We got a supersized show today.
Man, not only Oroka and I are going to be talking about the box office with Spider-Man, again, breaking records, getting closer to $2 billion.
Is this thing going to hit $3 billion?
We got so many other things to discuss on the show today.
We've got not only the stuff going on with Spider-Man.
You got Guardians of Galaxies, David.
Pista. He's talking about Star Wars. How about that? It's more X-Men news, a little bit more Marvel stuff.
We got Ellison over Paramount. He's doing some things. And Dwayne Johnson was talking about Moana and Black Adam and a few of the things that he would discuss with Kevin Hart.
So we're going to discuss all of that. Now, why are we a little early today? Why are we starting at 1130?
Well, my good buddy and former two-time movie trivia Shmowdown champion, Ethan Irwin, big time, producer.
He and his lovely wife, Meredith, they did a short called Tether.
Ming Now Wen does a voice in it.
They have other things going on in general, big things going on, but this short dropped.
So Ethan was like, hey, would you watch and check it out, let me know what you think.
I said, I'll do you want better?
Let's tell the audience about it.
I want to talk to big time in Meredith.
So I figure let's do that.
Let's start the show with me bringing on Ethan and Meredith,
and then we'll do our normal show that we always do.
But you guys love Ethan.
So let's talk to Ethan and Meredith.
Check it out.
All right, everybody, listen.
I get excited when I get to talk to talented people.
I get even more excited when I get to talk to talented people that I know
and that are friends of mine.
And unfortunately, Ethan's going to be here too.
but we have
Ethan Irwin,
Meredith Berg are joining me
and I have known
the two of these characters
for such a long time
and man,
not only are they just
a great couple in general.
They're so talented
and Ethan,
obviously you guys know
as much as I kid in the intro
has been one of my closest friends
and really when it comes to
his writing is brilliant,
his wit is unmatched
and his wife
just as much. I knew Meredith. I remember Meredith, remember we used to go to the, the SAG meetings together.
Yes. Yes. I don't remember what we learned. Nothing. We learned something. Yeah. I'm glad you guys
went though. That's great. Well, we did. But Meredith is a super talented director, producer,
and actress. And so she is doing this film, and they sent it my way. It's Tether.
And, man, let me tell you the premise in general so everybody knows. You can see it on YouTube. We're going to be talking about where you can
see it and all that. I have a link in the description. But I'm going to read out here what they say.
And it's on the first day of her job running a remote, isolated space station, Mickey receives
a mysterious transmission and must quickly unravel their meeting with the help of a passing spaceship
captain or an untold number of lives could be lost. And I watch this and I was engaged from the
beginning of this thing to the end of it. And I'm listening. I'm like, hey, wait a minute.
That's Sam Levine. I'm like, I know that voice. But Meredith, talk to me about like, first of all,
because I saw that, you know, you wrote this thing, you put it together, the idea comes from where.
Give me the breakdown of like the inception to making it happen.
Yeah, and I can give you, you know, long story short, medium long, extra long.
Feel free to tell me to go further.
Yeah, go forward.
Basically, I wrote a feature of Tether first.
And it was also a woman alone on a space station.
I would describe it more as dead calm in space.
Oh, yeah, it's great.
Yeah.
It's very fun.
And like, you know, just there's nowhere to run.
There's nowhere to hide.
You can't leave.
And that one is about a woman who takes on someone
onto a ship who has the mysterious past.
And I love this script so much, and I'm so excited to direct it.
And I knew if I took this out into the world, into the town,
the first thing I would hear is, have you done stunts before?
There's zero gravity stunts.
And I wanted to be able to show them I could.
So I thought to myself, okay, I wanted to do a short story
that's in the same world.
I didn't want to do like a scene from it or try and truncate it because that's often a mistake people make with proof of concept.
And so I thought of a whole new story where there's this woman and it's her first day instead of in the future she's been there for way too long.
So I thought about, you know, you're getting out there and you're like, okay, I'm going to do everything right and I know what I'm doing.
And I want to show that I can do this myself.
But the problem is the only way we can survive a terrible universe, anything that we start.
to do is with the help of others.
And so she really has to learn that that's the only way
that we can accomplish anything.
And that's about filmmaking too.
A hundred percent, you can see that in the story, right?
Or it's like, you can't, you might be like,
I know everything I get to know,
and I know exactly what I want to do.
It doesn't matter.
You will die.
You will die unless you have, like, you depend on others,
and they depend on you, and you work together as a team.
So it's very much like, that is, that is,
that theme applies to the story, but it also very much applies to how I feel about filmmaking.
Yeah, I mean, look, it also is in general that you, as much as we have ideas and we got to believe in ourselves and the things that we do and have confidence in ourselves,
in the positions at re-end, even maybe people, other people don't, you really can't do it alone.
You do need help, even if you have that drive, because you're not wrong in the fact you've got to have that belief in yourself.
And there's a great moment, I don't want to spoil it, but even at the very end of the, to where it leads up to it, people down.
her people doubting her and there's a nice little thing to where it's like yeah it's a
nod again i don't want to spoil anything i'll let people see it but eithen so what i always wondering
and you guys do it i don't know how you guys both do it because you've been doing it for so long
it is not easy to work with your spouse it's not i do i do reactions with my wife and that alone
is enough so and especially when it's like hey honey i got a great idea for for a thing and
luckily enough you have a wife that you're like oh yeah this is a great idea what if it stinks
He does tell me the stinks.
Yeah, but this clearly doesn't stink.
This is clearly really, really good, and you know, and you have confidence in it.
But tell me about, you know, when Meredith brings this to you, you're like, yeah, yeah, yeah, because you're the sci-fi world and that stuff that you live there.
You're really, you're talented in that side of producing this and helping her kind of bring this vision along.
So what, you were there from the beginning of knowing the script, the feature.
So what about your process through this thing?
Yeah, I mean, look, I, it is interesting, honestly.
being married to the writer and director.
But we always talk about this.
Some of the best kind of director, producer,
duos are married, like just for Nolan and the Thomas.
Right.
Like David Leach, Kelly McCormack,
you know, it actually is kind of two halves of the same brain.
So, you know, one of the things nice is,
yeah, one, she'd already written a really good feature version
of this that I really loved and wanted
to figure out a way to make and when sort of the opportunity presented itself where we could
make this short and you know make it in a way where we felt like it was actually going to not only
be a cool group of concept but just stand i think proud and apart and be its own entity and be
its own really great story its own kind of contained piece um yeah i really go through the learning
curve of it on a small scale of doing stunts and stuff like that yeah exactly and sort of just doing a
mini version of the feature that we're going to go make at some point. Yeah, it was it was great.
I thought it was a great idea to go do it. I was, you know, it came about. I think right at the
right time we were able to, you know, bring aboard some really wonderful behind-the-scenes
talent. And I will also say that, you know, one of the things that I have, you know, throughout
our career, she's produced stuff that I've written. I've produced stuff that she's written
and directed. There was a previous short she did the AFI DWW program that I produced. And I
actually learned a lot because I, as you and I know, Christian, you and I, we came up at silver
pictures. And obviously, that is a lot of creative producing. There's physical producing, but there's
a lot of creative producing. And so on the short, being able to like, aside from being, you know,
by normal, I sit behind the monitor and make phone calls producer, I also got to like drive the
equipment truck and I got to do the catering.
That's awesome.
I don't know people, but I, I had never, it was a great experience.
And looking back, even at the one we made at AFI a few years ago, you know, that was the
reason we decided we could get married.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And make this short.
And not kill each other.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That was, you know, that was a couple years ago.
So we knew that we could, we knew we could do it.
And so when she pitched me the concept of why don't we, why don't we make this as a short?
I was super stoked to do it.
It makes a lot of sense.
I don't know what I'd work with, honestly.
Yeah.
We'll say that again, Meredith.
I'm sorry.
There's no one else I'd rather work with, honestly.
Well, because like you just said, you've guys been doing it for so long.
You've known each other for so long.
You know how each other work.
It wasn't like, and that's the other thing that I should also bring up.
It's not like they were married for so long and then decided out of nowhere to start
working together.
They've been working together for a very long time through college now, and it just, it is
that perfect partnership.
So it makes a lot of sense.
But there's so many things that I want to ask you guys about the short because, Ethan, as you know,
and before we started recording, he asked me like why I was going to L.A.
And, you know, I'm working on the pilot that I sent you that you read and gave great notes to, by the way.
We're running our Kickstarter in September 4th.
So this is very inspiring when I watch this because as I hear Meredith talking about, she wrote the script.
And now she's like, well, you know, in order to show people, I know I can do this.
I know I can do a full thing.
Like, look.
And that is the power of where we are today.
what we're able to do. So my first question about this, Meredith, is like, and if you don't,
if you can't answer all these questions because you don't want to as far as numbers and stuff,
that's totally fine. But as far as budget went with this, I'm curious about what your budget was.
I'm curious about how you attained that budget. And I'm curious about how you,
Ming Na Wen, by the way, is the voice in this. I'm curious of how you guys approached her,
got her, because these are all things, not only the stuff that I am starting to work on and put
together. There are a lot of people that are doing this now, and I think this could be inspiring to them.
So I'm curious how your process was with that, Mary.
Oh, it's great question. And so a lot of things came together to do, to create luck. And, you know,
depending on the kindness of friends and strangers and all of it, just, you know, throw it in a soup,
and that's what you get. So we shot this actually during the strikes, the, about two years ago.
and we had a SAG short film agreement.
Oh, that's great.
Oh, my gosh.
That really helped with being able to hire all of our friends who were available.
Everyone was available.
No one could work.
And that afforded us the ability to be like, hey, I know it's SAG minimum and I know it's a short, but you want to come play.
And luckily, people were excited to work with us and everyone that we could ever want to have at the same time was free at the same time.
So, you know, we benefited all.
of these years as producers as well where Chelsea Stabelle was the costume designer who had worked on the nice guys with Ethan and
Mina Singh was the cinematographer. I met her through AFI and I adore her and that is sharp who did
the stuff coordinating and taught me everything about the zero gravity stunts he had worked on gravity
That's awesome.
We met it through people, you know,
stuff folks we met on like Sherlock Holmes
because he had done a little work on the Sherlock Holmes movies.
But yeah, you know, he was like,
he lives in Huntington Beach.
He's like, I'm around.
And we're like, what do you need to do this?
And he goes, oh, no, no, you cannot afford it.
I will bring it.
Isn't that great?
I mean, yes, it is.
It really is.
I always tell people that too.
And it's not, and look, and the three of us
can say this, too.
It's not the luxury that everybody does afford,
it can afford right now,
but meaning myself, Ethan, Meredith, we've worked in the business for a bit.
Ethan has been working in these kind of big movies.
He can make those kind of phone calls and you use the assets that you have available to.
Use what he have.
Yes.
And they did that.
And sometimes, like, do you have a location?
Do you have a house?
Do you have a farm?
Yep.
For a short film, I shot at my old high school, they let me shoot there for free.
And so I wrote a high school story because I knew I had this amazing location that was going to be a gift.
So, use what you have, lean into what you have.
The hardest thing about it was building a spaceship in four days.
In the entire movie, it was like four days of construction, two days of shoes, and then one day to tear it out town.
And literally the flats that we used to build it were borrowed.
They were borrowed from my friends storage.
I mean, a flat is a flat as a flat, right?
We don't need to build.
Also, this is something that's so wasteful about films is building these things and throwing them out.
It's like, no, just repaint it.
And we went to Burbank and we went to this.
this prop house that has sci-fi props and design elements from like probably
forbidden planet you know on yeah yeah movie TV shows like you know from
forever you'll see they have all like the stars of two first elements but like
you know we made a deal with other guys and rented some you know props to put
on the wall and you know the thing in that situation is you have this wealth of
of things you have to make sure that your your vision is going to be consistent and
clear and that you're you're connecting with
your production designer and you guys are clear about what you're picking and i wanted things
with color i wanted things that were tactile and with color things are like crunchy and and that she
could interact with buttons that you actually push um and and and and all those wonderful things
that are in there that make it feel kind of classic but also just feel more real um yeah yeah and you got
you have so it's funny because i just i don't know if you guys did you guys see iron lung
oh no we haven't so iron lung is the is that movie that markey plier just did
and you know i have those i've been using him and like obsession and um digital circus and
chris stuckman as examples of the things that i'm doing but one of one of the reason i bring up iron
lung is that as you said merritt the difference for me is that um your movie's colorful and i i
respond i respond to that i like the and i respond to science fiction but the similarity that i saw
as far as this and lock and that is that you really does have to rely yes you have great words
voice acting on with three different people throughout this short, but it relies and it's
Jeffrey Maya, I believe.
Jeffrey.
Jeffrey Meyer.
Okay, Jeffrey Maya.
And she really does have to engage you from the second it starts throughout the whole thing,
because, again, she's bouncing back and forth with other actors on voices.
And I don't even necessarily know if she was engaging with those performances or not, or
just maybe people were reading the lines out to her, but she did a phenomenal job as, as Mickey.
have to have her locked in.
So how do you find her?
Does she have difficulty with kind of at first kind of going through this same process
or did she just get it?
Oh my gosh, great question.
So we had two days to shoot.
This was shot in two days.
And basically the first half of every day was her on wires doing the zero gravity stunts
and the second half of every day was on the ground.
And so, you stunts ate up a lot of time as they do.
And so I knew we wouldn't have much.
And Jeffrey Maya is an absolutely incredible actress.
She was the star, at the time, she was a star of a major TV show
on the CW called All-American Homecoming.
And she had a theater back from.
I think one of her first roles was Nala in the touring company
of Lime King.
She was Baby Nala.
Oh, wow.
And so she has this great background.
And I said, OK, we're not going to have a lot of time on set.
I'm originally a theater director.
I directed off-Broadway in New York.
directed in the UK and I feel very comfortable working with actors to build the character and to
dive deep into script choices and actor choices. For me, that's a lot of fun of it too. So I said,
let's get this black box theater down the road. We're going to practice this like a one-woman show
because ultimately it's a one-woman show. It's her and voices and she has to make it real. So we spent
about two sessions of like three hours each just like doing the blocking and then asking the
questions, why is her character doing this, like what does she really want from this, why choose
this instead of this, how effective is she, how ineffective is she, and really her big arc
and how much she changes as a person, how much she grows as a person, it's like grow or die,
you know, in this story. And being able to practice it that way and really expand on it that
way, almost in a Sydney Lumet kind of way where he would do weeks of rehearsal like it was a play,
and then shoot the film.
And I was lucky enough that she was able to do that with me.
We could run it like a one-woman show in a black box by the end
by the time we were then, you know, training her on the wires.
So it was such a Herculean effort on her part,
not only because she had to learn wire stunts,
which she had never done,
and she had to learn that in about two days before we had the two days to shoot.
And she had this amazing trainer in Diz Sharp,
who is so wonderful with actors,
she trusted him completely and she was able to learn so much in two days from him and like the two days before that you locked down the show so it was it was really all about trying to get everything you can done before you know the day starts yeah and so obviously it it worked has a good rhythm to it it's never I mean I I would I'm telling you honestly there's never looking at it going this is because you anytime you watch something from your friends like oh my God please be good please be good because you don't want to lie to people
And it's like, and I'm like, okay, so the second it starts, I'm like, okay, they, they know why, I know why they reached out to me because I knew there was going, I was going to get this immediately. And, and I'm watching it going, this is really good. I'm engaged in from start to finish. I really like the music a lot. Music was super solid, had that, you know, you could feed, it, it felt relevant. I know that you mentioned that the one guy who had worked on gravity. It had the kind of that feel to me as well, too. Like, I felt like I was, I felt like I was in space.
I felt like I was there because the music is such an essence.
And it's, it's, Ethan, you know how much I, I've always been a music guy.
And I always, I used to have a lot.
And this was, you may actually remember.
It was, it was Freddie Weidman who, he, I'm saying, he goes by Frederick.
But he was, but he was.
But he's funny.
He worked, we worked with him back on some of like the early Dark Castle movies on, like,
Return House on a Hill.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Right.
He's got on to become like an Emmy winning composer.
He's awesome.
He's awesome.
He was nailed another.
He was so good.
Like, he's just a brilliant musician.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, he's amazing.
Yeah, so.
Oh, I definitely noticed it.
And Meredith, you know, it's funny because you say that, you know,
the script itself, the feature doesn't, um, it's, it's not her on the first day.
It's, it's like she's been there before.
And it's, and it's amazing that because as I'm watching, I'm like, this is really a great introduction to, like,
this character that's been there.
for like a backstory type thing and I'm like oh that's what this is is the back this is the back
this is the backstory to this character and her feature and you you feel it because it's like it is
like the first day of her being this captain and understanding this role and it it's it was yeah it was
really it made me want to see more of her as a kind of a grizzled you know captain down the
line or something you know yeah and it's like there's so many phases of of us you know going through a job
and you know like I
I just think a lot of what we talked about is I was like, this is someone who is 23.
Like, I remember 23 so well because you are at the top of the world you're leaving and you're at the bottom of the world you're entering.
And you have this insane confidence that does not match the level that you are starting at.
100%.
And you make your biggest mistakes at 23.
Yeah.
But you also are like with your most driven.
So we talked a lot about that being that and like just that part of your life cycle that I think a lot of us can relate to
Well, I think that was one of the things I liked about it too again. I don't want to give spoilers to it
It's just it was it was a vibe that you know anytime I watch anything now. I'm like I what's the dark ending? What's gonna happen? Who's gonna be a
You know who's gonna kill somebody who's gonna do this and I'm like this is a nice story
It's just a nice story about and you know it doesn't mean that there's not shitty stuff that happens in life that she's got to deal with you but yeah, but it's yeah
It's also cheap, but it's also like, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, um, future driven. It's hope driven.
Yeah. And it's already, listen, I, the other thing that I was really happy to see is that it's on YouTube right now.
And like I said, the link is in the description for you guys. Um, so it's already at the time you guys see is probably be over, but it's almost 80,000 views already.
It's got almost, it's got, um, shit, almost already 400 comments. It's got almost 5,000 likes.
it's doing really well and I hope that we can push it even further but um and by the way please everyone
if you see it please comment because I check and I love interacting with you the most fun thing about
having something on YouTube is that people interact like yes they can ask me a question I'll be like oh I'm so glad you're
asked here's here's the real story yeah she should 100% tell um both meredith and Ethan that you've
found the short from the show and and let them know but I'm not going to let you go that quick because
I said to them both, I'm like, it's amazing.
You guys are up so early to be this.
And I was like, wait a minute.
And then I realized I was looking at their Instagram account too.
You guys are working on something else right now.
And can you, I mean, it's on Instagram.
So can you talk about what about it?
Can I just go back briefly though in talking about your,
you know, may not when there's a voice in the film?
Yes, yes.
Yeah, please, please.
I literally just a cold call.
Like everything else in the movie had been like.
So you had never worked with her before, nothing.
no connection to her whatsoever.
Yeah.
Amazing.
But we love her because she was a voice in Mulana.
Oh, yeah.
Ethan, before, hold that story.
Do you know at that point in time that I probably had a stronger connection to her than you did from that?
Because she was, I was producing Katie Sackoff show and she was on Katie's show in 2023.
I could have made that call for you.
Oh, well, that was.
You didn't need my call.
You didn't need my call.
You have to use your friendships and do, like, abuse them.
But, you know, 100%.
So we're helping to help that person down the line.
Yeah, so please continue.
Continue.
I would say, but all the other ones that, you know,
everybody else involved in the film had been a friend and a friend.
I was just obviously Sam Levine, you know, you know, came in and, you know,
or people with known through the years.
But when it came to that role, it's a very pivotal voice role in the film.
And, you know, we've always, we've always loved Meg now and, you know.
It's my favorite Disney princess.
Yeah.
She's terrible.
And we were like, nobody being able to.
I should have thought of you, but nobody we knew had a connection to her.
And so I just picked up the phone and called her manager, and he was open to the idea.
She shared the film?
By that time, the movie had been shot.
We had a temp voice in there.
And Joe Russell, who plays the ship's voice, he was also a co-producer with us,
and he was on set, both being the ship.
And then when needed, we give her the Lingard, the Captain Lingard lines,
that she had something to play off of.
But we just had a temp in there when we gave it to her.
Yeah, but she watched it, liked it,
and then we, you know, when we recorded it with her,
it was tremendous.
And she was like, all I need in the room,
because we're like, what do you need?
You know, what's the writer, you know?
And she said, I see donuts, a banana, and throat coat tea.
I'm like, cool.
She's the coolest.
She really is the cool.
She gave in there for like two and a half hours,
did everything?
I left.
Yeah, it was great.
Sam Levine, obviously we just said, hey, hey, buddy, you're doing this.
And with him, we bribed him with brunch.
So I went over and we recorded it just, you know, in his house on his couch,
me making him, you know, more and more upset to get.
And he was getting hungrier and hungrier.
Grouchy Sam is definitely, you could hear Grouchy Sam in there.
You hear the desperation in his voice.
Yeah, it's like him challenging a question in Schmoda.
She said, I need a mosa to keep going.
And, yeah, and by the way, we talk about all these stories.
We were making little video clips of behind the scenes and interviews on
Burliam Ent is our YouTube channel.
So you can see him talking about recording it and stuff like that.
But the voice acting part of it, you know, came together and in little bits as you're doing post.
And every piece was magical.
Yeah, it was very good.
Yeah, it was cool.
So sometimes you just as look, as I'm sure you know, sometimes just picking up the phone, even though it's tough.
So, you know, it's like I'm constantly stranger.
It's scary to me.
That's why I'm asking somebody for something and that's true.
It's true.
You gotta take a shot at this.
Listen, Ethan, even, even, and not even necessarily strangers, right?
Because sometimes that might even be easier.
I had to make a phone call to someone I hadn't spoken to in almost 15 years with this script to say, look, I think you really respond to this.
And luckily they did, you know, and it's, you know, and it's, you know, and it's, you know,
It's, but it's like you gotta make, you got to try because it is always those things, you know, the classic, you always miss the shots you don't take.
Yeah.
And the worst thing that happens is they're like, nah, not for me.
You build it up in your mind like, oh, what if they do this, that now?
They'll be like, no, I don't know.
I'd rather give it a shot and say take a look or, you know, it didn't work out.
So that, I'm glad that it did.
As your listeners probably know, you guys both worked at Silver Pictures and something that Ethan repeats all.
time that Joel Silver would say is what is it you make a hundred calls a day and 99 of them are
no but you only need one yes yeah that's it that's true a hundred percent so um again so i'm not
going to let you up that that easy where you guys what are you doing and who's in it because i saw
your pictures we were just in malta and we just wrapped in action comedy being directed or
directed in now and post by david leach and starring jason stapham
called Jason Statham stole my bike.
Cause, yeah, it's a really fun action comedy.
And it's like, it's, it's, it's state them, you know, being Statham, but also,
in a way you've never seen him before.
He gets the joke.
He's so funny.
He's really funny.
He's been like he, like, and there's really, he's really, he's really good.
Yeah.
So this is a, this is a, this is.
And like Hannah Waddingham is.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
Who's in it?
So it's Hannah Warrington's Jason Statham.
Eddie Peng, who's a big Chinese star, you've got a...
Oh, my gosh, he's a big-ass villain in it.
Yeah, Daniel Inns, who is in 97 Kingdoms,
and he's just phenomenal in this film.
Oh, my God.
He's so much, like, just...
He brings so much to these small lines sometimes.
They're just...
You think of him as, like, this little moments,
and then he just brings all his personality
to every moment that he does.
Yeah, and then Arty Wilkinson Hut,
who played young Adam in Master of Music.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, so it's a great, it's a lot of fun.
We had a great time, and, you know, David Leach and Kelly McCormick of Mason and North,
and we produced it with them.
David directed it.
Yeah, so backing up a little bit.
We talked about how I've produced movies that he's written, he's produced stuff that I've made,
and we actually started our own company together with Tether, basically, Tether.
Hey, good job about bringing into the company.
Tether.
Tether is our, as our first production, you know, the short of Tether, and Jason Sade and Sade and Soul in My Vise.
is our first feature. So when we started our company, a friend of ours, Allison Flural,
she was telling me this idea. She told me the title, and I was like, sold on the title,
so long, sold on title, Allison. And she specced the idea. And she was just, she's so funny.
She worked on BoJack Horseman. She worked on Conan. She's actually brilliant. And we had a great
time, like, bringing this to life and then taking it to David. And then David Beach, he pitched it to
Jason and Jason got so excited about it and he had ideas for it and dated ideas for it and we
worked with Allison on incorporating all these things and luckily everyone was just viking so well
that when we turned in the draft it got dated immediately like Jason was like I'm doing this
in six months if we can do it and we pulled it all together right yeah yeah it's like in
the movie came together in like this past February that's right we shot in June we shot June which
is very fast that's very fast it's amazing though too and it'll come down next all
August, August 6th.
August 6th.
Okay, that was my next question.
Okay, I love that.
So you'll have to have you guys back on again to promote that when it comes in.
So I couldn't be happier for you guys.
This is amazing in so many different levels that you were able to do this.
The company is working the way it is.
He got this off the ground.
I am not going to be surprised when we're on again in about a year and a half for now
and talking about tether, that it's going to be a feature.
So, yeah, thank you for sending this to me.
Really appreciate it.
in the near future. There's a, there's a feature I'm about to direct that is a supernatural thriller.
And it will star Erica Alexander, who if you are a big fan of living single like I am, you'll remember her as mass.
Yeah, of course.
You know, she didn't get out, American fiction.
And yeah, yeah, yeah, it's a really great, it's a really great supernatural thriller that Mary Thornton directed and we're going to shoot it in like you on next year.
It's a bit darker than Tether, but, but Eric.
That's all right.
Those, like I said, those are working.
Those are weird right now.
It has a lot to say.
It's more like in the vein of like parasite.
Oh, that's great.
So, and I'm sure again, it's going to, I'm looking forward to all everything you guys are doing.
And I put to, I put the link of the, uh, the short in the description.
You check it out.
Also put some of the movie just stills and a couple things over while we were talking as well as those Instagram pictures that I, that I stole from the, the, the, uh, for the state of things.
So, uh, there you go, guys.
Appreciate it.
Um, and then, yeah.
We'll talk soon and hopefully next time I,
we're in the same city, wherever it is,
whether it be New York or L.A., we'll get together.
Great. Thank you so much.
All right. Thanks, guys.
I very do much love Kachava.
Very excited that Kachava is back on the show.
And man, was excited to see Ethan and Meredith
on the show. So we put the link in the description
for their movie, but someone who is very familiar with
Ethan Erwin, and of course, second he sees him,
so it's having flashbacks and starts screaming,
and rematch, rematch, is John Roker.
Where is he? There he is.
Where's equal time?
Where's equal time on this, on this damn program, equal time.
I got a film coming out, calling, don't call, don't bother.
Then I got a film coming out for God's sake.
What is that?
I'll put a film.
It's called, don't bother.
That's what it's called.
Don't bother, Ethan Irwin.
I'm coming for you.
I'm going to beat your ass once in for all.
And bring your wife, too.
She seems very much.
It's like you're just waking up in cold sweats, just like, he was your right well.
he was right no one intimidated me in the game more than he did not dan not Snyder not anybody
i just i would study so hard and still lose to him on these random questions that drove me nuts
you know when we played the yeah i really thought i was ready to beat him when we played the online
one right and then i missed that one question in the first round about universal monsters but i knew
I was right about and I just missed it.
Was that a title match?
Ended up fucking me up, huh?
Was that a title match?
Yeah, it was a title match.
It was a title match.
Yeah, I believe it was a title.
Yeah, I think it was the title match or number one contender match.
Okay.
Either one, yeah, it was number one contender because then he fought Dan.
Right, right.
That was an amazing match.
I remember you were champion going into Spectacular 3 after you beat Bibbiani.
It really was like the rocky clubber Lang moment.
Yeah.
The first fight.
You know, because I was like, because you know, everyone was like,
oh, it's going to be a close one.
And Ethan was just, he was a.
he was a bull. I couldn't rattle him.
He could not rattle to me.
I tried and he just be like,
whatever, man, I'm going to be on set with Robert Downey Jr.
You know, there still is, and I still have to see,
you know, when he won his first championship
against you, a couple of days later,
he sent me a pitcher, and I still haven't,
and we've never released it, and there's a picture of him and Downey,
and Downey is wearing the championship.
Get out of here. That's amazing.
Yeah. I mean, it doesn't top the rock wearing our belt.
but I think that's a good one.
It's good, but Downy had, Danny,
Danny has the old school, you know,
it was like the,
not the one that you have,
but the second iteration of the championship.
He's got,
Downy has it over his shoulder.
I got to see if he doesn't let me clear it to,
to finally show it.
Because it's just been,
it's,
I mean,
literally was shit,
seven years ago.
Anyway,
welcome back everybody.
Glad that everybody is back here today with me and John Roker.
We're going to be discussing.
And for people who don't know,
John Roka won again.
since you're talking about unbeatle he's like Ethan Irwin type stuff
John Roka wins again beating out Roxy Stryer last week
Um oh easy task
And now yeah now so John wins it again can he do it again this week
We Shall see
Um so yeah dude this weekend
I don't know what you end up getting yourself into it
I was um I went and I saw I was supposed to see Pop Patrol at a press screening
on with you know to take my little one with and yeah
So we're like getting ready to go.
My wife's like, ah, you know, she was, she's like,
I see you guys.
It's getting really hot.
I don't know if I want her walking around.
It's like a heat wave here.
She's like, I don't know if I want her walking around in the city right now.
And crazy here too, bro.
It's super hot here too.
It's crazy.
So like, I was, I said to my wife, I'm like, all right, well, she's like, you know,
she still hasn't seen minions.
And I'm like, I can see minions again.
I'm like, shit, I really wanted to get that done for work because I really wanted to check
out Paw Patrol.
But I'm like, all right, it's fine.
So we go and we check out the movies.
playing and luckily enough paw patrols doing special screenings this weekend all over the place so i was
able to stay where it was and i'm like let's get there's a there's a there's a theater that where campia
did his um his meet and greet i was like let's go it's a really nice theater so let's go there
so let's go there there's too much the parking's crazy and i found the screening and it was there
but it was sold out so they love going to this freaking theater it's like we call it the old
lady theater because it's something that was like literally plucked out of like the 90s this
thing. It's like they haven't updated shit
from the 90s.
And so they love going to this stupid thing because no one's
there. So sure is shit, this thing's playing
there. And there's seats
available. Any seat you want, you can get
because it's no one's going. I don't know.
It's a mob cover up.
It's got to be. I don't know. They're staying open.
We walk in, sure or shit,
these two old ladies go walking in right
before us, hold the door open for them,
let them in. They were very sweet.
My daughter gets herself
an icy, you get a
We sit down, you know, a couple of people scattering here and there.
And we watched the movie and it's, it's what you think it is.
She did the out of the theater with me.
We had fun with it.
But the reason I even bring this up is this theater.
I'm not even kidding you, John.
Like when you go to like the AMC and whether it's Times Square or Lincoln Center,
it's like these are like theaters you want to go to.
Like the huge displays and it looks like maybe the studios themselves came in and did this
and spent, you know, thousands of dollars.
to set everything.
You have these big,
like when you go to the arc light and things.
Yeah, yeah, of course.
So this theater,
as we're walking out,
I just stop and I start laughing.
And I go down to one knee laughing so hard.
My wife goes,
what are you doing?
I go,
look at that.
And there's a Spider-Man,
like balloon.
And it's like wrapped around
tape around the sign of it,
and just holding it up.
It's like, who?
Hey, we need some kind of decoration.
Where's Jerry?
I'm here.
Jerry, you want to put the Spider-Man thing up?
Not really.
Just do it, Jerry.
Come on.
All right.
There's some duct tape in the drawer.
What do we say?
What do we say?
Anybody corporate comes in.
First of all, corporate hasn't been here in 12 years.
Second of all, we'll tell them it's webbing.
It's like, I wish I'd have taken a picture.
I was so mad at myself, but I didn't take a picture.
It was amazing.
This balloon that looked like it was like at a four-year-old's birthday party.
It was so stupid.
It was so stupid.
I bet corporate didn't even set in the movie.
I bet they had to pay out of pocket, like at the local fucking party score.
Corporate doesn't even know that theater is still open.
Exactly.
It's a mistake.
90-year-old person.
It is such a disaster of a theater.
And my family loves it.
They love it because it's like a secret.
Nobody goes.
there.
Anyway.
Those those quaint ones.
Every good town has one.
They have those quaint little theaters.
You can go sneak off.
When I lived in,
when I lived in L.A.
in the valley,
there was one way deep in the valley
by what looked like
scranton office paper location.
And you could go in there.
And it was literally like a $2,
three dollars for a ticket.
There was no cushion on the seats anymore.
But you can get like a Nathan's hot dog.
And crushed ice drinks.
It was worth it.
For nothing.
That's the thing.
This place is a hot.
operating like it's, you know, like it's every other AMC, the same kind of prices and everything, too.
Oh, wow.
You actually pay me to go see a movie.
Exactly.
I'm telling you, ah, I'm so mad.
I, I am so tempted, because I know it's still, it's still up right now.
I'm so tempted to drive to that theater and take a picture of it just for this show.
It's, it is, dude, it is hilarious.
You should make it a quick video, like a social media video.
I really should have.
I just, it was the funniest thing I had seen.
I just was, I was cracking up.
Anyway, so speaking of Spider-Man, you and I have been talking about what this movie was going to do and what kind of drop it was going to have.
And I think the final number was in the high 40s or something like that, some crazy.
So we'll dive into the actual story itself.
Yeah.
I'm sorry, give me a second.
There we go.
I think I just get rid of this interview.
There we go.
All right.
So, I can put John back on there.
There we got John.
All right.
Great, great, great.
Okay, so let's get to Spider-Man box office.
And that's what we're going to dive into today because we've been discussing it.
It's a huge thing.
Spider-Man and the Odyssey box office.
Yeah, that's what the two old ladies were going to see, by the way.
And they walked in, I said, yeah, when they walked in, I said, you guys going to see Paul Patrol?
And she said, no, we're going to see the Odyssey.
And I said, oh, you'll like it.
Oh, you've seen it already?
I was like, yeah.
She's like, oh, okay, is it good?
I'm like, that's good.
Okay.
The box office is so hot right now, all down to two major features and one or two smaller films, even as everyone else is drowning.
First up, Sony, Spider-Man, brand-new day is continuing to do Avatar slash Avengers end-game level business.
Domestically, it took in a further $145 million this weekend, a drop of 60%.
60%.
Okay, not 40%.
That actually is less of a drop than no-way home experience in the second weekend five years ago.
The title's already at $655 million domestically.
10 days and still climbing. Overseas, the film pulled in a further $236 million for a global second
weekend haul of 381, a drop of 48%. There's where the 48% is. And it's just passed the 1 billion
mark in overseas markets alone. As such, by the end of Sunday, it should be a total of 1.6,
7, almost 1.7 billion. Nolan's the Odyssey, meanwhile, had a global fourth weekend of 110 million,
which is pretty crazy. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. With a further 30,000.
1.5 domestically and 79 overseas worldwide now it's a total of 1.1 making it the second
biggest R-rated movie ever behind Deadpool and Wolverine also becoming Nolan's highest grossing
movie ever overtaking the one point almost 1.1 of dark night rises not faring so well with
the newcomers I mean no shit. The rom meets the purge film one night only bomb on arrival
it's a streaming movie I mean this we'll talk about this in a second uh
A lot of people talk about the film, somewhat insane premise, no unmarried sex except for one night a year.
The film pulled in $5.7 million its opening weekend and concerning B plus cinema score, fearing worse, were Super Troopers 3 with 4 million, ice cream man with 2 million.
But how much the ice cream man cost?
35 cents?
Yeah.
That was to make.
Two shining lights were Anthony Burr named biopic Tony and the Gillian Anderson Slashire film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.
the opening theater average yeah yeah okay so i want to go to the box office numbers here too before we
okay have our conversation about it so again spider man brand new day at 1.6 almost 17 that'll
that'll that'll cross over today's number for sure odyssey again at one little over 1.1 as you see
the numbers there uh you know i'm trying to see it in generally i think that that's oh twist 3 5
not mentioned and now that's a little almost at 1.1 crawl pressed yeah crawled past 1 billion
But how about the fact, you would have, I would have told you, if you would have asked me,
and I probably did say this, I would have, if you said, what's going to make more money, the Odyssey of Toy Story 5,
I would have told you Toy Story 5.
In the long run.
Yeah.
In the long run, I would have told you to have shorter.
Pretty close right now, though.
Shorter, I'd never bet against the kids movies, ever, you know, but, you know, Odyssey is doing some big numbers.
But Spider-Man is, is the story.
and oh yeah man it's funny because i saw our good friend ed he said three is a reach but
three's not a reach at this point it's not a reach it's it's certainly possible yeah certainly
possible because it just now it really as you and i always talk about let's see what week two looks
like week two determined that this is going to hit two billion dollars i mean there's there's no doubt
about it it can probably make two billion before it even hits the weekend yeah or close to it yeah
the question is what does week three look like with no competition
right oak street oak tree is not i mean what's oak street
i'll take you know some money out of it but not nothing's not going to do that well
scratch yeah yeah so um i don't know what do you what do you what do you think about this overall
what do you think about these numbers and are you you shocked because remember one of the things
now what the one what the guy in the comment section was right about is like i said yeah what
this thing had like 29%
kind of drop off like Odyssey did.
He's like, that's impossible.
We're closer 70, 80.
Well, guess what?
On a worldwide, it was in the high 40s.
And it was 50s.
Even 50s crazy.
Well, guess it's crazy.
Because worldwide, yes, domestic, it was 60.
Even, that was even lower than your prediction there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But 40s, high 40s is unheard of on a worldwide for a movie of this big.
It's crazy.
Yeah, I think, you know, it's amazing.
It's the third highest second weekend.
of any film all time, right? Third highest, which is pretty amazing. And right now, looking at the
numbers from what I saw from a couple of these analysts, it's already $115 million domestically
ahead of where Force Awakens was at this time in its run. So it could break the Force Awakens record
domestically and hit that billion dollars by the time it's done. Right now, they're looking at
2.6, 2.7 is what they're saying. It's going to top
off at. But as you said, if there's not a lot, and we've been both saying this, if there's not a lot
of competition coming, I don't think Oak Street's going to give it a run for its money. I don't think
any of these films are going to give it a run for its money. And if Marvel is smart, if Disney is
smart, and right, they might get a bump out of D23. If Disney is smart, you like add some extra
footage. You release a little thing. I mean, oh, they'll do that again. I mean, that would be smart.
Dude, look at the only, the only movie that's going to give it any competition at all. Yeah.
in a big blockbuster budget kind of way
is the end game
re-release in September.
Yes, right.
Which is adding new footage.
That is going to make that movie
the first $3 billion move.
Right.
Officially, yeah, I guess.
That movie will be the first official
$3 billion movie with a caveat
and, you know, it's a Barry Bonds type win
because you got...
Grand Slam spread out over two seasons.
Because you also are adding new,
you're adding new things to it.
And you're adding your new way, you're not, it's not, it's not the same movie.
It's, you're adding new things to get people in there.
But a win's a win.
So you're going to get, Barry Bond still won a championship.
So he's, you're going to get the championship, uh, you get that ring.
But the crazy thing is, and I think this is highly unlikely, but possible.
Yeah.
There is a world where you could have three movies that come out in the same year that could
potentially cross three billion dollars in their run.
That'd be insane.
be insane. Right. That would be insane. It's insane. It's, it's highly unlikely.
But, but, but, but the stage is set for a possibility because if you, because like you said,
I think that you can guarantee what you just said. If this movie, Spider-Man, does reach the 2.7,
2.8 in its final run, you better bet your ass that when the next movie comes out,
they'll do like three movies in a row. You know, you, you know,
You can go see them in the theater.
This one's coming out now.
They're going to do what Avatar and Endgame did.
Avatar didn't get a full on win just by, you know, its initial run.
It was in the theater like two or three times.
Right, right, right, right.
I just think it's amazing.
And I'm so excited.
I might even go see it today when we're done again in 3D, which I have not seen in 3D.
So because we did our spoiler review on Geek Buddies yesterday.
It was a lot of fun breaking that thing down.
It made me fall back in love with the movie again.
and make me want to go see it again
because I enjoyed the experience so much.
So I think it's great how people are responding to it.
And it just shows like there is such a hunger for a film
that moves you like this,
that gives you hope that doesn't shy away
from some of the harder edges of life
and the emotional things we all go through
and speaks about it vulnerably
and shows it vulnerably
because we're all on a journey to try to be better people.
And I think the film by the,
end kind of lands there in the way Peter has changed and the way Frank has changed,
even in a little ways that MJ and Net have changed a little bit by being caught,
and certainly Gene Gray.
And so to me, that's a really fantastic energy to be out there on the heels of Project
Tale Mary, which was also film about like, you know, positively looking at a future, you know,
so I dig it.
I'd like to see more movies like that.
It would be nice to get some.
People are starved for it, dude.
Yeah.
We don't get, I mean, it almost is like what was going on.
in 77 when Star Wars came out, right?
It was all,
it was all apocalypse now and Chinatown and all these.
Probably those time I might have been afterwards.
I don't remember,
but it was,
but it was that kind of,
those kind of darker movies that were going on before and leading into,
well,
this, here's a movie.
It's,
but is it a fantasy movie?
And then everyone just,
it made you feel good.
And so that's kind of what is happening.
Now,
hopefully,
and more so as we move on,
although dooms,
probably going to be a little darker,
you know,
when that,
oh,
yeah,
right,
with what's going on.
Right. But yeah, you're right. Like Rocky Star Wars Superman. That was the threesome that kind of got us into the agent.
Yeah. Yeah. Hopefulness and climbing out of Vietnam and stuff. Yeah. 100%. That's right. Yeah, Rocky is a great example. The Rocky came out first. So absolutely. Absolutely.
Yeah. So look, this is our biggest conversations that we've been having about the box office winners. We're not going to really have any contenders until we start hitting the November, December area for more big movies. You know.
there's some of a few more um i think there's another
Pixar another disney movie coming out at the end of the year which should do
pretty well um
paul patrol will do numbers by the way
now not i mean numbers in the way i didn't even know this is apparently the third
one and i yeah and i had to have my eight-year-old tell me that when i was doing it i said
oh the second movie she goes no it's the third
and i was like oh um
there was a great moment in that in my out of the theater reaction the dude i go i was
like i said to her i'm like what did you think about the music i know you're
really excited about the backstreet boys and she goes
huh? I didn't know what the whole
Backstreet Boys were. It was hilarious.
What you mean? Who's you put
that's for the parents when the parents
take the... What are you talking about
Grandpa? The Backstreet Boys?
Yeah. I laugh though
every time I think of the Backstreet Boys
because, so you know, I used to tape
Katie's show, Katie Sackoff's show
at my old place in
LA. And we
had that and then in that whole neighborhood
there was like this fruit fly thing going on.
They were trying. We had to get like
that we had to get like these things that attracted these things to like to take them out in one area near the garbage
and it was my wife put up right near the trash and katie mclean are walking out
and they got blasted by these flies like you know it was like he bringing up every time it's
he was a nice guy by there but he's gone
flush just look like fucking pink pen with uh from the from the peanuts was like it was the best anyway
But they have a song in Paw Patrol.
Tell me why.
Tell me why are these flies all over the place.
Anyway.
So, box office, big box office this week.
Now what week three is going to look like is when we start.
That's going to be the conversation between you and I, by the thing.
Yeah.
It's going to be, yeah, you know, the three bill probably is way out of its.
Right now.
Maybe.
Right now it's right now it's in its path.
and it's shooting towards it.
If they didn't have had a second weekend like The Odyssey did,
I think in comparison,
comparable numbers,
I think I'd have been much more confident.
Right.
But probably 2.7 is probably where it is going to end up in the end.
Which is what I...
Still amazing.
100%.
This is what I said last week.
I said, if it's in the 49 to 50% area,
2.7 is possible and probable.
At 2.7,
but you have to have a 49% drop,
and that's exactly what they had,
which is still a massive thing.
But it is.
It's almost impossible.
for the amount of people who saw that movie in week one
to get into those high 20s like the Odyssey did.
Odyssey was one of those things where maybe people were on the fence about it
and then they heard how good it was and they went.
Nobody was on the fence about Spider-Man.
Remember we wanted to say week one.
Right.
And my brother finally saw Week 2.
He's like, that's an amazing movie.
That's a great movie.
I was like, yeah, he's like, I'm going to go see that again.
You know, it's crazy?
It's the lowest critic score of all the recent Spider-Man movies,
which is crazy.
I think that's contrarient.
Dude, I think that's contrarian stuff.
I really do.
Because the reason I say that for Rotten Tomatoes is because of the flawed system of
what Rotten Tomatoes is.
And I made this clear a thousand times over to where the audience is sick of hearing it,
but I have to make the point from what you brought up.
It's just that I understand if you like it less than maybe the other three.
But the way Rotten Tomatoes works is that in order for it to be at a rotten score or get a percentage down,
you have to see that movie an under three out of five.
I don't see how a professional critic scores at an under three out of five.
I can see like, you know what?
I liked it, but there's a lot of things.
It was a little overcrowded, but I'm going to go 3.2 out of five, which is still a fresh score.
I don't understand under three.
It does show the flawed system of Rontamance and it also shows contrarian shit.
I just don't get how, you know, someone says that.
I just, I mean, as far as when you're breaking a lit, I'm not telling you enjoyment of film.
I'm saying analytically, critically breaking that down.
I just don't understand it.
Yeah, David Erlick's review and Indy Wire and Rolling Stones review of it were not positive at all, like at all.
And I was just shocked reading their reviews going, how could you possibly feel this way about the movie?
But, you know, everyone's got their opinion, but their things.
Yeah, and David's a good critic.
I like David.
So, uh, but it was like surprising to see how he almost found no redeeming value in the movie, which I think is insane.
Right.
But I think it's sometimes sometimes I think it's, hey, there's so many positive reviews.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
My review is going to get buried.
If I throw a 2.9, it'll go rotten, and then someone will look at my stuff,
and maybe I have a couple more months of this outlet.
Yeah.
You know, it's like, I don't know.
I just, I don't, that system of the rotten tomatoes thing is just like,
I don't find it valuable, to be honest.
Anyway.
Yeah.
So let's move on.
We got some of, yeah.
Can I see one?
Yeah, of course.
Just for people who are getting out there, if Tony is showing in your area and your
city, go see it.
It's a really good interview.
You saw it.
Yeah, I've seen it twice now because
I saw the screening a few weeks ago and then I saw it
again recently. And I just got to tell
you guys, go see it. Because it's one of these
small like movies, but Dominic Sessa,
Amelia Jones, and Tony Van deris,
and Leo Woodall are all
really good. It's an unusual biopic,
but it's really interesting.
And it pulls no punches. It's that rare
biopic that shows you
this guy and the stuff he was going through as a young
man that led to him becoming this amazing.
an open and vulnerable
chef. Okay, that's good to know.
I'd recommend Tony. Yeah. Before we
actually move on, I forgot one of the things is that
we didn't talk about it, the movies that didn't do well, right?
Oh, yeah. Sure.
Look, that movie, the romantic comedy movie
that it came out? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, one night only?
One night only?
But it's not, but it's one of these
things where that to me
is the predictable failure.
Not that it wasn't good. I don't know, I didn't see the movie. I didn't go
and i missed the screening for it but you know i'm gonna go and i'll check it out with my wife and i'll see it
on streaming which is where i think that these kinds of movies and the other one like the the
the elire roth movie and what was it was and there was another movie there's those movies are small
it's right it's like i should have been streaming yeah this we're and the thing is you want to take
that shop he's like oh we did so well back in the day we're not in back in the day anymore yeah
yeah we're in a place where unless you're making these big huge movies or horror movies or something's
different or something that is really going to capture the audience and making an event because
obsession smaller movie yeah it became an event right and it was hitting toward and super true who super
trooper is going after 60 year olds you know right so it's like you're not going after the young
audience if you can go of the obsession went after the young audience backrooms right when after the
young audience you can't do that you got to go to streaming and make a streaming deal for those
things are you going to just wind up losing money on the marketing and everything else too and maybe
they took a shot with Eli Roths saying and I'm I got a I got a not real beef but Eli
Ross is and let's not make the YouTube a person uh you know let's not put them into the system yet
it's like like what your movies right now shouldn't be in the system yeah exactly everything you're
putting in is eating shit I almost tweeted that out of I literally wrote a tweet about that and
saved it and didn't put it out but I was going to say the same exact thing like you of all
people should not be worried about this or saying this stuff because somehow you're still getting
to make movies and your movies he's a very smart person he's a very smart dude and the way that he does
not in the not not from what he's doing and he's working in a different system and i the ironic thing
is if he was making movies today he would most likely be a youtube guy well and the way's coming
up today is he that's what i'm saying because he has that kind of brain so it was ironic that he was
kind of taking shots at and i i absolutely took uh offense to
it where like considering that we're doing what we're doing because the system is maneuvering in a
different way that we're that we can make it this way that it's it's like look i'm a big Howard
stern guy right yeah but stern was another guy that just couldn't hold on and and and accept that the
world was changing and instead of embracing the idea of what podcast did right yeah he started
shitting on it because he's like oh these aren't real radio people everything too when i was in radio
because it's I get it in the same way that when I look at stand-up comedy and I see clips of people just doing improv and I'm not first of all, Rick Ingram is an improv master, but he does it for a full hour, right?
These are the and where he comes up with bits. So that's not what I meant. I'm talking about when you just like do these social media improv clips to try to get you like it's all stand-up comedy is right now. And for for as far as as as far as what people think recognizable is when there's a real stand-up comedy.
And like it's not, that's not like what it was when I was, you couldn't let, there's no cameras in clubs or anything.
So I understand that holding on to what it used to be.
But I don't think that people should.
And I, but also understand that there's a place for those comedians because they've built an audience and people will go see them.
So people like a Matt Rife or whatever his name is like when, when they, when he built his whole thing on that, he's got a massive audience and he's built a career for himself.
Yeah.
That's what people want to see.
That's what they want to see.
And if that's how he made his move, then who am I to shit on the way they did it?
I don't necessarily feel that that's comedy to me, but good for him that that's how he did it.
I think what happens is the rebels become the establishment.
I mean, Stern was a rebel.
Remember, when he came along, everyone was like, that's not talk radio, that's, he's sexually exploiting women, he's doing this.
But he end up becoming the establishment.
And just like you see Bill Maher nowadays, bitching about George Lucas.
George Lucas.
Yeah, they all become the establishment.
and then they hate the young people coming through.
George Carlin is the rarity.
George Collin was always on the edge,
no matter how old he got and rarely went after the young people coming through.
No, he never took shots of young.
He was always willing to help.
And so you see, that's the difference in that.
You have to understand that, you know,
when that happens and you become the establishment going after the young people,
it's because you're feeling threatened just as the establishment did when you were coming to.
You have to be aware of that.
Yeah, and I think it's so frustrating to see that.
I agree with you 100%.
And the thing is, Eli is kind of dumb with this comment because YouTubers coming through,
ain't those bright, white-eyed, bright, you know, bright, like, what's going on here?
The younger generation is very aware of stuff that's going on.
They have an arrogance to them and a confidence to them that allows them to walk in any situation,
not be intimidated.
So, dude, even that.
You ain't got to worry about that.
You ain't got to worry.
Even the old, look, look at myself.
I'm not just a YouTuber.
I worked in the business.
I understand, like, you know, not only from the things that I,
I worked in before with, um, in Fendango or Clyder, but before that, with working in silver
pictures of Warner Brothers and, and doing the stuff over and, and for, um, when I was working for
Mike Fleiss's company and other things too, like, I've been in the system. I'm not like, I understand
how the things work and connections work and those things too. So it's, it's ignorant to just
call someone and say, well, don't put the YouTube people into the system. Why? What were you?
Yeah. What were you beforehand? If you were, if you, let's say he was working at a,
at a lumberyard before he made his first movie.
Well, don't put the people who work at lumberyards in the system.
Don't do that.
Don't start making that a thing.
It's silly.
Anyway,
he's out of the Tarantino school,
which is all the independent movie.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So what if you said that?
There's no different.
The independent movie directors come through.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah, yeah.
bullish.
Okay.
Anyway, we're moving.
That's more.
You know, D23 is coming out.
We got Chris Carr.
Are you going?
Are you going?
Oh, no.
I don't go to those things anymore, dude.
That's it for me.
That's it.
Yeah.
And I don't blame me.
Listen, I'm going to LA the day after or a couple days after D23.
So I'm not going to be there in time, but I would tell you, I would go to the D23 panel if I was there.
Because it's one of those things where when you're on the press list, you get the badge, you walk in, you sit down, you watch the event, you do your video, you take off.
Like that to me, I can still do that.
The whole hustle and bustle of the con and everything, too, I think is great for fans.
It's just not for me anymore.
I don't really give her shit about it anymore.
Right.
But there's a lot that's going to be going on.
And we've been rumoring or guessing or speculating about X-Men.
And now that all this X-Men talk is coming out with you, you obviously get the Emma Frost stuff.
You got the kid playing Cyclops.
You just get the rumors about who potentially Professor X could be.
So it's starting to get, you know, a little bit more realistic that they're going to announce the cast at D23.
So this is.
is one of the things that was reported.
The D-23 poster features X-Men Storm.
Will the reboots cast be announced on Friday?
Yeah.
That doesn't necessarily mean anything,
especially if there might be some X-Men comics and stuff coming out, too.
But we don't know.
Or this could be for X-Men 97, you know.
A new poster for next weekend's D-23 event in Anaheim, it is an Anaheim.
Okay, I'm so confused.
Oh, wait, no, no, no, never mind.
Never mind.
I was thinking because I was looking at Star Wars Celebration,
and that's going to be in L.A.
Right.
Next year.
Okay, D-23 takes place next week with the Disney Entertainment Showcase schedule for 7 p.m.
on Friday the 14th Marvel Studios will be part of the two-hour presentation.
7 p.m.
So that's, oh, it's going to be 10.
I think it's going to broadcast that or is it only going to be?
No, it's going to be.
I'll have to get updates from Chris and then probably put them on the channel when she's done.
Probably get her footage and edit it late, put it up.
Speculation that the mutant team will have a notable presence in Anaheim has increased with the reveal of a new poster for the event.
As you can see before, many iconic Disney franchises and characters are spotlighted, including Avatar, Frozen, Moana, Star Wars, the Simpsons, the Simpsons, the Simpsons, and Toy Story.
On the Marvel side, we have Spider-Man, Invisible Woman, and Storm.
Spider-Man remains one of the biggest merchandise sellers and has a significant presence at its theme parts in California and Patty.
Sue Storm's inclusion is certainly interesting,
but the presence of an iconic X-Man has everyone talking.
Storm's been being here could be a nod to X-Men 97.
I think that's exactly what it is,
or an acknowledgement that mutants are about to be a huge part of the MCU.
That could also be it.
However, there's a rumor swirl that the X-Men's reboot cast is being announced at D-23.
The Hollywood reporter has said fans should expect a banger of a reveal
at next week's D-23.
Aurora Monroe's appearance on this poster may be telling.
Okay. Interestingly enough, a popular theory amongst fans right now is that Storm won't be an X-Men.
Instead, she'll be introduced in Black Panther 3. I agree with that a thousand percent.
Later, joining the team in a sequel. That would be an effective reintroduction for the hero on a grand stage and make sense if Marvel Studios has a multi-year plan for mutants and there's no rush to assemble them.
I would actually say there's more primers on Thunderbolts because it was plugging into an existing arc with existing characters.
Whereas with X-Men, Kevin Feigy just wants to take a big swing and start anew and not be behold to any of the movies that have come before.
All right. That's really, there's a poster right there for, that's pretty cool.
That's pretty cool.
Yeah, that doesn't.
I mean, absolutely, I think what I read from that doesn't necessarily mean anything except X-Men are going to be a huge part moving forward.
Spider-Man is a massive part.
Fantastic four are going to have a big part in Doomsday.
And that, Storm represents both X-Men 97 plus that the X-Men are indeed coming soon.
But all that being said, I still think we're going to get a lot of announcements.
The question is, though, well, do you feel the same way that Storm is probably going to be announced?
It would make sense that she's announced in Black Panther 3.
Yes.
I think that makes sense for what we've seen over the last, you know, few months, this idea of kind of moving away from black characters leading things or whatever.
So I think announcing her in a Black Panther 3 black movie makes sense and then moving her into the X-Men down the road.
I think this idea that they all need to be announced in the X-Men movie is nonsense.
We just saw the X-Men get born in a Spider-Man movie.
So you have to spread it out so that we have like little surprises and little things to look forward to.
And then later down the road, okay, how is this person going to be in the next X-Men movie?
You have to build excitement.
So to me, it makes sense.
And if people have been clamoring for the storm,
T'Chala relationship for a long time.
So David Johnson might be starting this relationship with Storm in the movie.
I think so.
So that'll be a fun thing to look forward to.
So Luke just texted said that, you know,
the heavy rumor right now is that Jamie Lawson's going to be announced as Storm.
Or not announced, but she's the rumor to be to be.
Possibly.
Right.
Yeah.
Which would make a lot of sense.
She's hot right now.
she was great in sinners.
I thought she was good in running, man.
I just think she was miscast.
She was in five minutes of the movie.
Yeah, she miscast isn't the right word.
Her and,
and Powell had no chemistry whatsoever,
but that necessarily wasn't her fault.
She was,
for what she was in the movie,
it was fine.
I think she's really good.
I'd like to see her being more stuff.
And I think she's perfect for Storm,
if they cast her for Storm.
So that would be good casting.
But I do think,
this is what I think could happen,
because I think,
think that Sadie Sink will be there. I think she's going to be there. I think that this kid that for,
that just got announced or rumored or whatever, pretty much. Oh, Kit Carter. Yeah.
For X. For a cyclops. I think he's going to be announced as well. Right. I think that they're
going to take the core people who the, I think you're 100% right. And I was living in the old
school way of thinking last week because I saw Snyder's report that don't expect rogue to even be in
this movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I, and at first time, like, what do you mean? You got to put rogue in it. I was like,
well, no. And people made it clear.
She wasn't in the initial run of X-Men.
When you go back into the initial run,
she didn't show up for a little bit.
And neither did Wolverine, these other,
and these other characters really rely
on the X-Men and Cyclops and Gene.
And I had been hearing that, and I reported that,
that this is going to be a Cyclops movie
focused feature.
And it'll probably be him and Gene Gray.
Yeah. But that's going to focus on them.
It's going to focus.
And now her coming off of a $2 billion movie, more people there go, oh, what's she up to next?
Right.
Right.
So you don't need, you can start to sprinkle in the X-Men down into the sequels and everything to, but by now, but I do think they'll announce storm.
I think they'll announce storm.
Yeah.
Oh, no.
I won't be surprised by that.
Because they're going to talk more about Black Panther 3.
Yep.
And I think that, um, that David Johnson will be there.
And then they're going to in the same way that when Claw showed up in, uh, Ultron.
that set him up when they showed him and he show any circus shows up in that one and then it has more of an impact when he shows up in black panther right i think they're going to do the same thing with storm yeah 100% yeah and i think we'll see this with certain x-men as we go into this phase of the mutant saga we'll see them pop up in different films and different things and then find their way to the next x-men movie because there'll probably be a trilogy of x-men movies
And I agree with what you're saying here earlier because like Sadie Sink keeps saying that her and Jake Shry are having constant conversations about the X-Men movie and her and Gene's role.
It's not a coincidence that they've launched with her.
They want to make her a pillar of this X-Men movie and as you said and Kit Conner possibly as well.
And if we get Charles Melton as Beast being announced.
And then THR essentially is going to I said this like that Pelfrey and Christopher Abbott auditioned.
but Pelfrey didn't get it.
So they didn't say Christopher Abbott is going to be Professor X.
They just said both of them auditioned, but Pelfrey didn't get it.
So they're kind of walking around or dancing around this idea before they can officially announce it,
maybe that Christopher Abbott might be playing Professor X.
So that's going to be interesting.
That'd be cool.
That as well.
I liked him in Wolfman.
I don't think that film wasn't great, but I thought he was good.
He's always good.
That movie was the shit.
And poor things.
Right?
In poor things.
He was good and poor things.
Yeah, he certainly was.
Yeah, he was, he was, he's good.
I like him.
And they, you just had a baby.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So we'll see like if it's going to be a full cat.
Do you think it would be a full cast?
No, not a full cast because I don't, I think,
I think that they're going to like, like they said in that report,
I think they're going to make it very clear that they're not just going to do.
Here's every single X-Men that you guys know.
Here's Gambit.
Here's this for his nightcrawler.
Here's everybody.
I think it's a smart play because that's what we're, that's what we're just accustomed to
because the old movies are like, okay, we're going to get everybody,
even though you didn't get Nightcrawler, Jax too, but you know what I mean?
Like you're just used to all the big characters.
You don't really need them now to do it.
If you're going to build off the X-Men and you're going to do two, three, four, five movies,
it's such a rich lore that you can keep put new people and new villains in it into movies
and really rely on it because my brother wrote back after he saw Spider-Man.
I think Marvel's back after this.
I was like, they're poised.
They're poised.
It's a Marvel Sodi, you know, Cabo.
Right.
But there are storylines now.
They seem to have a plan.
This is why I know you and I are going to have probably a major, major disagreement on,
but I don't want to get into it right now.
Okay.
Because I do see, I do understand, Winston and I talked about it.
I do understand at first glance how when these shows like Wonder Man and Ironheart and these things,
to where you can say, that's a little curious that there,
that they're, you know, cutting all these shows with black leads, right?
I get it.
I get how you can go that way.
My pushback on it is, you know, it's not the whole, the easy one of it.
Well, they're making Black Panther three.
Of course, there is a, it's a token thing.
Well, it's not just a token thing.
It also made, it made a lot of money and the business side of it, which is kind of my
overall point, right?
When both Ironheart and Wonder Man were greenlit, both of those shows, as well as some of
these other shows too that were greenlit outside of secret wars these other things they were in a
time period when marvel was throwing everything against the wall and they were doing all these
different shows and all these different things and the plan they had no plan they were going to do
the kang dynasty they didn't know what they were doing they didn't know when they were going to make
the movie they have a plan now and then the guy who's show running it just made a almost a two or three
billion-dollar movie that's coming out. So and Marvel has also made a lot of of choices to make sure
that they were being inclusive and everything throughout the years. I don't think we would argue that.
What they need to do, and especially with their casting inside of X-Men and everything else to,
is shut people up and say, we're being, we're still, are, we're being inclusive, we're doing these
X-Men, if anything called for it, the whole point of the X-Men is this idea that there's so many
people that are these people who are different are being shun out.
Sure.
But if you're using white people as your vehicle to show that, which is what the
predominant cast looks like, that's an issue.
Well, we're talking storm.
We're talking other people.
Storm is not going to be in the X-Men.
You don't know that yet.
I'm just telling you in a long run, in the long run.
Yeah.
In the long run, you got to, like I would just say, let's see how it pans out.
I'm not saying that people shouldn't have their ears up and going, wait a minute.
But to call it right away,
I don't know because of the plan
and you had different leadership going,
look, if you're not making money or ratings,
look, Wonder Man was a good show.
It was a real good show.
And he was nominated and other things too.
But it didn't do great in the ratings.
I don't know.
They didn't release.
One of the episodes broke through the top 10
Nielsen ratings.
So at least one of the episodes broke through.
But I don't know what the numbers are.
So you could be right,
that the ratings weren't great, or it could be true that
the ratings were good, just not... Could be.
Maybe it just doesn't fit the Nielsen.
Yeah, and maybe just that didn't ultimately fit their
plan of where they wanted, what they wanted to do.
I think that's more the truth.
Yeah. That they don't want to go forward with
TV shows at the numbers
that they did.
But I think it's quizzical
that you have a director
coming off a, as you said, two to three
billion dollar movie who has said
publicly, I cleared my schedule.
I was ready to do
season two of Wonder Man
and the showrunner coming out
doing an Instagram video saying
everybody was on board. We were starting to write already.
It was ready to go and they shut it down.
But it seems like Josh DeMorrow is like
I don't want to do the, I only want to do
occasional TV shows and what have you.
So I think it's more about,
it got caught in the grind of the change of a corporation.
I think that's part of it.
And also in the Destin Daniel Creighton aspect of it, right?
Right.
Let's say 100% that what you're saying is
what is factual, right?
That he said, I'm available.
If I'm Sony, I'm going, he's doing
what now? He's got
Naruto or whatever he's doing
on the side, and he's going to do Wonder Man?
Right. Well, when are we going to
have him to do Spider-Man 5?
Well, we'll have him after that's all wrapped.
Fuck that. Do we
need that show? Not really.
You could see that conversation happen.
No, of course. If that conversation happened, you would
agree that the priority would be
Spider-Man 5.
Right, of course.
No, no, of course.
But the thing is you have to, the thing with all of this and is, it just is not, it doesn't
look good right now.
I don't disagree with that.
I don't disagree with that.
And I think that's what they're going to have to work hard towards.
Yes.
Like, you know, kind of saying like, trust us.
We are still going to be.
Because I think.
100%.
Absolutely inclusive.
He supports being inclusive.
I know he does.
Yeah.
So it's a matter of like, okay, how are we going to make that work in this new phase?
Be a little patient.
Give us some time to set this up.
And we'll, we'll see where we go from here.
So that's what I think I couldn't agree with you more on that.
I'm hoping that's what happens.
Optics wise is Winston was saying to.
No,
it doesn't look great.
But I think that you also had to have that conversation and understand it.
And I think,
Fagie,
100% will probably have to say,
look,
this ain't going to look good.
We've got to show down the line that, you know,
this is because people will,
right now people will call it and go,
hey,
and it's like,
okay.
Now you got this coming out.
You got this coming out.
You did this.
People forget and forgive pretty quick,
but they also get mad pretty quick, too.
Yeah.
And I don't think these things,
these projects weren't like just,
didn't have a chance for a number of reasons, right?
Like Falcon and Winter Soldier, that was truncated by the COVID situation in the strikes.
Then they rejiggered Captain America for so many times.
It just became a mess of a movie.
And so there are so many of these situations that, unfortunately, by outside factors
or by the creatives, they got involved, didn't deliver good projects, good results,
which is why the Wonder Man thing upset so many people,
because that's legitimately a damn good series with a good lead well written well constructed and
unfortunately it get caught in the cognition of a corporation changing its approach so right
look ratings and everything too and i think that you're probably only going to see like one
show for marvel a year and there's this other thing there's this special presentations i think
is a way that they should go more so than the series i think that what they did with punisher
i think that what they did with uh werewolf by night i think that what they're doing with this other
detective thing we're not can get into that though because we have other things
before we get into the questions.
But I want to get into,
I want to get into these other things here too.
And I think that there's two, yeah,
let's talk about this one first and we'll end
with the, with the Dwayne Johnson story.
Because that one, DJ.
I'm very curious where you're going to go.
You've seen those comments that he's made about both Black Adam and Moana.
I saw the Moana was.
I haven't seen the Black Adam was.
So this will be fun.
All right, we'll go into that.
We'll go into that a little bit.
But let's,
start let's start with this one and this is indeed now we paramount is looking to try to get that
warner-brose thing done man paramount ellison sets a 90 movie agreement 90 move not so davidelsons paramount
skydance has been wooing exhibitors lately as the heads of two of them i can't believe i used to
eat subway as much as i did terrible for you anyway um oh i guess i'm not going to be a sponsor
AMC and Regal have penned glowing endorsements in the media of the company's proposed 110 billion Warner Brothers Discovery Takeover.
Now Bloomberg, what the hell is wrong?
My dad is going back.
He's like, hey, you want a meatball sandwich from Subway?
I got addicted to those things.
Anyway.
Now Bloomberg reports that Paramount has offered three-year agreements to both those exhibitors.
And the chicken isn't even that good, John.
What are you doing?
What are you doing right now?
Under the agreements, the studio will guarantee.
30 movies a year in theaters for three years straight, 90 films overall.
I don't. Come on. Come on. I told homeless. He's taking a shit outside of one of these places.
I'm supposed to eat there?
The lady took a dump in the lawn. I said, yeah, give me a meal.
Sub. In addition, the films. True story, by the way, would play exclusively on the big screen for at least 45 days and would not be available on SvOD service for at least 90 days.
The agreements are meant to put in a writing guarantee of Ellison's repeated claims to make more movies should the deal go through.
30 films a year figure has been floated around for a while, including CinemaCon earlier this year.
The obvious question arises as to what the penalties are, Paramount feels to me fails to meet the commitments and what qualifies as a theatrical release under this deal.
No major studio in the modern era of filmmaker has been able to choose such a slate of films, which leads many to think if it's possible.
Ellison is trying, though, and it's been Greenlanding Projects,
more Transformers, Star Trek, World War Z,
G.I. Joe, Call of Duty, Nightmare and Elmo Street, and more in the works.
Okay, so you can see why they're going for this.
Because not only if it's like, hey, guys, approve this deal,
and we're going to, you guys are so worried about all the, you know,
everything going to streaming, we're going to give me more movies than you ever,
than you ever even imagined.
But the question is, is it legit or is it, again, the kid who's running for student president saying, I'll get you peace every day and no homework?
Yeah. Yeah.
It's tough. So what do you think?
Okay, so here's what I'm going to look at it. I'm going to give you two responses.
The first thing is, I agree with you. I think it's absolutely, I think they're scared about the court case.
I think they think they're going to lose the court case and they are going to lose this situation.
and it's going to cost them billions of dollars.
So now they're going, they're using their contacts in the industry,
these writers who are desperate to keep their salaries,
and they're writing, they're feeding them information to write these articles
to promote this stuff.
And then that op-ed in the New York Times was ridiculous,
like utterly ridiculous.
They're coming after my CNN.
Yes, because you made a political son,
because you know you're going after CNN,
because you want to manipulate the political narrative
because you're doing it for your orange-faced daddy.
You know you are.
And so cut it out by crying that it's a political thing from the left.
It's not.
You made it political and people are meeting you at that and going toe to tell.
And what he's doing here, and I tweeted out this morning,
this is similar to what we just saw our AG do.
I will write the, I will put it in writing that there'll be no slush fun for January 6thers
and no IRS audit for Trump after all of that just to get the votes.
But then all the legal analyst said he can rescind that right after he writes the contract.
I guarantee you that Allison has taken a page out of that playbook.
and doing the same thing and writing this out.
So it looks like, oh, my God, 30 movies here.
We'll all get to work.
Everyone will be happy.
But it does seem like he's trying to.
But I think he'll be loopholes.
Yeah, but I think there'll be loopholes in the contract
that'll allow him to get out of putting 30 movies at years.
Sure.
Right.
He doesn't have to be beholden to it.
Exactly.
And so I think it's all performative bullshit to try to change the narrative in my time.
I think that I think that you're half right.
I think that the guy truly does like making movies.
I think it's a reason.
I think that he...
Oh, no, I don't disagree with that.
Right.
I do think he likes to make a better than.
And so I think he wants to, I mean, because, you know, you come from that school of,
even with everyone that he hangs with, the school of like, well, if I'm going to do it,
I'm going to do it the best.
I'm going to do the best.
And like, no one ever did this before and I'm going to do it.
And sometimes it's, wow, you actually pulled that off.
And sometimes there's a reason why nobody's able to do it because it's not possible.
Right.
But there are some people who also achieve certain things who say, like, look, they say it's not
possible and then you make it possible.
If you can do that, it's a major
feat and it would help movies, but it
also doesn't matter if you
make all those movies. You also got to get people
to see those movies. Right. Exactly.
That's the other trick, right? Because
you get excited when you hear
more Transformers movies are coming. I don't.
Because it's like...
It's like Michael Bay's directing. See, that's the whole
thing. That's when I hide behind
the couch and wait
for it to be over with. It's like
waterboarding. But
but there's other things though that you know.
Speaking of the chicken.
Right.
But there's other things that happen.
There's other things that happen that, you know, they're going to greenlight.
They're going to try to do.
They're going to do shots with the GI Joe stuff and other things that they're trying to maneuver.
And if they do get Warner Brothers and they get all these different IPs with the IPs they already have from Paramount, it's not crazy to say that they don't have enough material to try to make it happen.
Yeah.
Christian, I don't have any.
I like the idea.
support the idea of 30 movies i'd be on board with it the thing is if he was really about making
movie he would immediately divest himself of cnn send it off to some let someone else buy it and then
focus on the movie that's probably part of the deal but that's too that's probably part of the deal
though for this coming from the from the house exactly to get it's like hey listen we'll help you out
we'll help you off but you got to get this he probably doesn't exactly about CNN exactly and that's
to me at the end of the day it's like well if you're not
not will if you're telling me you're all about movies and you're not willing to make the one
concession that would turn everybody i don't think he's allowed to make that concession yeah right exactly
because that's the difference that's the difference anyway um right so we'll see what happens
it's gonna be crazy it's gonna be crazy this that that story is far from over as franks the lone
said um and we're gonna end with this one and luke if you can because i know that we have the moana
part portion of this but can you get me the black adam side of this also from because i saw the
I saw the clip from it this morning on, but I'd like to see if we can get it in an article form with Iraq and Kevin Hart.
But here's the, here's the Moana side of it.
Dwayne Johnson was talking about Moana remake failure.
Now, I don't know.
Was this, John, I didn't read this article yet, but is this the one from, was John Kevin Hart talking about this?
I think so.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
This is where that I saw that other one coming from.
Okay.
Okay, so Dwayne Johnson has spoken about the bombing of the recent live action remake of Moana,
the film has been in cinemas for almost four weeks and only managed 266 million so far, while it's not as bad as Snow White, which made 205 across its entire run.
It's far from the Moana 2 animated film just a few years back.
They made over a billion.
Moana is an established brand with all sorts of answer review streams from merchandise to theme parks.
So Disney will recover from that income in that way, but it's not a good look for the studio.
Speaking, oh, this is with people.
That's okay.
Oh, okay.
Johnson says, our first two reviews came out.
I'll never forget it.
They're amazing.
I was like, wow. Then it went another way, as sometimes happens. That's just the way it goes because we're in the business. The challenge was, okay, let's remember, though, what's going to be beyond this opening weekend. Let's remember what's happening right now and the noise that's happening right now. If you love it, great, if you don't know a problem. He added that what really mattered was the culture really stood up. The film's financial failure could potentially shake up Disney's recent approach of sticking to more modern films in its live action remakes of its animated classics. That approach was reinforced when Dumbo and Pinocchio,
both flopped. Peter Pan and Wendy was sent straight to streaming and Cruella didn't do
as well as hoped despite having some good reviews. That was during the pandemic, wasn't it?
Yeah.
Well, yeah. Aladdin and Lion King made a billion dollars each, and even Mufasa, the Lion King
overcame a soft start to go into 723. Little Mermaid underperformed, Snow White bombed hard,
while Lilo and Stitch made over a billion. Approach still seems justified at the time. Now,
Hunos. So, yeah, let's
Listen, I think Luke's looking for the, the, um, okay, the Black Adams.
Kevin, the Kevin Hart black Adams stuff.
But this is, I think he, this is a fine answer.
He's not, he's not going to, I don't think that he can, but what do you want him to say,
though?
You want him to say, yeah, I'm bummed.
It, it, it, it's, it's really hurts.
I hate it.
It's like, the guy's got to say, he stays positive and he has that outlook because that's what
people look for him for but he sent any and he did the culture he's like the culture showed up for it
and that too you know he's bummed and he knows that it it ain't duty well i appreciate this answer
because i think he's gotten how can i say this yeah like anything in life he has had enough
experience in a certain arena now that he knows how to respond to this situation better than he
did when Baywatch got destroyed, when Black Adam got destroyed.
And so this is a fine answer.
And this is the answer if he had been smart about the failures of certain movies and not
gotten arrogant or cocky or defensive and went after critics even at some point, this would
have been a good answer to all the box office failures that he has had over the last few years
is like, hey, I get it.
It wasn't for everybody.
But the people that loved it, thank you.
the people that didn't, sorry we didn't make a better film for you.
It's really easy to have that level of humility when something fails.
The problem I've had with him recently is that he's been defensive and to the point of pugnaciousness
and combative about it.
And it's like, bro, the public is speaking.
You have to listen.
And I think, unfortunately, he's gotten so many Ls recently for a lot of his projects, even in the WWE,
that he has now practiced in responding to this for the more humility.
Yeah, it's true.
Well, it's interesting you say that because tell me if I'm going to play this audio and tell me if you can hear if you can hear the audio because then I'll just play the audio itself.
Okay.
I found the audio or it's it.
Hold on.
Okay.
Is that right?
Tell me if you hear this real quick.
Okay.
What's the reason?
Did you hear that?
I did hear that.
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
Here's the audio.
What's the reason or the reasons for the stopping of Black Adam?
I think that Black Adam.
got caught in a vortex of new leadership.
And that's the time as we were, creating Black Adam, developing it, shooting Black Adam,
we got knocked down a little bit because of COVID, and the shutdowns got back up.
There was so many changes in leadership.
And as you know, anytime you have a company, but especially that size and magnitude,
that's a publicly traded company.
And you have all those changes in leadership.
You have people coming in who creatively,
fiscally are going to make decisions that you may not agree with philosophically.
So I think Black Adam was one of those movies that got caught in that web of new leadership.
And, you know, that will always be one of the biggest mysteries, I think, not only for me
and us on our end, but also throughout our business, because that's a Kevin question, but that was a
question out of Wall Street.
That was a question out of Hollywood.
That was a question like, wait a second.
You had the biggest opening of your career.
Sure, no China.
That could have been maybe $100,
maybe $200 more million.
You're establishing a new superhero.
You want to grow out the franchise.
You bring back Superman and Henry Cavill.
The world went crazy.
And also, too, and you and I,
you were texting me this on opening weekend is we created a diverse
superhero portfolio where we had just men and women of color,
you know, in Black Adam too as well.
So I think I was more.
I was impressed by the execution.
Okay.
So, okay, here's the thing.
I do think that there was a clash in the leadership thing there.
I don't disagree with what he's saying there, and I'm going to defend and agree with these comments up top.
However, I'm going to combat it with what I think another real problem was.
Okay.
So I can understand that if you're in the middle of this thing, and remember,
He was making a pitch that he wanted to ultimately take over the D.C.
His ego wanted to run the whole thing.
He wanted to run the whole thing with it by jumpstarting this and getting Henry Cavillback,
which is a smart play if you can get the fans on board to do that and make the move.
And the movie wound up making whatever it was, $400 million, whatever it might have been.
I think the point about not opening in China is valid.
I think that it would, I don't know how much more it would have added it,
but it would have added more and it would have pushed it over the just break even,
which had just lost a little money or just broke even,
which is what we're going to talk about in just a second.
But I can understand where it's like,
okay, look,
we had this idea.
Someone else comes in.
They have a different idea and it doesn't work.
Clearly he doesn't like the new vision of where DC is going.
Now, that's another conversation all in general,
whether or not it should have went there.
So I get his grievances.
The problem is you made that movie, Black Adam, for $230 million or whatever it was, and it should have cost $130.
260. If you would have made it, because if you're trying to jumpstart a new thing and bringing back Henry Cavill and everything, if you would have made that movie, it would have been, you still had the rock and he should have taken a pay cut if you really wanted to make that. He should have, he should have taken down and really gone down and made this the bare bones thing to show, I care someone.
much about it. I'm going to make it for this amount of money.
Make it a little smaller. Make it. And then you
make that kind of money. Bring Henry Cavill back.
And then it makes $500 million
on a $160 million budget.
And you're not too
far off from what Superman made.
And so
I think that there was more as far
as the approach of it,
which he should have been a little more forthcoming with.
But his arguing
or his reason
of his battle with the new leadership,
I understand it, but I don't think it's the only
reason it didn't do well. It's a crap movie. And I think, I think, honestly, and I think all this,
I think, you know, far be it for me to be succinct. But like, I just think that's what the reason is.
And you can decorate with, you can decorate all this extra stuff around it, but you're putting
lipstick on a pig. It's still a pig. And so to me, that's what I am so frustrated about,
that this is really the film. He will not just accept that they made a terrible,
movie. They made a terrible movie.
They wasted so many great talents.
But if a terrible movie made five, if a terrible
movie made almost, you know, what was it, $400 million?
That's, I mean, that's 400 million.
Yeah, yeah.
So by that, by that logic, though, don't you think that's impressive of you?
Because I don't think it's terrible.
Not a terrible superhero movie.
I don't think that's impressive because people will come out to see a superhero movie,
even if it's not that great.
Tell Supergirl that.
Tell Supergirl that.
Well, that's a different situation there.
But I think Black Adam is like, I think Supergirl suffers from
DC's track record by
with putting like the fans are burned
so they're not willing to give DC another chance
and listen you're not going to compare
Millie Alcock to the Rock in terms of reach
you know so but I think he's
he's saying all of these things to essentially
take the blame away
from him his producing people
his writers his director Joe
Gallet Sarah and the people involved in the
production instead of just saying you know what
we made a shitty film because there
have been plenty of great films made
with destabilized
I don't think he thinks it's shitty, though.
I don't think that's the problem.
Right, that's the problem.
I think Moana, he probably thinks you're shitting.
Well, maybe he does.
That was his ego to come back and do.
He made that happen.
But the thing is, this is, there's been a lot of good films made with unstable
leadership in charge of studios.
I mean, go back in the 70s, there were some unstable leaders in charge of studios,
yet some of the greatest films ever made.
So this destabilization of leadership is irrelevant to why.
Well, wait, but to combat that.
I don't, I don't agree with you.
Wait, wait, wait, to combat that.
combat that a little bit though is that yes well you can because it's a good executive it just
didn't work out well but you had the james gun change up and all this stuff happening in the middle of
of all these negotiations happening about the brand no it's nothing to do with the quality of the movie
no it doesn't but it also has the idea of like what they what was really going on behind the scenes i mean
look at what happened to henry cavil though every i mean even james gunn it says he got he got screwed
he got screwed over in that whole thing i agree yeah and and that was because of the shitty leadership
that was in there because they had set this whole deal in motion with the rock and everything else too.
And they made this deal because I guess the Rock's ex-wife, who we produced this stuff with,
there's also works with Henry Cavill and Henry Cavill and Good Faith kind of came back.
Henry Cowell got screwed out of that and just really played it, played it well.
But so I do think the leadership had something to do with the shitty handling of that.
So it's effectively true what he's saying in that aspect.
However, I do say the people I see people saying it was just saying it was just,
shit movie. I understand. I am not fighting
anyone on saying, hey, wait a minute. Let's talk about Black Adam and how good.
I just happen to enjoy it. I might have been stoned watching it, but who cares?
That does matter. No, it doesn't. It does.
But nonetheless, I enjoyed it and I really like the music.
Oh, the music. Well, but I, listen, but I love him. Listen, I, I don't criticize from a place of
hatred of the rock. I love him. He's like a friend of you.
who keeps making these mistakes.
You're like, will you stop?
Will you just fucking take a moment
and look at yourself and stop with the ego?
Because people love, you're a good man.
You care about people,
but you are making these steps
that are killing your ego
and you won't just take a step back.
And somehow his production company
isn't figuring out what to put him in
because nothing is working.
He tried a smash machine.
He was so good at that.
I know.
I know.
But it's not working.
I'm going to score Sisi.
I wonder.
if it's Chris says you can get it done.
I hope so.
But here's the real question.
Here's the real question.
And that other film that's coming out as well, the chicken one.
But the question I have for you is,
are those tomatoes ever fresh on, at, so.
They're like a pale red, like a pale red.
Like a pale red.
All right.
Let's jump into some questions.
Before we do that.
John, tell us what's going on in the channel before we get to the clip.
Oh, yeah.
Please.
The John Roka channel, please head on over there.
YouTube.com slash John Rooka says,
oh my God, I've been unhinged.
unstable, uneven the whole
time. Head on over there, YouTube.com
slash John Rookas. There's so much going on there
on the channel. As I said, yesterday we did our
spoiler review, two and a half hour spoiler
review, if you include questions on
Spider-Man brand new day with the geek buddies,
we'll definitely have a conversation
about which Kristen, Christian and I didn't even have
about the finale for House of the Dragon last night.
We'll definitely do a review of that coming up. But then we got
Hot Mike, spill the tequila tomorrow night as well, and my
reactions and reviews, and my new shows
that I've going to be launching here, the verdict
as well. So there'll be a lot of stuff happening. Come on over the channel. Head on up.
Be a part of the John Roka channel. Thank you all so much.
All right. Now, not only, you're going to be a part of the channel. You're going to be part
of Roka winning yet again. Just knocking people out left and right. Can you do it?
Once again. Oh, and speaking of John Roka, today's match on the Shmodown channel,
it's the big rematch.
Come on, Johnny, boy, let's do it.
you got Scott Mant, John Roker, the big rematch.
Wow.
It is going up on the channel today.
If you didn't see the classic first one, you should watch that first.
And then you can watch this one because that one's going up a little later on today.
Let's do it.
Come on.
I will do a reaction to that one.
You should.
Ron, you got it.
Ron, there's always so much to say, and I want to share with you all.
But I help Roka because he gets Mondays, I feel so conflict.
What do I do?
This is why cannabis is helpful.
Now I'm good.
See?
he knows.
Maybe showing me more roca lucidor as will help me feel better
or finally finding out that Christian watched the rest of Hollywood.
Until then, I used that weed.
Well, I didn't watch the rest of it yet,
so I can't give you that one at all.
So,
This is delicious.
That's what you get.
We should flip just that part out.
This is delicious.
Yeah, it's like, hey, hey, what was the character's name?
Do you have one?
I don't remember.
Rookador.
We'll call him Rokador.
Sure.
Hey, Rokador.
What did you think about the Subway Meatball Sub?
This is delicious.
How about that lettuce that is going around that's giving everyone the shit?
This is delicious.
Wow.
Okay.
Wow.
He is the Rokador.
I can get away.
I'll have to talk to my agents.
We have to charge you for that clip.
Go ahead.
I've never played the Rokador.
Maybe show.
We did show the Rokador.
All right.
So Ron H also says crack might also help you feel good.
Nope.
Say it from that.
Don't approve.
Danny Romney,
this truly is a summer in New York.
Nick's winning finals,
World Cup games,
and now Spider-Man is box office sensation.
I'm not going to argue with it.
It's so New York that movie, dude.
I loved it.
It really is.
Ralph!
Odyssey made more than Toy Story 5 insane.
It is.
I would have never,
ever predicted that.
And if someone would have asked me that at me any year,
I say, no.
I think there's, you know,
they both couldn't hit a bill
but Toy Story is going to
I thought Twister was going to do like 1.4,
I thought Toy Story at one point we might even
demitter than Spider-Man. That's how crazy.
Now that's insane. Now that's
insane. But to even think something like that.
But Jason Crosby, curious, what was more fun?
Watching the Odyssey or watching all the
jobs, right reading Nubter to keep moving
goalposts and be moving to being successful.
Well, I think it was more than that.
You know, I think that it was one of the things, too,
that came down to the
what I did see with that is I did see people also making videos like I just wish that some of the videos
because sometimes I'll be honest sometimes some of the videos they they'll make sense of like when it comes to
ideas about how the studios are pushing movies and the supergirl aspect of this movie shouldn't
have been the second movie and they're going to and the quality of this movie wasn't that good you're like
okay I can't really argue with that there's something now when you go after the the actresses looks
and other thing like that you're not going to win me over there but
When you come over certain things about what.
And so it was like, okay, then clearly that wasn't just their point of view because
no one else when you saw the movie.
Yeah.
But when they're going, it's like, okay, we're going after this movie now and we're going
and it was every one of my out of the theater reaction review for like, it was like they sent
out a memo.
Oh yeah.
For this week, bomb everybody's thing.
And then once you're that just stopped because I haven't gotten one comment since on,
on that video since.
But it's like, I would have loved to see one video going, hey, thought it was going to bomb.
And it didn't.
I thought it was because I saw so many comments.
This movie's going to be such a failure and a disappointment.
But then someone else, they'll see this clip and they're going to say,
they're going to go the same thing.
Oh, no, here's the reason why.
The reason why the Odyssey and it's like, just say, look,
it was better than I thought it was going to be.
And they can't.
They're not allowed to say that.
No, because they, you know, they subscribe to that point of view that they can't,
never give ground, never see to anything.
I would love to see that.
I would have so much more.
conspiracy theory rather than just accepting that you were wrong yeah i'd have so much more
people which would look look look i thought this movie from what i thought in the casting everything i
heard about i thought i was going to be terrible i said i liked them sorry guys i know my audience here
doesn't expect me to say that but i liked it i dug it and then you can go back to making a bunch of
videos about shitting on everything else but it's like i it's just it's just so it it it becomes schick
like i can tell you there's certain like you know whether it's channels reactors reviewers whatever
in a positive side of thing.
I can guarantee you that there is a reactor
that I'm thinking of immediately
no matter what it is.
You're going to love it.
You're going to scream and yell and think it's the best thing
you ever saw.
Oh, Subway, I love the meatball subs.
Woo!
I knew that was coming.
I knew it was coming.
I knew you thought it was the best thing that ever happened.
In the same way, they're like, oh, let me guess.
Here comes your review. You hate it.
Why did you hate it?
Because this or that you hated it.
It's like, if I can,
can guess right away what you're thinking. And I can guess where you're going. It's not saying to me.
Like some people say, oh, Christian, Christian hates everything now. I do. Okay. Christian loves everything now.
I was like, you got to go, you got to go to the right class because you're going to different classes.
You're missing up because apparently the class right before says I love everything.
And that other class says, I hate everything. That class says that I'm this.
What is it? Yeah, I don't. It's frustrating. It's frustrating.
Anyway, ETP HHM1. Hey, Christian, what's up, man?
I have been loving the show since the Schmo's No Days.
Well, thank you so much.
And I love the dynamic with you and Rocha here on Mondays.
I appreciate that as well.
Just curious to when we'll see when we'll get to see Strawahoofee on the show anytime soon.
Look, I love Juju.
I've said this many times.
I would recommend tweeting in him or sending him an Instagram message.
Yeah.
And tell him because the last time I booked him, I was ready for him,
and he was live streaming in,
Where are we in London?
When were you supposed to be on the show?
So, you know, I'd love to have him on.
I loved you.
I'd love to have, and we'd have a great conversation.
I think he's a great dude.
I think he's really smart.
I think I've had many conversations with them,
and I'd love to have more conversations with him.
All his publicists reached out to us last week,
so we're going to try to get him on the hotline scene for sure.
Good, good.
Yeah.
Give him some shit when he's on the show for me, too.
Always fun when the Braves and Yankees get together.
World Series preview?
No way. We're not making the series.
Hey, stop it.
When's Judge coming back?
When's Judge coming back?
Come on.
How dare you doubt?
Don't be a doubter?
Were you saying the same?
See?
We don't have the tools, man.
We don't have the tools.
Right now we don't.
But what about the new shortstop?
The kids got the juice.
Come on.
Tyler Fifeer.
I know the list is very long, but has Sam seen the Pirates of the Caribbean movies?
I bet you've seen one if I was the guest.
Speaking of that, I'm glad that someone brought up a reaction to it.
So did you watch The House of Dragon?
last night john yeah i was just mentioning that yeah did you like the finale i liked it yes loved it
i loved it yeah um it was great so people if people are wondering when you saw it because i got a couple
messages about it too they're like oh this at for like three minutes the sound drops out at the
end of your thing yeah there's there's a reason for that guy yeah yeah yeah there's a copyright thing
it's like it's either get rid of the whole segment i'd either clip out the whole thing and get
rid of the whole moments and then have everybody go how you could have cut that whole thing out you're
like messages and everything to it i'm i'm aware of it it's just it's just unfortunately how you get
especially you know what it is now it's it's the the what is it the wmd is that what it is from uh the
or wbd not md for for the music yes like they they have been claiming everybody stuff lately
yeah and so they'll take little things from trailers and other things yeah too so like
that so that's why
it's muted. So if you see that part of the
reaction, you just stick with it or fast
forward past them. Yeah.
Yeah. Nathan Drake, going through your Spider-Man
reactions with Sam and cracking up when you mentioned all the
bad extras during the Amazing Spider-Man 2 times
squares. Have you watched that recently?
Bro, I watch bad extras all
the time on shows and movies. I don't
understand how a director lets that pass.
Yeah.
So there
is so many bad
extras. And it's not even
just a bad extras side of things.
And because it was, that was, um, no, who was that?
That was Mark Webb that did that one, right?
Yes.
Yeah.
That was as much of a bad extra, the bad directing job for that scene as much of it was bad.
Because why in the world, when all of that stuff is happening in Times Square, are people just watching it like it's a UFC fight?
Hmm.
The guy is destroying everything.
Get out of there.
And they're like this, John.
And it's it's the worst.
It is the worst.
It's almost is my favorite one though that I've noticed, though, is the, and this has been all over the place.
But the, um, the old lady and Dr. Strange too, have you seen her?
Oh, no.
Oh, my God.
You can find that, that one's gone viral, but it's, it's, um, he's at, he's at her wedding.
Yeah.
And, and he's sitting there.
And there's just, she's just sitting behind.
I know who she's with, you know, she's showing this.
Wow. Wow.
That's the stuff you don't pick up, though, until, you know, you're watching the dailies.
Yeah.
It's like the teen wolf extra showing his balls.
That's another great one.
All right.
Tristan Green, man, oh man, that house of the dragon family was awesome.
It sure was.
Personally, actually did a heel turn.
Now just two more years, still get more.
I mean, that Sam is.
pissed about that. Oh, there's going to be two more years. Oh, she's pissed. I said, welcome.
I mean, that's, that's, that's, I mean, that's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, I mean, it's been, it's been, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm gonna read her text, because it's hilarious.
She said, um, I'm watching house the dragon again, and Rnerner lost her eff in mind. Also, you'll say, here's, I can't wait two years for this return.
That is disrespectful. And I said, I said, don't worry about it. You're gonna love nights of the seven king.
them. She said, I like watching it the way that we did.
I don't want to wait. F these people in the writer. Speed it up.
She goes, uh, 2028 is just disrespectful. And I said, listen, it takes two years. I said,
the first one was 22 and the second was 2024. They're on schedule. She goes, I don't give a shit.
She's pissed. She raised. Someone who had never seen Game of Thrones to someone who's just
completely obsessed now. All right. Let's see. Joseph, Jimenez.
440 Jules unclear. Thank you.
59 so far, John, doing pretty good.
Nice. Thank you guys.
LJ. Films became a YouTube member. Thank you so much.
Nathan Drake, crazy that Spider-Man made over 800 million in 2002.
Yeah, it is pretty.
I mean, that's inflated.
That's pretty big.
That's true.
Yeah, yeah.
But John, even mentioning, it just shows you how big of a baller Spider-Man is, right?
Because we just mentioned that amazing Spider-Man, too,
which is arguably the worst movie in the Spider-Man
live-action franchise, right?
That movie made $800 million.
$875.
Wow. Right. Right. Right.
It's crazy.
So it's it. What I said last week on this show is what is my is my now new module.
Spider-Man is the greatest superhero ever. I just think it's true.
He has the receipts to put himself in that position.
Yes.
Yeah. Nathan Drake. A theater near me has a Jack and Coke ice machine, but so he's broken.
Yeah, because people are going to shit-house on it.
Jordan likes movies. 1,000 Jules Go trophy. Thank you, Jordan.
I appreciate that.
Thank you, Lil.
Yankee with a hundred jewels high five thank you two jewels silver star from jenny lost and appreciate that
jenny uh die al shrower end game was at 2.1 8 million after two weeks and finished at 2.8 i see
spidey ending around 2.5 100 million and same for a solo film i think 2.5 2.5 is low
i think 2.5 is low i think it ends at around 2.7 i think same with what john was saying
Yeah, yeah. And, you know, and
D'all, what you're saying is
like globally, it was at 2.1,
but domestically,
Spider-Man is on pace
$115 million ahead
of where Force Awakens was at this point.
So, I mean, that's going to be an interesting
to see where it ends up as.
Totally. I want to see, I'm also
curious about, one of the things
that are speaking, there's some Star Wars stuff
too that's coming up, but I wanted to make sure
because we didn't really
Guardians of the Galaxy Star, Dave Bateser, is
rumor to have signed up for an upcoming Star Wars project.
Hey, now. So the rumor
is that he might be headed back
to a different galaxy far,
far away, according to my time to shine.
Former WW superstar and June actor
has been cast in an upcoming Star Wars project.
Unfortunately, that's all we have to go on for now.
It's worth, it's worth
noting that it's not an official Lucasum
casting announcement of the rumor is best taking on a pinch of salt.
I do think, though,
this will probably be announced
at D23, and I'll talk about this
in a second. And
the actor has made no secret to his desire to join Star Wars.
He said, I've actually auditioned for a couple of Star Wars movies.
They turn me down.
It was always a dream of mine to be in the Star Wars film.
Someone says,
a possibility of Starfighter,
I think that movie's cast and done and shot already.
Yeah.
And I think it would be wasted if you put them in there.
Yeah.
So they gave a secret role in it.
Another possibility is that it could be Asoka Season 2.
I don't think so.
I don't think it's either one of them.
I think that they're going,
at D23, this week,
we haven't really talked about that.
Yeah.
I think they're going to show Asoka season two, which is very possible that that's where he could land.
And they announce him as upcoming and they show a trailer with him.
That's possible.
Okay.
Starfighter, they're going to show Starfighter stuff at D-23.
Those two things, what I just mentioned, they're going to show.
Right.
I think that there is no, no one knows what the future of Star Wars is in the, like, we don't know a Faloni, minus Asoka season two.
What is Falun?
Yeah.
Starfighter was a Kathleen Kennedy.
Yes.
What is Faloni's first thing?
I think it's going to be a full-on embracing of the Simon Kinberg trilogy.
And I think that Dave Batista is going to be announced as one of the cast members inside of that trilogy.
I love that.
I love that.
I will go with that.
That sounds good to me.
That would be headlines.
Yes, 100%.
100%.
And what I heard, John, and I just is something that I don't know if you guys already reported this too,
but I have heard that he is nowhere near going to be directing anything.
He's going to be just writing.
He's not directing.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I haven't heard he's directing it either.
He's not directing.
D.L. Scharer.
And, yeah, we did that one.
Okay.
So now we have the badass times.
House of the Dragons, everything Star Wars should be.
Lucasfilm Disney should take notes and beg HBO showmeners for help.
If they don't, they are incumbentant should be fired.
Well, I mean, look, this is, this is, but the problem here,
I'm with you, badass times.
I'm with you, that I wish that if you're talking about TV specifically, right,
I wish, because they did this.
I had come right off of watching Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon with Sam
right into Andor.
And it felt familiar.
Like the character building and the development and the writing like that.
It was the same kind of writing that made those types of show good.
Ander always felt like it should be on HBO.
But then they abandoned it for cartoon writing.
And that's what I'm afraid.
Like Flonnie's writing the whole entire Asoka season too.
You just kind of get to a lot of the same old shit.
it. Yeah, unfortunately, true. But I mean, you know,
badass times you say this stuff, but George R. Martin and the showrunner,
Ryan Condell, have famously been fighting over the last year of half. Haven't they patched it up?
I thought they patched it up. No. There's still issues going on because of the changes he made.
So I agree with you, but there's no way anybody, Philoni is going to go into this harder-edge Star Wars.
It's just not his jam. I know. I really wish that he would.
Ron H. I could use a film escape right now, despite the jovial name.
try to present it's been tough and lonely at times thank god for this community you've been my
therapy my cheerier with my friends at ron that's the nicest thing you said and i'm glad that we could
do that for you man like same you've been like one of the biggest supporters if not the biggest
supporter of the channel recently and it's super super uh kind you and i'm glad that you're uh i'm glad that we

happening i like i like spring breakers one you did i
Oh, yeah.
Give me my shit.
Give me my shit.
Now the question is,
are they going to get James Franco back?
Did he die in the first one?
I can't remember.
Might as well, no.
Did he die in the first one?
I don't remember.
I can't remember.
Ron H.
Everyone who knows real life me thinks I'm off my rock,
or they don't understand.
I'm on me, but not me.
They all thought.
I'm a different man.
Many friends and I have no idea how to deal with it.
I think sometimes Ron, when you put these things in there,
I think that you might,
looking at it like that's a diary or something but like but but it's like a $20 diary what can I say
about it but like you know hey listen I we think you're off your rocker but in the best way
possible yeah so what I'm saying is Christian watch and finish Hollywood already seriously
roca community thanks for being you thank you I'm glad that we did yeah
reggie Brown spider man has been the number one IP since 2000 studios wish they had Spider-Man

i'm telling you it looked like someone you got to take a picture it's like someone climbed the
ladder stuck the balloon and it's like die hard rap taped on it anyway um johnny petrza do you
have a favorite current stand up yeah bill burr he he's still the old he kind of holds that old
guard for me my favorite you're saying currency up like all time is no one's touching georgie
but um but favorite yeah no one's such a but uh but favorite but favorite is is bill bar i love the way
like i can watch you know it's funny is i've watched bill burr yeah there've been times i've watched
him and i'd be like i and maybe didn't laugh um for like you know a five or 10 minute thing right
yeah yeah but i was always just so engaged
in and in the way that he structures his words and the story.
I am never bored, never, because he always pays off even down the line.
Like, and, and he's not afraid to, he's never afraid.
He's fearless and he's never afraid.
Yeah.
Yeah, I love his, his Philadelphia thing is legend.
Oh, that was the best.
Oh, he's the best.
Yeah, that's got a man.
I still go back and listen to that.
The WNBA thing is amazing.
Oh, my God. Yes.
100%.
Amazing. Amazing.
Mike Joyce.
Oh, you know, and also, in his, his plastic surgery,
you think. You ever hear that one?
No, no, I haven't heard that one. He's like,
he's women and they're getting the plastic surgery.
He's like, the thing is like, I'm balding.
My head. I can wear a hat.
There's no hat for your face.
There's no hat for your face. They haven't perfected it yet.
Wait.
It's so good.
Currently my favorite is Josh Johnson.
Someone said in the chat as well, his ability to come up with stuff like that is
happening in the headlines right now and do five to eight minutes on it
in a current stand-up is amazing.
Amazing.
I love that guy.
He's on daily show, too.
He's very much out of the scene.
The way, you know, now.
You give a lot, man.
So let's see.
Where the hell are we?
Here we go.
Okay.
Next one.
Mike choice.
One night only is good, but it's problematic.
The scenes of being,
people being arrested and sent to sex jail are funny at first,
but less so when you think about it.
Some people would say it's satire of a conservative
propaganda is more like it makes light of fascism too rocca would hate it i i'm on a different
page with these types of stuff to i i keep trying god love but the thing is a movie is a movie it's like i
do sometimes sometimes i i feel like you know people are just looking for shit to to get upset about
and to you know sometimes there's legit reasons too but like a lot of times just like people
pointing and waiting for something to to just tweet about and get someone in trouble i i hate
that shit, Mike. I'm sorry. There's no fascism
of one night on it. Let's put it on the table.
I hate that shit. It's a fucking stupid movie about
it's like it's people who start problematic. Come on, Mike.
Come on, come on. Yeah. Floating Heart.
10 Jules. Fumbs up.
10 Jules. Nathan Drake.
Eli Roth Deshrush is a guilty pleasure. I don't even know.
Watch the OG, bro. There's no waste time.
Is it Bruce Willis in that one? Yeah, Bruce Wilson.
Okay. Armada. You all see John Oliver
dis James Gunn.
Oh, I heard that he took a shot at the comic books.
Yeah, I'm assuming he's James Gun.
What did he say in general?
I got to watch that.
Luke, can you send me that?
No, I didn't see that.
No, Luke, send me the clip of John Oliver, if you're fine.
And I'll play the audio.
Wow.
I'd like to hear that.
All right, let's say, uh-oh, where did everything go?
Oh, there it is.
Okay.
The great Tim Sim.
With all the excitement now building up for
the MCU Mutant Saga after Sadie's performance and brand new day, you think that it'll happen
regardless of the critical and financial impact of Doomsday and Secret Wars on Fiking and Disney,
the Mutant saga?
Yeah, 100%.
With all, now building up, you're saying so, no matter what, so you're saying, hypothetically,
if Doomsday and Secret Wars don't do well, is that, will they still go forward with that plan?
One billion percent, even more so, even more so, because,
because they've had a character from, you know, the, this, this billion-dollar movie that they can now
go on, you know, so, um, I, John, I do have the, uh, the audio. I want to address this thing in a
second, but let's, let's, let's, let me get the audio here. Hold on a moment. Okay. Hold on,
hold on. Give me a moment. All right. Okay. Perfect. And bring it up.
All right, playing the audio in a moment.
I haven't heard these comments either.
So the two of us hearing this for the first time.
Oh, not hearing.
Oh, there it is.
Okay.
All right, here we go.
No one's accusing you of running away.
They're accusing you of losing.
That's the short, everyone believes you ran cock first as hard as you could
straight into a brick wall.
A second, I didn't realize the existence of repeated unsuccessful attempts was actually
good news.
That's huge for DC movies, if true.
And that string of failures brings me to the fact.
Okay.
So it ain't too great.
That's all he said.
Yeah.
That's not.
It's not.
I mean, you know, this is to take it.
I mean, yeah.
It's a little.
DC failures.
He didn't say James Gunn.
He had a picture of James Gunn up there, though.
Oh, he had a picture of James Gunnum.
So, but he did put all of DC in there too.
But yeah, it's like, look, they're there right now.
D.C. is in, um, for me, the way it ranks still, as far as excitement of how people,
of how people are looking forward to things in the geek culture.
It's Marvel.
DC, Star Wars.
But DC needs a big win.
I think Clayface will be a win.
I don't know my lanterns.
I don't know my lanterns look cool.
I think man at tomorrow will be a decent enough win and they can get themselves back on track.
I think that the Batman too will be a win.
But more people are excited to see DC movies than they are Star Wars.
People want Star Wars to be good again.
There hasn't been any confidence in Star Wars.
Yeah.
Tim Sims, again, so, yeah,
John, you hear what I'm saying there?
I think that he basically means, like,
if Doomsday and Secret Wars don't succeed,
they're still going to go forward with X-Men,
if not so we won't.
Oh, yeah, I think so.
But I don't, like, I don't know who said this.
Oh, Jeff says this on Hot Mike all the time.
It doesn't matter if Doomsday or Secret Wars is successful
people look for in X-I-Skid.
I think that's not, I think it will,
I think it is,
somewhat dependent on secret wars and doomsday.
X-Men? Right. Yes. I don't think so.
People to be excited about. Oh, no.
Michael says it on geek buddies. He says that.
And I don't 100% agree.
I think you do need Doomsday and Secret Wars to be good to get people excited for X-Men.
I mean, I think it'll help, but I don't think it'll hurt the, I don't think it's going to change the plan.
I think it'll push even forward because X-Men's been a proven brand in the past and the fact you would have Sadie Sink coming off of, because let's say, let's say to your argument.
X-Men has a lot of bad movies in it.
Of course they do.
It's a 50-50.
No doubt, but they carry over an IP that people would be at least curious about.
And like I said, the difference, even if, because Sadie Sink would be coming out after
there's, let's say these two movies don't do well, Doomsday and Secret Wars.
Sure.
So out of the three movies that they put out, one of them made $2 billion plus, right?
She's in that.
So they could, they probably would push harder on her.
But I don't think I think this is a moot point.
We're going to see them in Secret War.
Wars. We're totally going to see that.
That's another reason Secret Wars is going to do very well.
They're going to lead with Spider-Man and Gene Gray.
Yes. Spider-Man has a big part in Secret
Wars. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think so, too.
Carlos Romero, been loving the Star Wars reactions
with Sam. Can't wait to see what her reaction
is to Luke and Mano versus reaction to Luke in episode
8. Love to Christian Nile. Oh, yeah,
it's good. We're watching the
Boba-Fed episodes tomorrow.
So, but, yeah,
we already finished season two.
they'll be, they'll be hearing. Well, season one is still airing, but yeah. Casey, gee, Tiff dropped over 75 trailers last week. Ever gone? No, I've always wanted to go.
Wow.
75.
Did you go to Tiff ever?
No.
No, I always wanted to.
That's one that I would definitely, I would do that.
I would do Kahn.
I would do, I would do, I would do, I would do.
You'd have to work so hard, man.
Oh, I would just go.
I would just, I would just go, like, just to watch movies.
But, like, it's like $2,000.
Like, some of these hotel rooms, have you ever checked out at Tiff?
No, no, no.
Tiff and Sundance are insane.
I'd want to be sent.
John Tick's, yeah.
Thoughts on the possibility.
The Storm not included in the first X-Men film, it seems that we'll get the OG5.
As a fan, I get it to build properly, but someone who's black, many may be upset.
Thoughts.
I think that she's going to have a part.
I think that that's why they're going to debut her in Black Panther 3.
I think they're going to debut her.
And that's why she's going to show up at least, you know, maybe not a massive part in the first one.
But enough to where they set it up to where she will be a massive part in the second one.
And it won't be the OG5, because we're not going to get like angels.
so there's and I don't think we're going to get Iceman.
So I think we're just, we're going to get rogue.
I think we're going to get Beast.
I think we're going to get Cyclops Gene Gray,
but I don't think we're going to get the OG5.
And so, but yeah, as far as for John, I mean, I appreciate,
I mean, John, I get it.
You guys, I mean, for, that's another reason.
I remember, I remember going to the Black Panther,
premiere.
I took R.B3 with me.
And it was a really special moment for me to see, like,
the look in his eyes.
Oh, yeah.
of the you know to feel like he was felt like he was seen right so i get it john i really do someone
who's black may many may be many may be upset i get it john follows it up with this he says
harlough wonder man was well received by critics but many people didn't watch it i mean that's what
that's what i thought as well and that explains why it was canceled i really but he says i don't
getting these numbers from i'd love to know where you know that many people didn't watch it
he says i don't think that it was racial related um i don't necessarily either but i agree with what
Roka said. I agree that, you know, you can understand why people would ask the questions.
Yeah. But, you know, we'll see if there's answers down the line. Right. Exactly. We'll see. Yeah.
But I don't, but I do think the people right away just throw it, throw it,
automatic in the ground. Like, it's one thing, what you did, the way that you presented it,
John, before we were talking about it, I think that's more than fair. I think saying, hey, look,
it doesn't look great, but let's see what you got. I think that's right. I think that I saw some of
he goes, Marvel's racist again.
It's like, you can't do that.
You can't do that.
You don't know yet what their plan is.
You can't do that.
It's just like, it goes back to where you diminish the fight by doing that.
You diminish it.
It's like you can say, wait a minute, I have questions.
I have questions.
That's cool.
That's fine.
That's fair.
But by just doing it, I've seen like, oh, right away.
And that's what that means.
That's what that means.
It doesn't.
It doesn't mean that.
I also push back on the ratings thing by saying, like, guys,
if they had disastrous ratings,
they would have never greenlit a season two of Wonder Man,
but they did.
That's the thing that people hold on to.
You don't green light crappy rating shows
in the world of superhero.
It doesn't happen.
All right, next one.
Go pal.
Gifted five memberships.
Thank you so much.
That's really good.
We have over 1,100 members now, guys.
We're doing some really good stuff there,
so make sure you guys join if you haven't done that.
House the Dragon finale was awesome.
Season 3 is best season?
Maybe.
Maybe it was season 1 and season 3.
I like season 1 still.
I think one just got it.
One just got it.
But I don't know.
That finale is pretty damn good.
Yeah, I like that finale.
But, I mean, one is such a great season.
And this season felt like they were still hanging on to the end of season two in the first two episodes.
And then they got into season three.
So it was a bit of a walkie.
constructed season, but it had a really good finale.
Luke sent me the numbers, by the way, on Wonderman.
Marvel's Disney Plus series Wonderman pulled in 549.6 million minutes
watched in his first 10 days and debuted at number 8 on Nielsen streaming
originals charts with 618 million minutes for the initial window.
Despite a strong 91% critical score on Tomatoes,
the all at once binge release quickly faded, however,
dropping out of the top 10 by its second week.
Yeah, which means nothing.
It could have gone to 11th.
It could have gone to 12th.
And if you're the 12th best TV show,
you're still doing pretty damn good.
So you have to see.
By that argument,
it could have also dropped the 20,
though, no?
It could have, yes.
That's what I'm saying.
If we don't have the information,
you can't really make a full-on judgment
about its ratings.
John D. X-R-Irae.
I hope they build X-Men cast similar to Harry Potter.
Let them grow together and we'll eventually get the iconic
97-17 by the sequel.
I agree.
Build them up.
Yeah, build them up.
R.C.,
I work for a school system.
And the kids today do not love Star Wars and Marvel the way Disney think they do 100%.
Right.
That's 100%.
They have to start marking the adult crowd that grew up and loved these.
I've been saying that, R.C.
I've been saying that for the last like six months.
It's like because the, I couldn't agree with that more.
Like, there's a reason why the ones that are getting nominated are the Andors and stuff.
They're getting nominated because people that grew up with Star Wars are appreciating
that kind of intellectual kind of more deep stuff.
Right.
It's like the people who grew up with the prequels,
they're in their 30s and
and you know
the people who grew up
the OTs are in their freaking 40s
and 50s. And so it's like
you can make those for those
people like Star Wars, they're not
the younger generation is
not responding to Star Wars. It's not
even if you want to make the argument that it was
a kid's brand which I never really bought into that
because like I always used Clancy Brown
who was 19 years old when he went and saw it in
1977 or whatever he was and he went
and saw it by himself in the theater. It was for everybody.
Right? Yep.
But today
I don't think Star Wars is a brand that is a kid's brand anymore.
I think they need to maneuver it past that.
And they should go into the PG-13 type of storytelling.
Get past this idea of, oh, that's how George wanted it.
Well, change that shit now.
Change it.
Because your audience has changed.
John, D.S. Dragon.
Oh, he did that one. Sorry, John.
Jimmy Baker.
I legit have been working extra hours over time.
I job the past few months to put aside money for the Pilots Kickstarter.
Dude, that is the kindest thing that anyone has ever said.
Jimmy, that's like, I got a little emotional there, be honest with you.
That is, that is really kind and really appreciate it.
And I promise you, I called the director yesterday and I was on the phone.
I said, I have not been.
And John, you know me.
I said, I have not been this motivated since the inception in bringing the Shmo down when I did it.
I said, I really want to prove to myself.
I want to prove to the people supporting.
Like, I'm really confident in this script, in this, in general, like, these characters.
All I do is I think about it.
I obsess about it.
I'm like, I'm driving.
I'm listening to music about it.
And like, when I hear someone like Jimmy saying that, I'm like, now I'm going to do everything in my power, Jimmy,
to make sure that it happens.
Like, really, really kind.
John's already been super kind to me and said, you know, I can go on the hot mic as much.
And geek buddies, wherever too, and I'll be doing it.
And I'll be around.
And Jimmy, we'll get it done.
You're right.
We will.
Thank you.
Jimmy, that was awesome.
I'm screenshoting.
I'm screenshoting that.
Hold on.
Sorry.
It was really, really nice.
And that means a lot.
All right.
Next one.
Sun Devil Roadrunner.
Naruto.
I'll remember it.
Naruto.
I'm not going to remember that.
Ron H.
Somebody, eat fresh.
Not usually.
Oh, Christian.
why. That shows you how
you know, you probably remember
that when I just did.
Remember that? Yeah.
The great John Lovett.
Subway, it's fresh.
Some, some 70,
you know, not going to go out. I watched
an episode of the CNN show
comedy that they have,
there's like 10 episodes on HBO Max.
I just randomly watched the one where
they're talking about all the comedians who've died
that we've lost over the last two of the last.
And it ends with them,
like them just making jokes that people made at funerals.
And Mike Myers was at the funeral with John Lovett to Phil Hartman.
And Mike had a moment where he just broke.
He goes, can you believe she did that?
And John Lovitz shows it, oh, it wasn't that bad.
You're making it seem worse than it was.
And it was like, oh, my God.
And Mike Myers lost it.
And he goes, no one would have appreciated that joke more than Phil Hartman.
Lovitz is an assassin.
His thing with Bill Burr is one of the greatest back-and-fuss.
This is great. It's really good.
Come on. What are you saying?
Okay. Right.
Steve Scuba. I wish he was a little more famous.
I did his, I know him all the time.
I mean, back in the day, he was super.
But now the younger generation doesn't know him as much.
Nope.
Okay.
My favorite line ever is that I quote all the time is from League of Her Own.
You see, the way it works is.
The station moves.
I fucked it up.
The train moves. The station doesn't.
Fuck the whole thing up.
And when he sees Marla for the first time,
and he goes,
yeah,
so good.
Alma Pau.
If it's about make your money,
why is Fantastic Four Thor Thunderbolt still in play?
There's a lot of mediocrity that has been YouTube led and still got more chances.
You know how you're talking about as far as look, again.
Oh, been white led, I think is what they're trying to say.
Yeah, I understand that.
But listen, again, Thor, you can't include in there.
You definitely can't.
include Thor. The other ones, I'll give you Fantastic Four in Thunderbolts. Thor made $800 million.
By the way, Phyllis for led by a Latino. Let's put that on the table. Yes. And so some
Thunderbolts, I mean, sorry, Fantastic for, I mean, Thor, you can't put in there, it made $800
million. So it is about making money. So that that's off the table. Fantastic for, you know,
you're talking about Thor being probably one of the worst movies that the MCA ever did. That's a different
conversation and I agree. However, Fantastic Four, they're leading, they were leading with Pedro Piscale,
who again as John said Latino and then it was going into also and the movie itself was given a shop because it's a big IP for a known comic book brand so they're off the table Thunderbolts is the one that's still in play right now you're also going off of what you're doing is you it's essentially a female led powerhouse in Elena right which is where you can make the argument of what they were trying to do there yeah but they also gave it a shot because they were going to call
at New Avengers and they thought they're pushing it forward off of the events of Captain America,
Brave New World was coming.
So those were still, those are hand in hand, the two of them.
And they were also made at the same time that Wonder Man and everything was made during that time.
It's what's being pushed forward now.
You want to make a ghost writer argument, then that to me is a better argument than those
particularly three.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We'll see what happens with that too.
Yeah, you got to see how it is.
Also, yeah, exactly.
Yeah.
Fiona George.
Really great for the Odyssey reaching $1 billion,
Spider-Man, almost at two bill.
Did you guys also see Dave Batista might be Kratos?
So we talked about that.
I don't know, John, are you on that one?
I'm not sure.
No, it might have been with Winston.
I think it's perfect casting.
I think there's a lot more behind that story.
But as far as the actual casting of crime,
I think that they probably always wanted him,
and I think that they probably maneuvered this poor guy out of it.
Even if you saw his cryptic kind of post on Instagram,
Yeah. So, yeah, I think, but I think he's perfect casting for it.
The question is, is he going to put on weight?
Because Dave's, like, lost a lot of that muscle weight.
He's trimmed down, slimmed down.
So will he want to put himself through that regime?
So it's going to be interesting to see if he does, man.
Okay, let's see.
Here we go.
This is DJ P-Y-B-K.
Word of the day.
What is that?
Pugnaciousness, yes.
Okay.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
pugnaciousness. All right, Maddie B. Thoughts on
detectives, my favorite of 2026. I still haven't seen it.
Do you see it? Still haven't seen it. No, I know it's on prime.
I'm going to see it. Brendan, hey Christian and John, did you hear that Netflix is
doing an extended look for Grand Theft Auto 6? I did not. If so, do you plan on watching?
It's just crazy how big this game is. He's going to be one the biggest games, if not the
biggest game of all time. Yeah, I probably will watch it. I probably will. I will.
You? Yeah, whenever they drop it.
Yeah. Fiona George, just curious, who is your favorite X-Men? I know Christian mentioned
before. My favorite is Wolverine.
But that being said,
you don't want him in the new movie.
Not yet. No, not yet. I agree.
And I'm with you. Wolverine's my favorite. However,
I have a soft
spot in my heart for Archangel,
which is what Angel became after
Apocalypse corrupted him.
I like that they took this kind of weak
ass character and they made him this
badass who shot Blade out of his wings.
And so to me, I really like
that about Archangel.
So yeah.
Robbie M. 1327. Hey, Christian Roker.
Are you going to be reacting to the full season of visions?
Ninth Jedi just came out.
No, I won't.
I probably will watch it because I really like,
because I really like the team that is putting together visions.
I think that they, I feel like they understand Star Wars even better than,
yeah, but that's another conversation.
But no, the reactions I think are,
if it was going to do it to pass.
And people honestly aren't clamoring for, even shit, man.
If I would have put a Star Wars reaction out about the neutral or
the original trilogy two, three years ago, would have probably done triple what they did now.
People just, and even with Sam on it, people just don't care as much about Star Wars anymore.
So that would just be a waste of resources, unfortunately.
I do want to watch it, though, because I like the team, and I'm sure it's going to be pretty good.
Yeah, I've heard it's really good.
Yeah, yeah.
Nathan Drake, is Black Adam worse than all the Transformers?
Doesn't really matter, does it?
All of them made more money than Black Adams.
That's not necessarily true, is it?
Is that true?
All of them made, Black Adam only made $4.50.
50. All of them, all of the Michael Bay Transformers movies.
Oh, that's, okay. There's a caveat. And Drake is low-key attacking.
All made more. No, even, but even, even, even Bumblebee made 467.
I love Bumble. That's my favorite one.
Brennan, has Sam watched Breaking Bad? If not, that'd be a great series,
do you reaction? She hasn't. We talked about this series. We're doing it next year,
and I have never seen Better Call Saul. So I think that what we're going to do is watch all
Breaking Bad, and it'll be a second time watch for me, the whole series, first time for her.
and then first time watch for both of us for better call us all uh zeus fleming what's up susu love the hawkeye
series i liked it a lot better the second time i watch it i love to see a movie or series that bring
back scarjo and renner and show us budapest and have that fall out of the impact elena and kate now thoughts
um i think that the time has passed unfortunately i i would have liked to see something of that too
but it's like again you'd have to probably i mean you don't necessarily have to deage them
but maybe you had to depending on how far back you go um what does it do it and this would be
See, the previous commenter, right?
Like, if they greenlit that, I'd say, well, why are they making that series?
Because to me, if you're going to cancel Wonder Man and other things,
it's because it's not really tying into the narrative of where you're going.
Why would you need to see a, you know, the Hawkeye and Black Widow series
to further the events of what's happening now?
I just don't think you would need it.
Well, I also think it's why would you ruin the thing that is in your mind?
Like they're never going to match what a lot of the fans believe happen in Budapest, right?
If you film it, then that's like, that's what happened.
And so I think it's a mistake.
Like the Staten Island thing with Punisher and Spider-Man,
I never want to see what happened in the Staten Island incident.
I like that it's a mystery and it adds a little more to the relationship.
So why?
Why would you ever want to see that?
Right.
I don't.
Zeus follows it up and says, shout out to you and John.
In your opinion, is Holland Spider-Man the best portrayal of a superhero?
ever? I don't know about ever, but I think
but I think he's my favorite Spider-Man.
Yes, I agree with that. He is my favorite Spider-Man. I think he's the most authentic
of all the three guys. The other two were bad.
He's had more time
to be able to portray them. And, you know,
he's done four movies.
Well, inside of the Spider-Man, for instance,
not including Infinity War and Civil War and, you know, endgame.
So,
I just think he
encapsured everything the really
young aspect. I think this now
cemented it with the older
kind of more getting more grizzled Spider-Man.
So yeah, I think he's the best.
Toby always felt like a 30-year-old playing a teenager.
Tom plays the teenager. It's great.
Totally.
Ron H.
So 10,000 Jules.
Rokos shouting, suck these nuts.
Yep, there you go.
These nuts.
So there is D.L.S.R.R.
It frustrates me that D.C. doesn't get their craft together.
Batman could and should be making these types of numbers like Spidey.
I don't know about these kinds of
members, but certainly in the discussion and ballpark, right? Because even a movie, even like Dark Night
Rises and all those, couldn't, couldn't get, and granted a different time period, but there is the
darker element that's harder to, when you have the more colorful, playful nature, you're opening
it up to more audiences and more families and everything to where it's harder to do that. I mean,
shit, the Batman I mentioned that I thought it was rated R for the Batman. Right. Right. It's not. It's
PG-13, but it's certainly, you can't take a, you can't take an eight-year-old to see that movie.
You know, you can't.
I couldn't take my eight-year-old to see it, but I could take my eight-year-old to see
this Spider-Man.
However, I don't disagree with your notion of it.
They should be focusing on Batman.
They should be focusing on Wonder Woman.
They should be focusing on these and stop at the side character nonsense.
I did they stop.
Yeah.
Sean McCabe, good afternoon, Jen.
What's up, Sean?
How did your weekends go?
Not bad.
Yeah, not bad.
I rested a lot, got better, not bad.
And I went to Barnes & Noble.
They had a 50% off sale, bro.
I got true romance.
I got weird science, and I got NARC.
And I have Excalibur coming, too.
So, yeah, good weekend.
78, good Monday, clue.
Just bought Nighthawks, an underrated slow movie,
499, Prime Good Movie.
I haven't seen a movie in such a long time.
That movie is so good.
Billy D. Williams and Rucker Howard.
I got to see it.
It's so good.
Hank Pimp, I don't even know if I've ever even necessarily saw all of it,
which back in the day, he used to watch all of Stallone stuff.
Bro, Hank, you shut up that reaction.
I know, I should.
If Asia Butterfield did get cast a Spidey back then,
do you think these movies would have been as successful?
And would he have become Mr. Zendaya as well?
That's a multiverse question.
You know what I mean?
That's a multi-vary.
I don't know.
I don't know.
That's like the same thing of like if they would have released the Eric Stoltz version of Back to the Future would have still done well.
You know, I don't know.
Greeny from Oz.
Support Derek Johnson.
I love that.
And then Jenny Lawson, 550.
Jules, stay hi, Jay.
Thank you, Jenny.
Appreciate your support as always.
Charles Boone, January of 2027,
reporting AI will be able to update every single day.
What will this mean for the movie business in the long term?
What does that mean?
January of reporting AI will be able to update everything.
Do you know what this means?
I could affect things sooner than 2030.
January of 27, reporting AI will be able to update every single day,
update what?
What will this mean for the movie business?
this long term. It could affect things sooner than 23.
Charles, I don't necessarily know what you mean there.
Like, what is it, what is it reporting? It'll be able to update.
Did you miss out, did you miss a word or something afterwards?
I'm just not sure Charles what you meant there.
But, yeah, yeah, is rapidly changing, obviously.
Mike Rios.
Well, Sam C. Harley Quinn before the Snyder cut.
You know, probably not.
You know, we're going to finish up.
I've been going back and forth with this, John.
And like, we're launching the Kickstarter.
It's probably going to, I was thinking, you know, we thought it was going to be September
or second, but there was just some things that we had to submit to Kickstarter.
It probably might be like the second week of September, which I'll know really soon when
exactly that is, but it's September.
So the question is we're going to start releasing some of our bigger IP reaction during
a time so I can spread the word more about the Kickstarter and everything.
And the Snyder cut will be during that time for sure.
But I don't know because we probably do Aquaman, but that comes after Snyder cut.
I might do the flash.
I don't know.
But then I'm not going to do Wonder Woman 84.
I know.
I'm not going to do Aquaman 2.
I'm not going to do.
I don't.
Shazan.
I don't know.
Probably not.
Probably not.
And then I'm probably going to move on to the X-Men movies because she hasn't seen any
the X-Men movies.
So I'll probably just do Snyder cut and maybe the first Aquaman and then the
Flash maybe.
And then that's it.
Yeah.
because now the Harley Quinn and the Suicide Squad is another one that I thought of though.
I really like and she'll love that movie, the Suicide Squad, but then again, do I do the other suicide squad?
I'm not sure.
I don't know.
Mike Reos, well, Sam, I don't even though.
Has Sam seen the last of us?
I think that she has.
I feel like she's seen season one at least.
Mike, if only the Aris descent was handled as well as an heiress, hopefully they'll have the budget to do season four, right?
Quite a few events.
I feel like they're definitely going to have the budget to do four because I think that, I think this season was,
way more
it was hyped up and I got people excited about it again
where two seemed to like lose people.
I think this one got people back on board.
I agree.
Yeah.
Go pal.
He's losing his mind and I'm reaping all the benefits.
Ronnie,
Gen X kid.
Hi guys.
Offering you some support.
Thank you, Ronnie.
For the best.
Lovitz and Wedding Singer.
Good luck.
Find someone who moves and shakes like this.
So good.
Hylnolmes, 582.
Kratos is humongously huge.
Shad Gaspard was the body model for him,
previously RIP.
I feel like Dave is similar realm of shape now.
You know, it's funny because he had lost weight,
but then for Highlander, it gained a lot back.
Oh, did he?
Okay.
So maybe he's in that frame now.
Yeah, I think so.
Ronnie, I do hope it's Jamie Lawson for Storm.
That is excellent casting.
Excellent.
Fire one.
She is a dark skin beauty.
thank you. Two, she's a phenomenal actress. I can see them launching her in Black Panther
Panther 3. I think everything you said there is accurate. I think that's exactly what's
going to happen. Yeah. Yep. Tom has commented on wanting to set up Miles,
is Miami. I am Jack's 12 Miami. And Sony has mentioned wanting Venom. Are they able to do both
of these next two movies? Possibly. Look, they're going to let Tom Holland do whatever he wants
now when it comes to producing. He had a lot to do with that producing and story in this next one.
So he's going to have even more power than he did on this one.
Yeah, he says he's already got a plan for setting up miles.
The venom thing, I don't know how much of that.
Because, I mean, Secret Wars is a place to launch venom.
So maybe, maybe.
Maybe.
Ronnie, the mutant metaphor also carries more weight now than ever.
That message lands hardest when the team is front and center,
not just one or two characters carrying the whole story.
Yeah.
Agreed.
Yeah.
John Oliver, he told us his real name, Drumpf, L-O-L.
Ronnie, what is that now?
I don't know if I missed that.
Trump's last name.
Oh, three left.
Three left.
All right.
Christian Medard.
I feel like Tyler Sheridan, just kidding,
four of a lot,
has some of the best shows on TV
this new season of Lioness is so good,
and Mayor of Kingston's a great show.
I keep hearing great things about all these things.
I've never seen a lot of...
I love Lioness.
I haven't started season three yet
because the Lady Alon has a rule
that we don't start until half a season's gone up,
but I may sneak around and watch those,
but I'm looking forward to it.
Uh-oh.
You don't get yourself in trouble.
Oh, yikes, Daniel.
I'm anticipating Harry Potter reactions.
Will Sam be joining you for the television show?
Yes, that's what, that's my goal.
My goal is to get all the, because I think the Harry Potter show comes out in December.
Yes.
My goal is I'm trying to get all those movies done before them.
We're going to, the goal is to go from X-Men into Harry Potter.
Hmm.
Yeah.
Ronnie, done with intention, this run could hit differently for black audiences,
and anyone who has ever felt like an outsider.
I think that's what, I think that's kind of why I'm not just calling, like, you know, saying,
oh, what's Marvel doing?
I think that they have a plan for this.
This is exactly, because this is the one franchise that it was,
was meant this is what this is meant for this is meant for people on the outside and people who
were shunned away from society to shine um ron h the invite already on torrent gell
d'arady probably not far behind i think the invite oh no i need to watch the invite uh sucks
they didn't do better in the theaters that one i it's a smaller movie invite i heard was was
great i've heard that one john i've heard that one yes good great yeah i know that the one what the
what was the what was the one with uh what was the one was in day and paus you know what was
in day and Patinson. Oh, the drama. That's on HBO Max now. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Geek Loads Stars. I don't know if you would do it, but I'd love to see you and Sam react to
Troopers, the parody of cops in Star Wars. I believe they only made one video. Yeah, I mean,
again, like I said, we're not living in 2015 anymore. You know, it will mean anything you'd
put like Star Wars content. Everybody was like rushing to see it. It's like, that's why I tell John,
I'm like, anytime he does Jedi away, I'm like, God bless you. I'm like, I can't. Yeah. We haven't done it in
months that should tell you something right right um love it's always did that one okay all right so i think
that's everything for now 84 questions did pretty damn good um john oh what you got going on are
two more okay okay all right go pal and then ronnie finish up or so i see it i see it all right go pal
have you have you where is it light up light up it's not light up oh this why isn't it lighting up
Hold on a second.
It's weird.
I know.
That baby.
Hold on.
Thank you.
Did Luke do that?
No, we did that one already.
Yeah.
There we go.
Go, pal.
Have you tried not being a mutant?
Is that from...
X2.
That's his parents to Ice Man.
Oh, okay.
Ronnie.
Two, as long as it doesn't come off as heavy-handed and written while, the X-Men movies could be winner.
I agree with you.
One of the many reasons I'm joining X-Men 97.
I got to watch that season two.
I watched episodes one and two
and liked it, but I hear it's great.
Yeah, it's good.
It's kind of, the last couple episodes haven't been as strong.
Okay.
Yeah, yeah, because it started strong
and then it just kind of has tailed off here in the middle,
in my opinion.
So we'll see what people think.
All right, Junkey, me breakdown.
What's going on?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Head on over there.
YouTube.com slash John Roker says,
please head on over to my YouTube channel.
So much happening there.
Trying to get to 50,000 subscribers
so I can get the creatives coming on to be interviewed by me.
And that apparently is the number.
So please help me.
that YouTube.com slash John Roker says the hot mic the geek buddies spill the tequila my reactions
and reviews the truth coming the truth and then the verdict coming soon come hang out with that and also
the Cinephiles Cinephiles wherever you download YouTube channel uh sorry whatever you download podcast

happy Monday everybody enjoy yourselves today love thank you John Roker oh and John will be back on
Wednesday with
Winston. I'm going to confirm that
with him again, but Winston and John will be
on on Wednesday. Tomorrow I'll be on here with Mike.
Thursday. We will be on
with Chris Carr. Friday will be Winston again.
And the next week, I'm going to be off, but John will be
on here. Probably doing a solo on Monday. Tuesday would be
Roxy and Mike. Next
Wednesday will most likely be
Winston and
Roca again.
potentially. I don't remember. And then, or I got to figure that out. I got to figure that.
But Thursday then will be Winston and Chris and then Friday to Winston and Chris. So I got to figure out next Wednesday. Maybe, maybe won't be Roka and Winston because I don't know if this I'll be able to do both those.
Let me get to there are a few more that came in. Super Troopers behind Beer Fest, Broken Lizard. Yeah. I know. Yeah, yeah, for sure. And I have friends who are good friends with them.
Ronnie. Have a great day. Guys. Stay cool. You too, Ronnie. Thank you for all your support as always. And then,
Ron H. Ronnie Gen X kidder. Okay, being cool. Ron, you say beer fest like it's a bad thing, says Go, pal.
And then Charles Boone, AI being able to update itself on a daily basis. Ah, how will that affect the movie industry before 2030? Thank you. That makes sense.
I mean, look, there was a quote from Brad Pitt said, like, there were going to be things that help smaller movies get made because of AI. And there are things that I think that there's just certain things that people are just so anything I had that get so.
no, we can't let this be part of the business. And I think that like anything else, there's an
abuse aspect of it and there's a laziness aspect of it that we hope and unfortunately will
happen with some people. But there are things and there's certain tools that I think will be able
to assist and help people get things done. But it's just a matter of that battle between people who
just have one idea of it and just are so against it and others who are willing to give it a chance.
and then there's other people who just want to abuse it.
So it's just, it's finding that balance.
Ron H. Go pal, beer fest is pure awesomeness.
I haven't seen that in so long.
I don't even know if I saw the whole thing.
Guys, appreciate you.
Thank you so much.
