Welcome to the Level Up Podcast.
I'm your host, Paul Alex.
I went from being a cop to an eight-figure entrepreneur
that helps average people like you and me
make money every single day.
I created this podcast to help you get motivated
and to crush your goals.
Let's win together.
Remember, I have your six.
Get ready to level up right now.
How many of you guys have a toxic family?
I'm talking about the family that doesn't allow you to focus,
the family that doesn't believe in what you are actually doing in life.
And sometimes, every time you talk to them, they just bring you down.
We're going to talk about how to balance family dynamics with being an entrepreneur
and how to handle your responsibilities as well.
Now, this is crucial for your well-being and success in life.
Family is supposed to be a source of support,
but sometimes certain family members can be toxic.
You know who we're talking about.
So their negativity, their criticism, or lack of support
can impact your mental health and business.
It's essential to navigate these relationships carefully
to maintain your focus and peace of mind while you're working. The first step is to set boundaries. This is
clearly something that I had to do guys when I first started with a couple of my first businesses.
I had to tell family members that I am busy. I got to handle business. I love them but I'm
going to love them from afar. You got to clearly define what behavior you will and won't tolerate.
This might mean limiting the time you spend with toxic family members or avoiding certain
topics of conversation.
Boundaries protect your mental space and allow you to focus on your business without unnecessary
stress.
Look, I'm a big communicator, guys.
So I am going to give you this advice and tell you that communication is key.
You got to address the issues directly with that specific toxic family member, but calmly.
All right.
Verbal judo.
Express how their behavior affects you and your work.
Use I statements to avoid sounding like you're accusing them, such as I feel stressed out when or I need support with.
This approach can help you reduce defensiveness and open up to a more constructive dialogue with that toxic family member.
You got to play the game, guys. You got to know how to talk to people.
Look, sometimes despite your best efforts, communications and boundaries aren't enough. In such cases, it's important to accept that you might need to, mentors that you look up to,
colleagues that you look up to, who can uplift and support you. Look, no one said running a
successful business is easy, but it could be simple if you know what you're doing. So running
a successful business requires a clear mind and focused energy. You got to incorporate self-care
practices into your routine to
counterbalance the negativity. Regular exercise, meditation and hobbies is what helped me manage
stress and maintain a positive outlook. Even when I was in a toxic police environment back in my
nine to five for seven years, even when I was in toxic corporate America, I still focus on what can help me maintain this stress, guys. The best
performers, the one percenters, they know exactly what I'm talking about. A healthy body and mind
are vital for success. And then lastly, this is a big, big subject to me, fulfillment. Fulfillment
is everything, guys. Success in business isn't just about financial achievements. It's also about personal satisfaction and happiness.
You gotta be happy with what you're doing.
You gotta be passionate about what you're doing.
So pursue passions that bring you joy
and align with your values.
When your work resonates
with your personal belief and interest,
it becomes more fulfilling.
Look, you keep your business goals
aligned with your personal life goals. Balance is crucial. But as you guys know, you got to allocate time for family, friends and relaxation. This balance prevents burnt out, keeps you motivated. And you got to remember, a fulfilled entrepreneur is a more effective leader's going to allow you to lead by example.
And then lastly, not a lot of people like to talk about this, but I'm going to bring it up anyways.
Seek professional help if needed.
Therapy or even coaching can provide strategies to cope with toxic family dynamics and offer support as you navigate through these challenges.
Professional guidance can be invaluable in maintaining your mental health and achieving your goals. Handling toxic family members when running a successful business is challenging, guys, but I did it, okay? I'm an average dude. At the end of the day,
if I could do it, any of you guys could do this. So you got to set boundaries. You got to
communicate effectively. You got to focus on you, okay? It's you versus you.
Focus on self-care and seek positive influences.
Stop listening to the news.
Stop listening to all this bullshit on Netflix and all that.
Focus on positivity, self-education,
on what's going to help you level up, guys, okay? Balance your business pursuits with personal fulfillment
to create a successful life.
You got to protect your mental
space and pursue your passions with determination and joy. Your success and happiness depends on it.
So as I always say, guys, you guys got to stay strong. You got to stay balanced. And as always,
let's level up. Remember, I always have your six. Make sure to share this episode with your family,
