Welcome to the Level Up Podcast.
I'm your host, Paul Alex.
I went from being a cop to an eight-figure entrepreneur
that helps average people like you and me
make money every single day.
I created this podcast to help you get motivated
and to crush your goals.
Let's win together.
Remember, I have your six.
Get ready to level up right now.
All right, guys, so let's talk about leveling up your career
no matter what niche or industry you're in, okay? I'm story time, guys. So let's talk about leveling up your career, no matter what niche or industry
you're in. Okay. I'm story time guys. Look, this is how I went from an average rookie to a detective
within a short two years in my law enforcement career. Okay. Now, first things first. And before
I even get started with the story, let's talk about limiting beliefs. Guys, if you don't believe
in yourself, you are doing yourself a disservice. Do not forget that sentence. If you do not believe
in yourself, you are doing yourself a disservice. Everything you do in life, there is no maybes.
There is no trying. There is no, well, what ifs? There's either a yes or a no.
It's going to happen or it's not going to happen.
Okay, let's get into the story.
Now, guys, when I got into Police Academy, it was one of the roughest six months I ever
experienced in my life, guys.
I went to Police Academy in Oakland, California.
Now, many of you guys may know Oakland, California as one of the most dangerous cities in America.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's crazy. It's like mini Iraq out there. But at the end of the day, there are people that live in that city. And, you know, I went into police work to help others, okay, to do what's right and to actually be the person that stands up to, you know, what, what, you know, the dangerous folks out there that want to harm other people
and they need to go to jail.
So those six months,
I've never been a militant person.
I never went to the military.
Guys, I came from corporate America.
I came from sales.
I was a nightclub promoter.
Come on.
When I became a cop,
everybody was just like,
dude, you, a cop?
Really?
I was like, yes,
because I needed a change in my life. I wanted fulfillment.
I wanted something different. And I'm happy that I actually went into law enforcement because it
showed me to be a leader. It showed me what type of man I am and what man and leader actually got
created after law enforcement. Because if it wasn't for law enforcement, guys, I wouldn't have been able, number one, to actually lead my companies, but also to be able to talk from
personal experience about everything that I talk about nowadays.
So when I was in academy, I was right in the middle of my academy class, guys.
And I'm talking about as far as performance.
I wasn't the best.
I wasn't the worst.
But what I can tell you is I stayed right in the middle because I'm talking about as far as performance, I wasn't the best, I wasn't the worst. But what I
can tell you is I stayed right in the middle because I'm an average guy. Okay. I wasn't trying
to show off. I wasn't trying to compete. I was just trying to make sure that I had my head in
the game, that I passed the probation period of being a rookie cop and that I passed academy and
then was able to become a full sworn
officer. And that's exactly what I did. So, you know, you always get a lot of naysayers and in
academy, in school, in workplace, it's always the same shit. I always like to call it high school.
Okay. People would always talk bad about you, even though they don't know you. And that's exactly
what happened. I had to shut off the naysayers. I had to shut off the people that were like, well, I don't think that
guy's going to be a great cop. Well, guys, after I got off of field training and once I became a
sworn officer, hey, boots to the ground. I was a very proactive cop, meaning that I would go and actually find the guys that were wanted for
murder, for shootings, for rapes, some of the most heinous crimes.
Because that's the type of police officer I was.
I was just like, dude, I'm going to make a difference.
And I know it sounds cliche.
I know it sounds like a movie.
But no, that's what I would tell myself.
I'm going to make a difference.
I'm going to take out the worst criminals out there.
I'm going to take them to jail.
They don't deserve to be on the street.
And that's what I did.
So I took the belief that I can do it even though I had haters, even though I had people
say like, dude, you're not going to be a good cop. And I was able to show what I was
made of within six months. Within those six months, I was getting accommodations. I was getting
captains already shoulder tapping me saying like, hey, we want you to come over to our special
investigation units. I was putting myself in those circles, those circles of great officers that will
mentor me.
I was putting myself in the rooms and uncomfortable situations where I knew I had to learn because
I wasn't the smartest person in there.
But I learned from the best.
And that's how you become the best, from getting mentors that know more than you,
that have the success that you want. And guys, I'm going to tell you something right now. Don't
forget this is the key takeaway for this episode. Clothes blouse don't get fed. So right now,
if you're not where you want to be at in your career, ask for it and it will come. Hope this
helps. Remember, I always have your six. Make sure to share this episode with your family,
