So, Disney talked about having failures within the Mandalorian, Grogu, and Moana. So as the title says, can they turn around? It's not misleading at all. It's a question. Can they turn around their biggest brand in general with one of their biggest brands, Star Wars, with Starfighter? And can they turn around with other live action and just come back and be overall dominant? They're still going to do all right this year.

But isn't misleading? No. please have a definition of what misleading is um and we are going to be discussing a bunch of other things dc hasn't announced much and we're going to talk about the kind of reasoning why when it comes to the announcement with paramount and all that so what's when are we going to see any announcements and it's going to be quite a bit uh james cameron talked about his future films a little more spider Man News and kind of an update on what's going on with the reactions with Sam and Star Wars and things of that nature.

We were right before we were going live, you and I were talking about because Chris Carr is going to be covering D23 for us.

And we're excited for that. She's going to be in the presentation and as things are going down. If we're live on air when the actual, what is it? When's the main panel again? The big thing, I think is the 14th. At the 19th at night. I need to double check all the schedule. What day is that? Is that a Saturday? That is a Friday. That is good. Okay. So depending on what time that land, you might even be able to give us some updates live and or whatever might be, we'll be kind of going. Maybe you can tweet stuff out or whatever it might be. We'll figure it out. But she's going to be our boots on the ground for D23. And then not too long in PLD, you'll be happy to hear this. So for people who have been following Sam's journey with. with Star Wars. She was so against even watching any of this, Chris. Every time I brought it up, she was like, oh, Star Wars. I mean, she's like, I loved Lord of the Rings. I loved Marvel,

but I just, Star Wars is not going to be for me. I said, you got to, you got to trust me. I got to, I got to present it the right way. And I, so I started her with Andor. I went into Rogue 1. I went into episode four to five, jumped into the prequels, one, two, and three, did the Patterson cut, and then went to return of the Jedi. And now, Not only is she like a diehard Star Wars fan. We watched Mandalorian season one and then yesterday she came in and we watched the entire Mandalorian season two yesterday, right? But the news that PLD is going to have is Sam wants to go to Star Wars celebration, which is hilarious. She wants it.

She wants to go to star was celebration. She wants to go for in and it's in LA and it's in April. Look at you see you had to pop in. Look at the bubble. There is. She can see me. She can see me there. I know.

I know. So that's one of the things that we were talking about is because it's in April. And actually, I thought it was in Anaheim. It's not. It's in Los Angeles this year. Yeah. Which or next year, whatever. And so that might be something to potentially do, depending on what the hell's going on with the pilot.

Hopefully something's going on with the pilot. And that's not just me shaking my fist going, oh, it could have been. So it's, there's a lot. There's a lot to be happening over the last, over the next, you know, shit, man, that's, that's what, April. That's pretty nuts. So, so that we have that. We have that going on. How crazy it is this?

She's like a big Star Wars fan now. I love it. I love that she's just like 10 toes down. I'm absolutely into this. This is one of my realms now. It's amazing. This is why, though, you should give stuff a try. It's why every now and then I still watch a horror movie to be like, maybe I'll like it.

You got to try. You have the try. She said to me yesterday, she goes, she, she, she, she, she, she, thinks she thinks she might like me the Manelorian season one in season two better than the movies. She loves, she loves, she loves, I knew she,

even the second Grogoo shows up, I know it was over. But like she loves, loves, loves, loves the show and loves Mando, loves me. But I'm very curious to see what happens. There's two things I wonder with her when it comes to season three. Because the quality dips in season three. Sure. And I wonder what she's going to think of the movie,

because the movie, to me, should have always been on television and should have always been intended for streaming, I'm gonna, I bet you she likes the movie. Probably. Because you're not going, oh, this is the first thing Star Wars puts out in the theater in a couple of years. Yeah, she'll have a different perspective on it.

And especially since you guys are watching it at home, you know, it's not going to be that, oh, we went out and this is, this was a thing, this was a to do. That's what it is. And it's also, you know, I get the appeal of Grogu. I really do. I'm over the go-go-gaga shit.

I'm over it. I'm over him bouncing around. I'm over it. I clearly am not. I love him so much. And she won't be either. You got to show her. Have you seen that insane little animatronic you can buy?

No. It's like a $600 puppet, man. It's insane. And I want it so bad. Send it to me because it might have to be a surprise gift or something to her for Christmas or something. It's banana grams. It's so cool.

So anyway, yeah, it's, we'll see. But the mainline Grogou, the reason I bring it up at all is because it was the subject of Disney talk recently, that and Moana, because regardless if you're PLD and your Grogu pajamas right now dancing around a rooftop hoping you were on Endor, it is, you know, you can't deny that the movie was a failure. box office was. So even Disney says as much. And Disney chief talked about both Mandalorian and Moana and said the following.

Speaking on the studio's latest earnings, call CEO Josh DeMorrow admits that both the Mandalorian and Grogo and the live action Moana remake underperformed at the box office this summer. The Star Wars film opened Memorial Day weekend to just 81 million for its domestic box office opening weekend, the lowest for a major Star Wars cinematic release. It ultimately earned $3.45 million worldwide, a far cry from the over $1 billion grosses of the sequel trilogy. Costing a reported $250 million to produce the live action Moana has only earned $262 worldwide, but the trades previously reporting that the movie stands to lose $100 million in theaters for Disney.

Tomorrow was quick to add that neither film was a bomb, and the movies contributed to reviews sources such as merchandise sales, steam, park revenue, and more. He says, even when our franchises films don't mean our box office expectations, as with the Mandalayan Grogo and the Live Action Moana, our investments in these core properties fuel other parts of our company. The Mandolary and Grogu drove healthy growth in retail sales for the Star Wars franchise

and drew guest to the updated Millennium Falcon attraction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World and led to significant engagement in gaming as well. I'm about polishing it turd. At the Live Action Moana is expected to be a strong title on Disney Plus, building on the success of the original film, which is one of the most stream movies of all time. These franchise investments contributed to value creation beyond their theatrical releases. It's a good answer from this, from him. I mean, it is the answer you have to give when you're talking to your peeps.

Theatrical performance is important to us, of course, but we can certainly aspire to deliver consistent financial results for our films. But the nature of our film industry is such that it is more of a portfolio game. The good news for us is our diversified business helps us basically cover the I can't even say the word right now. I'll tell it that comes out of the film business and the theatrical window in a lot of ways. It's just one data point and the real value of that IP is the cumulative belief of decade-long storytelling and our ability to take that IP and lay it into the entirety of the Disney flywheel. The news comes as the Disney company and TikTok announced today, first of its kind global deal that will bring curated Disney-centric fan created content from the TikTok to the Disney Plus app.

Whatever. That's the same. They were going to do that, that, I think, and they bailed on that thing, so they're doing that, yes. The first part of it is, look, as I said in the opening, this is going to be right. They have Doomsday coming out.

They have the other, what's it, the animated Pixar movie that comes out at the end of the year, I think, too. There's another one, or it's a Disney film. My camera, but they have another kid's movie coming out soon. And Spider-Man is a co-production with Sony, what I don't know what the deal is. So it's not like they're like,

Oh, we're in trouble. We've got to start looking to sell to Paramount. It's not that type of problem. But what the bigger issue is, and hence why we said, can they turn around 2027, is they're known for their kid properties. They're known for the stuff that really pops in animation and other things too. And Toy Story, by the way, is another one. It crushed. But when you have a win and then another loss, people look at the losses, especially when you have something as successful as Moana and a bigger star like the Rock.

and they overproduced that movie. And so they're going to turn that around, right? That's what they would look to do. Star Wars, as I said, like, look, you have to give that answer as the guy who's running the company. But you also have to have the real conversation behind closed doors with is, we can't do this again with Star Wars. The brand is getting damaged beyond control. And now, if they have a good win with Starfighter, which it looks like they will, if they have a win there, then they have to stay on that. path and continue to make movies if Starfighter is successful like that.

You can't do what you do. I'm watching Mandalorian and Grogu or Mandalorian rather, seasons one and season two. And I'm thinking as I'm knowing what's going on for that movie and I'm like, they dropped the ball so badly on releasing this movie not connecting it to anything because they could have still, even if you didn't have people who watch the seasons. There's this stuff that they talk about with the cloning and the stuff that they took with Grogu's blood and other things that they could have maneuvered into the Thrawn stuff and other things that they could have turned into a real movie. Instead, they made this side shit quest

that no one except PLD and six other people cared about. And it. And Logan, PLD and Logan are going to be best friends. Yeah, but it ate shit. Like, Peelty, I do, I do want to ask PILD, if there was an opportunity, I know you like the movie, you love it, you know, you've seen it 87 times. But if you, if there was a chance for them to go back in time and say, you know what? we could actually make this movie and connect it to the overall lore and the same way that the Clone Wars animated series added in some gaps for the prequels

and leading into other things. Would you rather see that or would you be good with this fart box that they did? I would rather have seen it a little more connected, absolutely. I understand what the goal was, what the idea was, but at hindsight, it wasn't a smart play. okay see all right so he's he's smarter than he looks you're not even going to defend the term fart box I'm shocked he's over it I got why bother why bother he's over it you know he's just take a whiff guys

and we were in trouble what so got I sent that to my my friend who actually said that at the sleepover party that was hilarious um anyway So we will see. I think that that phone call, what that phone call really means. Like the live action from Disney to live action, clearly with Lilo and Stitch and other things, the formula can still be there.

And if you do it the right way and you hit with the right director and you get the right cast, you could still make it work. Now, with Snow White and now this, it's not a sure thing. But you can make it work. Star Wars is the one, though, if I'm looking at Lucasfilm, I'm like, guys, everything, everything now is Starfighter is carrying Star Wars on its back. If Starfighter does not hit, like I was on Camp Asia last week and there was a question that was asked, if it doesn't make a hundred, will it make over $100 million opening weekend?

And I said, it better. It doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be a failure if it doesn't. but history shows that movies that of that caliber especially the two star wars movies that have not hit over a hundred million are solo and mandolin and grogou both the clunkers so if it doesn't hit over a hundred million i'm not even kidding i really think that disney should consider selling um lucas film to uh to apple or somebody who can actually who and retool that whole damn organization if it if it doesn't work i wonder how that would play out into the parks. I know they're all kind of separate things,

but because they've just made such an investment in having them physically there too. And that has been wildly successful. So I just, I always get confused. I know I'm a broken record on this. There are bits of Star Wars that are doing so well. I mean, PLD talked about in the chat here, you know, the ninth Jedi situation, mall was so good. There are things that are really, really great here. Visions is fantastic. But it's the stuff that's going to the big screen that we're having this big gap in quality and quantity, frankly. You know, but Chris,

not even a dip in quality. It was the first one in six years. Yeah. Or seven years, whatever it was. And it's like, yes, and you're right with the quality,

because if you look at, depending on, if you go from Force Awakens, which, you know, you go back and watch it, to me, I know what comes afterwards.

So it has diminished a little bit, in my opinion, but I liked it. I really liked it the first time I saw it. Yeah, I still think it's a good movie. The second movie, to me, again, we're on different pages, but we can agree that it just completely shattered the fan base, right?

And then they put the third one out, which could have done what Mandelorian Season 1 did, and it just, everyone thinks that movie is just the farts, the rise of the Skywalker, rise of Skywalker. And then nothing, so your quality point is valid, but then nothing for seven years. You cannot wait for seven years and then put out a TV, movie. That's a stupid business.

Well, I want one to y'all's point, too, that is not connected, really. It's such an insular story. And if we are trying to build out that universe, then you need to leave me with something else of, and now this is the threat the galaxy has to deal with. Or there's this situation. Or, oh, hey, remember how this was mentioned in previous Star Wars lore? Now we're going to dive deep into that. We're going to have this happen and set you up for some other things. And I know not everything has to be interconnected, but when you are at this crossroads where you have well-established lore, you have this kind of like story

you haven't been able to get away from the Skywalker saga. You got to really land it with something strong. And doing a rescue mission that should have been on streaming. Right. It doesn't do it. And I say that's someone who didn't dislike it as much

and had someone next to me who was losing their mind over how much they liked it. Right. Look, look, the movie itself, what they should have, they weren't going to do another season of it. They should have just released that movie as a streaming event because I still don't understand why they don't make streaming event Star Wars movies that they're going to do instead of

spending $230 million on the Acculite make a freaking $160 million streaming movie instead make it a stream that would have made that probably much better because that could have used some editing yeah we are completely on board with something in Star Wars the first time in ever that's my and my pitch and bitch for years just do a streaming movie you guys got to mark this moment in the time post I know I know but just like again because the thing with the streaming movie also what you can can do is you don't make you can't do a Sith led movie or an evil led movie in the theater. You just can't. It's harder to it. There's there's very few movies. There's some receipts you can give about what movies led with villains did well, but it's rare, right? And especially in these types

of movies. You're not going to see a Marvel movie really do it. You're not going to see a, uh, you know, these, these movies. I mean, you get anti heroes and stuff like Deadpool and stuff, but overall like villains but in a streaming movie you can do it you can absolutely do it and so i don't understand even man loring grog you spend that money you release that and then you can say hey it's a win look at the numbers that we did on streaming as opposed to everyone just shitting you on you because you put this movie on nobody knew what it was or even if you weren't paying attention after season two then it it was they tried to do the moana two thing to this and it just you know It blew up in their face.

I just wanted to throw out there last. Like, it seems like Disney has no idea what to do with that. It seems like this is a Disney decision. Moana 2. Oh, it's a TV. We can get that in movie theater. It seemed like an Iger decision. It seemed like an Iger decision.

Same thing as solo happened. They enforced the release date. They put something in there that, well, we can throw it up there. It's all good. Sure, but, I mean, yes, yes, yes, for the majority of that. However, Bob Iger didn't write it. He didn't direct it. He didn't put together.

What I was, what I'll just in the director to say, it was, let's make, you have to make it so it's accessible to everybody. And so Lucasville, maybe, maybe. Start as like, say how they made it accessible to everybody. Yeah, maybe. I think it was like a, I think that's fair. I used to have a source at Disney and there were constant discussions on just, just, just do this as a movie.

Just do this as a movie. Just like, throw this together. And it would be the, the feedback I'd be getting of like, hey, dude, like, Moana's really in trouble or like, hey, this is happening. That's really weird right now. And it was a lot of just like, just, just figure it out so you can throw it in a theater. Just figure this out so we can try to make some money.

and they'd use the code names too. So like the Captain America stuff, they'd be like, oops, all berries, better perform for everybody. You know? So it was just like a bunch of suits telling you like, just make it work and like Frankenstein it together

so you can put it in theaters. So I think you guys are onto something there of just there is a little bit of that studio interference that they're going. I don't need to look at that script maybe. Just do it. Just do it. So anyway, I think that Disney obviously,

someone asked, did they really admit failure? if they said that the box office and everything else did well i mean again they're putting lipstick on a pig you know and it's like for like well look here are the here are the positives let's it's not sky isn't falling just yet we got all this stuff that happened with the merchandise we have stuff that happen here so the the brand's not dead don't worry don't worry we're we're in good shape it just you know those movies didn't do all we want them to do good but they didn't you just again it was it's politics but um for their stockholders they're going to look like those numbers

are fine too because of the layoffs. So it kind of can resolve that stuff out. Yes. So anyway, very curious what people think about the conversation, the phone call, all that and more. All right, Chris, things that happen on, you know, when we're talking, news is always breaking. Things are always happened. Do you hear the news that during the, you look at the chat sometimes and we're going

I'm just letting people know that I'm going to be doing something soon that does not allow the host to look at the live chat. the show it's it's you're you're pretty locked in in general so but it's it's just a it's a distraction it's a distraction that's fair um but your show man you do what you want to do right you're you're at everybody who looks at the chat though you're you're the one i i'm concerned about the least um but i will say that i don't know if you saw this while the chat was going on there's some news that broke and um this indeed is the news talking about x-man and kit

Connor now is eyed for the Cyclops role in the upcoming Marvel Studios pick. We said once that Emma Frost news came in, this was going to just start rolling out. This is how it happens. I don't know who this kid is, Kid Connor. Really? What's he in? So he was in Heart Stoppers, which is a Netflix show based on a graphic novel. He was a little baby Elton John in Rocket Man.

That's what I first saw him in when he was a wee lad. That's a long time. Right. Right. Okay. So nothing, look, I'll tell you this. I don't know who he is. And maybe there's something else that I saw when I read the stuff here.

Looking at this picture, just this picture that we're looking at right here, got the look. Definitely has the look. After the news that Samarra Ween was in the line for the Emma Frost role in the upcoming X-Men, it looks like Marvel Studios has founded Scott Summers. As sources tell deadline that Kit Conner says the choice, not even the audition. He's the choice for the mutant cyclops. Similar to the weaving situation where Jake Shrier and Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feigy met with a number of candidates.

Sources say the studio has ultimately landed on Connor last week as the latest actor to Don the Cyclops Viser. Marvel and reps for Connor could not be reached for comment on the casting. While James Bond has had everyone's attention this summer, the most active casting process has been Who Will Play the New Team of Mutants, following a number of meetings and auditions over the last couple of months, sources say a small group of actors tested after the 4th of July holiday and after a lot of back and forth, Marvel landed on Connor as the choice to play Summer. Summers has been one of the cornerstones of the X-Men comics, first appearing in the 63 X-Men comic from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

The character has always been seen as the captain of the mutants, best known, with the powerful beams of energy emitted from his eyes that he controls through a visor and various sunglasses. Characters played by two actress in the past, James Marsden and Ty Sheridan, who'll play him in the 2010. Marsden's already confirmed to reprise the role in the upcoming Doomsday pick this December. The latest development is sure to excite fans of the franchise who have been begging for new X-Men movies since the acquisition of 20th century's Fox.

X-Mewverse was by far the most popular and profitable Marvel IP that Fox controlled, counting seven films and a successful Wolverine spinoff franchise. The new project gained momentum last spring when Shreyer was tapped to direct, followed by beef creator Lee Sung-Jinn and the Bayer co-creator Joanna Kalo, hired to pen the script. Connor Starr's has been on the rise since

this scene stealing role in Netflix series Heart Stopper, recently reprising the role in a movie Spinoff, Heartstopper Forever. He was in, oh, he was in warfare? What was he in warfare? I mean, I liked warfare. I don't remember him,

that as well as the upcoming video game adaptation, Eldon Ring. Oh, so he's got, yeah, so he's kind of up and coming and people are paying attention to him. So, like I said, I don't know anything about the guy, but from what it looks like,

he's got the look, and clearly he's the one that, it seems like this is who, who the guy. is who it's going to be what I have heard and I've talked about this many times this is a big announcement because Cyclops I think it's going to be Cyclops and Gene Gray are the two focus and they're going to be the stars of the X-Men movies now Hugh Jackman was essentially Wolverine was the star of the X-Men movies during the Fox era where James Morrison

did a great job but everybody kind of feels that Cyclops was kind of done dirty in those the case I think this time around. I think this is a reason why this is being talked about now because this guy and Gene Gray are going to be the two leads of these movies. And I don't think, and I think you shouldn't see Wolverine unless it's a post-credit scene or in the second one. I completely agree with that. Well, because from the comics, too, Wolverine wasn't a big character for quite a while. You know, we're looking at our very core X-Men. And I love Hugh Jackman. I think he's been so wonderful in the role, but I think to make people enjoy whoever takes Wolverine next, you need to give it a little break. Right. You need to give it a little air. And this also answers

so many questions, too, about how these relationships are going to work, at least for me, because by having Genecast and then immediately going to Emma Frost with, you know, a 10-year age gap between those two actresses, I did have a lot of questions of. Is Emma Frost going to be in that older generation, kind of like more of a teacher being the headmistress, being a mentor potentially to Gene, or are they going to be romantic rivals? Because in the comics, Scott Summers and Emma Frost hook up all the time and they have a relationship. The X-Men are so messy.

Yeah. That's why we love them. Yeah. And then, you know, the thing is that Wolverine has just brought so much excitement to the, and he always does every single time he's on. That's why I think you have to wait. You let the X-Men build upon themselves and build momentum and build momentum and become the stars that they were before,

like you said, before Wolverine entered the comics, right, and let them do that in movies. So when that post-credit scene comes or the sequel comes, and Wolverine does show up and people are wondering what the casting is there, you let them earn it so you don't have to just rely on Wolverine again. And because if you just put Wolverine in there again,

that's what everybody's going to want again. It's going to be the spin-up of a Wolverine, who's Wolverine, who got cast as Wolverine, is a Wolverine movie. And then the ultimate conversation is going to be, Is he better than Hugh Jackman? Is it this?

And it becomes all about Wolverine again. And it's my favorite character. Hands down. And from the comics and everything too. But I want to see them really give Scott Summers his due. I think that this is the kid now that is going to attempt to do that. Absolutely. And this kid, too, to his credit, he is a very strong actor.

He has done, you know, stints on Broadway. He was Romeo and Juliet. He's got a voice acting credit under his name, too, with Wild Robot. He's bright Bill in that. He's a really, really strong actor. And then a fun bit of synergy. So also Bright Bill is kind of my like little, oh yeah, you can do an American dialect, kiddo. Let's go.

He also in a fun moment of synergy, his co-star in Heartstopper, Joe Locke, he's an Agatha Allong. He's Billy. And so it's cool to have all these guys coming together. And I think this is a really smart casting choice. I think it's really wise to start with those younger teenage X-Men so that we can. and have those gifted youngsters and really establish, you know, why mutants are seen as a threat, how this is so difficult because of the gene kind of really like igniting once you're going through puberty and you're like the worst version of yourself while you have superpowers.

I think this is really smart for storytelling and also just for the longevity of this series too. It also has got to have these kids sign on for like five movies. That's what I was going to say. It also shows kind of like the older school way of Marvel doing things where they're like, okay, we're casting young, we're casting for the future, we're casting in general, right, with not like the big names, even, I mean, even tomorrow weaving is a, that's a name that brings weight, but she's not like a megastar yet. She's not a megastar. She's a, she's been in some hit, she's been some hit movies and things too, but she's, she's a name that people are starting

to recognize. And if you're in, if you pay attention to movie news and other things you know her, but she's not like a household name yet. So that's a good get. They haven't got the big movie star yet, which they will, and it'll probably be something along the lines for Professor X or Magneto or something like that, because you build out the cast and you rely on the name of the X-Men and you rely on the storytelling that you're setting up now from the movies you're putting in the theater today, that you're going to be then moving on to Doomsday and, you know, Secret Wars and all that. And you're leading now into the X-Men storytelling, that you'll have enough, interest in what's happening that you don't have to cast. Well, who the hell else is in it? And by the way,

and this, I don't want to, I mean, I still don't want to put spoilers out there, but there are people in movies that are happening within the last two or three years that you could put in these movies now that maybe weren't as well known. But now that they are, it adds to the star power of, oh, well, they were in a really big movie. They were in a movie that was, was popular. And so now I know that person even more than I did a couple years ago. Absolutely. Yeah. So I like the cast.

Okay, let's talk about, Chris, let's talk about Spider-Man because I haven't gotten your thoughts on the movie yet. And it's just doing incredible business right now. And you're part of that business. You saw it. You spent your money to see it.

Any regrets? No, not a one. I was so pleased about it. We actually did an episode about this on Two Filty Casuals last week. Because Amy wasn't as jazzed about this movie as I was, which she decidedly is not a big, like, superhero person. Okay. But I really enjoyed this. And I'm so glad I was wrong about stuff because my concern going in was this feels a little overstuffed.

I mean, we're getting tombstone. We're getting the hand. Yeah, yeah. And I'm so happy it was basically a montage at the beginning. Yeah, it was like what they did in Fantastic for. Yeah, I like that it was, let's catch up. I love just how, like, straight from those splash pages, straight from the comic book covers, those moments were. I thought Tom Holland was so excellent in this.

It's great. He was wonderful. Yeah, it really was. What a good time to be Tom Holland. Odyssey, Spider-Man, Zendaya. Cushing it, man. And Bernthal, too. Yes.

Oh my gosh. Yeah. All three of them. All three of them are having a really great time. Bernthal's great in this. And I love to, and, you know,

we mentioned having these kind of like events or specials on the streamer. His Punisher special was so great in that it just added so much to me understanding why he was in this movie, but I didn't need it. You know, I went and saw it with somebody who was like,

oh, I skipped that. I didn't see it. And they didn't have any of, they weren't missing any pieces. Sam didn't see either. Yeah. Same with Sam. Yeah.

And she loved him. Oh, when you go home, watch it. And they were like, oh, my gosh, this adds so much to it. Like, of course he would feel for this kid. Of course this is happening. Right. It's just a really, really well done movie. Is it perfect?

No, there's a couple of little issues here and there, but I was a big fan. Sorry, I interrupted. No, no, no. You didn't. Speaking of Bernthal, I didn't notice this until it's a bit. Have you seen like now, now as he becomes a bigger star and where people are posting things about him and he's like this montage of his stuff and it's like, this guy has always, always wants to ask us something is what the Instagram post edit and it's clips of him and he does do this a lot.

He goes, let me, let me tell you something. Let me, let me ask you something. Let me tell you something. You know, if I got to tell you something, I got to tell you something. He says, tell you something. Let me ask you something. Let me ask you a question. Let me ask you a question. He says it in everything he's in. And I wonder if it's like a thing that he does, you know, like an actor thing. I always remember like dating few as a kid with like Mitch will like touch his nose. And like there's always like, like something the little the little things that the actor has and his is let me tell you something let me ask you a question and i can never not hear it now oh it's his wow yeah yeah yeah yeah let me tell you something brother let me tell you something it is if you go if do do like a see pld or or luke or somebody

He's great. The best is when he delivers it, though, with like the little sniff thing, too. And he's like, yeah, let me tell you something, Brian. Let me ask you something. Let me ask you. Anyway, so the movie itself, what I wanted to get into is we were talking, like the box office side of it, which is insane what this movie is doing. It's breaking these records. That's why I told somebody the other day. Like, when it comes to, the idea that this movie, because you looked at what The Odyssey did in week two,

and it was like 29%. The odds of that happening with after making $1 billion, you know, and odds of doing a 29% drop is almost slim to none, right? Because most people who want to see the movie have seen the movie. However, this movie is doing things that I cannot tell anybody it's because there are a few people who said, it's impossible. It can't happen. It's not going to happen. I, if it is, if it is monetarily possible, it is monetarily possible. I mean, you know, people could go and see it a million times over. And it is possible. I'm just saying, don't rule anything out. I don't think it'll happen. I think you have a better shot, which is still an incredible number if it does 50%. If it does

50% of the billion, it'll make another $500 million is what it was projected to make in week one. And the reason why you can't count it out is because the money is making on Monday and Tuesday. So this is what it did on Tuesday because on Monday it was $46 million, which is the biggest Monday ever. Let's just did it again on Tuesday. And now it's the biggest Tuesday ever. The records keep piling up for Spider-Man. And Spider-Man, Brain New Day, keeps delivering more records in the breathtaking box office launch for the film that stars Tom Holland and Zendaya. The Sony Pictures feature has set the record for the biggest Tuesday in domestic box office history with $42 million for the day.

This surpasses the previous Tuesday record that Sony held with Spider-Man far from home, which earned 39.2 on July 2nd. Spider-Man brand-new day has no shortage of brand-new records as the director Destin Daniel Cretton's film continues its high-flying start. The day prior, it also set the record mark for highest-grossing Monday domestically, has become the fastest feature to hit 400 million domestic. domestically doing so in just four days to bringing its North America total to 449 million as Tuesday morning. Over the weekend, Brand New Day was in a close battle with endgame for the biggest domestic opening weekend. The competition culminated in Sony's confirming Monday morning that Spidey had prevailed to claim the crown with 360 surpassing end games 357. Although the latter's 1.2 billion global launch maintained the record for worldwide opening weekend. Brand New Day became the second fastest featured across the billion dollar mark when Sony announced Tuesday.

morning that it reached the threshold in six days. Spider-Man, brand-new day also sets the biggest Thursday previews and top Friday opening domestic sum along with becoming Sony's best ever launch. So, yeah, Chris, I mean,

these numbers are crazy. Now, I still think that realistically, you're probably looking at like a 60, 65% drop, you know, which is still pretty damn good for a billion-dollar opening movie. On the table for this film,

depending because I think the difference is and when did brand new day come out Pieldy I think that brand new day came out that's that's this one uh no way home I always I get them confused when did no way home come out in no way home come out in May or or June in I think so in 2021 which it's still crushed but it did have competition you know down down the line when did it come I don't remember when it came out um it may even been November for all I remember July someone says let's see hold on someone saying something um no I got to let me let me know somebody knows when the hell it came out someone says it was December December is when it came out okay which makes sense because it came out in 2021 and they couldn't release it in the summer of

2021 because it's still pandemic stuff was happening and it was a little bit better in December of 2021 and they did and it still made that money but how much competition it ultimately had in December. I don't remember. But I still think that this movie just has nothing in its way. It's got nothing. It's got nothing in its way. And it's got no pandemic. It's got nothing. It's got it is there's no competition for this movie whatsoever. So I don't know. I think sky is a limit for this film. Chris, remember what I was telling you that I thought that Avengers could be the movie that potentially makes $3 billion? It is not crazy if someone made a prediction today that this movie could hit $3 billion.

I feel like that would be a pretty like reasonable bet. Right. This movie's got legs, I think. I mean, there's touch rewatchability. And yeah, the last film was overcoming a lot of stuff and it kind of reinvigorated theaters. We were so excited to get back and it was a spectacle, right?

We had all the spider men coming back. Yeah. This, what it has in its favor is it's so damn good. Yeah. It's just a great movie. It's a character-driven story. Yeah. If you're not a superhero being like person,

this is still so well done that you will be on board because of that incredible humanistic storytelling we're doing. And then there's also just really cool shit that happens. Spider-Man Fight Ninjas? Come on. I know. There's a lot of cool stuff. And people just really enjoy it. And it's like, I just said the reason I really liked it is because it just treated the audience with respect. And for a big blockbuster movie, summer movie. People are still like kind of rooting and hoping for like the overall storyline for Marvel to start working again.

It is Spider-Man. So all that stuff is kind of working in its face. So I don't know, sky's the limit. We'll see how it does. And we're paying attention to what it does this weekend because if it makes another, I mean, shit, man, if you have Monday made close to 50 today, yesterday made close to 50, you're looking at almost another 200 million by the time you hit Friday, right? So you add that up there and then add that to whatever this weekend is going to look like.

It's going to be an interesting Monday conversation as all. I'm saying. So that's it. What do you guys think about it? How much is it ultimately going to make in its run? And I still, I don't know what the bet is anymore between this and Doomsday. I really just don't. I don't. Someone asked me what I thought was going to make more, you know, a month ago. And I said, Doomsday, no, no question. I don't know if that's the answer anymore. I just this, this movie, the way this movie is because this movie has already proven that people love it. We don't know. We haven't heard anything really about Doomsday, whether people are going to love it or not. if they do feel the same way because of the momentum Spider-Man has, it could be the same to, you know, to back-to-back for Marvel. I don't know, Chris, do you think different? I mean, I still, watching this, I didn't really have any bolster of enthusiasm for Doomsday. Okay. What I feel like this proves, once again, is that Spider-Man is just so beloved.

You know, he is widely accepted as one of the most popular and commercially successful characters. I believe I looked this up last week. I think his lifetime IP like merchandise sales are somewhere around like $29 billion. Wow. People love this dude. I love this dude. He's got me into comic books. And I always feel like he's a fairly safe bet

for you as long as you don't go totally off the rails like we had with a Spider-Man 3 or Amazing Spider-Man 2 kind of situation. But those both did well. They still made money. It's just the fans didn't like it, right? Totally, totally. And people still will see these movies. Whereas I feel like these big event films with Marvel are a little bit more,

do I really want to see it? At least at this point in time, I'm hoping they can ride this wave. I'm hoping this gets people into the theaters and that doomsday ends up being really, really phenomenal. But I don't think it's a one-to-one of this did so well. So now we can. No, no, I don't either.

I don't either. I think the Avengers has a bigger IP boost than most. You've got a whole bunch of folks in there. Yeah. And Downey and the rest of them have the casual fan is what is what the hook is. And that's what they're trying to do with the casting with bringing everybody back. So that's another conversation for sure because I don't disagree when it comes to just superhero movies in general. Thunderbolts was a really good movie.

No one saw it. Nobody cared. Fantastic four. Oh, we got them back. Nobody cared. You got to really get the audience excited for them to come back. And look, shit, man. Superman did good.

good, right? So they're like, oh, Supergirl, no one cared. So it's like you got to, you really have to make a great movie in order for people to, and that hype has to be there. And the difference, again, with Doomsday is that, as where Spider-Man does not have this, as I just mentioned, Doomsday has to fight up against Dune. Now, I still think Doomsday is going to be the overall winner in that battle, but it's still going to chip at the box office. Now, could it add people in the way that like this movie, when it was sold out or when Odyssey was sold out, like, oh, what else am I going to see? Maybe they could have helped. I just think that they're competing audiences. They'd probably just wait. You don't think it's going to be a Dune's Day situation?

I mean, I just feel like the Barbie, the Barbenheimer thing was just different. Barbentham because those are two different audiences. You know, in the same way that there was, when Force Awakens was out there, the Tina Faye and, uh amy polar movie was it step sisters or what the hell is that movie called i can't remember what it was called whatever it was some movie that they had that came out and it did crazy business because it was alternate programming and then that's the same with barbie and oppenheimer the different programming um same programming i'll wait until the one i'm i'm looking forward to is is available um but maybe i'm wrong i don't know maybe it'll maybe it'll maybe it'll

sisters was the name of it um so anyway to what everybody thinks put your thoughts in there let us know mention um about superman and supergirl and there hasn't really been a lot of announcements with dc the things that are coming up minus minus manna tomorrow lantern's coming out but they've been holding back on any announcements and i think rightfully so and so comic book movie had an interesting article that we're going to get into and uh one of those discovery paramount merger could explain why dc studios has explained nothing thing beyond 2027. I don't know about could. I think it's like definitively. You don't know what the hell's going on. Why would you start announcing stuff? Uh, so Paramount's 111 billion acquisition of

Warner Brothers Discovery could prove problematic for DC Studios and may even explain why the DCU slate currently ends with 2027's manna tomorrow. It's been three and a half years since DC studios first unveiled its slate of DCU projects and it hasn't all been smooth sailing since then. And there are questions about Paramount's acquisition of Warner Rose Discovery and what it will mean for James Gunn and Peter Saffron, Supergirl losing upwards of $200 million isn't going to do them any favors with the Ellison family, meaning the fate of both the co-CEOs and the DCU could now rest on the shoulders of Clayface and Man of Tomorrow. Nothing has been announced beyond those aside that Jimmy Olson TV show and a new piece from The Holly Reporter could explain why. There are a few clauses in the merger agreement that could cause issues as time goes on. For starters, there are limits on deals involving key property IP, both for new deals or licensing deal to a 30.

party. The agreement does not specify what qualifies as a key property, but one can safely assume franchises like Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and DC are among them. In simple terms, this means that Warner Brothers Discovery will likely hold off on producing any new DC content until being given the green light from Paramount. This could significantly delay planned project similar to when Zazlov took over in 2022. It may lead to project in active development like Batgirl being scrapped if they don't fit the new owner's vision. So until mid-20207, it seems all DC studios can do is work on projects already in the works before the merger process began. The deal is expected to close by late next year, and this update potentially explains why the Batman 2 has been pushed to 2008.

That move ensures Paramount can benefit from the movie's release. Despite facing various legal hurdles, deadline has confirmed that the UK authorities have now given Paramount's $111 billion acquisition in the Green Light. the UK represented one of the last major obstacles to David Ellison landing the prize. With that now out of the way, Paramount Boss can focus on the lawsuit from the U.S., which is set to go out on trial in March of 2027. Okay, so I still feel, I mean, look, it's still, it's a political thing and everything, too. We'll see what happens by the end of the year.

But I think that there's still, I still feel Paramount's going to get this in general, but this overall makes sense to me, as we've been talking about, that if you're Warner Brothers, you just don't start making movies and announcing stuff in the way that, you know, Kathleen Kennedy would announce 15 different movies coming up and then you're like, oh, we've got to cancel them all because the Ellison's don't want any of those.

Exactly. Yeah. Yeah. No, you don't want to be Lucy Van Pelt constantly taking the football away, not only from the people who are potentially going to see your projects, but also, again, your investors, the people who do own stock in your company and everything as well. It makes you look volatile.

It makes you look unsafe. You're a poor investment. And since they have no idea what they're doing moving forward, they don't know who's going to be running this company potentially. They don't know who's going to be the heads of all these various, like, different factions within there too. So why would you make these announcements? It's,

this is the same way that when I am cast in something, I do not tell anyone because it is very likely, I'll be cut. You know, there's nothing worse than going to watch a TV show and going, I'm not in it. Why would I want to do that with my entire company and go, Hey, we've got all this cool stuff coming up.

Just kidding. Right. And, you know, in regards to the things that are already out there, now, they definitely need to get a little bit more juice, depending on, even if it goes through, if it doesn't go through, if you're saffron and gun, you need more juice. Because, as we said, was Supergirl a huge disappointment overall? Yes, it was. Is it the end of your DCU? No, it's not. it because you have these other projects that are out there that people will forget a failure

pretty fast if you put hits out after it however they remember the failures a lot if there's another one right behind it because if you get if lanterns turn it because the last trailer for landers is pretty damn good if the show turns out and it's like day it was not great and then clay face you're like oh man that could have been a lot better than it was um then you're going to be in a lot of trouble, especially with Man of Tomorrow coming around. However, if Lanterns delivers and people are like, whoa, they should have led with this type of trailer to get this,

this show is so spectacular. It's amazing. It's one of the best things DC's ever done. Then people are like, oh, okay, now I'm a little more hyped up for Clayface. And then Clayface turns out to be this major hit off of a small budget and shows that their strategy from doing this thing, people are going to forget about Supergirl pretty quick. They'll still use it in, you know, conversations here and there.

But if Man of Tomorrow, Clayface, and Lanterns all hit in quality, then by the time if a Paramount deal goes through, then you're in good shape. Yeah. Well, you talked about this at the beginning of the show. People remember you for the last thing you did, whether or not that was a win or a loss. And so it is that we just have to keep that momentum in order to keep this DCU moving forward. because money talks. And why would you, as much as I would hate to see it go,

because I am a person who has enjoyed the majority of these things, Supergirl, not so much, but I like a lot of what guns brought to the table. And I'd like to see this kind of breathe and see what it's supposed to actually come to to and see all that come to fruition. But if it's not doing well, if audiences aren't responding to it, you got to pivot, regardless of how you feel about these individuals. So I can completely understand it. Did you see that op-ed that's making the rounds on socials?

Where it's a kind of, it's a suggestion of, hey, George Clooney, just go buy Warner Brothers. And it's, it's this piece that's like, hey, like, do you should try to do this like United Artists thing again. Because all these actors keep writing letters of we are against this and we do not want this merger to go through. And it's basically just a piece of going, well, then why don't you guys get together and buy it then? Right. And the way that they did like those theaters in Westwood, right? Exactly. Yeah. I thought it was really interesting of, oh, that's, that's a lot better than it's just.

bitching about what's happening. It's true. If you put together like a whole, you know, take the richest actors who make all these, this freaking money and have them do it. The problem is, then, then, then, you know, if they're all running it, what the hell's that look like? You know, I don't, I don't know. I don't know what the, what the solution is. Either way, that's what we got today. Those are our stories. So love to hear your thoughts on that one. I think she was 3 and 0 at that time. And Sam Levine was maybe they were both 2 and 0. I can't remember. 2 and 0 or 3.0. I can't remember, but nonetheless, it's going up today. Okay, first one, Nathan Drake. I'd love to fail like Disney. Toy Story made a billion and they could get around 25%

from Spider-Man brand-new-day success and Doomsday will be huge. Well, yeah. But listen, but it doesn't change the fact that you still have these other IPs and these other things, these big properties. It doesn't matter for the rest of your stuff is doing well. These failures that they're having in particular, these particular projects, they want to get back on board. So it is a failure, especially for what they've done with Star Wars brand.

They've almost destroyed it. Okay. Noah Lawson. And Noah says, A shame Timothy Zahn's novels from the 90s never got adapted. Sam would have loved where the story continued with Luke, Mara, and Thrawn.

Emera Jade and Thron were, it was a great storyline. I would have loved to seen it for sure. But Lucas was famously not a fan of the those extended universe stuff. I think that's kind of one of the reasons that Filoni, well, if George didn't like it, I don't like it either.

and I think that's what happened. Noah Lawson. I know there's a world Flonny's adapting heir to the empire, but the last thing I need is him peeing all over his own's wonderful stories. Well, he kind of already did that where, remember, like, Thrawn, Throne didn't, well, wasn't that. Let me be fair. He didn't do that.

Thrawn, in the novels, took place right after Return of the Jedi, like right afterwards. So they couldn't do that from the way that the canon and the way that the new sequels had been set up. So Floney actually did what he could do and brought Thron into rebels during that timeline and did the best he could with it. I just think that since then, they just kind of dropped the ball. He was, he was, he was pretty, he was pretty great in rebels. It was just so, such a letdown in that Asoka series.

I had to, I had to, once the episode was over, I had to explain to her that, you know, Soca was Anakin's apprentice or, or, or, or, uh, Padawan. And I had to explain this. I had to explain stuff about when, when, and then where is Thrawn? She's like, who the hell's Thrawn? And I had to explain that. And it's like, you know, we're not going to go back and watch it. the animated stuff. It's just too much of it and don't have time for it. And you shouldn't

rely on the audience to know all that stuff. And, and Asoka, she's going to be freaking lost because of all the rebel stuff. So I think it's, it's really, that was a, that was one of the really bad moves I think that Flonie made, I think. Um, but, you know, some of it worked. I mean, I think that they did, you know, the stuff that they did with Bocatan, I think the way that they, you didn't necessarily have to know all of her history. certainly helps if you do. Yeah. But I don't know. Um, fuzzy bubbles. It's crazy that Bernthall Holland is there in the two biggest movies. It's crazy. Yeah, it is for sure. And the way that they did that was nuts. And then they can't win into part 2, but it wasn't about Thanos. He was one of the, he was the main antagonist, but the movie was about them. It was about the Avengers about them trying to figure it out.

I'm talking about an actual villain story. Villain film. Infinity Four was not a villain film. The villain won. Empire Strikes Back. Villains win. But it's not a villain film. That's just, that's just incorrect.

You're talking Joker. The Joker, right. I didn't say, I didn't say that it did, that I literally said when I made that point, it happens every once in a while. But it doesn't happen all. And DC has Joker's, they're doing it with Clayface, right? DC can do that with villains and you can do a smaller movies, but the big huge movies, a Star Wars movie, very hard to do.

Very hard to do. Okay. Alexander Wilson, don't forget that Disney released, The Devil Wears Product too. That made $690 and $100 million budget. That made more than Project Hillmarion. You know, it should feel like the answer to everyone kind of really enjoying like fantasy fiction right now and do a getting this adaptation, it's proper due. You got to really just push it as like a cool, adult or more adult, darker Disney film. Yeah, I agreed.

Alexander Wilson, they don't need to sell Star Wars. Tony Gleroy's show you can make a great Star Wars movie and TV show when you hire great storytellers and not cartoon writers. Right. not that he didn't appreciate it, not that he didn't think that it was a well-made show. but from what I hear, people who make big decisions in Star Wars didn't think that Gilroy's show followed the Star Wars template. That's why you're not going to see a lot of that type of stuff again. So I agree with you.

that would have to be committed on that one. And then you get into legal stuff with solicited stuff and things of that nature. That one's a tougher one because what I don't want to do, I want to make sure that anything promised on this, that it is taken care of,

it's our obligation. We have to make sure that we get that done for you guys. What I don't want to do is, okay, there's a script that comes in and like, okay, I'm in the middle of whether it's shooting something for the channel or doing some of the pilot. And then you have to read Hunter's script. It's part of the thing. I'm like, oh, okay. And I'm sitting there. And what if I don't get to it in time? That makes me nervous because it's not that, that's not a no. It just makes me nervous. And let's say like 15 people do it. Now I'm going to read 15 scripts and I'm back at Silver Pictures. So unless the rumors are true, maybe, again, I don't know who peeled these. scoopers are, but like maybe if the rumors are true that he was adamant about his I don't want to do this and this is a bad move, then that's another question. Again, we don't know the movie.

So it's hard to say. More stuff should probably come out than the line. I haven't heard anything though. And I just thought of it and I hate that it's going to happen, but it's going to happen. Because of everything that's probably going to happen in battle world and everything else too, each new X-Men will be set up. It is going to be about Gene Gray and Cyclops. But Hugh Jackman's going to be involved some way or another in that new X-Men movie to transition them. And then that allows us to not meet the new Wolverine for a little bit.

probably right and then it'll be this wistful moment of just like no i knew a version of you yeah not you i know uh anyway alexander wilson christian i remember back in the day you were a huge proponent of phloony running star wars i was can you explain why you felt that way back in the day listen from what his like i said his storytelling is is second to none and when i was watching um rebels and Clone Wars and everything too. It furthers my point now. I think that he should be running animation and they should be doing more animated stories.

They should be doing more adult animated stories as well. They should be doing stuff like arcane in the Star Wars world, right? They should be doing that and he should be the guy running it. He runs it really, really well. I thought back in the day because of his understanding of Star Wars, I didn't know how at the time, how, and just things that I I've heard of how tight he, you know, he's just too much of a gatekeeper with the way he thinks things should be and doesn't really understand the overall. He doesn't have the experience of other people that are in the industry.

He's too green inside of this being an executive to run this project. And when you see the stuff that he has done that has transitioned, it just feels like live action cartoons. And it doesn't, and that doesn't transfer over all the time. Yeah. Some people do it well, right? Yeah. Lord understand those different mediums really, really well. And I never want to besmirch like if you are an animator or that's your thing, stay in your lane.

Because that's something they've spoken about at length of that's what you get told in animation school and everything too. Maybe one day you'll graduate to real movies. So it's always, and this is for actors, this is directors, this is writers. You have to know your medium and you know have to know how you switch between it. And if you are excellent at one of those mediums, there's nothing wrong with staying in that lane. And I will say he did, and I just watched, there's quite a few episodes in Mandalorian season one and season two that he directs and does, and does a good job for sure. And same thing with Favro, but then you, Favro, I love Favre. I didn't, I, Mandeleine and Grigua might be my least favorite John Favre directed film.

That's fair. It just, it just doesn't have that kind of same kind of magic that his other stuff has had. What's your favorite? It's either elf or the first Ironman or Chef, I think. Let me see. I really like Chef a lot. Chef's my favorite. Yeah, that would be up there. Let's see.
