The Level Up Podcast w/ Paul Alex - The Dollar-Store Hour: Why Doing It Yourself is Costing You Millions
Episode Date: September 29, 2026Doing a task yourself does not make it free.Your time has a cost too.In this episode of The Level Up Podcast, Paul Alex breaks down why founders need to understand the opportunity cost of their hours ...and stop spending high-value time on work that can be delegated.Saving fifty dollars can become expensive if it costs you hours that could have been used to close a client, improve the offer, or solve a major business problem. The real question is not whether you can do the task.It is whether you should. In this episode, you’ll learn:• Why doing everything yourself can create hidden opportunity costs• How low-value tasks consume time that could be used for higher-impact work• Why delegation can become an investment instead of an expense• How protecting your calendar creates more room for growth and strategyThe truth is simple:Not every task deserves your time.Audit the calendar.Identify what only you can do.Delegate the rest when the economics make sense.Buying back an hour can be far more valuable than saving a few dollars.Protect your focus for the work that creates the greatest impact on the business.Value the hours.Delegate the noise.Operate like an owner.Your Network is your NETWORTH!Make sure to add me on all SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS:Instagram: https://jo.my/paulalex2024Facebook: https://jo.my/fbpaulalex2024YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGhDAD1JyGGzSQUPD9lc9HQLinkedIn: https://jo.my/inpaulalex2024Looking for a secondary source of income or want to become an entrepreneur? Welcome to the level up podcast.
I'm your host, Paul Alex.

I created this podcast to help you get motivated and to crush your goals.
Let's win together.

What's up, everyone?
Welcome back to the level up podcast.
I'm Paul Alex.
And today we are tackling a toxic habit that keeps small business owners entirely
trapped in the dirt, the dollar store hour. Because let's be real. If you are spending three hours
formatting your own slides, editing your own videos, or driving across town to save 50 bucks on office
supplies, you are acting like a minimum wage employee in the company you founded. Let's break down
the actual cost of your time. First, understand that saving money by doing everything yourself
is the most expensive mistake you can make. Too many transitioning founders operate from a severe
scarcity mindset. They think that because they aren't paying someone else to do a task, it's free.
That is an absolute illusion. If your time as a CEO is worth $500 an hour and you spend two hours
doing administrative data entry, you just lost $1,000 of enterprise value to save $20. Whether you
are working a 9 to 5 or launching your first startup, your calendar is your net worth. If you spend your
prime hours on low value tasks, you kill your growth. Second.
You have to ruthlessly audit every single minute of your day.
People who build massive empires do not trade their high leverage cognitive energy for operational busy work.
They buy speed.
So instead of trying to figure out how to build a website or handle bookkeeping yourself,
pay an expert to do it in an hour.
Make buying back your time your absolute highest financial priority.
Lastly, when you strictly protect your time and delegate the operational friction,
your business velocity explode.
you finally have the open bandwidth required to close massive deals, raise capital, and steer the ship.
Radical time auditing, absolute boundary setting, and supreme leverage create an untouchable CEO.
When you stop acting like an assistant, you finally start acting like an owner.
Bottom line, you cannot scale a mountain if you are carrying every single pebble in your pockets.
Value your hours, delegate the noise, and focus on the level.
the revenue because when you do, you will scale faster than ever. Thanks for tuning into the level
up podcast. I'm Paul Alex reminding you. Time is the only asset you can never print more of.
