Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to the Level Up Podcast. I'm your host, Paul Alex. I went from being a cop to an eight-figure entrepreneur that helps average people like you and me make money every single day. I created this podcast to help you get motivated and to crush your goals. Let's win together.
Starting point is 00:00:16 Remember, I have your six. Get ready to level up right now. All right, guys, so for this one, let's go ahead and talk about having the right people in your corner while you're leveling up or trying to succeed in either entrepreneurship, trying to level up in your career or just in life. You're just trying to be a happy person. Okay. So story time, guys. I used to work in sales, corporate America, and in law enforcement, both different toxic environments. And let me break it down.
Starting point is 00:00:47 In sales, it's cutthroat, guys. If you're the best, for some people, they're going to have to step on some toes. They're going to have to burn some bridges to be number one. In law enforcement, it was just straight high school, guys. You know, in law enforcement, very prideful, very, very, very prideful folks. But there are good people as well that work in law enforcement, just like any other industry, right? But what comes with that is a lot of first responders, they deal with a lot of stress,
Starting point is 00:01:15 okay? So they have to decompress. And how do they decompress? Well, some of my coworkers, they used to just talk negative about the actual career. They used to talk negative just about just everything in general. And I'm going to tell you something. Your environment is everything, guys. As you get older, you're going to realize that no one cares if you succeed or not.
Starting point is 00:01:39 Okay? Let me repeat that again. As you get older, you're going to realize that no one cares whether you succeed or not. Okay. So what I would recommend, okay. And what personally has worked for me is I've always just had a handful of friends that I know I can rely on, that I hang around with, that I know I could communicate my ideas, my visions. If we're not talking about business, if we're not talking about financial freedom,
Starting point is 00:02:09 if we ain't talking about leveling up, more than likely, I'm not going to be friends with you because there's no value. So you have to understand this. You have to find the right people to level up with you. And that's going to be people that want more in life, especially if you're an entrepreneur, especially if you're listening to this. You want to surround yourself with the best people that are going to make you the best version of yourself, guys. If you are the richest person in your circle, it doesn't mean you have to get rid of them, okay?
Starting point is 00:02:38 You can still be friends with that circle, but what I would recommend, and this is what's helped me tremendously throughout my past seven years of being an entrepreneur, is actually getting into new rooms, meeting new people. And this is a key takeaway for this episode, guys. Your network is your net worth. So make friends that actually make you uncomfortable because they're either so rich, they're so smart, or they're at a different level than you are and you're actually uncomfortable. Yeah, that's the best feeling because once you get uncomfortable, guess what? The batteries are going to come back on and you're going to want to go ahead and level up
Starting point is 00:03:19 because if your friend is at a way higher level than you, then you have to think to yourself, what am I doing wrong that my friend is doing right? And that's the way you got to analyze life. There's no one special here in this earth. It's either you're going to take the discipline, you're going to take the hard work, and you're going to execute. And you have to remember,
Starting point is 00:03:41 you have to give up your old life for your new life. And if you take it from me, take it from my experience, I had to reduce the amount of time I worked in overtime. I had to reduce my salary of making $250,000 as a detective in law enforcement to take a chance and invest in one of my businesses. But that business took off. It made me financially free. And once it made me financially free, I doubled down on my vision. I hope this helps, guys. I'll catch you guys on the next one. Remember, I always have your six.
