Welcome to the Level Up Podcast.
I'm your host, Paul Alex.
I went from being a cop to an eight-figure entrepreneur
that helps average people like you and me
make money every single day.
I created this podcast to help you get motivated
and to crush your goals.
Let's win together.
Remember, I have your six.
Get ready to level up right now.
It's easy to form quick opinions about people
based on limited information or first impressions.
But often these snap judgments are not just unfair, but they're also unhelpful.
They can lead to misunderstandings, conflicts, and missed opportunities.
Look, let's talk about my experience real quick in law enforcement and in business.
I learned the value of keeping an open mind and striving to understand people before forming an opinion.
As an officer, I actually had to go in neutral to every single situation.
As an entrepreneur, it's the exact same steps I took as an officer.
Always in neutral, get the information, and then make a decision based on the information you have.
Facts, not hearsay.
So first, let's discuss why we tend to make these judgments it's part of human nature to
categorize and evaluate as part of our instincts needing to understand our environment quickly
however in our modern society where interactions can be brief and superficial this tendency can
lead us to misinterpretation or dismiss others unjustly so look one effective way that i've been
able to compact this is through
empathy. Try to put yourself in the other person's shoes. Imagine their background, their challenges
they might be facing or why they might be acting a certain way. This doesn't mean excusing their
bad behavior, but it does mean trying to see beyond their initial reactions. Like I always
tell my employees, like I always tell my friends, you got to give people grace. You never know what somebody's going through in life. So communication is key, guys.
When you find yourself forming a negative opinion about someone you don't really know,
ask questions. Be a detective from a detective, right? So engage in conversation. More often than
not, you'll find that not getting to know them better will change your initial perception.
It's also crucial to check our biases. We all have them. Shaped by our background experiences, the media we consume,
being aware of your biases and actively challenging them can help you approach new people with a more
open and understanding mindset. Reflect on the times when someone might have misjudged you.
Chances are, it didn't feel great. It didn't feel great to me when other cops,
when I would be off uniform, they would think I'd be up to like no good because I got tattoos. I was
just wearing like a white tee. And at the end of the day, they prejudge me, right? But little did
they know, you know, I'm over there giving them the police jargon. They're like, oh shit, you're
a cop. Yes, sir. And they're like, oh, okay. Now perception is completely different. So at the end of the day, you always got to stay neutral,
but keep that in mind, guys. It could be a powerful motivator to treat others with fairness
and openness when you like to receive yourself. So finally, you got to embrace the diversity of
thought and experience. People from different backgrounds can offer new perspectives and ideas
that you might have never considered on your own.
By remaining open and withholding judgment, you enrich your own life and broaden your horizons.
So, while it might be easier to dislike or dismiss people we don't fully understand, take the time to get to know them.
You can lead them to be in a better place. Look, while it might be easier to dislike or dismiss people
we don't fully understand,
taking the time to get to know them
can lead to better personal relationships,
a more exclusive society,
and even new opportunities for growth and collaboration.
At the end of the day, like I always say, guys,
your network is your net worth.
If you are judging people or being
biased or you're thinking negative thoughts, you're never going to grow. And you're always
going to stay in that same environment you're currently at right now. So what you got to do,
you got to level up and you got to stay neutral. Remember, I always have your six. Make sure to
