Starting point is 00:00:01 Hey, you was good. Ah, there's like one guy that when apparently I was the first face they saw, they just started laughing. I don't know, somebody thought that, like, Christian had done some weird deep fake, like, ish. I'm realizing I have to be very careful not to swear because the whole monetization thing. It's hard. It's really hard because I just want to say all of the worst things always. But I'm not going to, because I'm responsible. And Christian is sick, and he asked me to do this for him.
Starting point is 00:00:30 So I'm going to be chill about it. I'm going to be mellow, all right? No, what is not very mellow of you? The fact that you haven't already subscribed to this channel, man. We're trying to get to 100K. Thank you so much for helping us get to 70. Now we're going on the road because of that. We're going to talk about that a little bit.
Starting point is 00:00:45 But we're trying to get to 100 now. You see Brett over here riding Christian like his daddy. It's amazing. You've got to subscribe to the channel if you haven't already. If you don't do that, make sure you go over to Spotify. you listen to the big thing podcast, Sith Council, capes and cows. We're over there.
Starting point is 00:01:04 We're doing the damn thing. We got video over there too, man. So for those of you that just don't want to watch it on the YouTube platform, you want to watch it on Spotify. You can do that. We're on Apple podcast as well. Don't forget that. And then we sell, like, t-shirts and stuff.
Starting point is 00:01:17 That's a thing. We got that Sith Council hoodie. You see that. You don't know ish over there. The capes and cow show some class. Show some class, man. Go buy some merch. It'll look good on you.
Starting point is 00:01:28 Do the damn thing. Speaking of doing the damn thing, Christians out being sick, Koi's out being famous, you know, talking to people, meeting more people at convention so he can name drop them later. So I had to go and get somebody else to help me out.
Starting point is 00:01:43 You'll find out who it is in just a moment because we got a lot to talk about because promoter's gone, son. That's it. That's a wrap. He is done. Finally. We didn't have a chance to talk about Jonathan Majors yet.
Starting point is 00:01:55 That happened this past weekend. Man, we're going to have to get into it. I don't want to. but we're gonna. We got more news on Victoria Alonzo. And then we got some exciting news potentially with the Batman, one of my favorite villains. Who is it, you might ask? We're going to fight out in just a moment. So let's go ahead and do it, y'all. It's capes and cows.
Starting point is 00:02:25 All right, all right, all right, y'all. So welcome again to this episode of capes and cows this Friday, March 31st. And look, this is no joke. This is no April Fool's early or anything like that. Both Koi and Christian are gone. It's just me. to go and get probably the only person I know that knows more about Batman than me. And I know a lot about Batman. So ladies and gentlemen, from the Sith Council from D.C. movie news,
Starting point is 00:02:54 none other than the killer. Mike Kalanowski is in the building. What's up, Mike? How you doing, man? What's up? What's up, man? It's so good to have you on here. I didn't realize that you got so mad at Christian for not being on the comic book show.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Come on, man. I was an IG champion at the time. And you're doing a, you're doing a comic book show and I'm not in it? This shit. I get it, man. I get it. You guys are running since the council. You were handling that.
Starting point is 00:03:20 That's the thing, man. That guy, you know, I trusted him. And he's like, hey, man, I'm going to do a Star Wars show. And at the time, you know, I was like, all right, I love Star Wars. But he's like going to get, but talk about him and his love of Star Wars and it kind of reignited the whole thing that's been going on with the past couple years with Disney Plus and everything. So we're having a blast. You know, and I get it.
Starting point is 00:03:39 It's different voices and the panel that he put together with the three of us over there and sit and then you guys, the panel on capes and cowls, it's different stuff. So it worked out great. Yeah, no, but I mean, it's fun. I really loved how with our live thing last Friday. For those that didn't see it, we did the whole announcement for Christian Harlov.com, announced the tours. We got to mix up the panels a little bit. And it was actually kind of fun chatting with you about this stuff, which is why I'm excited to have an entire show to like kind of break some stuff down. Oh, yeah, muddy. Hell yeah. I hate that the top half is all real serious nonsense. But we'll get into some actual comic news and a little bit further into the show. Before we do that, folks, for those that didn't hear again, we have announced that we are going on tour. And our first stop for that is going to be April 28th Friday at Flappers in Burbank, California.
Starting point is 00:04:30 This will be the kickoff live event for the big thing tour. Everybody will be there, Brett Coy, Roxy, Kate, myself, Steph, and Mike. We'll all be there. Some of us doing some stand-up. It'll be a good time. Mike, I don't think I've ever do you to see you do stand-a-man. Are you doing some jokes? No, I'm not doing jokes.
Starting point is 00:04:48 Come on now. Okay. I just had to check in. I don't know. I could. I mean, I don't know. I like a challenge as much as the next guy, but, you know. Look, look, man, I can come dressed as Tchala and you can come dressed as Bruce and we can just, like, do an improv.
Starting point is 00:05:05 We just going to do it. Yeah. It'll be a loose 15. It'll be a good time, man. But are you excited about it? About doing this show and hitting the road? I love doing live stuff. Love doing live stuff.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Like, just being in a room with all you guys and what comes out of it, you know. I had fun not just doing that, you know, that kind of smorgas bored of us last week, but to do, like, you know, the stuff that comes out like Kate and like, I had no idea Kate had a great Steph impression because I work with Steph every week. And that came on. It killed me. So. Bro.
Starting point is 00:05:38 Some of the funniest people there. What Kate has mastered above all else, man, is like sometimes she's really good at getting people's actual voice inflections, but her cadence and pacing is top notch. I have seen her impersonate virtually everybody. And so she maybe can't hit my register, but she has been able to get all of my mannerisms down to a T. It's kind of terrifying how good at it she is.
Starting point is 00:06:03 Yeah. You got to ask her to do her you at one point. She's got a meet. She's got a you. It's pretty good. It's pretty good. But speaking of getting into it, man, let's go ahead and get into this first story about ding-dong, the witch is indeed dead man. Ike Perlmutter is out.
Starting point is 00:06:23 He is gone from Marvel. I love that somebody went and did the Thanos dusting on him. That's actually kind of hilarious. And it was funny because I didn't realize he was still with Marvel per se. like yeah but i guess you know they are two kind of separate entities the comics and the movies in marvel studios yeah but he's kind of like that that that that i don't want to say troll or ogre that's just always been there and no one no one has anything good to say about this guy no no absolutely and so from comic book movie man uh we're seeing here so marvel entertainment chairman is
Starting point is 00:07:00 marvel entertainment chairman no more the new york times reveals that the 80 year old executive was notified via phone on Wednesday that the division, which primarily focus on consumer products these days, is now redundant and will be folded into Disney's larger business units. You never want to be told you redundant, man. Ironically, this comes as part of the House of Mouse's attempt to cut costs. On Monday, over 7,000 jobs were eliminated in an effort to save as much as 5.5 Billy. Promutter was known for being incredibly frugal, with tales of his suggestion to serve potato chips at a film premiere to save catering costs,
Starting point is 00:07:36 the stuff of legend in Hollywood. He's also alleged to have said, no one would notice when Don Chito replaced Terrence Howard as War Machine and Iron Man 2. We'll have some talks about colorism in a second, and once attempted to fire Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feigey. 2015, Marvel Studios was finally allowed to break free of Marvel Entertainment, giving Feige autonomy over the projects they produced.
Starting point is 00:07:58 It was also meant that they no longer had to bow to the whims of creative committee formed by Pearl Mudder. You may also recall that he was the executive who spearheaded the campaign, such as the one that saw Marvel Comics sideline the X-Men and Fantastic Four in preferability inhuman. Disney has laid off Rob Stephens, co-president of Marvel Entertainment, and John Toretsin, chief counsel of the division. Dan Buckley, president for Marvel Entertainment, will now report solely to Figey. As for the impact for his departure, it will likely be, it will likely be minimal. this part of the company primarily deals with coming with publishing a business that draws between 40 and 60 million a year, a drop in the ocean when Disney's revenue is a massive $83 billion as of 2022.
Starting point is 00:08:43 ProMutter remains a key Disney shareholder and was responsible for the selling of Marvel to the company from $4 billion in 2012. So, Mike, come to you, man. I mean, there's a lot here about pro model that we like hear and how people like you said really hated. So hearing this news that he got he got a phone call, A, we've done. Yeah. Like, what of your first thoughts? I know, like, Figey couldn't stand him and just hearing what they dealt with. But, like, that article clears up, like, where he was in the, in the global, like, it seems like the merchandise.
Starting point is 00:09:16 So that's why I didn't think he had much say. And I remember it was like on 2014, 15, where they kind of, he gets separated from it. But, like, I had heard stories, like, some of the writers talked about, like, back in the day, he took away the coffee machine and the Marvel comic you know, bullpen and he said, you know, employees can pay for their own toilet paper. Just like stupid stuff like stupid bosses, but you're just like, you know, the devil, you know, it was time for him.
Starting point is 00:09:42 Like, it was eventually going to come around. But also it sucks that it came because they're cutting costs. Like, yeah, yeah. All right. So that's your reason to get rid of this guy. It was like this. But then the end of that article is like $83 billion, the company makes and that they're cutting 7,000 people.
Starting point is 00:09:56 So I'm just like, right. I hate Disney's trying to. costs and I'm like, you're the biggest monopoly on the planet and you're cutting this many people. And people like him, get rid of him. He'll be have a golden parachute. He'll be fine for the next, what, 10 years, 15 years he's alive. But you know, younger people that are that. Damn, that was dark. I mean, it's the truth. I know. I just remember with him there was that picture it came out years ago. He was like he was at the White House during the Trump presidency. And it looked like this cabal of evil supervillains. It was just the way.
Starting point is 00:10:30 He was photographed, but he was like in a window and he was like half in shadows and he had this look on his face and it's just like, yes, do it. Yeah, exactly. I mean, you know what's funny you mentioned that though? I hear what you're saying about the cutting costs, but knowing that that's all he ever did. Right. Constantly screw people over. There is something very serendipitous about like cut the coffee machine. Buy your own coffee.
Starting point is 00:10:53 You want two pie toilet paper, buy it yourself. Buy it yourself. I want a job. Get out of here. Go ahead and get out of here. here, man. But the interesting thing is, I agree with you. You hate to see Disney cutting costs like this and by doing so cutting jobs, I know that they're still trying to recover because I don't think people realized how much money they made off of those parks on a daily basis. So it'll be
Starting point is 00:11:18 closed for as many years as they were. Not that Disney won't be fine. They will, but we know that they are trying to write the ship. And with only a handful of the M-C- see you films getting close back to that billy mark and then a lot of them not hitting what they want them to hit if it's not if it's not you know if the train's not rolling in they're gonna make these choices but yeah it's kind of fascinating how with the one you know i guess ant man wasp i mean i don't i can't use the term bomb but i don't think it's going to be make back its money and i think every other film has where it seems maybe it was just the timing of Iger's back, you know, this and that's like, but it just seems like all this stuff is coming out.
Starting point is 00:12:03 It's very reactionary, it seems like. What, what happened? What do we? Wait, wait, wait, these things aren't gold mines anymore? What do we? Oh, we're in trouble here. So yeah, you know, it's really interesting, man, because when you think about it, it feels like there may be overreacting a little bit with these movies not popping right away, but you're used
Starting point is 00:12:20 to being so automatic. And again, in the same way with the parks, automatic money, when your passive income comes, kind of stops, you go into a little bit of a panic mode. And since the ship hasn't, like, you know, it didn't exactly write itself yet. They're not going under, but they do have to like try and, you know, deal with the wound, you know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Yeah. Agreed. So, uh, well, you know, I'm sure pro model will be fine. I'm sure he's close to a billion, if not a billionaire. Yeah. He will do just fine, man. Um, all right. So that's it on pro mother, man.
Starting point is 00:12:57 And now we got to kind of get into a story that broke this past weekend. And we got some more information today as of recording. Jonathan Majors was arrested this past weekend for a domestic violence dispute, an alleged domestic violence dispute. Jonathan Major's criminal defense lawyer, Priya Chandra, has shared new evidence she believes that will stand to her client's innocence. The Ant Man in the Lost Quantumanium Star was taken into police custody on the morning of March 25th. after an alleged assault on a woman believed to be his girlfriend in a New York City apartment.
Starting point is 00:13:32 Shortly after, Chandra released a statement claiming that Majors was completely innocent and probably the victim, promising to present evidence that would clear him of any criminal wrongdoing. The police arrived with the paramedics as is standard procedure and arrested Mr. Majors due to an NYPD protocol requiring arrest in certain circumstances. On that same day, only seven and eight hours later, the woman sent text messages to Mr. Majors admitting that she was, the one who used physical force against him. Now we have seen some of those text messages, which I'll read those right now. So you see him saying,
Starting point is 00:14:11 did you leave the keys? Goodbye, and the name's blanked out. And then the woman writing back, please let me know you're okay when you get this. They assured me that you won't be charged. They said they had to arrest you as protocol when they saw the injuries on me and they knew we had a fight.
Starting point is 00:14:27 I'm so angry that they did, and I'm sorry you're in this position. We'll make sure nothing happens about this. I told them it was my fault for trying to grab your phone. I only just got out of hospital. Just call me when you're out. I love you. And then another text about three hours later saying they just called again to check on me, and I reiterated how this was not an attack,
Starting point is 00:14:48 and they did not have my blessing on any charters being placed. I read the paper they gave me about the strangulation, and I said, point Blake, this did not occur and should be removed immediately. The judge is definitely going to be told this. She insured this to me. I know you have the best team and there's nothing to worry about. I just want you to know that I'm doing all I can on my end. I also said to tell the judge to know that the origin of the call was to do with me collapsing and passing out and your worry as my partner due to our communication prior out of care. She promised all would be relayed. Lastly, in those texts, what we just kind of read,
Starting point is 00:15:25 If this woman decides not to press charges, though, majors will likely walk no matter what actually went down. And people, we will continue to get updates from these news sources. So Mike, man, this was for me really heavy to see this weekend. You know, we haven't really talked about this before, but I know that this is, we were talking about Ezra and everything that they were doing with all their various charges of attacking people and breaking into people and the grooming allegations and all of that. So you hear this about Jonathan Majors, man, and you see these text messages.
Starting point is 00:16:01 What does that really say to you, man? First of all, it's disappointing. Of course, your gut reaction is when you first see the story, like, oh, I mean, I saw it. I was walking out of work and I was like, oh, no. Yeah. Guys are the top of the world right now. And then this comes out.
Starting point is 00:16:18 So then you're like, all right, it seems kind of weird, you know. And then the more, it seems to get ping ponging back and forth the story. The lawyer's like, nope, we have proof. He absolutely didn't do anything. Which is what a lawyer's trained to do. And he's paid to do. He's going to put out that fire as fast as he can. I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:16:38 Again, I'm not a lawyer. I'm not a police officer, you know, but I, you know, talking to some of my good friends that are police officers. Like the three charges were assault, harassment, and strangulation. So now hearing these text messages. So assault, you can see if she's grabbing his phone, he pushes her. That's still assault. Whether he's like, get away from me, that's assault. Harassment is if he's there taking care of her and he won't leave.
Starting point is 00:16:59 That's harassment. Right, right. And I don't know what involves and I don't know how you get bruises on your neck. I don't know. I'm not going to say anything. It just sucks. And, you know, and again, you know, the Ezra Miller thing. And I remember, God, I remember when this first came out with majors and I was thinking back to Roxy and I talk in on DC movie news like four years ago.
Starting point is 00:17:22 with that thing where he was strangling a woman on a phone. Like, but we never knew what happened. Yeah, they were, no charges. The girl didn't come out and say I attacked. It just dropped. And we were like, what happened?
Starting point is 00:17:36 And it never, it never got addressed again. No, I remember when they did that. And the thing that was interesting, because I have, I have so many different thoughts. I had some people trying to come from me being like,
Starting point is 00:17:47 oh, it's nice to see you care more about Jonathan Majors and the victim. I was like, that's not even remotely close to what happened. And I think to clarify that immediately, why my initial response was like, F, damn it, man, no, was because as a black man, to have seen so many of my role models or artists that I really appreciate, enjoy their work to just go sideways. Yeah. So Kanye, losing his ever-loving mind. You know, Will Smith and everything that came down with the slap and then even how, you know, rock, you know,
Starting point is 00:18:22 you know, in his stand-up special and how some people feel about that. I mean, I could go on and on and on with the number of folks that have just really broken my heart in that regard. It does something to your psyche to see yet another person that you were like, man, this dude can act his ass off,
Starting point is 00:18:37 like I'm trying to do what he's doing to even hear this remotely, whether or not it's true, immediately just hits me in a particular way that just hurts. I am obviously very worried about the victim and I hope that she's okay here, but what's interesting is seeing these text messages with this being the bulletproof evidence
Starting point is 00:18:55 if this is what it is I've known folks that have dealt with domestic violence before this feels like a no no no no it's not that big of a deal like no like they shouldn't have done that this this feels like someone trying to kind of calm the storm and and not let things get out of hand and not let him get in trouble I don't know I have no idea we weren't there and that's why I've been right to not pass judgment on it I've just been upset that this is happening, you know? Yeah, I got a text right before we started the show for my girlfriend. She's like, did you see the news that came out more of the text?
Starting point is 00:19:29 And her being a woman, she's like, that's not good. So from her perspective, it just, it seemed more of, oh, I know what this will do to your career. I'll, I'll put the fire out. I'll take the blame for it. You know, maybe we'll never know. And maybe, but, you know, and then there were those stories of people that had come forward in the week like, yeah, people that have worked them on. lesser known things know that this is the kind of person he is.
Starting point is 00:19:55 We haven't said anything because it wasn't going to do anything. But you never know. You never know if that's just people trying to jump in. And there's no, we don't know. We're not involved. And I just saw it as like, because I remember an interview with him. I forgot what show was on. What he was talking to was acting teacher and just the,
Starting point is 00:20:09 just seemed he was a theater kid. So I kind of connected with him on that level of being a theater kid and theater school and drama and just, you know, I, I'm really hoping for the best at this. I hope it's. Absolutely. That's all I can say. I don't, I don't. There's there's nothing else to say about it, man. And I, and I, that is, that is one of those situations where, again, you just have to really, really hope that this didn't play out the way that it did. But I, I truly feel that if, like I said this before, if, if he really did this and all this went down, then he should be met with the exact amount of justice that that meets this.
Starting point is 00:20:47 He should lose his job. He should, like, see whatever. or fines or whatever is appropriate for these types of charges. And I feel that way across the board. It doesn't matter black, white, whatever. If you've done something like this and you've hurt somebody, then you need to pay the consequences for it. I'm 100% of that.
Starting point is 00:21:06 I think that's the point. And I know everyone's with the Ezra stuff and they're, you know, again, it is black man and a white man. And I don't remember and I don't know of any charges brought against Ezra. Like no, even the whole grooming and he's on a ranch with guns and there's babies around him. That's crazy and that's messed up and you're weird and that needs help.
Starting point is 00:21:25 But was it illegal? I know the woman, woman's like my daughter's with him and he's grooming her, but I just like, I know, my bad, I know that I know that Ezra goes by they. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Yeah. So there's no, there's no charges. So the police could want to do something, but if there's not anything they can charge versus there are charges, and those charges could be dropped against majors. Right. You know,
Starting point is 00:21:48 and you got to look at, you've got to look at the, the facts of what is at the court of law, what was charged and who's not charged. Right. So no, absolutely, man. All I know is hearing all of all these folks really, you know,
Starting point is 00:22:03 dealing with these situations where they're, they're really not in their right mind and they're not doing the right stuff. And just knowing that on the flip side of things, hearing things like this. So anybody that's ever dealt with any sort of, you know, domestic violence or anything like that in life, a lot of that can be. be really trying.
Starting point is 00:22:22 And this is going to be weird to kind of tie to a sponsor, but it is important. And I think it is super important to check on your mentals. And that's why a proud sponsor of capes and cows is Better Help. Better Help is a situation that connects you with licensed therapists who can take you on a journey of self-discovery from wherever you are. I know that for myself this past year, 2022, I was dealing with a lot. I lost a number of family members, a major show I was a part of ended. There was a lot of just personal stuff going on that was really causing turmoil in my life.
Starting point is 00:23:01 And therapy is all about deepening your self-awareness and understanding because sometimes we don't know what we want or why we react the way that we do until we talk things through. I have personally benefited from therapy, not only from a standpoint of like really kind getting at the things that I've gone through and understanding my trauma, but being able to have somebody, have a professional kind of guide me through to the other side, to be able to be a stronger person and to really kind of get grips on that. And I know we've talked about mental health on this show or any number of shows associated with capes and cows in the big thing over time, man. Now, if you're thinking about starting therapy, you've got to give better help, but try. It's
Starting point is 00:23:44 entirely online, designed to be convenient, flexible, and suited to your schedule. And you can fill out the brief questionnaire that gets matched, and then they'll get you with the licensed therapist, and you can switch with any therapist for your charge at any point in time. The whole point of it is to make sure that you are getting your mental's right and that you are doing well. So be sure to discover your potential with BetterHelp. Visit better help.com slash big thing today to get 10% off of your first month. That's better help help.com slash big thing to get your mental right, y'all. Definitely look into that. Mike, I don't know if you're if you're a therapy guy, man, but it is been absolutely just
Starting point is 00:24:31 paramount to me like getting my life back on track personally. I'm a guy that thinks I can do it all myself. And I have had many a conversation with my lady, you know, that it's definitely something that I need to do. Like as a kid I did, but that was, I think more my parents were like, they had no idea what, why I wanted to be an actor and what I was doing. And they just thought I was depressed. Right, right. But as I'm older now, man, it's a. It's funny what parents, it's funny what parents think about that.
Starting point is 00:25:06 Like, I'm curious. When was the first time you told your parents you were going to act? I'll never. Well, but they didn't. take it seriously, but I remember I saw Indiana Jones in the Temple of Doom, and that was the movie that made me want to be an actor. But I remember, I tell the story all the time that my parents in high school, I was doing drama and all that, and they got the guidance counselor to pull me out of class and talked to me about what I really wanted to do. And it sat him down. And I blew smoke
Starting point is 00:25:27 up his ass. I was like, you know, your parents are concerned about you. I was like, well, I really like archaeology. I think about being an archaeologist. Yeah, I meant Indiana Jones, but he's like, oh, that's interesting. Yeah, that's a science field. And there's schools for that. I'm like, yeah, yeah. So, but now they're like, oh, Mike, we're so proud of me. What time was your show on? What time we want to show the name, the tape? Is it 8.30?
Starting point is 00:25:48 We're going to tell the neighbors. Yeah. So now they're all about it. But it's funny how that. They're parents. They want, you know, they don't know. They're concerned. They just want you, they want to be able to pay your bills and all.
Starting point is 00:25:57 I get it because I, I feel bad because my mom thought that I was going to be a doctor. And that's just like, like, like, like, like, like genuinely. Because I was really good. math and science and stuff like that and I went to like this pre-med camp in high school and whatnot. And I picked a school that had a good pre-med program, but I've made sure that it had a very strong theater program because I had been acting since I was a kid, but my parents also did not take it seriously. The only thing of any major import that I worked for Radio Disney for like 10 years.
Starting point is 00:26:37 And then I auditioned for the Barney. movie, but I thought I was too cool for it. So they were like, can you sing Barney's favorite song? I was like, I hate you, you hate me. And they're like, thank you. Go ahead and see yourself out. So they didn't think I was serious about it. And then once I kind of announced it to them,
Starting point is 00:26:56 they're like, all right, better hustle. Go for it. Absolutely. Speaking of hustling, man. And keeping on the grind, I'm sure everybody heard about Victoria Alonzo being fired. We talked about that last. week. Well, a new report has come out that Victoria Alonso reportedly clashed with Marvel over
Starting point is 00:27:35 blurring Ant-Man 3's gay pride references. According to comic book movie, we recently got word that the longtime Marvel Studios president of physical post-production VFX and animation, Victoria Alonzo had been fired from a position after 17 years with a company and more details on the situation continue to emerge. Last week, the Hollywood reporter reported that Disney's ultimately released Alonzo for breach of contract due to her work on Oscar nominated to feature Argentina in 1985. However, Alonzo's attorney, Patty Glazer, refuted this explanation with the following statement. Victoria is a gay Latina who had the courage to criticize Disney,
Starting point is 00:28:12 who had the courage to criticize Disney, was silenced. Try that again. However, Alonzo's attorney, Patty Glazer refuted this explanation with the following statement. Victoria, a gay Latina who had the courage to criticize Disney, was silenced. Then she was terminated when she refused to do something she believed was reprehensible. Now the trade claims to have uncovered what this reprehensible request was. It seems that Marvel executives wanted an editor to blur a storefront window in quantumania that featured rainbow decorations in the word pride for the cut of the threquel that was being released in Kuwait,
Starting point is 00:28:48 where restrictive anti-LGBQ laws are in place. Alonzo reportedly refused to make the... edit as part of her duties overseeing visual effects and post-production, forcing Marvel to go to an outside vendor. THR doesn't suggest that this clash directly led to Alonzo's dismissal, but her attorney's statement would seem to indicate that
Starting point is 00:29:05 she is under firm belief that it did. So Mike, I'm sure you remember when the don't say gay bill was going on. Oh, yeah. Florida is my, I grew up. I grew up. 26. Oh, I didn't realize that. I know you went to school there. I didn't know you grew up there. Went to school, Florida, grew up there, worked there, like,
Starting point is 00:29:23 My family's still there. Yeah, Florida is a huge part of my life that I try and disassociate with now. Fair. Fair. Never will I ever move back there to see what that state has become? Just like, and I work for Disney for 10 years. Work for Disney for 10 years. I understand the company and, you know, what they're going through right now.
Starting point is 00:29:43 Yeah. Well, when that started coming out, she was very vocal that it wasn't enough. Yeah. A response. And it wasn't. Who was, who was before? Or, thank you.
Starting point is 00:29:55 Chapic didn't give enough of a response. No, your entire, about it. Like, Disney's the lifeblood of, not just Orlando, it's of Florida.
Starting point is 00:30:03 And a majority of your workforce is, is gay, trans. It's massive there. And it's, it's a place that's accepted. It's a culture that's accepted. The amount of people above,
Starting point is 00:30:17 I was just an actor there, but then people of management and upper manager, senior management that are of the community. It's massive. and your company wouldn't just go, oh, absolutely not. Right. Like right out the gate should have been like, nope, get out of here.
Starting point is 00:30:30 You're ridiculous. Well, and to that point, then hearing this story, I could see where Victoria might get equally just as angry to have had that happen and then to turn around and be told to edit out the small thing in the movie that really had very little, like, I didn't even remember that being a part of the film. Would you even seen it? Probably not. No.
Starting point is 00:30:49 It's like we wouldn't have. But that, that to me is what's silly. about the request. Who saw that? Who said, yeah, that's gonna, we're gonna take that out. You know what I mean? Like, it's, it's so small.
Starting point is 00:31:03 And it's so a part of life at this point where that is, that is in storefronts. You know what I mean? That's very normal that like I, it didn't, it looked like regular set decoration. I had no idea it was even in the movie. Like, I'm at the point, like, it's so frustrated to me because, again,
Starting point is 00:31:21 I grew up theater. so it's always been a part of my life. My parents are very Republican. They're Florida Republicans, but there was never any like that in my household I grew up. So when I hear it and I hear it like, okay, look at a company like Disney and, you know, the whole kiss thing in Lightyear that was caused controversy.
Starting point is 00:31:40 And this has caused controversy. It's like they're a massive company and someone up there and the heads are like, well, we want to show our movie in Kuwait. So we got to take that out because it comes down to the dollar. You know, I would say if it was my company, it's like, oh, this country doesn't like our movie because there's a gay couple kiss. And well, guess what? You ain't getting our movie. But that's a money thing.
Starting point is 00:32:02 And then you've got people involved and it's the money thing. And that's where there is part of this country and all parts of the world that that is not okay with that. No, absolutely. And I mean, obviously, I'm on the same page where I'm like, personally, I'd be like, then you just can't have it. You either take it as it is or you can't have it. But I understand why the businessmen have maybe made that decision. I don't, or business men and women. I don't, I don't, again, don't personally agree with it, but I see why they may have pushed it.
Starting point is 00:32:29 But I also do not blame Victoria for putting her foot down and being like, I'm not going to do that. We already, you already pissed me off about something else. I'm not going to do it. And it makes me wonder, again, they said that this isn't a dead, like a bulletproof, like this is what happened. But it does make me wonder if the real breach of contract was we gave you an order and you wouldn't do it. Yeah, it seemed like they were stretching with something to fire. her with. And again, whether your thoughts on phase four or what were greater, you didn't like it, the effects were suffering in phase of of late. They were. So there was a lot that, but it seems like
Starting point is 00:33:05 this was like, well, oh, she did this movie. That's what she did wrong. We're going to fire her for that. And we're going to want it's clean, not standing up for gay rights and stuff. So it's like, I didn't something wrong there. Mike, you're spot on. Like, sometimes you'd be in a relationship and you're trying, like you said, you're trying to find a reason to get out. Yeah. So it's like, it's something as simple as like, oh, man, how do I? Oh, you hit snooze. This is over.
Starting point is 00:33:29 You don't respect my sleep. You know I work. You know I work. You do it. Snoo, that's it. We're done. How did get out? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:37 It seems like they'd wanted, you know, they were not seeing eye to eye, but they just could not fire for whatever reasons or whatever. But then it was like, oh, that's, up, that's, that's, that's, that's, she breached it. I mean, this is another one of those stories similar to with the majors one. We just need more information. And I think as it continues to roll out, we'll get, we'll get a better idea of what it really went down. But it's going to go on for a while because I would not be surprised if there's going to be a suit or a settlement that's going to have to come out of this, this firing potentially from Victoria. Especially if they feel that Victoria was wrongfully terminated.
Starting point is 00:34:11 That's right. That's, woof. But why don't we get into, we've talked a lot about the people behind. all these movies and whatnot. Why don't we actually get into some of this movie news? I'm sorry that we had to do all the heavy stuff up top, y'all. We'll give it out the way. Get out of the way.
Starting point is 00:34:26 And now that you've had your vegetables, we can get straight into dessert, man. The Batman sequel, supposedly, supposedly, we may be getting Clayface and Matt Reeves' upcoming sequel to The Batman. Again, comic book movie, love the articles that they get us out of here, but they pulled some stuff from deadline. that Clayface is a big addition to the Batman Part 2, although the trade does not note that nothing is set in stone just yet as the script is constantly changing.
Starting point is 00:34:59 Now, Clayface is one that we were least expected to see in the Matt Reed's bat verse, but it does seem that there is a very good chance that it will appear. The haunting of Hillhouse and Dr. Sleep Director, Mike Flanagan, has also pitched Warner Bros. Studios head James Gunn and Peter Saffron on a solo Clayface feature, but the character wouldn't be depicted as a villain. Now, nothing is officially greenlight,
Starting point is 00:35:22 but the studio has not said no. Blanagan has been vocal about wanting to be involved in a Clayface project in the past, describing his hypothetical take as a standalone horror thriller tragedy. We have no idea how a character like Clayface would factor into Reeves' relatively grounded interpretation of the Dark Knight's world,
Starting point is 00:35:38 but we assume his shape-shifting abilities would be dropped and Basil Carlo, if that's who they indeed go with, would be significantly reimagined. What do you make of this news? I am curious, Mike. First of all, where does Clayface rank for you as far as the Rokes Gallery of Batman?
Starting point is 00:36:00 Well, I was going to try and find on Twitter. Someone asked me last year, like, who I want, knowing what Reeves is doing, he's going for two, what I want. And I said, you know what? I know this is more, and I hate to say grounded because the Nolan films were grounded to me. His is a step above that. It's not quite burden, but it's not Nolan.
Starting point is 00:36:18 And I said, I was like, I want Man Bat and Clayface. I want the two of them, and I think they could work. I think, but then I got into the article, and it was, because Matt Reeves is going on Batman too already. They're moving. I think production starts in November. So to know that it's coming out right now, like I don't know about that,
Starting point is 00:36:33 but it seemed like he went in pitch this story of Clayface, the Saffron and gun. And then it's like, well, I think some articles are like, you know, Clayface confirmed for Batman 2, which is absolutely not true. You know, I hope they go with the shape-changing version like Matt Hagan. Basil Carlo is more of the actor and is a serial killer. That would fit in Rees version. So I think maybe people are seeing the two different versions, but definitely the
Starting point is 00:36:58 clay face, the big shape-shifting one, that's the one that from the animated series that people are more familiar with. Right. And they kind of blended the actor version of the first version with the second guy. So I think I think it's a phenomenal idea I would love to see it in the Batman I'm curious about a standalone film
Starting point is 00:37:20 I get like everything he says It's a horror film It's this that's like you know There's a series out right now I think it's they're called one one bad day I think it's called they're all the villains of Batman And they each get a And the Clayface story was fantastic
Starting point is 00:37:32 Yeah So it's disgusting and fantastic and really cool So I think I'm not a fan Of the whole standalone villain films Like Joker And I thought it was great. But it's Batman and it's his rogues gallery, especially if you're going Brave and the Bold and a little more fantastical.
Starting point is 00:37:48 I think it might fit better in that. I would agree with that. We're at that stage of this new Batman world. We know Reeves is his own thing. So who knows, who knows what they pitched and what they, maybe he pitched something and they liked it and they said, hey, maybe you need to talk to Matt because he's thinking about Clayface and these kind of sink up.
Starting point is 00:38:08 No, absolutely. And I agree that there's, there wasn't that fantastical element in the Batman. We didn't get any sort of inkling of anybody that wasn't just a, I mean, not that the Ridler and Joker and Penguin, like not that they aren't really kind of beyond a street level thing, because all of them are so psychotic and so entrenched in their crime, they could be a world issue.
Starting point is 00:38:31 But they tend to stay pretty street level more or less. There is a level of not having the fantastical element of Batman, And so having Solomon Grundy, having Clayface, having Freeze, having Poison Ivy, that I think is equally just as important. Like, obviously you want the detective side of things and all that, but there is something about Batman going up against a supernatural threat and being able to pull it out that is equally as interesting as him stopping a mob. You know what I mean? Yeah. It's an element that we're missing of Batman. Now, I agree, maybe you push that more to Brave and the Bold.
Starting point is 00:39:08 since you're talking, that's more DCU-centric and then the Batman and what Matt Reeves is doing is considered else worlds at this point. Yeah, if I'm a betting man, I don't think it has to, I don't think it's involved in Reeves.
Starting point is 00:39:24 It seems like they're, they seem so far along in their film and their pre-production, the script writing that to hear like, oh, this new edition was just added or this guy was talking. I was like, I don't know about that.
Starting point is 00:39:36 I think this is a, Brave and the Bold Chapter 1 Gun, Safran, DCU thing, which is great. I am so sick of dude, and I'm curious to who the Batman villain's going to be, Batman 2, because I don't want to see Two-Face again.
Starting point is 00:39:51 I don't want to see, you know, what we've seen so far. We've seen these guys. His rogue gallery is so vast and we've not, I mean, put Professor Pig in there. That would fit. That would be great. I was, I mean, I think that Dano did great with Ridler,
Starting point is 00:40:07 but I was really upset that we didn't go a hush route. I was really hoping we were going to go full on hush. I know we touched on it a little bit, but we didn't really get into it. I would have much preferred if you really want to go for it and there's still some sort of supernatural element here, I would have said go for the court of owls, honestly. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:25 Like the fact that a lot of the, you know, the talons, a lot of them are reanimated if you have some sort of like, they've come up with tech that they can, you know. Yeah, the Batman did such a good job. of creating their Gotham. Yeah. Really making a difference. The Cornevalles would fit really well into what Reeves did.
Starting point is 00:40:44 Perfect. Very well with the whole history and the legacy of the Wains and. Oh, my God. The Elliott's and all that. So, yeah, that would fit beautifully in there. That was the other element that they kind of already put at the beginning. But, and so I understand the idea of maybe even retconning it yet again would be kind of weird. But what if it's just the idea of like, hey, Riddler was an extension of us actually.
Starting point is 00:41:04 Yeah. And I was thinking, I just thought of this because Reeves. had said one of his inspirations was the earth one series of three graphing novels and the last villain was clay face yeah so he was there and he he had he was just more of a mimic where he could imitate someone but his face did the whole melty thing and so maybe maybe i mean he was his riddler is definitely inspired by that series oh yeah so maybe he is thinking that so i'd be here for it i could be wrong i would be here for it i i and i i agree with you i'm more from familiar with with uh with uh carlo just from from batman the animated series and i always thought to
Starting point is 00:41:43 me it was very interesting i didn't realize how i felt about character development that young but like it was really sad to watch all his story was great trying to live his life and to hold on to his career and have this to him turn into a complete monster i think that would be a really fun uh horror film if if flanagan does end up getting very much so very much so um very much so um Well, another big DC story. I know Koi covered this a little bit when he did the big thing earlier this week, was Jason Mamoa speaking on Aquaman, absolutely being involved in the DCU. We're not going to go into the full comment of it,
Starting point is 00:42:25 but there is one line that I definitely want to hear Mike's thoughts on this, because it gave me a little pause. So while Mamoa was doing press, you know, press, for Fast 10 and all that kind of stuff. He did speak on Aquaman and he said, Peter Safran's, my producer on Aquaman, The Lost Kingdom and is a dear friend.
Starting point is 00:42:46 I absolutely think Aquaman will be involved in the DCU. It's on, bro. There's no one bigger than Aquaman. But also, I hope people are excited to see the new one. It's fun. I really enjoy doing comedy. There's some really funny stuff with Patrick Wilson.
Starting point is 00:43:00 I really adore him. We had a great time working together. It's like we're brothers. There's a lot of cool stuff happening in this one. Okay. I don't really need to talk about Lobo. I don't need to talk about the rest of Aquaman or Fast Hand or any of that. I do need to talk about the line.
Starting point is 00:43:14 I really enjoy doing comedy. There's some really funny stuff with Patrick Wilson. I'm not anti-stuff-having comedy. Obviously, the Guardians was hysterical and was still a very well-thought-out, drawn-out, like character development films, same with Spider-Man films. There's been plenty of comedy in superhero films. But there has been a trend of late. What do you think of, like, Thor, Love, and Thunder?
Starting point is 00:43:38 and stuff like that, that this idea of over pushing comedy and like hand and fist, like slap sticky type stuff. I hear, I really enjoy doing comedy and there's some really funny stuff with Patrick Wilson, who is not, it's not that he's not funny,
Starting point is 00:43:56 but that's not the first thing I think of what I think of Patrick Wilson. Mike, what do you feel when you hear that? I try, I'm trying to keep it in the context because from what I understand of the Lost Kingdom, it's a buddy cop movie they're saying it's like it's like a lethal weapon they've been saying like the two of them have to go on a journey together and if the comedy arrives out of those situations but yeah his first his character in his first movie not a funny guy at all you know and nor is his aquaman a funny guy so is the comedy you know a midnight run charles groden denierro kind of where it's not slapstick it's not love and thunder comedy the comedy's coming from the situations that they find themselves in with these two very serious characters have to deal deal with. You know, that would be interesting to me.
Starting point is 00:44:41 I'm curious because his quote is there's Aquaman in the DCU. Yeah. He never says, I'm, my Aquaman is the Aquaman. Right. That's what he's, he never said. He's just, Aquaman is going to be a big part of it. I can't seem not being a part of the DCU, which is, yeah, Aquaman needs to be in there, but he's not saying it's him.
Starting point is 00:44:59 So that's interesting. I really think the Lobo thing is happening. I think that, I think that is. I think they're going to, yeah. I think that. is the worst kept secret maybe out of DC right now. And knowing Gunn and his affinity for characters like Lobo, like those outside quirky oddballs, like.
Starting point is 00:45:19 Yeah. You know, it's funny because I went back and forth about whether or not Batista even wanted to do another superhero anything, because he did make the comment about Drax. Like, look, dude, I'm pushing 60. I'm not trying to keep jacked like this. Is he really? Yeah, he's getting up there.
Starting point is 00:45:34 He said by the time, I think he said by the time, this movie drops, he would be 60. Let me double check, Dave, Batista. Hmm. You're going to make me really good to his out. He's 54. So not, he's not quite there yet, but the idea if they were going to,
Starting point is 00:45:53 if for some reason they were to shoot another guardians. Yeah. That he would be, that by the time all that drops, he'd be pretty old. So all that being said, I kind of thought that Batista would also have played a great lobo, but I do think there is a certain palpable energy, energy from Moa that, like, really, it's kind of, plus he's already got the hair and everything. Like, he just, just, he'd be perfect at it. The main man. It's sick of your stuff, blue boy. Oh, cannot wait for that, man, at all. All right. Our next partner for the show is Athletic Greens.
Starting point is 00:46:32 Now, Christian, Koi, myself have all been talking about this. I'm sure Mike has been talking about it at some point as well. This crew takes AG1 by Athletic Greens every single day. Now, I was the first one to say when Christian gave it to me, I put it in warm water and I was like, ooh, I don't know if I like this. And then Christian was like, try it again with cold water. I said, ooh, this is incredible. Like, not only from the energy that I got.
Starting point is 00:46:59 And honestly, like, I will take this now. instead of pre-workout, just because of how it makes me feel. But it's great for the immune system. You don't need to worry about taking a whole bunch of different vitamins because you have it all there in one, man. It is absolutely incredible. Now, it's really hard for a lot of people to keep up that supplement routine. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:47:22 To keep that going. But with athletic greens, with AG1, it's all in there. And one, get ready to go, just throw it in your water bottle, chug it down. you're good. Starting point is 00:48:34 Yes, I have to. I got that young lady here. I got to keep up. I feel you. Because what, you're, you just turned 40, right? Yeah, okay. Well, I'm serious.
Starting point is 00:48:48 Are you, are you not? No, sir. No, sir. Bro. I'm a little older than that. Well, that athletic greens is doing it right by you, son. I generally thought you were like 40, 41, my man. No, sir.
Starting point is 00:48:59 I'll keep it She'll pop up on this video She's like hey he's this old Yeah no I mean look Those are the type of ladies you need in your life though man I know I keep you on your peas and cues So let's jump into it Our last story man let's talk about Captain America New World Order
Starting point is 00:49:21 Yep We have gotten some stills From the new movie that's coming out soon The Tyler will be returning as Betty Ross. We last saw her in The Incredible Hulk, and she is set to reprise her role in this film. She was spotted filming a scene in a cemetery along with co-stars Anthony Mackey, who had his arm in a sling. Tyler was spotted filming a scene in a cemetery along with co-stars Anthony Mackey, who had his arm in a sling, Sasha Rockmore.
Starting point is 00:49:49 I'm so sorry if I mispronounced that. And Shira Haas, some of these characters are in their dress blues, which is obviously to indicate a military funeral. Now, Betty's presence could suggest that this is a service to her father, General Thunderbolt Ross, but since Harrison Ford is expected a return in the Thunderbolt's movie, that seems unlikely, unless he's dead to be resurrected as a Red Hulk. We don't know. But speaking of the Red Hulk himself, other photos have come out from New World Order, including the return of Tim Blake Nelson and then Harrison Ford, again, the legendary Indiana Jones,
Starting point is 00:50:22 who's taking over as General Thaddeus Thunderbolt Ross. And of course, you had Tim Blake Nelson who was playing Dr. Samuel Stearns, who is going to be becoming the leader. Now, in those photos, we saw Ford's Take on Ross, which ditched the signature mustache. But if you also look closely at the photos of Nelson, you can see his right arm is green. Now, this might suggest that Stearns either hasn't fully transformed into the leader yet, or he's able to go back and forth as far as like a full transformation. So both of those photos, we sell those as well. The rest of the main cast includes, as we mentioned before,
Starting point is 00:50:59 Shira Haas, who's playing the Israeli superheroin Sabra. We have, my man, my best friend, Daddy Carl Lumley. He's returning as Isaiah Bradley. I am so excited to hear that. And we have Danny Ramirez coming in as the new Falcon. We saw him in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. So Anthony Mackey will take flight as the new Sentinel of Liberty in theaters, May 3, 2024. All right, man.
Starting point is 00:51:24 You see these photos, Mike? You hear the return of three staples from the Incredible Hulk, which how did you feel about that film, by the way? I don't think I've ever gotten your take on it. I, you know, it's surprising. I actually really enjoy The Incredible Hulk that movie. I really do. I don't think it deserves nearly the hate that it gets.
Starting point is 00:51:46 You know, I enjoy the hell out of that movie. I really do, too, man. And I, you know, obviously, super sad. my goodness, that we lost William Hurt and that we can't see him, you know, Don, you know, turn into the Red Hulk himself. But I am so grateful that we have someone like Harrison Ford that's willing to step up and they take on the mantle, man.
Starting point is 00:52:10 And it'll be, I'm sure Tim Blake Nelson is excited. I'm sure he thought like after all that teasing and then nothing for over a decade, that I'm sure he's excited that he gets to come back into this. So what element of New World Order are you most interested? it. You know, I just love the cat movies. That's my favorite probably trilogy of the MCU.
Starting point is 00:52:33 So it's exciting to see, you know. I hope we, I mean, again, it's not his film anymore. But I would love to get some kind of idea of what's going on with Steve Rogers in this world. I agree. Because we still don't, there's not a definitive answer of what's going on with him or where he is. But I'm curious to say, I love to see the fact that, you know, Anthony Mackey's going to get out from being Falcon and Winter Soldier, which, you know, this will be his headlining gig.
Starting point is 00:52:59 You know, it's always been him playing, you know, whether it's Caps, sidekick or then bucking him together on that duo. It's him, you know, in the spotlight on his own. So I'm excited to see that because his comic that's out right now, there's kind of two of them, symbol of truth and central of liberty, which one's Steve and one's him. And his book is, I enjoy more than I like Steve's book right now. So I'm excited to see him kind of take flight for a better word on his own.
Starting point is 00:53:25 Absolutely. And I love the idea that, you know, for now we don't need to do that. I could see maybe at the end or maybe a small cameo, like you said, we get old man Rogers and we can kind of catch up with him. Not even, he doesn't even be in the film? Just let us know what's going on with him. Absolutely. But, you know, at one point, if correct me from wrong, doesn't he start working with Shield kind of as like almost in a Nick Fury capacity where he's helping in the older man kind of? Yeah. I would love, I would love that if, if. if, you know, at some point, if that's something that Chris Evans wants to do, like, keep him out of the action. I would have just love to see it. I know it's, maybe it will happen, like to see him, because, you know, Ross is the president then to see, you know, Rogers being kind of this advisor, but in the government, where he's kind of the go between the president and, and, and, uh, cap.
Starting point is 00:54:15 I think that would be lead to some great tension and some great stuff. Absolutely. I think that that would be, especially if there's a feeling that after, after the whole situation with the U.S. agent and feeling kind of, you know, Cap wasn't around for that, obviously. Yeah. If now Cap comes back and he's still trying to figure out what's going on and all that stuff, if it feels like Steve is kind of betraying him almost where he's just like, no, maybe chill, Sam.
Starting point is 00:54:42 Like you're, it's like, you gave me the shield. Either I'm Cap or I'm not Cap right, right, right. I think that that could be really, really interesting to see what happens. Very much so. But all that being said, we want to know what you think about any and all of these stories, And where do you fall on the firings, the firings, the potential new villains and faces in these movies? Be sure to leave it down in the comments. Before we do the plugging for the rest of the show, Mike, what's going on with you, man?
Starting point is 00:55:07 Where can people find you and what's going on? All social media. That's what it has been. I've been a little quiet. I guess people have been, oh, we talked in the stream the other day. People are like, oh, you're really ruffling feathers. Like, I am. I feel like I've been taking it back.
Starting point is 00:55:19 Work's been busy. Work's been busy. So I've been just chilling out. But at Mike Kalanowski, I'm on all social. That's where I'm at. Absolutely.
