Starting point is 00:02:01 That they're on schedule. It's going to come out when they say it is. Is this good news that they hit everything they're supposed to? They'll do reshoots and all that. But is this the movie that DC needs? We will recap Mike Kalanowski's Comic-Con trip, what he learned, what he thought about certain things that came out there, and he also saw Deadpool and Wolverine will get his thoughts about that particular movie.
Starting point is 00:02:22 Edge of Tomorrow, they talked about a sequel, man. They've been talking about a sequel for that movie for. quite a bit with the rise of Emily Blunt's star power and Tom Cruise doing what he did with Top Gun Maverick. Is this movie, is it something that should happen already? Is there something that should have happened already? Talk about that. It seems like everything is being thrown out as the next Goonies, right? We got Skeleton Crews, the next Goonies. Well, no Marvel's playing their hand in the Goonies pot and they're saying that Agatha is the next Goonies. Well, what? I thought it was a horror show. Now it's Goonies. We'll discuss that. So that's what we got for you today. It's
Starting point is 00:03:02 myself and Mike Kalinowski, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Anywhere Podcasts for found. Let's do it. It's the big thing. Here we go. What's up, everybody? Welcome back. It is the big thing. It is Wednesday. And we are here with you guys, myself, Mike Kalinowski. All right, Mike, it's me and you. Steph is not here. They have to deal with our ugly faces. Yeah, why not? Why not? Okay, let's jump right into this. I want to talk about this Superman thing.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Okay, James Gunn's Superman has wrapped filming. James Gunn has revealed that the filming of his Superman movie has wrapped filming today. The rap coming just as rival Marvel Studios kicking off filming Fantastic Four with both films opening in the same month next year. In a posting on Instagram, Gunn has posted a photo of himself and several crew members alongside David Corencewett and Nicholas Holt, who plays Superman X and Lekyllis Holt, who plays Superman and Lexi. Lex Luthor, he captions the photos saying it's from their first week of shooting in Norway in tribute to the overall shoot now ending and then he says, and that's a wrap. God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life. I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn't always so much. And the goodness and
Starting point is 00:04:20 kindness and love I've encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent on a move of my own. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honor. The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotion and ideas and magic we've shared together on set, and for that I am forever grateful. Gun is expected to segue from this into directing episodes of the currently in production second season of Peacemaker, whilst also editing and completing post-production on Superman between now and the film's release July 2025. All right, Mike, so you hear this and we get, as a DC, that's your first thing. You're the D.C. guy.
Starting point is 00:05:01 So you hear this. What's your overall hope for and how you're feeling? Because I look at it like when you look at a sports team. And this team, you got a new general manager. He's made some moves. How are you feeling about your team right now? Very confident. I had said it, I think I put a post out during Comic Con
Starting point is 00:05:21 because they revealed the new logo for D.C. just overall, which is the kind of the classic one that they've had for a very long time. I haven't seen a move that they've done since he's been announced that I don't agree with or don't feel good about Yeah That's sum it up pretty good It does
Starting point is 00:05:39 I mean But again, you know, people will say, you're the DC guy You know, you're always gonna say something like that's why I was the guy that said it needed a reboot You know and I'm coming from a guy that loves Zach Snyder Everything that came before it so Yeah, I mean, but that's that's why I asked you Because it's like as where someone asked me the day
Starting point is 00:05:57 Oh, it was on Patreon, I think, but they said, as far as Star Wars goes, do you think it's in a good place? I said, no, as a fan, for me, I think it's in a terrible place. There are other people who are happy with it, but I think that it needs, I think Star Wars needs what D.C. got. I think they need someone new running it. I think they need a new slate. I think they need new ideas in general. But D.C. has that. And D.C. has Superman, and Superman was one that they haven't had this version of Superman.
Starting point is 00:06:27 Yeah, in quite a while. They tried to, Ryan Singer tried to do it with essentially just doing a continuation of the Donnerverse, but it wasn't. I mean, there's parts of that movie that worked, but for the most part, it just seemed like they were just trying to copy something that worked in the past. This is taking the ideals of Superman and the things that originated in the comic that made him famous, and the question is going to be, can they get that Boy Scout mentality and can they get people to like that Superman in the world that we live? live in today. I feel like the world needs that right now, personally. I think that someone, that version, and I want to see what David Corenceweck can do because I saw him in Twisters. He's a completely different, almost opposite character, what Superman is in that movie.
Starting point is 00:07:11 But he was good. The performance was good. So I'm excited to see what he's going to bring to it. But this movie, the other thing, it's well said to what James Gunn has always done, and no matter if you hear behind the scenes, if you see from the product of when you're hearing the cast or seeing the cast with him. He creates an environment on the people are having fun and they want to bring good work. So I feel like we're going to get something special. I mean, whether it's me just being optimistic
Starting point is 00:07:37 or just judging off what he's done over the past, like, five years. Yeah, I mean, his kind of resume speaks for itself on what he does. So, I mean, yeah, it's like you don't, I'm the guy you don't have to sell on this kind of thing. Right, and you're more of a Batman guy. But you're more of a Batman guy than Superman. I am. I'm not a big Superman guy.
Starting point is 00:07:57 So is this a... You think you can get you on board, like in Superman even more? We'll see. We'll see, man. Yeah. We'll see. I'm pumped to see it because it's like...
Starting point is 00:08:05 You see, they'll have reshoots. They always have reshoots on movies, but I think that they are... I don't think that the article was wrong to mention Marvel and Fantastic Four, because they are going to be going up against them, and it is a kind of head-to-head battle that guns are going to have.
Starting point is 00:08:21 And, you know, someone had asked, I was talking about with Roken, Rook was like, I don't understand why they didn't do anything at Marvel. I mean, at Comic-Con. Comic-Con. And I think it was completely brilliant,
Starting point is 00:08:31 why they didn't. Yeah, like, now thinking about it, because, like, okay, so they just finished filming this week. Like, you're not going to take three,
Starting point is 00:08:40 four days out of your filming to come down here. Like, you know, one, well, you could have. It was tough. Could they have? Of course.
Starting point is 00:08:48 But, but this is my reasoning why I think that it made sense for them not to. First of all, I don't think that studios should go to Comic-Con anymore. I think that I, they spent too much money and get nothing in return from it, except you can get the same, like, if you remember,
Starting point is 00:09:03 and this is the example I use for say, for Marvel. Marvel years ago, I think it was like 2015, 2016, when they announced Chadwick Bozeman as Black Panther, when they did this whole thing, did it the El Capitan Theater. It's their theater cost them nothing to do. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. And they made, that was over when they announced Civil War, was it Civil War? It was Civil War, yeah, and they did a big thing for them.
Starting point is 00:09:27 And then they also do D23. It's their thing. It costs them, they still cost them money, but it cost them less, and they put more money back in their pocket because it's their thing, right? D.C. did something really great. They did the Fandome thing for a few years. Obviously, it was virtual, and they have to do it. But they have not, and again, being a D.C. guy,
Starting point is 00:09:46 that first year was awesome. Ever since then, it's kind of puttered out. They don't have anything to do right now. But what James Gunn did, very well. That first year was great. But James Gunn didn't announce his slate and all that stuff that was coming out. He didn't announce that at Comic Con. He brought a bunch of press to Warner Brothers.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Cost him nothing to do. Sent him around and did it. You can have, and he's got the same kind of traction that you would if you're spending thousands upon thousands of dollars to bring in actors and all that. It's like it's not worth it financially for them to do this stuff. So that's part one for D.C. The second is why are they, they're just going to show, they do a Superman panel, I mean, why don't they just do the same thing?
Starting point is 00:10:26 I guess the question is when this movie comes out. I think does it come out the first week of July? Well, Fantastic for I think it's the 24th, so I think it's the 10th. So they're basically going to be doing what Deadpool did. So they'll have Superman will come out and if they want to do something at Comic-Con next year, if they decide they want to do it. I think next year they're going to be huge there. It would make sense because you're going to have Superman, the movie will have come
Starting point is 00:10:52 Supergirl will be right around the corner, right? They're going to have peacemaker. By then they'll know who Batman is. They're probably right. So they have more to do next year if they're going to do it at all, which again, I don't see the need for it. Minus, I mean, their fans are like, shut up, stupid. The whole reason I go is to go to Hall H. And I understand that.
Starting point is 00:11:09 But I'm just saying business-wise for studios. There's a reason why you've seen studios pull out of these things more because not worth the investment. Because last year was the strike, the year before that was the pandemic. Yeah. kind of was so we were coming coming back this year aside from Marvel and they had they had specific
Starting point is 00:11:29 movie panels they had like a Romulus panel but it wasn't like the big you know here's Paramount's big panel and announcing five films and five casts come up not worth it. Warner Brothers wasn't there they did the penguin that was it not worth it penguin and they did Superman and Lois
Starting point is 00:11:44 but they were separate too one show you spend you spend some money on one show you bring Colin Farrell you do do you promote that to get a little more promotion on at that side of it you want to do it for like one particular project but doing the whole big studio bang out it's just not worth the investment I mean I am of the
Starting point is 00:12:00 I do get the kind of like Marvel does put on a show they really I understand what they're doing and this was a very outside of the RDJ thing this was a very mild and expectedly you like you they were because I know a couple of people like oh they're going to throw up the big timeline slate I was like they're not doing anything it's like not going to show TV and they shouldn't and they shouldn't have
Starting point is 00:12:19 Because they're not in that, they're not... They were very tempered and they needed to do that. They focused on the movies that they had shot already, that they knew were coming out, and that they wanted to promote. They did all that. And then they said, okay, we're going to give you one future thing. Well, we'll give you one, maybe two future things within the same package. Here are the Rousseau's and here's our doom.
Starting point is 00:12:41 You know, and they, and that, I still think, unfortunately, for Captain America and the Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four, in that flying car, Downey stole all the headlines from that because it's like you wanted people talking about that other stuff. And I know that it was like, well, they didn't have a big punch until they brought that out. But I think that Downey announced them played much better in the room than it did on the internet. Yeah, it did. And like the cap stuff was okay. Thunderbolts I was very underwhelmed with. And that was what I really wanted. Did you go to the panel? Yeah, we got it. You were at the panel. Okay. Yeah, it was there. So you felt the energy in there when it all went down. And then,
Starting point is 00:13:17 but then you saw it. That's a good question. And when you're sitting in that panel and Downey comes out, must have felt like a wrestling event, you know, to where he hops the shmow down memories for you as the mass comes off and people lose their minds. But did you, are you going, are you buying the hype in the moment?
Starting point is 00:13:38 I'm torn because people had asked me like, or I gave my predictions. I said, we're going to get who Doom is. We're going to get the new Kang. And I said they'll announce three. Russo's as the Secret Wars directors. So I got two out of the three right. But like, because they announced
Starting point is 00:13:55 the Russo's first. And then they're like, and there's only one man that could stop, cause this thing. And in my head, I'm like, okay, is this Kang? And then the room kind of turns green and it's doom. I'm like, oh, here we go. And I'll tell you this. This was mine. And one of the other guys I was with thought the same thing. So when he comes out, the light, he's kind of dark. He pulls his hands up to take the mask up. And it looked like his arms were dark. Yeah. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:14:17 fuck is it denzil washington yeah they talk about the greatest actor of our generation so that i thought it was denzel until it was r dj and then i was kind of like huh um i'm torn because i'm really done with the variance multiverse thing i'm so he's not a variant that makes it more i know they call them victor bundoon no i don't know how this is just he is like gemma chan in the mcc where they're an actor playing a different role completely different right he's phenomenal especially with what he just did in Oppenheimer and see him go that way with it. But then on the other hand, I'm like,
Starting point is 00:14:50 it does feel a little desperate. Like, that's all you had? Yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure. So I don't know how that's going to play, but we covered that kind of extensively on yesterday's show and then I did a whole video on it, so we don't know to get into it again. But I think that you're right when it comes to next year for DC,
Starting point is 00:15:05 even though I don't necessarily think studios should do that. I think that they're going to probably do a bigger push because that's when this is the thickness of it. You've got Superman, which will come out, and I'm sure he's going to have a lot of faith in it. If it does as well as they hope it will be and need it to, then they're going to be able to start promoting Millie Alcock in Supergirl. And then, as you said, I agree, they're probably announced Batman. Jensen Eccles, I don't think anymore will be, I thought he was going to be Batman. I would have taken that, I would have taken that to the Vegas Bank.
Starting point is 00:15:35 I thought that was going to happen. You would have? Really? From all the rumors that I heard going around the scenes, behind the scenes, he went in for meetings. I'll tell you that. And he was, I think he was closer than we thought, but then he went up doing, he's doing this boys prequel thing.
Starting point is 00:15:49 So that's the end of that. Who do you want to see? I don't get, and I like Jensen Nichols, but I don't see that Batman. You didn't see, but you don't watch the boys. You didn't watch the boys. Because I probably would,
Starting point is 00:16:01 I probably would have felt the same way until I saw what he did in the boys. He is great in that show. There is one, I think he's a British actor. And again, I'm kind of of the mind. I wish I want Batman to be an American. actor. I think, you know, it's kind of our, that those are our superheroes, Batman, Superman, they should be American. Tell Christian Bill that. I know, I know. But hey, I'll say this is one of
Starting point is 00:16:24 the biggest James Bond fan in the world. I don't want an American playing James Bond. Right. So anyway, there's a guy that people talk a lot about. I don't know him. I think he's in one of those British shows. He's not, not either the crown or something. Next time we come on, I'll find out. And I was like, oh, this guy looks good. Is that, that's your pick? I don't really have a pick, honestly. I don't, I'm indifferent to it. It depends on the age they're going with. There's a lot of Alan Rich than being thrown away.
Starting point is 00:16:53 I think he's too big. No, are you out of your... That is the stupidest thing of everyone. Giant, big Batman? You beat the piss out of everybody. I don't know. I don't mean a giant big Batman. Nah, he's good. He's Reacher for the next few years. Yeah, I don't want to see that.
Starting point is 00:17:03 I know he's making a pitch to try to be Batman, but I don't want to say. I like Alan Riches a lot. I just don't think that's... I love him. I think he's great. Yeah. I want us to keep him doing Reacher for 10 years. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:12 I got to watch season two of that show. Mike just mentioned Jack Reacher. Tom Cruise played Jack Reacher. We're going to get into a Tom Cruise-esque story in just a moment. But before we do, I got to tell you guys about two of our wonderful sponsors here, I'm going to tell you about Cremont Body Wash and Rocket Money, two companies that I just love working with. And I'll tell you why right now. You got to stop wasting money.
Starting point is 00:17:35 That's what I said to myself. And I said it to myself many times over because I've had these apps. I've looked at these apps and we've all done it, looking at the app going, oh, that's going to be fun. I'll cancel it when it's time, and I forget to, and I look, I got billed for this, I got billed for this, got bill for this, like, oh, no. Well, Rocket Money is a personal finance app, and it tells you about unwanted subscriptions. It tells you it'll cancel the unwanted subscriptions for you, but it does so much more. It does things, whether it's managing and saying, hey, you spent this much money this month
Starting point is 00:18:00 as compared to this month. You can do this, this, this, and this. You have bills coming up. You have all this. Every day, I get notifications from Rocket Money. Every day, I'm looking, oh, it has helped me organize in ways that I never, ever thought I'd be able to, and I love it. So if you go to rocketmoney.com slash thing, it will change your life. You'll love it. Rocket money is so great. It has over five million
Starting point is 00:18:22 users and has saved the total of 500 million and canceled subscriptions. It saves members up to $740 a year when using all the apps features. So you got to stop wasting money on things that you don't use. You can cancel your unwanted subscription. You go to rocketmoney.com slash thing. that's rocketmoney.com slash thing. Rocketmoney.com slash thing. I got to tell you about cremo. That's right, man. So I think you guys also have, last week when I was telling you guys about them,
Starting point is 00:18:53 I got so many people, I can't even tell you how many people I said, yeah, I use cremple. I use it. So, so many times I've been using cremmo and before you even, I even told me about it, Harloff, I knew it. Because for me, after working in the studio all day, I want to go home and I smell like an alley cat. I want to go home and take a shower and relax. So I love going out in the weekends, but sometimes my friends, they want to visit some really nice places. It means I want to smell nice.
Starting point is 00:19:20 My wife and I would go out. You don't want to, like I said, she wants to go with like a mountain lion who's been sleeping garbage. She wants to go with someone smelling nice. That's where Cremont comes in. So you want to elevate and you want to enhance your hygiene routine with Cremont body wash. It combines a rich lathering and hydrating formula with meticulous. meticulously balanced, multi-layered fragrances for a superior shower experience. So I used it, even we were working into the studio here really late.
Starting point is 00:19:48 And so I was like, okay, I used it. I felt great right away. So Cremel works with master perfumers to make sure that every body wash scent is blended and refined, and their hard work definitely shows. Every wash that I've tried, it smells like, it's like really high-end cologne. So I really dig it. I like the new bourbon vanilla men's body wash, which I've been using. It's really good.
Starting point is 00:20:13 Yeah, it's really, really good. So, you know, it gets me clean and it relaxes me after a long day. So check it out. All right, thank you again to both Cremo Body Wash and Rocket Money. I tell you guys this all the time. And a lot of you listen to me. Some don't. If you have the means to and want to support the show,
Starting point is 00:20:30 you should get one of those sponsors because you're buying yourself something in the process and you're helping out this show. So if you can do it, the links are in the description below all right mike let's move on here got this what you got edge of tomorrow baby edge of tomorrow too i love this movie i love this movie i yeah i just watched it again recently i haven't seen it probably within the past month i think the third act falls apart a little bit okay just because i love it's up i love it um but another month another update on how the sequel to two thousand and fourteenth tom cruise and emily blunt led darkly comedic sci-fi war film edge of tomorrow is
Starting point is 00:21:06 going. Now, the film earned 375 million at the global box office from a $175 million budget, but the title became a major home video hit and has since been recognized as a cult hit. Last year, Emily Blunt indicated that a script for the sequel was done. Well, in a report last month, the film's director, Doug Lyman, said that Warner's is keen on getting the long sequel movie saying that the studio is constantly bringing it up and asking, will you go and make another one of these? Now, Lyman is back to offer another update telling Collideries actively working on the script. I mean, Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise have never been more on top of their game than they are right now. It'd be crazy not to be trying to figure out how to make a sequel. So I'm spending
Starting point is 00:21:45 the time trying to crack it. Time travel is really tough. All you have to do is develop a movie with time travel to come to the conclusion that humans will never travel through time because it's hard to figure out a third act than a movie with Time Trip. This article pretty much covers what I was saying. It's like, where you have Tom Cruise, you got Emily Blunt right now who are in when he say this about Tom Cruise, hard to imagine saying it. He is once again on another level. We need Tom Cruise to do more stuff. And Emily Blunt is one of the biggest stars that we have right now.
Starting point is 00:22:17 So you hear this report, Mike, and you hear obviously with the success of Top Gun and with Mission Impossible right around the corner. And Emily Blunt, and it seems like every movie that comes out, is this a no-brainer that Warner Brothers wants to, push this along and do you think it'll actually happen? I think it's funny that, you know, I remember when it came out, it didn't,
Starting point is 00:22:39 wasn't a huge hit. It's okay. Yeah, it really caught off. The trailers were terrible. The trailers were terrible. People with the title, hated the title and, yeah. But it's a really good movie. And I think maybe they realized that.
Starting point is 00:22:51 And of course, you know, Tom Cruise is a different place than he was in 2014 when it came out. You know, he's much, he kind of reignited. Yeah. It got bigger and bigger. And the stunts, you know, and his whole kind of persona took over. Emily Blund, of course,
Starting point is 00:23:05 is massive now created what she was in 2014. I think they're looking for something else, you know, outside of D.C. Sure. To give him some... Yeah, why wouldn't they? And build it.
Starting point is 00:23:17 And, I mean, well, you say how much longer is Tom having the tank, but the guy seems to be immortal. So it seems like he's... This is a movie that should happen. And this is a movie with Doug Lyman, Cruz. And it's going to happen. It's going to happen.
Starting point is 00:23:33 The question is just a matter of when, right? And if Warner's is really knocking on the door saying, what do you need for this thing to get going? It's just the only thing that Tom Cruise right now, what he seems to do, I don't think that Tom Cruise is going to get the memo about, hey, let's make movies for cheaper now these days. I don't think that he's going to do that.
Starting point is 00:23:54 He doesn't seem like the type of person that understands that, because this Mission Impossible movie, Mike, I hate to tell you this, this Mission Impossible movie that's coming out, I'm sure it's going to be good. I'm sure you're going to love it. It has a steep hill to climb with that budget. $400 million, whatever it is, that's going to be tough to be. Now, are they saying it's $400 million for just this part eight?
Starting point is 00:24:16 That's what I heard. I don't know how true is. I don't know about it. That sounds like nonsense. I don't doubt it. The last one, granted, a lot more stuff happening because of the COVID situation that they had to spend more money into it, but they still spent more than that money,
Starting point is 00:24:29 that movie probably should have. It also, and I think you say this kind of famously, that that movie came out at a terrible spot. I think it came out the week either week after Barbie and Oppenheimer. It was right before. A week before. It was a week before? Yeah. Yeah, because they lost, because Cruz was really
Starting point is 00:24:46 pissed off because he lost all the IMAX. Of course. You know. What do you expect? I mean, that was really bad. I mean, the same way that I think that Twisters would have made more money if they would have opened up three weeks earlier. Well, I think Twisters are like, let's get in and get out.
Starting point is 00:25:02 You made money. I don't think they thought it was going to be some massive, massive hit. No, but to your IMAX point, you could hold on to a few more IMAX screenings for at least three more weeks and Deadpool took all the screenings. Yeah, you're right. I mean, a movie like
Starting point is 00:25:18 to me, I would rather see a Twisters in IMAX than a Deadpool in IMAX. Do we have this conversation about that? Because I've had this conversation with somebody recently and I think that most people felt the same way that twisters is more of a iMacs movie than deadpool like it's tough with with um mission impossible and oppenheimer like those are both iMacs movies yeah they do this thing in new york the real
Starting point is 00:25:42 x-d or whatever what is but it has like it's got the for twisters that blows wind on you when the twisters are coming you they sprinkle you can choose to if it wants you to sprinkle water on you and does all this crazy stuff i don't know if uh my brother keeps pushing me to try to go and do it but um But that does seem like more of an event that that you can do that for than Deadpool. Now, you saw Deadpool and Wolverine, right? I did, yeah. Because you were hesitant about it. What would you end up thinking?
Starting point is 00:26:12 I loved it. Yeah? Like, such a great, like, I don't know if we talked about this. My only kind of biggest fear was it was going to be just a cameo fest going from Fox movie to Fox movie, and it was going to lose the heart of what I loved of the first, especially the first one. And they doubled down on the heart. So, you know, with Vanessa and him.
Starting point is 00:26:30 then Logan. So yeah, I had a blast. I'll tell you this, I was pissed off. So everyone had been really good about spoilers. You know, I'm walking the floor Wednesday night. And I walk by the marble panel, a marble booth. And there's a giant mural. It's kind of like all the animated live action, the TV kind of filling out the words Marvel. And I turn my head, and there's a giant spoiler painted on the side of the mural. I'm like, ah, are you kidding me? So Marvel kind of screwed everyone over at Comic-Con with that. Now, you had, but had you seen the movie already or no? I had not seen it yet.
Starting point is 00:27:07 Oh, you hadn't seen it yet. Okay. It was, I don't want to say it. No, don't say it yet. Yeah, it was a character that was rumored, right, right, right. Actor that was rumored to be in it. But I hadn't thought about it. There was no pictures of this person.
Starting point is 00:27:20 So, but then to see it and it was clearly this person, the MCU version of this person. I'm like, fine hell, man. Right. So, but, but you got a kick out of it. You got a lot of laughs and all that. Great time. Yeah, I saw it.
Starting point is 00:27:33 Actually, I'll tell you this, we, me and Shannon McClellan, we got tickets to see it Sunday night. You know, we'll cap off Comic-Con, kind of our end of our night. We'll come and see it back home. And then we got into this, our friend bought tickets for Friday morning in San Diego. So we were both driving home on Sunday. We're like, do you want to see it? So I was like, yeah, I'd see it. We brought our girlfriends and brought his wife.
Starting point is 00:27:54 And then I actually enjoyed it more the second time. Oh, okay. because I wasn't waiting like okay who's going to show up next who's going to show up next like I kept waiting for the cameos because you knew they were coming right right so when I could not expect that and just enjoy the movie
Starting point is 00:28:09 I actually liked it better that makes sense that yeah that second viewing was great a lot of the jokes that I couldn't hear because everyone was laughing the first time I was able to pick up on I thought it was it was going to play like a more rewatchable movie as I was watching I could see a lot of people going back for the laughs
Starting point is 00:28:26 on this one the movie is just doing gangbusters right now. I think it's going to hit a billion next week, they said. It's already hit 500, or it'll hit 500 by today. So yeah, Deadpool and Wolverine, Mike was able to check that out. We talked about the edge of tomorrow, whether or not you guys think it should happen. I want to hear your comments. Put your thoughts in there, man.
Starting point is 00:28:44 Do you think this is a movie that should happen? And if you saw Deadpool and Wolverine, what were your overall thoughts there? Because the MCU seems to be battling back a little bit. But Mike has said this before, and I agree with him, that, Now, you mentioned you said you didn't love the Captain America stuff? No, no, it's not that I didn't like it. There just seems so much around it. Like all the reshoots, I mean, you've got Tim Blake Nelson, you've got Red Hulk,
Starting point is 00:29:14 and you've got Giancarlo Esposito in there. It's tough because, like, it says three major villains. You know, Anthony Mackey drops this thing that he's got extra hulks in there, that there's more hulks and the Serpent Society. so I don't know man and then Isaiah Bradley's supposed to be in there with you know his whole storyline I want to like it
Starting point is 00:29:33 I want to yeah well you've got this you got Captain America and yeah that's that show need I mean excuse me that movie needs to hit if they want to keep the momentum going of what Daredevil and Wolverine Deadpool Wolverine just did yeah I mean it's a very good point because
Starting point is 00:29:49 I don't think this is the movie that you know will show that they're back on track. This movie's going to happen regardless, you know, and hit what it does. And also, let me ask you this. At the end of Deadpool, I actually thought it would let us know
Starting point is 00:30:05 the state of what's going forward to the MCU much better than it did. Agreed. But what I will say, what they said in Captain America, though, which is interesting is they're talking about Adamantium and they're talking about these other things inside of it where it looks like they are eventually, I think that what they realize is that
Starting point is 00:30:20 their big play is both Fantastic Four and X-Men. And they're trying to get of the multiverse as smoothly as they can. That's what it felt like at the panel. I was like, all right, we got these three more movies. Let's wrap this multiverse stuff up. Let's get to the X-Men. That's exactly what it feels.
Starting point is 00:30:36 Like I think they're sweeping Kang under the rug. I think they're gonna get through these couple films. Someone made a very good point though. One of the guys I was with, they feel in the Captain America trailer, there was an ADR line where he says, I want you to reform the Avengers. And that wasn't in the trailer.
Starting point is 00:30:54 and the scene that they shot and it happened off screen he's looking at Sam Wilson but it's an ADR line of Ford going I want you to reform the Avengers and we think oh I'll bet the Rousseau's came in because they're kind of now
Starting point is 00:31:09 you know have to tailor to what they're going to do and we think that was an added line to kind of set up what because we thought about it they've only got three films before this big world changing thing and none of these characters are together
Starting point is 00:31:24 They're not any kind of form of team up at all. These will be the most connected at all the movies, right? You're going to have Captain America that's going to connect. It has to be. It's going to connect to whatever events happen in Thunderbolts, which is going to connect to Fantastic Four. And Fantastic Four, as I said, it wasn't, they also wanted to make sure that they,
Starting point is 00:31:41 it wasn't a coincidence that they start shooting Fantastic Four, what is it, two days ago, yesterday, whatever it was, and they announced Downey because guess who's showing up in a post-credit scene? Oh, of course. You know, 100%. That's where you're the first time you're going to see him. is going to be in that. That's another reason why you're going to get even more butts in the seats to see
Starting point is 00:32:00 how they're going to introduce him as Doom. Yeah. So the reason I bring all that up is because then they have, and there was no TV at Marvel. No. Smartly enough. Because that's why when you go to D23, which is promoting all their Disney stuff, it's Disney Plus, you should promote the stuff that's on Disney Plus there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:20 And that's what they're doing. And one of the things that they'll talk about for sure is, Agatha. So this is a quote, Mike, I don't think I love. Earlier this month, Marvel Studios premiered the first trailer for its Catherine Hahn led Wanda Vision spin-off Agatha all along. When what caught people by surprise was the tone, which played more horror than expected. It also finally showed off the story which seems to be a treasure hunt film with Agatha broken free by a suspicious goth team played by Joe Locke, but lacking mystical powers. The pair chose to enlist a group of desperate witches to traverse the legendary witches road,
Starting point is 00:32:53 a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, reward to which with what they are missing. A new profile in Empire Online has gone into more detail about the series and confirms it is indeed in the adventure slash horror vibe with Locke telling the outlet that the showrunner Jay Sheffer has compared it to an iconic 80s film. Jack sent Kevin Feigy a picture of the Witch's Road set and he replied, oh my God, we're making the goonies.
Starting point is 00:33:17 That's what I'd been saying, that we were making this adventure series. Han says that the show allows her to explore a new direction for her villainous character, a more vulnerable side hidden under all the externally projected bravado. We've seen her with all the bravado and crazy confidence, so much of Agatha's performance. It was exciting to get to the kernel under the sass and the sarcasm and taking pleasure in other people's pain. There's something broken under that big time.
Starting point is 00:33:42 Okay, so there's two ways to look at this series. And I think that the first way is probably the way that you should, and that's Weirwold by night. It's got to be a Halloween special type thing. And you look at it, you say, oh, this is something fun to watch during the holidays, and that's it. The other way is, well, what we were just talking about?
Starting point is 00:34:02 What does this do to play into all of this stuff that we just talked about? The multiverse, the new Captain America, Thunderbolts, or you just like Werewolf by night, by night, say, stay over there, have some fun. Everybody likes Catherine Hahn. Do your thing. Let's get people to watch this during the holidays,
Starting point is 00:34:24 and they can revisit it whenever they want. I like the horror aspect. Everybody's making goonies now. Skeleton crew is making goonies. They're making goonies. Oh, my God, we're making goonies. I would have wrote back, why? Why are you making goonies?
Starting point is 00:34:40 Stick to the horror thing. Oh, my God, it's a venture film. Why? I say that, like, why are they making the show? At all? at all. Like, and again, I get it. It was back during the early days of Disney Plus when greenlight everything.
Starting point is 00:34:55 Her character was a hit. Yeah. Every episode, people clamoring for more of her. You knew there was a studio exec going, we want more of her. Here's some money. Go make a show about her. Is this going to tie into what's happening with the multiverse or no?
Starting point is 00:35:09 But now it's like, it seems like it's not even dealing with Scarlet Witch. She's going to be off on her own on some little Wizard of Oz thing. Yeah. Okay. But it's not on a showcase for. for Catherine Han for 12 episodes, great. You know, she's able to watch, but I just don't know. It's a side adventure thing that I think that, and that's fine.
Starting point is 00:35:26 And that's fine. I mean, it's almost like what, it's almost like what, not in the same as far as tone, but you look at like Penguin, right? Penguin is a, is not connected to the new DC. It's connected to the Batman, but it's not, it's something completely different. And it's like, okay, this is, it's like this gangster thing, which is incredible. And did you go to that too? I did.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Yeah, I was there for that. I haven't watched the second trailer because I didn't want to, I didn't want to. It was more of the same. Okay. In a good way. Like, you know, Matt, but hearing those guys talk about this show and what they want to do and building out the world of the Batman.
Starting point is 00:36:03 Yeah. Yeah, everything's hitting on that. Like this, like what you talk about, what you said about, I forget, it was Boba Fett. I don't know if it was Godfather that compared it to, right? This is Sopranos meets Batman. Right. Which is what I'm excited about.
Starting point is 00:36:16 So, but it should be. Now, when you look at it, and to give Agatha credit, right? Now, whether or not you agree with whether or not it should have been made, and I happen to agree with you 100%, where it's like, yeah, at the time, they're like, oh, we want to do an Agatha show now too, and it's Catherine Hahn. She wants to do it, and everybody loved Wanda Vision, which they did, and let's do it.
Starting point is 00:36:37 And then they're like, well, we wanted to change everything. Yeah, but we got her already. We shot a lot of this stuff. Why don't we just do a Halloween special? And let's have some fun with it. And that's what I think they're going to wind up doing. And I think that it could be fun. It could be, it could be.
Starting point is 00:36:55 But I just, I agree that it's not, I don't think you should, as a Marvel fan, you shouldn't go into it saying, oh, well, what's this going to do? Do I need to see this? I'm comparing into this in the multiverse. I think it's a good thing that they're just going to have it as kind of like a separate thing that doesn't really have much to do with anything. Yeah, I agree, 100%. Yeah. But the ship has sailed on it. they were making this for a while before the whole Marvel need to pause and redo. So, yeah,
Starting point is 00:37:22 I don't think we're going to be getting a season two of Agatha all along. All right, put your comments in there and tell me what you think about Agatha. Did you like the trailers that you saw? Do you like the idea that it's going to be goonies? Do you like the fact that, hey, it is a side adventure. It is a Halloween thing. It's something I want to watch during the holidays. I don't need it to connect. So what say you? Put your comments in there and tell me what you think. And what I'm going to tell you what I think. I'm going to tell you how much I love of gentle bands and of course better help them. I'll tell you about both of them right now.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Okay guys, before we move on, I get to talk about gentle bands again. Now if you're watching my show recently, you saw me bring up gentle bands, well, I get to bring them up again. Check this out. I'm opening this one up just for you. Last time I got a pretty good looking ring with this one,
Starting point is 00:38:06 this is the sports ring collection. It is the Athlos, and it's a tribute to the Olympics, and it celebrates the eternal spirit of sports that people have developed over the century. Gentle bands chose Athos as their collection name, it's a Greek word meaning a contest or competition encompassing any kind of feat or a challenge. And you can see it. Look at that. That is a thick ring.
Starting point is 00:38:27 And that feels like the gods made it. Look at that. It feels solid. I like that a lot. Each ring design is inspired by legendary gods and titans of Greek mythology. In addition to the rings and the chains, they've also developed cufflings for this collection. This ring is just awesome. It's made of tungsten.
Starting point is 00:38:42 It's like thick. It's strong. you can get more information on each ring at the website itself. They came up with an alternative solution. You got this chain, really thick, wonderful chain actually. And if some people, when they're playing sports or they're playing or they're at the gym, it becomes a little awkward. So they came up with this idea to put it on a chain.
Starting point is 00:39:03 So check this out. Easy. Got yourself a necklace now. Put it up there. Done deal. I got my ring. I got it on a chain. And it really is.
Starting point is 00:39:11 It's a really solid piece. So here's the beauty. You can get 25%. You get a discount from me, but you got to put in KH channel and here is the link. It is in the description. First thing you're going to see is gentle bands, click on that link and you get 25% off. I mean, come on. It's the Olympics, baby, and this is the perfect time to do it.
Starting point is 00:39:29 It's a really smart idea. And I love gentle bands. They have just done amazing work. This is my second ring with them and I'm sure it's not going to be my last. So thanks to gentle bands, check it out. And let me know what you think. This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. I want to ask you guys, what are your self-care non-negotiables?

Starting point is 00:40:58 please consider one of our sponsors. All right. Moving on, Mike, let's check this out. Okay, Jason Reitman's untitled Saturday Night Live launch night project has scored an official title, simply called Saturday night, and it has set in October 11th release date in cinemas. Sony Pictures will distribute the film, which is arriving on the same day of the year that the legendary NBC comedy show is ever broadcast back in 1975. It also comes ahead of the series launching its 50th season this fall. The new date has led to suggestions that the film will have its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September. A trailer drop is also likely very shortly. The packed cast includes Gabriel LeBell, Dylan O'Brien, Corey Michael Smith,
Starting point is 00:41:38 Rachel Sonat, Lamarne Morris, Nicholas Braun, John Batiste, Ella Hunt, Cooper Hoffman, and the list goes on and on. J.K. Simmons and more. Ritman directs from a script co-written with Gil Cannon and based on a true story. The real-time film follows the behind-the-scenes events in the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live. You know, I had no idea that this movie was coming out this year. I thought it was coming out next year, which I thought, I thought, 70. There's no visual effects in it or hardly any, so. I would just think 75 to 2025 probably made sense,
Starting point is 00:42:15 but they're putting it out in 2024, and I think it's the 50th year anniversary too, which I think 50th season. I don't know. Yeah. I don't freaking know. Anyway, point is, I'm very excited for this. I want to see how they're going to do it.
Starting point is 00:42:30 I know Jason Reitman's probably definitely a student of the game, knew a lot of these people, kind of growing up, and I want to see what they're going to do how the actors are going to channel some of these people. I'm very curious about it. Are you pumped about this one? I am, yeah. One of my friends that I went to,
Starting point is 00:42:48 that I was in Orlando with an acting class, she's in it. She's one of the writers. Oh, okay. One of the playing, acting as one of the writers, yeah, on the show. I'm excited for it.
Starting point is 00:43:02 Yeah. I am too. I think that it's going to be, I mean, I love, the idea that comes out in October. I love the idea that, you know, we're getting a trailer for it. I think the trailer's going to say a lot about it. Trailer's going to say a lot in the same way that did you see that Bob Dylan trailer? I have not, no. Oh, man, Timothy Chalamee right now. You
Starting point is 00:43:18 talk about somebody whose star is on the up and up. This dude, I mean, I like Timothy Chalamee and I was like, Shallomay is Dylan? Oh, my God. Nailed it. Nailed it. And I think that that's what I want to see when I turn this on. You know, I want to go, oh my God, it looks like a young Dan Aykroyd that looks like a balooshy, oh my God, I mean you're going to see there's going to be Milton, Joe K. Simmons is Milton Burl. Can you cast any more perfect than that? Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:43:45 I mean, that's perfect. That's perfect. I can't wait to say. I mean, it's perfect. So I'm definitely, I'm pumped for it and I think Jason Reitman's the right person. It's interesting because I just remember, I feel like yesterday we're talking about this just getting cast. And I guess because it's a smaller budget, smaller movie. Yeah, they can, you can knock this
Starting point is 00:44:04 out it within seven, eight months or whatever it is, because it feels like it was like yesterday that they announced it a while back. Yeah? So, okay, maybe. I thought at least the beginning of this year. Right. But even, even then, like the beginning of this year to come out this year. But it was probably last year was when this stuff was announced. I mean, the news stories kind of blend in, all blend in, is the same whatever year when you're reporting on them and talking about them. But I think that this one is in what's, I think that I'm also
Starting point is 00:44:36 bummed because had I known it was coming out in 2024, I probably would have had it on my most anticipated list because it wasn't on there. There are a few other ones, but anyway, I ask you guys, though, is this a movie that you care about?
Starting point is 00:44:51 Is Saturday Night Live something that's in your range still? Is it something you want to see what Jason Reitman's going to do with this? Do you not care? Do you think got a potential for awards. What say you? Put your thoughts in there and let us know. Mike,
Starting point is 00:45:05 are you watching, have you watched Umbrella Academy? No. So I hadn't, and then I'm having one of the, the actor plays Diego, I'm having them on the show and we're gonna,
Starting point is 00:45:16 and so I decided I wanted, obviously, to dive into it. I actually really like it. It's a pretty good show. Everyone that does watch it loves it. Yeah, I really liked it. Yeah. I didn't realize,
Starting point is 00:45:26 I thought it was like, you know, when it first started, I'm like, I don't know, I feel like I've seen this as a, X-Men rip off. It's not at all. No.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Not even close. It's a really, it's really good. Well-written. I mean, again, I'm only into season one, but so far I'm definitely enjoying it. I'm enjoying it for sure. I have a Clips channel that we're almost, I think we're almost at 700 subscribers on that channel. And I hope that people will subscribe to it because I'm going to clip out a lot of this stuff,
Starting point is 00:45:52 news stories, but I'm also clipping out a bunch of, whenever we have an interview, I'm doing a bunch of clipouts there. So we're trying, I think we'd, we'd, If you're watching this and you want to help us out, you want to get us to a thousand subscribers, I think I need like 250 of you today to sign up to that channel, subscribe to the links in the description there.
Starting point is 00:46:10 M. Knight Shammel. He's coming back again. And he's got this movie trap coming out. And so this is what I heard about this movie. So this movie, I'd look to try to get a screening for it, and they were only given screenings to people who were doing interviews for the film. And I couldn't get anybody from the film, so I couldn't see the movie.
Starting point is 00:46:29 And I was like, oh, is that? a problem? Because a lot of times when they don't screen for critics. Right. That means, uh-oh. Yeah. But the news that I heard was the reason they didn't screen it is because there's such a big twist. They don't want it to get out.
Starting point is 00:46:44 That's the, okay. So like watching this movie, I was the trailer, I was, talked to someone and I was go, what do you think the twist is? And it's like, I think you see it is he's the guy. And I was like, no way. I don't think Josh Hartnett is the killer. I don't think so anymore. No.
Starting point is 00:46:58 There's something. major that's going to flip it on its head. I just hope it's not the daughter. Oh. I hope it's not the daughter. Yeah, that there's something's major. It's too on the nose at heart and it's the guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:13 It seems that way. It seems that way. But who knows? Nonetheless, they're not screening it and they don't want it to come out. It's big twist. And so not only does, M. Night's Chomelot is out there doing interviews to movies. He's back in cinemas with the judge. Hardinet-led Trap, which follows in the wake of the resurgence in his career in recent years.
Starting point is 00:47:33 The genre filmmaker broke through with a sixth sense, followed by several well-received successes, including Unbreakable and signs. The tide, though, began to turn with the village, which scored a more mixed response, and then Lady in the Water began a run of critical and commercial disasters, including the happening, the last airbender, and after Earth. Looking back at those duds while speaking with the Atlantic, Shamaun says if he could make the village over again, he'd do everything the same. He adds that he still loves Lady in the Water.
Starting point is 00:47:59 However, the two films that weren't based on his own ideas, the last Airbender and after Earth, aren't so fondly remembered. Dubbing them his hired gun phase, he says, I'm so bad at that. I'm so bad at that, and I felt so empty. Shumelan then took a loan against his house to fund the low budget the visit in 2015, which cost just $5 million, and it made $98 million. Since then, he's had a successful run at Universal with split, glass, old, knock in the cabin. with Trap, he shifts to Warner Brothers Pictures who opens the film this Friday. Okay, so here's all say about this guy. And I don't know if it was his fault,
Starting point is 00:48:40 more so the PR machine that came out with that Time Magazine article that called Is This the Next Spielberg and all that in his young career? That was just a mistake to do overall. And he had those bad runs, and good on him, he admits it, I'm just not good at the hired gun thing. But what he did very, very smart was when he teamed up with Blumhouse and he started doing what we've been
Starting point is 00:49:00 singing to the heavens here about is these low-budget movies, that lower-budget movies that you can make and if they make $95 million on $5 million, you look like a king again. And that's what he's been doing. Now I wonder, this movie doesn't look like as a giant movie for Warner Brothers,
Starting point is 00:49:18 I mean, as far as budget. So if you can get people buzzing about it and you can get people in the theater, this is the career that the guy, guy needs to it's smart it's smart business so I root for him I root for him at this point yeah yeah I do do too say I love hearing everything he said about the hired gun stuff and doing now what he loves and what he's his best at so yeah what do you think about this movie though is this is something that you it's exciting I mean are you gonna go see it though yeah see it you gonna see it I'm not a big
Starting point is 00:49:45 horror guy all the time but this is more thriller it's more thriller I think it's yeah I'm digging it and I like the idea even when we started talking you and I in the beginning of like we're like, well, what's the twist? Right? It's like, yeah, the idea of like, well, I want to go see what it is. Am I going to, what I don't want to happen is that I want to go, well, we saw that come and was the daughter. Or if it's like, or we're sitting there going, eh, it's kind of lame that that happened.
Starting point is 00:50:10 I want to, I'm, when I say I'm rooting for him, I want to be like, I did not see that coming at all. Wow, that dumped it on his head. And I'm so glad that they didn't screen that for a lot of people. So they were able to keep that quiet. That's, that's what I'm rooting for. Yeah, I agree. I tell you, you're not the best color commentary person in the world for nothing.
Starting point is 00:50:31 I got Johnny Lawmower that left your place when you left, he was like, I miss Christian, I missed the gang. So he came over to your place. I got to come over here. So now I got Tommy Leafblower over here. Okay, well, ask him what he thinks about Sean Malone movies. All right, let's move on then because your commentary is just second tier here. All right, here we go. Let's check this out.
Starting point is 00:50:51 So Mike, I know you don't watch House of the Dragon. You don't watch Game. You got that right. How's that for commentary? Terrible. So what I will say is this, though. I think that you'll be able to at least chime in on this. The House of the Dragon season two finale leaked online. In late 2020, well, if you let me read the story, you can have all that information. In late 2022, Game of Thrones spinoff series, House of the Dragon, suffered an online leak. It was the first season finale popping up online two days ahead of its intended air date.
Starting point is 00:51:21 Well, cut to today. It's happened again. This time, half an hour of the show's second season finale emerged online via social media full five days ahead of its intended broadcast according to variety. The videos leaked onto TikTok on Tuesday night with the clips pulling tens of thousands of views before taking down a few hours of posting. The TikTok account was banned, but the damage was done as the videos have made their way onto social media platform. The first seasonally came from a distribution partner in the EMEA region according to HBO at the time. No word officially on HBO about this one and where it might originate. One of the first seasonally, one, candidate it won't be is media screeners at HBO as HBO tried to head off piracy of the
Starting point is 00:52:02 second finale by not sending out early screeners to journalists that obviously hasn't had any impact it's not done unusual for the franchise as Game of Thrones has had a share of online leaks over its eight season run with some episodes even ending up push to legitimate platforms earlier than HBO anticipated. All right Mike so do you you believe in you think that this is a bunch of BS or what? I don't know is it intentional Did someone go in to find this to do this? Seems like it is because if they had this happen before. Well, the distribution partner last time let it happen.
Starting point is 00:52:34 It doesn't seem to be. Was it just because they hit the wrong button or something? Like, whoops. I don't know. We went to send save. We hit send. And then someone picked it up and then he dropped it all over TikTok and all those things. But it's just to seem.
Starting point is 00:52:45 You got to be so careful. If you're a fan of that show, what do you want to watch it like the way it's supposed to be? 100%. I'm so glad you brought that up because I'm like, even I'm like, I didn't search for it all. I want to watch it on TV. I want to watch it on my big screen. I want to watch it on, I want to be left alone. I mean, I love, I love this season.
Starting point is 00:53:03 I don't want to find it. And half an hour, watch a half an hour, I'm like, well, what the hell happens next? Yeah, I don't do that. It's like people always want to feel like they're ahead of something. That's what it comes down. Right. I had time for that nonsense. But it's what it is.
Starting point is 00:53:16 It's like people feel like they're ahead of something. And it's like, oh, yeah, yeah, I saw it first. I saw it before you did. So, ha, ha, ha. And it's like, it doesn't, it ruins. ruins and I haven't heard anything about the finale. I don't want to. I just absolutely love the show.
Starting point is 00:53:32 It's one of the best things on TV right now. What are you watching on TV right now? Are you watching anything? What am I watching? What are not really?
