What's up, everybody? How you doing? Spider-Man brand-new day is getting brand-new scenes in the digital release. There's a lot of TV stuff going on today because Roxy and it's Moxie and me. And we're going to be talking about lanterns and what we think of the season so far. We're going to talk about Apple TV having its biggest week ever. Reacher got renewed for another season. If we hit it to the 29th, we would get the 16 person Schmodeon tournament. And yesterday I said, look, I'm probably, because people are so excited about it, even if we don't hit it on the goal, you know, as long as we do within the next week, but we might actually hit the goal. I think today during this show,

we're going to hit the 200K. Well, if you look right now, I mean, anybody in there right now can get us over. Anybody who wants it can get us over right now. We hit the goal. We make it. We do it. Well, not even just anybody, but okay. What?

The way that you do. Stop getting rid of me. Sorry. You can't get rid of me. No, I know that. I'm the one who lets this to your attention. I know that's true. I can't get rid of you.

I know. What are you going to say? Well, it's not even just anybody. Like, you keep doing the 8,000 people for $25. Like, this is like if, if, quick math, Roxy, 10 people, 20 people give $25. You're over. I know. And then we can start to the actual, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, I thought that you needed to hit 200,000 within 24 hours to do the 16 person tournament.

Now, what comes with that is being able to try to get to that boardwalk goal because now we are, we have the obligations now that every person who put in, we got to make sure they get everything that they ask for and everything that they, that they pledged for. And now every dollar that people give is to make your life easier. And every now just makes a pilot a little better. Yeah, much. Because right now, right now with this, which we'd do in a heartbeat if we had to, we're doing, we're making the show on our, like, iPhones and stuff and doing things of that nature or maybe, you know, whatever it might be. We're going to, you'd have to sketch tape it together, which we can do, but we'll do something, which would be amazing. But we're boardwalk kind of pieced out that, the stretch goals stuff of what we can do. And now we have more things to do. now I got to shoot a video to thank everybody.

You guys, that's the other thing, too, is you guys made this happen. You guys made this happen. We talked about this. We've been talking about this for a year that we were going to do this and we were going to prove everybody. There were so many threads and other things and people saying, the audience is too small. They'll never do it. They'll never do it.

And we said, excuse me. And we all did it. We all did it. Hell, you did it. You guys did this. And so I hope. that there's a sense of pride. I hope there's a sense of, I said I was going to push this asshole to do it. And I hope it's also because I wanted this motherfucker to shut up about it finally and

just and go about the movie news. But this is your doing. You guys have done this. And we did it in seven days. We didn't and literally seven days from when we started to now. And we still have about three weeks left to really make a statement. Thank you. Thank you very much. I mean, I can't, I can't thank you enough. We literally had to shoot Mandalorian and Grogu in, like, stint yesterday, because I went from here. She came in. we shot like the first like 40 minutes and I had to take a break and I did Campia show and then I was done with Campy a show. Chris, you got to turn the thing off on your phone.

Chance was a multi-team's champion, won the Inner Geekton tournament, got himself to play Marisol McKee for the title. And he was one of the few people, present company excluded, who kept in touch, not asking, never really,

he was always, when I was leaving, he just went, Chance came over, brought his lunch, bought some lunch, and just sat with me and ate his lunch and talked before I left. Came out,

came to my studio, we just hung out. He wanted to say goodbye. And I love Chance. I think Chance is a really good kid. And I'm excited to see him play in the tournament. And he probably could win the damn thing. Really?

Chance. Chance is really talented and really knowledgeable. But. Yeah, Chance and I never got there. Did you ever get a chance to really hang out with him, though? I told you, I don't remember what I did that bothered him so much. He didn't like me, like legitimately didn't like me. Is that true?

Yeah, I don't remember what it was. It was something early on. And then he told a bunch of people he didn't like me. Oh, he was so young, though. Like, he was like 21 or something. He's responding right now, so I guess he is watching. Good. I mean, you seem to love him.

Mikey loves him. I'm sure he's a great kiddo. He's a great kid. He is a great kid. But yeah, we just never. That's fair. Well, maybe you guys can reconcile now that we're doing it. There's nothing to reconcile.

He said, in fairness, the prank idea I had was more elaborate than that, but that's roughly the gist. He said, I know Roxy's going to get pissed at hearing this,

but I'm really fucking proud of you, man. Congratulations. No, I don't. I know because you said it. Because they impressed the proud thing. Yeah, totally. But he supported it. So you get to stay proud.

True. When you help make something happen, you're allowed to be proud of it. It's crazy that right now I'm looking. Yeah, I'm refreshed, refresh, refresh, too. I mean, the fact there were 200,000 208 between Derek and everybody else who pushed us over today, pretty insane. We have 24 days to go.

It's incredible. 24 days to read. really build out and really make a solid, solid pilot and something that looks like Roxy would watch on TV. Yeah. Hell yeah. And I will because I'll be on set. 1,362 people.

That's like, that's how many backers you said? 1,362 people. That's super cool question. It's amazing. It's amazing. And it's, you know, like I said, I can't even tell you how many people. And not even necessarily people being negative. of just stat people who are saying it's going to be very difficult for you to do this in 30 days

is what I heard that multiple times from from from analysts and yeah I know somebody who said that to you yeah yeah and it wasn't and it was it was it was nothing except math it had it had nothing to do it was I hope that you're able to do this and it was it came from a place of just just be prepared type thing and then besides that person who I love by the way yeah me too the there was also and by the way that person should have said that because statistically that is true from when you look at the numbers and stuff too and then I talked to these other people that we were considering to run the Kickstarter and they said the same thing they said it's going to be really hard for you with this with these numbers and this to reach this so you should you should you should manage your expectations that it it probably you won't be able to do this probably in 30 days that's why it is so important. to surround yourself with dreamers. Like, I'm not saying those people shouldn't say those things.

When you are trying to do something that's so little percentage of the population can do, kind of like the last thing you need sometimes is to be brought back down to earth. Yeah. I understand where everybody is coming from, but I don't know, man. Like, when somebody has a dream,

to be the person that throws cold water on it, There's a difference between cold water, like that particular thing. And realistic expectation. Yeah. No, I know. Those two examples, I don't think were necessarily cold water. Now, there was a lot of other things. And that is what, that's why I always tell people.

And I'll probably tell people this now that I'm going to be excited to talk to so many during that 40-day challenge thing that we're officially doing now. When are you starting that? Is it during the campaign? Well, Luke and I are going to have to figure all that out. Okay. And figure out schedule-wise and how that works. And it would be after the campaign because, you know,

we just have to make sure that now the campaign isn't now that people have officially paid for it because you don't get charged until the end of the campaign so when that happens one of the things I'm going to tell you is don't use doubt and don't use negativity necessarily as something to deter you from your dream use it to inspire you um because that's what I I there were there were a handful of thread saying he'll never do it is this is there's no chances that this will ever happen the audience His audience, the live audience is too small to do it. No one really cares from the reaction side of it. No one can.

And like I said, the thing was, it's a matter of, it's a matter of belief in the project. If you believe in it, and this is anything, this isn't just this. This was Schmo down too. This is Schmo's no. This was any of this stuff that, the Collider Live, can't do this, won't work. No one will care. Fart jokes won't work. This one, no, no, no, no, won't work, won't work, won't work for work.

use that and say, well, I believe that it will. Don't be angry, but say, I believe it will and I know that it will because of this. So there you go. I think it's that part, though, Christian, that is super important that a lot of people are missing. I know it will because of this. So like, number one, yes, I believe in order to be successful, extremely successful in whatever you'd want to do, you have to be slightly delusional. like a little delulu because if you are not,

then you're not thinking far enough. You got to dream big. But that part a lot of people talk about. But the second part is that that has to be backed up with hard work and strategy. And what I think is not recognize as much, Christian, is this wasn't just you being like, I have an idea. You know, growing up, my dad always had to me three stats.

idea plan happen you have to have an idea and you make a plan in order to make it happen and your plan was very smart here like signing on people like Greg as a producer obviously Andrew freed who like you have cultivated an amazing friendship and relationship with for forever um not for this moment but to be able to bring him in and to re-workshop your script so many times not have an ego in it you and martini deciding like, okay, we're going to send it to people who are writers, people who love television, people who can give us legitimate notes to then implement those notes. And then to really hire somebody to set the tiers, the tears that people want, to do an entire photo shoot, to do that video shoot.

Like, you really plan this campaign. This wasn't like, give me money. I have an idea. This was like, here's the plan. And if you guys want to see this and here's all the people. pieces that I've implemented. And you are also waited until you had a big enough following, until you grew this audience, until you had done successful shows like Schmodeown.

Yeah. And had more like cred. So. Well, this was also, Roxy, it was, it's also the thing was, as I told myself, you know, it's been a, it's been a year since I've really been talking a little more that I've been talking about this with the audience. And that at the time, I was like, okay, I want to get. this thing going on because we're supposed to launch more than a year because I wanted to launch this

this time last year but and you got it it was antsy and not antsy at the same time right like we we had gotten to it was it was the best thing possible that we landed where we landed because well we wouldn't have had Craig um if we would have launched last year um I don't even know if Craig had launched his Kickstarter yet and had any experience inside of the Kickstarter stuff he he was he was heaven sent by the way um so did you get to Greg attack Peter. So, and yeah, so that's, that's where, and obviously, and we still, we have a few more like announcements and things that hopefully maybe with, with stretch goals. Look at 200,000, 268 right now.

We have more stretch goals on other announcements that we can potentially make. And one of the things, now I don't know if this is true or not true, but one of the things for people to consider if they're, if they still want, you know, want to help us get to that boardwalk picture's goal is the idea of now that we have fun, now, now we're fully funded. Now we can tell people, you know, cast or whatever it might be, hey, we're fully funded. And this is what we hope to do. This is the floor. Yeah, right.

And we did it in seven days. So, yeah. I do feel like maybe reconvening for marketing strategy now that you are fully funded. Like what does this back half look like? Yeah, it's true. And we have so many stories and we haven't gotten to because obviously the pretty historic moment on this show. So what I want to do is I'm going to and it's me and you. I know. It's pretty awesome. I'm going to tell you guys about Square and then I'm going to tell you about Cash App and then we'll

And I think I said this last time I was on, but, um, people tend to keep things in the dream state. It's, it feels impossible to take something from, uh, an idea and put it in motion because there's a vulnerability to that and you can fail.

And if with Kickstarter, you can literally fail publicly and have like the number like your self-worth is tracked through a dollar amount. So it's not for the faint of heart. And like Christian, I know like that first couple of days, like it is taxing and it's exhausting, right? Yeah. Right? Yeah. So. Yeah. Yeah. Well, we've been, we've been, you and I've been going back and forth on it. Craig is like, you know, he's been through this before. So he knows how to kind of talk me off the ledge on certain things. Um, but he's also like, look, where you're in a very good spot right now that where you got in those. I think that the main thing that I wanted to do.

And I think that one of the reasons I wanted to make sure that we got it, at least by today, when we extended that goal is because I really wanted the people who banded around to see the Shmoh down side of it come, bring it back and officially say that we brought it back and do it inside of the goal too. I would have stretched out a little bit longer. Sure. And done something. But the fact that we did it in the seven days after we pushed back the, the first one,

when you sent out the update and we did it, that's an accomplishment all itself. But what it does now is we know we're doing. doing shmodown and we know that Derek's probably going to be involved in uh, Derek, man is going to be involved in the schmodown stuff too. Um, so we can put that to the side now, you know, and we can say when it's time, we're bringing, you know, we're going to really push everything forward with the schmodown and the tournament and the live event that follows it. And we know that that's part of it now. We know that's reality. Now we can just go full steam ahead, make sure that it's like, all right, now what we want to do is go after all those stretch goals, we want to make sure that we can

Because you can kind of like, before we started the whole thing, I told Christian, I was like, this is how it's going to go. Day one is going to be incredible. Day two is going to be like half as many backers. Day three, you're going to worry that you're not going to fund.

And it, like clockwork, Kickstarter just has it's been going on for so long and there's so much data you can kind of see the trend by the way trending the best name for the show it was debated for a long time was it yeah that's such a good name

that was the name that was the name that we settled on when it was the one I will say I was the pain in the ass in the title change right because they kept you have issues with one word titles you've had issues with one Well, I had, excommunication was the original title, right? But then Mark was the one who, who, excommunication.

Because it was like, because they're exes, communication, but people thought it was religion wise. And I said, it can be changed. Well, what's the, what's the title then? And then there were a lot of titles that were thrown out there. I'm like, no, no, no, no. And like, that sounds like, and then I can't remember who suggested it on one of our calls, but this trending.

And I was like, that's it. I mean, when I heard it, I said, that's it. You just know it when you hear it. Yeah. When I heard it, I said that's, yeah. It's really good. Yeah. So other question for you, Craig. Yeah. Because we were talking about dreamers and people who are, look at that. Look at that. We might be a 201 by the end of this show. We might. People who are dreamers and a little bit delusional and other people that he had gone to to see if they were right for the Kickstarter or whatever it is. Did you believe everything that you said at first or like, are you a little bit delusional or what, What was your, like, is any part of this surprise you? No. I'm definitely a lot, a bit delusional about a lot of things. But I also think that's kind of like, I'm just like a guy, you know, I have had no connection

to the entertainment industry. I just live in Atlanta and just was in tech and like started podcasting 10 years ago. And like any opportunities that have come to our team, you know, I podcast with my wife and my best friend. And through that, we've had, you know, all these incredible. experiences and we've grown our own community. One thing I've learned, and this kind of is why I wanted to get involved with this project so much is the thing that people don't realize is that an engaged community is an engaged community. If you've got 10,000 subscribers, but seven or eight thousand of them are people who you might know by their name on the on the YouTube, like that means a lot more than somebody who.

has two million subscribers, but they're complete strangers. It's community. It's community. It's the community. And by the way, I was familiar with Schmow Down and Christian. And I feel like, we haven't even talked about it. So I have a Ghostbusters podcast. You do.

Talk about that. But way back in the day, I think it was Schmo's nose, like, broke some Ghostbusters three news in like 2012. And I was like, I got to start paying attention. This will pay off at some point in 15. was it 15 years later, 20 years? I know, there you go. I knew Christians community, I could just tell by the daily live streams,

if you've got 8,900 people watching every day, and the chat is on fire. I was like, this is a community that is invested in Christian. And all the other parts of it, having Boardwalk and Andrew freed, and all of that, that gave it so much legitimacy. but this campaign lives and dies with Christian's audience. It just does. And I would have been hesitant to get involved with something that I didn't think.

I would have never told Christian, hey, I think this has a real chance if I didn't believe it. But having said that, you do have to be a little bit like, you know, there are no guarantees, right? So when we did like 80 or 90,000 in the first hour, like, I was blown away by that. You know, it was funny. I was just telling Rock to it, you know, because I told you that we were, I had talked to people about running the campaigns before I had Peter had hooked this up and everything.

And and and and I mentioned this to Roxy earlier. This is nothing against these people, but they were going through analytics. You're the, all the people I spoke to and I spoke to a few. You were the only one that really set up top. We have with your community, this is, this is doable. And it's doable because when you, you told me what you accomplished with the, and we talked about the subscriber base that you had and what you accomplished. And I said, well, this is somebody who obviously relied and talked to. his community in order to do that.

So I speak in the same language. And I think that's why we worked together pretty well. Craig, I missed that conversation. What is your community? What did you accomplish that made you feel confident with this? So I'm in the toy action figure collectible space. So earlier this year, we started a company. We launched our own line of action figures.

It's our own IP. It's called cryptoids. And we were really. really successful on Kickstarter. And a lot of it was because of our community, but also like the idea resonated with people. Like in this, in our, in this space.

It was a toy that you were launching or the company. Yeah. Well, it's kind of all hand in hand. So like basically we, we took all of this like traditional folklore, like in cryptids like Bigfoot and Mothman and all that kind of stuff. And we kind of like something like what Christian, like no TV show.

Completely different. Like could not be more different from the from like what the actual project is. But the similarity is we have an invested audience and also like the pitch of trending is capturing that anybody like everybody watches TV. Right. Most people are watching like the average person watching Christians show probably watches severance and watch. I think the average person watches seven shows a year. I think that's the stat. Is that it?

Okay. So it's like there's, whether it's like shrinking or the bear or any of these shows, like people know, like people understand like prestige, well-written comedy these days. But to say like we're going to do this based on like the community, but also we're going to like revolutionize the way like TV's made.

And because people are sick of like slop in general. Like people are sick of, you know, every time a new streaming service, throws out a new movie or a new TV show. It's like sometimes they're great, but a lot of times you're like, who is this for?

Like who, how did this happen? You know, I have that question a lot. Look at that. And you're tapping into something that's captioned. You continuously just saying, look at that.

Look at that. Amazing. Every time the numbers go up, look at that. We're getting close to, uh, to 201. Add that to the campaign.

But to finish that thought because I'm long-rated. No, no, you're good. Look at that. Um, it's, uh, it's, you're capturing the imagination of like, what if this YouTube show that you watch every single day? Like, what if a year from now you put on Apple TV and this TV show existed and you got to tell your friends how I helped make this happen? Without me, without, without, without, saying someone else in the audience, that maybe they didn't get there. Maybe they wouldn't have got there. Maybe they wouldn't have done it. But like, I'm part of it. But I mean, but I, but there's somebody here that wants to. say hello to Craig.

And also Kickstarter when Kickstarter launched it was very product based like people were launching like gadgets and inventions right It's only in recent years that it's pivoted towards you know Film and TV and that kind of stuff so this is a There's a reason Kickstarter's paying closer to like within two days of launching the page Kickstarter was reaching out And like we were selected for projects we love and the culture fund and all this stuff. It's because there's something that you can just see it. You see it on the page. You see it in the trailer.

Like it's a special project and you should be very proud. Just a couple more things for Craig. Craig, what are the popular things right now? Like what is it that you're seeing? What is the trend, pun intended for what people are wanting on the Kickstarter? You know, so for ours in particular, yeah, yeah, yeah, for specifically for the trending Kickstarter. I'm just curious because I can't access that information.

So I'm wondering what's selling like hotcakes, what is like, you know, some things only have limited seats that you guys are offering. There's a really good spread amongst like none of the, none of the tiers are like, okay, people just don't want this stuff. Like the vast majority like I think our. That's cool. That means you guys picked really well then. Yeah. I was happy with that. But the vast majority of the backers are at that $25 and $50.

It's, it's, you know, you're always going to, yeah, you're always going to have the people who put in the 5k or the 10K and they get to get a really hands-on experience, get, you know, executive producer and associate producer and all that. But it's the, it's the small contributions that add up. Yeah. That, that make it so successful. Well, we said it, listen, we said from the beginning, you know, that the initial goal is with the 200 and almost 34,000 subscribers that we had that we initially said it was like 13,000 people, put in 25 bucks, we get to that boardwalk pictures goal. And then we started saying, well, if X amount put in 25 bucks, we get to the 200. Well, now it's just, now it's just the boardwalk pictures goal.

So we'll have to come up with that. Matt Pieldy is not here. So we have to figure out how many people it will now take to do that goal. And I think it's something like, I don't, I have to look, maybe like 4,000 people, 5,000 people, maybe less, maybe less. People can tell me in the, it's less than it was. It's way less than it. It's not 13,000 anymore. It's not 13,000 anymore. And the other thing, and Christian and Craig, maybe you guys can tackle this question together.

So I know for stretch goals, like sometimes new tiers are unlocked or different things are announced. Do you guys have things that you are potentially thinking of adding for people? Oh, yeah. Yeah, it's an ongoing discussion. We're definitely going to have to announce what the $300,000 stretch goal is. Yes. we, you know, we'll probably have that information a little bit later this week. But we're all, like, part of it is like, we're constantly getting feedback from people on like what, like the shoes did amazing, right?

we're going to fund the whole first season great um so So let's say we were able to do that. We pitched it out, whatever it was. And to me, it would be like, okay, who understands when you're sitting down with them, the creative vision of what we want to do, who understands the tone, who understands what we really want to do it, who understands the community, who understands it the most? It's not about, to me, it really isn't, and I don't care if people believe it or not, it has nothing to do with the money side of it.

Can I tell you who I think this is going to end up with? Yeah. I think this is a Hulu show. Okay. I think that for several different. reasons. Because of Saturday Night Live? I think it's because, number one, they take a lot, they take more risks and especially on like properties like this as opposed to, so you see something like Apple, which is celebrity-driven content

But there's been a lot of shows that have been watching on Hulu where it's like these fucking sleeper hits where you're like, wait, who is this cat? Where do they come from? How did it take them this long to get in front of my eyes? Yeah. And like it kind of does remind me like when I think FX Hulu or FXX what it was with always sunny or just kind of like that that offbeat tone. That's where I think this is going to end up. Wow. I don't know because what I said in my out of the theater reaction was, that you start this movie and it's not and there's a certain thing that happens that it's not the movie that they sell you in the trailers it's completely different and what roca said which i agree you're either

in you're out and for a long time that choice distracted me because my investment was different than it was from the start of the movie but by the time i got to the end of the movie i was like I think I like this now, but then it was over. And I'm like, shit, did I like it or did I not like it? Because there's one point, I'm like, what the hell am I watching? Am I connected to this? I'm not connected to this? I don't understand.

And then by the time I got to the end of it, I was like, I think I was really locked in at the end there. What happened? I think the performances are great. I think Riz Ahmed is incredible. Steals the movie for me as much as I love Tom Cruise. And I think he was incredible. John Goodman, there's a lot of great performances.

Riz Ahmed. Yeah. Riz Ahmed is top tier. Yeah. Yeah. So I don't know. I don't know. I don't know if it's one of those movies that if I watch it again, I appreciate it more.

But I just, it is almost like, well, poor things I had a different relationship with. Poor things I hated the first 10 minutes. And then I locked in and I loved it. It was one of my favorite movies of the year. This movie I was watching, it was just like, I, because it's so hard to not spoil it. But I was watching and I'm going, but I don't, not really invested in this right now because of this. Choices. Yeah, because of the choices.

I'm so with you. I think I air on the side that I think this was very cool and I like the swings that they took. I'm just grateful to watch a movie that does take big swings. And I think that the best thing you can do is not walk out of this movie. I picture a lot of people. I almost, I thought about it.

I thought about it. And I never walked out of movies. I thought about it and I'm glad I didn't. You can't decide if you like this movie or not until the credits are rolling. It's so true. And the one thing I will say, though, first, well, I'll give a positive and a negative.

The positive is that it's beautiful. It's shot beautiful. Should be nominated for an Oscar. 100% and the music is wonderful as well. In a Ritu, which people give me shit about saying his name, humor is not his forte. There's a lot of jokes that you could see where it was going and just, it's like it just didn't, it didn't be, it was more awkward and weird than it was funny.

Exactly. Exactly. Yes, she did. It is just so, so beyond. She had Brandon Rogers on. Okay. Great. Like, just like you, dream vision. Like push the boulder up the hill as hard as she fucking could. And just everybody responded to it. So, yeah, I love this kind of thing. I'm hugely excited.

Nathan Drake, Roker thinks Cruz is better in this than Damon and Odyssey. do you think of this movie bombs and it is divisive? Will he be nominated? Well, I don't think it's going to do very well monetarily. I don't know who the movie is for as far as mainstream. What was the budget? I don't know, but this movie is made for awards. But the difference between this and like one battle after another is I think that that has enough mainstream crossover of one battle.

I don't think this does. I don't think a lot of people are going to the mainstream audience. I don't think going to appreciate the big swings. Wait, what's making you talk about one battle? right now. Well, because one battle after another was it was a, it didn't make money, it lost money, but it, but it, but it, but it won all these awards. And that was the intent of that movie. It, it, it didn't like lose it, it, it, I don't

know, no, the budget was ridiculous, like 170 or something crazy. But it was, there's no world it was going to make. So the bigger budget 125. That's, that's, that's a big number for this movie. It's a big number. Um, it, I would say, and you tell me if you think this or not, I am not able to give my, critique my opinion on Tom Cruise's performance in this movie without spoiling the movie. Like, I'm having a hard time talking about. I think there's a way to do it.

And I think the way you do it is that his investment in this role, he never, and he never gives less than a thousand percent. Yeah. He's, he's invested in it. Whatever he needs you to believe he is doing in this movie, he does. it. He accomplishes that. I agree. Yeah. So it's hard to compare

Yeah. And I was like, give me the chance to win the campaign's over and I'm going to because I want to dive into it. I'm dying. I'm dying to like so he's super talented. But the idea that's what Screwface is mentioning here is that it's very hard for me as far as I want to get and promote another podcast because it was a community that did this. So I put a fair amount of money into this to make sure.

Also, what does doing a 10-hour live stream count as financially? Right. Oh, like this week on the show count about. What does preparing, what does writing the script? Yeah. How much money do you put into it? What is your time? I disabled.
