasn't a kickoff, was a safety. That never happened. Some dude put like a $20 bet and made like $50,000 off of that. Because the odds are so astronomically ridiculous of the very first play as a safety. This dude just overnight made $50K. Okay. So note to self, I need to just do small bets on obscure stuff that usually doesn't happen and profit.
Starting point is 01:00:13 There you go. And then all of a sudden, car house. Like just, yeah. Yes. Once again, you all will know. You'll know when I have money. You'll know. They'll be signed.
Starting point is 01:00:22 They'll be signed. I won't say it, but there'll be sense. It'll be sense. So I force everyone to watch the puppy bowl. I usually, like, will bring my laptop and put it on in, like, another room and be like, puppy bull's over here. So I don't mind this at all. I also, unpopular opinion probably, I'm pretty tired of the, like, commercial for the commercial,
Starting point is 01:00:45 the teaser for the trailer. Like, all of that, just after a while, I'm like, I just, you can let me see the thing. I don't need a big buildup to a Cheetos commercial. I don't need to have a 45 second advertisement that a trailer is dropping soon. Yeah. At least not on my television. In my socials, I think that's smart. As I'm scrolling around, oh, hey, I can look for that and I can go to YouTube later on this week.
Starting point is 01:01:10 So a lot of what's happening with the commercials and the trailers and the trailers and everything is so big and bombastic now. And I get it. You are spending so much money. understand why this in itself is its own kind of big old party. But my Super Bowl already happened. The Muppets premiered this week. So anything popping up here, I'm just kind of like, I'm good. It's which is a thousand percent fair. But I agree with you. I was wondering what was like putting me off about a lot of Super Bowl commercials and stuff like that. And you're exactly right. It's that they are giving me teaser trailers for a commercial. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:56 For something that is going to last like 30 seconds, 60 at most. On a day where, yes, most of us are sat for those, but there's a high probability that like some of these are going to be missed. You know what I mean? Even though it's become a big deal, like there was also something very fun about the complete surprise of it all. You know what I'm saying? Where you didn't know that all of a sudden there was going to be a little kid
Starting point is 01:02:24 dressed like Darth Vader trying to use the force on things and then he accidentally turns on the Volkswagen and he scares himself. Like, can you imagine being like for weeks it's like oh,
Starting point is 01:02:38 oh. And it just says like September, February 6th. And you're like, oh shit, Star Wars. And then you get there and it's Vader kidd you'd be like, bro this.
Starting point is 01:02:48 this Volkswagen Like all like you would be so it's it's it is getting to be a little too much It's not a hand It's getting a little out of hand I agree and especially knowing it You're already spending God knows how much money on this damn thing You're gonna spend even more just to tell me that we're getting another Uber Eats commercial With with Bradley Cooper like you know what I mean I know you are He is your spokesperson now I that makes logical sense I don't like so
Starting point is 01:03:14 And to be fair I understand like this is a great time to put out your ad and have it have that spectacle feel to it. And that's something I'm always talking about. We need to make movies feel like spectacles. We need to make them feel like events. Get people in theaters by giving them all that hype and everything. But when you bombard me with the messaging, it doesn't feel as special. Right.
Starting point is 01:03:35 Because I think that was the whole part of it, too, was the idea of, I don't know, what it feels like. Do you do anything for Valentine's Day? Usually we cook together. Okay. Sometimes we go out. Okay, okay. So I think one of the things that sometimes can, like, kill a surprise or romantic gesture, things like that is if you are talking about it so much and hyping it up so much that then when it gets here,
Starting point is 01:04:06 it doesn't, like, really meet expectation. You're like, oh, you don't even understand. I got you the greatest gift of all time. Like, you're going to see this instantly just drenched. You're just going to your mind just boom, just, you're just going to see. Like that meme where like the explosion to start is wow, oh my God. Like from that point on, you're going to be like, I'm going to love you forever. It's going to be the greatest thing of all time.
Starting point is 01:04:28 It could be the exact like puppy that she wanted and everything else. But if I've spent the last two months hyping it up, she's probably out here thinking, yo, did he get me a trip around the world with like, Michael B. Jordan? What could this possibly be? Yeah. And then you're only going to kind of like kill expectations. at that point, but like, if you just were like, baby, I got you something great, I can't wait. And then that was it.
Starting point is 01:04:54 And then when it's time, you put the spectacle in the actual presentation versus the buildup and the hype because those Budweiser commercials back in the day with the, like that, like, those were fun because it was just like, what the, that's wild. What is this? So, yeah. Commercials don't need foreplay. No, they really don't. Those are quickies.
Starting point is 01:05:15 Those are, those are, we're at the bar. be the car in five minutes. I'm gonna see you in the car five minutes. What's up indeed? Exactly. It's like it's, we're walking, we're walking out,
Starting point is 01:05:29 you know, in downtown Burbank, hey girl, yo, me me me in the back of the movie theater like five minutes. It's like, we go,
Starting point is 01:05:34 we know, me, me me me and Superman. Nobody goes to that movie apparently. I just walked by that caked a Batman statue. Let's go. Yo,
Starting point is 01:05:44 Batman thick with two Cs on that statue, bro, for no reason. Like, for no reason. the John Stewart one, I'm always just like, sure. Because it's John Stewart.
Starting point is 01:05:55 That's why that's exactly why. How Jordan's ass, just, flattered than the Joker's forehead. Just, just, just, well, with that, y'all, let us know what you think about this trend of putting the Supergirl stuff in the puppy bowl. And then obviously our divergent kind of conversation
Starting point is 01:06:17 about how we have overhyped Supergirls stuff. Bull commercials at this point and you would just like to have your commercials or apparently do you want three months of foreplay about the Uber Eats commercial that's coming. Let us know what you think in the comments. It's good to be right. That's what's up. Thank you so much to Ray Con and prize picks. Chris, do you do you do any sort of like prop bets or anything for the Super Bowl at all? I don't because I, as we've established, know nothing. You know what you should look into because a lot of people's Super Bowl parties do this and we do two. We do squares. So then it's It's a very simple bet where you just, they'll let you know how much each square cost.
Starting point is 01:06:54 And essentially, they make a grid of all of the numbers, zero to nine on one, like the ending numbers, and then zero to nine on the other side. And then you'll randomly, they won't put them, but most people won't put them before. They'll just put, you'll just have the grid. You'll write your name on however many pay for those boxes, then they'll randomly assign the numbers. And each quarter that the score ends, if it's say end seven, zero. then if you have seven on, you know, this team and zero on this one, then you win the square and you get the payout for that court. It's a really easy bet. It's completely random.
Starting point is 01:07:26 It's not. You don't have to think about it and go, hmm, how likely are the odds of a, damn, I went into a full Patrick Mahomes. Jesus Christ. How likely are the odds for safety? Sorry, my bad. Anyway, no, it's a lot of fun. And so I definitely recommend that. And I would also, you know, shout out to prize picks, though.
Starting point is 01:07:50 I'm probably going to be doing some prize picks myself. But I also have to just point out real quick before we get to these super chats, people are like, Drenst is just crazy. Someone said, damn Winston, doing his Barry White impression. That's, that's, that's, that's, go ahead and meet me in the back of his apartment in about five minutes. I know everybody's right here, but just just, just, five minutes is fun. I'm never going to get it on. Like, you know.
Starting point is 01:08:15 Patrick, what are you doing here? Well, I tore my ACL, so I'm not in the Super Bowl this time. So I just figured, you know, I would come and hit on you. One of my pals messaged me during the Muppets and was like, what is up with Kermit's voice? And I went through the whole thing with her. And then she was like, Patrick Mahomes sounds more like Kermit than this guy. Which is hilarious. I mean, that's the whole thing is that.
Starting point is 01:08:40 Because I wondered if you knew that, that like, yes, Patrick Mahomes is made fun of all the time for sounding like, like hermit the frog well you know we went out there trying to give 110 percent but it just really didn't work out this time you know and he had some really great plays uh you know Kelsey was out there getting open and whatnot but you know I just didn't make the play I needed to come to my leg up it happens you know but I'm gonna come back stronger next year going for that MVP going for another trophy I try to be Brady you know what it is all right uh see later yeah no for sure for sure I also damn that no wonder that if you guys said Patrick was or this new Kermit the Frog was off, bro.
Starting point is 01:09:21 That, that does a number on your voice. Jesus. It does a lot. Like that. Everyone, though. Okay. We'll get into this because I saw somebody wrote in about it. And I've got all, I have the lore dump.
Starting point is 01:09:31 This is, this is my special interest. So we will get into the Kermit the Frog voice when we get to that super chat. Yeah. You saw it. Okay. Okay. Yeah. So the goal, 105.
Starting point is 01:09:42 We're at 35. Very doable folks. keep sending them in, sending your questions, sending your comments, sending your support, help out capes and cows, kudos and cows, black guy and cows,
Starting point is 01:09:54 whatever you want to call it for this particular show, help us out. Greatly, greatly appreciate it. We'll start off with Negative Cloud 6, who became a new YouTube member. Thank you so much. Appreciate that. Hey, Mr. CJ,
Starting point is 01:10:08 coming in with its Friday, Caps and cows, roll out. Thank you so much, Mr. C.J. It's Raffes. Superman was disappointing. Like a bad episode of Justice League Unlimited.
Starting point is 01:10:20 Damn. Like a bad episode of Justice League Unlimited. Whoa. Were there bad episodes of Justice League Unlimited? Kind of sounds like an oxymoron. I was going to say, all of them were perfect to me, but. They're pretty damn good. I'm trying to think if there's one that I didn't like.
Starting point is 01:10:36 I don't think so. Jay Justice, because I was actually just rewatching this. There are ones that I would rather watch over others, but I don't actually think there was a bad episode personally. But, you know, everybody has their own, their own kind of takes on things. There was a season three. What? Oh, I guess there was.
Starting point is 01:10:57 I guess there was. I just always thought it was all season two. I guess not. And all kind of rolls together. Yeah. No, this, that was good. The Fearful Cemetery kid stuff. Now, I liked all of these, man.
Starting point is 01:11:09 My favorite actually, one of my favorites was the booster gold episode. That one was, there was so much. fun. It's so fun. The greatest story never told. It's so fun, man. Jeremy Piven coming in is a elastic man because, like, plastic man, I guess, like, gets destroyed. And so then they're like, we don't need too stretchy guys. It is like, anyway. All right. Keep it pushing. Christian Unproncible, support for Caves and Cows. Thank you so much. Appreciate that. Armada. Y'all watch The Paradise Show with Sterling Cape Brown. I have not seen it, but I've heard good things.
Starting point is 01:11:44 Winston, you gotta. Yeah? Yeah, don't look up anything about it. Okay. Don't look up a single damn thing and just go in. Just watch it. Yeah. Drenched or just like just really excited?
Starting point is 01:11:58 Like, wow, this show was really good. Yes. Okay. Okay. Okay. No, I know. But that's why I was asking. He's so pretty.
Starting point is 01:12:08 He's so pretty and so talented. But also, it is just a incredible. incredible show really well done all right i'm here for it i'm here for it um uh go pal is normally what is thing i again the the the changeover but uh in fairness the 35 day window for soups was uh pvod gotcha i mean yes that is true and i and so what warner brother gets more of your 25 dollars from pvod than the theater yep which is also true yes that is why netflix would also be pushing that though i don't think netflix when they do that you just get It is part of the service.
Starting point is 01:12:44 There's no, I don't, they do PVOD, do they? No, Netflix doesn't. It's when you can get it on stuff like HBO
Starting point is 01:12:49 or something, I think, where you have the additional fee occasionally. Mm-hmm. Well, that, I guess that was the thing.
Starting point is 01:12:56 I don't think, when Superman came out, I don't think it was on HBO Max right away, right? It was, you had to go rent it from either,
Starting point is 01:13:03 like, Prime or Apple or whatever. There was no, so. Yeah, so, and then, but $25 covers
Starting point is 01:13:10 everyone in your house, not one ticket. I mean, yeah, agree, but I stand by what I was saying about you are going to start siloing people more than you already have. So from the idea of this type of stuff was meant to bring us all together, you're going to kind of kill that.
Starting point is 01:13:29 And when you're in a world already where like we've, we've joked about or just mentioned how A, Gen Z, I guess is not super into sex. Like there's like studies that have come out about that. but B, there was another study that came out of like, they want to see movies about people just like making friends, which was like depressing his shit, being like, I just want to have a friend.
Starting point is 01:13:52 And everything is the internet. Everything is TikTok. We're not actually talking to each other as people and putting time of people. The idea of, okay, you're just kind of, like, shit, bro. Like, I don't know about you, but the whole reason I was able to find my other half is because I was out doing things with people.
Starting point is 01:14:09 And then there she was in that group of people that I was doing things. with. I think that this is going to further silo us away from each other. Absolutely. Well, you know, Logan got with me because of light stalking, but yeah. That is true. I did know that. But you had to, but he did that through other people that you were socializing with. We had to go out and do things. Yeah. And him be like, girl, I'm going to wear you down. And he did. Oh, God. That is not how you make friends and or fight as it didn't even other, but Apparently,
Starting point is 01:14:48 no, Armada. Just me. Just me. We need more pilot sloshbuckle movies. Hey man, I'm not a big pirate person, but like I, the pirates movies were fun though. So I'm here for it. I hear that. Pat for president, a third of the year.
Starting point is 01:15:06 What's a third of the year? Or, oh, he became a member again. Oh, nice. Oh, yeah. Thank you, Pat for president. I appreciate that. I was like, that's a weird comment. What does that mean?
Starting point is 01:15:19 41 we're at 41 keep it pushing y'all we can do this armada favorite texas restaurants austin has some great stuff just from austin love me some salt lick yeah salt lick salt lick um used to love water burger the quality has gone down like crazy yeah um but a lot of places have but i do love it um do you you're from austin so i went to school in austin but i'm from a town called the woodlands outside of Houston. Do the woodlands. Okay. But I didn't realize you were more Houston than Austin.
Starting point is 01:15:53 Yeah. But I lived in Austin for four years. Well, like three and a half because I did the Disney internship in Florida. But man, like Hacian, if that's still there, is a great date spot because you go get s'mores. You do table side s'mores. That's super fun. Elephant Room was a really cool place, like not a restaurant, but it was like a bar where
Starting point is 01:16:12 you could go listen to jazz underground, which was rad. Salt Lake I'd second. South Congress Cafe. Kirby Cafe, if you want that. caseo um nice and then um yeah yeah i was gonna say fair fair uh snuffers is a great one it's like kind of a uh i don't know if they had that down in houston or austin but it was kind of like a burger joint kind of diner place like on like a larger scale it kind of has a little bit of a sports bar vibe to it um i was a big fan i mean hillstone has kind of been the hillstone group
Starting point is 01:16:48 has kind of gone nationwide for a while now, but like Houston's came out of there and Houston's just be one of my favorite restaurants for a long time. I just have to think about it. There's a few other ones that would pop it in my head, but like Salt Lake is probably one of the more famous ones that people know out of Austin and whatnot. It's like that in Franklin's as kind of always in like a duel for who's the best barbecue. Oh, God, I shifted my Adams apple. That was horrible. Oh, no. It'll be okay. It's not happy with me right now. Right of me. as just a quick support for the Friday crew. Thank you so, so much.
Starting point is 01:17:22 Also another new member, Running Dude 2-1-2, which I believe I saw earlier. The Running Man said that they got the membership to watch the Demon Slayer reaction. Thank you so much, man. That's awesome. I'm so happy to hear that. I believe Running Dude was the one that said that.
Starting point is 01:17:43 Christian Unpronounceable. Here's the Black History, Mom. That's what's up. Let's see Ray Dominguez One super chat Towards 40 acres in a moot You goddamn rat
Starting point is 01:17:54 Please keep sending those in a mule is very expensive As a matter of fact I wonder what the going rate for a mule is right now Let's see What is the going rate for a mule According to AI The price for a mule
Starting point is 01:18:19 Wiley ranges with the going rate typically ranging from a few hundred dollars for an unworked or older animal to over 10K for a well-trained quality mule while some top-performing mules sell for over 40K. Got a lot of work to do, y'all. Let's get that top-performing mule money. Come out. Top, top-performing. Yo, absolutely. Or just another 66 superchets. That's fine, too.
Starting point is 01:18:48 We don't have to be able to 48K, just 66 Super Jets work for sure. Pat for president. Support Train. Thank you so much. Thank you. Greg Scott Bailey. Did you all see Ian McKellen on Colbert? So fun.
Starting point is 01:19:01 I did not. I have not yet. I'm excited to. Yeah. Oh, dude, that would be amazing. Let's see. Will Coyote 753 support from Canada? Thank you so much.
Starting point is 01:19:13 Will Coyote, appreciate you. Go, pal. Winston needs. a red shirt to complete his red, black, and green liberation outfit that he could have been saving for just the proper occasion. Look, I didn't think about it, but I'm about to wear the most bliggity black shit for the rest of the month, man. I swear to God, I'm going to do it.
Starting point is 01:19:33 As a matter of fact, if I have something in here right now, I can, oh, I'll just, here, read this next one. Give me a second. You read this. Okay. So from Jay Morgan 3977, hey, Chris, hi. You said last week that you do a New Zealand accent. I try.
Starting point is 01:19:49 That's funny because there's a New Zealand band called The Beths, whose lead singer reminds me of you. Ooh, okay, let me look up the Beths. The Beths. I always like getting new music anyway. Oh, that's really, really nice. She's a pituity. We're not with Banks, yeah. There's a lead singer who somebody is reminded of.
Starting point is 01:20:10 Like, I remind them of this gal. And she's precious. Oh, I'm going to have to check out their music. Oh, thank you very much, Jay Morgan. That's super complimentary to me. I appreciate that. Nice. Well, what I decided, at least for right now, is that since I needed to have something to rep Black History Month and whatnot, I was going, I was gifted this at the end of the Schmowdown since I was kind of like the main one that helped push out like a black cinema slice on the thing.
Starting point is 01:20:38 So I'm just going to hold this. I was gifted the black cinema slice when we shut it all down. So I'm just going to hold this for the rest of the episode. And that'll be my thing. And the next time I'll worry about my. my outfit for sure. But, okay, the Beths, you said. Let me look this up.
Starting point is 01:20:54 The Beths, yeah. It sounds like, oh, yeah, I see it. I can see it. She's like a cousin of yours. Yeah. Very cute. Check out her music. I am partial to,
Starting point is 01:21:08 We are the future, Charles, not them. Oh, quotes from the X-Men. Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. That, oh, man, you would have been good at the, the quote slice. That's the way to go. Dude, I constantly am just like, why did I not know Harloff back then? Yeah, dude. When did you meet?
Starting point is 01:21:30 When did you meet him? I didn't, I did not meet him in person until like a year ago, maybe two years ago. He met Logan before he met me. He ran into Logan at CinemaCon and was like, oh, Chris Carr's husband. What's up? That's wild. Yeah. I thought you guys knew each other for years.
Starting point is 01:21:46 I had no idea. I don't know anybody. I am barely on the internet. I don't know anyone in our sphere. That's why I keep every time I'm like, oh, Luke, hi, nice to meet you. Like, I don't know anyone. I'm so, I'm so internet dumb.
Starting point is 01:22:00 I feel like I'm regressing. I feel like I knew a lot and now I'm kind of going backwards, but I don't know. Pat for president, no browser histories for harm to the baking of the stream. None of the ones you all have access to. Matt Krugman. Chris was right.
Starting point is 01:22:17 on the money with those Snyderverse scores with the guitar riffs and the Lion Earth did roar from the Snyder cut is a blessing to the ears. The Lion cut roar. The Lion Earth did roar. I don't know if I know that specifically. I'll have to look that up after the show. But I loved. I loved the junkie Excel scoring. So I'm yeah, super here.
Starting point is 01:22:39 Peter Stone. Superman was a hit. The end. Ted S. Literally called it a hit last month. Congress literally called that along with Minecraft and F1, but it was conveniently not clipped. Okay. I was wondering about this because I was like, didn't we report on how it was doing good numbers too, like on those digital downloads and didn't it?
Starting point is 01:23:00 Okay. Because also, I can't keep track of all the things we cover you guys. I'm sorry. I'm a goldfish. But man, I did feel like I was taking crazy pills. Okay. Yep, yep, yep. I get it.
Starting point is 01:23:14 The G man. Hi there, some support for you too. Thank you, man. You're a real one, man. Real one. Tribal chief, the article leaves out that Superman still was doing numbers after I went to digital something this show covered. Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.
Starting point is 01:23:32 I appreciate everybody kind of calling that out as well. But, yeah, no, no, no. Michael DA 81, support for the lovely Chris and Winston. Thank you so much. We appreciate it. Forty-four, y'all. on we can do this we still got 30 minutes um pat for president what are some super bowl commercials that live rent free in your memories the good the bad and the cringy um that's a great question
Starting point is 01:23:59 do you got any that come to mind i'm trying to think of specific ones but okay look anything that has a baby talking like a like adult speech you get out of here you get out of here with that haunted nonsense i hate it i hate it so much bleh yeah yeah Um, which ones? Let's see. The was-zap ones were always. I mean, really all of the Bud Light ones for a while, the Wasap, um, the Budweiser frogs were good. Um, the first few, uh, uh, you're not yourself when you're, when you're, when you're, when you're hungry.
Starting point is 01:24:35 Yeah. The stickers ones, yeah. No, there, there have been some good ones over the years. I'm really partial to the Doritos, uh, that I did two. three. I did three to crash the Super Bowl Doritos commercials. One where I was cast in one and it was really, really
Starting point is 01:24:53 like high production value. And then two that I one that I wrote, started and directed, produced and one where my roommate wrote and directed and then I produced and was also in. I'm very partial to both of them. I thought that they were
Starting point is 01:25:09 genius. I thought that they should have made at the Super Bowl. One of them, we got a oh, hey, you know, you're, You've made it to the next round of stuff. We'll get back to you if another thing ever came about that. I'd never heard another thing whatsoever. But at least I was like, oh, I made it at least through some of the noise. I really, really like that.
Starting point is 01:25:30 You know what? If we hit our goal today, the 106, I will play that commercial. I haven't buried here. Yay! Okay. It was a lot of fun for sure. But yeah, yeah, let's see. Let's see.
Starting point is 01:25:44 Go about. One of the Cheetos ad had Ashton, Mila, and Shaggy. What if the Cheetos that had Ashton, I don't think I know who Ashton Miller is. Like Ashton and Milakunis? Oh. Shaggy. And then Shaggy, the singer? Did they do a, oh, they did that before, didn't they?
Starting point is 01:26:08 It wasn't me? Cheetos. Yeah, there was one of those. I remember this in 2021. It was like, did you get like Cheetos on the thing? Yeah, I remember this. I remember this. Yeah, that was good.
Starting point is 01:26:25 That was good. Pat for President, I loved Wonder Man a lot, a show full of heart. It really, really, really, really did. Really, really had a lot of heart. Obscure favorite movie minus Cecil B. Demented. Oh. I don't know that movie. Look that up.
Starting point is 01:26:45 obscure movie. Santa Conquers the Martians is really weird and fun. Velasapaster. Velasapaster, yes. Oh, I would also then put in Wolfcop. Wolf cop, nice. Yeah, Wolfcop Blood Diner. Hell yeah.
Starting point is 01:27:03 Hell yeah. Pat for president, Trevor and Simon's friendship is so awesome. It really is. I think that that was the main thing that made the show so much fun is the fact that it was a really great friendship to watch for sure. Go pal The trepidation When the Volkswagen
Starting point is 01:27:20 Ad starts with black and white Footage of a Beetle And you're not sure If the guy with the silly mustache Will show up I don't think I know that one Is that a Black and white
Starting point is 01:27:34 Is that a reference to Adolf? What? Wait Wait Wait Wait Wait Wait
Starting point is 01:27:41 Wait Because a guy with silly mustache I'm like That could be so many people but okay it says when you say trepidation for the 2024 super bowl ad Volkswagen released a 75th anniversary campaign an American love story featuring a black and white nostalgic scenes highlighted in 1949 the arrival of the beetle in the U.S. which premiered ahead of the game showcases the brands history and transitions to the modern electric classic
Starting point is 01:28:06 I don't remember this commercial I haven't see it maybe it's a new one um oh no this is in It's 2024. Oh, it's 2024? Okay, never mind, never mind. Mm-hmm. I remember I had to coach a bunch of people for those Volkswagen ads, and they went with someone with, like, weird vocal fry. All the breakdowns said they wanted somebody who sounded like Oprah, and I was coaching
Starting point is 01:28:25 all these amazing women with incredible deep voices. And then they picked someone who went, before it can change the world, it has to change yours. The all-new, all-electric Volkswagen. And I was like, oh, no, no! No! The all-new Volkswagen! Yeah, that's what I wanted.
Starting point is 01:28:42 Yeah, I know. I know, I know. Oh, man. Dark Smirk, thoughts on Kermit voice. It sounded off to me. Let's go into the deep lore, people. Okay. So, since 2017, Matt Vogel has been voicing Kermit. This is after Steve Whitmire, who'd been voicing this since Jim's passing, and he was Jim's protege, has been voicing Kermit the Frog since Muppet Christmas Carol up until 2017 when he had a falling out and was dismissed by the company, both, Brian and Lisa Henson were not happy with his work at this point anymore. There were some allegations about him being difficult to work with, et cetera, et cetera.
Starting point is 01:29:19 Now, Matt Vogel is an incredible Muppet performer. We're talking Uncle Deadly. We're talking Sweetums. We're talking Bidbert. We're talking the Count. We're talking Robin. Lou Zealand. Crazy Harry.
Starting point is 01:29:31 All these guys. And he has an excellent Kermit singing voice. And I will posture that he is getting much better at the Kermit speaking voice. He's also delivering on all of like the Kermit idiosync idiosyncyncrasies. The voice is just lower. than what we're used to. But nailing that Kermit singing voice is really difficult. And I think he's always done a good job.
Starting point is 01:29:50 But all my friends, y'all keep out in yourselves of having not watched Muppet content for the past decade because he's been doing it since 2017. So we got to give him a little bit of grace because Steve Whitmire also supposedly did not allow an understudy. Whereas Jim Henson, like, taught him and like coached him and prepared him to take on the Kermit mantle. That was another issue here is they didn't have an understanding. understudy for years for Kermit because supposedly St. Whitmire was very, very clear that he was the one and only
Starting point is 01:30:18 Kermit. So I think Matt Vogel is doing a really nice job. And I think that like, like everyone, like, whenever we have a new Doctor Who, we freak out at the beginning, right? Oh, that's not my doctor. They're not doing it the way I like. I like the last person more. And then by the time they leave, we typically are like, oh, no, my doctor. We're going to get there with Matt Vogel. Give him some time. That was transformative. I could know so much math. Bro, just watching to you talk about your passion, I was like, oh, drenched. Hey, hey. Path for president. I like the
Starting point is 01:30:58 Dorman episode. PG-13, Josh Gadd is good. Dude, I thought that was so late. J-Gad, not J-Gad, like, which is, I got to ask this question because as I was watching this, I was like, that is such a random poll. where did Josh Gad come from? I feel like he just appeared out of nowhere and then he kind of disappeared just as quickly and I was just like I don't understand
Starting point is 01:31:20 where this all like but I guess he was a Broadway guy is that what it was? He's a Broadway guy, yeah. So like the thing that kind of launched him for most people was Book of Mormon. And then he had really great small stints on TV if you were a new girl fan.
Starting point is 01:31:35 He was Bearclaw. I remember that. I remember that. I remember that. I actually rewatch the wedding ringer randomly. With, you know, and that,
Starting point is 01:31:45 but again, it just, it feels like in a lot of cases with other actors, they kind of appear over time. He just seemed to come out of nowhere, but it makes sense. The only actors that seem to come purely out of nowhere tend to be Broadway people. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:58 So if you're not in that sphere at all, then it's just like, who is this person? Just like, because they don't ever start off in like those smaller co-star, whatever buildup, they, get launched into like a major character on SVU is like the villain that time or all of a sudden
Starting point is 01:32:15 they get a reoccurring guest star you're like where did you come from they're olaf and frozen and you go what who why huh what the hell yeah he was also in that um anne hathaway and jillen hall movie what was that um love and other drugs okay i think that was i think that was the first time i saw him in something on like screen i was like this guy's fun have you seen the video of him and Jennifer Lewis just talking shit and doing impressions of each other backstage
Starting point is 01:32:46 I want to say it was on the wedding ringer and they're like this right here is no they're trying to talk to me I know that this fucking didn't just call me it could be like oh dude
Starting point is 01:32:56 I watch that at least once a month because that is hilarious to me that and his clip about acting like you've smelled a fart to be like suspicious for the Orient Express oh it's great where he's like all you have to do
Starting point is 01:33:10 is act like you're trying to figure out who farted, where you just, the camera comes up to him and he's like, I'm like, that's it. That's all, that's all. That's actually really, I'm going to steal that. Right. Really good. Oh my God.
Starting point is 01:33:27 What do you do when you're trying to figure out who farted, but you're only one in the room? Super Vash 4372 want to show some black history love from one brother to the next. Do you watch Dragon Ball? What do I watch Dragon? Damn! Damn! Just right deal. And if so, what do you think about it returning?
Starting point is 01:33:53 I am ecstatic about it returning, especially because we're getting the Galactic Patrol slash Moro arc, which I have been patiently waiting for, for so many different reasons. So I cannot wait for that. Hopefully it continues on to that. And also, I know that it sounds like the manga is finally coming back as well. I really need to see what's going to happen with Black Freeza, all that stuff. I can't wait, man. so I am geeking out.
Starting point is 01:34:17 Go, pal. The Raiders tried to troll Mahomes with a Kermick doll, and Pat just said it'll get handled when it gets handled a year or two ago, so it got handled. Damn. Damn. Yeah, the Raiders are, they do have the number one pick. They were dog doo-doo this year, man.
Starting point is 01:34:33 Ooh, Lord of Jesus. R.L. Jensen 3, Super Bowl ads have lost that spark because they drop early or entirely on YouTube. Love you guys. Thank you so much for the support. Appreciate that. We love you, too, and I agree. I fully agree.
Starting point is 01:34:46 The surprise is gone. So, you know. Papua President, have you watched gameplay from Marvel Spider-Man 2? The Musical History Museum missions and musical museum. Musical museum is a really neat part of the game. It centers around the Harlem Renaissance artists and poets. I started playing the game. I mentioned this.
Starting point is 01:35:06 I want to say last show when I was cat sitting a friend's cat. And then when he came back, I was like, can I borrow your piece? five, he goes, no, get out of my house. So, like, I have not finished the game. I didn't get to those missions. Have you, have you seen those? Yeah, yeah, we've played through and everything. Good.
Starting point is 01:35:24 I really want you to be able to finish that game, man. Well, it's so good. It's so good. Yeah. This next one, I'm going to ask you, did you, have you seen the weather woman or the news anchor woman who, like, will read the comments that she gets, uh, randomly in her like news anchor voice.
Starting point is 01:35:48 It'll like she'll be, she'll be, it'll be like, uh, that news anchor is bigger than a, is thicker than a bowl of oatmeal. Oh. Like that or she'll be like, it'll be like, man, she is thick with two C's. He's at 11. Like all that. Well, this, here's, here's one for you right now. Oh, can I read it in the voice?
Starting point is 01:36:06 Three. Please do. At movie gun 23, didn't realize Chris was a pog. Good for her. that was i did not know i could do a scooby laugh that's wild um dude you might have a secondary job career opportunity as a as a news anchor that was really good i keep trying to i've only played one once which is crazy to me um i love that heard happily like is in the guy the actor that does that is the news anchor for everything whether it be serious or comedic he they get tired for every
Starting point is 01:36:44 news anchor job on TV. Well, that guy only will do news anchors is my understanding. He's just like, yeah. Hey, you found a niche. Why not? But thank you for letting me know that I am a fat-ass white girl. I too have been described as thicker than a bowl of oatmeal and I appreciates it. That's the best part about that meme.
Starting point is 01:37:12 It's like, and then the client said she is thicker than a bowl of oatmeal. He's in his jumpsuit with the fucking handcuffs on at the table. And he goes, Justin Bishop 97 for Chris, what do you think of the woodlands when you live there? I live next door in Shenoda. Shenandoah. Shenandoah. The mall there and Market Street were fantastic.
Starting point is 01:37:37 Oh, yeah. Market Street's amazing. So I moved there in the early 90s when it was nothing where our fanciest restaurants were outbacked steakhouse and hideans. And then obviously it really grew and kind of blew up. It's always been its own little bubble. But I enjoyed my time there. It's very, very cute. I understand why people go there to raise families.
Starting point is 01:38:02 It's not for me, ultimately. Yeah. Fair. I just want to say that things that made me. laugh just on this whole Paul is first of all not laugh but yeah Chris fine I thought we all
Starting point is 01:38:17 agreed to this and then right ro shaggy and then hey I think that's meant to say poggs make the world go around which is also very true and one more drenched yeah there you go okay so that was the Woodlands question
Starting point is 01:38:33 private president my cat Luna says hi to the crew what's up Luna hi Luna if I think age has taken her post-break this nap, which is hilarious. She wakes up with an aggression, tackles everybody, goes out to pee, eats her breakfast in about 10 seconds, and then passes out for like three hours. Aw, I've got my very old one. This is Gimli. He's the 15-year-old. No, he's the best. I do love this in Gimli, man. He's sweet. He's very cross right now where he's like, why? Did you just wake me up? That's why I'm leaving Asia lunches in the other room.
Starting point is 01:39:03 Go now. When I visited my sister in Austin, she tried to kill me with a peanut butter protein, The day we were going to Salt Lake, but it was good, I was still good on Benadry. Okay, good. I would hate for you to miss Salt Lake off of a peanut butter bar. That would be wild as hell. What? Hell no. Ian McKellen's monologue of Shakespeare, 100, fire, fire, fire.
Starting point is 01:39:23 Oh, was that on Colbert? We got to watch. Yeah, I got to watch. Man, love him. I really want to go to his bar in London. That is one of my, like, bucket list things. I want to go to the grape. Okay.
Starting point is 01:39:35 All right. I didn't know he had a bar. I would love to be good too. Ryan sending love and support for Minneapolis. Thank you so much, Ryan, and please continue to be safe. I know things are still kind of wild out there. So please, please take care of yourself. Karen, claps for Black History Month.
Starting point is 01:39:50 Thank you so much. Thank you, thank you, Karen. Appreciate that. We're at 54 people. It is still doable. We got about 11 minutes left, so let's get her done. Legend M.M. 600. Ha, ha.
Starting point is 01:40:02 My top five bands. Green Day. Blink 182. Metallica, Ozzie, and Rage Against the Machine. what's some of yours love you two go hawks yep yep yep yep yep um favorite bands um bands are just music if we're gonna go bands i'll let you go first give me give me a second to to think about it and i'll leave i'll leave rap groups and stuff out of it because i'm assuming bands is including like rock pop something like that so yeah um these days i'm listening to a lot of lorence boys go to
Starting point is 01:40:31 Jupiter. Who else have I been listening to on repeat? Couch. I listen to like a lot of like folk indie pop kind of stuff. Because it's nice and whimsical. Okay. I'll feel that. Let's see.
Starting point is 01:40:49 Lincoln Park, Incubis. I was a big fan of Blink 182. I do love me some rage against the machine. And why don't we say? You know, it's kind of a boy slash man band, but we'll go, we'll go boys to men. No. Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 01:41:09 That counts. Fosho. Pat for president, ever watched Sanford and say, hell yeah. Of course. Sadly lost Dem and Wheels. Oh, I didn't know that. Oh, man. We losing recipes.
Starting point is 01:41:23 Damn. Go, pal. The beetle was the people's car in 1938, so black and white. Ah. Makes sense. That makes sense. Yeah. Smell the fart acting is Joey Tribiani, right?
Starting point is 01:41:35 Yes, it is. I forgot about that. Yeah, no, I definitely forgot about that. That's funny. Pat for president, the going rate for 40 acres varies wildly. That's a good point. Going rate for four, it just depends on where it is. Let's say in California, because that's where I live.
Starting point is 01:41:58 The going rate for 40 acres in California varies drastically based on location, ranging from as low as 65k to 150K for remote off-grid parcels in areas like Bridgeville or Hayfork to over 200 to 250K for more accessible land and counties like Calvarez and Toulomb. That could be Toulomb, but it's spelled really weird. All right, so we'll split the difference here. So let's see, 250 plus 65-hondo, 3-fittine. Okay. Well, you're doing math, Winston.
Starting point is 01:42:34 I'm going to plug my camera in. 175.50. Okay, we have a lot of superchats to get in order to get 100 and 100. One, sorry, 157, 500. So, yeah, we got a lot of work to do, guys. Let's do it. Paige, hi, guys. Can we get the shirt off?
Starting point is 01:42:54 We got a tease, please. Can we get the shirt off? That's for you. Oh. You showed you. your chest. Oh, oh, wow. 106. We hit 106. And the next eight minutes, I will show commercial. And I will show.
Starting point is 01:43:10 Paige, we appreciate a thirst, super chat. Let's go. That's all. Everybody loves it. Bro, you will pog, everybody trying to see my chest gains. Like, we out here in these streets, man, Cooters and cows. You already know what it is. Bad for president. Per Google AI, 40 acres, ranges between 40 and 400.
Starting point is 01:43:29 Okay, there you go. So yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're down. We're down for the cause. Mr. Nubbs' drunken tavern. A brother's trying to get into V-O. What time do you guys have support? Ooh, what time?
Starting point is 01:43:45 What advice? What about getting into VO? Maybe, maybe plug your thing. Go ahead and plug your thing out. Yeah, okay. So that's a great way. Hell yeah. SpeakFriendsudio.com is where I teach voiceover classes
Starting point is 01:43:57 and my husband teaches breath and dialect classes. Now, if you are going to have like a dip your toe into voiceover, just go to I Want to Be a Voiceover.com or I Want to Be a Voice Actor.com. D. Bradley Baker's site. It's great. It's free. It has got so much good information. You work with me or my husband. We do everything over Zoom. Also, if you can't get in a class, there are so many wonderful videos on YouTube. Vanity Fair has this incredible series where they have voice actors improvising. characters, which I highly recommend. There's a great book called The Art and Business of Voice Acting for Video Games. That's a great read. There's a ton and ton of resources out there. And honestly, just watch cartoons and play video games and listens to commercials with that kind of actor mindset and see where you would fit into the landscape. Here's a follow-up to that super chat for context. We've already turned the closet into a sound booth kind of.
Starting point is 01:44:54 Okay. So then I come back to, are you taking classes? Are you like networking? Are you, did you get all the equipment, but have you got the acting chops? Because great acting is what's going to win the day. Having the setup and everything is fantastic. Having a nice soundproofed or sound dampened room is really, really excellent. But we need to make sure you got those chops. So get in a class. Start studying.
Starting point is 01:45:17 That's the next big thing. There you go. There you go. All right. So from there, impression of Trevor Slattery. I don't know if I have it off. rip. I know just as a well-trained season via artist, maybe you do, but I would need to, like, hear him a couple times in recent memory. He's got that back of the throat kind of British delivery
Starting point is 01:45:42 and we'll talk about box breathing. I'm not great at his voice. Logan's excellent at that one. My RP is more Mary Poppins up here, a little brighter, that sort of thing. Yeah, he's got that nice little like texture and back of the throat delivery where he's got a little bit out warble because he's also done so many drugs. So many drugs. Shout out to the Blazing Keys. Happy black history,
Starting point is 01:46:12 Mon Winston. Appreciate it, brother. You too. Chill. We need more black characters as a lead and not a joke. Anime and video games included, for instance.
Starting point is 01:46:24 Final Fantasy is Barrett, but the main focus is Cloud. Would love to see a black character as the main in that game. Absolutely, man. I, I, the ultimate issue is the era that we're in, people are throwing hissy fits about things like Yuske, even though he was a real person that they decided to include in,
Starting point is 01:46:40 in Assassin's Creed. So then all of a sudden, there was a, I don't know if it was the next Assassin's Creed or another game that was like, literally the Klan was the bad guy. They're like, no, that's too divisive. We can't have the Klan be bad guys. What's that? Oh, oh, God. Well, who would have thought?
Starting point is 01:46:59 That's crazy. We can't do that. So I agree with you. The problem is, again, the world we currently live in today. Go check out Cannon Busters. That didn't get enough love. That only got one season. Okay.
Starting point is 01:47:11 I'll check that out for sure. Armada J. Cole album is huge. It's pretty good. Yeah, it's always like a double disc, though. I think they're named like dis 29 and 39 instead of like one and two, which is interesting. But I saw on Twitter as I was going to bed, people were like, hey, yo. So I can't wait. It's going to be the soundtrack for the weekend for sure.
Starting point is 01:47:29 sure. That was the second one about the sound booth. Andy Sierfansky, music or movie slash shows, which is at a bigger impact on your life? Music has gotten me through some pretty rough times, more so than movies and shows. I think I'd probably say movies and shows, partially because of what I do for a living. And maybe even just where I'm at now, music is still so, so vital. And it got me also my formative years. There's so much stuff with music.
Starting point is 01:48:08 But I think if you combo what I do for a living with the fact that I have been quoting stuff left and right since I can remember, I think it's probably movies and shows for me. What about you? Yeah, movies and shows definitely had the bigger impact and were more impressionable to me. But music is so intrinsically tied to the best moments of my life where it's, Those little things of like, oh, this really great memory has a soundtrack to it. Yeah. So yeah. Dude, we have an annual, my friend group has an annual trip to Palm Springs.
Starting point is 01:48:48 And, you know, we named the trip because we used to go on this, like, drinking thing in Vegas or whatever called Waka-Palooza. and then when we decided we were done doing that and we want to do our own thing the song Wopap had just come out so we call it Wapapalooza like instead and like so again music is everywhere everywhere everywhere everywhere
Starting point is 01:49:13 everywhere everywhere Let's see we got a couple more Oh we got plenty of most let's see Aiden, Dutrie Hey showing some support for the Friday crew Thank you so much Hey Chris what are your thoughts on the new VA for Kermit We talked about this a little bit
Starting point is 01:49:28 You can go back and check that out. New since 2017, y'all. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Armada, still trying to figure out what the crossover name for the filthy casuals and blurds pod would be. Hmm. I mean, casual blurds just sound weird. Yeah. Filtly swag was one that came up before for just us.
Starting point is 01:49:53 Yeah. Maybe like casuals in the hood. Oh, shit. It might be casuals in the hood. We're going to just go like the whitest girls you know, because Amy and I are translucent. We look like we've been trapped at the bottom of a well for years. Fair, fair.
Starting point is 01:50:14 These are not super chats, but I just, since we're kind of now in this realm, I wanted to point these back out of both a, Chris knows what a pog me. She's a goater too. And of course, this is indeed a fact. Thick dives save lives. That is legitimate. There should be more public service announcements about it.
Starting point is 01:50:34 That's actually what the only Super Bowl commercial that I would like to see. Yeah. Just someone coming straight to camera and being like every year. Take dive. Thives. Save lives. Do your part. This brought to you by the... Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 01:50:48 It's brought to you by the Winston A. Marshall loves him some pogs. His association. Go pal. I feel like Trevor was doing McCartney's cruise. Scouse. Scouse. What is, oh, like, oh, that's the, that's the dialect. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:51:04 Okay, got it, got it, got it, got it. That kind of like Liverpoolian kind of situation. Yeah, I can see that. Yeah. Word, word, word, word. Cross season two hype, still need to finish season one. I don't think I know it's cross. Alex Cross?
Starting point is 01:51:19 Oh, maybe, maybe, probably. I haven't watched any of it. I really, I got to get better about watching all these shows, y'all. I'm just catching up on hijack, like. I haven't started that yet. I just went through and, like, added a whole bunch of Apple TV shows to my thing. So, you know.
Starting point is 01:51:33 Winston, did you see the John Likens Raphael clip? I did not yet. Here's what I'm doing. I'm adding it. I just forgot when we got off the show because I ended up having to run. Okay, I got it now. There's a test footage. It is now open on the browser.
Starting point is 01:51:52 I'll watch it as soon as we wrap. And I will report back next week. Core number, Farsight or Black Street, different, but still. Far Side. Very different, but Far Side. I love Black Street, but Farside. You? Not sure?
Starting point is 01:52:06 Great, no worries. All good. Recommend Don Tolover Octane album. It's so good. Oh, okay. Awesome. Thoughts on Fall Out so far. I've liked it.
Starting point is 01:52:16 I haven't seen the finale yet. I know the finale dropped like two days ago or something like that. Yeah. I really like it. I really like it. Mostly because it goes back to what we were talking about with Marvel with Wonder Man. I love how this is a really great character study this season, particularly about Coop.
Starting point is 01:52:33 And a lot of just like gray area, what's right, what's wrong kind of stuff. It's been really interesting. Yeah. Okay. All right. Pat for president. Imagine Simon, Trevor, Shang Chi, Katie, Zusha Ling, and Wong on screen together. That'd be a fun dynamic.
Starting point is 01:52:50 That is true. I'd love it. That would be a fun dynamic. All of them at karaoke. Hold on wrapping up. And then. Cross stars, Alice Hodge from Blackout. Yes, I'm a very familiar with Thomas.
Starting point is 01:53:04 He's a great, great, awesome homie. I don't know him, like, crazy person, but my sister worked on a show with him as one of the writers on staff, so I've met him a few times. Very, very nice guy. Awesome. Well, we got close.
Starting point is 01:53:17 I will say probably my favorite part of it is that we ended on 69. So that was, so Cooters and Cal's won in a way. Not in the way that we necessarily wanted to, but we won in a way. Chris, one more time, plug your stuff for the 4.5. All right, well, head on over to speakfriendstudio.com.
