Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen.
It's the big thing.
It's Monday.
Hope you had a great weekend.
This is, uh, we look, we had a different story planned out today.
But right before we were going to go live about 15, 20 minutes beforehand,
the news came in that Jonathan Majors, the actor of, uh, Kang in Marvel and Creed 3,
he was found guilty of assault, harassment.
Now, not a lot of major charges, um, but there are.
still found guilty.
So what does that mean moving forward?
And does this mean that he's pretty much going to be done with the role of Kang,
with Marvel,
what's it mean in general for his career?
We'll discuss that for sure.
I'm going to try to bounce off into some other topics.
You know,
there's things that we're going to lead with was the James Gunn story,
where James Gunn says that in DCU,
this Arkham show that Matt Reeves is going to do,
Well, that's part of the, that's part of the DCU now.
What?
Wait a minute.
I thought it was part of the Matt Reeves Batman thing.
And I don't, it's, I'm confused.
But other people told me not to be confused.
So we'll see if Roker thinks I should be confused.
And there's some few other things to me in the box office.
Mawki did pretty well in the box office.
These other,
there are smaller movies that are doing well in the box office.
Movies that kind of go against some of the points that I was making on Thursday show that
some of these smaller movies are doing better,
but it's also maybe adding to my point,
because the budgets were smaller,
and they made some money.
So we'll discuss that.
Jen Ortega, man, she's a big star.
We know Wednesday made her a big star.
They're talking about spinoffs now with that,
and there's a spinoff from some other peeky blinders.
Are there too many spinoff shows?
Should they focus on the shows that are happening at the moment?
What do you think?
We'll talk about that as well.
So make sure also,
that you subscribe to us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify,
anywhere podcasts are found.
And I wanted to thank you guys before you even get into this thing too.
We did a, um, we had, I had told you I was having computer problems and we were doing
some stuff for the office in general.
And my goodness, we had the, the Amazon playlist for Christmas.
There's like four things left.
You guys got us a whole bunch of stuff.
And I can't thank you.
enough for that. So thank you. Patreon is doing well and everything's doing good. So thank you
guys for joining us here today. I got John Roka with me and we're going to be talking about all
of these things and more on the episode of the big thing. So I hope buckle in and then we are going
to be taking super chats and all that. Don't worry. I'll discuss that in a second. But it's the big thing.
It's me and John Roka. Let's do it. Hello, everybody. Welcome back. Here it is. Here's the show.
joining me two weeks in a row from the john roka youtube channel you know him there he is the outlaw
himself john roka what's up what's up what a morning what a morning indeed and we haven't even
even had a chance to uh settle in i had all these stories that we were doing and yeah things together
put up my review of iron claw this morning and i was like okay putting together these topics and
send you the link i'm like here we go and then right beforehand it's funny i started changing the topic
and I started changing the picture right away.
And then I'm getting tagged.
You better change the topic.
You better change this.
I'm like,
I did it already.
Give me a break.
But rightfully so.
I understand it.
So we're going to really dive into this.
And look,
I see somebody in the,
and this is for people who are joining us for the first time.
Or in general on the live stream.
The way it works is we have our topics that we're going to talk about.
And we'll go through all of them.
I see the super chats already coming in.
Please send them in throughout the show.
And then while we're done, once we finish,
no matter how many,
or in a cut it out, John,
no matter how many are in there, we're going to make sure that we get to all of them.
So we're not going to miss any of them.
So make sure that you throw that in there.
All right, John, we got some breaking news here today.
I'm going to get into it in just a second.
I want to make sure I have a – I didn't even have a chance.
I didn't have a chance to send a picture.
So you even put a picture in there yet, John.
No, go ahead.
I got to put a picture of the actual topic that we're going to be talking about here today because it is.
Jonathan Majors, the actor who plays Kang.
Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assault and harassment.
This coming from Hollywood Reporter, the verdict was reached on Monday by a six-person jury after four hours of deliberation spread across three days.
The actor is set to be sentenced on February 6th.
New York jury found Marvel actor Jonathan Majors guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and guilty of her.
Harassment. The verdict was reached on Monday by a six-person jury after roughly over four hours of deliberations spread across three days.
Majors wearing a gray suit and a black dress shirt and a tie sat with his attorney's family members and his girlfriend making good behind him as the verdict was read.
He was found not guilty of intentional assault in the third degree and not guilty of aggravated harassment in second degree.
Sentencing is set for February 6th.
Majors faced four charges of assault, aggravated harassment,
and harassment after he called 911 on March 25th when he said he found his ex-partner, Grace Jabari,
unconscious in their apartment. Police arrested Majors after finding apparent injuries on Jabari,
including a laceration behind her ear and a bruised and fractured finger.
Majors pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Jabari, who took the witness stand for the first four days of the trial, said Majors had caused the injuries
during an altercation in the car several hours before.
She testified the alleged incident occurred in a private car when she saw a text on Major's phone
that read, oh, how I wish to be kissing you.
Jabari has said she tried to snatch the phone from Majors who pride her finger away from the phone,
grabbed her arm and right hand, twisted her forearm, and struck her head to get the phone away from her.
The first three charges are misdemeanor offenses and related to alleged incidents in the car.
The fourth charge of harassment, which is a violation, the most minor offense among the charges,
relates to an allegation that Majors threw Jabari back into the car as she tried to exit.
The defense alleged that he placed her back in the car.
car to stop her from running into traffic. That action is captured on surveillance video,
while the altercation inside the car was not captured on camera. The charges against
majors were brought by the state of New York rather than Jabari herself. The case was a criminal
trial rather than civil, meaning the burden of proof is higher for the jury who had to find
proof of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt on each charge. The rest has already implications on what
had been the biggest year in major's career, which includes starring roles in Ant Man in the
Wasp, Creed 3, Loki, Seasoned.
in the wake of his arrest, both his publicity firm and managers and the Disney-owned search
life features removed magazine dreams from its release calendar. During the trial, prosecutors
approached us as a case of domestic violence, while the defense repealed he called Javier's
credibility into question and positioned it as an ex's revenge. So, I mean, there's a lot more
here, John, obviously, inside of this. And we can talk about a little more about things maybe
that you read. Yeah. But I mean, I think the major conversation that's going to come
year is whether or not you know everyone's going to say this is like there's the trial itself there's
the things inside that that's not really what we're going to talk about more so what's going to happen
regardless i already see it in the comment section is people are going to say well he wasn't
convicted of all the major charges so he shouldn't be fired and it's like i don't know it's like
marvel you got to realize also marvel's a business and you'll see what we talked about
the other day on capes and cows and i said you got to listen to all the
facts. You got to hear everything out and you got to see what the verdict is. Right, right.
You can't, you can't, and I think they handled it right. And they didn't make any,
many changes. They didn't make any statements until the trial, but the trial is over and he was
found guilty, albeit not the major charges, still found guilty. I think they're going to replace
them and I can understand if they do. Yeah. What do you say? I think this is a, there's going to be a lot
of parsing in the situation. First of all, it's just sat all around, right? Because this is clearly,
you don't put your hands on a woman, no matter what the situation is really most, you know,
99% of that you just don't put your hands on a woman. It's not how it works. I watched that video,
and that video is uncomfortable to watch. I saw other people try to spin it like, oh, she's chasing
him down the street. He is a massive dude who is jogging down the street. He is not running away from her
and fear for his life.
He is jogging down the street ahead of her
because you could go much faster if you wanted to.
You listen to those text messages.
She recorded him without his knowledge
and the audio there really shows you a guy
who has a very grandiose opinion of himself,
which is not a negative ego
is a part of being successful for most people.
But at the end of the day,
it's a very talented black man
who was transcending as an actor
or all the normal expectations you would have in a situation like this in terms of Marvel and him being a big bad.
This was such a great moment.
He was building with momentum.
And this situation happens.
And look, the first thing is we hope the young woman is okay.
She gets therapy for dealing with the trauma of all that.
But we also hope, and I say this as a man, looking back on my own life in terms of, you know, the things you say, the emotions you have in certain.
relationships and things of that nature.
Like you've got to be aware of things in your life.
You've got to have, if you've got some issues to deal with, you've got to get therapy,
you got to get some counseling, because that's going to get you to understand what the triggers
are that are causing these situations.
And Christian, got a text message that says, you know, I want to be kissing you.
So clearly something was going on here with Jonathan Majors on the side, with other people on the
side. But this is just like, to me,
a little bit like the Amber or Johnny Death thing.
Like it was just a bad match.
Toxic shit went on between two people.
And that's really, at the end of the day,
a jury decided what they decided.
And you want to argue degrees, knock yourself
out. Marvel doesn't have time
for that. No, I don't think so either. And I think we're both
on the same page that. I do push back
a little bit on the side of the,
what the video on the running side of it.
The way that I perceived it,
he was trying to avoid the
situation as best he could.
Whether he was, you know, feeling guilty from the text and didn't want her to see it or not.
He was running away so he didn't, the way that I perceived it.
He didn't want it to escalate.
And he didn't want to be.
Werening away from the situation.
Worse than it was.
And he got away.
So to me, it was like, I thought the running away from it was a good way to separate it for it.
So that's the way that I saw the video.
But again, I'm not on the jury.
But I didn't see the other stuff too.
And I didn't hear a lot of the other things.
I'm just talking about the specific video, the way I interpreted.
Yeah, yeah, totally.
But I do think we're on the same.
age that it's just like you know you get yourself into this position and when you are at a place
in this high profile thing that when your personal life bleeds into it especially it's something
I hope high profile like this marvel can say no we're just going to we're going to move on because
the other thing is too the way that it's set up at the end of loki is that you could move on to it
without necessarily you don't have to replace you know you could just say that king's not around
anymore and the TVA took care of all the variants and now doom's coming in and and here you go.
So that's really where they could go with it.
But I don't think you're at you're you're, you're at a lose, lose with Marvel no matter what.
Because Marvel is going to make the announcement and social media is going to go after them.
No matter what, no matter what their announcement is.
Yeah.
If their announcement is we're keeping them, we're going to, we're going to wait until the sentencing on people are going to lose their mind.
vice versa. There are private people in the comment section here.
Not going to be happy with this.
You've got to as a business say, what's the best move for our business at this moment?
And can we move on from this?
And I think that's exactly what's going to happen and should happen.
Yeah. And I think let's be real here.
I mean, the last two phases have not been going well.
And although Jonathan Majors as a performer has been received well,
although there are people who argued that they didn't like his performance at the end of Loki's
season one and that unusual
cadence and approach
that character, but they did enjoy
him in Quantumania, liked
him in Loki season two, but clearly
there are a lot of issues going on with Marvel
right now. There's a lot of resetting,
pulling back, reshooting,
re-looking at things. And so I agree with
you, this is all they
need to move on from it and
the stain of it. And whatever your feelings
are, personally, that's a separate
situation than a business. This is a
business owned by Disney.
a family company, regardless
what your feelings are about the strike
or these other things, their brand is family.
And if you're got the family situation,
you don't want to make your big baddies
someone who has been convicted
or found guilty of secondary,
third degree assault harassment.
You want to argue the degrees.
You just can't have that, you know,
and it's a bad look overall.
So I think the combination of factors of that
the last two phases aren't going so well,
so maybe a switch up is the right move
and the fact that he was convicted of this
gives them all the reason they need to move past it.
Plus, we're not getting another movie after Deadpool 3 until 2025, Christian.
So this is the time to reset.
Let people forget, let this stuff die down and just make new cast great and make new moves.
I think Fantastic 4 gets confirmed soon, and I think X-Men is maybe next up here to start having rumors for it.
Maybe so.
And I think that one of the things that you really look at here is if you're going to ask yourself on an executive level, right,
if I was going to say to you, if you and I were sitting, okay, look, the, the, the jury came to
their decision. It's out there now. Now, what, now, what's our decision? Is our decision we're going to
keep him or is we're going to get rid of him or not continue with him, rather? What do we think,
ultimately is going to be the biggest blowback because you're going to get blowback no matter what?
What's going to be the biggest blowback? In my opinion, and I could be wrong here, but in my
opinion if you move on because you've already settled and people have been talking about the
potential that he was either going to be replaced or something was going to happen in general that
people are somewhat prepared for it um but what you you would get people who are going to be complaining
about it for a bit and as you said you only have movies that are coming out in two three years from now
by the time you get to two or three four years from now um when movies are coming out and they're
going towards two or three years towards doom or whatever people at even the ones who maybe
either A, we're really upset about it and decided, okay, I'm going to keep watching now.
Don't like the way they handled it, but I'm going to keep moving.
Or those people have left and don't want to watch Marvel anymore, but it continues on.
Where the vice versa is, if they decide to keep him, then for three, four years, you're going to consistently hear about it.
Yes.
People.
So it's, I think that the choice would be you got to move on.
Yeah, you got to.
I mean, women's groups are going to be very, what is what you've seen lately?
from Marvel and from Disney, right, from the top down,
it's been focusing more on female stories, female-led stories,
and I think you can't have someone who's been convicted
or found guilty, rather, of these things,
be in charge, be the big batty and be the person that gets
showing up on all the red carpets, gets interviewed,
gets all the junkets, you know,
it's going to be a constant topic of conversation,
and you can't have that.
And I think this is just sad also because I imagine
Jonathan Majors could have settled this out of court,
could have found a way to find some agreement
and pay a certain amount and then just move on.
So I'd love to find out
and I'd be curious to find out.
What was the logic in trying to go this far?
Was it to try to save his name and save his reputation
and save his shot at Marvel?
Or was there something else?
Oh, you're saying going through the trial itself?
Yes. I think that's probably it, right?
It's pushed away.
Once you, okay, good, I did it.
It was an altercation.
We had a bad fight.
I get it.
I shouldn't have done this.
Here's the money and I'll move off.
You know, happens all the time.
There's a lot that goes into it, man, too.
Same thing, you know, for the fact that even afterwards and the fact that he felt he was doing the right thing by calling 911 and saying, like, look, here, here's the deal.
And he didn't feel that he did anything in his mind, didn't do anything to warrant getting fired.
So he wanted to fight it in courts.
I don't know.
Again, I don't know enough about all of the details.
I know as much as the guest tuning in making sure like for us for what we cover on the show the question is is he going to carry on
past
This verdict and I don't think he will and I don't think a lot of people are gonna
You know Marvel's gonna say we just we just can't so yeah, and I do see I saw a couple of people putting in the super chats again
We're gonna get through all them. We have a lot of topics here that we're gonna talk about today
I see we have about
Now I can't even tell 13 1400 people in here watching right now
And we're gonna discuss so if
there are things that you want to talk about, especially regarded to this topic,
throw in your super detuts now.
When we're done with the actual topic itself, excuse me, the topics themselves,
we will get into all of them.
We'll leave none of the topics.
But also, I think that the other side of this too, John,
besides before we move on to it, I see that I'm, I got you on there the whole time.
I like looking at you, but.
Oh.
So we got, um, the other, the other thing I was going to say is that in regards to his career, right?
You and I kind of talked about it a little bit, too.
There have been a lot of, well, let me, before we jump into that,
I saw that somebody had also mentioned like Ezra Miller and that Ezra Miller was a convicted felon and was still working.
I thought Ezra Miller should have been replaced.
I agree. 100%.
But Ezra Miller was never found guilty of everything, anything inside of a court,
just insert that verdict for the charges.
I just want to make that clear.
But I do think, but I do agree that Ezra Miller should have been,
The problem is that movie was shot already.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
And it was coming out.
Now, if Ezra Miller would have been allowed to continue on, that would have been a major issue.
I think that the same, I mean, it was easy for Warner Brothers that that movie ate shit.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because if that movie did well, the dilemma that they would have been in, I thought even if the movie did a billion dollars, they should, they still, they should have gotten read, Ezra Miller in general.
Right.
And I'm aware that Ezra Miller wasn't convicted of anything.
But there's, as you said before, there's just too much stink on it.
Yeah.
To where it's like now, let's, and you're not connected to a DCU.
You have, you, excuse me, you are connected to a DCU where you could recast.
And it's like, okay, we get it.
So, but there's a different situation there of, you can't, you can't say, well, they
didn't replace Ezra Miller.
That movie was done.
It was over.
Now they didn't, and, and Ezra Miller did like two seconds of press or whatever might be.
And Ezra Miller did not continue on.
That was the big question at the time.
where everybody rightfully so was going, well, wait a minute.
How is Ezra Miller still in there?
They're going to continue with Ezra Miller?
And the answer is the movie ate shit,
so they didn't have to deal with that problem.
That's why that problem went away.
And Ezra reached agreements with the people who are making the accusations.
If you go back and look at it,
some of them reached agreements with him.
And so that's that.
And he didn't go to a court.
When you go to a court that puts the spotlight on everything on you,
it drags out the story.
as a news cycle for numerous news cycles.
More people become aware of it.
Eyes get on it.
Your brand gets brought into that situation.
And certainly the last thing Disney wants to be connected to is a sexual assault,
sexual harassment situation.
And so you factor all that in.
Now, with Ezra, like said, if they had just gotten rid of Ezra,
I think a lot of people would have been fine with it.
But the moviegoers voted.
They voted by not going to see the movie.
Okay.
That's a big deal.
look at Westside story.
The whole thing with Ansel Elgort,
all that stuff came out before the movie,
the movie tanked.
It did not do well.
So there are a contingent of people,
I truly believe,
who do not go see some of these movies
because of the more high-profile accusations
that are happening and going on.
And as a marvel,
you're already suffering from low-ticket sales
in certain situations
from taking hits over the last few years
for the, I don't know,
the middling returns of some of the,
the stuff you've done, you don't want to take a chance in a situation like this and cause the
possibility of even less people coming to see your stuff because of all the noise around it.
You know, people already skipped secret invasion and the marvels because they're like,
I don't want to see it. I don't need to see it, you know. Yeah, it's, it's just everything,
no matter what they try to do it, right now Marvel is just in having issues left and right,
you know, and this is adding to another one. But in regards to majors and his career, you know,
this I saw some people kind of tweeting out his career is over it's done you're not going to see him ever again
I don't think that's true at all um I think that because now as I say before I do think that there are
charges that have um they're not the the the most extreme charges or the most uh serious charges
rather that he's it was the minor charges that he was convicted of um I do think that he'll have
an opportunity to have redemption. I do think they'll have an opportunity. And I think that
there, rightfully so, that anybody can have a chance to, and should have a chance for redemption,
you know, and have a chance to make up whatever the mistakes that have happened. And I think
that you look at a lot of people who have had comebacks and, you know, and some people maybe
that shouldn't have had comebacks. And I think he will.
have a comeback and I don't know how long that'll take I mean like I said the guy is being
convicted in in sentence rather in in February so he's too talented not to come back and this wasn't
an overtly egregious you know assault situation you know like you and I both sports fans what happened
with Ray Rice that was horrific seeing those videos in the elevator door seeing him puncher that was
horrific, right? Ray did the counseling. Ray went and did the therapy, and then Ray couldn't get back
into football fully. So he became a person who went around and spoke about the dangers of this.
Went about, spoke about domestic violence and to not do it to the young men. Like he tried to be a
counselor, Michael Vic with the dog situation, the same thing. So I think with Jonathan Majors, if he's
not going to appeal this thing, and look, he can go to prison for a year. I see some of you discounting
these charges if they don't mean anything. He can go to a prison for a year for these charges. So
they do mean something. Prison in New York.
You know, make that clear. It's saying to Andy Griffith's show.
You're not sitting in some jail cell.
And so this is real, you know, and so you see that.
And I think that's going to be the thing.
If he does the therapy, if he does, if he does show like a real desire to fix certain things and address certain things,
I think people are going to be more than willing to welcome him back.
And I see some people saying we need a black person on the panel.
And I understand it.
And I totally respect that.
But you want to talk about the nuances of all that as a black man and a white.
relationship and all of that. That's a separate
conversation, you know, and that's not
to do with Marvel. Marvel is about
a business, and it's like, what can we do
here as a business? And I'll dress that
also, the other things, too, like I said, and I had a
very long, I had a very long conversation with Winston
on the show on Friday,
and we talked about it for a bit. As I
said to you guys, and some of you might be coming in here, and you
just saw the title, you don't know who the fuck we are, and you come
in it to check out the show.
John and I were planning on doing the show,
and this broke. You know, and
is broke so it's like i don't disagree with you i would love to have um i would love to have a black
person in here to talk about this as well too but guess what i'm just about to hit play sometimes
that happens guys it's that's the that's the way it is it's like i'm about to do the show
i click the button as a way there's a topic i don't want to not do the topic right so we're doing the
topic and i get it i understand it completely and i understand that you know points of view and i'm
going to talk about it more because because winston's coming on the show on friday yeah i'll be
discussing that uh we're definitely going to be discussing this more because as that show is more so in
the comic book movie realm and we'll be discussing the kind of the implications so i understand that i
understand that being said but it's also when it shows about to happen five seconds beforehand
these this is who you got today yeah this is who you got and i'm a person of color i'm a full
latino i hope i'm adjacent a little bit to have a conversation about how this can be a bit
and i also think you have to respect and it's also a matter of like respectfully talking about it
yeah i think you got to talk in an approach like because i don't disagree with someone it's just
Like, well, this white guy, what's he know about it?
Look, I'm telling you, I want to, like, and I was talking about it beforehand when this thing was going down.
The first thing that I said is you have to listen to the facts before you just pass judgment on somebody and go, yep, that guy is guilty.
You can't do that.
And that's what people do on Twitter all the damn time.
It's like, no matter what, oh, wait, you did that.
Here's a rock.
I'm going to hit you in a face with it.
That's what people do all the time and you can't do that.
And that's why I do say, regardless, I have been very hard on Marvel.
over the last year, two years.
A lot of their stuff has just been subpar being general, right?
But I do give them credit that they didn't jump the gun here and just say, he's out.
They waited.
Right.
They waited for the process.
Yeah, exactly.
They respected the process.
Yeah.
I respect to the process.
So look, I get it.
It's a heated topic.
I understand it for sure.
And who knows what's going to go down with the rest of it.
But appreciate you guys.
Leave your comments.
Yeah.
And we're going to keep talking about more stuff.
We're going to try to transition to other things.
I know that's not going to be the easiest today to do.
But we're going to try it.
I think the best way to do it, maybe I'll throw you a sponsor right away.
And it's holiday season, man.
And let's get right to it.
Let's tell you about Rocket Money.

What I do know is that I'm cleaning up all my financials because of Rocket Money.
I love Rock and Money guys.
I'm telling you, get it.
It'll change your life.
All right, Roca.
I love it.
Rocket Money.
Let's go.
Well, they used to be, they were a different company.
They were a different name.
And then I already had had them.
And then Rocket Money came on.
I was like, it tells you.
She was like, hey, stupid, you're spending too much.
You didn't spend enough this month.
I love it.
I love Rocket Mike.
Here's, this is the topic that I thought was going to be our main topic, John.
Which was, this is that James Gunn stuff.
and James Gunn is now
he's got this Arkham Asylum thing.
What is this?
No, that's not it.
That's Ghostbusters.
Ghostbusters.
There is.
There is.
All right.
So I'm going to tell you about what he's saying here.
The James Gunn says that this Arkham series is set in the new DCU,
to which I say, what the fuck?
These studios, co-chief James Gunn has confirmed that the Batman director, Matt Reeves,
is developing a series set within Gunn and Peter Safron's new DCU universe.
Reeves is slated to direct the Batman sequel and is listed as executive producer on Max's
the Penguin series, which is a spinoff of that film and set within that universe,
one separate from the larger interconnected DC universe of Gunn's Superman Legacy and the other
DC films following.
Reeves has also been linked as an executive producer of a series set in Gotham City's
Arkham Asylum, which has been floating around since 2020.
That project was originally going to be Gotham PD series that would have served as a prequel to the Batman before shifting to a series set with the famed psychiatric institute slash prison.
The project was last heard about about a year ago when filmmaker Antonio Campos was set as a director, showrunner, and executive producer.
This week, Gunn was asked on threads if Reeves was working on more projects in the Batbers aside from those mentioned three.
Gunn cleared up that the Arkham project won't be set within the Batman world, but in the new DCU, he says.
Right now, Matt is producing Arkham as a DCU series.
So there's just the two for now.
We love Matt as a director and producer, so he'll be producing stories both within the Batman universe and within the DCU.
Gunn then added that the Arkham series was always planned to be set in the DCU and never was an Elseworld's project, a la the Batman or Joker.
It was one of the first pitches we bought when Peter and I.
I came on board. I don't know the permutations it went through before that time.
Okay. So, I mean, I hear the comments. I understand the, what he's saying here,
that this is, I think it's because Matt Reeves is attached to it.
It was like a separate thing. Well, look, there's elseworld stuff and the Batman's part
of the elseworld stuff. And everyone, okay, that's cool. We like the Batman stuff.
But then the fact that Matt Reeves is a part of it, does that mean that is the new DCU Batman
going to be anywhere near that series and if so are we going to fight like let's say it's it's jens
neckles if he winds up being Batman and and so he's over there and now Matt Reeves is producing
him as Batman and he's directing uh you know patinson as the other Batman it's like it just
it's it's it's so it's it's a lot you know am I wrong it's a lot no you're not wrong this is the
problem and it's so frustrating because we've been and people got mad at me last week when I said
this but it's true he keeps changing his
He keeps switching the goalposts.
He keeps changing the goalpost as it becomes convenient for him.
And it's a little bit frustrating because I will say this,
and I'll add this to the story,
a couple of my sources have reached out about this story for me over the weekend.
And one of them says they're planning to do this
in between each of the Batman installments.
So the penguin is here between one and two.
And the rumor they're hearing is that it'll be a Catwoman series between two and three,
like Zoe Kravitz, Catwoman series.
maybe the GCPD or the Catwoman series.
So basically this is all just kind of to flesh out what Matt Reeves is doing because people loved his version of the Batman.
But James Gunn going, I'm going to borrow here, borrow here, move this.
It's the same thing he was saying about Peacemaker, where he was saying, we need a fresh start.
But look, there might be characters and there might be actors who come back to play these characters,
but they may not have the same source material, but they're coming, like I've gotten keeping Amanda Waller by Ella Davis.
I'm keeping John Sina.
you know he's keeping Jennifer Holland as the character she played.
So it's just kind of switching around all the time to whatever works for him and what is convenient.
And listen, it's his universe.
He can do what he wants is James Gunn.
But the switching around and you're messing with people's people having a hard time with the multiverse now, dude,
and people want out of the multiverse of Marvel.
You start playing with this kind of situation with DC and start connecting them tenuously with,
only these people connect and these people don't connect.
That's going to piss people off.
It is because, look, there is the argument that the, well, I guess it's argument for and against.
The outside, you, me, people watching this show, people keeping up with this could feel that way.
Like, well, what's connected?
What's not connected?
I don't know what it is, but at least we'll know because we pay attention to it, how to not to.
The question is, are the average person who thinks something's connected, who doesn't is, I don't know if this is connected.
I'm just going to see it because of this.
And it's in a DCU that it's not proven yet.
Because it hasn't really launched yet.
It launches the first DCU character, character that launched was Blue Beetle, not the movie, the character.
So the character launched.
And right then and there, that's confusing to the casual viewer because the casual viewer is going to think that that movie connects.
We know, because we're paying attention to the statements that the character connects, but the movie doesn't, which again, confusing.
The Batman, there's part of the, you should have just found a way to bring in the Batman.
Yeah, Robert Patton.
You just should have brought,
make him part of it and figure it out to where,
how it's connected.
I know it's a lot darker.
I mean,
you got the David Fincher to where they're going to go with Superman now
and how it's going to be more traditional Superman,
old school,
which I love.
But like they need to set all that up.
So it is confusing.
It can still work.
And I say this as a James,
like James Gunn knows what he's doing.
He knows what he's doing.
Like you watch stuff,
like even the stuff that didn't do financially well.
The Suicide Squad is one of my favorite comic book movies maybe ever.
I love that movie.
But maybe it's in my top 10 to 20, we'll say.
10 to 20.
Because I was not expecting to like that movie because I didn't,
wrongfully so, had judged it on what we had seen with Suicide Squad when that came out.
And I laughed my fucking ass off with that movie.
And then because of it, I watched Peacemaker and he did Peacemaker and Guardians 3.
I was not a big Guardians 2 fan.
I have since gone back and watched Guardians 2 and liked it better than I initially did,
but I think it is still suffers from the, it's a joke fest.
Like maybe there's some funny jokes, but it's like, hey, you get a joke, you get a joke, you get a joke.
Even though you're not really supposed to have a joke, there's a funny joke I thought of my head and you should say this.
But three, three had the most emotion.
I actually like three better than one.
And he's just, he's there right now.
And he's moved.
So it's just, it's a different thing though when you're directing and creating.
to then say, oh, but all this other stuff that I'm doing.
I'm producing this and I got to tell him that, yeah, you should do that,
and then you should do that, and you're okay there.
It's a crazy conductor thing.
Yeah.
And right now, this is not a great symphony.
I'm going to make another sports reference here, man.
For years, right, Dan Snyder owned the Washington football team, commanders,
Redskins, whatever they were, my team.
But boy, he won the off season every time, didn't he?
He was like, I'm going to, I'm picking up Dion Sanders and Bruce Smith.
and this receiver and that lineman and that quarterback and this thing.
And I'm,
I'm piling up all these great little assets.
And then we're going to win the Super Bowl, right?
Right now, we're in the longest off season ever before the DCU starts.
And all this stuff that's going on when you haven't even planted one flag fully.
Yes, Blue Beetle.
Yeah, but Blue Beetle is like the Incredible Hulk there in 2008.
It's like, okay, yeah, kind of connected, but maybe not.
We'll see what plays out with this whole thing.
Now, there is way too much chatter about all the stuff it's going to be when you haven't even planted the first flag on the ground to make sure this is good.
Because where's all that chatter going to go if Superman legacy underperforms isn't that well received or, you know, gets criticism for it overall quality wise and performance wise.
What are you going to do then?
Then you have to readjust.
Then you're changing on the fly.
Then is Matt Reeves going to do better?
And also, James hasn't had to do all of this yet with creators at the same time.
You can say, oh, I can do Fagie's job until you actually have Figgy's job and you have to deal with all the stuff that goes on with Fagie.
A lot of people see what you do.
And they're like, oh, I can do what Christian does.
And then they start doing it like, oh, my God, I can't do this.
Yeah, exactly.
Once you're in it, it's a whole other ballgame.
Yeah, and I don't know if James Gunn was, I actually think that James Gunn is pretty realistic when it comes to this stuff too.
from things that I've heard about him.
And that's one of the reasons why he chose to do it with Peter Saffron, right?
Now, James Gunn obviously is always the one that gets the focus on because he's James Gunn.
Right.
Peter Safran is not as well known, but he's making as many decisions as James Gunn is.
They're running this thing together.
But it always seems to be like, James Gunn's the guy, James Gunn's the guy.
And I think there's a reason why James Gunn realizes because how much is involved,
because he knows how much Kevin Feigy does do that he'd seen so much of it.
that he also wants to make sure he doesn't wind up getting burnt out from the,
from the non-creative side of it.
I mean,
I guess everything can be argued that there's a creative aspect to it for sure,
but you know what I mean,
as far as directing and writing,
that kind of thing.
But look how he's not even handling the Zachary Levi's situation,
Chris.
I mean,
like,
he's not addressing it?
He's not even saying for sure one way or another, right?
And Wonder Woman,
Galgado came out.
Oh, yeah,
Wonder Woman 3,
we're totally working on it.
That's what I mean about having it both ways.
And it feels to me like he is consistently having it both ways just in case I want to pull this toy back out of the I don't want to play with it anymore.
It was someone else's toy.
But just maybe I'm going to keep the box with the toys.
And if I want to pull them out, I'll use them.
Well, you know what he did?
You know what he did the business move?
They both did him and Safran in the beginning of it.
And this is what they did.
And it is, I get it.
But this is what happened.
Yeah.
Makes the announcement.
And he says, they say, okay, what's going to happen with, with Gal Gadot?
what's going to happen with the flash what's going to happen with mammao what's going to happen with
ben afflick and what he said henry well henry harry cavil was the only one right fair
not happening because he knew he was making a superman movie yeah so that was the first he was the first
one to go no no i can say that because i know he's not coming back the other ones in his mind he's
like well here's what i got to do i they're probably not going to come back because i don't need them
but if they make of all these movies make money galga dots in two of our movies shazams and another
you know, because Galgado was in Shazam,
Galgado was in the Flash.
And if these movies do well,
because like we said before,
if the Flash wound up doing really, really well,
and so did Shazam,
they would have a big dilemma on their hands.
Now, granted, probably a dilemma that they would want on their hands.
The studio would want to make this money.
But if the audience really wanted to see the continuation of these characters,
then that's why they said, well, we're keeping the door open.
That's what he said.
We're keeping the door open.
You know, you keep the door open if they make money.
Exactly. Yeah. Exactly. And it's easy for you to say, like, you're not going to ever see Ezra Miller as the flashing end ever. No.
Unless it's like a crazy cameo and even that would be a bad choice.
But Gal Gadot coming back, I think the conversations did happen at one point. We'll see how it goes.
Door could be open, whatever. And then they realized, because remember, Patty Jenkins walked away from it because she didn't, from what they say is and she didn't want to play ball within the DC.
It wasn't what she wanted to do. And she wasn't that she had a different.
vision of where she wanted to go with it.
So she decided to move on.
Yeah.
So I think if Patty Jenkins would have signed on to that,
maybe Gallagodeau would have been around.
Maybe that conversation was something that was real,
but it's,
but it,
it lends to your point of what you were saying.
The whole thing is sloppy.
Yeah.
There's,
yeah.
So I don't know.
What do you guys think?
This is a,
it's a very crazy,
crazy conversation over there.
I think they're going to have more answers once, you know,
these things start coming out.
because there's
Superman and the first thing is
that was the commandos, the creature,
was it all? Yeah, yeah.
Picture commanding, whatever.
The first one is an animated series and that comes out for us.
So that's like the official launch of the DCU,
but the first like live action thing is Superman and that's 2025.
But even that's messy Christian.
I mean, you go with a blue beetle kind of soft open
and then you go with an animated series just to play it safe
and then we'll have a big live action.
You can come out, boom.
You put you, you,
You are.
I mean,
again,
going to the casual fan,
like they don't know
what the hell
Creature Commandos is.
That's true.
They're not going to watch.
You're watching with Superman.
That's because,
because here's the difference.
If Creature Commandos eat shit,
nobody watches it,
the DCU's still alive.
It's still fine.
If Superman comes out and eats it,
it's over.
It's over.
Like,
I don't give me a shit
about your other movies.
I don't care about Swamp thing.
I don't care about anything else
that you do.
If it's connected to your DCU
and your first movie is terrible,
and it bombs, it's over.
And he knows that.
He knows that.
So he putting everything into it.
And his casting is, he is a master of casting.
He really knows how to cast.
He doesn't cater to public opinion.
He does, he casts his movies to what fits the character the best.
And I applaud him for that because he did a great job in casting Superman legacy.
It's a fantastic cast.
So it's just the matter is, will it, will it deliver?
Let me ask him one question.
Because they came out reports last week about the valuation of Warner Brothers and that they are, there's a 60% chance that Warner Brothers will go bankrupt.
And this was under numerous, numerous signifiers and statistics.
And it was a very detailed exploration of the financial situation of Warner Brothers.
If Warner Brothers is sold in a year to Universal or somebody else, are we doing this dance all over again, brother?
Is this what happens?
I think it's the same conversation.
I think it's the same conversation we had not two minutes ago.
If Universal hypothetically buys Warner Brothers and are coming off of a $700 to a billion
dollar Superman movie, no, they're not replacing them.
They're bringing them over.
They're just bringing them over to do the job over there.
Now, same conversation.
Superman eats a pile of garbage and it's terrible and it doesn't do well critically.
It doesn't do well with the fans.
It doesn't do well with, you know, box office.
Then they buy it.
They go, no, let's just put this thing on the shelf.
We'll spend a couple of years rebuilding it.
So I don't know.
But what I do know is I see a ton of super chats coming in.
I thank you so much for it.
And just a reminder, people are like, hey, I've put it in the super chat and they haven't gotten to it.
We're going through all the topics.
And then once the topics over, I'm going to get to all of them.
So keep firing them in there.
And we'll get to every single one, promise.
All right.
Let's talk about some box office, John, because we got some stuff going down here over the weekend.
Where is it?
It's Mr. Wanka.
Wonka, there he is.
There he is.
Wonka, box office was sweeter than expected, coming in from Dark Horizons, Garth Franklin
over there, Timothy Shalame-led musical prequel, Wonka, scored an opening day domestic
gross of 14.4 million on Friday, leading to a revision of its opening weekend box office
projections.
Pegged at 35 million earlier this week, those numbers are now going up to 38 million, with some
suggesting as high as 40 million, which is a very promising start, helping things.
along is the solid A minus cinema score from general audiences with younger audiences giving it an A.
Its numbers are being boosted by a strong surge in young people with most ticket buyers 18 to 34.
It's a film that aims to stick around through the holidays and could have that staying power.
Coming in second will be the Hunger Games, songbirds and snakes, which continues its soft drop-off down 35% in its fifth week, further six million, a total of 145 million so far.
the acclaimed double Japanese sensations of Miyazaki's the boy in the Haran
and Toho's Godzilla minus one will battle it out for third with around 5 million each
yada yada yada okay so those are the big stories right there
there's a big stories I mean the rest of them you can go and look and box off
if you find out the rest of you look here um so yeah yeah look at walka to me you you saw it
right loved it you loved it okay i enjoyed the hell of that thing so it's the thing
I saw this report about it the other day and how they basically the studios know that they can't
market musicals because this movie was not marketed as a musical at all and basically what they said
they got to trick people to get them into the theater and that's what they did with this movie
because it was not I don't mind musicals you and I theater school together people may and I know that
together Florida State but I I like musicals I enjoyed I liked West Side story I understand why
they don't do well, but I was not expecting this to be a full-on musical.
And again, not to just kind of go over my same points.
I have my review up that I put up over the weekend.
But my point is that, and I saw somebody write this, and I think that they were joking,
because if not, they're watching a different movie.
I was like, the one thing that I, when I sell the out of the theater and I said,
well, the reason you have to, you have to compare this movie to the original,
uh, Wilder movie because it's connected to the original.
And it's connected through the score.
it's connected through the story it's telling.
And it's unlike, I didn't like the Tim Burton movie,
but it is doing its own thing.
And it's not trying to be that Gene Wilder movie.
It's trying to just be a separate Willy Wonka story.
And so I saw some guy comment and he's like,
what are you talking about?
This is in no way related to the 70s movie.
I'm like, what are you talking about?
It opens with the pure imagination score.
What are you talking about?
At the end of it, he sings it.
This movie doesn't have the edge of the 1970s movie.
It doesn't,
It's definitely more of a family musical.
And if you approach it that way and you watch it that way,
I think that you'll probably respond the way that you did,
where it's just a fun family musical film,
but it doesn't,
it's more cotton candy than it is like a prime rib.
Yeah, 100%.
And look,
that movie that came out in the 70s,
it came out with that point of view in the 70s
because we were in a shit ton of turmoil in the 70s, okay?
So this kind of stuff was happening all across the genres of,
films. Well, it's sunshine of rainbows today, my friend. No, I know I was going to say. But I think back
then, we were ready to have these battles and have these conversations and go to war in the
streets and go to war and all that kind of stuff. Nowadays, people are exhausted, man. People are
exhausted by all the political stuff. They're exhausted by all the battles and all the conversations
and all that stuff. So I think the studio rightly saw that. And we're like, let's not do a bitter walk
up from the beginning. We've got time to get there. Let's start out
Wanka here with a beautiful story connected with his mom, wants to establish himself.
And if they look at this as a trilogy or a series, then at some point we're going to get to
that moment where he's older and their stuff he's gone through because already throughout
the movie, he gets screwed over a few times.
He does, but he still keeps that naive thing.
Of course, yes, because he's young.
Because he's young.
Dude, this movie, this movie is a Muppet movie without the Muppets.
That's fair.
That's totally fair.
The exact tone of it, the villains are God awful.
Yeah.
God awful.
And He can Michael Keith June, so I don't know what he's doing.
I don't know what.
Oh, really?
Yeah, the New York accent.
That was he in New York accent in London.
Yeah.
Why is he that?
I mean, this isn't 1930s Brooklyn.
What was that choice?
Give it a chocolate.
It could have been a Paul King choice.
I don't know.
But there's, but again, like I said, I'm going to watch it with my kids.
And I bet you my kids love it.
So I see why it did well.
And then you go to the other movies to Hunger Games, though, man.
Like this is what I will say about Wanka and the Hunger Games is that it makes me hopeful for movies in the box off and everything, too.
As much as I loved seeing all the superhero movies and the fact that it was dominating for such a long time, I think people are starting to move on.
People are starting to move on and go, no, no, what else can I see in the theater now?
Because there is.
And what also is promising is that those movies, the budgets are significantly, they're not $250 million, $200 million, $200 million movies.
and that is what we need.
Like,
how much is Hunger Games cost?
80 million,
75 million,
that second one?
Or whatever,
whatever it was.
The fifth one,
I don't remember what the hell of this,
but the Hunger Games prequel,
it's like 75 of these fucking things,
but Hungry's prequel budget.
Yeah.
I'm going to see what the budget is.
It's $100 million.
And now that's it today,
that's not a big number.
No.
Not for,
the money that it made and it's doing,
you know,
it's like,
that's a good number for that movie.
And so that's a kind of,
and then you look,
look at like Godzilla.
Right.
You know, like that's, that, that's how I hope.
I hope, and I, I, I give too much credit to studio heads because I'm not going to take this.
Look at the freaking, look at what Godzilla did.
And I, I understand that Japan's dealing with different budgets and rules and unions.
I understand that.
But it's still, it's still 15 million.
Let's say it would cost $80 million to do here.
Okay, look at what the, the creator.
I think that's comparable.
80.
Yeah.
Yeah.
80.
Look at the creator.
The creator costs about $75, $80.
and it looked better.
It had better graphics than a lot of,
it had better graphics than the special effects in the flash.
I'll tell you that right now.
And like that's the kind of stuff that I wish would,
that they would take that note because that,
I mean,
yeah,
and maybe I'm in an artsy-fartsy mood too,
John,
because I seen,
I watched a lot of movies.
You know,
I just started watching last night,
fell asleep not because of the movie because I was exhausted.
Okay.
It was really enjoying the movie.
Was anatomy of a fall?
Yeah.
You seen it?
I'm pretty locked in.
Like I said, I was upset of myself that I fell asleep and had nothing to do with the movie.
I was, I was just tired.
I watched that.
I watched Niyadh.
Nyad was good.
Which is the movie with Jody Foster and Annette Benning about this Diane Nyad who is the, her story is fascinating.
And how that wasn't covered, like, I mean, I know it was covered, but like the fact that I didn't know about that story.
Did you know about it?
Yeah, well, because I was a watcher of Wild World of Sports.
So growing up with my dad.
So I knew about Diane Nyad for quite some time.
But the thing, I didn't keep track of the swim.
Like I remember the first attempt.
And then it just kind of faded mid-2000s when that's going on, 2010s.
So I didn't really pay attention to that as much at the time.
But yeah, it was great story.
Good performance.
Great direction, too.
But the one I want to do, I got to give myself a single in this one.
This one I got to talk about.
Please.
So last week, or maybe even been actually a couple weeks ago,
I said I started watching a movie and I said I was,
I was about 12, 13 minutes into it.
I was like, I gotta get off this artsy, fartsy shit.
It's like, it's not, it's not doing it for me.
It's this Oscar bait stuff, I'm out.
And I wouldn't mention what the movie was.
And people were like, what was it?
What was it?
Well, I can tell you now, and the reason I'm gonna tell you is another reveal in a second, it was poor things.
And, and I started to watch it and I was never, I was not a big fan of, um, the lobster, wasn't a big fan of killing the sacred deer, did like the favorite.
And so I was like, all right, you know what?
I'm gonna check it out.
I'm gonna watch it.
So in a turn of events, in a twist bigger than a six sense, I fucking love this movie.
I love this movie.
I love this movie.
I can believe it.
I couldn't believe it.
Like 15 minutes, I was like, I'm going to turn this piece of shit off.
And I'm 15 minutes into it.
And like, they're just doing this warped Edward Cissor Hands thing and Emma Stone's with this.
I don't know what else.
She is brilliant in the film.
And then Ruffalo shows up.
Next level.
This is Mark Ruffalo's best performance.
Mormons ever. Wow. Ever. He is I'm losing my mind with this guy laughing my ass off. This movie is
brilliant. It's brilliant. I love it. I can't. This is the one thing that I always, I've always said about
myself that I will never go into a movie even I'll go into a movie saying this movie looks like shit or I couldn't
but if it's not, I won't just shit even though I like it. It's good. It's really,
really good. And I was telling somebody one of our patrons on the finals, like, dude, I saw. I love these.
like, whoa, what a twist.
You said you hated this.
I thought I hated it.
And then I realized what it was.
It's so well shot.
The music's amazing.
She is absolutely deserves all the buzz,
but more people need to talk about Ruffalo.
Ruffalo is so good.
This is a movie's not for everybody, though.
It's fucking weird.
It's weird.
What's your ghost?
Of course it's weird.
All of these movies are.
The favorite was about the most
mainstream connectable film.
So it's no surprise that that's the one that kind of won
best picture and did all that stuff for Libby Coleman.
But like, yeah,
this one is out there.
Then I watched it based on your recommendation.
I went rewatched.
Did you watch it?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And so it's like, oh my God.
It was genius.
It was absolutely.
How funny is Ruffalo?
Yeah, Ruffalo is great.
And he's so good.
People are on the best supporting actress side of things and how great all the choices are.
I mean, as you watch more and more of these movies, the best supporting actor races, no slouch either.
Downy's probably the close to a lock that you're going to get.
Downy Gosling?
I mean, we both saw Iron Claw.
old McEleney should get nominated.
So that's the other one I was going to talk about as Iron Claw.
Yeah, like I,
but I don't think and I loved him in the movie.
Yeah, yeah.
If I'm ranking, I'm putting,
I'm putting Downey at 1 and Ruffalo right there.
Right.
Gossling, I thought, is fun.
You know, but I'm,
I also don't love that movie like everybody else.
So,
so it's like, you know, that I,
you know, I don't know.
He's really good in it.
But winning that, winning over those two guys,
that would be, that would be a crime for me.
because he's good
but it's, I don't know, not over those two guys
and Mark Ruffalo is just some of the shit
he says to some people
like the way he's
hilarious. There's one scene
where the doctor's coming at the end and he does
he does this one, I'm not going to ruin for anybody,
but he does something
and just so soft.
And he's so, he's so, his,
there's no fear in his performance
at all, at all. And I'm not
taking away from Emma Stone, like I said, Emma Stone
deserves every bit of
accolades that she's getting because she is absolutely brilliant in the film.
But no one's talking about Ruffalo and I think it's his best performance like ever.
So those are just a few of the things.
I think that's the majority of the big topics.
I want to make sure that we get, does I miss something?
Can I say one more thing about the box office?
I went to see the boy in the hair on, the Miyazaki film.
How was that?
How was that?
I really enjoyed it.
Let me tell you about my relationship with Miyazaki real quick.
It's not going to be long.
Miyazaki's films, for the most part, incredible films.
But for me, when it comes to his animation,
This is my typical thing with me as I.
Right, John, I got to cut you off.
Okay.
This just in from Variety, Marvel drops.
Didn't take long, did it?
No.
So let's let's talk about it.
Yeah, let's do that.
Anyway, go see the boy in the hair on, but go ahead, yes.
Yeah, we can, sorry, I don't mean to cut you off.
I just want to be sure that we cover this and follow up to it.
All right.
So let's, I'm going to bring this up here.
This is from Variety.
Okay, Jonathan Majors.
And it literally just broke two seconds ago, so I want to bring it out.
Yeah, yeah, it's in variety.
All right, I got it.
Here it is.
Okay.
Okay.
So Marvel Studios has parted ways with Jonathan Majors.
The actor is cast to play Kang, the central antagonist in the multiverse saga of the Marvel
Cinematic Universe after he was convicted on December 18.
of two misdemeanor counts of harassment and assault of Grace Jabari's ex-girlfriend.
A source close to the studio confirmed a decision to variety.
In the verdict, Majors was also found not guilty of one count of intentional assault
in the third degree and one count of aggravated harassment.
The second.
The actor was arrested on March 25th.
This goes back into the actual things.
I want to see what they say here.
Marvel's decision is severed ties with the actors register as the most high-profile
consequence of Majors' arrest to date.
He first played a version of Kang,
the 2021 series, Marvel established boundless versions of Kang across the multiverse and majors was meant to embody all of them, a premise that was first explored in Marvel's February feature release, Ant Man and Lost Quantumania.
The actors subsequently played a variant of Kang named Victor Timely in season two of Loki, and then they said Multiverse was supposed to, Kang dynasty was supposed to start in early 2024, shooting rather.
But Variety reported that in September, Marvel executives led by studio chief,
Kevin Feige, discussed the possibility of having to pivot away from Kang and focus on another major villain.
Now with Major's departure official,
Feige and his team have had some formidable creative decisions,
including whether to recast a new actor as Kang or cancel the Kang Dynasty outright
and reconfigure the remainder of the Multiverse saga.
The interconnected nature of the MCU means that whatever Marvel decides to do
could have some pricey consequences.
excuse me, have some pricey repercussions.
At a time when his parent company,
Disney has entered a far more cost-conscious era.
The career fallout for majors could be even more severe.
He began 2023 as one of the most in-demand actors with Creed 3.
And then, yeah, they just thought about his being dropped from the Disney searchlight film.
And yeah, that's it right now.
So, yeah, it looks like it's, that's exactly what happened, John.
I did not expect it to happen that fast.
Yeah.
Well, yeah, kind of.
I'm not surprised.
I think they've been making moves in anticipation of him being found guilty for the last few weeks.
And I think this having one screenwriter write both of the Secret Wars movie moving Dustin,
Destin, Dan, and I think they've been making moves.
And let me tell you something, when the charges were announced and remember his lawyer stepped forward and she was like saying,
no, it's not true, none of this is true.
I've got information, blah, blah, blah.
Well, then a few days passed and some more of that information came out from the prosecutor's
side of things, and his management dropped him, the movies dropped him, or the army, the army
dropped him.
All these things dropped Jonathan Majors, and that's when your team starts to drop you, it's
because they have access to information that no one else has.
You all sitting at home aren't going to have access to the information that these people
have through their connections in Hollywood.
would. That's how it works. And to me, that said to me that he was on the path to being found guilty.
And when he did, I know Marvel was already making plans. That Dr. Doom stuff didn't pop up out of nowhere.
People have connections. People know people. And so when that started becoming a thing, that to me,
that's their move. And do it now. Do it quick. Do it in the news cycle and then get over it.
That's what I said. It's like, you know, they're going to, there are people already just looking at the
comment section. People were saying that it's bullshit and they're not. And that, that's,
Marvel jumped and shouldn't have done it in this and that.
They're going to get that.
They're going to have that.
But eventually, if they kept them on, I don't think, I think it actually would probably
be worse for them as far as business-wise goes.
The other thing that I will say this, too.
And again, I'm also prefacing in the fact that I don't know all the details.
I'm just seeing what I see out there.
The other thing that was, to me, the most disturbing thing that I saw was some of those text
messages.
Yeah.
It just seems, and I'm not going to, I'm not going into the full judgment of all.
I'm just going to say that it just looks like the dude's got a lot going on in his mind right now.
And I think that maybe it could be a good thing that he's taken time away.
And it maybe, maybe mentally, you know, it's just not, he just needs a break.
So I do want to, but I do have a special guest who's going to come in,
text to me, and also hopefully people in the.
comment section is Walt too because we heard
you're we heard your point and I want to
bring in. I hope it's a black man. Is it a black
man? Oh, thank God.
No, no, no. We call
JTE. That's that's that's
he wasn't available.
JT. who was also Latino and nobody believes.
I know. I keep forgetting until you
guys tell me his full name,
not JTE. Then I'm like,
no. Nobody believes. I saw
somebody say that in the comments. Roka's not a person to call her.
What the parents are Bolivian immigrants.
You know, this is what he said. That's what he said.
They said, come on, Rooka's not Latino.
Rook is not Latino.
But never mind.
Well, Winston, so look, you text to me also as we were talking about going on.
First of all, as we talked about A, the verdict, B, Marvel dropping him.
What are your, what are your, so I watched the beginning of you guys.
So Marvel officially dropped him.
We just, we just covered.
That's why I sent you that, because when you texted me, we kind of stopped talking about it in general.
I figured you and I would just talk about it on Friday.
But then right as within the last five, ten minutes,
or start getting people telling me, hey, they dropped them.
So it happened.
Yeah, they officially dropped him right after the verdict.
So now hearing that, your kind of first reaction on all of it.
I mean, it's one of those situations, man, where like we talked about this on Friday.
If he was found innocent, then he deserved the opportunity to continue forward
and have his career go in the trajectory of this going, maybe slowed down.
a bit, but to be able to continue on the flip side, if he was found guilty, that this is a
situation where it would make sense for Disney to walk away from it.
And I think the thing that's interesting is knowing what specifically he was ultimately
found guilty for, and it was for the putting her back in the car part of it is what that part was.
And that's really because it's a criminal case, it's a harder burden of proof.
And that was really the only evidence that they physically had because the driver's account did not match hers.
It corroborated with what Jonathan was saying or what he was presenting.
And then, you know, the video, they show him running away.
But the only thing that they show of him being any form of aggressive is trying to put her back into the car.
So all that being said, I don't blame Marvel for doing this.
The only hypocrisy that I see a little bit is knowing that you have had situations where,
people have had domestic violence things on their record or, you know, hearing about the divorce
proceedings with Jeremy Renner and stuff like that and that being a potential thing and all that,
I think that this is a situation where why this is a little different.
Some people are going to go throw race into it.
You can make that argument one way or the other.
I think the other difference here on top of that is specifically Disney is already feeling like
they're in trouble with what's going on with the MCU.
You have a situation where you have a clean-out.
where you don't necessarily have to explain anything you have a criminal um verdict found as well
to be able to say okay we're just walking away from it and i think you're watching a situation where
understandably so because business is business they don't want any of the smoke that could potentially
come from keeping him on board um you know it makes more sense for them to walk away
i i do hate i hate i hate i hate the double standard i don't i don't love
the double standard that you still had Josh Brolin when he had something on his record you have
Jeremy Renner obviously both of those are just allegations they're not actual trials and all that but
you know what I'm saying like there is but I think that's it though Winston yeah I think that's it
though because I think when it comes down to it the allegations as opposed to be like what we did say
and you and I said this on Friday as well too Marvel didn't didn't fire him with allegations
they fired him after a jury had convicted him so the question is would they have and I don't
know. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not discrediting a double standard. I think that's very, yeah,
the movie happens all the time, but I'm just saying that it is, of course, would it
happen if Roland had a guilty verdict? Would it, would they have got rid of them? I don't know.
Maybe not. Right. And then the other, the other thing real quick, because a lot of people I do see in
the comments back and forth, they're like, what does race have to do with this to ignore the fact
that this is specifically a black man dating a white woman dealing with a domestic violence case and
also knowing from the standpoint when you have things like Emmett Till and everything else that have
gone on in this country to pretend like that doesn't have some sort of factor is to me a little bit
ignorant. Now, that is not the main focus of the case, but that doesn't mean that that's not something
that is still needing to be acknowledged because of what the optics of it look like regardless.
So, like, including in the fact that, you know, Jabari was brought in and arrested by the cops,
and then they decided not to pursue it. And they called her and asked and said, please come in. We're
going to do a formal arrest, but then we're not going to charge you. You know what I'm saying?
Like, there's little things here and there, even if that is,
standard procedure, people have to remember just like Disney waiting until the verdict came out
before they pulled the trigger because it sounds like they were already ready to be done with
this in the first place. There are still things known as optics and that's why people are getting
upset about stuff and understandably so. Like to act like that's not important to me is being
willfully ignorant. But I also want to say this and push back a little bit on what you were saying,
Winston, there's also stuff with Jonathan in his past that wasn't allowed to be talked about in the
courtroom, specifically a situation in London. So this wasn't like Jonathan had one fight with
his girlfriend and throw him in prison. No, there was multiple incidents, not just with her,
but with other people who came forward that was not allowed to be talked about in the courtroom.
So all these people going like, he's being railroaded, he's innocent, he's all this kind of stuff,
there's more here. Do the research. Don't just look at one thing, read it all. And yes, there are
things to point that it looks like a little bit like she's not 100% telling the truth possibly in
certain situations. He's not 100% telling the truth.
The situation situations. I think it's the other day.
She's a terrible relationship, a toxic relationship.
It was. It spilled out into the public, like Amber Hurd and Johnny Depp.
And this is where we're at now with the court case.
I think Johnny had been found guilty.
I think there'd be a whole other reaction to it with what happened in Virginia.
And because of what Amber and so they're able to minimize her at Aquaman too.
They, right. And in this situation, Marvel moves quick because look, and you're right, Winston.
Absolutely.
Because I said the same thing earlier.
it's a business decision.
And for them, the optics of it, all the look of it,
you talk about optics,
they're not going to stand behind a person
who's been convicted of sexually assaulting
and harassing a woman.
You can argue degrees all you want.
That's not going to matter for a business.
And all of you that don't have businesses
that are commenting in the chat,
you don't know what it's like to risk your livelihood
or to risk millions of dollars.
Especially when you're in a position of Marvel.
Especially when you're in Marvel's position right now,
everything's kind of going not great for them,
in the first place, right?
Right.
The point that John and I had brought up earlier is the fact that, like, yes,
you're going to have people who are going to say,
but it wasn't the major charges.
And there are other people who have, you know,
had gone through other things before.
So why didn't keep them along?
And that might happen for a little bit.
But as John pointed out, Deadpool is the first release that comes out.
And then there's like, no other movies until 2025.
So people will eventually say, okay,
either I got to stop watching Marvel or I got to move on with it as opposed to keeping him on
we will consistently be with you until he is with the the IP.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, I mean, we talked about this on Friday, man, that again, however, this ended up playing
one way or the other.
And I said that.
If he was found guilty of having done the stuff, then like, then the punishment should
fit and fit the crime.
And like truthfully, when we see sentencing, which isn't happening until February,
sounds like he probably won't see jail time he'll probably he'll probably end up with some
sort of deferred sentencing and all that including the fact that I guess with it being a lesser
charge he could face up to a year but if I had to guess it's probably not going to be that
but again being in that situation in general and that's the part that that effing sucks
especially with him being found guilty then you know shit it is what it is like you know what I'm
saying and and again it's funny listening to a lot of lawyers about the text
messages. The only reason that those were brought in was because of during cross-examination,
you were bringing up and you had a trail to say this is like a pattern of behavior with him
being up. So it had nothing to do specifically with this. And they would not have been allowed
to do it if it had not been for his own lawyer opening that door up and cross-examination.
So like it's it is one of those things where like, again, depending on how much you are
legitimately been paying attention to this whole thing, I was not going to be surprised whether
he got found not guilty or if he got found guilty.
Because there was a lot kind of going there.
And it really just was like, okay, well, what's the mind state of what were people going in?
And I know some people even asked, what was some of the makeup of the jury?
And there were actually, I want to say it was like 60% black.
If I remember correctly, it was like two black women, I think three and two black men, I believe.
And then two, a white woman and a white man, I think I don't fully remember.
But so it was also balanced in that regard to it.
So you know what I'm saying?
So like, I don't think, I don't think that any injustice was served here.
I just think that this whole thing has been very messy.
and as Roka said, this is a toxic relationship,
but these two did not need to be together.
Yeah, it's true.
I will say real quick, just Roka, you'd see-
I want to clarify.
I said, sexual assault.
It's assault and harassment.
I apologize.
I apologize.
I was going to spoke in that situation.
Okay.
Yeah, that's what I was going to bring up.
Just a little house cleaning there.
John just misspoke.
Okay, so Winston, thank you for joining us, my man.
We're going to get you back on Friday, me, you, and Koi.

You got to do multivitamins.
I can't.

I'm so excited for the opportunity for you guys to do that too.
And we're going to get to your questions in just a second here.
But I wanted to give John Roker a chance to let you guys know about what he's doing on his channel.
I'm so lucky to have John on the show.
We decided that we're going to be doing some more live streams together on Mondays.
And he is, he is graced, his presence today.
So, but John, what can you tell the people where can they find you?
What should they do?
Yeah, the hot mic.
You know, one of those shows that are out there with the geek buddies, the Jedi Way, my reviews, reactions, trailers, all of that living on the John Roca channel, the John Roka says.
You can go there to YouTube.com slash John Roker says.
It's the Outlaw Nation, but we'll be changing that over in the new year to be the John Roka channel overall.
So come and hang out with me and let's have some fun.
We tackle all these topics, get deep, you know, get people on to get crazy because we love to do that kind of stuff there on the Outlaw Nation channel for
and the John Roker channel in the future.
And my podcasts that I have, the Cinephiles,
the geek buddies, and the Hot Mike are all separate podcasts
that you can download and be a part of.
And speaking of the Hot Mike today later on at 4 p.m. PT,
Jeff Snyder and I are going to be doing our Hot Mike show,
which we'll eventually put the,
we're doing two weeks, two episodes a week.
The first episode has been happening earlier in the week.
Eventually, that's going to go behind a Patreon.
So we're just giving you guys a taste of what it's like to do the show twice a week.
One is segment-oriented, the other one's more news-based.
and so yeah come and join us 4 pt on the john roka channel all right so check out john on the channel
and uh let's get to your questions as i said we're going to go through all the superchats and we won't
leave until they're gone so start with the first ones from mike joyce always putting in his support
thank you mike mike mike's the best he's sending the super chats so roca doesn't yell at me
roka's not allowed to do that on my channel it's on his channel it's a little higher you got a
little higher for me to stop the only. No threat. No threats to the nice viewers. And like I said,
I saw so many of these things come in. So be patient with me as we go down the list. But I was so
excited. There's so many people that have joined the show. And hopefully for the first time we are
on Spotify and Apple and all that stuff too. So I'm trying to get all of these. This is the one thing
about doing it on stream route. I got to get a new system. But I am, I had a good down the line here.
You do it on stream here too, right?
What's that?
Just going down through the super chats.
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
I don't you do them, but you do them through, I guess you do them throughout the show.
I like to do them towards the end.
I feel like that way give them the own section.
But here's the, here's the second one.
Okay.
The very, very kind.
Oh, of course, it's first rate name.
First rate needs.
And I got your, I got your Amazon gift, by the way, my friend.
Thank you so much.
You are super, super, just super generous.
and I always, I'm always humbled by you, Nate, so thank you.
First rate, Nate, here.
I took my boys and one of their friends to see Wonka, and it was great.
Kids loved it, and I thought it was charming.
We had a smile the whole time.
And I think that that's the thing.
You go in with that kind of mindset to just want to watch a family film,
musical, and have a fun go.
I don't try to compare it or try to compare it at all to the edge of the first one.
I think you're going to feel the same way that you did, John, the same way that Nate did.
For sure.
I am, I am, well, yeah, I think, overall, I mean,
Wonka, do you think with,
you think they'll be doing a second one? Do you think they're going to want to do
this? You think so? As well as it's doing
financially, yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, I don't want to get into it, but yeah, as well as
it's doing financially, it's doing well.
And if you're trying to compare it to
another film, you don't understand box office.
What other, what other box of?
Do you really want me to go off on this?
I got, just real quick.
I got an itchy bone to pick.
And I'm starting to
really, itchy butt, yeah, I'm starting to lose
my mind at these the Marvels defenders who are taking every little thing and twisting it to
fit into whatever narrative and justice narrative they have about the movie the marvels cost
260 million dollars yeah that's what they're like saying why is it why is Willie why is the
walk of film not a flop would it 80 million it's a lower budget cost 80 or 90 million dollars and it's
well international it's already made 150 million internationally what are you talking about
There's something that drives me crazy.
I get injustice.
Certainly no one has banged the representation drum louder than me in this, in this sphere.
But there's also reality.
And if you don't cool good enough movie, people aren't going to go see it.
Okay.
And so you can't keep twisting and defending.
Like at some point they're becoming a cult where it's like,
and you're rolling a dice with this $200 million dollar budget.
You're rolling a dice.
Fast and Furious X, whatever it's called, fast X costs $380 million.
It made $800 million.
and it's still lost money.
It flopped.
Yeah, it didn't do well.
That's a crime.
It made $800 million and flopped.
That's a crime.
It's a crime.
What are you doing?
You're in a car.
You're bald.
What's the deal?
I mean, come on.
Anyway, all right.
They need to stop, man.
I'm with you.
I'm with you on the other.
Roman Fedorah.
What's up, Roman?
Hey, Christian, been a bit.
Happy to be back in the chat.
Happy to have you back.
I know you've briefly mentioned it,
but I wanted to know more of your thoughts on a holdover.
one of my favorites of the year.
Fantastic movie.
Loved it.
Absolutely loved it.
I thought it was,
Roke and I actually had a conversation
in the other day via text
about who we thought,
you talk about best supporting actress, right?
So there's also,
when it comes to color purple,
and then give me the actresses name in holdovers?
Divine Joy Randolph, yeah, yeah.
So good, dude.
She's my pick right now.
I got to, you know, look,
but like she is so good in that movie.
I loved, I really dug the holdovers
because it went in a direction that I was expecting yet not expecting at the same time,
if that makes sense.
Yeah.
I agree.
I really like it.
The only person challenging Killian Murphy is Paul Giammati, my opinion, for best actor.
Yeah.
He's so good.
I would not mind if either one of them wins because they're so good.
How about Alexander Payne getting not nominated in Golden Globes, right?
Yeah.
You brought that up, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
He'll get, I think he'll get nominated for the office.
Oscar though. Probably.
Okay. Jack Humphreys, what happens
to magazine dreams now?
What do you think?
When Disney Plus launches another
streaming service, it'll end up there.
I think they'll sell it. I think they'll try to sell it to someone else
to put it on Prime Video or to put it on one of these
other channels because it was very, very well received.
So it will find an audience, probably not as big
as it could have been through Disney, but I think they're going to
quietly sell that movie to someone else to have them
distribute it and what happens.
people yeah all right uh levi peglin problem is and this should make a difference but it does he's a big
guy and people will think of it in a more aggressive way because of that when it comes to the the
car video i think i think no yeah it's totally fair um okay i love ayesha so my favorites
christian rokey you know i love and respect you both why didn't trimmy renner and josh prohling
get the same thing that uh winston brought up renner was accused of trying to unlove his wife
of his wife and child.
So Aisha, it's the same point that I brought up to Winston, whether right or wrong,
the difference is that neither, as you said, accusations as opposed to a jury proven guilty.
Now, if we don't know, because it's hearsay at this point, if Brolin and Brenner would have
went on trial and proven guilty would it have been different, or vice versa, as Roaker brought up
before if they were just accusations on majors and he didn't go to trial, because I think that
that point might hold up a little bit more, you know, if it's like, well, wait a minute,
they got, because then if, let's say we go back to what Roka said before and he, it's just
accusations, he didn't, doesn't go to trial, it's accusations in general, and then Marvel
gets rid of him. Then it's like, wait a minute, the same thing happened to renter, the same thing
happened to Brolin, what are you doing? But those didn't go to trial and those didn't have a jury.
That's, that to me is the difference.
Yeah. And I also think divorce proceedings, people who've been through divorce proceedings know that it gets very hairy. People say some really crazy stuff about each other just to win the divorce proceedings because so much money as a stake and children are a stake, it's a different situation. And yeah, he went to trial. That puts the spotlight on it. And that's unfortunate what happens. But again, as always, Asia, thank you. She's absolutely one of the best. Okay. Next, Kevin Haynes. Kelvin,
excuse me Kelvin if Josh Boland Thanos can come back so can Jonathan but it's going to be years
from now should have stayed lovecraft country uh I think I mean look we we both said the same thing
it's going to be a while before he comes back because it's it's fresh in everyone's minds
so we also still don't know if um what the sentencing is going to be at all so it's it is going
to be a while but I agree I think that he can come back and I think we broke and I both said as
much as well too yeah um okay so in respect to asia cania correction runner's wife said he wanted to
right again it's his accusations and everything to as opposed to the the verdict itself but um but yes i um
i understand absolutely what you're saying um galliott productions honestly that whole beef between
t hr and gun was pretty weird what was the whole beef between t h r and gun i don't know i don't know
did gun call out so i don't know i must have missed something i'm not sure which one that was it
that older beef or something new.
I don't know.
He's beefed with a number of people since he took over.
That's the problem.
He'll go after everybody.
I mean,
he's on Twitter all the damn time.
It's when he's not on Twitter is when you think you probably true.
If someone,
if you say,
if there's like a casting thing and he doesn't respond to it,
then it's probably true.
Yeah,
yeah.
Simon section.
Must respect to you,
Mr. Roka and Steiner.
Steiner.
Am I Steiner?
Oh, Jeff.
I think he's trying to say Snyder.
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
Oh, I see, I see, I see.
Much respect to you.
And let's call him, Jeff, sign up.
For addressing a passing of gone too soon, Andre Brawer.
I was feeling down after the news after, excuse me,
and the day after I heard Iris from the Goo Goo Dolls,
if you've seen City of Angels, you know.
Well, first of all, Simon, thank you for your very generous super chat.
Very kind of you.
And yeah, it's always a bummer, you know,
it's like, especially when people go too soon,
it's like, it's, you just never, no matter.
And you get it, especially in our business, right?
Like we, it's it's like you wake up, you check a story and like, oh, no, that person's got it never, it never, it never, you never get used to it.
Nope.
You never get used to it.
Because you care about these people.
Yeah.
And the joy they brought you, you know, for so long.
Yeah.
It's true.
Yeah.
Pete Parker.
2.80.
Yeah.
Hey, guys, what are your thoughts on Reacher's Alan Rich as Batman?
Have either one of you seen Reacher?
The guy's huge and decent actor.
I think he's too big for Batman.
I think he's too big.
It's like who the hell's going to
who's going to mess with Bruce Wayne,
much less Batman.
You know what I mean?
It's like,
Dark Night Returns and size Batman.
This is the size of Batman with when you're dealing with the bridge.
Massive.
But he's not only just massive.
He's like,
he's super tall.
He's the perfect casting for Jack Reacher.
And I have seen.
I saw the first like three episodes of Jack Reacher and I really enjoyed it.
I want to get back into it.
But I did watch it.
Did you watch it?
Oh yeah.
Finished both seasons.
They're fantastic because I got the screeners ahead of time.
I'm through product video.
So I watch them.
It's great.
I love Allen Richardson.
It's a damn good series,
but I don't know that he is Batman necessarily acting.
So that's what I'll say.
That's what I'll say.
Oh,
what are you guys got to break something today?
So we watched Hot Mike later?
You know, maybe hot mic at 4 p.m.
We're definitely going to talk about it for sure.
Okay.
All right.
Mike Joyce.
Christian,
any plans to do a DCEU post-mortem with Roxy Kalinowski after Occamint 2 in a mini-DCE
movie news reunion?
I mean, something like as far as like just talking about all the movies that came out,
I mean, that could be something like when the last one finally comes out to do like a whole breakdown.
Maybe it's not a bad idea.
I'm glad I thought of it.
No, I'm just good.
No, it's a good idea, Mike.
I'll definitely, I'll talk about it with them for sure.
I haven't seen this guy in a while.
Where's there he is?
Trash Panda.
I think the safest movie for Marvel is to announce a Victor von Dumor origin film.
Script from Legion's Noah Halle existed during the Fox Acquisition.
Interesting.
shoehorned into the cap four reshoots.
I mean, it's, I can't ever, and this is a question that always comes up on like Star Wars, right?
I would love to see villain-led movies in Disney.
I'm never going to do it.
Now, will they do a villain-led series?
Better chance on TV to do a villain-led series than I see a villain-led movie because it's just too risky with the box office.
You know, it's like in WWE, the very, I mean, maybe it's different now, but back in the day,
the villain shirts didn't really sell the way that the baby face shirt sold.
I don't know, man.
I don't know.
I think I'd love to see that, especially depending on,
you've got to cast a big movie star for Doom now.
I mean, you have to.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know what, gosh,ling?
Gosselin's my number two.
Yeah, yeah.
Henry Cowell's my number one.
I think it is such an, it would be such a like Johnny Damon goes to the Yankees moment,
you know?
Campunk comes back to WW.
Yeah.
Well, you never went, but it's like it, but he's never been there.
It would be like if, when Sting came over to the WW.
Oh, I see what you're saying.
Oh, right.
You know what I mean?
It's like that he's never, never been there before.
He's never been to more.
And like he, and he's been in premieres and he's been to these things.
And like him showing up his doom, Henry Cavill announced his doom would blow the, the roof off the place, but they're never going to do it.
Gossling's a good choice, though.
Gosling's a good choice, obviously.
He's a major movie star, so.
Gosling and Killian Murphy are the two ones that I keep hearing.
I'm hearing that too and especially that.
Now, I like Killian Murphy a lot.
I mean, I think he's great.
My thing with Killian Murphy is, are they, you know,
is it one of these in the moment things where he's the guy right now
because he's probably going to win the Oscar and he was in Oppaheimert,
which almost spent a billion dollars.
It's a very popular movie.
But, you know, and I think he's one of the most talented actors out there.
Is he a major movie star though?
And I don't mean, he was not a Nolan movie,
but is he a major movie?
movie star and now the argument can be made well it's henry cavil a major movie star i think he has more
of a movie star look than than uh killiam murphy does um but i wouldn't bitch about it killing
murphy was was cast i just would i just think there's something because i remember secret wars i think
it was secret wars when doom took off the mask yeah in the comic books he's like a good looking guy
and not that killing murphy's not a good looking guy but he's not gossing or hen catherine
So I'm curious.
I don't know.
I'm very curious to see what happens there.
Johnny, thank you.
Johnny is very kind.
Johnny Van Johnson.
This situation is unfortunate.
It's clear that they both,
they,
excuse me,
they were both toxic and didn't need to be together.
Was majors manipulative,
probably a bit narcissistic?
Yes,
but abuser,
I'm not convinced.
His career is toast.
I happen to agree with all of that.
I don't agree with all of that.
I don't know all the details.
Yeah.
But he didn't,
but even Johnny,
said that didn't definitively say no he just said I'm not convinced I haven't the same way that
everybody else had maybe more people have paid attention to all of it from what I've heard it just as
you said seems like they're in a really bad relationship shit went down and it was handled
poorly and and so I so I don't know I don't know right but I mean the text messages where he's
threatening to kill himself I know I know there are he's got to go see people
He's got to go to mental health.
I have been there, and it's important to see somebody
and navigate and find out why you're having those feelings.
And too many people in the creative arts communities
are afraid to go to therapy because they think,
if they get it fixed, they won't be able to access those emotions
or those feelings or those things that inspire their work.
And they don't even think that it could actually make your work
even deeper and more richer to explore that.
Yeah.
Thank you, John.
Rene Reyes.
Majors runs away from his ex-girlfriend in a video,
and yet he's found guilty for assault and harassment.
I think there was more to it than just that video, though.
Like, again, I don't know.
I haven't seen everything,
but I don't know if you have followed up.
You very well might have.
But I don't know if you can just judge it off of that.
It doesn't seem like the jury judged it on clearly on just that footage.
Yeah, yeah.
So that's why, you know, it's not as easy to say,
I don't think because again I at least for me anyway because I just don't know all the facts
uh p parker 2288 what do you guys think of the horrible rebel moon reviews
senator has never been a favorite of critics but these reviews are brutal I'm trying to stay away
from the reviews because I'm so excited for the movie like I'm so excited for it John like it's
original it's original science fiction fantasy IP that he came up with from a star wars idea
I've loved the trailers I love Sophia Boutella I'm like I'm like
so on board with this movie.
And then I'm seeing these reviews.
I'm like, I can't.
I can't pay attention to it.
I just can't pay attention to it.
Because I'm going to grab some popcorn.
I'm going to turn on the stuff in my office.
I'm going to lock the door.
I'm not going to let anyone bother me.
And I'm just going to watch it.
And I really don't want to be,
because the audience reviews have been pretty good so far for those who have seen it.
Yeah.
No, I go, I see it tomorrow night.
I'm actually hosting a screening of it.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, at AMC Mission Valley.
If any of you who are watching or listening are in San
Diego AMC Mission Valley, DM me because I get to put some names down for free tickets to the
screening.
So yeah, 7 p.m. PT tomorrow night.
I can't wait to see it, brother.
I'm with you.
I'm ignoring all the reviews until I see it for myself.
I don't trust critics when it comes to Zach Snyder.
People just have this, people just have their nerd anger out for a guy who makes manly movies.
And so I don't, I don't listen to them.
I go and see it for myself and see if I like it.
And I'm hoping I like it.
I know JT's is the one that has me concerned.
The fact that he didn't like him.
Yeah, that bothers me.
So yeah, okay.
Open. Yeah, him and I are usually on the same.
Ah, ah, all right.
Corey M. Gunn said that Matt came to him to pitch the Arkham show to be in the DCU.
So I'm confused to what people's issues.
Marketing labeling will make clear what else worlds or in the DCU.
I don't disagree with you, Corey.
I mean, I understand that.
I just think that it's because Matt Reeves is doing the Batman over here and then he's doing this over here,
yet he pitched something to the DCU.
And it's like, I think it's more.
confusing to the people inside of the circle because it's like, okay, but is Matt Reeves connecting
his Batman? Is he going to, is the tone going to be similar? Is he not really even going to have
that much to do with it except like, here, just buy this pitch. And I'm just going to throw my name in it,
like Spielberg does the Transformers and just produce that way, and call me if he need me. Or is he
actually going to be involved and he's going to be consistent with the tone. I guess that's,
that's where the confusing element is for me, John. Well, I'll tell you what my issue is now. Why are you wasting
characters that you could be playing in another sandbox, why are you doing that twice?
Like, I get Joker, I get Batman, but if you start messing around with the Arkham,
you're talking about, Clayface you're talking about, Calderman, you're talking about all these.
So what are you going to do?
Make one villain that works for this universe and then one villain that works for another
universe.
Are you going to constantly do that with these villains?
This is where I think it gets dangerous.
And why I think it is confusion because it doesn't make sense to me creatively to do that.
With the Batman, fine.
That did well.
That's before I took over.
But other than that, I don't think any character should be created that you're going to use in your main DCU to be a part of, or a multiple character should be created to be part of Reeves's thing if you're going to redo them and recast them in your DCU.
Yeah, I think it was a different director.
If Reeves wasn't attached to it, they're like, oh, we're doing this and this is going to connect to the Batman universe.
You're like, well, inside the DCU, okay, cool, who's Batman?
We're going to show up.
But it's because we was already doing something there.
And it's like is it going to mess with his tone in the other movies?
That's where I get confused.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
All right.
Next one,
Drewby McCool.
What's up,
Drew?
I knew something was up when I saw an interview with majors talking about his cup and why he takes it everywhere he goes.
Actors are weird.
Yeah.
Yeah.
His cup?
We are weird.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, I mean, who knows?
I mean, it's definitely, I mean, I think people are weird.
Yeah.
Fair point.
People are weird.
Everybody.
is you see you see people who are around the camera you see more of them but like people are
fucking weird man you're right man people are people think they're normal and they're super fucking weird
yeah it's as much like here's here's the one thing that i will say you know regardless of what
you think about like louis k had come out over the last i like two years within the last year
and a half years i came out with a comedy special and you're allowed to think whatever you want to
think of louis k but he came out he said his bit was essentially along the lines of here's the thing
we all have weird shit the thing is you know my weird shit president obama knows my weird shit
it's like like that kind of stuff it's like he's you know he he's no one no one is saying
what he did was good not condoning it right no one's condoning any i'm just saying when it comes
to people are fucking bizarre yeah people are people are bizarre and people have people have their thing
people have their thing um all right was the was the was the was
What's the next one? Let's see. Did I miss one? I want to make sure that I got everything.
That was the last one there. That was, that wasn't the very last one, but that was, that was from Juby McCool. Okay. So the next one here coming up. And thank you guys. And like I said, we'll be here. We're doing these, well, I think we're almost done, but we'll be doing those as long as you guys are putting them in there. So if there's anything you want to ask John and I, please, please do.
Renair, Ress, how does Jonathan Majors come back from this with his career?
I mean, it's work, man.
You know, it's the most cliche answer I can give you is with work and with time.
Yeah.
And I'm going to add one more thing to this.
And listen, the black community of creatives takes care of its own.
And they understand if they feel someone has been railroaded or hasn't been treated well.
And I see some of you in the chat who said, like, this is wrong, it's incorrect.
I get it.
And it's totally fair to feel that way.
There are plenty of black creatives, directors, actors, producers who would be willing to work with Jonathan if they felt the same way.
So don't be surprised that we see him come back much quicker than you anticipate, but in smaller, more independent-based studio films as he builds his way back to getting back into the mainstream.
So I imagine that's what's going to happen there.
Yeah.
The great Tim Sim.
For Disney,
whose losses of over 1.3 billion in this year's films,
according to Dan Merle,
is what defines their 2023 instead of their 100th anniversary celebration.
Recasting Kang is inevitable.
Well, recasting him, interesting.
I mean, I don't know if they're going to recast this or move away.
I think they gave themselves a pretty clear out to just kind of get away from it
say the TVA kind of took care of him but who knows who knows um but that is a great point that
tim brings up though john 1.3 billion in losses um is what people are going to be talking about
instead of the fact that this is their 100 what a what a shitty 100th year i know overall with
everything that they've just been really bad um so yeah speaking to dan merle this i'm glad that you
brought up dan merle because this is last year john myself and dan merle we
did a show, a four big thing where for about two hours,
we just talked about all the best TV and movies that we enjoyed.
And it was a great format.
It was like we just kind of had a list that we put together.
We didn't necessarily get to everything we wanted to talk about,
but we talked about like, so we bounced back and forth and like,
okay, I'm going to start with a movie that I want to talk about out of our best list.
And I brought that up.
And we think Top Gun was the first one.
I think John actually brought it up first and it was Top Gun Maverick.
And we discussed that for like five or 10 minutes.
And then we moved to a TV show.
And so I asked the guys, because Dan's in Arkansas,
So we were talking about doing it.
We're going to do it on Streamyard,
but nonetheless, the three of us are going to do it again this year
and will probably air sometime next week.
But I'm so excited to do it again
because we had a great conversation,
and I can't wait to see the movies and TV shows
that we come up with, John.
Yeah, agreed.
There's so much fun last year.
And I get together with Dan way too often,
or way too little, rather.
And so it's nice to get together with him and you
and have fun bantering back and forth, you know,
because, yeah, I miss everybody.
This is going to be a good one.
This is going to be a good one.
Mike Joyce is Tommy DeVito's 15 minutes of fame up.
Also, I need 30 points from Brown Goddard tonight to win the first round of my fantasy playoffs.
Wish me luck.
Well, first of all, good luck.
Do you know, I hate to say this.
Do you know who Tommy DeVito reminds me of it?
I'm sure people have already said this.
Jersey's own Tommy DeVito.
Yeah.
Do you know what reminds me of?
Who tell me?
Jeremy Lynn.
Right?
Am I wrong?
Yeah.
Or Kevin Mott?
or Kevin Moss
You know
It's like it's like
Yeah
Like it's
I hope I'm wrong
And his dude
His agent is phenomenal
I mean that guy
Right out of a soprano's
Hey listen
I want you to
If this guy comes near you
Don't worry about the flag
From the ref
I'm gonna hit him in the leg
With a crow bar
That I got from Frankie
Working at the hot dog stand
I love those guys
You got inducted into the Italian
Hall of Fame, I think.
Yeah. It's incredible.
Kaiser Soz-e!
This is fantastic.
Wish we had Cat on UAP
Tuesday.
Yeah.
Riley and I, we do
our, we do our, we
actually record today on Monday,
so it's hard to do. Like, my only live show
is today. So, and I think it makes a little bit
more special now.
So, um.
But UAP stuff, you
sons of bitches have turned me on now.
I'm watching it all.
You start looking at stuff?
I was reading the Daily Beast all.
about it on Friday about what you were talking about with the the two sides coming
together to talk about and what's going on with this removal of language and also now I'm like
wait a bit more interesting see see it wasn't I we were it wasn't just because dude you
know why because before I start watching it I was like you was like oh okay like the ancient
aliens and the stuff okay good fun I hope I believe but when you really realize what's
going on it's weird it's weird yeah yeah yeah uh Jay Bratton
what's your thoughts on Robert Danny Jr. being allowed to star in Disney properties with a conviction and jail time versus Jonathan Majors.
It's different.
That was a kind of, I mean, with Downey, again, it was years later and it was also whether it was conviction.
I was with this, it was more like a self-harm thing.
Right.
It was drugs and weapons charges.
Yeah.
And it was also not easy for them to get him in that movie.
Favro, they would not insure it.
Favro had to fight to get him into that movie.
And it wasn't Disney.
The time was Paramount, I think.
Paramount, yeah, it was paramount.
So that was, it's a different situation.
Granted, still a conviction, but it's also drug addiction of someone who's kind of self-harming themselves.
Because very hard for that guy to get work in general of everything that he did.
He almost ruined his career with Ali McBeal.
He walked up the set.
So, yeah, different situations yet similar and understand why you would ask.
Yeah, but it's not one to one in terms of like the moment that it's all happening, right?
Like with Robert Downey Jr., he got convicted.
He got multiple chances, but eventually he crossed that line where it was too much.
He went, he got convicted, he went to jail, did the time, did all the therapy, did the rehab,
and then slowly worked his way back up.
This isn't, once Jonathan does that, guess what?
You can compare the two, and at that point you can look at it.
It's nowhere near the same situation because of the,
timing of it. It's not like he got convicted
and people like, here, be Iron Man. You know,
it wasn't like that at all. He had to work his way back.
It was a while. It was, it was
a while. Like I was, I was actually at Silver Pictures
when he got, um,
kiss kiss bang bang. That movie was not marketed by the studio
at all. They wanted to just kind of push it to this great
movie, push it to the side and he was,
he was having, he was hanging out at Silver like
all the time. He was to see him all the time and like
talked to him all the time. But he was, he was, he was
not. He was, he was, he was in the basement.
after his conviction he was in the basement he had to climb back up so it's more of a question of
you know after like let's say in that time period five 10 years and jonathan majors still can't get a job
and it's like well how come down he was able to get himself back and yet majors has cleaned himself
up and has done these different things and he can't get a job then i think there's a conversation
that definitely needs to be had yeah yeah um Travis nickerson i nominate alan
Rich for the next movie version of Aquaman.
He did good with the role that gave him in Smallville.
He's already blonde.
I mean, it's a jacked up Aquaman, but why not?
I love that idea.
Not a bad idea?
I love that idea.
Because Aquaman's going to do less, and you don't need him to do it.
That's what's great about him and Reacher.
Not a lot of talking.
It does just enough.
It's his presence.
It's his size.
And you want a badass Aquaman to, because Romo did that, to turn around the ideas of Aquaman from the comics.
He was good.
not a rich as it was good in in fast X too much it was yeah he was good man uh galagos what's up man
how are you awesome hey guys good catching your lives sending love and wishing you both happy
holidays you too your biggest surprise movie of the year cheers at poor things poor thing easy
i thought i thought i was going to hate that movie yeah it doesn't hate i love that movie it's easy
a spoiler it is in my top 10 wow it's in my top 10 i can't believe it can't believe it
Who are these, babe?
Yeah.
Shout to Gallego.
Congratulations what everything is going on in your life, brother.
You and Jen and everything.
It's a great stuff.
What's a surprise movie of the year, John?
I don't know.
What are some good movies?
I don't know.
Well, you tell me what did you thought was going to stink, and that was pretty good.
I know you love.
Oh, no.
I'll tell you what.
Surprise movie the year in reverse, Killers of the Flower Moon.
I thought I was going to love that movie.
I did not like the movie after the first time.
He didn't say surprise as far as good.
Yeah.
surprise. That was a massive surprise. I thought I was going to be number one on my list for the whole year.
And no. A lunatic comment of the day. Just hear me out. Ed Harris for Dune from PLD.
Maybe about 50 years ago. Happy belated birthday, Paul, by the way. But Jesus Christ. Ridiculous.
All right. Marcus Antonio Castile. Hey guys. Big supporters since collider pre-pidemic. Thanks, man.
Now Henry Cavill, as Dr. Dune, I've been saying for three years. Well, you and me both,
my friend and who can play
F4 Nova Mephisto and Galaxos.
Oh my God. I think that I know that
Javier Bardem was rumored for one of them, right?
Galactus, yeah, yeah. Was that you guys
that? Yeah, Jeff got that
from his sources and we talked about it a lot, Mike.
Jeff Snyder.
Calvin Patel.
I wonder if Marvel speeds up that
fantastic forecasting and drop the names now.
Yes, they will. You guarantee
it. You're going to start seeing a lot of positive
spin stories coming out from
Marvel really fast to get people talking about all the the big casting and they should now here's the
question no john because they're going to do now if they decide if they don't tim sim before said
that he thinks that they will cast recast gang no if they decide they're not going to and you're
going to really move forward with doom how far do we like are we going to get the doom casting soon
or do they want to wait because it's like oh wait you know oh it seems to
I don't know. It seems insane. I don't know what it is.
I don't think you follow a villain
removal with
a villain casting announcement.
I think you go fantastic for it to get
people excited and happy
and that it's locked down. It's
Pedro, Vanessa Kirby.
Is Pedro?
Is Pedro locked? They haven't announced that officially.
Yeah?
Ebhamaz Bacharach and
I can remember with the other person.
Oh, Johnny Quinn.
Johnny Quinn, yeah. So if they lock that down.
Joseph Quinn, sorry, sorry.
Yeah, if they lock Johnny Quest, hey, Joe, Joseph,
if they lock that down, then I think
people can get excited again, and then
you can do the Doom announcement or whatever.
But yeah, I think you've got to follow it
with heroes, because people are waiting for that.
Yeah, I understand that strategy.
Stella Justin Lopez,
Killian would be a great Doom, but has
gone on record saying he's not a fan of the MCU
movies, more a fan of what Nolan did with Batman.
Did you know that he was on?
Yeah.
Ethan Hawke said no tights, and
last I saw he was a villain in Moon Knight.
So give me a break.
And he also just said that he wants to be in a Star Wars.
Yeah.
So they all say everything until the offers on the table.
Then, oh, my God.
The Raven Effect.
What's up, man?
Thank you so much.
Hey, Christian.
Hey, John.
Happy Christmas to you both.
You too.
Watching your output this year,
Christian has lifted my spirits and entertaining.
Well, thank you so much.
You are a YouTube hero here in my house.
What plans you got for 2024?
Well, thank you.
I mean, quite a few, my friend.
Quite a few.
I mean, as far as personal, my goal is to, as I mentioned before,
when I'm going to move the family to New York,
I want to take them to New York and do, and I want to run the business out of New York,
and I want to be around family, and I want to do a lot of new things,
work with some people out in New York and things.
Was it that interesting?
No, no, no, not at all.
But I'll be back here doing Katie's show and doing more things and all that and continuing
on with what we're doing.
But I want to keep building the channel, and that's why I keep telling people.
If you're watching for the first time, please subscribe to the channel.
We want to get to 200,000 faster than we got to 100.
So that would be helpful.
So, yeah, we're just trying to build, man.
just that's that's that's kind of the goal so thank you and that's very kind very very kind yeah um okay
let's see let's go to the um next one it was very nice of you i appreciate that and i'm glad
i'm glad you guys i'm glad you guys saw killers of flower moon today incredible film
rock solid acting but it bombed is there still a place for old school cinema yeah but here's
a reason again this fits into and the reason this is the thing i john and i are on opposite
size of this film as far as our enjoyment of it. However, we're both on the same page.
This movie costs $200 million to make. So when it comes to old school cinema, old school
cinema in those kind of classic, classic films, they don't spend this kind of money.
Yeah. You got to, like, Killers of the Flower Moon in 1990 would have cost $40 million to make,
maybe 20. And it's, and I understand why there's a lot of these different locations of, you essentially
you made two movies. You made two movies for $100 million because it's a four-hour movie.
So that's why it bombed. It didn't just bomb because people don't want to sit in the theater
and I did. I'll say, like how much course says you more, but three hours and 45 minutes?
I mean, dude, I mean, what do you expect? But, and I'll say this, people sat in a theater for a billion
dollars for Oppenheimer for three hours multiple times. Three hours. Yeah, three hours, not three-45.
Yeah, three-firm. Well, I mean, Endgame made one point something billion.
But Endgame earned it all the way through because there's a story.
And it was like, but three hours, three hours, I mean, Avatar is like two, whatever it was.
345 is another episode of television.
It's true.
And this is very tough material.
And how many people want to go see this film multiple times, whereas other films like Oppenheimer or Endgame, people want to go back and see it multiple times.
We want to enjoy it.
This is a tough film.
Not a lot of people with all this going on in the world.
The last thing people want to do is go multiple times see a film like that.
Exactly right.
Talia Barless
Denzel for Kang. What an upgrade
that would be. I don't think
that Denzel would want to get
involved in this right now.
And for a lot of different reasons, but especially after
everything kind of with...
Let me put this out there, and this is a little
thing. Like, you, how many
black actors would be running to
replace Jonathan Majors? Because in a
way, you're tacitly endorsing his
removal by accepting the role.
And I don't think a lot of black actors do that,
which is why I don't think it's going to recast.
don't think they are either yeah uh Travis Nickerson here is an interesting idea
Jalil Wife for Kang T. Merkel first line after message was like did I do that?
Yeah I don't I don't I don't think they're going to do that I don't think they're
going to go down that route. Um I think I think that was it.
That's an old school schmos no question like late night question.
Yeah. Um, all right. I think that's it.
So guys, we did it. And, um, man. This was a, this was an epic show.
show, John.
Epic.
