Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to the Level Up Podcast. I'm your host, Paul Alex. I went from being a cop to an eight-figure entrepreneur that helps average people like you and me make money every single day. I created this podcast to help you get motivated and to crush your goals. Let's win together.
Starting point is 00:00:16 Remember, I have your six. Get ready to level up right now. Let's talk about leadership and then also dealing with high stress situations. Look, I come from the law enforcement world where specifically I worked in the city of Oakland. The city of Oakland, as you guys know, and a lot of people reference that as a third world country, essentially. We were dealing with everything you could think about, robbery, shootings, murders, to just seeing the weirdest situations ever.
Starting point is 00:00:48 Okay. Now, what I've learned from being a police officer in that specific city for the past seven years, when I was a former detective, former cop, is that being cool, calm, collective, but then also leading by example is absolutely everything, especially in high stress situations. When there is chaos, people are always, especially when you're the police or you're a first responder, they're always looking at you for the answer. So even if you don't know, you got to know with the best intention forward. Okay. You got to make those critical decisions with a limited amount of time. And guess what? People are going to criticize you no matter what. The same thing transitions
Starting point is 00:01:31 into corporate America, guys. I've been in situations where my sales team during our monthly sales team meetings, they'll go ahead and it'll be like, well, boss, you know, we're getting shitty leads from the marketing team. And I'm like, but wait a minute, we haven't changed anything in the marketing since you guys have all started. And they're like, well, they're making a million excuses why they can't close the deals. Well, this is where I lead by example. And let's say that you are used to making half a million, a million, $2 million a month from your businesses,
Starting point is 00:02:06 guys. And this month you're in a shitty situation where you're like, oh my God, we are extremely low in sales. What are you to do as a CEO, as a founder, as an executive, whatever you are, okay? Supervisor, you lead by example. So this is what I've taught my executives, get in the trenches and show them who the best person is. And that's what we're good at here at my companies, at my organizations. We lead by example. If our guys are saying marketing is shit and we're getting shitty leads because of that reason, I'm going to go ahead and test those leads. Hey, they better be sorry if I come back after 10 sales calls and my closing ratio is at 80% and they haven't closed shit all week, okay? Because now they don't have an excuse if the boss is closing the deals. It's the same thing that goes with every situation. No matter how stressful it is,
Starting point is 00:03:06 you have to take command as a leader and lead by example. The transition from law enforcement to business is the exact same thing. You're going to get criticized. You're going to have to make decisions in a snap. In business, things go very fast and you have to transition no matter what happens, whether that's a customer service complaint or whether you're not closing deals or whether your marketing is shit, you have to make decisions very quickly and also spring into action when your team needs a leader to go ahead and lead the pack. Hope this helps. Remember, I always have your six. Make sure to share this episode with your family, friends, and anyone you care about.
