Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to the Level Up Podcast. I'm your host, Paul Alex. I went from being a cop to an eight-figure entrepreneur that helps average people like you and me make money every single day. I created this podcast to help you get motivated and to crush your goals. Let's win together.
Starting point is 00:00:16 Remember, I have your six. Get ready to level up right now. Today, we're tackling a topic that resonates with me, tremendously and with anyone aiming to make a significant change or chase a big dream. Stopping the self-doubt and going after what you really want in life. journey from law enforcement in Oakland, California, working as a detective to finding and running multiple successes business into the millions. I've learned that self-doubt can be the biggest barrier to success, but overcoming it isn't just possible. It's essential if you want to finally realize your full potential. First, let's talk about understanding your why. This is about
Starting point is 00:01:06 getting clear on what drives you. For me, it was about creating something of my own, something that would not only generate wealth, but also help others along the way. Knowing your why provides the motivation that keeps you moving forward, even when doubt creeps in. So let's get a little bit deep into my story real quick. In the very humble beginnings, when I first started my first side hustle, while I was still in law enforcement, guys, I was working anywhere between 60 to 80 hour work weeks, all right?
Starting point is 00:01:37 And I did this for five plus years. Yeah, you're probably wondering, well, how did you get any sleep? Well, I had a big why. My why was my family. I wanted to retire my mom. I wanted to retire my parents. I wanted to make sure that they were good because they helped me and they raised me ever since I was a kid. So at the end of the day, I have to pay it forward. I have to take care of my siblings. I have to take care of everybody around my circle. That's just the type of person that I am. So your why is what really is going to push you. It's going to get you up in the
Starting point is 00:02:11 mornings, those early mornings where you feel like you want to sleep an extra hour or two, but instead, you know, you got to work on your business. And that's how it was for me. I want to get those extra hours of sleep in guys, but I'm telling you something right now. Just me remembering why I'm doing this ignited the fuel, the fire inside of me to go ahead and get up in those early mornings before my shift and go and start my business. Next, embrace the power of small wins. When I first started with my first business in the ATM industry, every successful installation, every new client felt like a huge victory. Celebrating these small wins build my confidence over time, and it also silenced the inner critiques that says you can't do it. So, short story on this is when I initially started with my first couple of ATMs, I had everybody against me. And look, I'm not talking bad about them.
Starting point is 00:03:10 I love my people. And I'm talking about I love my family. I love my friends. I love my coworkers. They're all good people. But they are comfortable with where they're at. And they were comfortable during the time I was trying to build something better for myself. I remember my mom telling me, Paul, you're already a successful detective. You already have a million dollar house in one of the best neighborhoods in San Francisco Bay Area.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Why are you going to give all this up for a silly dream? My ex, same thing. ATMs, that's so weird. Why are you going to go do that? That's so silly. You're a cop. You're a detective. You're going to be a sergeant. You're going to be a commander one day. My sisters, oh, well, you know, you've always gone and tried to, you know, do these businesses.
Starting point is 00:04:00 And I don't know. Well, we'll see. We'll see how it happens. Doubt, guys. Doubt guys, doubt. And when you start hearing enough doubt, you yourself, you start believing it. But one thing that you have to remember, no one's going to see the vision that you see. That's why it's very important to go ahead and actually tell yourself good job with every single step that you take. It's going to help you build your confidence over
Starting point is 00:04:25 time when you're building your business. It's also crucial to educate yourself continuously. Doubt often stems from fear of the unknown, just like life, right? People do not do what they do not know. But consistently learning whether about new technologies, the market trends, or management techniques, you'll not only improve your skills, but you'll also boost your competence. Knowledge is power. I know it sounds cliche, but the more you know, the less room there is for doubt. Remember, you have to learn before you earn. Another strategy is to surround yourself with supporters. And I get this all the time. Paul, well, I don't have friends. I don't have family members that, you know, are into business or
Starting point is 00:05:16 entrepreneurship, or they don't want to talk about this. Guys, I'm going to tell you something right now. The online space has dramatically changed. You guys can find a community of like-minded individuals like yourself no matter what you want to do. Whether you want to go ahead and be a streamer, there's an entire community for streamers. Whether you want to go ahead and learn how to play pickleball, there's an entire community that can teach you how to play pickleball. Whether you want to learn how to dance salsa, there's dance classes that you could take with like-minded individuals that want to learn how to dance salsa. So there is no excuse. Go ahead and find your community so they can help you level up. And this doesn't just mean people who cheer you on, but those who challenge you constructively and believe in your capacity to succeed. During my transition from law enforcement to entrepreneurship,
Starting point is 00:06:11 I sought mentors and peers who not only supported my vision, but also provided honest feedback and guidance. Something that I really did was reflect on my past successes. This is about reminding yourself that you faced challenges before and you have conquered every single one of them. Remember, you're the boss. You're the leader. It's your world. Each success, no matter how small, is proof that you can achieve great things. When doubt tells you that you can't, let your track record see that you can.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Guys, back when I was in law enforcement, back when I was in corporate America, guys, closed mouths don't get fed, and trust me, I was in law enforcement, back when I was in corporate America, guys, closed mouths don't get fed. And trust me, I was not scared to speak up. I was not scared to go ahead and speak my mind. And the reason why is because I back it up. And if you can back it up, then you can go ahead and say that with confidence.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Last, taking action, even if it's imperfect. Action is the antidote to doubt. Each step forward, even if small, is progression. It's easy to get caught in the trap of waiting for the perfect moment or the perfect plan. I'm telling you something right now. Perfectionists do not make it in entrepreneurship. You have to take imperfect action. Not everything is going to go to how you like it.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Not everything is going to be the perfect timing. it. Not everything's going to be the perfect timing. No, you just do it and get it done. However, momentum builds confidence and breaks down the barriers of doubt. So to wrap it up, if there's something you truly want in life, don't let self-doubt hold you back. Remember, the journey where you are to, where you want to be starts with a single step. Take that step, be bold, be persistent, and let your passion drive you forward. Let's level up guys.
