Hello, lovely people and welcome to the bonus edition of The Life of Briney.
Today, Genevieve Turley is rooting through her handbag and bringing out the three essential things that help her to glow and live her best life.
I get asked all the time, if you could only have one makeup product, what would it be?
And I would say, go for something that you can make a lip or a cheek.
I love a concealer and I love a mascara and I love all of those things.
but for a very quick, two seconds and quite a good impact, that's a good one to have.
My chat with Genevieve coming up right after this.
We've got a very special episode of The Life of You this week because Genevieve Turley is here
and she is a make-up artist extraordinaire.
Just makes you feel brilliant about yourself.
She enhances your beauty.
She shows you what's already there and will make you feel fantastic.
And she is going to rummage in her handbag, and she's going to give us the three things that are essential to her glowing complexion and beauty.
Well, I haven't got a huge amount of skincare in here, but you know it's good when I bring it to London with me.
Really? Why?
Well, because top-ups. Well, actually, you know, I have got... I'm going to do one makeup, one hair and one skin.
Okay, Brill. Perfect.
So, first one.
Cool girl, Sam, Hair by Sam McKnight, texturizing spray.
I text you about this.
Because I did.
And you were like, la, la, la, la.
La la.
I don't understand what texturizing spray is.
It'll be your best.
I know I'm shit with hair.
I am really bad with hair.
Okay.
But texturizing spray is made.
You kind of, it will.
How do I do?
You're just like, sort of my hair.
A hairstylist tells me to group my hair like that and then you sort of, and it helps it stay there,
but you can sort of move it and jush it. So like how are your hairs now? You sort of do that and it helps
give it a bit of something. Okay. I'm not selling it. I'm sorry Sam McKnight. I'm not a hairstiles.
But all I know is I've got this kind of product. Texturizing spray. This and dry shampoo.
Yeah. Well, obviously, that's, that's an obvious one. You don't need to tell the listeners of life
of briny about dry.
shampoo. Like I obviously know there's like shampoo and conditioner, but all the other
gubbins around it. I'm like, what am I doing? Yeah. And I get sent, you know, one of the
very lovely things about my job is that I get sent quite a lot of beauty things. And when it
comes to hair stuff, I get sent like hair mask, scalp exfoliants. And I'm thinking, never,
never am I. So I never open it and I send it to charity raffles. Because I just think, I'm never going to
do that. You know, I'm like you. Shampoo and a bit of texturiser spray. Right, the other one,
this is face now. Okay, we've moved on. So number two. Number two, this is Yepida.
It's called the mist have and it's a facial mist with hyaluronic acid lavender. So what this does
is you spray it. So it makes my skin refreshed. Yeah. So it doesn't feel dry anymore. But when
you're wearing makeup, it sort of, you know, when your makeup starts to sit a bit,
if it sits in your fine lines
or it just starts to dry a little bit
go on, give yourself this.
Close your eyes.
What do you do?
Close your eyes.
God, are we that?
Is that where we're out?
I have to actually tell you to close your eyes before.
Step by step.
I just don't think I'm, I don't.
Does that feel nice?
It feels nice, but I just don't think
I'm sophisticated enough for a face mist.
You are.
Keep that in your, something like that in your car.
I don't have a car.
I don't drive.
Oh.
I mean, I do have a car, but I don't drive.
So my husband would be like, what the fuck is this?
Get it out of my car.
Okay, so what's number three?
Well, this is hard because now we're on makeup.
Yeah.
I can see you've got a triny bag there.
I have got a triny bag here.
But I'm going to talk about this one.
No, that's not the one, this one.
Because I get asked all the time, if you could only have one makeup product, what would it be?
And I would say go for some, for me personally,
something that you can make a lip or a cheek.
Right.
A multitasker.
A multitasking product.
So this is by Buoy.
Do you know Celeste Barber?
I do.
She is like you very funny.
She's brilliant.
I got to meet her last year.
Did you?
Yeah.
And we did some makeup fun together, which was,
she's a good crack.
But this is her makeup brands called Bowie.
And this is shade red wine.
I mean, there's loads of products like this on the market.
Trinie has got loads of products.
but you put it on your lips and you put it on your cheeks and you're good to go.
So, you know, a really good one for the handbag, you know,
if you're about to go into a meeting or about to do the school run,
it just, for a lot of us, just a bit of colour just makes a big difference, you know.
So I love a concealer and I love a mascara and I love all of those things,
but for a very quick, two seconds and quite a good impact, that's a good one to have.
Okay, so like a lip and cheek.
Yeah.
A lip and cheek colour thing.
A quick lip and cheek.
Yeah.
A lip.
And Trinny, not that we are sponsored by Trinney,
but we would be very happy to be sponsored by Trinney.
And what I love about Trini as well,
she is her whole brand is for women sort of our age.
Yeah.
How old are you, Genevieve?
I'm 39.
I mean, I'm a bit older than you.
I group all women in the same.
Anything past 35.
I'm like, we're all sort of the same.
Our age, yeah.
Our age.
I just group it together.
I have this friend.
And I do think of myself as, I'm like, you know, women are age.
And she always looks at me like, hmm, you're like 10 years older than me before.
And I was like, and?
It means nothing.
Age is but a number.
Exactly.
I'm forever 28 in my head.
I'm just so glad I'm not forever 28.
I'm glad I never want to go back to 20s.
But in my head, I am 28.
And when I have had brides who are actually 28 and I'm going, oh, remember when this was a thing.
looking at me going,
I don't remember that.
And I'm thinking, oh, shit.
Yeah, you're all a lot younger than me.
But my husband's eight years older than me.
And sometimes he'll be like, oh, remember this cartoon?
And I'm like, no, because I was two.
He's more my age.
Yeah.
Okay.
So Genevieve, I'm going to be obsessive about you now.
You are, so a military nurse, turned makeup artist,
turned internet star, turned now.
you're actually going to be doing like a comedy stage show called Laughter Limes.
Yes. 10th of May, less square theatre.
I know this is quite exciting.
Did you ever imagine when you spoke about in the main episode
about the kind of like just a slog when you had a one and a two-year-old and you were covered in psoriasis?
And you were like, what am I doing?
Such a lovely time.
Did you ever imagine that you'd end up basically be doing, like becoming a performer?
this would be your world.
I wouldn't have said at that point that was my goal.
When I talked about goals earlier, that wasn't necessarily the goal at that point.
But as things have progressed, that has become the goal.
The stage is where I belong.
Yeah, I mean, I'm not shy.
Let's put it that way.
So being on stage doesn't fill me with...
Oh, it's a wonderful feeling, isn't it?
Yeah, I like stage.
And I feel as though it's really nice as well to get to...
sort of be amongst a great audience of similar mindset and it will be really good.
Women of a similar age.
Similar age.
We're all the same age in here today.
Anywhere between 35 and 75.
The show is all about simple makeup tips and tricks.
So everyone to leave going, I could totally do that, you know.
And laughing about all the things that have been thrust upon us, you know, from a young age,
the beauty standard, what's been rammed down our throat,
how we've been criticised and pulled apart,
and just sort of making fun of that,
because it has been damaging to a lot of us.
And we wear the scars of it all the time.
But I think that we now need to just laugh it off
and just be like, how ridiculous that we've been made to feel like this as women.
You know, it's awful.
So I want to laugh at all those things,
because if we don't laugh, we cry.
So let's laugh about it all and just be like, enough.
you know. And then I've got special guests coming on. I've got Louise Boyce. Mama's still got it.
All right. Cool. So obviously she was a model and she was treated terribly, you know, the modelling
industry. So we're going to talk about all of that sort of beauty standard from her point of view,
but also have a laugh about motherhood and how we change and how manipause and things changes us.
I've also got Dr. Sam coming on, who's this amazing dermatologist, who's got the Dr. Sam's
skincare brand, who's such an incredible woman.
So she can answer everyone's questions about what to do.
You know, my skins, like you said, become really hormonal since I've, you know,
gone through menopause.
I don't know what to do.
So she's going to go through asking all those questions.
And then we've got Michael Douglas.
What?
No, not that.
Michael Douglas.
Even better.
Defeanor's husband.
New hubby.
Yes.
Michael's going to talk us through exactly, you know, us messing around with
texturizing.
What the fuck to do with?
Exactly.
Yes.
Quick tips on how to do effortless styling and how to just do little bits to make us feel a bit better.
So I feel as though we've got all things covered then.
We've got skin, hair, makeup and just general feel-good vibes.
Vibes.
Vives.
All about the vibes, babes.
All about the vibes.
You have bought the vibes today.
Thanks.
Thank you, Genevieve Turley.
You're so welcome.
Thanks for having me.
And there you have it.
The contents of Genevieve Turley's hand.
bag. You can thank me later. Please, can you go and leave us a review and give us a follow? It really
does make a difference. But most importantly, look after yourself and remember, you are beautiful
