Welcome to the Level Up Podcast.
I'm your host, Paul Alex.
I went from being a cop to an eight-figure entrepreneur
that helps average people like you and me
make money every single day.
I created this podcast to help you get motivated
and to crush your goals.
Let's win together.
Remember, I have your six.
Get ready to level up right now.
Today, let's explore how you could get over
being a perfectionist and the importance of
taking imperfect action to actually anything in life. So let's get started, guys. Being a
perfectionist can be a major roadblock. It's actually the belief that everything must be
perfect before you take action. While striving for excellence is commendable, perfectionists
often lead to procrastination and missed opportunities.
As someone who transitioned from being a cop to a successful entrepreneur, well, you could say
decent success. I learned that taking imperfect action is crucial for progression. So let's start
with the mindset shift and understand that perfection is an illusion. There is no perfect time. There's no perfect plan. There's no perfect execution.
Life is messy and unpredictable, guys. Waiting for everything to be perfect means you're going
to be waiting forever. Instead, what you need to do is you need to focus on progression and not
perfection. Each step forward, no matter how small or imperfect, is going to be a step
towards your goal. One of the most powerful lessons I've learned in law enforcement is that
you must act decisively, okay? Look, even when you don't have all the information, you just get it
done. The same principle applies to business and life. When I first started in my entrepreneurship journey, I had to make quick decisions and
adapt on the fly.
I had to wait for, I couldn't wait for the perfect plan.
I would have missed countless opportunities.
Taking imperfect action is about embracing the process of learning and growing.
When you start something new, you're going to make mistakes, okay?
It's going to happen.
It happens to everybody.
But each mistake is a learning opportunity.
It's through experiences that you gain the knowledge
and skills necessary for success.
Think of it like this.
This is the cycle, okay?
Act, learn, adjust, and improve.
This is the cycle that is far more effective
than waiting to get everything right on the first time.
OK, being a perfectionist is often driven by fear, fear of failure, fear of judgment, fear of not being good enough to overcome this.
You need to reframe failure as a part of the journey.
Every successful person has a history of failure behind them.
These failures are often,
they are not setbacks. They are stepping stones. They provide valuable lessons that contribute to
your growth and success. So let's talk about some practical steps to overcome being a perfectionist.
First, you need to set realistic goals. Break down your bigger goals into smaller ones,
manageable tasks. This makes it easier to start reducing the pressure to be perfect.
Second, set deadlines.
Deadlines create a sense of urgency and push you to take action even if things are not perfect.
Next, set and practice self-compassion.
You got to be kind to yourself when things don't go as planned.
Acknowledge your effort and recognize that imperfection and recognize that
not being perfect is part of the process. Surround yourself with supportive people who encourage you
to take action and remind you that it's okay to make mistakes. Another technique that I love is
to embrace the concept of good enough. Sometimes good enough is all you need to move forward.
Aim for excellence. Don't let the pursuit of perfection paralyze you.
Remember, done is better than perfect.
Finally, you have to celebrate your progression.
Every step you take, no matter how imperfect it is,
is a victory.
Recognize your achievements, no matter how small.
This positive reinforcement builds momentum
and keeps you motivated.
Getting over being a perfectionist is about changing your mindset and embracing imperfect
action.
You've got to understand that being a perfectionist is an illusion that all these people made
up, guys.
Take decisive action.
Learn from your mistakes.
Keep moving forward.
Progress, not perfection, is the key to achieving your goals, reminding you to level up and embrace
being not a perfectionist, but actually progressing.
Let's level up.
