Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, everybody. Welcome back to the big fan, Christian Harloff, and we have a great show today. Mark Ellis and Kate Mulligan are here. We're going to be talking about the sad passing of comedy legend, Norm MacDonald, Succession Season 3. Trailer dropped, who watches it, who doesn't. What movies are worth a damn? The many scenes in Newark coming up right around the corner. So much to talk about here today and why Mark Ellis had so much fun in Las Vegas. You can actually hear him from that far away. Look at the camera, honey. You want to see a lot of Mark and myself. So I'm being professional. Let's get that in frame there. October 8th, ladies and gentlemen. October 7th, Mark will be at the New York Comedy Club.
Starting point is 00:00:43 October 8th, I will be there with him. October 9th, we are going to be Schmodeown. It's going to be in Brooklyn at the roulette. So please go get your tickets. The links are in the description of this video. And one last wonderful thing. Los Angeles I'm going to finally do a set here in Los Angeles
Starting point is 00:01:03 haven't done a set in L.A. and maybe since 2010 or something in Burbank for sure at Flappers Comedy Club. That's their Woodratch. You know what's funny? They have Gallic rolls. You know what's funny?
Starting point is 00:01:12 Is it these two idiots? It's like, Mark him in here, he hasn't been happy. He's been miserable for the entire time that he's been here. Now the camera goes on and all of a sudden he's a happy person. I like the rolls at Woodratch. It's all bullshit.
Starting point is 00:01:26 It's all bullshit, ladies and gentlemen. That's... Listen on the side of the salad. That's the kind of show we're going to be in here for today, ladies and gentlemen. I'm excited for you. Oh, pop-up ads. Okay. Good luck to you all.
Starting point is 00:01:37 We're starting to fall back and forth. Let's just get into this thing, Leah. There we go. All right, guys, great show. Thanks for joining us. We're bailing. I'll see you next week. No.
Starting point is 00:01:51 It's a pleasure to have you. Ladies and gentlemen, we're back on the big thing. It's me, Christian Arloff. Thank you for everyone. everybody who's been joining the show. We have crossed 15,000 subscribers. Thank you so very much. Damn right.
Starting point is 00:02:06 And someone who's crossed 15,000 subscribers with me before. The one and only. Came all again. I was sure it was going to be Alex. Yeah, it was. I hit the wrong button. Mark Ellis is here. Nice to happen.
Starting point is 00:02:17 I did come in a little, not miserable. I came in stressed, I would say, is the right word. And most of it is stress bleeding over from the events of last night. Well, not last night. I can't for, for, you're talking about on, I'm just, I'm just being honest, all right? I don't know when these things air. That doesn't matter. It's like, every time we tape a Shmowdown match, it's like, all right, right, right, when is this air?
Starting point is 00:02:40 Am I going to be alive then? Right. Except for they're all taped live. They're all taped live. That's right. And you hear that lovely voice and that is. It's me. It's my voice.
Starting point is 00:02:51 That sounds awful. Yeah. It didn't feel good either. It wasn't great. You know, as I'm going to, she gets, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, She gets big when it gets the three shot. Yeah. Kate gets excited when I'm here.
Starting point is 00:03:04 And so she tends to float. It's good to have you. Mark Ellis, I have to, I would thank the great Mark Ellis for having me on tomatoes. I think at this point, it comes out this week, right? It's going to drop, again, we got to be, it drops three days from today. Yeah, I think it's three days from today. Look at today is Monday. Today is Monday.
Starting point is 00:03:23 And that's going to drop Thursday where Christian George, Jacqueline and myself talk about that painting that he's got in two different spots. That's fine. I'm seeing, I'm seeing double. There's. There's she. There's one.
Starting point is 00:03:38 You actually have a camera just on it. No, no. It looks like I do, but I don't. That's why I wanted to do that. That's great. Christian is just looking at the feed when he's in his main house,
Starting point is 00:03:48 when he's in his main quarters. I'm not going to lie to you. Sadie's trying to pass out and he's just looking at it on his phone. Like, I love Hugh Horst. When I was watching both Rogue One and the suicide squad, my eye drifted. it off many different times just looking at the painting itself.
Starting point is 00:04:01 It's a beautiful piece of work. It's a beautiful piece of work. My favorite is that we're looking over there when there's one right behind me as well. Yeah, he wanted to make sure that wherever he looked, he could see the horse. He was tired of craning his neck around. So for people wondering, why do you have two of those, you lunatic? The wonderful company, it's called Radical, is the name of the place that made these, to have these paintings.
Starting point is 00:04:23 And I forgot that in the Sopranos. Well, why don't you tell him what your complaint was first? Well, I'm about to. In The Sopranos, there is that moment, there is that moment where Polly, he doesn't like, Tony has the glass and he's got the class up and he's, and he's looking basically a Polly right in the face. And Polly goes to the artist and he says, look, I want you to change this thing up. But I want you to make the face not as recognizable. And he makes it like, it's like faded and stuff. And that's what they did.
Starting point is 00:04:54 And the thing. And so I took a picture. I said, is this thing a little faded? And I sent it to Radical. I'm like, yeah, it looks a little faded. We'll send you another one. They say it's exactly the same, because it's supposed to be. And it's, it's beautiful because the horse is fine.
Starting point is 00:05:05 You aren't running a con. You genuinely, but also when you opened it when Sadie was like, who is that? You're not supposed to talk from the camera. That's right. It's when it's story time. No, they were great. And they sent it over. So I'm going to put one in my office.
Starting point is 00:05:20 I was originally thinking about giving it to the Smets, but I'm not going to. Yeah, he beat cancer. No, no, we need to do now. you need to call the company again. They'll go, I gotta be honest, she sent me another one as faded. They're just gonna be like,
Starting point is 00:05:32 here's another one. I love, they were, they were great. And I, I love, I mean, it's,
Starting point is 00:05:37 it's like my prize possessions. I was going to say possession. Then I said, go plural. These two paintings have taken a place of Kate and I in your heart. Oh yeah. I could do a show.
Starting point is 00:05:49 I have done a show by myself with just the paintings. Do not doubt it at all. Yeah. It's a lot fun. I tell you, it is, it has been fun to just be able to
Starting point is 00:05:57 sit here without having to worry about you being late or you know it's so funny though you weren't late today you aren't actually not so interesting I said to you I yeah I said to you hey I have to do a COVID test this morning because I got a procedure on Monday I said and I said hey so I got a 940 COVID test I'll be there as soon as I can but 1045 probably safe I get here at 1037 look at you and guess what what your other show is still going and you he respond thank you thank you That's the Christian we know. He says, just aim for 10.30. If we have to, we'll push to 1040.
Starting point is 00:06:32 This man out here trying to make me get a ticket on the way here. No. What I know is the fact that if I tell you get here at a certain time, you'll get here. Not if I have a 940 COVID test. I'm already in my... I think he's a colon test. I do have a colon test on Monday, the colonoscopy. Oh, and we're below 15,000 subscribers.
Starting point is 00:06:51 Well, we had it. We had it. Flew too close to the sun there. They were talking about assholes and I was out. the kind of assholes I like to talk about. I didn't say I was getting a colonoscopy to figure out my chronic diarrhea. I didn't say that. Is that why?
Starting point is 00:07:06 Yeah. Yeah, the wings are made of wax, Icarus. It looks like you're walking to subway. Wait a minute. So I want to jump back first into the Rotten Tomatoes thing because I was on Thursday. So Mark and I, we had a great conversation with Jacqueline about Sopranos. Really, again, and it air is obviously Peacock. You can see it a simulcast on Peacock, Roku, YouTube, and then you can also listen to it.
Starting point is 00:07:32 You can download the podcast. Rotten Tomatoes is wrong, wherever you enjoy a podcast. And it was fun because we only had about, you, we tried to do about an hour, but we're talking about six and a half seasons of Sopranos. But I think that we gave a nice gloss over all of it, but we got deep into what we loved about the show, what we are excited about with the Many Saints of Newark, the prequel. And so we kind of got a nice light dusting of everything.
Starting point is 00:07:55 A couple deep dives in there. So speaking of many scenes of Newark and Mark and I for shit, 10 some odd years had this, we're working off the Shmows, no email together, right? So we, so we came to screenings and all the screenings would come through it and I still have that account. And I will talk to the studios and I had reached out because I'm still not going to the movie theaters yet. It's not what I'm doing.
Starting point is 00:08:17 And I reached out to see if there was a Many Saints in Newark. And they sent me, which is every screening now, of course now, every screening because the Arclight doesn't really exist right. now every screening is at century city every screening yeah um but i'm not going to screenings right now it's where my gym is is in century city it's great it's equinox it's right next to eatily oh yeah yeah yeah that's counterproductive isn't it yeah now i look at it as balance true it's fair you can just get a chicken dish um but anyway so i reach out to many saints in new work and they offer me the thing and then i then they offer me i go well can i get a screening link i said i don't know if this helps
Starting point is 00:08:55 and I sent the picture. That's hilarious. And she wrote, that's amazing. Is this Mark or Christian? And I was going to lie. And say, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:03 I was going to lie and say Mark, but I was like, why? Why would you lie? You have more status. I don't know. You're rotten tomatoes guy now? Look at you.
Starting point is 00:09:11 Peacog? Yeah. Kind of moving. Yeah. I always say I'm Mark Ellis. Do you? That's why. Always.
Starting point is 00:09:17 That's why those junk mail. Yeah. Just get all these different things. Yeah. It's true. Do you know my daughter might suffer from what you have? Is she a Washington fan?
Starting point is 00:09:27 Loudness. Oh, okay. Like, you know, when you don't realize, like, when it's like the Austin Powers thing where you can't control the volume of your voice. I don't know what you're talking. Right. She can't do it.
Starting point is 00:09:35 And she even said it the other. I know how to project. I had so much, I had so much respect for her. This is the dog. I had so much respect for her that I was like, she kept some, both my wife and the youngest were sleeping still. And so she's talking to the dog and she's like, Dad, you know, I was thinking, I'm going to drive it's apple juice.
Starting point is 00:09:51 And I'm like, Bibb, sh. And then five seconds later, Dad, you know what I was doing? I'm like, shh, you got to stop. You're going to wake everybody up. But she goes like this. She goes, Dad, I talk loud.
Starting point is 00:10:04 It's what I do. I know how to project because I know how to perform. I am not the guy you got to worry about when, if like we all go out to dinner, I'm not the guy you got to worry about like talking too loud. Or like telling a joke too out or being at, like, I actually like talking lower at tables. Like I'm the one that's telling people,
Starting point is 00:10:21 hey, I'm right here. Yeah. We don't need. And not everybody in this restaurant is to hear our conversation. It's your natural voice, though. I know how to. This is a natural volume. It's,
Starting point is 00:10:29 I would not, I would not feel comfortable having a conversation with you while my kids were sleeping. What I am telling you is that I, what you're saying, you sound like Snoke talking to Kylo Redd. You're telling me I have raw, untamed power. 100%. And I'm telling you,
Starting point is 00:10:44 I know how to harness it because I have the helmet of my dead grandpa, and I look at it from time to time. Yeah, and it gives me strength. I think Kylo thought he could control the force, too. And it didn't always work out. It worked out of the last movie, he got a smooch. Yeah, he did. He did.
Starting point is 00:10:58 He got a nice. Yeah, they craps out. He got a slunk. We all know death doesn't mean anything in Star Wars. Also true. Yeah. You got a nice kiss. He's taking a nap.
Starting point is 00:11:06 He's a great force guy. I know, I know this isn't Sith Council, because we just did this whole thing. We watched Rogue One, which is on the channel now. That's where Kirk and Picard meet 100%. I don't know how we talked about it when we reviewed it. I know we both liked it a lot. But it's hands down my favorite Star Wars movie, the Disney era, hands down. Really?
Starting point is 00:11:31 It's, it doesn't even compare. What's funny is that it doesn't feel, if I had to, if I was watching the movies and I'd be like, all right, you got to name which four movies came out during the Disney era? Rogue One would not be the one. Not back then. That I would be like, that looks like the one that Walton Goofy had a hand in. No, no. It's so.
Starting point is 00:11:49 There's so much to it. And Mike and myself and Steph did a whole deep dive on it, so we don't have to do it here but it just it the tone of it it's to me the things that I really like about the mandolarian play here and I think that sure and one of the main points that we made that I think that they had the advantage of of where the disadvantage came with with both j.J. and Ryan Johnson is that they had to continue in in a lure of characters that we knew and and expectations right where even though Rogue one has leading to the Death Star and all that these are a brand new characters, there's no expectations of them.
Starting point is 00:12:25 And the same way, Mandalorian. Yeah. All new characters, all these, no expectations. So it, and I don't know, maybe because I was blasting the surround sound, the way they did for the suicide squad, maybe every movie I'm going to watch from now and has to be back here because I'm finding myself just like loving being, I don't know, just being by here and just chilling out. Are you hanging out with Mary Jane at all?
Starting point is 00:12:44 Not for this one. Oh. Not for this one. Not for this one. Because that makes every movie. The suicide squad 100%. Oh. Everybody, have you watched it yet?
Starting point is 00:12:53 Oh, my mom. Oh, hell yes. No, I've not. No, it's off the max now, too. And I told you. I warned you. I warned both of you. She listened.
Starting point is 00:13:04 I listened. You'd like it, man. I have no doubt. I would love it. Yeah. I just don't, you know, I, it's, now we're in the season. So there's a lot less and I have a lot of, and I have a lot of work. I was in Vegas.
Starting point is 00:13:16 I'm not going to take, we're not going to take two and a half hours from the festivities in Vegas. Right. To be like, oh, hey, we're having a great time. I'm up at the tables. I got to go watch this movie before it leaves HBO Max, and I'll be right back. Understood. I have a life to live.
Starting point is 00:13:29 You told me, you told me you were going to watch it before you went to Vegas. Like, no, you're not. I said I was going to do my best, I believe. You said you were going to watch it. Which means I'm going to do my best. Your best is for shit. Have you seen that?
Starting point is 00:13:39 Pretty much. You can hold that up to the camera? Which one? No, the other one. Clockwork orange, 50th anniversary. This was a mistake to watch, I will say. You've ever seen. Have you ever seen F9?
Starting point is 00:13:49 Woo. Um, no. No. No. It's amazing what we've become. The two of us. The natural evolution. It really?
Starting point is 00:13:59 He went like this. Now, what's worse? What's worse? Can't give me this for a second? So what's worse? The guy, the host of Rotten Tomatoes hasn't watched it or the guy who has the Blu-ray. What's worse? I mean, again, I'm like, just because I host stuff on Rotten Tomatoes, it doesn't mean that it doesn't mean I need to see every new movie that comes out.
Starting point is 00:14:21 But what I'm, but think about what you just said. It's a kid. No, think about what you just said. You were on a show called Rotten Tomatoes. Right. That called Rotten Tomatoes is wrong. Fine. But you're still on Rotten Tomatoes,
Starting point is 00:14:32 which pretty much reviews everything. Yeah. Right. And you don't watch everything. Yet, you're on a show called Schmo's No. And you watched everything. You are making the mistake of thinking that Rotten Tomatoes is a per is an entity where it's like, oh, you were right to me, you see everything.
Starting point is 00:14:47 It's like, Rottenmato is a scoreboard. The Tomatoes is a scoreboard. And if I was influencing that scoreboard without seeing the movie, that would be a problem. If I was saying, oh, it's the best one of this franchise. And that's why Vegas was fun. There are being movies that are being watched. But Schmose. But anyway, we watched a lot of stuff.
Starting point is 00:15:06 Rogue One. Yes, Bill. Cassie and Andor. The way that that guy maneuvers his way through the rebellion, it's a good movie. My uncle texted me last night after the game or three, four nights ago after the game. And because we're all trying to calm down and stuff. And he's like, I think I'm going to go. I think I'm going to wind down with a nice fast and furious movie.
Starting point is 00:15:24 That's how you do it. I'm going to watch it. I think that's my next one to watch back here. I mean, I want to see it. I want to watch it. So tell me about Vegas. Ken told me he didn't get a chance to go up, but he said it was a blast. It was just a great, great week.
Starting point is 00:15:39 It's Brad Garrett's Comedy Club as far as performing nightly. And then you also have so many, I mean, 15, 20 people coming into town just like on various nights, hanging out, saying hi. Brad Garrett, obviously. Nobody else doing sets. Oh, just you and Brad? Just, no, no, Brad was, Brad wasn't there that weekend. So it was me and, you know, Quinn Dale, very funny comedian?
Starting point is 00:16:00 No, were you funny comedy? Quinn was. And so then I, so it's me and Quinn. But I mean, everybody knows about the same amount of time. Okay. He was just going last. What is it? How long?
Starting point is 00:16:10 25, 30. And then Stephen Roberts, who's a very funny comic out of Vegas. Both him and Quinn live in Vegas. And so then I came in and we did did shows and hung out with people afterwards. And it's weird to get back to L.A. and be like, well, you wake up in the morning. You're like, well, how am I going to have a day unless I don't have, you know, I need to have five beers in a Lazy River before I really start the process. Were you really playing blackjack?
Starting point is 00:16:35 Oh, yeah. How did you do? I love playing blackjack. I did. I was doing well in the real tables. I left with a bunch of chips because I made the classic Beck's mistake. I'm like, oh, I'll cash him out tomorrow. So I probably have $500 in like tickets and chips that are in my bag right now that I'll use the next time I go to Vegas.
Starting point is 00:16:55 Vegas for people that don't know. If you leave up $5, you've won in Vegas. Because you should always, that's what people don't understand if you've never been to Vegas or Atlantic City or anywhere. You should always go prepared to lose. Always. Always go with a mentality of I am going to spend X amount of dollars. And that's what I'm going to. I'm going to leave with, I'm going to be down this amount,
Starting point is 00:17:19 and you will not be disappointed if you go in that. Because if you go up, but if you, but you're also spending so much money on other things. You're just not even thinking about at the time. So you basically need to be up, five, six, $700 at the table. True. Just to balance out what you did that day or what you're going to do that night. But are the drinks free in the casino still?
Starting point is 00:17:37 Yes, when you're at the table. When you're at the table. So you may get one or two drinks if you're playing for an hour. Oh. And so then you make that classic gam. mistake of, well, I'm down 50, but I got a corsela like coming any minute. Right. So it's like, no, just run.
Starting point is 00:17:53 Just run. He waits for the course. Just get the hell out. Meanwhile, they give away Coors Light anywhere you go. Yeah. People on the street hangs out. Please drink this. All I'm going to say is that the Brad Garrett's Comedy Club green room is very
Starting point is 00:18:06 Contributory to my needs. I'm sure. So that's, I mean, how long is that club? What casino is it in? It's in the MGM Grand. That's great. And they... And that's where you were staying.
Starting point is 00:18:19 Yeah. I was staying, I was... But, okay, so I was staying at the signature, which is right, which is like the fancier MGM. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:24 And it's right, so you have the MGM Grand Casino and Hotel. Then you have the signature towers, which are connected to it. Yeah. By a lengthy walk. And I was in Tower 3, which is the furthest tower from the MGM.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Right. So every time I walk to go meet people in the MGM or to go, it's at least an, it's a mile walk. It's fun. Each way. So you're walking 20 miles just from your room over there. And then back.
Starting point is 00:18:45 So I, pretty much walked off all of the beer weight that I would have gained the entire week. We went to this place a couple of times called Nacho Daddy, which is just a nacho feast. Like I have Nacho Daddy. Yeah. And my God, just, oh, the nachos. What's, you went to Morton's. Just speak slowly.
Starting point is 00:19:06 You know, cheeseburger nachos. Okay. Yeah. Did not go to Morton's, though. That was at Tom's Urban were those short-ripped tacos. I just send Christian a picture of the menu every time I get short-ripped tacos. So my MGM, I've been to a couple of fights at MGM. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:20 Oh. Yeah. Oh, in my head, I was like, what happened? No. Christian versus the pit boss, three rounds. I'm pretty sure, and probably someone could Google it, tell me if I was wrong. I know I've been to a few fights at the MGM, but I think the one that I went to the one I remember was Bernard Hopkins versus, oh my God. And the guy who beat him.
Starting point is 00:19:44 Oh, my God. Dude, I can't never play Shmode out anymore. I can't even... Pernell Sweet P. Whitaker. I'm losing my mind. And he rest in peace. No. Andre the Giants fight.
Starting point is 00:19:55 And he lost, and he lost. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. And I won a lot of money on the guy that I can't remember his name. Man, how's that guy feeling about that? Seriously, it was... Did you a big favor? Five, right?
Starting point is 00:20:08 This is how you replaying? Jermaine Taylor, for God's sakes. Germaine Taylor, it was July 16, 2005. Classic. Where was it? an upset? Yes, it was an upset. I mean, it was for the title and he won the title and I was at, I was at them. And it was at MGM, I think. I just saw it. Right? Yes, it was at the MGM. I was right about that. I just couldn't remember the guy's name. Jermaine Taylor. Oh, good. I was, I'm glad I was the one on camera that whole time. You were just kind of watching Christian Google his way through it. Fuddled trying to figure out. I was kind of trying to figure out of it. I know. I don't know. Honestly, that could be, that could be F4. I got there. I got there. I went down the past. I was like you trying to find out. I was like you. I was like you. I was like, that could be F4. I can't see the nine, so it doesn't matter. I thought it was like the whole thing,
Starting point is 00:20:49 because it says F9, the Fast Saga, and I'm like, is this the whole thing? It's all nine movies. It's just, yeah. Yeah, I'm excited to see that one. I mean, I am over the moon to see it. Everybody says the same. You kidding me?
Starting point is 00:20:59 Everybody says the same thing about it, though, when I tell them I haven't seen it, they go, well, it's definitely a fast and furious movie. It's gotten to that point now. It got to that point four movies ago for me, which is kind of why I'm like, yeah, I'll see it when I see it. It's like, I know what I know what I'm getting into.
Starting point is 00:21:13 You know what's coming. And you talk about death not being necessarily relevant to Star Wars movies Where it's like, yeah, you could die But you don't worry, you'll come back and there'll be a blue light around you You'll give a couple lines to the kids and you can, you know, go chill in the green room This people die all the time and they just come back So it really doesn't matter. Vin Diesel could die at the end of this movie.
Starting point is 00:21:32 We don't know. Is he really? No, he's coming back. Well, John Cena is in this one. Apparently he's not good in this one. So I'm glad that I saw, I don't know. That's just from a few people. I didn't necessarily he's not good in it, but his character wasn't.
Starting point is 00:21:43 But I'm glad I saw the suicide squad Because it is hands down the best thing he's ever done Even better than train wrecked. I love to be train wrecked. He's great in that movie. Blockers, liked him in? Yeah, he was good in Blockers also. Yes.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Yes, with Ike. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So all of it, it's, uh, there's that I want to watch. There's some more, finally, I'm through the first half of Black Widow. I have to finish the second half. Good. You didn't see that one either? I did see it.
Starting point is 00:22:08 Oh, okay. So in the movie theater. Florence Pugh. Yes. Best part of it, I'm guessing. I like it so far. She's great. I want to see where it goes.
Starting point is 00:22:15 She's unbelievable. She's, I wish she didn't have such a loser boyfriend. Was her boyfriend? I hear it's Zach Brath. Oh, you really, you do not like Zach Brown.
Starting point is 00:22:23 I hate, is that, is that because of Bonnie or? No. No. Why do you know? Oh, you've met him.
Starting point is 00:22:31 He's the worst. I was nice to me when I met him. Because I don't know. He probably didn't think you, I don't know. I don't know what he thought. Why don't you like him? Why don't I like him?
Starting point is 00:22:41 Because nobody's ever been. is rude to me. Really? As that human being. Oh, man. And twice. There was two chances for him to not. Was it sarcasm or was he just a horrible?
Starting point is 00:22:51 No, he's just a horrible. Just look, just Google and see if I'm saying anything that everybody else hasn't said. Wow. Kate Mogan, Zach Browgan. It's just me. And we turned out, it's like, it's true. Kate has said that on everywhere she's been. Google says that anywhere she's gone, she's taking a shot.
Starting point is 00:23:07 We have my space posts of Kate. I'm telling you, if Lawrence Pugh's out of the top eight. If Florence Pugh ends up. with him. You're going to be upset. They don't really ever end up with anyone. What would make you more upset if she ended up with him or if Steph ended up with him? Steph would never.
Starting point is 00:23:22 I don't know. You ever hear Steph's dating problems? She would never put up with this. Because Steph doesn't like when, yeah, she doesn't like when like little people. Like when the people that are like. Everybody in Hollywood is a little person. She doesn't like Tom Cruise?
Starting point is 00:23:37 No, no. Okay. Whoops. Sorry. To be clear. Al Pacino. People without status. Stalone.
Starting point is 00:23:44 She's, Steph's not going to be rude to a waiter. Stuff's not going to be rude to a butt. Like, Steph, she's like that, this dude.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Really? Eats. I tip well. And I talk loud. And I let everybody know I tip well. In the restaurant. I'm gonna be, you see how much I tipped him?
Starting point is 00:23:59 That's right. She, he, no, but you do that. I've been in the restaurant. We were walking out and he said it because he's got a loud voice,
Starting point is 00:24:06 but he knew he'd be heard. He's like, Hey, buddy, you see how much I tipped you? Then he walked right out. And the guy said, let him know. I did give him 50 grand.
Starting point is 00:24:13 You want them to know. 50 grand. We used some chips. Just let some chips. In Park MGM chips. Monopulent money. Yeah. That was it.
Starting point is 00:24:20 I've been to Vegas twice. Ever? Yeah. Once was to campaign for Obama in 2008, so I didn't really do Vegas. And the other time was this past week when I hit out in Ellis's room and just stared at him sleeping. So you've only been there once. I've only been there once.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Yeah. I've only been there once. I got really high the first night. I was there by myself. And I was like, well, look, I got people coming in out of town. I don't want to drink any alcohol. I know what's going to happen later in the week.
Starting point is 00:24:43 And so I got, I can't remember what I was watching. But I was like, just trying to pass on. I get up and I go to take a pee and I was convinced that there was a spirit like right behind me. Oh, you told me that. Yeah. And then I watched malignant. I did see malignant.
Starting point is 00:24:56 And that movie's bonkers. That's what I heard. Yeah. I'm excited to watch that one. It's bonkers. And I like the kind of bonkers it is because it is a real throwback to 80s horror movies where the acting is, uh, and the writing. But the premise is very.
Starting point is 00:25:11 very interesting. And every 10 to 15 minutes, you just peel back another layer of what's actually going on. And so what I liked about it, without giving anything away, is it's the first 30 minutes of the movie, it's just me and Molly watching it. I'm like, uh, this is going to be, um, this is going to be a hard one to fall asleep to because this is going to give me some nightmares here. By the end of the movie, I'm like, Molly, I think we're good. I think we're good. And it's just the way that events unfold. It doesn't mean that it was less scary at the end. It just means that for the way that my specific brain works. Yeah. My, I don't believe in this shit, but I don't not believe in it when I watch the exercise.
Starting point is 00:25:46 So don't spoil it, but give me a little premise of what it's about. So this woman is, she's in a relationship where they're struggling to procreate and it's driving a big wedge in between them. Her husband's got his drinking issues. And then an event happens and she starts to have all of these things go wrong in the community where these people who she's worked with back, back deep in her past. are getting picked off. And it's like, what the hell is happening? It's like, not really, but it's like, wait, I knew you from this. And then that and then we have cops that are trying to piece together what's happening.
Starting point is 00:26:25 Is she a suspect? And what's going on here? What is this force that we see glimpses of that is actually doing these things? What is behind these salacious acts? And it ends up being Kylo Renz. It ends up being Kylo Renz. But Mark, so there, James Wonger, You didn't like that.
Starting point is 00:26:42 You know. He didn't want to go down that right because I have questions about this movie. We're driving on the highway. You've seen. Kate's on Arby. She's like, hey, Christian, I'd like some curly fries. And Christian's like, we're not stopping yet. We're not a grandma.
Starting point is 00:26:53 Not yet. Not yet. Because I want to know, because you and I, we've been through the horror thing together. You know which ones I like. You know the kind of movies I like. I'll say we've been through it like it's over. It's not over until you watch the 1982, Kurt Russell Classic. True.
Starting point is 00:27:06 If you can't let it go, then I don't know what the time. I haven't seen this and it's been out for six months. You haven't seen The Thing, and it's been out since you were four. There's a lot of movies you haven't seen, buddy. You didn't see, you didn't see. I got buddy. You didn't see the Princess Bride until like six years ago. I still haven't seen cool runnings.
Starting point is 00:27:22 I mean, I got some. That's all right. I got some maps. Oh, I heard it's great. I mean, that's not like one of the ones that, like, it's a good movie. Yeah, but I love sports. Yeah. I love it.
Starting point is 00:27:30 It's a good movie, but it's not like, that's not the first thing. I mean, I understand. I never seen crap about the, again, as much as I love rad, yeah, I understand that, like, when the thing I get, like you know what's the most appalling gap to you in my movie now is it is it f9 i would love to have this conversation yeah and we should but i want i need to find out some things yeah i've been buddy by him like four times in my life come buddy get us together uh so james juan james won is one of my favorite directors because he knows because the guy can direct the shit out of a
Starting point is 00:28:00 he he knows how to creep you and crawl you and scary without just relying on jump scares and all that shit so is that why this movie's so good i'll tell you this buddy No, you can't, you can't buddy me back. You got to, you got to figure something. You should have thrown chief in there. I'll tell you this guy. Yeah, better. I said, you know, I did that once.
Starting point is 00:28:19 I said, I did that once. I can't remember who I did it to. Someone in the family. And I said, I was like, come on, guy. She's like, don't guy him. Yeah. Don't guy him. All right, wait, ask me the question again.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Yeah, yeah, I got a good one. Okay. So how does James, is it, it's all because of James won, right? I'll tell you this, Jack. Yeah, there you get some jumps in there. Hit me, skip. But you also have some really cool practice. effects.
Starting point is 00:28:41 Yeah. And so it really does feel like one of those movies that my sister and I would wait until my parents are asleep on a Friday or Saturday, sneak down to the basement, put on USA Up All Night horror movie hosted by either Gilbert Godfried or Joe Bob Briggs, Monster Vision, and that's what you get with this movie. I'm excited to see it. I actually, you know, there's not very many horror films I like, okay, got to watch it. But I, James Wan is one of those directors that doesn't matter what it is.
Starting point is 00:29:07 I want to check it out because I just think he's that good. and he puts care into all of his movies. And Conjuring is some of my favorite horror films, you know, the first two. It was third one. He didn't direct, but the third one was fine. He had a blast making this movie. You can tell how much money is. You can believe it from everything that he's done.
Starting point is 00:29:25 But, all right, going back to that conversation with Biggest Gap and movie, like, what's a crime? What's a crime of a movie? Like, for me, I get it. It's the thing. Everyone, that's what always, everyone always tells me it's the thing. There's other, I don't know if I've watched this and Kane all the way through. Yeah, that one. You just got to suck it up and do it.
Starting point is 00:29:42 Do you? I have it. Do you? Yeah, you can't. I have both of them. How much you refer, how much everybody references it? It's just like, oh, it's this citizen cane of this. It's like, then you got to go down that.
Starting point is 00:29:53 It's the sled. I know. I know. I mean, even watching the Sopranos and they. It's the slut. I knew it anyway. Speaking of cool running. But the sopranos watching, they watch that scene when they're all watching the movie,
Starting point is 00:30:04 they're watching, they start talking about the sled and everything too. So what's the biggest, what's one? You, because there's a few that you hadn't said. Rocky, she just watched Rocky recently. No, I am nothing, I am like locked in jail for my crimes against the movie. Because Terminator you just watched recently, the first one. I mean, like, I haven't seen lethal weapon. I haven't seen, diehard.
Starting point is 00:30:23 There's, nope. You've never seen the first one? No. Maybe we found the winner. I mean, I'm, I am on, I'm on death row. Well, that one, that one, that's, you got to see diehard. Yeah. I don't know that.
Starting point is 00:30:35 It's a great Christmas movie, right? I don't know that I can be locked in jail for now. for a movie that I haven't seen. She's going to do three life sentence. I'm on death row. She's getting the chair. I'm the Green Mile, which I've seen. Yeah, right. That's good for you.
Starting point is 00:30:47 There's some, there's some. I would like to go through, like, the list that I have, like, because I've got some of the classics back there. I like to go through a list and see which ones she's seen. Yeah. I guarantee she's missing a lot. I'm trying to think, like, those big mark. I know that they're there, but I, I'm trying to think of something.
Starting point is 00:31:01 Seen all the godfather movies. Seen all the Godfathers. Yeah, all that stuff. Have you seen Rudy? This is how bad I am at movie. Trivia now, which I can't even remember the movies that are great that I haven't seen. Yeah. Yeah, there's probably, there's probably a few.
Starting point is 00:31:15 And like I said, the thing is the one for me that, I mean, I do have, JTE got it for me six years ago. He bought me that Blu-ray. And it's unopened. You know how much that that poor soul had to save? So you just buy that? How much you had to put in his piggy bank? He had to get a second mortgage out.
Starting point is 00:31:32 That's right. Yeah, right. He had to wait another two weeks before he got another PlayStation. Yeah. he had to do. He's probably like six PlayStation's. My son enjoys his video games and he's allowed to. He sure does.
Starting point is 00:31:43 If anybody, how he has never dressed up as Charlie Brown for Halloween, I have no idea. He must have. Oh, he must have. He had to have. Remember those. Or Cayu.
Starting point is 00:31:53 Another good option. Yeah, that works. Now that it's off the air. I'm just saying. Unbelievable. Another really good option. He should. I mean, the best is when he dressed up as the priest that time.
Starting point is 00:32:02 Yes. I think he did dress up as Charlie Brown once. I think you're right. I don't know. you did it for us, but I'm just saying sometime in your life. Because eventually, like, if you're like me, Halloween rolls around, it's like, I've got to figure out something. I don't have a labour costume. I don't have time.
Starting point is 00:32:16 I don't want to go wait in line. What can I pull off myself? What do you even do? What does a single dude do on Halloween? I don't. I try to get out of town. Yeah, right? I hate Halloween.
Starting point is 00:32:24 I hate Halloween here, specifically. I love, like, everybody watching. I was going to say it's different with kids. Horror movies and stuff. I'll take my kids trick-treating. But, no, I like, I like, I like, I like to get out of L.A. around Halloween because the adults take it so seriously. And it's like, are you not, don't you have work at some point this month?
Starting point is 00:32:40 I liked it when I was single. Yeah. It was. I mean that. It was fun when you were single for sure. But like, no, thank you. Married with no kids? Why?
Starting point is 00:32:53 Married with no kids. Married with no kids. Who are we talking about? I'm just saying when you first. I was like, are you married? Because I think you can, because I think that you can. But I think you can. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:03 Well, maybe, you know what I should say? Maybe, maybe in late 30s. Early 40s, I can understand not wanting Halloween. I just never wanted to, like, I just, part of it is just my, I just get self-conscious because like if you're driving to a costume party, maybe it's fun once you get there, but you have three awkward moments. You have the moment when you're driving there and you're in traffic as Batman. You're, you have that moment when you're driving back.
Starting point is 00:33:26 And it's like, oh, look, Count Dracula drives a Honda Civic. And then it's, that moment when you walk in and you're like, I'm here. Do you know who I am? Because I'm dressed up. And do you like my costume? It's so weird. I just, Ugh.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Do you remember, gross? Do you remember that story that don't be scurred story? When, when, so I have, I have the audio on YouTubeers trying to find it, but I have I told you this one?
Starting point is 00:33:52 No. I don't believe so. I was out of Halloween party. It's Mark Riley's Halloween party. And right before, a friend of mine, his girlfriend brought her friend. And again,
Starting point is 00:34:01 I'm single at the time. And so he's like, she's into you. Da-na-na-na-na-na-ha. Very attractive woman. Problem was really bad drunk and got really, like, trashy towards the end of the night. We know if you were, though. When she was hammered.
Starting point is 00:34:18 But are we talking about me? No. Not talking about you. Not talking about you. Because it felt, I felt triggered. No. Bad drunk. Trashy by the end of the night.
Starting point is 00:34:31 You were not as bad as you think you are. But so my other friend, Jenny, had brought her friend. And we wound up hitting it off, the two of us who became. Yeah. And so, why not leaving with the friend? And I get a phone call on my voicemail the next day from the friend. Hammered. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Well, it happened that night. She called you that night. You didn't hear until the next day. Jibberish on your tape machine. But it was like, you want to go home with bad costume? Well, if you got balls, news them. If you don't, then drop them. Don't be scurred.
Starting point is 00:35:11 Don't be scurred. That might have been Kate, actually. Maybe it was. Yeah. And we kept saying, don't be scurred. I actually love this woman. I have to find it. You can go home with bad costume?
Starting point is 00:35:23 Okay, have fun. Bad costume. That's what she said. If you got balls, use them. If you don't, then drop them. Don't be scared. And she goes, be it. At the end, I have to find the voice.
Starting point is 00:35:36 It is great when drunken voicemails like live on. Live. If you've ever seen a movie at Alamo Draft House before they like show the previews and right before the feature, it's like they don't talk to her in a movie screen. And it's this completely wrecked drunk woman who had gotten kicked out and called management to complain and left a message. That's the voicemail they play. And they like, don't be this person.
Starting point is 00:36:00 I'm telling you, I have it here somewhere and I have to find it. Well, we can, while you keep looking, we can tap dance for the people. Well, I don't know who he isolated on camera before he went down this rabbit hole. Yeah, I don't know. I don't even know where to. Let's imagine it's both of us. I'm trying to find that if you. I kind of just want to be silent.
Starting point is 00:36:20 Okay. Just let him sit in it. Let Christian sit in this. Oh, it's just you. Yep. He isolated me again. If I knew it. Hi, everyone.
Starting point is 00:36:26 It's just you. If I knew it, where it was, I can't. I don't know. But speaking of balls. Yes. Your balls? Yeah. You want to drop them?
Starting point is 00:36:34 Balls? Yeah, well, I'm going to tell you guys. Honestly, last time we had a conversation about Manscaped between the three of us, it went in a direction that none of us were expecting. But I'll tell you this. Support for this show, the big thing is brought to you by Manscaped. They are the best in Men's Below the Waste grooming. They are the champions of the world that is Manscape.
Starting point is 00:36:55 They offer precision engineer tools for your family jewels. It's Manscaped. And they just launched their fourth generation trimmer. The lawnmower 4.0, it's the best. You heard me right. The 4.0, join over 2 million men worldwide who trust Manscapes. There's an exclusive offer just for you guys. It's 20% off and free worldwide shipping with the code, big thing at Manscapes.
Starting point is 00:37:18 I promise you, if you have never used Manscaped, if you have before and you haven't tried the new one, it has like, it reminds me of that. You're talking about Terminator. It's like that ship in Terminator that has like that big light that can find everything. That's exactly what this thing has. Imagine shaving with a sleek, well-designed, and optimized trimmer that makes shaving time your favorite time in the bathroom. I was one of the first people to try the 4.0. I was absolutely blown away by it.
Starting point is 00:37:42 I was locked in my bathroom. I didn't want to have anything to do with my family because I was just in there shaving my bits and pieces, and I loved it. Here's what you do. You don't want to do, honestly, is chip away. You're nuts. And you don't want to chip away with bullshit.
Starting point is 00:37:56 And that's a lot of stuff out there. This is bullshit. Manscaped, not bullshit. They are great. I love it. And I was skeptical when I first heard about them. I was like, oh, yeah, everybody talks to how great they are. This is like magic.
Starting point is 00:38:09 And what's so great about this upgraded trimmer is it includes a multifaction on-off switch, and it can engage a travel lock. And it gives you the ability to turn the light on and off when needed for a more precise shave. I don't ever turn the thing off, to be honest, just leave it on. I think it's too cool to turn it off. The lawnmower 4.0 even allows you to customize your trim, additional guard, and it's got the guard from one to four. And if you didn't love it already,
Starting point is 00:38:36 it's got wireless charging. The new wireless charging system uses electromagnetic induction, which can help battery length and it lasts longer. If you've been shaving with the same nut trimmer on your face, then you're definitely doing it wrong. No person wants to end up with some remnants in your mouth. It's disgusting. It's time to get your...
Starting point is 00:38:53 Sorry, Kate. This copy was not written for you, obviously. It's time to get your own ball hair and body trimmer with Manscape to make me time the best time and enhance your confidence with some nice smooth boys. Here's what you do. Use that code big thing. Unlock your confidence and always use the right tools for the job with Manscape. Is there ever a more fitting show to have a, Manescaped in a big thing. No.
Starting point is 00:39:31 All right, so if you got balls, she'll, if you don't got them. You should look her up and have her do the ad read. I saw her a few years back. Probably like between anywhere between five to six years back. I was coming back. The one who left the voicemail. The one who left the voice mail. Again.
Starting point is 00:39:49 Not the one you took to Poundown. I never said that. No one said that. No one said that. No one said it. And so no one said that. You missed a phone. call. That's all I almost said.
Starting point is 00:40:01 You missed a phone call for Pound Town. That thing that came in, that message came in at God knows what time. Because I woke up to it and I showed When you woke up, where were you? I don't know. What situation were you in?
Starting point is 00:40:16 What room in the house? What room in her house? What room? It was the Blackburn house. Which of her daddy's car's backseat? Blackbird house? If a woman passed the threshold, she was immediately.
Starting point is 00:40:29 I mean, there's not. Not even. She was immediate. Well, I don't know about that. I might have been, was I across the street by that time? No, you were not there yet. You and I, at that point, we had not started hanging out. Okay.
Starting point is 00:40:40 It's like, I knew each other. Yeah, it's probably 0405. This is 2005, 6. Okay. So, actually, this is 2006. Yeah. Yeah. Just capping off a perfect season.
Starting point is 00:40:52 In 2006, it was a year. And I realized, when you go back and you look, it's just like, okay, it led up until, Because 2007 was pretty, that was the start of my life as it is today. Your courtship. It was the life as it is today. And it's just like, you know, it's all very different. What? You met Sadie in 2007?
Starting point is 00:41:08 The end of 2007. I was going to say at the end of 2000. Yeah, the beginning of 2007 started a relationship. Yeah. Went into a different realm and then ended with my fiance. And never looks back. He never looked back. He didn't say that either.
Starting point is 00:41:23 He didn't seem to mind when I inferred that. You said I didn't. You said to me earlier. I didn't say that when you went to Patowdown. But I say you never looked back. And I thought you were going to say, I didn't say that. I didn't say that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:35 He's never looked back since. He frantically searches for a drunken voicemail. What I don't understand about you. It's true. I just wanted people to hear the actual. I want people to actually hear that. I'm so happy with my life. Hey, let me find this one bit that I saw this guy do in 2004.
Starting point is 00:41:50 Which guy was that? It's just our conversation. Oh. I do do that because I like to. We're recording the show. We are right now at the moment? We're on the end. What if I didn't hit record? Every time I come in here, I'm like, there's a 40% chance.
Starting point is 00:42:06 We're not. If you didn't hit record, it reminds. Never mind, I won't say that. Oh, you might as well at this point. Nope. Well, you already talked about Zach Raff. I, but that's my own opinion. I'm allowed to have my own opinion.
Starting point is 00:42:17 What were you going to say? I was going to say, if you didn't press record, it was Schmowdown. It was Schmodeau? Oh, yeah, because we've done that once before. I know. Only once. Oh, when we had to. when we didn't have the audio running?
Starting point is 00:42:30 No, I think that, yeah, right, we didn't have the audio running. It happened a couple times during the history of Schmo's, no reviews. We're like, I called Christian, I'd be like, either like it was so, usually if we were out of focus, we're like, we'll just make it, we'll just make it, make it a goof. But a couple times, like, the card didn't work or, I don't think we ever didn't hit record, but sometimes the sound was really bad because those mics we got were just like shit. So, yeah. God, the old days, man.
Starting point is 00:42:53 That's what you know. I know you don't mean. You don't usually. pay attention to any comments and stuff too. But have you been noticing? A lot of people say that this vibe that you and I have remind some of the old school? No, I haven't. But thank you for saying that.
Starting point is 00:43:07 It's true. They say that it's a lot of the old school kind of conversation where we started in like the Toad Hop days that it's that feeling of just, let's just talk and see where we go. And I think that's definitely the most happy I've been ever doing one of these shows. Yeah, but you've said that like five times in your career. Every time you get to it, I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but every time you get to a new station, a new set of, a new set of, you're like, this is finally what I've been working for.
Starting point is 00:43:31 And in the back of my head, I'm like, well, I've had fun the whole time. But it's, well, you haven't, it's an evolution. It's an evolution. I will tell you this. And it's a very similar to when there's certain movies you watch enough, too. The beginning of Schmo's and Schmo's, no, you can't really replace it. Like the vibe that we got, especially Toad Hop, to this day, I've meant, I've always made it very clear. Toad Hop was my, was my all-time favorite vibe with like, the gang.
Starting point is 00:43:53 It was my favorite vibe. Thank you, Buffalo Wildway. And that never changed as far as that. Then the show's the show's evolved. And then we got the inside of the after buzz, which is a lot of fun. We had a lot of great moments there, too. And then there was a lot. Like we had some fun with the crew.
Starting point is 00:44:05 And then the problem was, like, down the line, it just became a little too, I don't know, whether we joined Collider or whatever it was. It started to feel like work, you know, a lot of times. And it's like, okay, we got to do the show tonight. And I don't like feeling like that. And I go back and I really, and I've been a little more vocal, I really didn't like Collider Live. When I started doing it, when I started doing it, when I started doing it, when I started doing it, I said, I said when I was doing the show, I was like, okay, yeah, this is the vibe. And it was for a bit. But it was not fun to do after a while.
Starting point is 00:44:40 It felt like I dreaded going to the show. Because of the host. You didn't like the host of Collider. No, it was, it had nothing to do with people. I had so much fun with Roxy and John. I was talking about you. Yeah. And Kate and everyone on the show had fun talking to.
Starting point is 00:44:53 It was just a matter of, I don't know. It was just like, it just, it was too corporate. It felt too, like, stuffy. It felt too stuffy. I do think you're, you are, and you, you doing your own thing is your element. I don't think, I think, like, I mean, yes, I know you have bosses still, but I don't know.
Starting point is 00:45:09 I feel like you, you, you pay, yeah, but I was going to say, like, I feel like you pave your own way, and that's, like, good for you. No one tells me what I need to talk about or who I have on. How many paintings you can order. Exactly. Like, by the end of this show, by the big thing, you won't be able to look around about seeing that fucking horse. Just going to be that wallpaper.
Starting point is 00:45:24 Just going to be that horse. Yeah. Just pile my is going to be everywhere. It is a gorgeous. And why are you two on one? I could be actually seeing the pile of my right there. There it is. There you go.
Starting point is 00:45:34 Do you care about the movie now more so than you did? Oh, in this instance. Oh, Dom Toreto thought he'd left his outlaw life in the rear view mirror. I know what it says? It's because they drive cars. He never leaves anything. But not even he can outrun the past when his forsaken brother Jacob, Jacob, jack off when he jacks off unexpectedly.
Starting point is 00:45:57 Jacks off himself. He resurfaces an elite assassin. He just woke up in the morning and started beating his meat in the toilet. I mean, they're all the same. Sorry, your question. This one is, don't do drugs and watch it. Clockwork orange. That's the 4K version, right?
Starting point is 00:46:13 I can't watch it. I got to tell you, that's one I just watched recently. Great movie. I did it. Holds up. Because I got a... I think it is a good movie to watch on it. You don't think so...
Starting point is 00:46:24 It's so rapy. So many rapes. Lots of rapes. Yep. And the eye clamp. They're not good. They're not good people. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:32 Not good guys. No, that's a fucked up movie. But it's a great movie. Anyway, no, what we were going? I had something I was asked.
Starting point is 00:46:38 Oh, the Many Saints and Newark. Because you had just, because you had just watched it. Because you just watched the series, though. Well, that one,
Starting point is 00:46:48 you're probably not. I was already intrigued. But you're not going to miss it now, though. No, no, no, no,
Starting point is 00:46:54 Anyway, to be honest with it, as soon as that trailer came on, because I was into The Sopranos earlier in the quarantine. You know the Sopranos was the number one show in the pandemic during the, during the state, the initial stay at home order? Even before the next four weeks, it was the most streamed. But even before the trailer for the new movie came out? Yeah, the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, yeah. And so many saints in Newark was just a twinkle and R.I.
Starting point is 00:47:18 So Fernandez sent me a thing the other day about, why did you like Collider? What's that? Wasn't it him. He didn't, definitely not. But the, anyway, he sent me this whole thing, because he's a big Sopranos fan, right? And he sent me this making of that they,
Starting point is 00:47:36 that behind the scenes scene we're talking to David Chase. David Chase gives no fucks, and he is the most honest dude you are going to get in an interview. They asked him, the guy asked him about Michael Gandalfini, and he's like, any worries about, you know, putting Michael in there and worrying about his legacy and whether or not, you know, if they were going to be too critical on him, he's like, no, he's an actor. If that's what you want, you want to be famous, anything, it's what you chose.
Starting point is 00:48:04 And I'm like, 100%. Yeah. It's just like, it's not David Chase's job to protect Michael Ganderford, Candlefini. Right. You know, and he's, but he's so, like, stone cold. Like, he is just like, yeah, I don't understand. A lot of times I just don't understand, like, why people still, I, the question, He's like, the question I had was how long before they stopped giving a shit about this family?
Starting point is 00:48:26 And the guy's like, and the guy goes, maybe never. He goes, maybe never. David Chase says. And he goes, you know, and that's a great thing for me. He goes, I'm not going to. He's like, of course I care what people think about it. It's like, I'm trying to reach out to millions of people. It's not, it's like, no, I'm going to make it.
Starting point is 00:48:39 And then whatever. He's not, that's not it. It was just this approach that he has of like, you know, he's just kind of very like. Yeah. You've heard Christian's birthday plan, haven't you? No. Oh, yeah. Your plan is, yeah, just make a bunch of Italian food, sit down and watch the many states. Gain back all of the weight that I lost in one night. So what you said to give you an update every time I'm here?
Starting point is 00:49:04 I enjoy them. You were at a buck 98 last time. 196. Look at this guy. At the moment. Look at this guy. 96 at the moment. Good for you. It's not easy. When that plateau hits, too. Yeah. I can guarantee you, Mark, you have to be back on this.
Starting point is 00:49:22 show the day after my birthday. Okay. I'll not be 196. There's no chance. We'll do the way in. We'll do the body fat clams. Do the whole thing. There's no chance. I mean, there's going to be a lot of meat. Oh, butcher box, which we haven't talked about yet, we're going to. I'll give them an early plug. Butcher box is a new sponsor. Anybody eat pork? Yeah. Don't leave today before I'm, I have, sure won't. I'm telling you. Well, I do, but I got a box. I got a couple boxes sent to my course. I got a lot of pork for you. When I say a lot. Somebody's getting another voice,
Starting point is 00:49:56 yeah. You're going to say, you've got the pork, you give it to me. I'll pork you. I'll drop it. I'm going to pork you at the end of this one. But this is a,
Starting point is 00:50:05 this, so I get this box. And again, you're going to hear about butcher box soon. And I get this box. I'm like, oh, okay, they're here.
Starting point is 00:50:13 You want you to try it out because she's the new sponsor. And I open up, normally I've had these things in the past, whether it's blue aprons, and it's like, they give you a bunch of fucking celery. and other things, little side items and stuff.
Starting point is 00:50:24 This is just meat. Just meat. Just me. Big box of meat. Have you gotten any of you? Yeah. It's insane. It's endless.
Starting point is 00:50:32 Grass fed. It's like I fell into the box and I was into Willie Wonka's meat factory. So I tell my, and I got two of these things is they sent one for Brett, right? And so they sent. Oh, I'm so happy for him. So they send one over to me. And I got all this meat. I got an iron skill.
Starting point is 00:50:48 I'll tell you what I almost did. What I almost did was take all the pork. put it into the beef. But it's all grass-fed. It's great. But I said to my wife's like, you're like, you don't have to worry about the meatballs. That you're like, we got it. Right.
Starting point is 00:51:03 And then we made burgers that night. Holy shit. No. Our neighbor once forgot to cancel his. So he had two. And he's like, can I bring you a butcher box? And I was like, yes. It's no joke.
Starting point is 00:51:14 I can't wait to start talking to you guys about this once, once the actual, you know, the sponsor coming in, how you get your deal. It's worth it. Like I threw it on the grill immediately. Holy shit. But going back to the Sopranos, I'm going to be, it's going to be full on meatballs. Big Ziti.
Starting point is 00:51:29 All deal. Yeah. I don't know if I needed anymore with the new, with the butcher box. With the meat. It's, we're going to have meatballs for like six months. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:37 It's so I'm, I'm, the thing is I don't know if I should get the screen, even though the screener comes in. Should I watch it or so should I just take my birthday day and do my thing? It'll have the thing. I mean, the screener link might have like the,
Starting point is 00:51:51 You know, like the logo over it and stuff because it's, you know, copyrighted. But it's your birthday. It feels like it's fate. It feels like it's true. You know, you know, they'll mess with the universe. I know. You know, they'll throw that mercury right back in retrograde. But I don't know.
Starting point is 00:52:05 But I don't know if I had the strength in me. If they send me that link, not to watch it. Depends on how early they send it. If it's a day or two, you can hold your water. If it's a week, it's like, oh, God. I know. If it's just sitting in the inbox, it's the same thing. It's like, so here's a question I have a few mark you when it comes to,
Starting point is 00:52:19 because Boba Fett's one of your favorite characters all time, right? Big fan of Boba Fett. Are you excited for the TV show? You're going to watch it. Sometimes you hold back on the TV shows. I was going to say that's my big gap in viewing is any of the Marvel shows. I haven't seen any of the Marvel shows. You can watch the Mandalorian right away.
Starting point is 00:52:34 I watched the initial Mandalorian right away, I think. And then season two, I was kind of waiting. And then once everything was out, then I sort of got up with it. So I don't know when the third season comes out. Not until, um, like next year they haven't officially said yeah i got time yeah we don't even know because katie was in here she wants to come back she wants to come back soon and me well she missed yeah she missed you yeah she misses my dragon knows but uh but she we don't even know we don't even know if she's in it next season
Starting point is 00:53:02 there was no there was no confirmation on it or not but the but she's gonna be what's the next show that air is bobafe is bobafe that's in the book of boba fe where it's like his underworld book of bobafe well we think it's sitting on the throne yeah well it takes place in tattoine after he's just whacked Bob Bib Fortuna. What I think the show is going to be is chapters in his life of things that we've seen like getting out of the Sarlac Pit
Starting point is 00:53:28 in between before Empire Strikes Back, things like of that nature. Like I think we're going to see chapters of his life leading into. He knows people. No, no, no, no. I really don't. Inside sources. I think it's the Boutts tales of the bounty hunter type thing that they're going to do.
Starting point is 00:53:42 I'm very curious about getting out of the Zerlachet. So you don't think it's just a straight serial? You think it's just He has parts of his life Like a young Indiana Jones Chronicles sort of thing I think leading up It's like five or six episodes It's like old Boba Fett
Starting point is 00:53:54 Waiting for his dentist appointment Yeah And he's just telling stories about being younger I think so Yeah Yeah because the question is Yeah Because there's stuff
Starting point is 00:54:03 That's how young Indiana Jones was Every episode started with old Indiana Jones And he just take his cane And he just like hit some random kids Like hey hey you want to hear a story Hey I use that two eyes You want to hear a story about him
Starting point is 00:54:15 And the kids like do I have to mister? He's like, hey, one time, we were looking for Coronado's Cross and get this. Guess who shows up? Uh, Bella. And the kid's like, I don't know who these people are. And this one time with the night. And this guy wouldn't shut up. This guy's even older than I am.
Starting point is 00:54:31 He was a carpenter. You got to go with the wooden chalice. That one you've seen. I've seen that one. So, but so Boba Fett comes out. And I think there's rumors that that Pedro Pascal will show up. There's rumors that all this. Sir.
Starting point is 00:54:45 Who knows? But that comes out to the end of this year. then the questions are what comes out next will it be and or will now after watching rogue one i'm more excited about that series than it was previously um obi won which one comes out first right and then they have then it would probably mandolore in season three the question is does that hit at the end of next year or does it hit at the beginning of 2023 i'm in to see all of them yeah i'm in to see all of them very curious what they do with hayden christensen in that show are you making you nervous Remember the conversations we used to have,
Starting point is 00:55:17 or you said that? We don't need to see them. I still don't think we need to. Definitely need to see him. I still don't think we need to. Yes, we do. I think it does, again, you and I will never see eye on this,
Starting point is 00:55:25 but I do think that every time you compress the cannon a little bit with this new stuff, it takes away a little bit of the luster from a new hope because Obi-1 is in a new hope. He's just this wizard who's just been stumb around just kind of chilling in the desert for a long time. Whereas with rebels, he fought Darth Mall like three weeks ago. And it's like, well, it's really good.
Starting point is 00:55:44 even a couple of years, it's like, okay, it's, and now he's like, he has these other interactions with Vader. Again, when I made the point of the time, and I'll reiterate it, I am not going to complain about seeing Darth Vader. I love Darth Vader. Do I think he's necessary to whatever story that we're telling? Yeah. If that's the story they want to go with, then fine.
Starting point is 00:56:05 But I also think that it concerns me that it takes away a little bit from when Obi-1 does see Darth Vader again in a new hope. And he says, and Darth Vader says when I left you I was both the learner now I'm the master and we always as did you as did me as did everybody else took that back in the day as the last time they saw each was on Mustafa. So yeah but it certainly doesn't seem like that. I mean well in Return of the Jedi is the point that I always counter with that right where he says to Luke
Starting point is 00:56:34 he's like there's still good and Luke says it's still good in you. He's like Obi-Wan once thought as you did. Right. They're still good in you. He never had that opportunity in Revenge of the Sith because it's just a good. He just turned bad. He doesn't say to him, I still think there's good in you. It's Padmae that says it to him, right?
Starting point is 00:56:48 So there's never that moment of when Obi-Wan thinks that this- But you can also take that to just Obi-1 believed in this kid, even though everybody else on the Jedi Council is like, ah, he ain't ready. There's something fishy going on here. But they never questioned whether he was good or bad. And as far as goodness goes, that moment never happened. But I don't disagree with you that if it's executed poorly,
Starting point is 00:57:09 it could hurt all of that. Yeah. If it's executed correctly, it could also show. the pain and the stuff that Obi-Wan had to go through. Sure. Knowing that this guy's still alive, because when Asoka sees him, she's like, oh, this dude's gone. Right.
Starting point is 00:57:25 Obi-Wan never really had an opportunity to do that yet. But why, and I love the hitting Christians, is back in it, but isn't he just going to be wearing a suit the whole time? So this is what I think. So that's another great question because we've talked about that, and I think that the answer to that question is, if you're just going to bring them back to be in the suit, why? Well, you put him in flashbacks?
Starting point is 00:57:46 Now, do you age him? Remember. He still looks great. Here's what they did. He still looks great. Here's what they did recently. This is why I think that they... Yes, he can.
Starting point is 00:57:53 Yes, he can. That was a George Lucas thing. That was not a Hayden Christian thing. Watch glass. What's a Glass House? Shatterglass. Glass houses is that other. I like to him in a jumper.
Starting point is 00:58:01 Yeah, Shatter... He's not... He's not bad. I'm just saying him as Anakin has never been good. I think that... And I think he's, if you watch, from episode two to episode three progressively gets better. He's much better in three than he's in two
Starting point is 00:58:16 because he had better direction and everything to it. But anyway. I'll give you that, actually. But watch, but the thing is, they brought in this guy, because they do this whole thing, the gallery series on Disney Plus, which you should check out.
Starting point is 00:58:28 They do a full episode on bringing back Luke. Right. And they were, and how they, did you watch this? No, you told me about it. Yeah, yeah. So they were going to do, they were, I forget what,
Starting point is 00:58:38 whatever they were going to call. it, but the de-aging, the de-aging is what they ultimately used. Yeah. Which still looks iffy. It looks fine, but iffy. Deep fake is the one that the technology has just changed dramatically. There's a guy on YouTube that did a version of Luke in deep fake and put it side by side of what they did and it looks hands down 100% better. Frank Luca Torda.
Starting point is 00:59:02 But Frank is very good at that stuff. And it's great at it. And so in this guy, so Luke is from hires this guy. Oh, yeah. So I think that the reason they hire him is for things like this. I think Hayden Christensen and U.S. McGregor will be in flashback scenes in Obi-Wan to, so we can actually see him as, as Anakin in a different way. Yeah, and I'm not naive.
Starting point is 00:59:24 You give Obi-1 a show. You're probably going to put somebody else that we recognize in there. Again, I just think, and it's not just Darth Vader in the movies. It's also Darth Vader's in all of the comic series and all the novels. It's like at some point this guy just had to take a shit and sleep. Right. Like at some point he just had to go on vacation. At some point,
Starting point is 00:59:44 we need to space it out a little bit. Rogue one made sense because he was literally on a spaceship chasing Princess Lay at the beginning of a new hope. I'm talking about when Mendelsohn goes to see him, he's in the tank. And you see, like you said, there's sometimes he's just, he's just trying, in Mustafa, he's just relaxing.
Starting point is 01:00:00 Well, relaxing, but he's just kind of. No, he's relaxing. Evil people can relax too. But, I mean, there's, I and Deborah, Chow who just was a rock star in season one of Mandalorian. Knocked it out of the park. Oh, so good. And she's directed in the whole series.
Starting point is 01:00:15 It's like she's directing a six-hour movie or seven-hour movie, whatever it is. I'm excited for it. And if our theater shows, I'm not going to be like, oh, dude. But I want to see if how you feel about the execution. Are you going to be stubborn, though? Like even if it actually makes sense, you're going to-stubber doesn't sound like me at all. Yes, it does. But even if it still makes sense, you're just like, I didn't need to say it still, even if it did make sense.
Starting point is 01:00:35 Again, my version of Obi-1 is different. than what probably actually is happening according to canon. Because my version of Obi-1 is he's literally doing nothing, but going to the bar and doing crossword puzzles. And being that guy that is just losing all of his sort of abilities, and then he's still got his fighting strength, but he's just, he is in the middle of a desert. He's an old wizard who hasn't done shit in a long time.
Starting point is 01:00:58 Yeah. Is the guy that I knew from a New Hope. Well, but I think that by the time you get to that, he's still, remember, this is only like seven or eight years after Revenge of the Seth. So it's still, you still have a lot of, time. A lot of scars there. A lot of scars there.
Starting point is 01:01:09 Where he just wants to back up. And it's like how many more times is he going to go against Vader before it's like. I think this is the last one. I think this is the last one. I'm telling it. That's what the real best should be is. Kathleen. And Kathleen Kennedy said in at D23 that you're going to see like the final battle.
Starting point is 01:01:23 And I think that's going to be the battle. Right. And I was one of the stuff. I was like, uh, but no, you, we already saw the final battle. The final battle is a new hope. Did you ever see like the repurposed fight that they did in episode four. Somebody read it. It's really good.
Starting point is 01:01:36 Yeah. Have you seen this? I'm going to show it to you before really. But it's just sometimes I feel like, and I feel this with Star Wars too. More like just the, you know, I enjoy the Star Wars shows and all that stuff, but it just sometimes feels like we're just taking this,
Starting point is 01:01:50 this soaked washcloth that we just love so much and we just keep bringing. But don't you think that's Marvel also? Yeah. Oh, okay. Yeah. You feel the same. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:01 And which is why, again, I'm not rebelling against any of the Marvel shows. I'm not sitting there staring at the pre-screen, like I'm not watching you. It's just like I like going to the movies and seeing what our heroes and villains been up to. But you need it, you could do it in spurts in like three years.
Starting point is 01:02:17 Yeah. I just, I, but yes, I thought I understand. Yeah. It's a really good metaphor, except for the part where I have to love soaked washcloth.
Starting point is 01:02:26 Yeah. Oh, so much. Why do I love that? Well, before we get out of here, too, we also mentioned the top of the show,
Starting point is 01:02:32 Succession Season 3. I started watching the series, liked it, didn't, for every other, reason I've always told you, nah, let's move on to something else. It's like shit.
Starting point is 01:02:41 So we never finished it. But I might just go back and revisit the whole series myself because of what I saw, I really liked. You guys love. Kendall was the name I was trying to think. Kendall was the name. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:50 There's seven more spinoffs of succession coming out. There's a what if, which is totally like what if they made different decisions. And that's going to be anime. Now, this is the attitude I was looking for because this is what we saw when you walk in. It's a joke. I literally walked in.
Starting point is 01:03:04 It's a joke, people. It's a joke. I walked in just because there was, It was just the, I'm still kind of reeling from all of the stress of last night. And afterwards, I took the dog for a long walk. Yeah. And my phone service had gone out. And so I, like, couldn't decompress listening to me.
Starting point is 01:03:21 Like, nothing on my phone worked. It was the, it was like I was in the twilight zone. Yeah. So, anyway, very stressful game. Last week, three weeks ago, it was when the game. So long ago. It was a way. Succession.
Starting point is 01:03:31 Yeah. The best. It's the absolute best show. Do you love it? I love it. I love it. I love it. I think I.
Starting point is 01:03:36 Who loves it more? You are RB3? because RV3 loves it. I honestly, well, maybe RV3. But I'll tell you what, for me,
Starting point is 01:03:44 writing plus great acting and this show has it in space. You can't miss this show. No, my God. I consider it appointment viewing. It's not like I'm going to devr it. It does air Sundays, I believe.
Starting point is 01:03:58 So I will deviar it until whatever get whatever NFL game's over. And then that's kind of my closer. What are you? Do you have HBO Max? For the night? Yeah, It's just easier just to hit the buttons that I've been hitting for 20 years.
Starting point is 01:04:10 I understand. You got your own purpose. Yeah, I got my stuff. Yeah. And sometimes somebody else is watching my HBO. What does that mean? You can watch it at the same time. Yeah, I know, but it's so annoying to see your stupid-ass nickname up there.
Starting point is 01:04:20 My favorite is when my daughter goes, what's nachosis? Yeah, yeah. It's a long, deep, sordid tale. Long story. But yeah, so I really enjoy it. I loved the way that they left off last season. Don't spoil anything. And it just, it's one of those, it was one of those.
Starting point is 01:04:36 it was one of those endings where you say I can't believe I got to wait for all these assholes to film this thing Yes And one of the reasons I guess because of What's going on in the world at the moment They had to take a break, right? Is that what happened?
Starting point is 01:04:49 I mean, they were going to break anyway But I don't know if the break was extended But it feels like that But it feels like this was always Sort of when it was going to To come out again The trailer dropped on Friday All of these people are such
Starting point is 01:05:00 Accomplished actors too Yeah, turds No, I was going to say I also wouldn't be surprised if there was I wouldn't be surprised if there was also conflicts that they were working around. So this show, if you were going to compare it to great shows in the past, like a mixture of, you know, when they say blah, blah, blah, blah, what would you say?
Starting point is 01:05:18 It's the godfather. Really? It is about family. It's like about a family dynasty. It does have the godfather. Yeah. Every time you hear the movie, the godfather, you don't instantly have to jump to the surprise. I'm talking about a TV show.
Starting point is 01:05:32 As we talked about on your show, is that an influential HBO? HBO show with Sopranos, so that's why I go there. I guess, and I don't know. I don't, it's almost singular. It's much more Godfather than Sopranos. Okay. If you're going with that. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:46 Like Fredo. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. There's a Fraydo. But there is, there is also, and this might be, I want to see how this hits, Kate. There is a little bit of a, the Larry Sanders show in this. Ooh. There's a little bit of a mocking tongue-and-teak vibe to this whole thing.
Starting point is 01:06:05 It's funny. I was going to say, deep. There is a dark sense of, yeah, it's a dark sense of humor. And there is the whole show, when you look at it, it can be considered a very, very, very dark, serious farce. Yeah. And sometimes it misses that tone from me. Sometimes it gets a little too ridiculous.
Starting point is 01:06:24 Yeah. But it always rebounds with these dramatic moments, but I don't need it to be as ridiculous sometimes as it is. So here's a question for you then. You can only watch one. Succession or the Obi-1 series. What do you take? Succession season three of the Obi-W-Wan series.
Starting point is 01:06:38 You just have to figure out which fan base you want to attack you. Yeah, I know. The easy answer is just Star Wars, just because I am excited. But not at the points you just made. To see Obi-Wan. What points did I just make? You just said that sometimes you like to take a break of it, even though you want to watch it. You still don't necessarily need it.
Starting point is 01:06:54 Yeah. But Succession, it seems like it's must-watch television. The thing I'll say is. I just, I can't wait for your- I can't wait for your, I can't wait for your guys. I'm acting like I don't care about seeing Obi-1 at all. I didn't say that. I wasn't talking specific. Typically about the Obi-1 show, though.
Starting point is 01:07:07 When I'm talking about the ring and the washcloth? When's the makeup sex? All I'm saying is from the points that you made, it seems like, because from must-watch television on succession. Yeah. There's no wrong answer here. I'm just curious. It's getting very defensive.
Starting point is 01:07:20 I'm not getting defensive. You are lobbing grenades at me. What would you do? If somebody came in here and sort of lobbing grenades at you, would you be like, I'm not going to be defensive? I'm just going to take this. I don't think you know what a lobbergen is. I'm simply saying from the points that were made, not,
Starting point is 01:07:35 10 or 15 minutes ago. You said that... It didn't all apply, most of which didn't apply necessarily to specifically the Obi-1 show. But with Obi-Wi used to be... But it lent...
Starting point is 01:07:43 It's that whole conversation of the washcloth... I am more curious... I'll say it like this. I am more curious to see what they do with Obi-1. Okay. Then Secession Season 3. But there is a slightly better chance
Starting point is 01:07:54 that I would put on Obi-1 and I'd be like, all right, not my thing right now. Succession has that too, though, because I could get very... Because, again, this tone I'm talking about... Yeah. Succession can go in a way that I'm like, you know what?
Starting point is 01:08:09 I'll catch it after the season. So both of them are about on the same par of anticipation for me. Which means that if there's a tiebreaker, then I go at the childhood. But you, you, there's no. I'm very excited about Obi-Won series. No, succession. Yeah, but also. That's your favorite show in television right now?
Starting point is 01:08:27 No, what we do in the shadows is my favorite show in television right now. It's the gray. It's the great. But that's because it's also like that's a show that like, If I had a different life, that's the show I wish I was on. And you would leave Dickey for Tiber. Oh, 100. There's not.
Starting point is 01:08:41 I mean, and he would also leave me for Tiger. There's no question. At this point, you probably, two of you, you'd probably be okay. Honestly, I think we could stay together and still get with Tiger. What are we doing, Chad is pretty great. It's the, it's, I just love it. Never watch you. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:08:53 Oh, you got to see. There's one episode that you got to see. Yeah. You just show him Jackie Daytona. Oh, Jackie Daytona. And he's going to be in. Jackie Daytona. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:04 So I need to watch the movie first, though, don't I? No, I didn't watch the movie yet. No, no, no, no. The movie's great, but you don't need to watch it. Yeah. No, but I was going to say, Succession has the same thing that Game of Thrones had, which is, like, when you hear the music,
Starting point is 01:09:18 you're like, I'm fucking ready. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like Game of Thrones music, I would be like, I like the music of succession. I mean, again, I've seen like four episodes. After a while, I had to mute Game of Thrones at the beginning because the music would get stuck in my head for, like,
Starting point is 01:09:32 the rest of the week. Music is stuck in your head, My daughter came in here the other day, and she wanted to turn the microphones on and start doing like karaoke. It's some songs that she has. It's really cute. So she was listening to like the tangled out of TV show,
Starting point is 01:09:46 which I had no idea about. I do now. And I know all the music in it. Seven spinoff series planned. Three, well, there was three seasons. But she loves Taylor Swift, right? Favorite artist. And so I always remember getting into conversations,
Starting point is 01:09:59 and I still think it's a lunatic take of Josh McCougar saying that Taylor Swift is better than Prince. I think it's a lunatic take. However, what I will say about Taylor Swift is that very, very talented, very talented. Oh, yeah. She can play ball. She's, oh, yeah. I mean, I never really gave a shit about listening to any of her stuff until my, you know,
Starting point is 01:10:17 and my 10-year-old, like, loves her. And there's this one song, my daughter starts belting out into the karaoke thing and listening to it, and it was stuck in my head for three days. She's got one that gets stuck in my head. London boy? Have you heard this song, London Boy? No, they played at the gym sometimes. I can't remember.
Starting point is 01:10:34 It's the... She wears shorts. No, it just gets higher and higher and higher. And it's like, you gotta calm down. You gotta blah, blah. And I'm like, I'm calm, Taylor. Yeah, it was. But any, listen, this is a great show here today.
Starting point is 01:10:45 Thank you. Not to... We'll either have to cut it out of the beginning or not talk about Norm MacDonald. We did say... Oh, shit, we should talk about it now. Yeah. No, thank you for bringing that up.
Starting point is 01:10:54 Yes, it's actually a great way for us to end the show. The other day, a few days back, we got the sad word that the great... The great comedic genius that was Norm MacDonald passed away, and nobody knew that he was, well, close friends, obviously, and family knew, but he had been suffering from cancer for many years. And he passed away, and the community, I thought it was, there were times that when you see the community come together,
Starting point is 01:11:29 that you go, okay, you see the impact that this person had on, Oh, yeah. On everyone. And not just fans, not just family, but like just appears, right? And this stuff, like, you couldn't scroll through Instagram or anywhere and see a tribute to him and not stop. Yeah. Right? Whether there was a video clip, the stuff like the one that I forgot about that I went back to what Craig Brewer, I think, posted it.
Starting point is 01:11:55 And I was, the stuff that Norm McDonald used to do is like, you know, who else, Cure did this and made an attempt? You know who didn't do that? Frank Stallone. He had a lot of Franks Stallone. He went after Franks Stallone all the time. And just a different type of comic. Yeah. Like, and Balsey and some, and his stuff on the news was really appreciated, like, after he left.
Starting point is 01:12:21 On weekend update? Yes. Yeah. Because the weekend update when he was on, it wasn't as popular as it is, like, his thing that he, like, today. Like today he's recognized as one of the best weekend update. It wasn't this case when he was doing it. No, and he wasn't necessarily the most thrilled about being the weekend update guy. He just wanted to do it his way and eventually got to do it.
Starting point is 01:12:42 But it was shorter, you know, term than you would have thought just because he was doing it his way. And Don Olmeyer kept asking him, hey, you've got to lay off OJ after a while. And he just didn't want to because it's one of the great lines in the history of that show, in the history of comedy, really, is the week that the verdict came down, Saturday Night Live airs, and the weekend update, and he kicks off with the joke, picture of OJ, and he just looks in the camera and he says, well, it's official. Murder is legal in the state of California.
Starting point is 01:13:09 And it just got the biggest, just the biggest laugh. And he's just, that's who he always was because he would never, like, set up a whole lot of pretense or, like, bait and switch you. He would just literally go directly at you with the joke and just set up here, A, B, C, and then just the way he delivered it, the way that his mind worked, to create a, behind it, it was just always like, oh, it's right there. And so he's that rarest of comic that can crush an audience of patrons,
Starting point is 01:13:39 but also have all the comics in the back of the room come into one of watch it. And we know people that all the comics want to see that don't necessarily always go well with the audience. And we know the comics that can crush an audience, but all the other comics are like, yeah, I don't need to see that set. He could unite both of those. True. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:56 And you were a massive fan of him as well. I was a big fan of his. I think one of the reasons I like him is he. He's such an unlikely hero in a lot of ways. I feel like he was just sort of like an average dude. And I think just like the impact that he, I think sort of in his passing, I realized what an impact he had on so many people.
Starting point is 01:14:15 And I feel like even that's unlikely because it's not like he's been in the zeitgeist recently. It's not like he's, you know, 10 years ago, I just, and this is like a, I'm not sticking my flag into the tragedy. It's not, this does not affect me personally on any level. You know, shout out to us to the people that were close to him and who had a relationship with him.
Starting point is 01:14:33 But I was in the coffee bean that you guys used to live by on Blackburn. And Andrew Santino and I were together. We were writing. We were going to do like a, I don't even know what we were thinking of doing. It never happened because he got famous and I got pregnant. But Norm McDonald was there, which I think he was always there at that coffee bean. Didn't you guys see him on. On sunset and sunset and Fairfell?
Starting point is 01:14:56 No, the one on Orlando. It was in Orlando. Right near our old place. Yeah. And there was a job. There was Johnny Rockets there. He used to hang out over at that side, too. That's where I used to see him all the time.
Starting point is 01:15:05 He overheard us, and he came over and he sat with us, and he was just like talking to us. And then I was like, well, we're going to get going. And he was like, all right, you give me a ride home. And like he got into my Volkswagen Jeddah. This was 2007, I think. Got into my Volkswagen Jedda and I drove him home. He lived in Orlando. But just like, again, total unlikely dude, just like 10 years ago, sitting in a coffee being just like,
Starting point is 01:15:29 what's going on over here? Like, you know, so it's, I think so much of this is shocking. It's like, it's shocking that, like, that he's gone, but it's also shocking, like, oh, my God, look at the, like, look at the footprint he left. And everybody just, just posts their favorite clip of him on late night shows because he was one of the best panel guests of all time. And so I was texting one of his close friends, you know, and I have been for the last three days, just,
Starting point is 01:15:53 and just the sentiment is just thanking him for bringing him back around, you know, the comedy store because he'd be hanging out a lot of nights and just get in these conversations with him. And you just get to know him. And it's just like he's just such a sweet guy, such a nice guy. Nice, dude. But then also just so crushingly funny. And if you YouTube, Norm MacDonald Crocodile Hunter is one of the best things from The Daily Show. Tex Hooper, the bit that he did on his ridiculous album.
Starting point is 01:16:17 And I don't know where you can find it. I don't know if it would be on Comedy Central's website. But David Spade did an episode of Lights Out with David Spade where it was him and three former weekend update anchors were the panel guests. And it was Norm MacDonald, Kevin Neeland, and Dennis Miller. And they were all spake. It was the funniest 22 minutes of TV I've seen in a long time because Spade would come out. And when, you know, Shlub's like me are on the show, you just kind of watch him do the monologue.
Starting point is 01:16:44 If he wants to interact with you, he will, but you don't really, you know, cut him off. They wouldn't let him get a word out of his jokes. And they just kept roasting him and every joke that he told. And it is so effing funny. And then when he comes over and then they're just like, like kind of shooting the shit about the old days. They're all hilarious, and Norm is still the funniest guy in the room.
Starting point is 01:17:05 I love it. Of the comedian legends, he was always still the funniest guy in the room. And not to be a dick, but that Bob Dole's giving a tribute to Norm McDonald's. You're like, I never saw this happening. I thought you would think Bob Dole, who's in his 90s now?
Starting point is 01:17:19 I mean, like, Norm was just gone way too soon, man. Way too soon. So we give, well, we get props to one of the kings of comedy. He was incredible. Go down the rabbit hole, folks. Absolutely do that. But we also love and prayers and thoughts to his family, gone at 61, I believe, way too young. And nothing but respect to the great Norm McDonald.
Starting point is 01:17:40 And we hope that you guys will do what Mark said. Please go and check them out. If you never had an experience to really know much about Norm McDonald, please go. And that's the beauty of today. Yeah. You can just YouTube and go down the rabbit hole, spend a few hours. Keep them alive. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:55 Do it. Well, thank you guys for joining us here today. If you didn't already join us on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, please do. It's very important for the duration of this show and everything that we do. And we're going to be Mark and myself twice. I haven't performed in a while. I'll be doing both of these shows with Mark. Starting point is 01:18:15 It's over. We're doing this one. We're doing this one on September 26. Use the code. Look at those descriptions. And then, yeah, and then don't forget. October 9th in New York. October 8th, Mark will be there as well.

Starting point is 01:18:38 Thank you, Mark. Thank you, Christian. Thank you, Christian. With the salad.
