The Level Up Podcast w/ Paul Alex - You Don't Have to Know Everything

Episode Date: May 27, 2026

The smartest leaders are not afraid to say, “I don’t know.” In this episode of The Level Up Podcast, Paul Alex breaks down why intellectual humility is one of the most underrated traits in busi...ness. Let’s be real… If you pretend to know everything… You will eventually get exposed. A client asks a technical question. An investor challenges your numbers. A legal or tax issue comes up. And instead of being honest… You bluff. That is how trust gets destroyed. In this episode, you’ll learn: Why faking expertise damages your credibility How admitting what you do not know actually builds trust Why resourcefulness matters more than pretending to have every answer How humility opens the door to mentorship, growth, and smarter decisions The truth is simple: You do not need to be the expert in every category. You need to be honest enough to find the right expert. Saying “I don’t know” is not weakness. It is leadership. It shows that you care more about the truth than your ego. It shows that you are focused on solving the problem, not protecting your image. And it shows that you are willing to keep learning. The strongest operators stay curious. They ask better questions. They find better answers. They surround themselves with people who know what they do not. That is how you scale smarter. Drop the act. Stay humble. Find the truth. And keep leveling up. Starting point is 00:00:53 Welcome back to the Level Up podcast. I'm Paul Alex. And today we are talking about a phrase that most entrepreneurs are completely terrified to use. I do not know because let's be real. If you constantly pretend to be the smartest person in the room on every single topic, your ego is writing checks that your business cannot cash. Let's break down how intellectual humility actually accelerates your growth. First, understand that faking your expertise is a massive liability. Too many founders get asked a highly technical question by a client or an investor and they try to bluff their way through the answer. It is a terrible
Starting point is 00:01:29 strategy. If the market catches you in a lie or a half-truth, you lose all credibility instantly. Whether you are dealing with complex legal contracts or new marketing software, admitting your blind spots builds massive trust. If you fake it, you kill the relationship. Second, saying you do not know is just the first half of the sentence. People do not respect ignorance, but they deeply respect resourcefulness. So instead of making up an answer, tell them you do not have the exact data right now, but you will find the absolute best expert to get it for them. Make your ability to source the truth your actual superpower. Lastly, dropping the act opens the door for elite mentorship.
Starting point is 00:02:13 When you finally admit that you need help scaling your operations or managing your taxes, the right people can actually step in to assist you. Radical honesty, deep curiosity, and a willingness to be a student create a legendary leader. When you admit what you do not know, you learn faster than everyone else. Bottom line, you do not have to be a walking encyclopedia to run a massive company. Drop the ego, ask the hard questions, and find the right answers. Because when you do, you will scale smarter than ever. Thanks for tuning into the Level Up podcast.
Starting point is 00:02:46 I'm Paul Alex reminding you, true intelligence is knowing exactly what you need to learn. Stay humble, stay resourceful, and as always, keep leveling up.
