I think that a lot of you may know now if you watch the Tuesday show. I made my announcement of who my guest was, or you've clearly seen the thumbnail and clicked on it. But I was telling you for a bet that I was going to be speaking again to Penny Barber.

So I found out about Penny through Mike Kalinowski, as you know. And so when she was on the show, she really not only won over the audience. She really not over. No, it wasn't very hard to win over Mike. But she went over like myself and Roxy because she was just, she was. was just like really fun to talk about and she knows a lot about movies. So I figured let's dive into it. Let's talk to it. And then my then ed, long time fan Ed says, hey, she's going to be in New York. I said, when? And he said, July, it matched up. And here we are. How are you? I'm in New York. It's

awesome. Yeah. Have you? So I'm assuming you've been quite often, been enough. I've been when I was a kid, we used to come to New York. Oh yeah. And then I came once for a shoot like years ago and that's it. So you haven't been. Oh wow. So you haven't been back in us. So this is the first time in quite a while? Yeah, in like years, yeah. Oh, shit, okay, cool. I hate flying. Oh, you do?

I do. How come? Do you like flying? Do you like being searched to put in that dry air? Well, no, that's true. Yeah, I get off on it. I love to go to the airport and get searched. No, no, I actually don't love the process at all about going there, but I don't mind flying itself.

Like, some people, I think. Well, they freak out, yeah. They freak out. So, like, but no, I don't like look forward to it. But do you have, like, a fear of flying? I'm not like afraid of it. I just like it takes forever. Like it took me like like 12 hours to get here.

There was nothing direct. 12 hours? Yeah, I think. How are you coming from France? No. No, just from Oakland. But you know, like there was like a stop and a layover. You know, it was just, it was like a whole thing.

There was a direct flight. So it's not my idea of a good time. No. No, that's not the transfer. I did watch like two and a half movies. Okay. Would you watch? I watched obsession because you asked me to.

And I watched, um, the second baby assassins, which I think is my favorite. And then I was watching the third one. And then I turned it off to watch Obsession. And I also watched a little bit of Lady Snowblood and get all the way into it. So I didn't know any of those ones opposite obsession until you wrote and told me about those. And I looked into it.

And Baby Assassins looks pretty cool. So what is that? It's this, I guess it's like a thing because there's three of them. And I think there's a TV show as well. Yes. I saw that. It was like a spin-off show after the third one. It's like a whole thing.

But it's just just like. two kind of like slacker girl assassins and it's just you know what I really like about it is they have a lot of different style fights okay and so some of them were like more like a jacky chan kind of a fight and some of them look like like real fucking fights to me you know because like you know i i had an uh an active youth and i'm like oh shit that looks like a real fight you know did you get into scraps when you're right i mean you know a couple times now see we'll go back to that i want that's interesting to me already like so because i was even talking about some of them you know i grew up in queens So I'm used to that type of stuff too as well.

Oh, okay. But, you know, what is it? Is it a bullying thing? No. No. Sometimes I kind of, I'll tell you about a time, I kind of deserved it. Okay. So like, you have to keep in mind that I had like really short hair and like, I was very flat back then.

So I look kind of like, I've never fought a girl. I look kind of like a boy. You were fighting dudes? I was fighting dudes. Yeah. But I really wanted to go to this show because this girl that I like was going, but I was really sick. Like, I hadn't been to school that day. It sounds like I was malingering, but I was actually sick.

Okay. But I really wanted to go to this show. So I went anyway, and we're there. Everything's fine. And all of a sudden just, mm-hmm, pooh. And I puked all over this redneck truck. Oh, shit.

Just in the park, just like, bleh. But not in the purpose, just because you got sick. And that was the first thing in there. I swear to God, I just, it just happened. And how old are you at that point? Old enough. Okay. Fair enough.

Fair enough. And yeah, and the dude just like, you know, it was like, what the fuck? You know, came and got me and everything. And, uh, so he did. I didn't know he was hitting a sick girl. In all fairness, he probably thought he was hitting a drunk dude. But still, yeah. I mean, I did okay.

Like, don't give me wrong, he won. But you were throwing bombs? Yeah, yeah. Did you say last time when we talked, were you, have you trained in like M. M.M.A. and stuff? Or, I've done like a little, I mean, you know, because yeah, I used to wrestle. Yeah, yeah, that's what I was. Yeah, yeah.

I would wrestle, but, you know, like, I wouldn't say like, I'm like a trained. No, but you're, but you're active though. You like, you go as far as working out and stuff too, and you see physical. Yeah, I'd say like I could probably beat up the average other 40-year-old woman on the street. Not much of a brag. Okay. So you like, so you respond to those types of movies. You respond to that.

I love action. You like action movies. One of my favorite genres. Okay. So we'll get back into Baby Assassins. I want to learn more about it. But I had mentioned before we started shooting a movie that I saw, it was really cool that I think you like. It's called The Furious.

Okay. Yeah. It's like, yeah, it's like this, it just came out. recently you can probably watch on the plane on the way back okay you should and it's like it's it's another martial arts film but it's like so this guy he's with his daughter i won't give you too much about it but his daughter it's essentially like taken meets john wick meets like so many different um like the game there's a lot of different shit going on in this okay and the fight scenes and how over the topic gets and i read the synopsis for baby assassins if you're jiving with that

you're gonna dig this for sure i mean part of the reason i like action movies is I like the stunts, you know? Yeah. Yeah. This is that this is for you. Right. Yeah. I like the stunts. I like to see that they can actually like fight and stuff. Yeah. What's your favorite fight scene in a movie? What's your favorite fight scene? My favorite fight scene in a movie? You know, it's funny. The first thing that comes to mind, and I don't necessarily know if this is true, that is my favorite, but it's the first thing comes in mind. It's probably in Kill Bell. There's some really good shit going on in Gilbell. You've seen Kill Bell? You've seen Kill Bill? I don't know. So you made it like last time. I don't like the mainstream stuff. Well, yeah, I know, but I did like that one.

It's a great one. No, that's a great choice. It's a great choice. Emma, about you? You know what? It's a bad movie, but it's one of my favorite fight scenes is, I can't remember the other guy's name, but Donnie Yen and Kill Zone. There's this scene where he's like, he's all in black, the other guys all in white, and they're fighting each other. And what I like about this scene is like, you know, usually when you shoot a fight scene, they have the guys do it, and then you speed it up.

Yes. You know, this one, they had to slow it down. Oh, that's cool. Also, they just, they're both masters, they're just like, go. Yeah. And like they were breaking batons all over each other and just like just having a really good intense time. So I like watching that fight scene because first of all, it's a really cool fight. Second of all, like they're using weapons.

I actually like one of my favorite things about baby assassins is that they're using guns. So they're still fighting. It's like gun-foo. Well, it's not quite gun. But it's-ish. Ish. Yeah, exactly. Like they're still fighting and there's still guns.

So it still feels like really high stakes. But it doesn't feel like, you know, like in Kill Bell, how there's guys standing around kind of with the swords. It's not a lot of that either in baby-establishing. It's just straight up. Let's just scrap with what we have. You got to watch it. Second one is my favorite. Okay.

Second one's my favorite. So, so much fun. Yeah. Do you, speaking of Gunford, so do you like the John Wick movies as well? That's because that's a little bit more mainstream as well. I've read the script for the first one, but I've never seen any of them.

Really? So I've only read the script. What was it called? Scorn or something? I'm not sure. I don't remember. But I've read it, but I haven't seen it. That's great.

No, they get progressively more like silly. Video Game-ish. Oh, video gaming. Yes, they go on. That's not necessarily bad, though. No, it's not. It's not.

I like all four of them. But the first one is more like gritty, like raw, like independent film. And John Wick can get hurt. By the fourth one, he's like a superhero. But which is still like cool. But then it's long. It's like two hours and 40 minutes of third one. The first one's like two hours long, if that.

So those are really cool. And I like those. Oh, old boy is the other one, which is, yes, that's what the Furious is kind of similar to. Yeah. So I feel like you'd like that. But yeah, I was reading about the baby's ass and stuff. I'm like, okay, I like. that that's your type of genre, but I also remember you like horror movies too, right?

Yeah. Yeah. So what did you think of obsession? This is what I'm curious about. It was really good. Okay. I think that obsession is one of those every now and then you'll find like a perfect movie. Yeah.

And the thing is that it's also very commercially successful. People like it. So I'm kind of like, you know, I feel a bit like, like do they appreciate enough? It's true. I have some street cred now? A little bit. Okay, good, good. I wouldn't have watched otherwise.

Like I said, nobody would watch it with me. That's what, so I am not traditionally a horror person. I don't, yeah, I don't normally like horror. Nobody's perfect. No, I'm sorry, but I like the elevated horror. You want to go snooty, right? The elevated horror. And so I don't, like, I just saw the latest evil dead and everybody loves that movie.

I didn't like it. You know, I didn't watch it. This isn't unpopular. And I will watch things like that. I don't like kids in horror movies. Like, I'll watch it. I will, but I was just like watching the trailer. I was like, I don't want to see these kids get like.

Yeah, the younger or two. And it's all the torture porn for me doesn't. do it. And like, I just, it's too much. And so, but there's other people like, that's like a 92% of rotten. Yeah. Those people dig it. But obsession, people are raving about it. And I'm also really obsession is torture porn. Eric, is it? For her, like when she's standing there, like, we're going to talk spoilers on obsession. No, that's okay. You didn't spoil anything yet. But just so people know, we're going to talk obsession. I tried. Because you know what the debate is right now? Is it bear is the villain or if the girl is the villain? Bear is clearly the villain. Are there people that say it's the

girl. Yes. Where are they? Right. No, he's clearly the villain. Yeah. You know, that's something I was thinking about.

I was like, you know, at first I was watching it and I was like, this is one of those movies that's only going to, which is not a problem. You know, I like a strong thesis, but it's only going to, it seemed like so easily agreeable to me. I was like, no one's going to argue with this. But then there was the one part where he says, and I can say what I said what I, yeah, all right. Okay.

I don't mind spoilers, but I know other people do. You know, he says, like, you know, what would be so bad about being with me? And she doesn't really answer him. Right. You know, like she says, you know, like I haven't been with you. And I feel like some in cell watching that would be like, oh, we'll see if she would just. And I'm like, but what else could you have said? Like, what else would the response to that be?

You know, because like at that point, the answer is just I just don't want to. And now that you've done this to me, of course I don't want to. Right. Yeah. It's really terrible relationship when you look into it. And it's also most people think that he's the villain. I would hope so. Yeah, it's just I was doing her.

But he's a dumb villain though. He's not like. No, he's not like, he's not like, he's not like, I'm. malicious trying to he he's a little selfish super selfish I think he's also a victim of his own unbridled untested puerile romanticism right you know like I don't think he wanted to hurt anybody no but he's but he's a pussy you know like where's right yes yeah because like so they say to him like you know she says tell me right now if you like me now's the time he doesn't so he needs magic in order to do it even after she likes him yeah when she's all into him like he's just like

I love you. He's like so weak. Week. And it's like one of these things where you're just like, you know, the more he does. And she snaps out of it a few different times. But I was watching it with my friend. And she at one point, she goes, you got to kill her. And like everyone's like, what are you talking about? She goes, I know. She's like, I know that he's the one, the bad one. But like, you got to put her out of misery. She's going to kill everybody. Because she's running in, smashing people's faces off. And that's what I said. And she's like, well, she's, she's a tough Puerto Rican chick from Queens. So she's like, so she's like. Look, it's killer be killed.

So kill him. So kill him. Take him out. Yeah, but I'm glad that you liked it. I did. Do you know the story behind like the box office with that movie? Oh, like, yeah, how it wasn't exactly fair and people made like that. No, no, not that.

I would like to get your penny on it. But no, it costs $750,000. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's made $420 million. Which is nice. Which is nice. Which is nice. It'd be nice with the people who worked on it got more of that.

Right. So here's my question with that. So, and this is, again, so coming from a professor. I don't know how it works. Now, this is something I'm very interested in talk to you about with your business and how it works, as opposed to, let's say, the deals that are made on a film like obsession or something, right? But normally there are deals that are made beforehand, contracts that are signed. So do I think morally that he, because he made an insane amount of money, will he never make another, you know,

never have to make another dime in his life? Should he give them money? Yes, 100%. Everybody should be rewarded. Is he obligated to? No. No. Right. That doesn't make the evening that every new is obligated, the, excuse me, obligated to ever work with him again or tell him that he's not a piece of shit.

Right. Because you want to reward people. Because you'd want to work with him again if you worked on it. And then you're like, hey, I just made another million when I didn't think I was going to be making another. You can have this. You can have this. And everybody else, because you'd feel like you'd feel appreciated. And you feel like you want to work with him. It would be such good press for him to do that. It would make him look like such an artist and just so respect. And it's not going to hurt him at all, you know? And I just like, you know, he's set forever and he still won't. So. Well, I don't necessarily know, though. I read one of his quotes. But he was like, well, he was like the people that, oh, my God, I'm in a bunch of somebody will look it up for me though and let me know what I've done wrong.

But he said, you know, like, well, the people who worked on it who gambled on it deserved it. And I'm like, they exactly. Yeah. So that's the question, right? It's like maybe because I always, and this is, I just don't love social media in general. We talked about this last time. And I think people jump too quick to throw people into the fire because that's why he shouldn't say things like that. True.

But we also don't know what his overall plan is. He might have a plan. I'll hold my breath. And that's fair. But if he winds up giving them all like, you know, two, three million dollars apiece, everybody should shut their ass, I think, at that point. But even if it's because the problem is now, because many people have spoken up about it, even if he does that, like, well, it's about time. Right? Well, I'd have to think what would I do in that situation?

And at that point for me, it wouldn't be about what anybody else said. Like if people pointed out, hey, you should, and I did it then, I'd be like, well, whatever. And, you know, if it's that easy to get someone to give you like a million dollars, you know, that you just have to, like, be like, hey, I would think that was good. If I was one of those people who, if I was his line producer or who the fuck ever, you know, I would. I'm with you. I'm with you. He's probably made another million dollars as we're speaking right now at the exact.

It's still in the theater, and it's making tons of money digitally. But what it's done just in general, though, as a business thing, $750,000 into this $420 million juggernaut is so interesting because you and I both are, have audiences online. And we have fan bases. And if you wanted to, you could make a film. You could make a, like whatever. Like you want it. I wish. But you could.

I don't know. You have a rabid fan base. And if you wanted to, and you started to say, they don't always do what their toll, but okay. But you did, but if you wrote something, you decided to do something. I've written something. I have a script that I want to fucking do. Have you crowdfunded for it? Oh.

Right. That's what I'm doing. I'm doing a pilot. And that's why I'm doing a television pilot and I'm crowdfunding for it. We have the Kickstarter kind of ready to go. And that's the same thing. And I said, I want to take the power out of the studio's hands. I want to do it ourselves.

I want to make sure that the audience, like if the audience digs it, and the audience likes what you're doing, then you do that. And they've been on board. And so we're launching in September. It's also why I asked you when you were. Congratulations. Thank you. And I asked you when you were on last time.

Like, because I still, and I'm going to, two things that I'm very curious that you don't, what you don't do. One, I'm curious why you don't pursue outside of your industry, the mainstream acting. Because I think that you have, there's something I've seen. I think we talked about that. I talked about this. Do you remember what I said? I just something about your fucking teeth.

It's so silly. That's so silly. I like them the way they are. They're going to make you change your teeth. Yes, they will. No, they wouldn't. That'll be the first thing they want. They're not going to make you change your teeth.

I don't want to change your teeth. You have my permission. Tell them that I told you so. But there's that. And the other thing is how you don't do a podcast is crazy. I've heard that a lot. That's crazy. You're really good on the mic.

It's a lot of work. to do a podcast. Get a producer. It's a lot of research, you know? Like, I mean, you feel free to recommend one to me. You know, it's like, I don't know. It's, it's work. It really is work.

Totally. I don't even have time to, also, I'm a control freak. Like, I was just going to say, I don't even have time to edit my own stuff. Oh, I just shot this thing. Oh, it's going to, it's going to be so beautiful. Okay. Can you talk about it or not yet? Yeah, probably.

I was like it's mine. But, like, my partner and I were, like, you know, going to this, you know, hotel, this really beautiful hotel I really like in L.A. and everyone in their mother shoots there, but I don't want to say the name of it because, you know, yeah, sure. But it's absolutely gorgeous. If you know, you know, and we're going to be staying there. And he was like, you know, we should, we should shoot something while we're here at this hotel

because I, they let you sneak in so much camera gear. It's insane. It's like this, like, really boutique hotel and it has like, like, one person on staff. So you know what's going on. I don't know how they could not. I'm not the only one who does it. Right. But, so we brought in, like, camera gear.

Oh, shit. You know what I mean? Like, a lot of stuff. And just, like, totally set everything up. And it's going to look so beautiful. I got to control all the lighting myself. Like, I deped it. I mean, like, yes, it's nice to be a director.

But, like, you know, like, I mean, I think that, like, my ultimate fantasy, like, if I could, like, go back and maybe do some things differently, I would love to be a DP. So whenever I get to, like, light me thing and, like, you know, I have, like, people on set who will like stand in for me so I can see it and like who will like you know move things around maybe Hollywood this or that you know whatever I just I'm so excited about how it's going to look and also I think the storyline is really funny um you wrote it yeah yeah yeah yeah um so where it's like it's a simple story but I like a simple story told well especially in porn okay um where it's just like he he cheats on me on and the reveal at the very end is like it's on our anniversary like I open

the case so there's not just so how many people are in the movie it's just me and him Oh, well, we kind of fake like a third person where it's just like it's my legs walking out, you know? Oh, I see. Okay. I'll get a voice actress to be like, oh, honey, you know, like don't rush me out. I still want it, you know, or whatever. But yeah. Okay.

So that's, okay, so that's fun. You're able to do that. And that kind of brings me to my next question because you had mentioned last time we spoke that you're more like an independent contractor, right? Yeah. Which is, I think, exciting? Yeah, I prefer it. You prefer it.

So how does it work then inside of your business? where let's say there's a movie that somebody has, directed that you liked working with, has a role, wants you to do it. Is it where they go through? Because I know you have obviously PR. Well, I've been around.

Yeah, they can ask Erica, which is how you got to me. That's right. Thank you, Eric. Yeah, thank you, Erica. At the red PR. Yeah, so for a lot of actors, actresses, like they have an agent,

an agency that you'll go through. But, you know, I don't. And by choice. Yeah, by choice. No, I've, people have tried. But I just, I like to keep my money. I like to negotiate on my own. And I like to have full control of my own schedule.

I don't want someone telling, oh, my God. I think that the worst one was I was, you know, on set. And I won't say who this girl was crying. And I was like, what's wrong, honey? And she's like, my agent won't let me go home for Thanksgiving. Oh, shit. I have to go to a party at his house, you know. And I was just like, Jesus.

I don't want that. Do you want to be in control of it? Yeah. I don't want anyone telling me. me what to do. I feel like, so is that, because that's tough, obviously, tougher to do, I shouldn't say obviously, but it's tougher to do in, like, if you're negotiating, let's say, a pilot on NBC and negotiating your own deal is you're probably going to get taken advantage of. Yeah. So do you? A lot of these girls, though, that they, they have an agent and stuff,

like they don't read their contracts. Right. And so they've all, like, like, one of the things that I'm worried that my career is a little bit over because I won't sign AI paperwork. And, almost everyone else I've talked to just just does it because they want to just does it or or they'll do something where they don't quite understand how contracts works so they'll let like the director just write on it like oh no AI and then they'll sign it and like that's not in the contract and your contract is not with the director it's with the studio so he's just tricking you to get you to sign it so he can get his paycheck and get you out of there because he doesn't understand that he's not going to be hired to be in AI scenes either but yeah so I I don't know man I still see them get and take advantage yeah so okay shit a lot there where you're talking about with AI you were on not necessarily on the fence about it but you were it was still I guess even I think there are applications that can work but right but you just don't want to do the full sign over yet I don't want to out so you know it's like that thing about like I don't want to like I want AI to do my dishes so I can go do art I don't want to doing my art so I can do I want it I want to fuck that's what I want to do I want the AI to do my marketing and editing so I can fuck right is what I

want, which makes sense. And so when it comes down to that with AI, because they are taking over and making new things, that, oh, I wish I had the video. I'm going to show it to you before you leave. We were on the air as me, Roxy and Mike, and out of no, and he blamed this on you, and you can yell at Mike. What? Yeah. So there was a thing that popped up and it's on Mike's computer as he's watching. It pops over. It goes, AI sluts. And it pops on. I go, AI slots. I go, what? What's that? And he goes, oh, no, I follow. Penny Barber and it popped up on his thing. And Roxy goes, Roxy says, Mike, I follow Penny Barber and I've never seen that. And I said, I follow her too. Never seen that. And so he's

like, oh, you know, and he just was, he goes, he's just like a chronic masturbator? He might be. He might be. He might be. Good for him. He's good work if you can get it. Right. He's by far the one of the best things that's happened to the show and I don't want him to watch it. He looks so clean cut. He looks like such a nice guy. I went to college with him. Okay. He's an animal. All right. All right. Absolutely. Thank you. But he's a little. But he's a He's a wonderful person. I hate that effect that I'm saying something nice about him. But he's a, he is.

He's a good person. He's funny. He likes to enjoy himself. He sure does. And he's got a super hot girlfriend. So like he's doing, he's doing good friends. Yeah, yeah. Oh.

So we brought her on and we talked after it because he was. I want to see Mike's super hot girlfriend. Oh, she's a picture. Okay. So he was like, because you didn't get the real Mike that day. He barely said anything. Barely said a word. He can't shut him up.

I thought he was just very terse. I don't know. You can't shut him up. Like, if you see all the stuff that he knows, like, when he gets comfortable, he's, and we used to, we ran this game show back in the day, which was called the movie tribute show show you, Schmo'd out, and it was like, movie trivia. We used to do, like, thousand seat theaters, and it was like, we toured, and it was really cool.

But then you developed it. Yes. It was college when I, my confidence for me, who I was didn't happen until I was like 18 or 19. So. I mean, that's pretty young still, though. Yeah. I mean, I said that. I said like, you know, I didn't really.

But is that I am respected in my turnout and the quality of my work is respected by other actors and models and directors. And that, like, I have a reputation for quality. So that means something.
