Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to the Level Up Podcast. I'm your host, Paul Alex. I went from being a cop to an eight-figure entrepreneur that helps average people like you and me make money every single day. I created this podcast to help you get motivated and to crush your goals. Let's win together.
Starting point is 00:00:16 Remember, I have your six. Get ready to level up right now. As someone who transitioned from the grind of 80 to 100-hour work weeks, guys, in law enforcement, now I'm currently running multiple successful companies that I've lived through the very pain we're discussing today. And let me tell you, it's no joke. It's actually a pretty crucial part of my life. When you're starting now, pain comes in many forms. It could be from long hours, just like I did back in the department,
Starting point is 00:00:47 or uncertainty of when your next paycheck will come, or even the fear of failure. And trust me, I know the best of this because my mother, she was like, hey, don't leave your job to go start these companies unless you're making a million dollars a month. And I was like, that's not even reasonable, mom. Like, what person will not leave their nine to five if they're even making a hundred K a month, which at that time I was. But to her, it was all about the benefits. But here's something I learned
Starting point is 00:01:19 early on. Pain is not your enemy. It's a teacher and you need it to grow. So let's break down. Imagine you're starting your first business just like I did. You're excited, you have a great idea, and you're ready to take on the world. But then reality hits. Maybe first few pitches didn't go as planned. People are slamming the door in your face. You're cold calling. It's raining. You know, just like in the movies, you're having a bad day, right? It's happened to me. Trust me. I've even had somebody clown on me when I went to go ahead and pitch my first ATM business and they laughed at me while I was at the barbershop. And then that's essentially when pain is knocking on your door, guys. A lot of people think entrepreneurship is like social media. It's like the movies. It's going to be easy. You're going to get instant success. Within a
Starting point is 00:02:09 few weeks, you're going to be driving a Lambo. And then you're going to be talking about how it takes hard work to get there. But for most people, as soon as they get a little bit of pain, they end up going ahead and quitting. I remember when I first started my first ATM business, which was actually my first tangible business, and it was my first very simple business as a side hustle about seven years ago. The first year, I'm not going to lie, actually the first couple months was rough. I doubted myself.
Starting point is 00:02:37 I questioned my decision every day of why I started this. I was already a successful detective. But those challenges, they taught me resilience. They honed my skills in negotiation and sales. And most importantly, they taught me the value of persistence. Now, if you're listening and you're feeling that pain right now, whether you're starting with ATMs, credit card machines, you're in real estate, any other type of business,
Starting point is 00:03:03 I'm going to tell you something right now. That discomfort of starting something new, I want you to reframe that, how you see it. Don't see it as a barrier. See it as a sign that you're pushing through boundaries. It's growth. You're actually getting out of your comfort zone. And like I always say, you got to get uncomfortable to get comfortable. And being out of your comfort zone. And like I always say, you got to get uncomfortable to get comfortable. And being out of your comfort zone is exactly where growth happens. Remember, changing your mindset is key. I do public speaking all the time. I'm consistently telling my audiences, my clients, my mentees, my employees,
Starting point is 00:03:41 you have to believe you can before anybody else will. Start by embracing the pain, understanding its purpose and using it as fuel for your journey. I always say, use your pain as fuel. It'll help you. And for those who are struggling to find your footing in your business, in your success,
Starting point is 00:04:03 remember, help is always available. Seek mentors, join communities, listen to podcasts just like this one. Learn from those who's walked through this path before you and never underestimate the power of supportive network. Guys, self-education is key. And I know it sounds cliche. I was never a reader. But when I read my first book on self-help and self-educating myself key. And I know it sounds cliche. I was never a reader, but when I read my first
Starting point is 00:04:25 book on self-help and self-educating myself in business, that's when my life changed. And look, as I wrap up today's episode, I want to leave you with this thought. The price of progression might be pain, but the reward is your dreams realized, your goals achieved, and your life transformed. Keep pushing, keep learning and keep growing guys. And remember every millionaire started with a change in mindset. Until next time, keep changing your dreams. Remember, I always have your six.
