Episode Date: September 12, 2026

A high performer can generate incredible results. But if that same person constantly disrespects the team, ignores company standards, and creates chaos behind the scenes, their numbers may be hiding a ...much larger cost.In this episode of The Level Up Podcast, Paul Alex breaks down why leaders cannot allow strong performance to become an excuse for toxic behavior and why protecting company culture sometimes requires making difficult personnel decisions. What leaders tolerate becomes part of the culture.Even when the person breaking the rules happens to be one of the company's biggest producers. In this episode, you’ll learn:• Why ignoring toxic behavior sends a message to the entire organization• How one difficult high performer can create hidden costs across the team• Why performance standards and behavioral standards must exist together• How protecting company culture can strengthen long-term performanceThe truth is simple:Talent does not give anyone permission to destroy the environment around them.Address the behavior.Set the expectation.Give people the opportunity to correct it.And if the behavior continues, protect the company. One person's numbers should never become more important than the standard everyone else is expected to follow.Your Network is your NETWORTH!Make sure to add me on all SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS:Instagram: https://jo.my/paulalex2024Facebook: https://jo.my/fbpaulalex2024YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGhDAD1JyGGzSQUPD9lc9HQLinkedIn: https://jo.my/inpaulalex2024Looking for a secondary source of income or want to become an entrepreneur? Starting point is 00:00:33 Welcome to the Level Up podcast. I'm your host, Paul Alex. I went from being a cop to an eight-figure entrepreneur that helps average people like you and me make money every single day. I created this podcast to help you get motivated and to crush your goals. Let's win together. Remember, I have your six. Get ready to level up right now.
Starting point is 00:00:55 What's up, everyone? Welcome back to the Level Up podcast. I'm Paul Alex. And today we are tackling a massive dilemma that destroys your company from the inside out. The brilliant jerk. Because let's be real. If you keep a top performing salesperson on your roster who constantly disrespects the staff, breaks the rules, and creates toxic drama, you are sacrificing your entire culture for a few extra dollars. Let's break down why you have to fire your most talented problem child. First, realize that tolerating toxicity, is a silent endorsement. Too many entrepreneurs look at the revenue a top closer brings in and decide to look the other way
Starting point is 00:01:33 when that person belittles the support team. That is a catastrophic failure of leadership. If you allow one superstar to operate outside the standard operating procedures, your other employees will instantly lose respect for you. Whether you are running a creative agency or a logistics firm, the rules have to apply to everyone equally.
Starting point is 00:01:54 If you protect the brilliant jerk, you kill the morale of the entire building. Second, you have to calculate the invisible cost of retention. People think keeping a toxic high performer is profitable, but they never calculate the cost of the three amazing quiet employees who quit because they could not stand the environment anymore. So instead of letting one ego hold your business hostage, have the hard conversation today.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Give them one chance to fix their attitude, and if they refuse, cut the cord completely. Make your core values more important than a single monthly quota. Lastly, purging toxicity creates a massive vacuum for excellence. When you finally fire the problem child, the relief in the office is instant, and your remaining team will step up to fill the revenue gap. Radical accountability, fierce protection of your culture, and a refusal to be held hostage create a legendary CEO.
Starting point is 00:02:50 When you remove the poison, the company thrives. Bottom line, you cannot build a billion dollar empire on a rotten foundation. Fire the jerk, protect the team, and uphold the standard. Because when you do, you will operate more powerfully than ever. Thanks for tuning in to the Level Up podcast. I'm Paul Alex reminding you, culture is defined by the worst behavior you are willing to tolerate. Guard the gates, lead the team, and as always, keep leveling up. Thanks for listening to Level Up Podcast.
