Welcome to the Level Up Podcast.
I'm your host, Paul Alex.
I went from being a cop to an eight-figure entrepreneur
that helps average people like you and me
make money every single day.
I created this podcast to help you get motivated
and to crush your goals.
Let's win together.
Remember, I have your six.
Get ready to level up right now.
All right, so today we're gonna be exploring
a vital skill for thriving in any nine-to-five job or business venture,
focusing your brain for peak productivity.
Drawn from my experiences in law enforcement and entrepreneurship,
guys, I'm going to share a few techniques that have dramatically increased my productivity.
So if you're having a problem being productive, time management, or focusing, this is for you.
Now, whether you're navigating through the structured demands of a nine to five or the dynamic challenges of running a business, the ability to focus is a game changer.
In my early days as a detective, staying focused was not just about productivity.
It was crucial for solving cases and staying safe, actually. Later, as an
entrepreneur, Focus helped me build businesses from the ground up. Every single business that
I've had, guys, has been bootstrapped, meaning that I've taken my savings, my blood money,
like many of you, and have invested on a chance to become rich. So if you guys follow these tips, you have a better chance
of actually leveraging your money to make it work for you. First, let's talk about environment.
Your physical and digital environments play a huge role in your ability to focus.
In law enforcement, I remember when I used to have a ton of different coworkers in the same office space.
Man, there used to be one detective specifically, and I'm not going to name no names, I love them all,
that would have papers to the ceiling, guys.
I mean, it was just controlled chaos.
And with me, I cannot focus like that. A cluttered
workspace could mean missed details. So I learned to keep my space organized. This practice carried
over to my businesses. Keeping your physical workspace decluttered and your digital spaces
streamlined, it's going to change the game for you. Attention to detail at all times.
Close unnecessary tabs on your computer.
Organize your files, whether you have old school paper files or digital files,
and maintain a tidy desk.
It's going to make you more effective in life and in business.
You're going to know exactly where everything is at, and it's going to cause less stress
when it's time to go ahead and get the work done.
Next, guys, how do you go ahead and manage priorities?
So in both law enforcement and business,
knowing what needs your attention and when is crucial.
Start your day by identifying the top three tasks that will make the biggest
impact for your personal life or in your business. I actually learned this in law enforcement in my
first year or two. The reason why this was crucial is because back when I was working on the beat
and I would get a call for service, there would be certain situations which required
me to go ahead and make a decision to go to that call versus the call that has been waiting for an
hour. Okay. I'm going to give you a great example. There could have been a burglary where the suspect wasn't there anymore. And that means that it's just a report. Now,
let's say there was a shooting, a shooting that just occurred a minute ago, and you're probably
a mile away. Well, you have to make the decision as a leader to go ahead and decide which one is
more urgent and takes a priority. So this is what I learned in law enforcement.
You go ahead and you take care of what is most important based on the details.
Okay.
So if in business you are suffering from going ahead and actually generating revenue, what does that mean?
What should you guys
have as a priority on a daily basis? That means that you guys should be focusing on client
acquisition and sales. And that's it, right? Now, let's say that you're good at client acquisition
and sales, meaning that you're able to get leads and you're able to close them. But you have an
issue with fulfillment. Well, guess what?
I'm going to focus on making sure that the fulfillment and the processes is on point
before I go back to actually obtaining more leads and closing more business.
Now, use the eat that frog method. Do the most challenging task first. This not only provides a sense of achievement early on,
but also improves your focus for the rest of the day.
And how many of you take breaks during work?
Yes, breaks are essential for maintaining focus.
During intense investigations that I used to do back in the day,
short breaks away from my desk allow me to return with a fresh perspective. There's a very
simple technique which involves working for 25 minutes followed by a five-minute break. And it
can be incredibly effective. These breaks reduce mental fatigueness and boost concentration.
And actually, for a lot of you guys that I have ADD or ADHD that cannot focus.
This will help you tremendously. Trust me, guys. I used to have to drink almost a thousand
milligrams of caffeine to focus. At the end of the day, that's not sustainable. So I get where
you guys are coming from. If you guys are trying to focus, this is going to be for you.
Mindfulness and meditation also play significant roles.
In my transition from a detective to entrepreneur, I faced overwhelming stress every single day.
Incorporating mindfulness into my daily routine helped me manage stress and sharpen my focus.
Even a few minutes of meditation each day can calm your mind and enhance your concentration.
So for an example, guys, to break this down for you, I used to always remind myself of the ABCs.
Always be cool.
I would then take a deep breath, try to hold it for 10 seconds and breathe out. Guys, your stress levels will then decrease and you will be able to think
and concentrate again under a stressful situation. I've been in stressful situations where I've been
shot at. I've been trying to help somebody live after getting shot. I've been in car chases. I've
been in fights. And I always remember this when I'm ever in an elevated stress level.
Always be cool.
Lastly, leveraging technology wisely can boost your productivity.
Use tools like focus apps that limit distractions or time management software that keep you on track.
In both law enforcement and business, utilizing the right tools effectively freed up my mental space to focus on the task at hand.
I'm a big believer on these applications.
You can just go to your Apple marketplace or your app store on your guys' phone and you guys can put focus applications.
You guys will get dozens of them on there that will block off either your sound notifications.
It'll block
off certain things on social media. So you guys are able to focus as well. All right, guys. So
remember that improving focus is a skill and like any skill, it takes practice and persistence.
That means it's a perishable skill, right? You have to keep at it every single day.
So customizing these strategies I just told you about to fit your work style and your environment, whether you're solving a complex case like I was back in the day
or building a business empire like I'm currently doing right now, sharpening your focus will
elevate your productivity and success. And this is going to allow you to level up guys. So I'll
catch you on the next one. Remember, I always have your six. Make sure to share this episode
