Starting point is 00:00:29 Good morning. Well, I guess it's not morning anymore. I guess it's afternoon. Afternoon, everybody, on the Monday edition of The Big Thing. So I wanted to make sure that a couple stories kind of came out. I got another little short. I've been doing a lot of shorts on the channel lately and ticking up the short game on the Instagram and TikTok and all that stuff. So I wanted to put one out there this morning, but I wanted to get the big thing out today because there's a lot of great news that hit a few of the topics that will cover today. Obviously, the Golden Globes.
Starting point is 00:00:59 their nominations, some surprising and I think well-deserved nominations came inside. And is that a is that an indication of what we could see at the Oscars? Sometimes it usually is. So we'll see. James Gunn had a lot to deal with this weekend, man, and there was some talk on whether or not what we're going to do here as far as Superman. And he said, Superman is a high priority. We'll talk about that for sure. We knew that he, Henry Cavill at least, is how does he fit into the plans? I don't know. We'll have to speculate if you will. There's also, speaking of Henry, McAvel, he made his appearance in Black Adam. The Rock had some ups and downs with Black Adam,
Starting point is 00:01:35 had to defend himself. Did it make a profit? Did it not make a profit? Whatever it might be. There's another sequel, Hobbs and Shaw, that apparently is not going to get a sequel. Now, that's one that I thought would happen. I thought it did well enough,
Starting point is 00:01:49 so we'll kind of dive into that report. Speaking of sequels, Avatar, The Way of Water, that movie is coming out right around the corner, and it's projected to do very, very well. And even, look, James Cameron's been talking about number three, number four, and number five, apparently, is going to go back to Earth. Is it a good idea? Is it a bad idea? We'll talk about that and more on today's episode of The Big Thing. So thanks for joining me here today.
Starting point is 00:02:15 If you haven't already, please subscribe to the channel. We are at almost 61,000 on the channel at the moment. Trying to get to 70 by the end of the year, probably going to be pretty tough. But who knows, with the Avatar reviews coming out and everything, too, maybe we'll welcome some new people into the show. but once we do, we're going to start really looking into that live tour. And we're going to be doing some stand-up. I posted a little short clip of mine stand-up, and I love to do that for both Brett and Kate once we get on the road
Starting point is 00:02:40 and start doing some stuff and some other friends and whatnot. I know that Winston and Coy have been talking about doing more stand-up, so we'll be doing that hopefully in 20-23. This is fun, by the way. I wanted to let you guys know this. Got the one-on-one sessions that I've been really enjoying. Got a rewatch of Avatar about to hit really soon and more. You guys can suggest reviews that I do on that. on that channel that are just for patrons. So head on over there and check that out. And last but not least is the podcast, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, anywhere podcasts are found.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Head on over there. And if you haven't been listening to the shows on audio, it's a fun listen. And I even had some people who were listening to the Josh Robert Thompson episode from Friday. And they were like, man, that guy's so good. I legit thought there were some of those guests in studio with you, whether it was Jeff Goldblum or Morgan Freeman himself. So that's a great episode, by the way, if you haven't had a chance to check that out, it's from Friday.
Starting point is 00:04:28 So, all right, let's get into it, everybody. It's the big thing. I'm ready to go. It's going to be a fun show. We got a lot to talk about. Let's get into it. Do it. What's going on, everybody?
Starting point is 00:04:45 Welcome back to The Big Thing. It's Monday. December 12th. Wow. This year just flew by, man. Flew by. We are approaching 2023 rapidly. In 2023, I've been talking about it.
Starting point is 00:05:05 One of our patrons this morning, Darien, nice kid from New York. It's been a long time viewer, but I just got to know him a lot this year. We were talking about the current releases coming out in 2023. It's also talking about that with Ben Rayner. Another shout out to a Patreon on the show. And we were just going over the schedule. And I've been talking about on this show for a little bit about how that schedule is just out of control.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Out of control. So much stuff happening on 2023, and I can't wait. And by the way, before we get into it today, I also wanted to thank our sponsor here, Carbon Health, for sponsoring the Monday show. Love Carbon Health. If you don't know about Carbon Health, well, you should know about Carbon Health.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Carbon Health is great. I just recommended him again to Coy the other day. He couldn't get in to see. He was feeling ill. He was, dude, you got to go to Carbon Health. He's like, I completely forgot. I got to go to Carbon Health. There are 110 locations nationwide, the 80 locations in California, the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and North San Diego.
Starting point is 00:06:07 They're primary care in California, but there's urgent care needs at all locations, and they have advanced care for the most urgent care facilities, the ability to handle x-rays on locations, so you don't have to get them somewhere else to get a review and an x-ray. Tests, they do it all. There, it's, again, 125 locations nationwide. What's so great about them is they believe that great health care should always be. convenient and accessible no matter who you are or where you are right now. So check out some more information. We love working with Carbon Health. We've been working with them for a little bit.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Go to CarbonHealth.com and check them out. And the link is in the description. Thank you to Carbon Health. Okay. So, yeah, man, this week has been a lot. It's been a lot going on in general in the news and leading up to it. A lot of times sometimes I pre-tape on like Friday for the Monday show. And I was going to do a show last night, but I was exactly.
Starting point is 00:06:59 exhausted from the weekend. It was a long weekend, but it was, I sat down. I'm like, now I'm going to, I'll just get to the, I'll find this any news. And then obviously the Golden Globe nominations dropped. We'll talk about that in just a second. But I finished, I finished severance. Now, if you guys are brand new to the show and you don't know my journey through this show, let me tell you. So severance, I was told by many people how great this show was. From Roxy Stryer, Mark Ellis, and the list goes on and on about how great severance was with Adam Scott. And I was like, okay, I'll check it out. So I tried to watch it with my wife a while back. And she bailed on it pretty quick. So I was like, all right, that doesn't really mean anything. She bails on everything. I mean, she bailed literally in the first like 15 minutes of, not even,
Starting point is 00:07:49 maybe 10 minutes of the show with him walking down a hallway and she's like, I'm out. So I was like, I'll try it because, like I said, there's a lot of shows that I like that she does not like. So then Roxy kept telling me about it, or even before she was telling me about it, I started watching it again, and I said, okay, there's just a lot of walking. I think I'm done. And then I started watching it. And then I'm 15 minutes in, and I tweet it out as much. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:14 I don't think this shows for me. I'm not like what I'm seeing here in everybody, from PLD to all you guys out there, stick with it. It gets better. Stick with it. You'll love it by the time it's over. And I said, do these people know me? And the answer is yes, you do, because I loved it.
Starting point is 00:08:30 It was great. It was a great, great show. Really good. Now, Adam Scott's great in the show. He's the one that you really follow a lot as the character of Mark and trying to watch his adventure. But it's Britt Lower, who I knew nothing about who plays Hellie. She's spectacular.
Starting point is 00:08:45 There's a lot of spectacular acting. There's Zach Cherry, who plays Dylan, John Totoro, who plays Irving. There's so many Michael Chernis, who I knew from Orange's New Black. He plays Rickin. Christopher Walkin, obviously. Patricia Sharie. So many people. When did Grendel and Christy?
Starting point is 00:09:04 Is it Gwendolyn Christie's in this? What the hell is she in it? Intent. I'm confused. Tell me who Gwendolyn Christie played. What the hell did Gwendolyn Christie play? I'm confused. Anyway, you guys will tell me who she played
Starting point is 00:09:20 and I'll be like, whoa. Anyway, it was a great show. And it started out into one particular direction. I thought it was going to go, and it completely changed, and it was riveting from start to finish. I thought Ben Stiller did an amazing job. I'm not a massive Ben Stiller fan, but I think that as a director, he crushed this. He was great.
Starting point is 00:09:38 I know he didn't direct all of them. He just directed a few and producer and stuff, but this is everybody who talked about how great this show, they were correct. It is, the music is really good. The tone is great. The story is, keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, and by the time you get to the end, it's a great season finale. I mean, I don't know if I'm there with Roxy about greatest season finale ever,
Starting point is 00:09:59 or close to it, but it was a great season finale. I wouldn't tell her that she's nuts for saying that, but it's a great season finale. Definitely when we wanted me wanting more, and I thought set it up really well throughout the series. So brilliant show, absolutely. I give it a, it's going to be on the top of my list for, I'm thinking I'm going to do a list of like my favorite shows thus far,
Starting point is 00:10:21 and I think Severance deserves to be up there. But I wanted to talk about that because I haven't watched the Golden Globes nominations yet. I just heard a couple spatterings here and there of somebody who's, some people who have been nominated. So I'm going to read my, I'm going to read the mountain, just kind of give you my reactions as we read them out here. But that's just severance.
Starting point is 00:10:40 I love that. I'm curious if you guys saw it. If you like it, what do you think about it? Please tell me. Got to know, want to know. But, oops, not yet. Let's get into Golden Globes. Because Golden Globes is a massive, well, you know what?
Starting point is 00:10:54 It's lost. It's luster, though, hasn't it? Start with that. Golden Globes, people weren't even going to show up to the ceremony anymore, and maybe they're going to get their act together, and maybe they'll start being a little bit more legit than just inviting the cool kids to the party and hoping people show up.
Starting point is 00:11:11 Maybe they try to change their tune a little bit. But for always, it's been, okay, whoever got nominated for Golden Globes pretty much has a good shot being nominated at the Oscars. So let's see what we got here today with the Golden Globes. and then you guys probably know way more than I do already about who was nominated, but I'll give you my thoughts on and I'll tell you what I've seen,
Starting point is 00:11:33 what I haven't seen, what I want to see, what I probably won't see. How about that? Motion picture drama. Avatar the Way of Water. Wow. Have seen it. Very excited that it was nominated because I loved it.
Starting point is 00:11:45 It is amazing. Elvis, I have seen. Really enjoyed it. Good nomination. The Fablemans, I'm halfway through it, really enjoy it. Tar, don't know if I'm going to be checking that one out.
Starting point is 00:11:58 I want to see it for the performance, I guess. They hear good things. And then Top Gun Maverick. Wow. That's, I can't imagine that all of these. I mean, that's also just drama, motion picture drama. So how many of those are going to get nominated for Best Picture for Oscar? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:12:16 Motion picture, musical, or comedy? Babylon. They still haven't seen that one. The Banshees of Inishrant is the one that everyone's talking about. I got to see that one. I have to see that one. Everything, everywhere all at once is a great movie. So that'll probably win musical or comedy.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Glass Honey and I have also seen Knives Out. Mystery was really good. And then Triangle Sadness, I don't know. Director, motion picture, James Cameron, Avatar, the Way of Water. I'll tell you, directing-wise, for being able to put on this type of show, he should be nominated for what is accomplished in this film. I'll tell you that. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Shinnert and everything everywhere all at once.
Starting point is 00:12:59 Could also see them winning and would have no issue with that whatsoever. Baz Luhrman for Elvis really enjoyed that one. I don't know if it's better than the other two choices, but good, I think, well-deserved for the nod. Martin McDonough, the banshees of Inisharan, I still haven't seen it. So Stephen Spielberg, the Fableman's, that's pretty much given as well, too, that he would be nominated. Screenplay motion picture. Todd Field for Tar. Okay, maybe I should see this movie, huh?
Starting point is 00:13:24 Tony Kushner and Spielberg, the Fableman's, Daniel Kwan, Daniel Schiner, everything everywhere all at once, Martin McDonough, the Banshees of Inishrin, and Sarah Polly, woman talking. I have not seen that one as well. Actor in a motion picture drama. Austin Butler, Elvis, that was one that I said, definitely going to be getting nods all over the place once award seasons,
Starting point is 00:13:44 and there it is. Brendan Frazier seems to be the frontrunner and everything and the whale. That one I got to see soon. Hugh Jackman, the son. I don't know what that is. Do you guys know what that is? Bill Nye, for living, and Jeremy Pope, the inspection. Those ones I don't know, but maybe what I like to do is I like to see as the nominations come out,
Starting point is 00:14:02 which ones I should dive into, so I can be part of the conversation, and I think that it's if it's well determined as well, too. Actress, in my opinion, actress in a motion picture drama, Cape Lanchette, as I heard, for TAR, Olivia Coleman, Empire Light. I feel like Olivia Coleman is nominated, even if she, like, walks out of her house and someone films her going to the grocery store, she'll get nominated for an award because she's that good. Viola Davis, the Woman King, is another performance I've been hearing about.
Starting point is 00:14:26 I just got that Blu-ray sent to me. I really need to watch that. I'm so bummed, I missed that screen. Anna DeArm is blonde. That's interesting because I hear that she does a good performance, but it's just so distracting because she goes in and out of the accent. I don't know. Michelle Williams of Fableman's.
Starting point is 00:14:41 What I've seen so far, Michelle Williams and the Fablellman's is pretty damn good. But as lead actress, she would get supporting. Cape Blanchet, I would assume he's going to win that, even though I haven't seen the movie. Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical, or Comedy, Diego Calva, Calva, Babylon. See that one? Daniel Craig, Glass Onion, Lives at Mystery. He was great. Adam Driver for White Noise, Colin Farrell, the Banshees of Inichron.
Starting point is 00:15:02 Always Happy when Colin Farrow gets a nomination. He's one of my favorites, and Ray Feens, the menu. It's another one. How did you guys see the menu? Any good? I want to see that one. Actress in a motion picture, musical or comedy. Margot Robbie, Babylon.
Starting point is 00:15:17 on Anna Taylor Joy, the menu. Emma Thompson, good luck to you, LeGrand, Leslie Manville, Mrs. Harris goes to Paris, and Michelle Yo, everything everywhere all at once. I think you could pretty much give that one to her. That's a lock, I would guess. Actor in a supporting role in any motion picture. Is that a new category?
Starting point is 00:15:34 Brendan Gleason, the banshees of anitioner, Kehoe Kuan, everything, everywhere all at once. He might win. Barry Kehogan, I always mess up his name. You guys will tell me, and I know you've told me a million times. The Banshees of Inishrin, Brad Pitt, Babylon, and Eddie Redmayne, the good nurse. Actress in a supporting role in any motion picture. Angela Bassett, Black Panther, Wakana forever.
Starting point is 00:15:55 Okay. I wish I would have taken the name down when I saw the movie. I said you could see Angela Bassett start getting some buzz for Best Supporting Actress for that movie. And some guy wrote, Best Supporting Actress, Get Out of Here, Never Happened in a Marvel movie. You kidding me? And I was like, I'm telling you, man, she's that good. Is he never going to happen? Now, granted, it's the Golden Globes, but it means that the performance is being talked about.
Starting point is 00:16:22 So I'm so happy to see that. She deserved it. She was fantastic in that film. Carrie Condon, the Banshees of Inishrian. I guess I have to see. That's got to be my next one. Jamie Lee Curtis, everything ever all at once. She was great.
Starting point is 00:16:35 Dolly De Leon, Triangle of Sadness. Carrie Mulligan. And she said, I don't see that one either. Motion picture, non-English language. I think Triple R is going to wind up winning, right? Even though everybody's talking about that one. all quiet in the western front of her to get some buzz. Argentina, 1985, close, and decision to leave.
Starting point is 00:16:53 Original score. Alexander de Splott, who's always in the conversation for the Toros Pinocchio, Hildur Gunneter for Women Talking, Justin Hurwitz. For Babylon, John Williams, the Fablman's, that might be, he might win because it's how many more is he going to be doing? And I think he gets one more. I think, well, and we'll see for Oscars also, but I think John Williams is a good shot.
Starting point is 00:17:19 And Carter Burwell, the Banshees of Inisharin. Original song, Carolina, Taylor Swift from where the crawdad sing. Chow Papa, Deltoro, and Ruben Katz for Pinocchio. Hold My Hand, Lady Gaga and Blood Pop for Top Gun Maverick. It's a great song. Lift Me Up. Thames Ludwig Garnson, Rihanna, and Ryan Cougler for Black Panther, Wakanda Forever. Natu Natu, Kala Barriva,
Starting point is 00:17:44 for MM Caravani for Triple R and motion picture animated. I think this is actually a lock right here. Even though I have not seen Puss in the Boot yet, I think this is a lock. Deltoro's Pinocchio, Marcel the Shell with shoes on, even though people love that movie, I don't know. Puss and Boots, Last Wish, turning red, and Inuo. I think this is a lock for Pinocchio. I think it's a lock.
Starting point is 00:18:09 Television series drama. It's so funny when it comes to these, when it comes to these TV shows, like I was always more locked in to movies when the nominations came out, whatever it was. Like, okay, who's the performance I've seen? Now I find myself getting as excited for TV. All right, here we go.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Roxy's probably so excited, I said that. Television series drama, better call Saul. That's one I know everybody raves about that one. There's a lot of these that I haven't seen. The Crown, I watched the first two seasons, but interesting that this one got nominated. It was the most controversial, I thought. House of the Dragon.
Starting point is 00:18:43 That's my vote so far. Ozark loved it. And then Severance. Severance are House of the Dragon right now. Shoot. I would probably vote for House of the Dragon, but I would not be upset in the slightest if Severance won.
Starting point is 00:19:03 And I really like Ozark. But not in all those shows. And again, from everything I hear about better. I haven't heard of single. negative thing, A, about Better Call Saul in general, and B, in the way that it ended, it seemed to be a very satisfying ending. So eventually I will be getting to that. Television series, musical or comedy, this is when Roxy talks about all the time, and that's Abbott Elementary, and I saw more and more people talking about how they watch it and think it's hilarious. The bear. That was one I was
Starting point is 00:19:33 going to start last night, and I did a poll. I said, what should I start now that I finish Severance? And everybody voted for the bear, but of course, I turned on Tulsicking, and I love it. I love it. So I'm going to probably finish Tulsa, the episode of Tulsa King and then get into the bear. Hacks. Try it hacks. Couldn't get into it. Only murders into the building. Same thing. And Wednesday I want to check out. But that's a great list thus far. Television series are motion picture made for television. Blackbird, Monster, the Jeffrey Dahmer story. You would assume that's going to win. Pam and Tommy, the dropout and the White Lotus, Sicily. Performance by an actor in a television series drama. Jeff Bridges the old man, so good. You guys, I don't know if you remember, but I was raving about that. Really bummed so far that the offer is not getting any love. Really bummed about that. And McCugie yesterday tweets out, oh man, I wish somebody would have told me about the offer when it came out.
Starting point is 00:20:22 I was like, oh, clearly you mooted me somehow. And he checked. He's like, oh, my God, I didn't know how he did that. Probably didn't know how he did that. Probably didn't want any of his Smodown stuff. I'm not stupid. Kevin Costner, Yellowstone. I heard that's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Diego Luna. Andor, heard it, rumor? Great. Great. Great. Great. It's the first one. Well deserved. Well deserved. So good. And that I'm so glad that there's more people kind of turning around and looking at that type of show. That should say so much to them. I hope it does. I really hope it does. Not only, I mean, they always get really great actors and actresses inside of this, what they're casting. But just the way that it was approached. Oh, so happy for that nomination. Bob Odenkirk better, call Salt. And I don't think Diego Luna is going to win? No, I don't.
Starting point is 00:21:12 I don't know who's going to win that. Like I said, people love Kostner. I wonder who Roxy thinks. So curious. So curious. I've got to talk to her about this on the Thursday show. Performance by an actress in a television series drama. Emma Darcy, House of the Dragon.
Starting point is 00:21:29 I could vote for Emma Darcy right now. Laura Linney Ozark. I could vote for Laura Linney right now. Emelda Staunton, the Crown. Hillary Swank, Alaska Daily. I've never seen that. And Zendaya. Euphoria. People love that show. I can't get into it. I haven't tried it. I shouldn't say
Starting point is 00:21:47 can't get into it. I'm scared of it being the father of an 11-year-old. I'm scared of that show knowing, yeah, I don't want, I don't want any more things that I've heard. Performance by an actor in a television series, musical or comedy, Donald Glover, Atlanta, Bill Hader, Barry, Steve Martin only murders in the building. Martin Short only murders in the building. Oh, that sucks. Poor guys. and Jeremy Allen White, the bear. Performances by an actress in a supporting role in a musical comedy or a drama television series, Elizabeth DeBecky, The Crown, Hannah Indaminder, Hacks,
Starting point is 00:22:21 Julia Garner, Ozark, Janelle James, Abbott Elementary, and Cheryl Lee Ralph Abbott Elementary. That's great. Performance by an actor in a limited series, anthology series, or motion picture made for television. Taryn Agargeton, Blackbird, Colin Firth, the staircase, Andrew Garfield, under the banner of heaven. Roxy talks about that all of the time.
Starting point is 00:22:38 Evan Peters, Monster, the Jeffrey, Dahmer Story and Sebastian Stan, Pam and Tommy. Performance by an actress in the limited series, anthology series are a motion picture made for television. Jessica Chastain, George and Tammy, Julia Garner, inventing Anna, Lily James, Pam and Tommy, Julia Roberts, Gasslett. That's my vote. And Amanda Seafreed, the dropout.
Starting point is 00:22:58 And then there's two more. Performance by an actor in a supporting role in a limited series, anthology series or motion picture made for television. F. Murray Abraham, that's our guy, the White Lotus. Donald Gleason, the Patient, Paul Walter Houser, Blackbird. Nice, Paul. Richard Jenkins Monster, the Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Seth Rogan, Pam, and Tommy, performance by an actress in a supporting role in a limited series,
Starting point is 00:23:18 anthology series, or motion picture made for television, Jennifer Coolidge, The White Lotus, Claire Danes, Fleischman is in trouble, Daisy Edgar Jones under the banner of heaven, Nisi Nash Betts Monster, the Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and Aubrey Plaza, the White Lotus. So a lot of interesting picks there, a lot of interesting things that stand out. The Banshees is the one that really, I think, is the one that I go, I need to see that. It's one that I've wanted to see. And I think even more so now, I mean, nothing, I've heard nothing but great things about the movie, about the performances, about the
Starting point is 00:23:50 directing, about everything about it. So that one I'm very excited about the ones that stand out for short on, from my personal bias, obviously are both Angela Bassett and, and Diego Luna because I thought they were, I thought, I thought I, I liked Black Panther, Wakana forever. I liked it. I thought it's a step up from a lot of the other phase four stuff that we got. And for what Ryan Coogler was able to accomplish in the years after Chadd Rock Bozeman passed, I thought it was absolutely fantastic and shows what an absolute master of director he is and writer and leader that he is and what he was able to put together. There are just some things, as I said, in my reviews that I just didn't love. But overall, what really stood out were a lot of the performances and the major performance to me was Angela Bassett.
Starting point is 00:24:39 Angela Basta's powerful, powerful performance. And I'm so glad that she was acknowledged in this award ceremony and not just overlooked because it's a comic book movie. And I hope that that carries over into the Academy Awards. I don't know if it will, but I hope that it does. Same goes for Diego Luna, who has got to be one of the first Star Wars performances. And I don't know how long, if any, that has been nominated.
Starting point is 00:25:05 I'm very curious to find that out. who was nominated, whether it's Golden Globes, Academy Awards, Emmys, or anything, I don't know if that's ever, I don't remember it. I know Star Wars, whether it's visual effects and those, but performance-wise, well, who was, if any, that's great. So that Jeffrey Dahmer, I knew, would be, from what I heard,
Starting point is 00:25:26 that one's harder for me to get into because of, I'm sure it's fantastic. I just don't know if I want to mentally go to that place, and that's what a lot of people, and if you're going to ask the question, well, isn't it your job to watch everything? it isn't it isn't it used to be and that was one of the things I really didn't like about the job I only want to watch things I want to watch and and then you know there's certain things that you know I'm covering please come watch because please come talk with me like here's a perfect example
Starting point is 00:25:51 willow so willow was a show that I was excited for because I liked the first movie and granted it's it's dated um so I watched the first episode I watched the first 15 minutes and I thought it was terrible. I went and watched the rest of it with my daughter. And I said that it's still the modern language and a lot of the stuff that they did. It was just some of the four storylines was just not great, but it got better. Someone who wrote yesterday on a comment, oh, damn it, you know, I trust your opinion and I turned it off for 15 minutes. I got to watch it. I wrote back, I go, look, you probably could still hate it. I'm just telling you that the last part of it, The last 40 minutes were a lot better than the first 15.
Starting point is 00:26:34 And I thought the second episode was much better. But that all being said, I haven't watched the third episode, and I'm probably not going to review it. Will I watch it with my daughter if she wants to watch it? We're watching the Marvel. We're doing a rewatch the Marvel together, too. So she's, I think, watched the third one on her own. So I don't know if I'm going to get to it.
Starting point is 00:26:51 I have no idea. It's not a show, like I said, second episode is like, okay, much better than what I initially thought it was going to be, but it's not one of those shows that I want to go back. and check out. So, and that's the difference between working at a place where, well, you committed to, you got to, you got to review it every week. I don't want to do that.
Starting point is 00:27:11 So I don't watch and review everything. There are other channels that do. For me, I just want to watch the stuff that I, that I dig. And like, for, for Severance, by the way, severance is one that I probably wish I would have started earlier, for sure. I'll be watching season two as soon as it drops. So, anyway, what do you guys think? the nominations. You think this is going to be reflective at all to the Academy Awards? I'd love to
Starting point is 00:27:36 hear your thoughts. Make sure you do that. That's another thing I make sure that I do, that I'm commenting to, I'm commenting back. It's been a lot tougher these days. I go and I take my laptop and I put it in the kitchen and I just go through and I try to respond to as many comments as possible, but it's a good thing. It's a good problem to have that it's, it's been tough to coming back to everybody, but I'm trying. I'm trying. Okay, before we move on, I do want to tell you, I'm super excited to have them back, guys. They're back, though. It's Athletic Greens.
Starting point is 00:28:04 Athletic Greens is the best. We love Athletic Greens. We are so excited to have them back as a sponsor of the show. And I've been, even when they weren't around, the last couple of, like last month or so, two months. It hasn't changed my relationship with them. I've been using them every day. I'm not a big, like, vitamins person.
Starting point is 00:28:25 So I started taking Athletic Greens because it kind of just combines it all into one and because Brett told me how good it was. And I told you that guys, I told you that months ago, and I've just stuck with it because it just gives me a nice boost of energy. And it's good gut health, more energy, as I said, optimize immune system. And I've been doing it for months now. And I always feel, I feel so much better. Starting point is 00:29:46 and pick up the ultimate daily nutritional insurance. So it's Christmas time, right? It's coming up to the holidays and just the holiday season in general. You want to get gifts. Hanukkah's coming up. Quanz is coming up. You want to get some gifts? You support the show, and you support yourself.
Starting point is 00:30:05 You go get yourself. It's a great Christmas gift. I've so many people that have been trying Athletic Greens now, so they heard about it from our show. Use that link, man. Check it on. Let me know, by the way, when you do, because not only you're supporting yourself,
Starting point is 00:30:18 you're supporting this show, very much so when you get one of the sponsors. So thank you so much to you, and thank you to Athletic Greens. Let's move on to some other topics. as we saw with that one. Let's get into this one. I got to talk about this avatar story. I've got to talk about this avatar story.
Starting point is 00:30:38 We'll get into the Superman one in a second, I promise. But man, Avatar 5, apparently Avatar 5, if they make it, will be going to Earth. Now, if you would have told, and I think I even said this, why they plan on an Avatar 5? Let them do two and see if anybody wants to go back. Everybody's going to want to go back. I want to go back.
Starting point is 00:31:03 That's just a different movie experience. It really is. And to see at first, and again, I hear they're going to Earth. I'm like, I don't know, you want to take them out of Pandora. But then I start thinking about what that world and that 3D and that technology will look like on Earth. So this is an article, again, from Dark Horizons. Avatar the Way of Water producer John Landau has confirmed that if James Cameron is able to to get around to making his proposed fifth and final
Starting point is 00:31:30 avatar film, a bunch of it is not going to happen on Pandora. The first avatar film included over four and a half minutes of Earth scenes that were originally supposed to be included in the film's opening sequence. Interesting. Cameron opted to cut them, leaving only brief flashbacks of Jake meeting the two RDA agents. Later,
Starting point is 00:31:46 the extended collector's edition, Blu-ray, and DVD, restored the brief cut scenes even so. Earth has barely been glimpsed in this screen universe. Speaking with I.O.9 as a recent press day for the film, Landau confirmed the final film will shift action to Earth. I wasn't going to talk about it, but now that I've subsequently heard that Jim has talked about it a little bit, in a movie, in movie five, there is a
Starting point is 00:32:10 section of the story where we're going to go to Earth, and we get to go to open people's eyes, open Natiri's eyes to what exists on Earth. Landos says, part of the reason is to show Natiri that like the Navi, not all the people on the planet want to pillage their homeworld. Earth is not just represented by the RTA. Just like you're defined by the choices you make in life, not all humans are bad, not all Navi are good, and that's the case here on Earth, and we want to expose Natiri to that.
Starting point is 00:32:38 I love that. Of course, this requires that the other films perform very well in order to continue. According to the land out, if they have to end the films earlier, then the team have prepared for that. I think right now we want each movie to do exactly what the first movie did. We want audiences to go, wow, where else could they go?
Starting point is 00:32:53 They just showed us everything on Pandora, Or then you go, holy cow, they're going to the oceans. Wow, the oceans are amazing. Okay, that's over. Now where can we go? Same thing for an emotional story. We end the first movie with Jake and his transformation, but we suffered the loss of Sigourney Weaver's character, Grace,
Starting point is 00:33:06 and we've suffered other things. We want people to come out of this movie with an emotional resolution that both calls for a yearning to go back to those characters and to that world. Lando also shot down the report. A while back of the leaked titles for the other sequels, the one which accurately indicated Avatar the Way of Water was the second film's title.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Landau says we have decided on titles, but I would not go by those other three titles that were out there. You know, if you roll the dice one and six times, you'll pick the right number. Avatar, the Way of Water, opens in cinemas on December 16th. I like the idea that they would be going to Earth, and I like the reasoning behind it, because in the first film, more so than the second,
Starting point is 00:33:50 that it was, and I like the first move, And there are a lot of people that don't, but it's hard for me to argue that the first one is an overly preachy, right? I can't give a full review yet on the movie. My review will come out tomorrow for Avatar, The Way of Water. But what I will say, this is significantly less preachy and the humans, like, you know, you get through it. Like, no one's good. None of the humans are good at all, minus like Sully and a few of these other, you know, Sigourney Weaver and a few other people. I love this idea.
Starting point is 00:34:21 They're going to go back and they're going to see some, they're going to, it's just, that's just a little section of the people that wanted to do that, and they're the ones probably with the money and everything else that could get off the planet and do this, but to see, to have that happen, but you're looking at in number five, you still got three and four to go. But I'm all for it, man. I'm all four, five avatars, especially after this one. I was curious, I was like, they don't hit the second one. They got to stop talking about avatar three, four, and five, but I, I want to see three, four,
Starting point is 00:34:49 and five. I just mentioned it, like, I love this technology. Love it. And I, and I, it's just, it's just a very different theater experience. It's, I can't imagine not seeing this movie in the theater. I just don't think it, and that's probably why if people saw Avatar, not in the theater, the first movie, probably didn't hit the same. Now, the argument can be made.
Starting point is 00:35:13 Well, doesn't that mean it's not a great movie because you have to see it in the theater? Not necessarily. I think that it's built for the theater. It's built for you to feel like you're there. and I think that the emotions hit you in a different way when you feel like you're actually there. Because I felt like I was there many times, many times. It's just everything so great about it.
Starting point is 00:35:33 But I'm glad it was nominated, nominated for Best Pitcher inside of Golden Globes. Is that going to happen for the Academy Awards? I don't know. Doubtful. But I don't know. Critics seem to really like it, though. Critics seem to really like it. even people who really disliked the first one,
Starting point is 00:35:55 really seem to like it. I'm so curious to see even like, it's, do you think, is it, and can you be in the comment section, can you be honest with me? Like, and even, even sign up on an anonymous account if you have to. Be honest with me.
Starting point is 00:36:08 If you hate something or wanted to hate something, or if you, like, you know, or just like, whether, whatever you're, you're going after it and you're, you think you've been just preaching to the hells how much it stinks, it's going to stink.
Starting point is 00:36:21 And if you want, watched that movie or show, and it turned out that it was good. Would you say it? Would you say I was wrong, and I liked it? And I'm glad to be... I'm not saying that you wouldn't. I'm just curious how many people are out there that would actually do that. I think that there are definitely more so on people who are not in the public forum,
Starting point is 00:36:44 because I always wonder if the people who are making videos and stuff, how much they want to hate it, have to hate it. If they liked it, could they say? it and maybe there are channels very well that do that. I'm just saying from what I particularly have seen out there. Anyway, I'm pretty excited for it to see where the franchise goes. All right, moving on. Let's get to the next story, and it's the story that we should really talk about here.
Starting point is 00:37:19 There he is. What? Go back here. All right. So there was a lot of news, man. There was a lot of news about James Gunn over the weekend. And even before James Gunn in general, man, it was like this whole thing happened with Patty Jenkins about turning in the actual script, right? And then they basically canceled. they canceled the movie.
Starting point is 00:37:52 They canceled it in general. So what does that mean? What does that mean in general is whatever I'm starting asking? Are they going to do, are they going to do Superman? Is Henry Cavill done? Is Ben Affleck gone? What is happening? So the answer was,
Starting point is 00:38:08 was James Gunn basically going, look, some of it is true, some of it is not true, but hold out and trust us. So then over the, weekend, there was more conversation, and then James Gunn basically came out and said this. Look, here's the thing. Superman is a, he's a priority. He absolutely is a priority.
Starting point is 00:38:33 We are going to lead with him. There's, there's no doubt about it. So the question, again, he says he's a huge priority, but the question is, he didn't say Henry Cavill is a priority. He said that this is from a variety. rumor surge over what route DC Universe will take under the watch of its new leader James Gunn and Peter Saffron excuse me, Gunn took to
Starting point is 00:38:58 social media to confirm that Superman is one of his biggest priorities. Hey James, please tell us if we're going to see a Superman. If a fan asked Gunn, he said, of course we are. Superman's a huge priority, if not the biggest priority. Now, when asked by another fan to respond to the claim that James Gunn
Starting point is 00:39:16 does not like Henry Cavill, Gunn answered sure, false. Gunn's response came after a chaotic few days for the DC Universe news broke that Patty Jenkins has walked away from Wonder Woman 3. After refusing to make studio requested changes for her script treatment, speculation also circulated that her potential sequel, that potential sequels to Man of Steel, Black Adam were being killed. Henry Cavill reappeared as Superman in Black Adam in the post-credit scenes, and the actor also formally announced on social media his Superman return. Variety then reported that writers were being courted for a new man a steel movie to be produced by Charles Rovin. The character means so much to me. It's been five years.
Starting point is 00:39:55 I never gave up hope. Cavill said in an interview about returning as Superman. It's amazing to be here now talking about it again. There is such a bright future for the character. I'm excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman. Now, whether the future of Superman in the DC universe includes Henry Cavill, that remains to be seen. But the character itself is a huge priority for Gunn. filmmaker and producer JJ Abrams has also been developing a Superman movie with Tenastra Coates for some quite time,
Starting point is 00:40:23 but the status of that project also remains unclear at this point. Peter and I chose to helm DC Studios, nowhere when we were coming into a fractious environment, both in the stories being told and in the audience itself, and where it would be an unavoidable transitional period as we moved into telling a cohesive story across film, TV, animation, and gaming. Gun tweeted December 8th amid reports of his DC universe reboot plans. we know we're not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the story and the service of the DC characters.
Starting point is 00:40:53 We know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives gone at it. As for more answers about the future of the DCU, I will sadly have to ask you to wait. We are giving these characters and the stories, the time and attention they deserve, and we ourselves still have a lot of more questions to answer. So, all right, there's a lot here. There's a lot.
Starting point is 00:41:12 So this is, I mean, there's a lot of stuff that I think a lot of you guys when having these conversations about all of this, probably have had the same conversations. And this is something that we had talked about. I'm sure all of you have talked about part one, separating any actor or anybody from the role itself. Superman needs to be a priority for D.C. It was a massive blunder for a very long time
Starting point is 00:41:37 where they were putting him on the shelf. The Rock said it himself. And he was right. Superman has been, I think, falsely categorized into, well, he's this Boy Scout character that nobody really wants to see or relate to anymore. It was absolutely incorrect, and I think that if...
Starting point is 00:41:54 I, again, really like Manistile, and I thought that going in that direction for the time was the right way to go. I do think going back to the roots of what Superman has always been about in a time like now is perfect, and it also helps set up a new DC. Now, as we also mentioned now, if you do take the actor...
Starting point is 00:42:12 in Henry Cavill. So this is the confusing part of it and where they must be just pulling out their hair, both Gun and Safran. It's like, you know you, like, you're going to get a lot of goodwill on your side if you put Cavill in the movie. People went nuts,
Starting point is 00:42:30 and I can't even imagine how many people just bought tickets for Black Adam just to see him in that scene, whether or not it was leaked or not. People wanted to see it. So the easy answer is, yeah, put cavil in it. But the hard problem is, well, where does that connect into the stuff we're trying to get away from? Because you're going to have the inevitable questions of, well, is Amy Adams Lois Lane? Is Jimmy Olson dead?
Starting point is 00:42:57 Is Lawrence Fishburn Perry White? Has he done this before? Is Ben Affleck? Is that his Batman? Has he fought Batman? It's like, is it connected to that Snyderverse or not? And the only other kind of saving grace they could have in order to kind of not retcon it, but reset it is through the flash. They'd have to do something into this movie, into the flash, to really set everything up to start going. So it's not easy. And I don't envy their position on it.
Starting point is 00:43:32 It's a tough, tough place that they're in right now. because it has nothing to do with, I don't think, anyway, of whether or not James Gunn likes, dislikes anybody. It's a matter of does it fit in to the narrative that they're talking about? And clearly, Patty Jenkins' version did not. And Patty Jenkins will talk about in a second also, another report as far as the Rogue One Squadron thing that's coming out that was involving her as well.
Starting point is 00:43:59 But, and this is something that I brought up to Winston, I think, on capes and cows. And I said, you know, another real possibility is that they offered Patty Jenkins. They said, hey, this particular script isn't working because we have this new idea we want to go. So we'd like you to retool this and do this in this piece. This is direction we want to go. And she was like, no, I don't want to do that. I'm out. And from rumors, from this report, it seems like that's what happened.
Starting point is 00:44:27 Because the only reason that was even so much more realistic is that's essentially what happened on Thor, Dark World. Now, another report is apparently that's what happened on Rogue Squadron as well with Patty Jenkins. So again, we'll get into that in a moment. But when you stick with the DC universe and leading with Superman, I just think that you lead with one of your big rock stars and it gives you enough time. I think I still say Cavill. That's my hope is that there, no pun intended, is it's Cavill. and that you redesign it and you explain it through Flashpoint or whatever,
Starting point is 00:45:04 or you explain it somehow that it's a different Kallel that comes in, that it's going to be the particular lead of this one. And whatever happens through the Flash movie, that's the DC that we're going to be following. There's no Ezra Miller, there's no Ben Affleck, I know, no Ben Affleck. I think because Mamoa wants to play Lobo, I know with Aquaman probably set to, the second one, probably set to make so much money,
Starting point is 00:45:35 and it probably will. It's going to make a lot of money. Shazam as well, you make it part of the old school. I think that because of what has happened so far with Cavill, I think Cavill is the one fix that you can kind of make them because you're changing, because the difference is this. You're going to change who he was as far as he's not going to be in this kind of dark Superman anymore.
Starting point is 00:45:58 It's going to be this more Christopher Reeve, old school Superman type of thing, perhaps. So that gives you excuse to make him from a different earth. And he's going to be the one you're leading with. And that's the earth that you're going to be following in general, that we leave the other ones behind, which would suck for a lot of people. But you still, I think picking up cavil and getting rid everyone else will get people pissed, but less pissed if you get rid of everybody because of the way
Starting point is 00:46:25 that Cavill has been so adamant about wanting to come back and the reaction or response that he has got and the idea that you're going to keep Jason Mamora around is potentially having him as Lobo. I think, again, would have people go, okay, that's fine. We get it. But it ain't easy, man. This is not an easy, easy decision at all. And as I said, I do not envy both of these guys. They have so much, and they're already, it's like, when you're in the position that they're in,
Starting point is 00:46:53 they're going to piss people off and not just the fans. You look like, I don't know what their relationship is now with Patty Jenkins. I have no idea. I think they're going to piss people off no matter what, but it's going to speak volumes once they release whatever they're working on.
Starting point is 00:47:09 That's in their sleep. That's where it's going to start to play. That's when people are going to go, oh, okay, now I get it. Now I get it. I didn't get it before, but I get it now. And I think that that's the main thing. How about you guys? What are you thinking? Do you like what's going on so far? How do you feel? I really, like, this is a thing. If you've never commented before on any video that I've ever done, comment on this one and give me your thoughts in general.
Starting point is 00:47:39 Do you think that Cavill should come back? Do you think if they're going to let somebody go, let them all go? Do you think that they should bring some of them back? How would you handle it? because I'm so curious to what people think. Like if you were in charge, if you were in D.C. right now and you had to make some decisions, what would your decisions be? Comment, let me know. I got to know. I really want to know.
Starting point is 00:47:58 I'm so serious. And then the other thing that you need to do, is if you don't do it, people are going to be upset. You got to shave your balls. Shave your bulls. It's time to do it. And we're so excited once again. Talk about coming back.

So make sure you, you check them out, manscape.com slash big thing. They really are. They, what a brilliant company. Brilliant. Okay, let's go back to some more news as we get past the Superman stuff. There's a lot of stuff here. Well, you know what? Let's get to the, let's do that Patty Jenkins thing then. Where is it?
Starting point is 00:50:58 The Patty Jenkins story. Because Patty Jenkins, as we were just talking about with D.C., there's a new story from Patty Jenkins in regards to that Rogue Squadron movie that she had. And this comes from Shmodeon legend. Jeff Snyder on another Shmodeon legend, John Roka, on the podcast, The Hot Mike. So this is the article for us from comicbook movie.com, but they talk about Jeff and John's show. I told you guys to check that show out. A lot of scoops breaking on that show weekly.
Starting point is 00:51:32 Now following reports of filmmaker, Patty Jenkins, has classed with Warner Brothers over her Wonder Woman 3 plans. There's a new report suggesting she might have had the same exact problems with Lucasfilm's Rogue Squadron project. Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is a filmmaker who has found herself faced with creative differences on more than one occasion. She walked away from Thor the Dark World after budding heads with Marvel Studios and all signs point to Rogue Squadron not becoming a reality at Lucasfilm now either. Even after the big, Christy announcement video, recently, we've been hearing that Jenkins clashed with Warner Brothers over her Wonder Woman three plans
Starting point is 00:52:07 refusing to change her vision for the three-quel after receiving notes from the studio. while we've always assumed the director has had a run of bad luck in Hollywood, a new report suggests she might be the issue with these movies. This comes from Scooper Jeff Snyder on John Roker's The Hot Mike. With him explaining, I've heard some things about Patty Jenkins. I've heard she's a nightmare. I'm sorry, I don't want to be the guy who's calling a woman a name. I get it, but listen, I've said that about countless male directors as well.
Starting point is 00:52:31 I've heard that everything that she turned in with Wonder Woman 3 was a mess. I heard that Star Wars Rogue Squadron was also a mess. The plan had been for Rogue Squadron to be released at the end of next year, though it fell apart for a reason which still aren't entirely clear to us. With Jenkins supposedly getting defensive when Warner Brothers criticized her Wonder Woman three ideas and refused to even talk with James Gunn and Saffron, we can see where Snyder is coming from. Rogue Squadron was a Star Wars movie that had real potential
Starting point is 00:53:00 and appeared to be a passion project for Jenkins. The fact that it's fallen by the wayside is a shame and its likelihood that Wonder Woman 3 might not happen. However, after watching 1984, we can understand, I don't know, that's the period. That's the opinion piece part of it. Anyway, all right, so this report coming from Jeff, like, I don't know what's true, what's false, what's hearsay, what's not. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:53:27 But what I can say is this. You have to look those sometimes, and you have to say, all right, Marvel, DC, and Star Wars, all three of them, she's lost projects with all three. Now, the first one, notorious with Thor, she walked away from it, Natalie Portman almost walked away from it because she left. And she has a massive hit in her hands with Wonder Woman,
Starting point is 00:53:52 and what Warner Brothers did stupidly back then was they only signed her to one movie. So she had all of the cards for that second movie. She had all of the cards because she had to re-sign her for a second movie, and she probably got a lot inside of her deal and could do whatever she wanted to do on 84. Now, again, like I said,
Starting point is 00:54:11 I don't argue with anyone who says that 84 is not good because, frankly, I don't think it was. I enjoyed watching it, but I watched it at home and I watched it on HBO Max and I didn't see it in the theater. I thought it was goofy, but I didn't hate it. It's really silly.
Starting point is 00:54:29 Like, the ending, it's ridiculous. If anyone's like, I hate that movie, I get it. It's the same way I feel about, like, the Fantastic Beast movie. I enjoyed watching them, but I get why people don't love it. Either way, it's not a lot of confidence going into the third one. So when you turn in that third script and they're like, well, listen, we appreciate it,
Starting point is 00:54:44 but we're not going that way. And now that we had this new direction, like leadership has changed, we need you to make sense. If you want to be a part of it, you need you to change. And I don't know what's true or what's not true. I'm just saying if the reports are true and if she didn't even want to meet with Gunn and Saffron to talk about it, then I got to say at that point, it's like, just cut your losses, everybody and just walk away, because, as she did, because clearly she doesn't want to deal with it.
Starting point is 00:55:07 And if she doesn't want to be around it, you don't want a director who is not happy and feels like they're doing just the job. You want them to be excited about it. So it's probably the best for both. Now, as far as Star Wars, if it's the same thing that went down, it's like, Star Wars is a little more confusing to me
Starting point is 00:55:23 because of this. The idea is with D.C., the difference is she had some, it's more of like an ant-man situation for her, which I'm more understanding of, and I'm almost understanding on the Star Wars side, and I'll get to it. I'm more understanding on the D.C. side because it's an Edgar Wright situation where Edgar Wright had this whole idea for a movie before the MCU was even a thing
Starting point is 00:55:51 and developed a lot of Ant Man stuff. So by the time they were like, okay, Edgar, we have a new direction and we want to go. He's like, well, that's not the movie I've been wanting to make. That's not it. And we have a direction when we want to go. He's like, well, I don't want to be part of that direction. And I get it. And I always understood that.
Starting point is 00:56:02 I never thought Edgar Wright was difficult or, And it seems like Patty Jenkins was in that same position. She was working on something through conversations she had with old leadership. New leadership came in and said, we're going in a new direction. We need you to do this. And she's like, I don't want to do that.
Starting point is 00:56:17 I think that's fair. I think that's fair that if she's walking away, that she's walking away. She doesn't want to do it. That's not the vision that she had. And I think it's completely fair that when you're having conversation. It's also part of business. I don't think it's unfair for them to say,
Starting point is 00:56:31 hey, we're not doing that anymore because that's not, it's a new leadership. So it's, I think that if, again, I don't know how upset she was by it. If she was upset, I think she probably could have been a little bit more understanding because it's new leadership
Starting point is 00:56:46 and they don't want to go that way. I think it's like, okay, well, you guys want to go that way. I just don't want to go that way. I'm out. And I get that's easier said than done when there's so much money on the table as well. However, the Star Wars thing is more confusing because it does seem to me,
Starting point is 00:57:00 even though this report says otherwise, Lucasfilm still seems like the problem to me because there's no clear-cut vision. There is a vision in D.C., obviously, and that's why they had this problem. There is no clear-cut vision with Lucasfilm. It was like, oh, there was a popular director who had the hit movie Wonder Woman.
Starting point is 00:57:16 Let's give, what do you want to do? Oh, your dad was a fighter pot. You want to do that sounds fun. Let's do that. What does it connect into? We don't know. Well, what do you want to do? Well, I want to do this.
Starting point is 00:57:24 That sounds cool. And then when that person is like, well, I want to do this. Well, I don't think that it's going to fit into what we're doing. Well, what are you doing? So they don't have to, have a plan at all. So I don't know. And it's hard to say without the context of the full conversations that were had. But I'm not, I don't, I'm not completely, I'm not saying that
Starting point is 00:57:44 maybe it's, it, you have to see like every single time the three major franchises that it's happened, that you, that it's not, it's not unfair to go, maybe there's a problem with Patty Jenkins. There very well might be. But you also got to look at the situations that are provided here. and I do think that there's a good possibility that you walk in and Lucasfilm's like, well, we want this. But you said you wanted that, but now you want this,
Starting point is 00:58:09 but I wanted to do this. And you don't have a plan, so I just want to make my movie, the same way Ryan Johnson did, the same way that JJ did, I want to make my movie. And they're like, no, you got to do it this way now.
Starting point is 00:58:18 Like, what? So that's all hearsay. That no one has said anything to be there. That just seems like that's what has traditionally happened with Lucasfilm. So I'm more understanding on the DC side, the moment, even though I'm also understanding on Patty Jenkins' reason to leave D.C., then I am, I would love to know the context of the conversation within Lucas film first. But anyway,
Starting point is 00:58:41 big story, curious of what you guys think. Do you agree with me? Do you not disagree? Where do you stand on the Patty Jenkins stuff? And then more DC related talent. If you look at, where is it? You look at The Rock and he's got a new, he doesn't have a new movie. Hobbs and Shaw. Now, Hobbs and Shaw was a pretty popular movie spin-off from the Fast franchise. Well, there's a new report now. This is from Dark Horizons that says Hobbs and Shaw, the sequel is looking unlikely. So this, again, is from Darkhorisins.com.
Starting point is 00:59:22 Gars Franklin wrote this. In 2019, the Fast and Furious franchise scored its first spinoff feature with Fast and Furious presents, Hobbs and Shaw. it overcame mixed reviews to earn more than $750 million. That's a big number at the box office. Naturally, there have been mutterings of a sequel, one that would likely reveal the director of the terrorist group Eton, who was only heard but not seen in the film,
Starting point is 00:59:44 and Ryan Reynolds voiced that evil mastermind in the movie, along with his on-screen cameo as Agent Locke. Kelly McCormick was also a producer on that film and is the wife of its director, David Leach. McCormick also just released a holiday-themed action comedy comedy, violent night and was asked by comic book.com about a potential hobbs sequel. She says she'd love to do one, but there's been no progress. There are no conversations at this time. I do feel that there were a lot of seeds planted to try to create a spinoff in a way that included a Kevin Hart and Ryan Reynolds
Starting point is 01:00:14 and a sort of all that stuff. That was intentional, but not necessarily because we had any plans in mind, just because it would be fun to have different players for them to have and play with anybody that we wanted to go in a different way. So, you know, I don't know. Maybe if Dwayne is really busy, He's a really busy guy, and, you know, he would be the one to motivate all that. So, you know, we're ready if he wants to. And until then, he's just dominating, so all power to him. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham starred in the original alongside Idges Elba and the villain Brixton and Vanessa Kirby and Statham's sister.
Starting point is 01:00:44 Johnson is currently in the midst of shooting the action film Red One along Chris Evans and J.K. Simmons. I don't think that really means unlikely at all. I think you got to get the answer from the rock because it clearly seems like the producers want to do it. And they're just waiting on the rock. So I think that it's unlikely when the rock says, I don't want to do it. Or Satan goes, yeah,
Starting point is 01:01:05 I might, wait a minute. So, yeah, I don't know if it's unlikely. And I also think that right now, I think he's probably looking at what's going to happen with Black Adam, where his role,
Starting point is 01:01:19 if any, is going to be in the D.C. universe. So I wouldn't say unlikely. I'd just say on hold right now. Seems like it's on hold. because if the rock wakes up tomorrow and goes, hey, I want to do a Hobbs and Shaw movie,
Starting point is 01:01:33 I'm going to call Statham. There's probably going to be Hobbs and Shaw movie to try to make another, you know, $750 million, which is a massive number, especially after if let's, maybe they're also taking a look and saying, well, if Fast 10 comes out next year, let's take a look and see what happens.
Starting point is 01:01:49 And then maybe we'll try to capitalize on that if it does another billion dollars. And we'll take it from there. But no, I don't think it's unlikely. I think it's to be determined at the moment. I just don't think it's being talked about it right now because I think I think producers 100% right. I think Rock's got his head in a million different projects right now,
Starting point is 01:02:10 making money hand over fist on different things. And it's probably still reeling because even I am on the camp and I know there's three camps for the Black Adam stuff. Camp one. It bombed. It was a disappointment and it bombed and lost the studio $150 billion. That's camp one. Camp two, it broke even, barely, because of shortening up the theatrical run, some more distribution and video on demand and other things.
Starting point is 01:02:39 And then there's Camp 3, which had actually made a profit when you look at the numbers that the Rock submitted. I'm on Camp 2. I think that it probably broke just about even. But either way, even in Camp 3, with a profit of 25, 35, $40 million, whatever they said, that's not the result that they were looking for. So whether they lost money, broke even, or barely made money, Rock's got to, his eagles got to be hurting a little bit. And I get it.
Starting point is 01:03:07 It was a tough push in October for a character that wasn't really that known with a movie that I enjoyed, but understand the criticisms that it's not the best. I get it. I had fun with it. I'm looking forward to watching it again when it comes out. But I get it. And I understand why it didn't make the money that it did. in an October release without a fantastic movie,
Starting point is 01:03:30 it's a tough sell to try to get to a billion dollars in October. Black Panther's barely going to make a billion. And Avatar needs to make. Again, depending on what reports, some people say 1.2 to break even, the reports of 2 billion is ridiculous. It's that that was determined on domestic numbers, not worldwide. And then I think that it's from realistically,
Starting point is 01:03:57 probably between $800,900, which is not a small number. If that movie winds up making anything less than $800 million, that's a disappointment. So it's a tough game to be in right now, man. It's a tough game. But I think, I think Hobbs and Shaw has a shot. But you guys, what do you think? Yes, no, do you care?
Starting point is 01:04:18 Do you not care? Let it go, let it go. Did that one. Anything else that I missed? Oh, we'll end with this. talked about it the other day but Jennifer Lawrence was asked last week
Starting point is 01:04:31 or whatever I think it was by Viola Davis they were doing the one-on-one interviews that they do with each other and um Jennifer Lawrence got into a lot of crap because she talked about she was talking about action stars and female action stars
Starting point is 01:04:49 and I think at the time she said something along the lines that there weren't a lot of before catness wasn't a lot of female driven action stars and she got some heat for it. So again, this is the report from Dark Horizons. Following pushback from fans and her comments that went viral, Jennifer Lawrence has cleared the air about her remarks regarding female action heroes. Lawrence appeared on Variety Actors on Actors, excuse me,
Starting point is 01:05:14 Actors on Actors episode with Viola Davis. On Wednesday, when she spoke about her time working on the Hunger Games franchise, at the time, Lawrence said nobody had ever put a woman in the lead of an action movie because it wouldn't work is what we were told. Though she had a longer and more thought-out answer about double standards over gender in the action genre, those first few words were what everybody was fixated on. Thus, social media erupted into discussions
Starting point is 01:05:39 with plenty of people weighing in how actresses like Sigourney Weaver, Angelina Jolie, Uma Thurman, Pam Greer, Monica Vitti, Michelle Yeo, and so many other led their own action films in the decades prior to the Hunger Games, many of which found major success. Speaking with THR, she explained the confusion over her statement. Certainly not what I meant to say at all. I know that I am not the only woman who has ever led an action film.
Starting point is 01:06:08 What I meant to emphasize was how good that it feels. I meant that with Viola to blow past these old myths that you hear about, about the chatter that you would hear about that kind of thing, but it was my blunder and it came out wrong. I had nerves talking to a living legend. Lawrence has also been promoting her Apple TV drama finish film Causeway, which kickstarts something of a return to Lawrence, wait, kickstart something of a return of Lawrence to the big screen
Starting point is 01:06:34 after a few years of absence. Yeah. This is one where I say, give her a break. Give her a break. It's like, this is the, this is the gotcha. This is the gotcha era. Nobody's allowed to mess up. Nobody's allowed to screw up.
Starting point is 01:06:50 Gotcha. I got you. You're going to pay for it. She messed up. And she said it. She didn't say, if she would have come back and, yeah, I stand by it. I don't like any of those movies. It didn't work out.
Starting point is 01:07:04 None of those other movies were for me. Linda Hamilton and Sigourney Weaver and Charlie Sterron and Angelina Jolie. They don't count. If she would have said that on the way back, then yeah, then she's saying stupid things. You're a break. Give her a break. It's like everybody just wants to catch everybody now. And she goofed.
Starting point is 01:07:29 She goofed and she said as much. And she's been notorious for goofing. And she also, and I believe her when she said I was, because some people go, well, she's famous. She's around these people all the time. Did you see her reaction when she was sitting there and Jack Nicholson came up behind her? She freaked out.
Starting point is 01:07:45 She's just the person. This is the person that got, I mean, you know, she said stupid things. And she said it. She said a stupid thing. I give credit to it. Anyway, curious what you guys think. I want to know. You think, oh, she messed up.
Starting point is 01:08:04 She got a little sitting it now forever. And I'm never going to think her the same. Or do you say, who cares? She messed up. Go ahead and tell me, a lot to talk about today on today's episode, by the way. Lots to talk about. So please, please, please. Go ahead.
